ONEWE & Gravity lyrics
A/N: In celebration of my listening to the whole album and something about my brain chemistry being altered...
Yonghoon
Even if it's dangerous to die I wanna be, wanna be, wanna be with you
Leave it to Yonghoon to both make you never second guess the choices you make and yet somehow, at the same time, always make you doubt them. Case in point: tonight.Â
You werenât sure if the leather jacket was a good idea, it looked different than what you usually wore. A little too bold for you, even if you arenât one to avoid pieces like that. You pair it with some simple shirt and jeans with scratches and patches of torn fabric that are comfier than youâd guess. Looking into the mirror, you look good. It makes you feel confident. But itâs also new and it makes you unsure. The glint in Yonghoonâs eyes the moment he sees you, though, tells you everything you need to know. You shouldâve known the moment he told you to wait for him to change into something that will match with you better that some ridiculous idea has popped into his head. And here you are.
What was supposed to be a wholesome arcade date, one with playing games and silly bets and Yonghoon finally fulfilling his promise of getting you a plushie from one of the claw machines turned into much more. Youâre used to him being flirty, but not to this extent. And as much as you love when he slips into his confident, cocky role, itâs surprising he can keep it up this long. He acts like he owns the place, unless you need to talk to the staff or interact with the other people visiting and then heâs your well-behaved boyfriend again. But otherwise? Honestly the way heâs acting youâre surprised nobody has yet scouted him to be the lead of a drama.Â
He lets the character slip off slightly when youâre playing together, and itâs cute. Heâs cute. The constant changing from your softie of a boyfriend and the bad guy persona heâs playing for the entertainment of you both. You love his long talks about a motorcycle he doesnât have, you love that he makes Kanghyun a professional hustler and that he makes Harin a bouncer of a club that they donât own. Itâs more fun than youâd expect building this entire alternative universe of the guys being a gang with him.Â
Then a pair of teenagers passes by and his arm is around your shoulders immediately, pulling you into his side protectively. He turns his head back to glare at them, but you notice the second of uncertainty while he checks noone is looking.
âYour life is just one long skit, huh?â you chuckle fondly, leaning your head back on his shoulder.
âAh,â he hesitates, his eyes growing a little softer, âYou donât like it?â
âNo, I do,â you smile, hugging him from the side, âItâs so much fun.â
âWell,â he grins, pulling you even closer and kissing the top of your head, âItâs just me and you against the world, baby. We better make it fun.â
Harin
I can't ignore to call it love Something meant to be
What are you?
A question youâve asked yourself a thousand times before and that youâre asking yourself once more. If only there existed such a thing as clean cut categories for human relationships. Family, friends, lovers, enemies⌠Just pick one of those and be done with it. Simple as that. Life is such a messy thing anyway, why make it even harder. Yet nothing about your emotions right now is as simple, or really as complicated, as it seems.
You love Harin.
There can be no doubt about that. There doesnât exist a word that could ever be enough to describe exactly the feelings you have for him but from your options, love is the one that comes the closest.
Youâre aware of it when you wake up to his texts in the morning, and when you wake up earlier than him and immediately leave some texts for him to wake up to, and youâre aware of it late at night when you say goodnight. You know it to be true when your heart aches when you see him exhausted and struggling, and when it flutters as he feeds you soup when youâre sick and too weak to move.
You love him. Unconditionally, without any fear or doubt, from the day you met and until the end of time.
And as much as your insecurities and demons inside your head want to tell you otherwise, you know Harin loves you too. Honestly, at this point the only way you could be more like a couple is to move in together instead of constantly sharing each otherâs living spaces. Or to confess. Actually officially become a couple. But thereâs something about that that seems just so wrong.
âWhat are we?â a whisper spills from your lips as you sit facing each other in a small cafĂŠ. Itâs a question shared with your mug of warm liquid, yet the answer comes from the man it concerns. You hear him smile before he speaks.
âIn love,â he says as if itâs the simplest thing in the world. Your head shoots up, you almost drop the mug but heâs quick to steady your hands. So familiar with your behavior. You meet his eyes and you feel like you have a headache without the pain. All your thoughts are locked behind a wall of fuzziness.
âThatâs all?â you ask, shy and uncertain. You feel a little stupid, a little confused, and the way he avoids your eyes for a second tells you so does he.Â
âDo we need more?â he replies eventually. Something clicks into place. You donât. You love each other, and for now thatâs enough. You shake your head, and yet⌠some doubt lingers. It is enough, more than enough. StillâŚ
âSoon, maybe?â he suggests with a knowing smile. You swear that if people are really made of stardust, you were together before the Earth even existed.
Kanghyun
I'm a gravity Pulling towards us, you and I
When someone asks you how the two of you met and got together, the best and most truthful answer is to say that itâs an interesting story.
This, of course, never satisfies anyone but the whole tale seems too personal, too intimate to share with just anyone beside the people closest to you, and so the most they get out of you is that it was fate and a small shrug. Kanghyun and you enjoy the sense of mystery it creates around the two of you. You almost think that at this point some of your friends have little meetings every now and then to piece together new slivers of information that youâve let slip. Most people that stay in your lives get to hear the full story anyway, and those who donât have no use for it, do they?
Anyway, it fills you with warmth when occasionally someone mentions that watching you, they do believe the thing about fate.Â
If only they knew.
And nothing stops you from telling them. You could tell them about the boy you kept seeing on the bus to school who always seemed lost in his own world. About how one day youâve gathered all your courage to sit next to him and you found out his voice is really nice and his face is so pretty, and that despite how shy he was, he was easy to talk with. And how the next day you got your heart broken because he no longer took the bus and you were sure youâd never see him again.
You could also tell them about your first part-time job and the number of various bands trying to make it that occasionally busked in front of the building. There was one of them, you see, that you could never quite ignore and that youâd often sneak out to listen to. The guitarist was handsome and talented, even if it seemed he wasnât yet quite used to all the attention. For some reason though, as time passed youâd swear you saw him relax any time your eyes met accidentally.Â
And of course there was the possibility to skip all that and jump straight to the fateful library and the only copy of the book you both desperately wanted to read. You could tell the history from that point, sure, but that wouldn't be the true story of you. It would tell them nothing of the destiny that binds you.
"Were you my fate or were I yours?" Kanghyun asks, his thumb stroking the back of your hand. You look up from your book to see him already looking at you. It's a quiet evening after your friends left after a quick coffee together.
"Hmmm," you hum, squeezing his hand, "I don't know, but I think it's because of you we kept meeting."
He looks surprised, huffing shyly before meeting your eyes again.
"Why? You always made the first step," he wonders aloud. You smile.
"I've told you before," you remind him, leaning closer, "I always gravitate towards you. I don't know how, there's just something about you that draws me in."
Kanghyun chuckles with a shake of his head. He picks up his book again, yet his hand never leaves yours and you think he holds it just a little tighter.
Dongmyeong
Without you, there's no life I call you the one
You should stop, youâre being creepy - despite reminding yourself, you canât bring yourself to close your eyes or turn away.Â
The headache that made you go lie down has ebbed away and you feel pleasantly warm and relaxed. Grateful most of all, if youâre being honest.
Dongmyeong was worried when you suddenly got so weak and quiet, and so he insisted on watching over you while you napped after taking some pills. He mustâve been tired too, seeing as he fell asleep himself. And maybe you arenât being creepy. After all, heâs also probably watched you sleep even if only because he wanted to make sure youâre alright. You only want the same.
Itâs hard to remember a time when he wasnât such a big part of your life, harder still to remember when he wasnât in your life at all. Through thick and thin, the good and the bad, he stood by you and you by him. Youâd like to say that the majority of that time was good and happy, but well - life happens. At least things are looking up now.
You stretch your hand towards him. He doesnât stir at all, his breathing remains even and eyes closed. He couldnât look more like a fairy if he tried. You smooth some hair away from his face and behind his ear. He still doesnât react, sleeping soundly. You wonder if he stayed asleep if it was anyone but you. Youâd like to think not.
You look at the clock as you caress Dongmyeongâs cheek and note that itâs late afternoon. It makes you frown to realize how long youâve slept. Even though itâs good since you feel better, itâs a shame you werenât able to do much today. You could of course get up now and get some cleaning done, but that would mean abandoning your boyfriend and that you just canât do.
You like to write it down to being young and in love, or maybe to the limited amount of time youâre allowed to be together without responsibilities, but nothing seems intriguing without him. You can function, of course. Itâs not like you can put your life on hold until you can be together. When heâs here, however, you canât bring yourself to enjoy yourself without him by your side. Maybe youâre just clingy. Itâs not your fault, though, that his presence is like sunshine and doing chores with him, watching dramas with him, living with him is much better than doing it all alone.
You jump when you feel arms wrapping around your waist and a warm breath on your neck as your boyfriend giggles.
âDid I make you wait?â he sighs, settling so close to you itâd be hard to untangle. Not that youâre complaining.
âNo, itâs alright,â you say as you hug him even closer, âHow do you feel?â
âThatâs my line,â he pouts and only responds when you reassure him you feel better. âI had a nightmare. You werenât here when I woke up.â
âIâll always be here,â you press a kiss to his forehead, âYou know that, right?â
âYeah,â he smiles as he takes your hands into his, âThatâs why I woke up and wasnât worried at all.â
CyA
My heart gets possessive 'Cause I feel that I'm cooped up
Itâs somewhat of a routine. Your friend groups gather together, delicious food is eaten, drinks are drank, karaoke is sung, jokes and stories are told, and itâs a good time. You meet people you havenât seen in a while, what with everyone caught up in their own busy lives.
As you make rounds around the room, making sure no one leaves without chatting with you, you always end up the center of CyAâs attention. Sometimes itâs only a brief exchange of smiles, other times he comes up to you and hugs you or checks on you. Usually itâs short and sweet, but as the night gets late, he tends to stay with you for longer and longer. Heâs not that big on affection in public, but at times like these his hand never leaves yours as you move from one group of friends to another.
You know he trusts you, and that he feels guilty about his behavior. He doesnât want to hover, really, nor make you feel like you canât hang out with your friends without him. He doesnât want to make you feel uncomfortable in any way, and he doesnât. You find it strangely heartwarming for the most part, honestly you only worry about him. It must be uncomfortable for him, to feel like he does.
Heâs explained it to you once. Since he doesnât have that many friends and thereâs only one you, he feels nervous about losing someone. Youâre all dear to him, especially you. And when everyone gets together, it feels strange to see everyone hanging out with other people. You most of all⌠Itâs not that he wants to get jealous, but itâs strange to suddenly be out of the center of your attention. Youâre his. He knows that. And he knows his friends wonât easily abandon him either. And yetâŚ
Emotions canât be controlled, you know that very well. Still you wish heâd see that you donât mind. Itâs good that you get the chance to speak with everyone, but itâs all the better when CyAâs with you. Heâs your person, after all, and his presence gives you a chance to relax and hear him tell your stories from his perspective. Itâs fun. Itâs a reminder of you sharing your lives together, and is there really anything youâd enjoy more than that? You donât think so. Safe for when everyone leaves and you go home and itâs just the two of you again. Just you and CyA in your own little bubble that might as well be heaven.
âIâm sorry,â he whispers into your ear as he hugs you from behind, swaying slightly to the rhythm of the music playing in the background, âI just donât like thinking about losing you.â
âThen donât,â you tease gently before turning in his hold, âYou have nothing to worry about, Giuk. Iâm yours. And honestly, I really like it sometimes - when weâre out and you pull me closer and hold my hand.â
âReally? I donât want to be too much,â he leans his forehead against yours, smiling when you lean further into the touch.âYouâre not. It makes me feel protected. I just want you to know Iâm not going anywhere,â you remind him, kissing the corner of his mouth. He nods, blindly following your lips until they meet his. Finally he relaxes, melting into the kiss and into you. How could you ever so much as consider leaving when this, he, is your home?Â

peppermint gum, m | jjk | and burst forth
pairing(s):Â jungkook x reader
Itâs impossible to fall in love when youâre already in love. And Jeon Jungkook was in love. Helplessly. But what could he do? Time passed. The world became tasteless to his eyes. All he could do was hold onto the crisp and intense color of those memories, remember her words, and wonder where she was now. Savor, and burst forth.

