The hidden benefit of video games: strengthening community through online gaming
What words do you usually think of when you hear the word ‘gamers’?
Stereotypically, I’d assume you’d think of something like nerds, geeks, losers, dorks. But many of us know, gaming culture is so much more than that.
Tumblr media
JP Gee referenced in Lucinda Saldanha et al states that ‘more and more people are coming together around the shared interest of games’ resulting in emerging ‘communities with specific characteristics and dynamics’ (2023).
The groups themselves are incredibly diverse and varied in size, purposes and interests. This week’s core reading states that ‘the cultural, economic, and political values of the videogame field are neither homogeneous nor universal, but instead represent a vast range of practices, communities, aesthetics and intentions (Keogh, 2021).
So let’s explore some of these! We will focus on three specific ways communities are formed through gaming:
Tumblr media
1.     Gaming with friends and making friends through games
The lecture states gaming communities are also social communities. Many individuals will play games with their friends who they know in real life, whilst also being introduced to their friends online. This results to larger circles of friendships and new people regularly meeting each other on digital platforms.
You don’t have to have a mutual friend to meet new people though. Some gamers will meet players from the other edge of the globe as they play the same game, meaning their circles can be worldwide!
Tumblr media
2.     Competitive gaming
There is also competitive gaming, also known as eSports, which is when groups of people gather to play games against each other, usually in tournament style competitions. This week’s lecture explains this is ‘enormous and lucrative industry’. Statista supports this claim, estimating of the value of the global eSports market to be over 1.38 billion US dollars!
3.     Streaming communities
Streaming is also a valued part of gaming culture, where gamers will stream their games (usually live) to chat, interact and connect with each other. By creating their own entertainment, communities are formed through shared love of games and viewers relating to the experience of streamers and fellow viewers.
This is a video which challenges gamer stereotypes and celebrates the positives of social gaming.
youtube
Gaming communities should be celebrated as place for connection and enjoyment - let’s get rid of the stigma!

Looking To Buy Best SARMs Online: Here’s A Quick Guide
Tumblr media
Do you intend to buy SARMs online? Today, we will guide you in identifying the best sarms suppliers on the internet. A good supplier should be sourcing sarms of the highest quality, purity, and grade. Because of their reputation in enhancing the performance of bodybuilders, sarms have become the most preferred supplement.
SARM is an acronym for the Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator. It's worth mentioning here that the Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator works selectively on your body. Therefore, sarms differ from anabolic steroids because they only target the androgen receptors attached to your muscles and fats.
If you want it to work correctly, you need to purchase the best quality sarms. And the only such place to get from is the best available supplier in the market. Now, how do you tell that the supplier can deliver the best quality sarms online? The following points will guide you to make the right choice when choosing a sarms supplier.
Search Online
First thing first, you need to start with an online search. And the reason your search should start with the internet is that it is the most preferred mode of advertising. Besides, with the advent of the internet, businesses that couldn't advertise the conventional ways are using it to market their products and services. But you need to know that even those suppliers with substandard products can also use the internet for advertising. And this takes us to the next point.
Location
To Buy sarms online, ensure the supplier is based in your locality. For instance, if you reside in the US, you should outsource from a US-based supplier. That is because a locally based supplier will deliver the best sarms in time. Online suppliers like sarmsamerica can be the best choice if you are an American citizen.
Customer Service
Another vital thing to consider when choosing a SARMs supplier is customer service. A promising sarms for sale supplier should have a reliable customer service plan for its customers. Online purchases are usually hectic and unreliable sometimes. Therefore, you must order your sarms from a supplier who is always ready to answer your queries about the products, and its delivery protocol is the best. Ensure you call or email them to gauge their customer service plan.
Deliveries
A great supplier must have a reliable chain of supply. Ensure that they provide a clear direction on how you will receive your sarms products. Also, make sure that you check whether or not other previous clients have been served accordingly in the past. A great sarms supplier must be able to ship the products within a short period. Also, ensure that you have the order receipt for a follow-up in case there is a delay with the shipping.
Legitimacy
Lastly, look at the supplier’s legitimacy before placing an order. Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs) are not easily found. In some states, it is illegal to be seen with them. Therefore, you must ensure that your supplier is trustworthy. The only sure way to ascertain this is through customer reviews. Make sure you go through the previous customer reviews to see if their orders were promptly shipped as agreed.
Read Reviews
To ensure you get the right SARM supplier online, you must take your search further and read reviews to buy sarms. Remember, other users have already used and compared products from different suppliers. When reading reviews, you should never ignore negative reviews because they can help you avoid costly mistakes.

