A/N - I can't believe this threadfic has its own behind-the-scenes backstory, but the first 25 tweets of how this threadfic initially started had been very different from what you see in this version. It was full of poignant lore and future S4 speculation, a dive into HL's psyche regarding his traumatic upbringing, and commentary about Compound V causing madness and tragedy to tie into what'll happen to Hugh Sr, ect.… It’d been saved in my Drafts; I’d been ready to click “Post All” after I found the perfect GIFs for the starter tweet. But then I'd accidentally pressed "DELETE" instead of "Save”—and all that work, vanished. Banished to the ether. RIP to what could've been. 🥲 I wasn't about to retype all that in my second attempt so I ended up simplifying it. And that's how we arrived here. :) Hope y'all enjoyed regardless! <3

How did you come up with your "white people just stop" tag, if I can ask? It seems like there's a decent number of posts where you tag with that and then immediately say that there are no white people involved in the situation described and it's your general racism tag.

I've kind of forgotten at this point, but when I was in my "making up perma-tags" era there must have been a lot of white people being racist in the news!

it's hard to pin down, because once i had a tag system i would occasionally "back-tag" posts from prior to the system, so there's no way to definitively tell the first usage. however, i believe it was somewhere around late fall/early winter of 2013. i only really started tagging things semi-regularly around august or september 2013; it had been incredibly unpredictable before that. around this time i started occasionally using the tag #white people for when white people were acting especially white—there's some backtagging with this tag as well but my guess is that it started with this post. (the use of a black actor in my chosen gif is a little cringe there because, as i sometimes note with my #i am a white people tag, i am, in fact, a white people. but i digress.)

and then not too long after that, i must've been so exasperated at some white shenanigans that i added "white people just stop" after i had already tagged the post "white people," like in this post and this post that happened in early November one day apart. i think i originally assumed it would serve as an intensifier, but almost immediately collapsed the two tags into the stronger tag. and then that summer (2014) all those riots broke out in Ferguson after Michael Brown was shot with his hands up and after a year of that I had used the #white people just stop tag so much that when I finally tried to officially codify my tagging system, it was going to be the least effort to keep that one as opposed to inventing something more general.

i should probably just make a different tag to use when the racism isn't coming from white people, at least as a subtag if I'm keeping the old one as an overtag. right now I'm using "lateral violence" almost exclusively for queer infighting but i assume that might also work for situations where someone who suffers under white supremacy turns around and enacts racial discrimination on another sufferer. probably less useful for international shit though. I'm open to suggestions until i think of something myself!

no worries! it's not something that i would expect ppl outside of the us (or canada, we have cowboys too) to know much about, or even ppl who don't live in the midwest or the prairies. a lot of the white population of those areas is christian (usually protestant/evangelical) so there's a lot of christianity tied into 'cowboy culture'. there's christianity tied into like, everything to do with america, but it can be more prominent in country, in the music especially. it's a pretty close visual leap imo.