--
Jungkook woke up with crusty eyes and on top of the love of his life.
Sexy.
Not.
He woke up with a start, the last dregs of an icy and panicked nightmare clawing at him. He couldnât even remember what happened. The only way he could describe the sensation was that it was as if the color blue had become an emotion. Which was crazy talk, but honestly at this point what was new? After all, Jungkook was peeling his eyes open with effort and seeing the most beautiful sleeping face under him, even with the dark circles under her eyes.
He froze.
Oh, shit, what have I done?
A frown flitted over her features.
Her eyes opened a crack.
He squeaked and immediately ducked. Shoved his face into her chest, hurriedly wiping away at his face with the cuffs of his sleeves. I canât show my face like this, I look so stupid and pathetic, Iâ
âJungkook?â
Her voice was low and unused.
âWhat⌠What the fuck are you doing?â
He could still feel the residual ache between his eyes from crying so much, but at least he had cleaned up his eyes and felt a little less like a crispy bun left in the oven too long. âIâŚâ Pausing, but the truth came tumbling out anyway. âI didnât want you to see me uglyâŚâ
He mumbled into his hands.
She snorted and Jungkook jumped as her hands settled in his waist, squeezing him, only now realizing that his sweatshirt paws were on top of the curve of her breasts. Thankfully, she was clearly wearing a padded bra under. How she slept in it was beyond him. Then again, she managed to sleep with a whole ass man on top of her, although his lower body was in between her legs.
She held onto him.
âBelieve me, Iâve seen ugly. Youâll never be close to ugly in my eyes.â
She said it sleepily and with her head tilting back to stretch her neck. He couldnât say anything. How could he? Oh, sure, if he was unserious, and he opened his mouth to joke back but nothing came out. He almost wanted to cry again. Instead, he shut his mouth and trembled, trying not to put too much weight onto her. She either didnât care or had enough grace to not comment.
âYou still snore pretty bad.â
âS⌠Sorry.â
She cracked her neck and exhaled over his head.
Her hands relaxed and slid over his lower back.
His eyes widened, overwhelmed by the cool, heady rush swirling through his body at her touch.
âI got used to it then, so I guess itâll just take time,â she murmured.
For a second.
For a fleeting, perfect second, Jungkook was held by his most precious memory.
Then, she patted him in the back and her hands retreated. A soft groan and her palms planted onto his chest, lightly pushing him away, wiggling under him. He promptly backed up, turning his head away and hiding his disappointment, but she didnât look in his direction, stretching and yawning, pointing towards the bathroom, go ahead and get washed up, Iâll get you a towel for your face, and he latched onto the suggestion to scurry away, trying not to seem too hurried, his large black parka carelessly falling onto the floor with a heavy thump.
It was suddenly cold and far too bright.
But he couldnât run back to her.
His head snapped towards the mirror the second he burst into the bathroom.
I look like shit.
The pink flush on his cheeks deepened to red as he approached the sink, dropping his head and turning on the water. Splashing his face and gasping at the cold. Fuck, I am such an idiot. It wasnât supposed to turn out like this. It wasnât supposed to be like this. He was supposed to be cool, calm, and collected and sweep her off her feet with his newfound coolness. Instead, he had broken down and cried like a child in her arms until he passed out from all the emotional energy he expelled. Great. Way to look dumb, Jeon Jungkook. He scrubbed at his face with his palms, hoping to peel off a layer and reveal a better man, as if he was some kind of golden onion and not a fractured, incomplete, whiny little bitch.
âHey. Hey! Maybe youâve heard of the term facial peel, but what you are doing is not what the term means.â
Jungkook jumped at the interruption, and was greeted with a plop to the face from a fluffy white towel. His reflexes caught it right away, pressing it to his cheeks, embarrassed again. All he could muster out was a t-thanks, and then he started again as he felt her crouch and open the cabinet under the sink, accompanied by sounds of clunking.
âHere. Pick a toothbrush. Pink or purple?â
He yanked the towel off his face and saw himself in the mirror, his half-wet black hair sticking straight up, and then he looked down, startled and wide-eyed. She raised an eyebrow at him, down on one knee and prosing the choice of a light pink toothbrush in one hand and a lavender-colored one in the other.
She shrugged. âSorry. Last ones in the multipack are these colors. I save the fun colors for guests so they can distinguish themselves.â
He glanced at the one in the holder and it had a black handle.
âUh⌠I guess Iâll take the purpleâŚâ
He took it, careful not to made skin-to-skin contact.
She disappeared under the sink again.
âI have a travel toothpaste ifââ
He jerked his head, his mouth full of suds.
âOr you can just use mine,â she said slowly, lowering her hand. She shoved the travel toothpaste back under the sink, presumably in its previous hiding place. âNot like we havenât swapped spit before, I guess.â
He tried to apologize, but she stood up, waving it away.
âWhat do you want for breakfast?â she asked, taking her toothbrush and starting her own routine.
It feltâŚ
Normal.
Shockingly, unbelievingly, scarily normal. Her and him, in close quarters, standing beside each other and sharing the mirror and the space. Similar to his small apartment back then. Similar to the tiny hotel rooms they sometimes visited when his previous roommate was there. These days Jungkook had a bigger apartment and lived alone. Just like her, it seemed. She had was a clean and modern bathroom, but he saw her touches all around it. The black cherry scented lotion. The large dark gray bath towel with a matching fluffy hair towel wrap hanging on a hook beside it. The black wire basket above the toilet held neatly stacked white rolls. They looked soft and plush.
Her toothbrush holder was matte black glass.
Sleek and elegant.
He leaned down and used his hands to cup some water, the used towel around his shoulders. Rinsed and spit, trying to be efficient. And not disgusting. He continued staring down at the sink bowl.
Unable to lift his head.
âYou⌠You must be tired of meâŚâ he mumbled, exhaling as evenly as he could, the mint flavor cooling his tongue and the inside of his mouth.
She answered slightly muffled.
But dead serious.
âYou can stop pretending you are inconveniencing me and simply accept what Iâm doing for you.â
Jungkook raised his head.
There was a brief heartbeat exchanged in the mirror. Seeing each other in reflection. Somehow it was more honest than being eye to eye. Well, of course, because he had been having trouble all morning making any real eye contact, but in that brief moment, in that second of time that felt like hours, in that gum bubble right before the jarring pop moment, she saw right through him. He let himself be seen, and it seemed as if she knew and accepted what his true feelings were, despite his fear of his wants being too ugly to admit. Knowing him better then he knew himself, just like how it always was.
Had been.
What?
She kept brushing her teeth absentmindedly, and then moved past him, picking up the other cup to rinse her own mouth and spit. He backed away, but not too far. Wiped his hands on the towel given to him. The unspoken intent lingered, do you still not understand what is happening here, and he did, but he was afraid to be wrong.
He was so very afraid.
And yet.
Her head was right there, soft hair and all.
His hand lifted.
She rose quickly and his hand retreated immediately. She was speaking and opening the mirror, revealing the hidden cabinet and an array of crammed skincare. All higher end brands, along with an onyx gua sha stone with its own stand, and a lip balm she plucked off the edge and applied.
âI have bread, eggs, cheese. Can make eggy toast topped with cheese and have kimchi on the side. Extra butter to make the bread crispier. Youâll like it.â
âI⌠wuh?â
-
You make the eggy toast and ate breakfast with Jungkook.
A big chunk of butter slapped into the hot pan. Then pan-toasting the bread on both sides until golden brown before pressing down the center of the bread slice with a ladle, creating a shallow bowl to drop an egg in. You had let the egg cook for a bit before sprinkling a little salt and white pepper, then added shredded cheese on top and covered the pan, giving it a few seconds to melt before removing the eggy bread from its warm home and onto a plate. Added some kimchi on the side for some prickled freshness and handed the meal to Jungkook, who had hovered around you the entire time, providing various oohs and aahs with your every action.
Your one-man hype squad.
It wasnât the most Korean meal, but he had been drinking the night prior. A hangover meal of sorts.
You didnât talk much.
You had already done enough. It was pretty obvious what was going on here. The real question was whether or not to let it happen. Still, you couldnât let Jungkook cry himself to sleep in your arms the night before and not send him off with a full belly. Even if he never spoke to you again, it wouldnât have sat right with you. It felt too heartless to straighten up and tell him to get out right after waking.
And, anyway.
You had missed him.
It made no sense. It wasnât like you had deeply invested into those few months with him. You had been too caught up in your endless cycle of self-destruction to truly appreciate how much Jungkook liked you. It was obvious, of course. He followed you like a puppy and never wanted to leave your presence, but you had chalked it up to him being young and not knowing better. In fact, you had originally thought he was still chasing a fantasy up until last night, but no amount of your denial could explain away his words or those tears. He had grown up, at least enough to understand that reality and dreams werenât one and the same. And yet he had clung onto those memories of you, even if he thought that the future he was heading towards was tasteless.
That took a certain kind of stubbornness.
Well, you must be stubborn to stay in love, no?
You paused mid-bite.
Jungkook was stuffing his face. You had made him two pieces. He had seemed very hungry. You spooned more kimchi onto his plate distractedly, your mind wandering. Devotion was stubbornness. Wavering was lack thereof. Stubbornness was often an act of selfishness and that was still true in love. It just depended on how one imposed that selfishness onto another.
You felt a tap on the back of your hand.
You started, blinking out of your thoughts.
He was staring.
âYou didnât finish eating,â Jungkook gulped, tilting his head. âSomething wrong? I thought it was really tasty.â
This was coming from someone who would eat basically anything. Still, you took it as a compliment. Not because you needed to be complimented, no, because you saw his black-brown eyes sparkle when you half-smiled at his comment. Just for that. Just to give him the small happiness of knowing you valued his praise. You could be humble about the culinary skills you had acquired over the years simply so you didnât look arrogant, but, then again, the result would be that Jungkook would feel as if his words werenât worthwhile and that was not the truth.
Even if your mind wasnât so sure, you still smiled for him.
No matter the result, you loved me back then, in the only way you know how. You taught me about your love, whether I believed in it or not. Very ox-like of you, Jeon Jungkook.
âDo you think we should go on a date?â you suddenly asked.
His big peepers popped open wide.
âA d-date?!â
-
âWhat should I wear?!â
âNothing.â
Park Jimin and Kim Taehyung high-fived each other with a simultaneous maniacal giggle as Jungkook stood next to his open closet door with his eyebrow twitching. So much for having older friends giving their mature opinions.
âVery funny,â Jungkook muttered under his breath.
âIsnât that how you get âem, JK?â Taehyung teased, grinning with all his teeth. Typically, Kim Taehyung gave off a mature, elegant vibe. He was the kind of handsome that could elevate any look with his strong features and cool demeanor. The deep baritone voice only added to his manliness. âJust rip off your shirt and bam!â
With close friends, though, Taehyung was an idiot.
âWhat if he walked into the restaurant and tore open his shirt?â Park Jimin snorted behind his small hand, trying to be polite but failing miserably with the nonsense coming out of his mouth. âDo you think his date would notice first or do you think he would get arrested first?â The epitome of cute and airy, Jimin was the type that ended up being social because he looked so approachable with his soft features and endearing eye smile. He always drew in a crowd with his genuine emotion behind his carefully considered words.
Which meant that Jimin was also the type to rub in the teasing until he really, really grated those nerves.
Sigh.
âYouâre not helping, guys,â Jungkook growled, thumbing through his very monochrome closet. Black, white, gray, classic blue denim. Not much color. Shit, was he really this boring? Honestly, he ended up selecting basics mostly for the reducing decision fatigue when picking out an outfit for every day. It did not, however, help when he needed to impress.
Especially because Jungkook rarely wore or owned any formal wear.
Was a dress shirt too much? Too little? Not a good indication of the kind of man he was now? He didnât want to portray like a better or false version of himself. But he had to look good. Fuck. This was way easier when his only goal was to get laid and not to have a relationship.
âYou still havenât told us who it is,â Taehyung piped up, still sitting on the end of Jungkookâs bed with Jimin. One would think the fashion model of the two would get up and start pulling things, but he didnât budge.
