Happy New Year's!
Happy New Years folks!
2024 was.. certainly a year for me. I grew my platform, met so many wonderful people, did a ding dong ditch on death's doorstep (Dw I'm fine now🧍♂️) and many other things. Would I say it was a bad year? Ignoring the near death experience of pneumonia, no it was actually an eye opener of a year for me
Not only have I emassed a following that lil me would have a heart attack seeing now as I've always wanted this, but I also finished school! I graduated properly in November and am quite satisfied with my HSC results, even being eligible for an ATAR (which isn't overly important here, just gives you access to more stuff through uni at a younger age but still becomes available when you're past 20, other Aussies would understand)
What's the plan going into 2025?
Well. A few things actually.
For starters, I'm gonna be taking a gap year. Which if you don't know is basically a year were you spend time working on personal projects and earning money until you figure out what schooling path you want to take, if any at all. My plans don't consist of me going to uni, what I want to study will have me drive hours away from my home and parents that I'm just not emotionally and mentally prepared for. So I'll look into online Tafe courses.
Next I want to start the process of making a full FNAF cosplay costume. I have my ideas sketched out on what I've got planned. I'll give updates when it arises.
And finally. I'm planning to start work on a Object Show with some amazing friends! Which, if you don't know, is this thing I've been posting about occasionally called Showtime Showdown (with characters featured from it in this art) these past few months. If you could show support to me and my co-owners @tophatwearingidiot and @blu193 regarding this endeavour, I'll be so fucking thankful. It is a dream of mine, a passion project, ever since I was young to make an animated show loved by people. Making all these ideas and designs, never sure which one to go with or how I'm even going to start.
The rise of Indie animation has given me the courage to start persuing it and using YouTube as my outsource. Not only that, but discovering and getting into the Object Show Community, thanks to the aforementioned Tophat, has made me realise the easiest way to do that is through an object show, so that's what I'm gonna do.
Here's to a happy and safe 2025!

Actually started learning Japanese again. Found a local tutor who I’m starting to do one hour a week with. And my NDIS funding supports someone driving me there and back so I don’t have to worry about it.
Hopefully it’ll help me feel more stimulated and get back into the rhythm of things.
I’ve forgotten so much. In high school I was at the point where I was writing letters (Albeit basic ones ) to Japanese exchange students. I probably remember like 1/5 if it all. Hoping it’ll all come back. And be less stressful then last year when I had to travel over an hour to the city for a group class that I just shut down in
I would love to get to the point where I could read manga on my own. I know it’s probably a pipe dream though at this point with how bleh I am At everything
It’s the one thing I feel most sad over my mental health robbing of me. I was genuinely so good at Japanese in high school and I had dreams of going on to do it at university so I could one day get into translation and do a university exchange program in Japan.
Then my health and will to live took a nose dive and I dropped out of Japanese at the end of year ten and flunked high school.
Didn’t get high enough grades for any university course. So I did tafe and then dropped out of that for mental health problems. Took a bridging course to do uni online and then once I completed that dropped out again from mental health problems. Tried tafe again and then had to drop out after a suicide attempt
I want to learn and work and engage with the world and I’m hoping one day I can but it’s so demotivating looking at how much I’ve failed
I know my Japanese will never be as good as it could have been had I not been so ill in high school but I’m hoping it can get to a point I’m proud of

hello i am learning auslan !! also have speaking / language differences . wanted to ask , how learning ? took a course at school but forgot stuff due to memory issues :( trying to find new resources !
— 🤎
hello! Self learn part from old work (work Deaf school), did formal classes organisation ‘Deaf Connect’. Self did in person and much liked, but also offer online. Self did Auslan 1 and Auslan 2 short 8 week courses, hopefully can start Certificate 2 Auslan next year same organisation. (Also offered free short course with TAFE but very selective in my area and self not do formal higher education well.)
For memory recommend see if city/town has Auslan learners’ social groups. Some place have meet ups every month maybe to sit and chat in Auslan. Also same for Deaf led organisations + events but be aware some for Deaf + Hard of Hearing folk only.
Hope helpful answers! Have nice day :) (smiley face).

