These boys, this team, this sport all have a special place in my heart. I am sad that I won’t get to see this particular team play live as two of them retired from the national team but regardless of that I will continue to support all of them no matter what. Tokyo Olympics is when I heard of them, only learnt three of the members then and it was the three I saw everywhere. Yuyuran aka Yuki Ishikawa, Yuji Nishida and Ran Takahashi.
Finally learnt the rest of the team this year and supported them through the Paris Olympics but was really sad with the end results. I know they played their best in that last match and I was still so so proud of them from putting up the fight they did against Italy.
I hope that one day I will get to see them play volleyball live and not just on a screen, if not all of them then some of them 🫶🏽

The Haunted Ryujin Nippon Dorm
It was a quiet evening at the Ryujin Nippon dorm. After a long day of practice, the boys were ready to rest. Yuki Ishikawa, as always, was in his room, focused on his schedule for the next day, while Yuji Nishida and Ran Takahashi were playing video games in the common area. Akihiro Yamauchi and Taishi Onodera were discussing their blocking techniques, and Masahiro Sekita was chatting with Tatsunori Otsuka and Kentaro Takahashi about the latest volleyball match.
The peaceful evening, however, was about to take a turn.
Suddenly, the lights flickered. The air felt colder. Yuki furrowed his brows. "Did we forget to pay the electric bill?"
Before anyone could answer, they heard the eerie creaking of a door. It came from the hallway, and the sound echoed throughout the dorm. The guys exchanged confused glances. Yuji, the most fearless of them all, chuckled. "Who's trying to scare us? Come on, show yourself!"
No one responded.
Then, out of nowhere, a loud thud came from the bathroom. Ran, who had been bravely trash-talking Yuji during their game, jumped up, clutching the controller. "Wh-what was that?!"
"Don't tell me… this dorm is haunted?" Taishi whispered, eyes wide.
Yuki stood up, trying to maintain his composure. "Relax. There’s probably a logical explanation for this."
But things only got worse. As they all gathered in the common area, the TV turned on by itself, showing nothing but static. A chill ran down everyone's spine as they saw a shadowy figure walk past the hallway in the reflection of the TV screen.
"Okay, nope! I'm out!" Tatsu shouted, standing up, his face pale as he grabbed Kentaro by the arm.
Sekita, usually calm and collected, looked uneasy. "Maybe we should... check it out?"
"Are you crazy?!" Yuji said, shaking his head vigorously. "I’m not walking towards that thing! That’s like the number one rule of horror movies—don’t go towards the creepy noise!"
Just then, they heard the sound of a girl laughing. It was faint, but it was there. "Did you guys hear that?!" Akihiro asked, stepping back. "That was definitely a girl."
"Wait a second..." Yuki narrowed his eyes, trying to connect the dots. "No one else is supposed to be here, right?"
Ran nodded nervously. "Unless it’s a ghost."
The tension built up as everyone started to imagine the worst. Every little creak, every gust of wind, every flicker of the lights seemed to fuel their growing paranoia. Yuji, despite being one of the boldest players on the court, now stood behind Akihiro, using his height as a shield.
Suddenly, the kitchen lights turned on, and there, sitting at the counter with a cup of tea, was none other than… Mayu Ishikawa, casually sipping and scrolling through her phone.
The entire group froze.
"Mayu?! What are you doing here?!" Yuki exclaimed, his voice mixed with confusion and relief.
Mayu looked up, completely nonchalant. "Oh hey, guys. What’s up?"
"What’s up?!" Tatsu yelled, his heart still racing. "We thought this place was haunted! We heard noises, saw shadows, and there was this creepy laughter!"
Mayu’s lips curled into a mischievous grin. "Ohhh… that? Yeah, that was me."
The dorm went silent.
"What?" Sekita repeated, blinking. "You… what?"
Mayu burst into laughter. "I’ve been here for the past two days. I thought I’d have some fun while Yuki and I were both in town. So, I decided to prank you guys! The creaking door? That was me. The shadow? Also me. And the creepy laughing? Totally me. You should’ve seen your faces!"