âYeah, we need deets,â Jimin chimed in. âWe canât suggest anything without context.â
Jungkook responded flatly. âItâs a girl.â
He could practically hear the eye roll in Jiminâs response. âWow, what an underwhelming gender reveal. Next time bring those poppers with pink confetti while youâre at it.â
âUh, well, do you know her personally or is this blind date status?â Taehyung asked, sounding confused.
âI know her.â
Jungkook knew precisely why Taehyung was confused, but didnât address it. Jimin, however.
âWhy are you being so cagey? By now you would have shown us a pic.â
Yeah, by now, he would have shown a face photo or even the dating profile. To be honest, Jimin was the most useful on pinpointing perfect outfits that screamed âfuck me nowâ even with only a few pics or a limited text exchange. He was some kind of wizard at that. Personal experience? Who knew. Taehyung ended up being emotional support and occasionally the voice of reason.
âUgh, is it that stuck-up bitch from a couple months ago?â Taehyung suddenly stood up, coming up behind Jungkook. âI donât like her.â
âI told you I didnât even sleep with that one,â Jungkook mumbled, moving away as Taehyung thumbed through his jackets, took out a fitted light denim one, and put it on himself, modeling in the full-length mirror for who-the-hell-knows-what reason. Too casual, right?
âGood, because nobody liked her,â Jimin tutted.
Yet she did look similar to a clean someone.
Not as pretty, though, Jungkook knew.
Sometimes he had to take what he could get. Not that time, because they were both right. That womanâs personality was awful. Had been best to run right away. Jungkook frowned as Jimin stuck his hand out right in front of his face, waving it around.
âGive me your phone.â
âNo.â
âWe need pics!â
Jungkook offered one detail. âSheâs hot.â
âNo shit?!â Jimin gasped sarcastically. He staggered back with a fluff of his bleach blond hair. âThatâs so out of character for you!â
Jungkook glared and thought about biting him.
Did not.
For now.
âAh!â
Jungkook froze. That was the type of exclamation Taehyung let out when he realized something important. The kind where Taehyung pointed upward and popped his fist into his open palm, about to say the very important thing and blow everyoneâs minds.
âItâs her, isnât it?â
He could sense Taehyung was facing him now. Jungkook couldnât raise his head to look. His abrupt muteness was enough of answer. He felt Taehyungâs strong hand on his shoulder, but he continued to stare at his clothes as if they could magically answer in his stead, chewing on the left side of his lower lip nervously.
âAm I right, Jungkookie?â Taehyung asked again softly. âI thought you said she disappeared.â
Itâs impossible to fall in love when I have always been in love with you.
There was a pang in his chest, sharp and intense.
âGuess⌠Guess nobody disappears forever,â he finally muttered.
Jimin jerked back, stunned. âWoah, wait, wait.â
Taehyung knew more than Jimin. Not really for any other reason than gut feeling. Somehow, after he had finished moping and feeling sorry for himself, Jungkook had felt that Taehyung would understand the intensity of it all. Taehyung had a grounded personality, but there was certain je ne sais quoi about the dark-haired man. Call it a hunch from the partial truths of described rendezvous in Paris and his occasionally off-the-cuff viewpoint on things. Taehyung had always been inseparable from Jimin ever since they met, so Jungkook had to tell the other male too, but back then Jimin was kind of aâŚ
Well.
A slut.
Safe and consensual, but dude had been going through his hoe phase. He hadnât been in a place to understand how profound those memories had been for Jungkook. Therefore, Jungkook had just said he really loved her despite the short timeline. Jimin had told him he was an idiot to believe that. Taehyung had whacked Jimin in the back of the head for that. He did apologize right away, but it wasnât until years later that Jimin really comprehended the depth and apologized. By then, though.
It was all too late.
âAre you sure this is a good idea?â Jimin worriedly chittered. âShe broke your heart last time. Bad.â
Jungkook looked up.
âIâm fine.â
âAre you?â Taehyung persisted. âCome on, donât act like we havenât noticed you have a type. You think Jimin and I are cross-eyed and blind? Not to mention you usually drop girls like hot potatoes with your weak-ass excuses.â
âYeah, for instance, you randomly stopped seeing one girl because she liked sweets,â Jimin pointed out.
âShe likes sweets,â Jungkook interrupted. âBut only sour candy. She would always give me any chocolate she received.â
Taehyung rubbed his forehead, his tan skin glowing under the overhead lights. âDude.â
âThis is not good for you.â Jimin sighed, expression apprehensive. He resembled the skeptical emoticon with his rounder and more animated face. âSetting aside if she has become a better person or not⌠why now? And could she really be as great as you think she is or are you trying to make her live up to an impossible fantasy?â
âIt just happened,â Jungkook snapped. âWe ran into each other the other night.â
Jimin frowned. âA little fast, isnât it?â He was slipping into his Busan satoori with his frustration. It often came out around at the same time Jungkookâs did since they were born in the same area.
âDid you at least talk to her for a long time?â Taehyung playing devilâs advocate in this case. He loved a swift romance, as unlikely as it could be. Red string of fate, soulmates, the works. âWhat was it like?â
Jungkook would never call himself a poet.
He simply answered exactly how he felt.
âIt was like I was able to finally come home after a long journey,â he breathed out.
Jimin and Taehyung exchanged a look. But Jungkook didnât care anymore, lost in her smile, her touch, her smell, lost in that night. It didnât make any sense, of course, because she was vibrant as she was calm, but that was how it was. Coming home. Like bursts of color back into his desaturated world. From the mundane to the extraordinary, even from something as basic as standing beside each other and brushing their teeth.
He had just liked knowing it was her.
âDid you guys sleep together?â
Jungkook gave Taehyung a side-eye. He got a shrug in response.
âNo. We⌠went home.â
What?
Was he supposed to say, no, I ended up at her place and I cried myself to sleep in her arms? Hell no. Some things were meant to be secrets. Even Jungkook had good enough sense to leave well enough alone. Couple white lies here and there werenât going to condemn him. Sex before marriage might, but, eh, in that case he had been damnned for long before now. Whoops.
âUh huh,â Jimin mused. âAlright then. Letâs pick an outfit.â
âWhat about this?â
âTaehyung, you would wear that,â Jimin scolded, pulling out an olive-green bomber jacket.
âArenât sweater vests are outdated? I saw that on TikTok.â
âTheyâre not outdated!â Taehyung scolded Jungkook, putting back the black sweater vest with white trim. âAlso, real life is not TikTok, dork. I was thinking without an inner shirt, anyway. Show off the arms.â
Jimin hummed, considering. âSomething lighter. Do you have something similar in cream? Or beige? Plus some medium wash blue jeans and a studded belt. She was kinda edgy, I remember.â
âUh, lemme lookâŚâ
âBeanie?â
âYo, the hat hair?â The Busan dialect was coming out again due to Jiminâs agitation.
âHe looks cute in them!â
âWeâre not serving egg even if he is over easy.â
It took a moment for Jungkook to register the scalding degree of that burn.
âHey!â
-
âWhat should I wear?â
âClothes?â
You turned around to see Kang Hyungu with his raised hands and a clueless expression. âNormal people wear clothes to a date,â he reasonably stated.
You answered dryly.
âVery funny.â
You were not amused. The cerulean-haired guitarist struggled and turned away from the video call, rummaging around in his kitchen and making a lot of noise. From this angle you could peek the bottom of his dark purple undercut and his cutesy Pingu t-shirt. Hyungu was a very manly looking guy, but he never hesitated to wear graphics that he found adorable. Too secure not to.
âYou didnât order take-out again, did you?â
He made a noise that was neither affirmative or negative, which meant he definitely did. âIâm not in the mood to cook.â The word cook was being used generously here.
âWhich means you made melodies all day, huh?â you interjected.
Hyungu stuck his big eyes and handsome (yet generally expressionless) face back onto the screen. âItâs such a burden to be so talented and hardworking, but someone has to do it.â
You ignored his plight. âShould I wear a dress?â you asked, pawing through your hanging articles of clothing.
âDuh.â
You frowned and looked over the dresses one by one. None of them felt right though. The date was a meal and then who knows. There was a variety of shops around the area, so it might be fun to look around and talk, perhaps. Tight dresses out, probably. You werenât about to freeze your ass off for the vibes.
âMaybe I should wear pants?â you wondered out loud.
âNah, noona. You look way better in dresses.â
Despite not having much expression around strangers, Hyungu had strong opinions when asked. In fact, he was so quiet that he often faded into the background before chiming in at the most random of times. He was one year younger than Jungkook. Upon first glance, he looked older, but anyone who knew Hyungu personally was subject to his seriously unserious nature.
âWhoâs the guy?â
âSomebody I used to know,â you replied absentmindedly, pulling out a high-waisted black skirt with silver hardware and pleather suspenders. Hm.
You heard the frown in his voice. âSomeone I know?â
âNope.â
âI donât like him.â
âYou donât like anybody I go on dates with,â you shot back, pulling out a white ruffled shirt and a black velvet one. The skirt was designed to sit right under the bust so some type of undershirt was a must. The white seemed too contrasting. You could unbutton a few buttons of the black velvet dress shirt, or maybe go for a fitted red-and-black striped top to make it more casual. Maybe more casual was the move. The sushi restaurant wasnât upscale. But, also, you didnât care about being overdressed. A loose t-shirt might be a cool vibe too. Choices.
âThey like you for the wrong reasons,â Hyungu scolded, ramming noodles into his mouth.
âWho cares?â
Nah, black velvet shirt it was. More comfortable and the mixing of textures made for a good monotone outfit. Plain black knit thigh-high socks were a no-brainer too. Plus, then you could wear black boots which was better for the colder weather.
âI do! Theyâre lame and disrespectful.â
You hunted for your sterling silver guitar pick necklace. âI keep telling you that Iâm not looking for a relationship with them.â
âWell, you should look for a relationship with someone.â
You upturned your lips and raised an eyebrow at the screen of your phone propped up against your perfumes. Hyunguâs face still hadnât changed much from his baseline neutral, other than one cheek bouncing up and down with each chew. At least he had the decency to keep his mouth shut. âThis again?â
âYou deserve to be happy, noona.â
He said it like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
You paused.
Then you rolled your eyes. âSome guy isnât gonna make me happy.â
âThe guy will make you happy.â And then Hyungu shoveled some rice in his mouth. He was a man of equality. All carbs were his friends.
You let out a silent, heavy exhale. âYouâre so sure about that.â
âYeah, I am,â he continued with a munch. âEven if youâre delusional about it.â
You puffed one cheek. âIâm not delusional about anything. Iâm very rational.â
âI might have been drunk but I wasnât blind, noona.â
You froze.
âIâve never seen you act that way around a guy, ever.â
You tapped your fingertips against your dresser drawer, out of his field of view. The long seconds ticked by. Fuck it. âWhat do you think of him?â you questioned.
Hyungu made a scrunched face as he fought with the lid of a container that seemed to contain cucumber salad. His mother must have made it for him. âWhat was his name again?â
âJeon Jungkook.â
âOh. Yeah, he was with the group that was friends of the band, right?â
âYeah.â
He paused, twisting his lips to one side. âMmm, canât really remember that well. It was kind of noisy and you know how it is for me when thereâs a bigger group and Iâm not super close with anyone there.â
Your shoulders slumped. âI thought you said you were fine.â
He waved a hand, debating for a moment before simply eating out of the container. âGotta keep trying to get used to it. Anyway, I was more focused on getting along with the band since we have five more shows. But he did help us in getting home. He must not be a bad guy.â He looked up at you. In some ways, Hyungu was the most honest when he was playing guitar. People not close to him found him hard to read.
He was no mystery to you, though.
âCanât you tell that he really likes you?â
You broke his gaze, almost guiltily.
âNo one is supposed to like me. Iâm scary on purpose.â
Hyungu laughed.
âYouâre never been scary, noona.â
In the silence that followed, you and Hyungu had a silent conversation in words unsaid. You didnât look towards the screen, preferring instead to turn around and look through your jackets, pretending to search for something. You had been told before that you were unapproachable. That was by choice. You didnât need nosy loons talking about shit that they didnât know about. Thankfully, Hyungu had never done that. He simply told you what was what. Again, he was highly observant and, apparently, he had paid attention to Jungkookâs obvious signals.
