Momswap au but a little different featuring a combo onion and Steven swap

First the crystal gems we have Jasper, Peridot, Lapis Lazuli, and Eyeball Ruby Jasper and Eyeball often being a permafusion known as sunset mookaite or just mookaite Eyeball is still called Eyeball due to there being other rubies in the rebellion

For Lapis while she did go through some of the trauma of being in the mirror in this timeline Rose heard that a gem had been mistaken for part of her army and made an effort to free her though only managing to after the diamond blast she has a slightly strained relationship with both Mookaite and more specifically Jasper while they are friends it isn't healthy for them to fuse sorta similar to how sugilite is.

For Peridot she was part of a largely failed rushed batch of random gems nearly all of them not emerging or the few that did emerge where in a state similar to being corrupted due to how surface their gems where placed to incubate Peridot was lucky because due to an earthquake she was given an extra layer of rocks that fell in front of her incubation area

Jasper and Eyeball where both extremely loyal to pink who was their diamond and once accidentally fused in front of her and had a panic attack due to conflicting feelings of loyalty and not wishing to be shattered however pink kept their secret mookaite and pink have a relationship that somewhat resembles pearls and pinks

Eyeball had previously been friends with Aquamarine however after accidentally fusing with her Eyeball was on her way to being shattered however Pink decided to give Ruby another chance as one of her personal guards

Now then rose falls in love with a human and decides to have a child the name that she and her partner decide to give that child the name Onion after one of the most resilient plants on earth (I mean have you seen wild onions and onion grass they sprout up everywhere) Onion has trouble communicating mainly communicating in a mixture of sign language, writing and the mumbling language that yellowtail uses Onion is also fluent in gemglyph

Onions parent (other than Rose) is Vidalia Onion having a half brother Sour Cream and a bio dad in Yellowtail as Yellowtail acted as a donor allowing Rose to become pregnant

Onion doesn't actually make friends very easily though he has a good relationship with a small group of new members of beach city Garbanzo, Pinto, Squash and Soup he also has a friend and at times babysitter in a neighbor named Steven

Now on to the home world group made up of Aquamarine, Pearl, Amethyst, Sapphire, Ruby and Bismuth

Aquamarine is very two-faced she pretended to be Eyeball's friend but immediately turned on her after an accidental fusing where Aquamarine was saved from being shattered

Pearl while once belonging to pink diamond was placed in blue diamonds court after pinks shattering Blue took a liking to Pearl and at Pearl's request gave her to Sapphire as Pearl requested to be assigned to someone in order to help keep her mind off the trauma

Sapphire kept Ruby with her as a permanent guard after the shattering of the others in her squad

Sapphire's story is the same while she loves Ruby the event where Ruby saved her didn't result in fusing

Bismuth was sought out by Sapphire after a vision where she saw amazing weapons made for the diamonds by a Bismuth. She eventually leaves the homeworld group taking on a role similar to that of Jasper in the original series

The crystal gem b team is made up of 4 rubies, 2 topaz, and 2 jades that make up Lemon Jade

The four rubies rubies are Army, Leggy, Navy and Doc the two topazes are a permafusion and the two jades individually are Serpentine Jade and Prehnite though Lemon Jade is a near permanent fusion

With these guys I wanted to explore more aspects of same gem fusions

Oh another idea mainly just shipping onion and looking more at the b team also realized I forgot about Amethyst

Amethyst was taken in by blue diamond similar to what happened to Pearl while Blue was despite to cling onto those made in the earth she was concerned about Amethysts height and body mass so she consulted Sapphire who saw Amethyst being quite useful due to her small size while most quartz soldiers had more trouble moving through thick terrain without alerting the enemy Amethyst small size could quickly move without alerting enemies because she didn't need to destroy things just to get through an area

I think Larimar would take the basic role of bismuth though I'm not really thinking of this in terms of roles but more the personalities stay the same they all have some of their original trauma or a different variation of the original trauma honestly Larimar and Bismuth are the only ones that are truly close to the realm of roleswaps with Bismuth taking a variation of Jaspers original role and Larimar doing the same for Bismuths role