Ran gaped at her. "Are you serious?! I thought I was about to die!"
Akihiro just stared in disbelief. "Wait, how did you even make the TV do that static thing?"
"Oh, that?" Mayu waved her hand dismissively. "I just unplugged it and plugged it back in at the right moment. Easy stuff."
Yuji, who had been hiding behind Akihiro for the better part of the night, now stepped forward, shaking his head. "You’re evil. Pure evil."
Yuki, still in shock, rubbed his temples. "I should’ve known. The one person in this world who could pull this off is you."
Mayu winked. "What can I say? Gotta keep you boys on your toes."
Tatsu sighed, collapsing onto the couch. "I can’t believe we fell for it."
"Seriously," Kentaro added, sitting next to him. "I was ready to call my mom and say goodbye!"
Taishi shook his head, trying to hold back laughter. "This is why we never let Mayu into the dorm unsupervised."
Mayu stood up, dramatically flipping her hair. "Well, now you know. But hey, you’ve all got to admit, I got you good."
The boys all exchanged looks and finally broke into laughter, the fear fading as they realized they had been played by the master prankster herself.
"Yeah, yeah, you got us," Yuji admitted, patting her on the back. "But next time, don’t expect us to go easy on you."
Mayu smirked. "Oh, I’m counting on it."
And from that day forward, the Ryujin Nippon dorm was never quite the same. Not because it was haunted, but because they never knew when Mayu Ishikawa would strike again.

Since our country doesn’t have any contingents for Volleyball so, naturally as someone who really loves and respect Japan and their people - and an anime enthusiast at that - I naturally started to support Japanese Volleyball Team in the Olympics.
As a volleyball enthusiast myself, I can say that they were really good and had plenty of techniques in their sleeves. But seeing the game today, I couldn’t say anything but praises to Team Japan. They’re young yet they were able to stand their ground against the powerhouse team of Brazil.
A lot happened. There were a lot of attacks, amazing blocks, death defying receives and effective faints. Just like their other games which had amazing outcomes as well. However, they fell unfortunately short. Brazil is a powerhouse team and it’s already amazing that they were able to stand their ground.
Brazil won an echoing win of 3-0, but man did Japan made it hard.
Japan were also able to close the gap in between sets and they were also able to answer Brazil’s attacks with equal passion and strength. Just goes to show that no matter what, there’s always a room for improvement for the players.
And and and hats and hands down for Brazil as well. Even if they’re already good at the sport - with experienced and dedicated players known in the whole world - they rallied and treated their opponents as equals. They recognized Japan players’ skills and even adapted to their attacking patterns - which is, in a way amazing.
Bottomline, a lot of competitiveness, teamwork and sportsmanship happened today in court.
But the highlight is that Japan is now recognized in the whole world as a team to be reckoned with. They might have misses in their defense in this game but we, sports enthusiast, believes that they’ll continue to grow individually and as a team to have their way for the next Olympics!
Also, props to their team captain! Ishikawa did really well in the game. It’s just as Haikyuu taught me, ‘a team with a good captain will always be a good team’
That guy cried after the game, but deep in our hearts, we knew that he was the best!

Sekaiichi Hatsukoi Live Action: A Concept — The Nostalgia Pairing
(Notice: this is a fancasting)
Soooo I got a little bored and was wondering what the sih characters would look like irl — so I went ahead and tried my hand at fancasting a Sekaiichi Hatsukoi live action. I was jokingly taking it serious and pretending to be a casting agent. So I scoured the internet looking for Japanese actors that actually resemble the characters — ya know, cos I just wanna see what the characters would look like irl.