âI donât know the history between you two, but you would be crazy not to go for someone who looks at you like that, noona.â
You turned around halfway, cocking your head. âHave you ever known me not to be crazy?â
He shot you one of those looks of his. The fed-up-with-your-shit look. âThen you would be stupid. And I know youâre not stupid,â he warned, as if it was a threat. âWear your long black fur coat. My mom is calling. Have fun.â
And then you saw him reach over and end the video call.
You stared at the phone screen as it faded to black.
Then you scoffed, shaking your head.
âNo need to be so weird about it, sheeshâŚâ
-
âUh, before I forget, I meant to tell you that you look really nice today, noona.â
She stepped out of the restaurant and gave him an amused smile. âAfter the meal?â
âS-Sorry!â
Jungkook knew Jimin and Taehyung would call him an idiot. Taehyung had told him repeatedly to remember to compliment her and stuff like that, but they had gotten so caught up with catching up on each otherâs lives after their parting that Jungkook had forgotten. He had told her about his video editing job at a music company and how he was working more towards production and directing. She had told him about how she worked to live, but her day-to-day job turned out to be a book editor with occasional other side projects. Somehow, strangely similar types of careers. Jungkook had told her about his friends and their antics. How he realized he was losing opportunities to make memories by staying in so he was trying to go out more to treasure those people. She had told him about how she never grew out of her gaming habit and how, with money, it had gotten worse. And how the rest of her free time and cash was spent on going to festivals and events to support Hyungu and his band, but it turned out she really loved discovering indie music as much as the next pop hit.
It was as if they wereâŚ
Friends.
It had been so easy, so simple despite his initial awkwardness. He had thought, for a moment, that she regretted asking him, but as soon as they sat down, she gently prodded him with conversation. The restaurant atmosphere left them alone together out in public. It was surprising because he remembered, back then at the PC bang, she had been prickly and reluctant to engage in human interaction. Now, she was confident and involved in their conversation. He saw flashes of her old, closed-off self when she paused before telling him something about herself.
But then she seemed to brush it aside and spoke calmly.
Is it because of me?
He didnât know. It was clear, however, that things had changed.
She had become more whole and, in turn, more beautiful.
âThanks, though,â she said with a laugh, buttoning her long black fur coat. Jungkook was a bit said about that because the all-black skirt and velvet shirt combo with the guitar pick silver necklace was so cool. Still, it was a frigid night, so he understood.
âI really did mean to tell you right away,â he insisted. They had chosen to walk around a bit to walk off the Japanese food they had just enjoyed. He was jam-packed with sushi.
âYour stunned face tipped me off enough. And the literal five seconds of silence and constant staring when I sat down.â
He felt his cheeks heat. âO⌠Oh.â
âI like how you look today too.â
She smiled at him.
Jungkook nearly stumbled. âT-Thanks! Although⌠I actually had a little help,â he admitted, sticking his hands in the pockets of his olive-green bomber jacket again. He had almost tripped only because his black combat boots had a platform. That was all. Yeah. Not because he dearly loved her smiling at him or anything.
âWell, they have a good eye, so I appreciate them.â
He tried not to roll his eyes. âThey would love to hear that.â But he wasnât going to tell them. Nope.
âHey.â
He stopped as she paused on the sidewalk. Turned around and she was looking down the street before back at him. A moment of hesitation.
Then.
She held out her hand.
Jungkook stared at it with wide eyes, his jaw dropping.
Her expression was between sheepish and amused, the corner of her lips ticking upwards. âThis is a date, right? Letâs try it. Holding hands.â
He didnât know how to feel. It wasnât as if he was foreign to public displays of affection, but back then he had always been the one to initiate. It had seemed that she tolerated it and he had continued to do it, blind to the inequality of affection. She had only initiated sexual activity, about as often as he did. But something like this? It was only now that he realized how much he had wished she had, even if only in private.
To others, it would seem odd that such a small action of affection would hold much significance.
He reached out.
Fingertips hovering over her palm.
He raised his head and Jungkook looked right at her, blinking hard, wondering if he was dreaming.
âIs it⌠Is it really okay?â
Her small smile shone in her eyes.
âUnless you have sweaty hands?â she lightly joked.
He felt his cheeks flush hotly. The innocent comment suddenly reminded him. âOh, uh⌠k-kinda, actually⌠w-well, they might g-get clammy âcause they get that way when Iâm nervous, umâŚâ
She let out a chuckle and dropped her hand.
âOkay.â
Before he could blurt out a hasty, w-wait, she stepped forward and hooked her hand in the crook of his elbow, resting her fingers on his right forearm, so close now that he could smell her warm, comforting perfume.
âHow about this?â
She tugged him forward with their linked arms. He looked down at her, startled, but now there was mischievous glint in those mysterious orbs shadowed by lashes. His skin prickled from the closeness, even underneath all the layers. Legs moving forward even if his brain hadnât caught up.
âYou thought I didnât remember that you like skinship?â
âI⌠I thoughtâŚâ He swallowed, trying to clear his throat and the fluttering of butterflies that had shot up from his stomach and into his throat. âI thought you hated it.â
She shrugged. âNormally I do. But I want you to be my exception.â
It was a good thing walking was a muscle memory action because Jungkook was pretty sure he was in a different daydream dimension at her response. Er, nightdream? Whatever. He couldnât fuck this up. Well, the crying on the couch was always a point against him, probably. He winced at the cringey memory.
âNoona, um.â
âHmm?â
âIâm sorry about the other night to your place.â
âYou mean when you sobbed and became a puddle on my sofa.â
Ouch. âY-YeahâŚâ
âI canât say I expected it. Itâs all good though. Iâve fallen asleep on that couch countless times.â
Itâs impossible to fall in love when I have always been in love with you. At the time, he had been too emotional to gauge her response to everything he said. Maybe this was all a pity ploy to his extreme reaction. He didnât want to believe that, but his mind was restless at the thought.
He needed to know.
âI meant it though. Everything I said.â
âI never took you for a liar,â she answered, holding onto him as they walked in step, their bodies lit up by the various colored lights each shop used to entice customers to enter.
He had to inhale deeply before asking. âI should have asked you how you felt though, before running my mouth like that.â
There was sound all around them. Noisy cars. Music from inside the stores and blasting dully from vehicles. Chatter from people all around them, on phones or huddled together. The echoes of steps blending together into an endless nighttime march. The occasional laugh or dinging of a bell when someone left a store. People who passed them glanced quickly before looking away.
It was conceited, but Jungkook enjoyed seeing their flashes of envy, even if all strangers could see was their outward appearance.
None of them knew the whirlwind between these bodies.
âI am the kind of person that always believed the past is in the past,â she finally said, holding onto him tighter. He tried not to stiffen when he realized the back of his upper arm was right by the side of her clothed breasts. âIt took me a while to accept that I canât do anything about the past or how it affected me. Likewise, I donât really believe in reconnecting with people. Drifting apart is natural. Not negative or positive, per se. Just happens. I always believed it happens for a reason.â
Oh.
He bit the left side of his lower lip. She continued.
âYou asked me back then, arenât you afraid that Iâll forget you? I answered a bit cheekily, I remember, but your question stuck with me. Nobody has ever asked me that, you know? In fact, I am used to being forgotten.â
There was something about her voice.
The quality of it had gotten mistier. Introspective. And hurt. It was not directed at him, but it was there despite an obvious attempt on hiding it. He felt her grasp onto him tighter, although maybe it was less about the physical aspect and rather to the things he had said.
âI had become so used to it, in fact, that I thought your question was ridiculous. Forget me? Of course, you will. It would be better if you do. We all need to move on from our past and not cling to a memory holding us back.â She let out a mirthless laugh, but softened, leaning her head against his shoulder. If the current topic wasnât so serious, Jungkook would have been over the moon. His heart beat fast regardless. âBut you didnât forget me. Even after all this time. I thought it was just because you wanted your dick blown.â
To be fair, that was a reason on the list.
Lower priority, but there.
Jungkook, once again, shut his mouth and left well enough alone.
She let out a breath.
It quivered in the cold, crisp night air and disappeared.
âI use reason and logic in my everyday life to interact with others. To maintain relationships. But love? Love is something that has no reason. I donât know how I feel towards the idea. I would not say the emotion is afraid, but it is not a positive one either. The idea of love constantly reminds me that it is something I lack. That something so basic was supposed to be mine, but I was denied it throughout my childhood without knowing it.â
She stopped.
Jungkook turned and saw she was gazing up at the moon. There were no stars visible from the city, but everyone knew they were up there.
âDid you notice I donât talk about my parents?â she asked softly.
He did. âYeah.â
Her tone seemed apologetic. âIs it selfish to expect some kind of affection from those who birthed you? Or even only a simple co-habitation relationship? Anything other than nothing?â
Well, shit. âI donât think so.â
She didnât say anything for a moment.
âI almost wished they had given me away. Or hated me. Something. Anything.â
Jungkook didnât know what to say.
Firstly, because he was not good at comforting anyone. Not even himself. He was simply sulky until he kinda got over it. Granted, much of it was first-world problems. He could always go running to his parents for advice or solutions if he couldnât think of any. Or his friends. But deeply personal stuff he kept to himself. It felt almost a burden to say something, so on some level he could understand the importance of what she was saying. Why it was significant that she felt the need to tell him. He could feel it and he was grateful she was willing to express it to him.
âI donât want you to experience a fraction of what I did. I donât even know how deeply those moments are embedded in me,â she sighed, loosening her grip on him. âI see those moments reflected in my instincts. The scars of my past stick to the soles of my shoes no matter where I step. I donât know how much of it is my true feelings or something that is simply fundamentally wrong with me.â
He remembered something.
âBut you said you want to learn love,â he said quietly.
They stayed beside each other, warmth whirling with warmth even when surrounded by cold, crisp air.
âI did say that, yeah.â
Then all those littler things. The things she said and the way she said them. The offer.
âI donât really understand love either,â Jungkook admitted.
She chuckled. âYeah, I got that from your chaotic reentry back into my life.â
Their arms were still entangled. Although she was the one holding onto him, Jungkook was the one who brought his arm closer to his body, pinning her forearm to him. She accepted it, not moving away. His body sung at the contact but his thoughts trembled.
He whispered to the moon and the darkness above them.
âIâm scared that one day you wonât want me to be in your life anymore. Again.â
He couldnât look at her. He was not about to bawl in public, for fuckâs sake.
âDonât let this end.â
I have always been in love with you.
No person could fill that void. He tried, countless times. Jungkook knew it was impossible, stupid, pathetic, crazy, all the conclusions. But it was not crazy to know that he would never be the same. Even so, he could have lived a satisfactory life. A fun one, even. It was not fair to chase those that didnât want to be found, so he hadnât. If it was all for the best, then it was for the best.
But she came back to him.
His peppermint gum love.
âIâll be stuck to you, you know.â
He turned his head and found her looking back at him. His pit-a-pat heartbeat, following the pop of each bubble, sharp and exciting, and he savored it. The seconds, the moments, the memories, all swirling into one. Everything. Everything, bright and intense and reminding him how it was like to live life.
Jungkook grinned.
âOkay.â
She smiled and raised herself.
And kissed him.
It was as if his fractured, desaturated world fell into place all at once and color burst forth.
Her soft scent pressed up against him, persistent, clinging, and he drowned in it, leaning into her lips, the softness and honesty together. Her fingers wrapped around his forearm to steady herself, their bodies now closer together, one of her legs between his. She had stepped forward to turn and make the distance. He held her, his left arm around her waist, and he wondered how it got there. A reflexive reaction, apparently.
She broke apart, her lingering exhale warming his lips.
He frowned slightly, opening his eyes.
âHeh. Thatâs it for now. We shouldnât be so forward in public, after all,â she pointed out with a smirk.
Jungkook narrowed his eyes. Put on his best, most convincing pout. âWho cares?â
She was laughing, shaking her head at him. âI do. You want to start this off with an arrest for public indecency? Thatâs a bang for sure.â She pulled on his arm, indicating them towards the sidewalk again.