ugh just remembered when I was in that useless fucking social services job hunting workshop.... and the presenter, when she called me for my resume consult basically told me I was liar when I had the usual complaint that "oh just about EVERY entry level job where I am is DEMANDING that I have anywhere between 2 to 5 years experience already before applying"... and instead of confirming that is the problem with the job market today, she instead condescended to me saying "oh no honey that's bc they're HIGH LEVEL admin jobs demanding that and NOT ENTRY LEVEL. learn to read."
actually, no, sandra (not her real name). they're NOT high-level jobs. they're run of the mill front desk reception or call centre jobs, which are also basic data entry jobs.... that only 20 years ago (probably) would've been a walk-in off the street and be employed tomorrow thing, or NO experience needed, we'll train you!" type shit if you applied online.
now these positions are DEMANDING 2 to 5 years experience AND sometimes a combined traineeship for 1-2 years in business admin, pr that you ALREADY have the tafe cert III in business admin, bc they don't want you wasting time studying or waste their time training you. that's why I keep applying for traineeships bc half of these positions already come with one, or "the chance to take on a traineeship" which means, "we'll make you do it anyway and not reduce your workload to accommodate study time". if the job is advertised as a full-time position without the traineeship attached in the title (like a junior admin officer job or something that i've applied for at a local lawyer before).
just. I hated how dismissive this woman was all around. I know I should probs complain tk social services about her, but idk if anything would actually happen. and plus she'd be all like "oh everyone else in that class loved me, why don't you? just keep vibrating at 70htz in loathing and resentment and GET NO OPPORTUNITIES EVER bc of that. why did my teaching not get the IMPORTANCE of vibrating at 500htz ie. LOVE AND PEACE AND ACCEPTANCE is the ONLY thing that'll give you abundance and opportunities, through to you????"
uh maybe bc I see job hunting as a practical thing and not all the batshit reiki shit that I like in asmr for entertainment.... and the vision board mumbo jumbo of self-help internet is great coming from youtubers like Anna akana.... but NOT in a jobhunting working shop.... where you're guilting people about this mumbo jumbo is exactly why they'll never employed ever again. and esp since my old workplace tried to fire me for "ruining the positive family vibe of this workplave bc you rolled your eyes at me twice and are sarcastic from time to time 😥" during my performance meeting in November 2022. so obvs, I'll refuse to take that side of it seriously.
anyway my point was originally that im pissed of that this woman insisted that entry level jobs that are advertising 2 to 5 years experience aren't "entry level jobs, they're high level." when she was posed as an "employment expert" for this course.
no. they're NOT high-level jobs the bulk of the time. they're fucking run of the mill data entry which really only requires minimum skills in microsoft office and admin etc and a professional phone manner etc.... but instead they're asking for 2-5 years experience and intermediate to advanced microsoft office skills (or google suite etc) bc they want the applicant to do 25 jobs in place of 7 different people. which is shit I should be able to do with an arts degree. you're the one who really knows nothing.
but instead they want to drag me through another whole ass certificate 3 course and ANOTHER traineeship bc apparently an arts degree and a years worth of actual solid office experience isn't enough to man phones, do data entry, do front office reception and whatever dumbass shit "done with minimal supervision superhero" tasks they write in the job description on seek et al
#life#about me#shut up ilona#ilona's jobhunting thoughts and woes lol#ilona's work thoughts#ilona's work dilemmas#also posting this here bc i was supposed to comment kn something similar on linkedin#but then i accidentally refreshed my feed and lost the comment.... and i also thought better of it tbh