(Anti-) Social Media
Tumblr media
Development of Homophily
Many factors can contribute to the feeling of connectedness and development of homophily through the use of social media. This can be by creating a feeling of emotional safety, a sense of belonging, or even just increasing the sense of closeness with existing or new friends (just to name a few). Homophily itself is the drive that motivates us all to seek out or be attracted to others with similar interests, hobbies, political views, life goals ect. Social media users tend to feel closer to other users over time due to the behavioral similarities they experience through their interactions (Figeac& Favre, 2021).
When it comes to our emotions the ability properly express them is important. Creating a community of individuals that can identify with one another with out risk of rejection or disapproval facilitates this by establishing a safe place (Waterloo, Baumgartner, Peter, & Valkenburg, 2018;2017;).
Algorithms and Cognitive Biases
Algorithms are programs/processes that are used to deliver personalized content to users on social media by collecting data about the users likes, dislikes, patterns of behavior and more. This data is then used to bring together and encourage interactive content that is personalized to each user (Vincent, 2019).  The more interaction with particular types of things the more the algorithm will promote it and facilitate interactions with it as well as others who have an affinity for same.  Thus, strengthening the connection between the user, the object and the other likeminded people in the same virtual community.  Unfortunately, this can also satisfy one’s cognitive biases. Cognitive bias is a systematic rationalization or inclination that persists despite logic.  Continuous interaction with others who share your same views, beliefs, like and dislikes limits the interaction among others with opposing thoughts/feelings or beliefs and can feed this inappropriate tendency. This can promote the user to isolate from other with opposing views.
Preventative Steps
So how can we prevent these risks? First take into account some of the features of social media such as privacy settings. This can be used to limit the some of the amount or type of information shared that can effect the algorithm. Next, consider your own personal choices. Make a conscious effort to consider and engage in networking/interacting with others whose view may not fall exactly in line with those of your own.  Be open minded and reflect on opposing views. Additionally, stay connected with others outside of social media by doing things with others in person!

Where you can find Missord Sequin Prom Dresses
‍The night is finally here and you’re finally getting ready to go out with friends or family. While you’re excited about the night ahead, you’re also dreading it at the same time. It’s going to be so awkward either way and you don’t know what to wear. Unless you know about Missord Sequin Prom Dresses. They’re going to make you look and feel like a princess. Literally and figuratively speaking. Where to Find Prom Dresses? After hours of searching online and in stores, you still don’t know where to find prom dresses. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered. Check out these places where you’ll find a prom dress in no time.
Online
First of all, it’s important to remember that you’ll find the best deals online. It’s super easy to compare prices across different websites and shops. Tons of prom dress reviews will be able to help you decide which one is the right prom dress for you.
Specialty Stores
It’s not always easy to find a prom dress, but these specialty stores can help. These stores sell prom dresses that are made for different purposes, such as prom or homecoming. Plus, they may have customer reviews so you know what you’ll get if you go in. Some of these stores may even be able to accommodate special requests like custom sizes or colors! Cheap Prom Dresses: Prom is expensive and nobody wants to break the bank on that night. Luckily, some of these online retailers will give you plenty of options for finding a cheap dress. You just need to be careful about the material because sometimes cheaper materials don’t hold up as well as more expensive ones do. Shopping Online: Sometimes it can be difficult to find something in person and it’s much easier to shop online. If you know what type of style you want and the size, then shopping online is the way to go. Though always make sure your measurements match what they say they do so there aren’t any surprises at the end of the night.
Department Stores
Department stores, like Macy’s or Nordstrom, are a great place to find a prom dress. They have tons of options and they offer a variety of sizes. Plus, if you don’t find something that you like in one store, you can go to another and see what they have to offer. You’ll never run out of options!
Conclusion
It's not difficult to find a sequin prom dress if you know where to look. You can find sequin prom dresses at department stores, specialty stores, and online.

Gagliano is also the one who led the experiment that showed that corn plants "talk" to each other by emitting sounds at specific frequencies, influencing each other's growth

(NOTE: the above book is available for purchase, but is priced at the crazy ass textbook price we all know and love. it’s here on amazon if you want to shop around tho)
PLANT COMMUNICATION (including behaviour, acoustic signalling, language & meaning, and more)
ok guys this is what she says about this research on her page, which is what @verdanturf is referring to here: Plant bioacoustics is a newly-emerged field of plant communication. Plants produce sound waves in the lower end of the audio range as well as an overabundance of ultrasonic sounds. By capturing the signals emitted by plants under different environmental conditions, I am exploring the ecological significance of these sounds to communication among plants and between plants and other organisms.
*heavy breathing*
anyway, so the papers she’s written in this research:

U of MN Press (June) 2017: This book commences a dialogue between philosophy, science, literature and cinema dealing with plants. The aim of the edited collection is to develop a better understanding of plant life through critical awareness, conceptual rigor, and interdisciplinary thinking. Envisioned as a ground-breaking work that will bridge a number of fields, The Language of Plants will (1) allot to literature, cinema and the arts a special role in the integration of the scientific and philosophical research on plants at the experiential level, (2) promote the freedom of imagination necessary for the rethinking of vegetal life and, thereby, (3) inspire further philosophical and scientific investigations. The book will not only seek to consolidate the nascent paradigm shift in the human conceptualisation of vegetation, but it will also join ongoing discussions of plant ethics.
(she neglected to update this; the above book on plant language and is now out and available for purchase by the public!!! here’s the barnes and noble link, I’m sure you can find it for cheaper somewhere else tho. it has 281 reviews and 4.5 out of 5 stars, and came out in June of this year.)