âHmph, fine, but one more kiss.â
And he yanked her back, pressing his lips to hers again, and if this was impossible, stupid, pathetic, crazy, if he really was a fool, then he was one forever, smiling into her smile, her hands coming up to cup his cheeks, his arms around her waist, the unfaded memories and the engraved present finally meeting.
This is love.
He didnât understand it, but he didnât have to understand for his body to know it was real.
She leaned forward, past his nose and to his ear.
âYou like kisses, huh?â
It was then that Jungkook realized his body did, in fact, know something.
âUm⌠This has never happened before,â he mumbled, his cheeks burning.
She held tightly onto the collar of his jacket, her hair against his chin. Half of it was pulled back with a black claw clip. It gave an elegant yet casual look while also keeping him from hiding his blushing face from bystanders.
Just his luck.
âMaybe you didnât remember, but you also would get instantly hard whenever I kissed you back then too,â she teased, her warm breath grazing his ear. She was making it worse. Shit. Jungkook tried to bite the inside of his cheek. Her thigh was pressed between his legs so there wasnât much hiding of anything.
âNoona, please shut up.â
âAlthough maybe not with such innocent kisses.â
âNoona, pleaseâŚâ
-
You danced your fingers up his chest.
Each point of contact going from fingertip to fingernail. Bated breath. Strangeness and familiarity all at once, sitting on your bed with only the orb-shaped lamp on, cool blue artificial moonlight looking down upon the magic unfolding in this room. His hand raised and closed in around yours.
You looked up as warmth encircled your touch.
Jungkook smiled nervously.
âDoes it feel weird?â you asked him.
âA⌠A little bit,â he whispered. There was no reason to. Pointless, really, because you could hear the neighbor downstairs having some sort of wild party. Your apartment was silent. âMostly because I used to think about it a lot.â
You raised your eyebrows. âYou think youâll stop thinking about sex after I give it to you? Maybe I shouldnât, then.â
âThatâs not what I meant!â
He puffed his cheeks in exasperation. He grabbed your hand tighter, whining your name without the honorific, and you were suddenly transported to the past. Breathless nights, falling into a melody of bodies, and you pressed your knuckles against his chest, making Jungkook yelp and nearly fall over, catching himself with his hands before freezing up as you hovered over him, crossing your arm over his front and planting your palm on the bed under his armpit. He was raised to his elbows, looking up at you with those wide, dark brown eyes. Pink lips parted, the two silver rings gleaming at the right edge of his lower lip and that familiar mole underneath punctuating every surprise and every smile.
What was that phrase?
Live fast.
It had always been like that, though.
Die young.
Would you ever really age if you were always in the perpetual state of learning to love Jeon Jungkook?
You lowered your head and kissed him.
You were well aware that this was probably too much all at once and yet there was also so much time lost from the journey apart. Maybe necessary. But bad decisions could have good consequences. A kiss for the mole under his lips first, for old timeâs sake. Then his waiting mouth. You tilted your head and kissed him deeper this time, shivering at his familiar clean scent. Your other hand rose and ghosted his jaw, sliding your tongue into his mouth as he moaned. Fingers sliding into his soft hair, slowly thrusting your tongue in and out before he caught it with his teeth and gently sucked on it, running one hand over your waist, pressing his fingers into your side.
You backed off a little and flicked your tongue along his lower lip, exhaling into his mouth.
âRemember you used to be a freak?â
His jacket was hanging on your desk chair but he was still in his beige knit vest top.
His brows furrowed.
âIâm not a freak,â he insisted.
You curled your grip into his scalp and tugged. His head tipped back and his eyes slipped closed, shuddering, a mute whine in his throat, his own hold on your waist tightening, blocked by layers of your skirt and tucked-in shirt. You pulled harder and his lashes fluttered, his chin lifting and exposing his throat to your lips. Light kisses, barely there. You were pretty sure the words coming out of his mouth were a lie because his body was telling you the complete opposite.
He hadnât changed that much in that respect.
Heh.
You ran the tip of your tongue from between his collarbones, up his trembling neck, stopping at his chin to push his head back down and claim his gasping mouth with a fierce kiss.
There was no hesitation now.
You had been worried that somehow maybe your bodies wouldnât click. Maybe you wouldnât feel the same level of exhilaration or enjoyment. And it wasnât the same. Not at all. No, as you leaned in more, trying to force him to yield, and he refused, pulling your hand down from his hair and sliding it under the hem of his top, making you touch him instead, trapping you in the lip-lock, no, this was refined hunger meeting a refined flavor, and you dug your nails into his flexed abs, causing him to break the kiss and throw his head back, moaning to your ceiling.
You lifted your chin as he pushed your hand up higher.
Looked down at him as you sunk your nails into his flesh and dragged down, watching his expression flicker between pain and pleasure, his eyes turning glassy with lust, looking right back at you. Unashamed.
He tugged your hand back up again, between his tense pecs.
Your breathing shallowed.
You scratched him again, so hard that it left irritated pink lines onto his skin.
Jungkook whimpered, his black hair messy and fallen over his forehead.
I wanted everything about you.
You pulled back and seized the bottom of his top, dragging it up and over his head with his help, falling into his arms as he sat up, smacking your palms into his broad back. Taking that part of him too, irritated red lines all over, and kisses over his jaw, his naked chest against your clothed chest, his own hands clutching fistfuls of your velvet shirt, chasing after your lips.
I still do.
Your skirt had a silver zipper straight down the front center. You felt him grip the pull and check if it was working one. Smiled as he gasped, realizing it was. It even detached at the hem so all you had to do was shrug out of the suspenders. It fell to the floor with the heavy clink of metal from the clasps.
You swung a leg over him and straddled his lap.
Him shirtless, his torso covered in your violent marks.
Your hips colliding into the front of his jeans.
He groaned in your face.
âF-FuuuuckâŚâ
You gripped his studded belt with one hand and grinded against him. The first few buttons of your shirt were open and the slick backside of the velvet fabric caused the collar to slide off one of your shoulders, exposing your collarbone. His hands cupped your ass, sinking into the curve, and you ducked down to kiss him again, again, grabbing onto his bare shoulder for support.
His breathing hitched as your hand came close to his neck.
The impulse.
Hot and hard.
You positioned your hand around his neck and squeezed the arteries, choking him.
The sensation of power, the taste of his whine, his larger frame trembling under you, and Jungkook pressed your clothed heat into his trapped erection and succumbed to the ravenous nature of your kiss. It was the same and it was different. Layers of passion on passion. Intense and sending shivers from you to him. Back then, he was driven by inexperience. There was arousal in his fumbling and frustration, but none now when he reached for the buttons, flicking then apart with ease even as you choked him and gripped his belt. Your body faintly exposed under the folds of the lush fabric, but you didnât drop it, instead catching his lower lip with your teeth and sucking on it tightly.
Letting him go with a pop.
His eyes rolled back, that underlip mole quivering in anticipation.
Pause.
You pulled him towards you by his neck as his vision reoriented. Hazy and lust-drunk, but unequivocally trained on you, his grip digging into your thighs. Seconds filled with rattling breaths, pushing him to the edge, and the impulse rose again. Something you used to tell him. You hadnât really meant it back then. It was a display of fantasy then. For show. For the mood.
But things were different now.
âYou will always be mine,â you growled millimeters from Jungkookâs thin breath.
His half-lidded eyes shimmered. He couldnât respond, too lost in the headiness of lost air. But his body knew. The body has its own language and his agreed.
The corners of his open mouth lifted.
You let go of his neck and grasped handfuls of his hair, yanking his head back, his wanton moan pitching and falling, almost going limp in your hold as oxygen flooded back into his brain. You licked up his hot throat, closing your eyes, savoring the vibration of his cries and the desperate way he pinned your lower body to his, begging for release but too incoherent from the burst of overwhelming sensations to make them audible.
âAnd I will try to be everything you need until I run out of time,â you murmured to his raging pulse under your lips.
Maybe you would always struggle to define the word love.
Maybe you would never know.
But you didnât need to know to listen to what your body wanted.
I donât need to know love to be sure of loving you.
Your velvet shirt fell to the floor. You slid down between his legs. Worked together to undo his belt, glancing up at him and seeing your red marks on his chest. The rise and fall of his pants. Higher. Seeing him watching you as you pushed down his jeans. Closing in. Tracing the edge of your teeth with your tongue as you palmed him over his boxer briefs, cocking an eyebrow at his soft cry that he turned into a hiss under your direct attention.
âEmbarrassed?â you taunted.
Jungkook bit the side of his lip. âNo.â
You hooked your pinky finger over the waistband of those Calvin Kleinâs.
âYou sure?â
Desperation crawling into his gaze as your thumb rubbed against the hard shaft. Several seconds of stroking and you stretched out the waistband, rubbing a slow circle, molding the fabric to the swollen head of his cock, smiling as his cut v-line underneath was revealed.
âP-PleaseâŚâ he gasped above you.
Took your time to make eye contact again. You cocked your head to his crotch.
âGo on. Take it off then.â
His erection popped out. Dark red, rock-hard, begging for your mouth.
Unfortunately, Jungkook knew how you operated.
Flashes of the past and present. Heavy nights. Early mornings. Cold rooms with warm bodies. Your hands on his knees, spreading them apart and leaning in. Lips working the inside of his thighs. Kisses. Bites. Sucking. Rushing as much as moving slowly, breathing hotly onto his cock and watching it twitch at the heat. A flicker of your gaze and the needy anticipation written all over his face. The same wide-eyed stare from back then and, now, accented by piercings and tattoos running up his right arms, his muscles tense and rippling from trying to stay still under your unspoken control.
Your lips closed in around his girth and you shoved him down to the depths of your throat.
âA-Ah, fuuuuuuuckâŚâ
It was a familiar stretch of your muscles. He was at his hardest, giving you the freedom to glide up and down with little resistance, positioning your head at the correct angle to receive him as deep as possible. You pressed your lips inward as you rose to the tip, curving your tongue around. Up and over. Coating him with saliva and stimulating that thin skin, increasing the sensitivity with the attracting nature of water to water made more powerful by the rubbing of your tongue, sinking your nails into the insides of his thighs. Piling on sensation after sensation. Crisp with pain. Intense from pleasure. Tighter, licking all over, sliding him against the ridges of the roof of your mouth.
Jungkook panted your name, the syllables slipping into moans, losing himself to the wet bliss.
You almost didnât catch the fleeting words his gasp.
âYeah⌠itâs⌠s-supposed to feel l-like thisâŚâ
His hips tensed under you but you kept him down with the base of your palms, leaving him at the mercy of your pace. The familiar tingling at the back of your head, keeping the angle perfect and the depth steady, and he was right, yes, this was how it was supposed to feel â the blinding rush of adrenaline, desire, and connection all swirling into one indiscernible emotion. The kind of heat that was beyond raw passion, closer, the kind of satisfaction that was pleasure on many different levels, so close, the kind of sex that people could only dream about.
There.
A torn moan and Jungkookâs hips bucked into your face, sliding down your throat and spilling his thick, salty orgasm into the tight pocket. You locked your shoulders and stopped moving, feeling his cock shudder and throb. His cum oozing upward, and you swallowed, chest tight. He cried out above you but you held him down and swallowed again, inhaling much needed air, his strong taste coating your tongue, tactile and delicious.
Truly.
Delicious.
You had almost forgotten how attracted you had been to his pheromones, but clearly your drenched panties hadnât. You could even smell yourself from here. Also, your knees were killing you. Guess those years had an affect on your body after all, even if your brain had been subconsciously stuck on Jeon Jungkook.
The body always remembers.
To think you had said that just to be a smartass but Jungkook had unintentionally taken it seriously and it had turned out to be true all along.
A happy little accident.
You crawled up his body and he greeted you with kiss after fervent kiss. Somehow, he didnât seem to mind that you had only just swallowed his cum. Then again, Jungkook would never beat the freak allegations. You were the only one making those allegations but, hey, you did know him best, even if neither you nor him knew that.
He unhooked your bra.
You slipped out of it, letting the black lace cups flop into the pile of his jeans, belt, and underwear on the floor. You were straddling his lap, knees on the bed, and he pulled you in deeper, giving you a moment to adjust. Stared into your eyes fiercely, the captured universes in those dark brown orbs glimmering with determination.