Hi, Kirri! I'm from South America and I'm trying to do a research about australian high school. I would like you to clarify some questions I have about school subjects, like: which ones are optional and which are mandatory? also, if you could send me some reliable websites than i can look up. every website i see says something different, can be very confusing so I decided to ask a australian person. Thank you!!!!
Hi, hey, i've been summoned! Okay, i'll admit to you upfront, it's been a hot minute since I was in high school so my knowledge is partly from personal experience but also what is published online. The school structures and curriculum differs from state to state, so it's no wonder you had trouble finding clear answers. I'll try to explain simply:
Australian high schools run from years 7 to 12. (We actually have 13 school years in total including Kindergarten, or preparatory, which is not numbered.) Students can finish in year 10 if they choose not to complete their senior years and test for university entry. If a student finishes in year 10, they get a Record of School Achievement; if they finish senior studies, they get a certificate of education depending on which state they're in:
NSW - Higher School Certificate (HSC)
VIC - Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)/Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL)
QLD - Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE), Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA)
SA - South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE)
WA - West Australian Certificate of Education (WACE)
TAS - Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE)
ACT - Australian Capital Territory Senior Secondary Certificate (ACT SSC)
NT - Northern Territory Certificate of Education (NTCE)
The national curriculum has eight compulsory learning areas, which can be categorized into subjects:
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d71f822da31652fd003709e804ded924/ce2210e7d1cd0bd9-e7/s540x810/9784460dc5b593aca03aa781f6fabe4cb5469bf9.jpg)
Then there are a wide range of electives, which vary greatly depending on region, type of school (state-funded vs private/faith-based) etc. Students in years 9 and 10 typically choose three electives. Here is an example of electives available to a school in NSW.
In addition, many schools offer the opportunity to study a vocational (often trade-based) course in preparation for studies after high school, called TVET (TAFE-delivered Vocational Education and Training). Many of these course results in credits toward school outcomes. I guess you could say that TAFE to Australia is like community college to the US.
The school year is broken up into four 'terms', with dates varying between states (see links at end for a list). A typical school day goes from 8:45am to 3:00pm Monday to Friday, with breaks for recess and lunch between period. A 'period' = one class, which typically runs for 40 minutes.
Upon completing senior studies and final exams, students are given an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank), which they can use to select and be admitted to university. In fact, senior exams have just begun so it's a good time to keep an eye on social media and see how current students are talking about the experience! 'ATAR Day' (when rankings are released) is on December 14, another time to take a look.
Australia also has specialist high schools, such as creative and performing arts schools, intensive English centres (for students with English as a second language), sports schools, and technology schools. All of these must teach the compulsory subjects, but offer the chance to specialize in these areas.
Websites where you can learn more about the Australian curriculum:
Australian Curriculum Version 9.0 Australian Schools Directory
Study Australia
ACARA (for statistics)
TVET
ATAR
Hopefully that will help you! I hope you don't mind that I posted this answer but I thought it might be useful to others as well. If you have any other questions, go ahead and ask and i'll do my best!

The TAFE system in Australia provides access to a wide range of vocational education programs accredited by the National Training System/Australian Qualifications Framework. Courses in business, finance, hospitality, tourism, engineering, IT, and many more are available at a variety of Technical and Further Education Institutes. Candidates pursuing graded certificates and diplomas must pass a number of tests and assignments before moving on to the next level of study; many of these students need TAFE Assignment Help in order to succeed.

I've seen this after they come out of school too. I worked in a TAFE library (TAFE stands for training and further education for anyone who doesn't know) and part of the role was providing a bit of IT support. Being adult education we had a lot of older students doing training to re-enter the workforce that weren't super familiar with computers, not for doing research and assignment work, but I was surprised at how many young adults were the same, even those who had come out of school and I would have assumed would have been using computers for assignment work there. They would be going straight into coursework to become a nurse or community services worker or engineer or whatever, without knowing that when you download something it goes to download folder, how to structure and locate folders and files, difference between Save and Save As, saving to USB, how to identify which drive is the USB, shortcuts, even had to explain that you don't have to exit that program to open another, you can have them both open and even side by side. Basic word document formatting. And that's before you even get to good online research skills.
I suggested maybe there should be basic computer use class offered at the beginning of the year, but was told funding would be an issue. So it puts those students in a position where they might actually do well with the course subject itself, but are held back and struggle by lack of IT knowledge.
It's funny because my mum teaches prep and Grade 1, and quite often we talk about changes to education, and she'll say "we've been told that isn't important to teach young children to recognise cash any more" or "we've been told not to worry about fine motor skills" and it's like, but when are they going to learn it? Are we going to have to teach our hairdressing apprentices how to hold scissors and our trades apprentices how to hold tools, if they haven't developed fine motor properly in their early years? Will we need to teach adults how to recognise and handle cash? Because we're already seeing it in computer skills
Telling young zoomers to "just switch to linux" is nuts some of these ipad kids have never even heard of a cmd.exe or BIOS you're throwing them to the wolves