Now, I wasn't actually expecting to be successful in my internet ventures, but I actually was AND now I'm obsessed 😭 so I wanna share my findings with you guys~
(Also a bit of a side note, I only got through the nostalgia pairing cos’ I was a little tired and too busy fangirling 😆 The only other character I did was Kisa, but I forgot who I casted lol)
Here are my findings:
Onodera Ritsu - Yudai Chiba
This is the one I can't get over. Just look at them, their hair even swoops in the same direction! Also not to mention, that this guy has already been in a Japanese BL Drama (Ossan’s Love: In the Sky)!
So If there ever is a sih live action I, 100% want Yudai Chiba to portray Ritsu AND this is why –
He's just so Onodera-like! So much so that I couldn't just include a few photos, I had to make, not one, but two collages. Like it's unbelievable. Also, not to mention this —
This gif is what ultimately sold me. Like, get me in contact with his agent, he's hired! 😆
Takano Masamune - Kentaro Sakaguchi
Now, ngl I'm not as passionate about Takano 😅, but I can say this — if Takano was a real person he'd look like this:
Like 100% to a tee!
Man I feel like I didn’t really express how perfect these two guys are, but this post is getting way too long, so this is it for now. I’m gonna go back to fangirling now~ 😆
I hope you guys enjoy these findings as much as I did :) srry if this post was too long. Plz check these guys out and feel free to tell me what you guys think!~
Finally to conclude this post, here’s one last picture of Yudai Chiba with Taishi Nakagawa.

We Never Learn, Vol. 1
By Taishi Tsutsui. Released in Japan as “Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai” by Shueisha, serialization ongoing in the magazine Weekly Shonen Jump. Released in North America by Viz Media. Translated by Camellia Nieh.
It always feels reassuring to have a romantic comedy coming out in Shonen Jump in amongst all the friendship, training and victory. Especially coming out in North America, where Jump romantic comedies have not always had the best track record. Nisekoi was a recent hit, but it’s an outlier – To-Love-Ru and its sequel were farmed out to a different company, and does anyone remember Strawberry 100%? That said, like Nisekoi, We Never Learn seems to be falling more on the side of “romantic comedy with strong character development” rather than “romantic comedy with lots of panty shots and sexual suggestiveness”. Like, well, those other two series. As a result, it’s far more my type of series. The main characters are all types, but they’re enjoyably written and aren’t aggravating. Nisekoi fans may find Fumino a bit familiar to Onodera, but that’s no surprise, given the author wrote Nisekoi’s magical girl spinoff.
Nariyuki is a serious young man from a poor family who needs a recommendation to get into a good school. He’s an excellent student, not through innate ability but hard study. He is, sadly, not the best in his class in science and literature, thanks to two geniuses who effortlessly get the best grades. Now he is being told to tutor these two, as they each have goals that clash with their specialty – literature genius Fumino wants to study astronomy but is wretched at science, and Rizu wants to go into the arts despite being seemingly awful at understanding feelings and emotions. Things get off to a rocky start, but Nariyuki is not one to give up easily, To make matters more chaotic, Naruyuki’s friend Uruka needs to study in order to stay on the swimming team, but she’s bad at EVERYTHING. Can he get these girls to bone up on the right things and achieve their dreams? And, more importantly, fall in love with one of them?
Well, I say that, but at this point in the series love is not all that high on the agenda, which is content to introduce the main cast and have them bond as friends. The plot is very sedate with few surprises – the girls meet Naruyuki’s family, the girls each reveals secret asides to themselves, etc. One of the interesting things about the title I noticed is that there’s no “first girl” here – both main female protagonists are introduced at once, so you don’t get a sense of who the author favors. (Sorry, Uruka, you arrive three chapters late.) I suspect that Western readers will gravitate to Rizu – let’s face it, Fumino is the classic “nice girl who always comes in second” sort (see also Nisekoi) – but it’s going to be more of a surprise than these titles usually pull off. The author also has a good flair for art and facial expressions – there’s just a lot of amusing faces here, and I found myself laughing at them as much as the characters and situation.
So overall a pretty strong debut, and I can see why it was licensed. I look forward to seeing these girls make painfully slow progress in their efforts to learn outside their specialties.