âDonât look away,â he ordered. Not very sternly, but you smiled all the same, your arm around his shoulders, bare breasts and hard nipples right under his chin. Jungkook couldnât intimidate you for shit. It was the big peepers, probably.
âSure.â
He narrowed his eyes.
A stare down. Seconds saturated with anticipation. He raised his right hand, the two center fingers grouped together and the rest splayed out. Your smirk widened. Closer to you. Before he could say the words, open your mouth, your lips parted and you leaned in, swirling your tongue around his fingers, shifting your line of sight to admire the tattoos down his arm.
Jungkook sucked in a breath, stifling his awed moan.
Your eyes flickered back up to his face and you sucked on his fingers, directly looking at him. Even tilting your head and curving his fingertips down your throat, manipulating his movement with your tongue and your inner muscles. He shuddered, speechless at the arousing nature of this obscenity. You held yourself steady by splaying your fingers over his shoulder blades, letting him slowly thrust in and out of your mouth, the glossiness of your spit catching the low light.
âF-FuckâŚâ Jungkook breathed. âYouâre so sexy.â
You let your self-satisfied agreement show in the lowering of your lashes.
He grinned, noticing it right away, his expression pleased and frustrated all at once. Enjoyed the show for a few more moments and then pulled out. You held on until the very last second, releasing him with a wet, lewd pop. Loud in the silence of labored breathing and intense eye contact. His other hand at your waist nudged your ass. You lifted yourself up. His right hand slid between your legs, his two wet fingers grazing the edge of your dampened panties.
âYou smell so damn good,â he murmured, looking down to bear witness. âI want it smeared all over me.â
âI told you youâre a freak.â
âYeah, I am.â
You would have rolled your eyes at his now confession if it wasnât for him hooking the edge of your panties and bunching them to the side while at the same time closing the distance between your chest and mouth, and suddenly you were clutching his head with both hands, gasping, tangling your fingers in his hair as he sucked on your nipple and sunk his two fingers into your wet pussy.
Jungkook wouldnât give it to you if he thought you couldnât take it.
Your back arched reflexively, thrusting your chest into his face, and your hips rolled, thrusting his two wetted fingers into you. He got the hint, following your body rhythm, deep and rough, making the visceral pleasure spiral in your tightened core. Of course, you had sex after Jungkook. Shitty sex, subpar sex, better than average sex, mind-numbing sex. But it had always come at the price of your own expertise. It was never about how well they matched you, because they never did. They never had the time to. But not Jungkook.
His body remembered.
Your breathing deepened and he increased the pace, the fervor, switching sides of your chest and catching your hard nipple between his teeth. Pressing his tongue tip into it, rubbing forcefully and then sucking. Lips and then tongue, back and forth, thrusting up into you, and you gave in, locking your hips to take the wanted abuse, letting the rising orgasm take command. Blood roaring in your veins, heartbeat at your throat, hard, fast, intense, your tense thighs trembling, tipping your head back.
Closing your eyes.
Moaning his name.
You pulled on his hair, hard.
Jungkook whined under you but he didnât let go. Mouth too busy to speak. The declaration tumbled out of your open mouth.
âClose⌠fuck, Iâm gonna cumâŚâ
The constricted strain in your chest burst, and you threw you head back and sighed, low and wanton, prickling nerves racing up and across your back. Your inner walls pulsating. The heavy, sweet scent of your climax hit you first, soaking Jungkookâs hand, sticking to the insides of your thighs, and then uncontrollable shivers overtook your hips, gasping as his mouth left your chest, the abrupt loss of heat leaving your nipple cold. He moaned with you, his fingers buried into your spasming pussy, enjoying every second of feeling your orgasm, his thumb closing in to press down on your throbbing, slick clit.
You sucked in a sharp inhale.
He held it there, only adding pressure to the hyper sensitive nerves, letting your ride out your orgasm with your hands still gripping his head. You could feel the afterglow flutter in your lungs. Slow and deep shaking breaths.
Damn.
âYouâre still the best at fingering me,â you gasped.
You lowered your head and he chuckled faintly. Mischief sparkling in his dark brown eyes under messy black strands. âGood.â Sounded and looked very proud of himself.
Fuck, you waned to kiss him so bad.
So you did.
Again and again.
With Jungkook, it was easy. With Jungkook, there was never a question. You had just questioned it because you had thought it was the right thing to do. He had questioned it because he had been afraid. You hadnât understood it and neither had he. Nobody did. But that didnât matter, because as naturally as the wind blew, so did you and Jungkook tumble to the bed, him licking off your juices on his fingers and groaning, savoring your flavor. Hands all over each other, recalling all his erogenous zones and listening to his sounds again, your heartbeat racing at the pitch in his deep tone, the desperation in the call of your name.
You felt him cup your pussy and smear your juices all over his palm.
Glanced down and saw him grip his half-hard cock with his now-wet hand, moaning into your ear, heating your skin with his need.
You tilted your head more.
His lips found the pocket right under your earlobe.
You sat down on his raised thigh and rubbed yourself against his flexed muscle as he jacked himself off, sparks flying throughout your body, from his mouth attached to your skin and the hardness between your legs, watching him pleasure himself below you. The wet and slick quality of your previous orgasm increased the friction, and you tilted your hips forward a little more, angling the pressure to your clit, fuck, grasping the pillow under Jungkookâs head so tight that you felt your knuckles strain. Intense made more intense by his teeth. His tongue. His lips. Dancing around your ear, catching the curve, biting down, his lustful groan muffled in his throat.
Closer.
You knew.
He knew.
Jungkook snapped back and ground his teeth, whining in his chest, gripping his cock covered in your cum and his pre-cum beading at the purple-red tip. You also froze, clenching your jaw as the climb to release was cut off, sending your body into an intense array of emotions. Want. Greed. Voraciousness. The edging radiated throughout your veins, primal need pleading you to keep going, but every second wasted was another layer, threatening to amplify the next orgasm.
Which was exactly what you and Jungkook wanted.
He didnât have to ask you what your favorite position was. He liked them all, of course, for different reasons. Doggy for the view. One leg against his chest for something to hold onto while having some room to move. Regular missionary to hold your face and kiss you in between thrusts.
But.
The condoms were on your bedside table. It took him no time at all to rip one open and roll in down, groaning at the sight of you lifting your legs up to your chest, spreading your wet pussy and tight ass for him to see. His voice was low and hoarse from exertion, but he didnât seem to notice or mind, scooting himself forward to pin your thighs down with his chest, positioning himself right in front of your entrance.
âI fucking love that view,â he heatedly breathed out.
You grinned. âI know.â
Slowly.
Jungkook folded you in half, trapping your body between his chest and mattress and sank into you, locking eyes at the same time.
His favorite position was one and the same with yours.
âUgh, you feel so fucking good,â he swore, stopping when he was buried balls deep, his cock twitching inside you. You appreciated it.
âTake it slow,â you hummed, nonchalantly.
Well.
A muscle in his cheek twitched. His long bangs were all over his face but you couldnât miss his death stare. Jungkook mouthed, fuck you, and you mouthed back, you are, before lifting himself to grip your calves, pushing your thighs down onto your ribs. He slowly and deliberately thrust into you. Taunting you to balk under his stare, but you did not, rising to the occasion. Literally. Your ass raised off the mattress as he snapped his hips in and he groaned deeply, clenching his jaw as your pussy squeezed him all over.
He didnât look away, but he was warning you.
He slid out again. Then back in.
You did it again.
He growled and slammed his hard length back into you, dropping down. His palms smacked down onto the mattress and he bent over even more to hit that wicked depth, resulting in instant ecstasy radiating through your weighted lungs. You matched his ferocity. Your arms over your head and pushing back against the headboard, and he pounded you. Hard and intense and each collision knocking the wind out of your lungs, this is it, losing yourself to him, him losing himself to you, letting the carnal instinct take over. The rhythmic slap of hips to hips, wetness, drenched in your sex and his sweat. Every so often in the madness, you caught a glimpse of his gaze, fucked-out and craving more, and you saw your reflection in his eyes.
Mirroring him.
Your breath stilled in your throat.
The compounding sensations built and your body didnât stop reacting. Time slowed down and seemed fast all at once, this is love, something your tried so hard to understand but screw it, fuck understanding and fuck believing in it, reaching up and curling your hand around Jungkook head, forcing him down lower, his heavy breath washing over you, his eyes closing as you gripped his hair and tugged, breathlessly moaning with him at the sight of his visceral pleasure, the sound, the pace, the taste of his kiss still lingering on your lips.
For as long as he loved you, your heart would love him back, no matter what your thoughts said.
âNot yet,â you gasped. âIâm close.â
âFuck me, Iâm gonna burst,â he whined, digging his palms in, slamming his hips into you and you saw Jungkook bite the side of his lower lip, suddenly silent, focusing hard, his sweaty black hair sticking to his forehead. He always went quiet when he didnât want to cum too fast.
You wanted to torture him a little but the edging had brought you too close.
âAh, Jungkook!â
Your head snapped back into the pillows and his fell back, the wanton sound of your joined moans loud and shameless, echoing throughout your bedroom as you came hard, tensing your entire body and feeling your pussy clamp down onto his jerking cock pumping the condom full of cum. The lack of sufficient air, the whirlwind of release, the closeness and a drop his sweat on your tongue, and you shuddered, clinging onto him as wave after wave crashed into you, each throb pulsing between your legs reaching him as well, burning you both in each sharp pang of erotic euphoria.
You heard him exhale your name, erratic and rough.
Thudding heartbeat revibrating against the base of your neck.
âGetâŚâ
You felt his heat retreat, lowering your legs carefully.
âGet on your knees,â Jungkook panted.
You almost pointed out that this was your bed and not a hotel, these cum-covered sheets are going to have to be slept on because Iâm not doing laundry in the dead of night, but either your body moved faster than your brain or you didnât give a flying fuck. Or both. You turned and springboarded off your folded right arm, still on the searing high of adrenaline and the furious pulse between your legs. You heard him rip open another condom and gasp again at seeing your cheek pressed to the pillows, your chest against the bed, arching your back to raise your ass and spread open your holes for him to see.
âYouâre so fucking hot, fuck.â
You flexed your pussy. It made an audible, wet sound, startling you slightly. It didnât deter Jungkook the least. In fact, he grabbed your ass and dragged you down to him, groaning as he thrust into you again, immediately starting up from where he left off. You shoved your hands into the mattress and flicked your head, tossing back your hair and finally getting some air, breathless at his girth and strength.
Not that any of that stopped you from smacking your ass back into him.
âFuck!â
It was becoming a favorite word.
Probably your fault.
Well, fuck.
You steeled your core and dropped your shoulders, spreading your knees a little more. By the depth of his groan and the increased ferocity of his thrusts, you knew you had reached that perfect angle, sighing out in satisfaction as you felt the repeated pressure hitting you just right, right there, fuck, yes, Jungkook, closing your eyes to burn in the desire, higher and higher, deep and hard and chasing the same height at the same fierce pace, feeling your heartbeat slam strongly in your chest.
The swell.
The echo.
The unison.
The way the sparks raced up and down your spine. Breaths drifting out, rapid and shallow, noticing his strained grunts and muted moans once again, smiling, then focusing, squeezing him tighter, your shivering walls massaging his cock. Admired how perfectly he fit inside you, almost to the brink of discomfort, seamless, your pussy pulling him in hungrily with each snap of his hips. His fingers dug into your ass and you savored that too, all of it, not taking a single second for granted, letting yourself become overstimulated in the multiple sensations.
Jungkookâs gravelly voice choked out your name.
The frantic edge indicating he was almost done for.
Before you could respond, your head jerked back and your eyes rolled up, the high nearly alarming, depraved moan falling from your lips as the power of the orgasm seized your lungs, knocking the wind out of you. It was almost too much. You would have collapsed if it wasnât for Jungkookâs firm hold on you, gasping as he came. His hips twitched against your ass, pressed as deep into you as possible.
You moaned as his fingernails suddenly clawed down your lower back, heightening the peak of pleasure.
So good you couldnât speak.
There were no words.