I think the two topazes would get the nicknames of Ighty and Lofy

The ruby squad got stranded on earth with Doc and Leggy adjusting the fastest while Navy appeared to adjust but really just was very scared of being left behind Army acting as Navy's main support out of the ruby group these rubies slowly start to realize that they are individuals and while they do love each other with Navy and Army having a more romantic bond compared to the rest of them they realize that their fusion while still a ruby is it's own thing sorta like how mega pearl is her own being

Ighty and Lofy go through a similar process however they already cared about each other though this bond is very much a queer platonic situation however when they fused they were told that the fusion was only the combined strength of 2 topazes and while there is some truth to that their fusion is for a while a bit more unstable because of this formative lesson and for a while they don't think of their fusion as her own being instead when fused they call themselves Topaz and Topaz and while generally stable they are prone to falling apart over even the slightest questions of identity

Serpentine and Prehnite for awhile felt safe on homeworld since they while not the same type of jade where still both jades and felt that if discovered they could get away with minimal consequences this was not accurate and they had to flee homeworld somehow ending up on earth while they enjoy being Lemon Jade they unfuse when larger groups of other gems are around unless it's a fight simply due to trauma

Larimar I think while mainly taking Bismuths place also contains the trauma of Lapis she was badly mistreated on homeworld due to what her higher-ups called a respect issue often asking questions about the life of planets she helped decorate in honor of the diamonds even trying to save some beings she was placed in an artifact similar to the dessert glass pillow after multiple rejuvenations till being rescued by Rose Larimar while grateful towards the crystal gems was very not okay she experienced many intrusive thoughts and didn't know how to cope with them and ended up getting very close to acting on many of them so Rose bubbles her and doesn't let anyone know

I also want to look more at the Heaven and Earth Beetles after all in their uncorrupt states they are still a lot more a animal like in appearance also they are some of my favorite background characters I think that while they Beetles where very high ranking gems they where very empathetic and something akin to Spidey sense with the diamond blast was done they dug deep underground afterwards they emerged they lived among humans and figured out how to protect each other even fusing into Geode they are both mute and while not considering themselves crystal gems (they feel as though that would be insensitive given their high status in gem hierarchy) they are the ones who taught Onion sign language they also take the original Sapphire and Ruby's title of hopeless romantic couple

And now on to Onion as stated before Onion only has a few friends when it comes to humans mainly his half brother, Garbanzo, Pinto, Squash, Soup and Steven I think there would be a cute poly relationship between Squash, Onion and Soup with Garbanzo cheering them on

I think Vidalia would be much more involved in gem stuff compared to how Greg was that is her kid and while she gives him freedom you better believe she will get a shotgun and take out something that has hurt her kid

Yellowtail is also more involved though less so due to his job though this is a guy you beached one of his boats for father son bonding time in the dead bear dad episode

Onion is both more childish that Steven and more mature in the sense that Onion has many different thoughts and ideas on situations that cause him to process faster but he's more childish in the sense that he's been given a lot of freedom by Vidalia he both knows and deals with things a child his age shouldn't deal with while not being the mature person his family wants him to hence his both self destructive and more generally destructive tendencies however this version of Onion while still as unsettling as the original this Onion is very empathic and extremely conflicted about Rose he hates lying and very much worries about being the product of a liar as such he is very honest and blunt though he can tell when he shouldn't say anything he mainly ends up on the path of the original Steven due to wanting to show that he's good he's not a lair and that he can undo the lies of his mother Rose

He fuses with his friend Steven forming Oniven

He also fuses with Soup and Squash forming Broth

I think that Onion is less of a pacifist as he can get frustrated easily due to not many people understanding his form of communication

I think that for this au the events of future are more of an identity crisis Onion still can't separate himself from him mom Rose/Pink fully and wonders if because his mom wasn't a good person if that means he's a bad person this mainly starts with him telling lies which is something he prides himself in not doing often he tries to justify it as not wanting to worry anyone but it just gets worse as the lies to spare others pile up to the point where feels that if he tells the truth that he'll be abandoned

His corrupted form while being a kajiu like Steven is a paler pink and while mainly attempting to hurt himself also is more violent towards others

Also Soup getting now and arrow training from peridot and Squash getting trained in general combat by Mookaite is just yes