You could barely comprehend it anyway. There was no describing how different this sex was from all the others. You had known it once, but it even better now, afterglow radiating off of you, each nerve brimming with ecstasy, letting out a gratified exhale as his body leaned against your back, his hands sliding up your stomach and to your chest, squeezing your breasts and lightly toying with your nipples.
His lips pressed to your upper back, feathering you with a meteor shower of kisses.
Your torso shook, trying to come down but suspended. You didnât resist him, clutching the rumpled sheets, sighing softly at the thrumming beat of heart-to-heart, his cock still inside you. Getting soft and probably against his will. He groaned, sounding annoyed.
âYou know thereâs always tomorrow, right?â you chuckled, inhaling and catching a whiff of his cologne on your bed.
The imprint of him already.
âI think itâs already tomorrow,â Jungkook grumbled, grunting as he held down the base of the condom and pulled out.
Well, he had always been here, at the back of your mind, never forgotten.
âIâve got more in me,â he vented sternly, although you suspected that wasnât really directed at you. You hadnât faced him yet but if you turned around you were be quite sure that you would be greeted by the pleasant and entertaining sight of Jungkook glaring at his limp, overworked dick. And yet. You didnât. Instead, you looked up. The window was within your line of sight.
The night sky up above, but the moon was right here, in the magic of this room.
âJungkook.â
âHuh?â
Right?
âYouâll stay the night, wonât you?â you breathed to the sky, wishing the dream to life to the stars you couldnât see.
Silence.
You turned your head, past the moon-shaped lamp across the room, past walls and everyday things, past the clothes scattered everywhere, and Jungkook was blinking at you, startled for a moment, big brown eyes wide, lips parted. Piercings. Tattoos.
Years on years.
âAnything for you,â he breathed back, staring straight into your eyes.
Still the same.
âReally. I will always stay by your side.â
He climbed back onto the bed. Over you. Skin to skin. Leaning down. Kiss after kiss, meaning more than raw passion, and you felt the wetness on your face. Drop after drop, fallen stars, and Jungkook brushed him away from his thumbs and his smile, you couldnât get rid of me even if you wanted to, noona, Iâm stuck on you, forever after, and you didnât want to cry, no more, your arms around his torso, pulling him closer, gripping his shoulders, shuddering at the foreignness of expressing emotion.
âAre weâŚ?â
Your voice was so small but he was so close, so close, his hands in your hair, forehead to forehead.
âAre we falling in love?â you whispered, staring into his eyes and finding the stars.
And now you could see that he, too, finally found the stars he had been looking for all this time.
Jungkook smiled.
âYes.â
Crisp and intense, this peppermint gum love where every day was the rush of falling in love more and more, forever after making memories so this feeling could never fade away.

Kanghyun wanted to make a surprise visit to your house. it had been quite some time since the two of you had spent time together.
Kanghyun asked your mom for permission to go to you, who was in your room, still oblivious about the guest.
Kanghyun approached your slightly ajar door quietly to surprise you.
but he was the one who got the chills when he heard a familiar guitar sound.
Kanghyun quickly knocked on your door before inviting himself in .
"was that Regulus?".
you gasped at the sudden voice and out of reflex , you tried hiding your guitar behind your back, which was a fail because it was bigger than you.
you flashed an embarrassed smile as you scanned Kanghyun's new look.
when you didn't answer his question, Kanghyun took a seat beside you and took your guitar gently. "were you learning how to play Regulus?".
he asked again as he strummed the instrument, making a graceful sound.
you sighed and nodded.
"yeah, the song that you worked so hard on is finally a year old now and i thought i wanted to learn it as a gift...". you replied shyly.
Kanghyun gave you an assuring smile and passed back the guitar before patting your head gently. "well you know what? i think this will be the best gift i could ever receive. thank you for loving Regulus.".
you giggled at his cheesy words before focusing back on your practice and asking the guitarist himself for tips.
happy 1 year anni Queen Regulus đ

Vellichor - A strange wistfulness of used bookstores that are somehow infused with the passage of time.
The smell of aged books hit Kanghyunâs nose when he opened the door to the bookstore. He walked through the aisles, running his finger along the spine. He picked up a book in particular, feeling the added weight in his hands. He opened the book, touching the almost rough pages. He leaned in, smelling the yellowed pages. The scent of age. Kanghyun found a patched couch and sat down, opening the old book and reading until the closing hours.

little onewe boyfriend scenarios đŚ
ps : harin's is v long teehee
đ§ hyungu :
i can see him reading a book aloud to u and pausing when he notices you're not replying to the main character's dumb decisions anymore. so he peaks down and sees u asleep on his chest and a soft smile grows on his face, he chuckles and rubs ur back until he falls asleep as well with u in his arms đ
đ° giwook :
after a hard day u collapse into his arms on the couch, he puts a lil pout on his lips and brushes the hair out your face, lifts your chin a bit to look into ur eyes and asks u what happened. while u tell him about it, he'd stroke ur hair and give u little encouraging smooches across ur face every time u start speaking quieter or get choked up. he'd just be so incredibly loving đ
đ§ dongmyeong :
he'd squish ur cheeks together and after gushing for a bit bc how cute u look would cup ur face with his warm hands and litter tiny smooches all around ur face, so everytime u go to a mirror, no matter where u look on yourself, he'd have kissed u there and u'd always be reminded of how much he loves u đ
đŞ yonghoon :
even though he could just text u, yonghoon thinks it's romantic to send u little heartfelt love letters, and it absolutely is. if he ordered you fruit tea he'd stick a lil note on it saying something like "I remembered your order! the peach is so sweet, it reminds me of you <3" or a lyric from one of his songs that reminds him of u. eg: "when darkness surrounds you, can i wrap you in my arms?" from universe đ
đŠ harin :
i can see u guys on a amusement park date and he'd let u drag him wherever u wanted, if you saw a cute plushie at a stall he would not stop until he won the game and got it for u. if u were a bit scared of heights, on the ferris wheel, he'd tell u dumb stories from when he was younger to make u laugh, and his arm would never leave from around ur shoulder, regardless if u were scared or not. also he'd give u his jacket on the way home, even if u weren't cold, just to see how oversized and adorbs it looks on u :( and when he drops u off at ur place, you'd take it off to give it back but he'd just tutt at you, slip it back on ur shoulders and say "keep it for a bit, it looks cute on you" and give u a sweet goodbye kiss and drive off leaving you screaming so loud on the inside. Also the jacket would smell like him and AAAAAAAA JU HARIN I HAVE NO WORDS đđđ

Yonghoon
Something about today you knew today was the day
The longer you two where together the more you realized how much this man means to you
The way Yonghoon takes care of you is like a love so pure and foreign
The way he'd get you your favorite food even if you didn't ask for it
How he'd stay by your side for any tough moments
When you'd be stressed how he'd sing you a lullaby to calm your nerves
Everything he does for you you try your best to reciprocate back
And as you took the time to be grateful of this name and all his fondness of you
You knew it was the time
It was a peaceful moment between the two of you in comfortable silence together
You went to grab his attention and once you saw his eyes on you that's when you said it
You could see the way his heart melted
The grin on his face you could tell you made him feel on top of the world
Such simple words had his heart just flying
You smiled at him bashfully
He was so starstruck he hadn't even realized he hadn't said it back yet
Suspect him to take your hands and rub the back of them with his thumb
The sweetest I love you you've ever heard
You could feel the genuine happiness you gave him as he said each word
Complete puppy love from this man he'll be on cloud 9 the rest of the day

â pairing: kang hyunggu x reader

â synopsis: youâre an astronomy major and kanghyun loves the stars (and you)
â song playing: regulus by onewe
â disclaimer: this is a work of fiction, made only for entertainment purposes and in no way or form should be taken seriously
â if you like my writing, please consider donating to my kofi!
The first time you ran into Kanghyun, it was a complete act of destiny. In fact, if you had waited even 5 more minutes to decide to head to the roof of the science building, you would have missed him. Alas, it seemed like the red strings of fate had other plans for the two of you.
You had forced yourself out of bed at what felt like an ungodly hour (it was only 9:30 pm) and made your way to the rooftops with your backpack and your small telescope. It was late September, which meant that you had bundled yourself up in the warmest jacket you could find, even if said jacket had sleeves that went far past your fingertips.
As you burst through the double doors that would take you onto the roof, you were surprised to find that there was somebody else already up here. He was sitting on a blanket, notebook, and pencil in hand as he bobbed his head along with a silent melody. Moving closer, you noticed that he was wearing earbuds, just slightly obscured by his brown hair.Â
He didnât notice as you moved closer until you placed yourself on the ground a few feet from him. The concrete was cold, making you shiver as you swung your backpack off of your shoulder and onto the ground. You could feel the eyes of the boy on you as you began setting up your telescope and pulled out your tablet to begin taking notes.
There were a few minutes of silence, the only sounds filling the roof were those of a pencil scratching on paper, a telescope shifting its position, and the soft ambiance of nature and a college campus. It wasnât until you shivered once again under the breeze that the man finally spoke up.
âWould you like to sit on my blanket? I canât help but notice that youâre shivering and I can only imagine how uncomfortable and cold the concrete must be,â his voice was soft, and for a moment you thought that you had imagined it. But when you looked up and saw his soft brown eyes looking at you questioningly through the darkness, you realized that you had indeed heard him and that he was absolutely talking to you.
âOh, thank you,â you said, before sliding your set up over and placing yourself lightly on the flannel blanket that was sprawled out. You sent him a small smile before you went back to looking into the telescope. The stars you were supposed to be looking for were a bit trickier to find than you were expecting, and you groaned as you looked back at your tablet, searching for where the stars were supposed to be tonight.
âWhat are you looking for tonight?â The boy asked, taking one of his earbuds out as he shifted to get a look at your tablet. You scooched it a little closer to him, showing him the list of stars that you were supposed to be observing and the one you were trying to find: Regulus.
The boy smiled happily to himself as he read the words, before looking at your telescope as if waiting for permission. You gave a nod, scooting over so he could come a bit closer and peer into the lens. You could smell a soft scent of cologne coming off of him, and you felt yourself smile as you breathed it in, the scent relaxing your muscles as he fidgeted with the position of the telescope. Finally, he pulled away, grinning.
âThere. That should be it.â You raised an eyebrow, before looking into the lens and seeing the brightly shining orb which represented Regulus. You looked at him, your eyes sparkling impossibly through the dark.
âThank you so much. Are you an astronomy major too?â You asked. He shook his head, chuckling as he moved back to where he had been sitting previously.Â
âNo, Iâm actually a music major. I just really love the stars. Itâs a special interest, I guess you could call it. My name is Kanghyun.â He held out his hand and you took it, reveling in the softness of his palm and the blistered tips of his fingers.Â
âMy name is Y/N. If youâre not an astronomy major, what brings you to the roof on such a cold night?â you asked. Kanghyun motioned down to the notebook that was sitting in his lap, giving you a small smile.
âIâm actually writing a song for my band right now. The stars are my biggest inspiration, so I come up here to write,â he explained. Your eyes widened slightly in excitement at his words.
âThatâs really cool! Has your band played around campus? Maybe Iâve heard you guys!â you asked. Kanghyun smiled as he shook his head.
âWe havenât played on campus yet, but we have played a few times at the bar downtown. You should definitely come sometime, the more the merrier,â Kanghyun said, thankful for the night sky that covered the blush resting on his cheeks. You nodded enthusiastically, before turning back to your telescope to begin working on your project. Kanghyun sat beside you, humming melodies and jotting down notes and lyrics. It was a peaceful atmosphere, one that surprised both of you considering you were practically strangers.
Once the moon was high in the sky and the loud noises of the campus below began to dwindle, you and Kanghyun bid goodbye to one another, heading to your respective dorms with a hazy and fuzzy mind.
The second time you met Kanghyun, was on purpose. Your friend, Goeun, had revealed to you that she often saw Kanghyun head to the cafe after their music class. Normally, you wouldnât have done anything with that info, but you wanted to get Kanghyunâs thoughts on your paper so far, considering he seemed to like the stars.
So you headed to the cafe on campus and, sure enough, found Kanghyun sitting at a table with his notebook out and headphones in. You tapped him lightly on the shoulder, trying your best to not startle him, before smiling and sitting down across from him.
âHi! Sorry for bothering you, but I wanted to know if you could read my essay so far? I have to turn it in at the end of the week and I really need a proofreader,â you explained, trying to calm your beating heart before it came right out of your chest,
âOh, of course!â Kanghyun said, a small smile slipping onto his face as you let out a relieved sigh and slid your laptop over to him so he could read your paper. You watched with fascination as Kanghyun read the lines on your laptop, making you smile when you noticed how his eyebrows furrowed slightly in concentration and he began to bite his lip a little.
Finally, his head shot up and he gave you an approving smile.
âItâs really good, Y/N. I noted some grammatical stuff and where I think the words could flow a little better, but overall, I think that it gets your point across well,â Kanghyun advised. You nodded, listening intently to his notes as he pointed things out to you, making notes on what to fix and what to revise.
You had barely noticed that an hour had gone by until Kanghyunâs phone began to ring. He looked at the caller ID, then the time, before practically jumping out of his chair.
âOh my gosh, Iâm gonna be let to practice. I have to go, Iâm so sorry!â Kanghyun explained, rushing to gather his things. You stood up as well, reaching out to take his arm and pause him for a moment. He looked at your hand, then at you, with a look of confusion.
âCan I have your number? In case I need more advice or something?â you asked, avoiding contact as you held your phone out cautiously with the other hand. Kanghyun looked at you, before smiling warmly and nodding. He typed away his phone number, before handing the device back to you and waving a rushed goodbye.
You stood there for a moment, almost in shock that you had actually succeeded in getting the cute music majors number, before shaking yourself out of it and heading back to your own dorm.
The third time you met Kanghyun, it was at the bar in town that he had told you his band played at. You had been texting each other for weeks after you had met at the cafe and finally, Kanghyun had told you (after countless pestering from you) that he and his band were going to be playing and that you should come to watch.
So there you stood amongst the fairly large crowd, a drink in your hand as you waited for the concert to start. A few people around you took to chatting and you gladly joined, before pausing once you heard the crowd begin to lull as the lights on the stage flicker on.
Cheers suddenly erupted from all around as 5 boys walked on stage, the only one you recognized being Kanghyun as he walked to the right side of the stage to get his guitar set up and plugged in. He looked so much different than the Kanghyun you were used to, with his hair all rustled up, his black button-up showing a bit of his chest as a metal chain rested around his neck.
You felt your cheeks heat up as Kanghyun scanned the crowd, making eye contact with you, before smiling gently at you. The singer, a tall boy with brown hair that you think was Yonghoon, was speaking but you were too busy staring in awe at Kanghyun.
As they began the concert, playing a song that you remember being titled Aurora, you couldnât take your eyes off of the music major boy that was in front of you. He was completely in his element, the shy and introverted persona melting away to reveal a cocky and confident guitarist. His golden skin shined in the light and he would smirk occasionally as he played, taking the breath straight from your lungs.
They played a few more songs, each one more breathtaking than last when finally Kanghyun approached his own microphone with a small smile. He took a moment to catch his breath, basking in the glow and happiness that filled the stage of the bar.
âThis next song is something Iâve been working on for a while. It was inspired by a girl that I met recently and I didnât want to play it until she could be here to listen to it. I hope that she likes it as much as I like her. Hereâs Regulus,â Kanghyun said, his eyes lingering on you. You felt yourself freeze as you tried to comprehend what Kanghyun had just said, but your thoughts were quickly interrupted as the song began.
Your eyes were glued to Kanghyun as the simple melody began, the words ringing clear in your ears as you finally began to piece together that the song was about you.Â
Kanghyun had written a song about you.
When the song was finally over, you were beaming. The crowd was going crazy but you were just smiling like an idiot at Kanghyun as the group said their goodbyes and headed off stage. You weaved through the crowd before stumbling upon the group behind the stage, packing away their equipment.
âY/N?â You looked up as your name was said, your eyes locking with Kanghyun who had stood up from his guitar case, eyebrows furrowed. You looked at him, before rushing forward and pressing your lips to his.
You felt him mumble in surprise, but you didnât let go as you wrapped your arms around his neck, smiling against his lips when he weaved his hands around your waist to pull you closer.
As you pulled away, eyes sparkling from how happy you were, Kanghyun smiled at you.
âI take it you like the song?â You rolled your eyes, before pulling him back into a kiss. Kanghyun kissed you back, ignoring the way his bandmates whistled and clapped from around him. Right now, in his universe, it was only him and you; his Regulus.

well done !! you just made him the happiest man a man could be ~ have fun trying to erase that smile from his face because itâs not going anywhere for a week tops. our amazing leader loves attention and little shows of affection like this, he thrives on it. for him, itâs like a sign everything in the relationship is going well and that you still love him and think about him lots. I think yonghoon is the type to worry about this stuff so a surprise kiss would reassure him probably more than words could ever do. he would be sitting at his desk late at night brainstorming lyrics and tapping his pens to form melodies when you sneak up behind him and place a big fat smooch on the side of his cheek. yonghoon would jump in surprise because he thought you wouldnât be home for a while but then immediately soften when the scent of your favourite fragrance finally reached him. he leaned back in his chair, tilting his head up to reach your eyes with the cutest eye smile youâve ever seen. âsomeone must have missed me?â he said we a jokingly sweet tone while staring up into your eyes swearing he could see stars. yonghoon lives for domesticity like this, heâs so glad that you feel comfortable enough to just go up and do that. trust him to randomly go up to you no matter the situation and give you quick pecks and smooches (if he didn't already do it) before you guys fall into a calm conversation about your days, he would tap his neck and make kissy noises hoping you would get the point and do it again.
âhow was your day darling? i didnât hear you come in. just give me five minutes and iâll be all yours for the night, wait before that... would you mind if you gave me another kiss?â

oh, oh, OH !! a surprise kiss will turn harin into the shyest tiger bub you could imagine. it would 100% catch him off guard and throw him off track from whatever task he was attempting. his cheeks would turn the brightest of red when you came up behind him when he was washing the dishes after dinner and placed kisses down his neck then the exposed skin on his back. everyone knows harin is so soft and sweet but for you, the love of his life? i mean it when i say he will do everything and anything for you. he is an absolute goner. and when you nuzzled your head deeper into him, your cheek pressing against his back he just sighed blissfully, slowly coming to terms with how relentlessly lucky he got, meeting and dating you. he would make sure to finish the dishes as quickly as possible (maybe dropping one of them in excitement oops). once free from the chore, this man ain't leaving you alone for the rest of the day, good luck trying to detach him from your side. harin is just an over-grown human koala. he would attack you with kisses all over making you squeal because it tickles! and because of that, he would start laughing and harin's laughter can bring world peace. harin is just filled with so much love and adoration for you and this just confirms you love him all the same ~
"what was that for lovely? did i do anything special to deserve this special attention?" harin mused and dried his hands so he could wrap his arms around your waist.
"nothing in particular just felt right..."
"that must make me a very lucky man doesn't it, i don't deserve you bub don't i?"

we all know how much of a bookworm hyungu is, so it wouldn't be surprising when you catch him curled up in bed early with one of his current reads. hyungu doesn't flinch when he feels a dip in the mattress nor does he when he feels your hot breathe fall from his cheek to below his white tank top. thinking you just want to cuddle he tells you to let him finish the chapter, his eyes not wavering from the book. what he didn't expect was for you to place a light peck on the skin underneath his eye then moved to ghost his lips before diving in and giving him a short but passionate kiss. just after you tell him you were going to the kitchen for snacks and leaving him on the bed alone with heart going 150mph. this would leave hyungu a malfunctioning and blubbering mess as you rendered him speechless. one part of him felt like he hadn't been giving you enough attention or there was something on your mind that you weren't telling him. or did he maybe do something special that he wasn't aware of? were you in a really good mood, why? all these questions would plague him until you entered the room again and he asked if you were okay in a very serious voice. "you can tell me anything you know..." he said taking your hand in his and rubbing your palm. you were extremely confused at this gesture and said you were feeling fine. "then what was that kiss about?" he questioned at this point as confused as you. "no reason, just loved you and missed you." such a cheesy shy grin would adorn his features, and he would giggle not looking down at your hands, too flustered to face you upfront. warmth rose throughout his chest as he feels that had just struck him clean through the heart. with you hyungu had never felt so loved and appreciated. honestly, you were the best thing to happen to him. long after you had fallen asleep nestled into his side, hyungu made mental notes on little ways to express his infinite love and adoration for you, and you show that all though he may not show it, he's just as enamoured with you as you are with him.
"my love is full of surprises, aren't they? my days would be so much darker without you y/n-ah."
| s o n . d o n g m y e o n g
you'd try to catch him off guard with a kiss? you donât know the war you have just started with this boy... what just started with a quick peck on the side of his cheek while he was getting ready for the day turn into a full-blown kissing war that seemed to get more intense and passionate with each sneaky kiss. he relished in catching you by surprise and in comprising moments. hell you could be calling your mum and bam! wild son dongmyeong on your lips. kissing is dongmyeong primary way of showing his affection (apart from words ofc) so a little kissing war is right up his alley. from watching tv, to tending to household chores, on the way out the door and when you were snuggling into bed ready for the night, were all perfect opportunities to get each other back for each kiss and the one after that and the one after that and- (you can see where this is going, you two might just be attached at the lips at this point). even when he had to go for band practice at random points during the session heâd send you heart emojis and sweet texts saying how much he missed you (and your lips). the boy is, was and forever will be lovestruck for you, i can not stress this enough!! surprises, in general, affirm that fact that you think about him a lot and obviously care a lot as well. these are two things i think dongmyeong really values in a relationship. the day would probably end out with a cute little make-out session after both of you are done with the day's activities. before you drift off dongmyeong would whisper âi won~â in your ear before trying to find sleep himself. he didnât just mean winning the war of kisses, he also meant winning in life because he had the best person on planet earth all for himself.
âthatâs 13 to me and 11 to you sunshine !! hmm seems like someone has some catching up to do⌠oh! and you also have something on your lips right there-â
*proceeds to kiss you for a bit longer than usual leaving you absolutely breathless*
âi think that makes it 14 to 11.â
| l e e . g i w o o k
shy and flustered hamster to the power of two !! as the maknae who normally receives lots of skinship from his hyungs youâd think a surprise kiss wouldnât affect him that much. however, when it comes to you throw that idea out of the window, bubs would be a stuttering cute mess, almost confused and dazed-like, like hyungu. when you crept up on his while he was changing the broken strings on his base he felt your presence behind him, but being used to this sort of closeness he didnât mind it. but when you stooped down to his level and quickly swooped in for a sweet kiss right on his lips his eyes would immediately dart up and his pupils would dilate into moons. his mouth would be an o-shape as he stared up at you before turning beet red. if it was around other people he would probably feign being slightly annoyed but deep deep down he loves it more than youâll ever know. it would be a quiet reassurance that youâre still there and love him as always. but when youâre alone thereâs no doubt in the fact heâll definitely ask you to kiss him again. your spontaneity gives him something to look forward to when has time to spend with you. a reminder that his and your youthful banter is something to be love and treasured.
"ah baby... not here please, see harin hyung is laughing at me now. you're cute but not THAT cute, and don't take that in the wrong way. you can give me loads of kisses when i'm done with this okay?"
(hope you enjoyed sorry again the wait was so long !!)

[⍠seventeen - rock with you]
⧠kanghyun (onewe) // fluff
Youâll laugh at him for being stuck in his head again, Hyungu knows. He knows the fond smile youâll wear, and itâs not helping his effort to get out of his daydream. He watches you talk with his friends, watches you belong with them, and he knows he made it. There is no bigger happiness than this; he isnât sure about many things, but this he knows for certain. Just like he knows heâd go to the end of the Earth with you. You gravitate toward him naturally - and there it is, the smile when you shake his shoulder and he finally looks up and realizes you came to wake him. Heâs shy, but he can only smile when you kiss him. There are many things Hyungu isnât, but for you he thinks heâd become anything you wanted. You sit down next to him and his hand moves despite himself to hold yours, and you shine brighter than the sun when you lean into his side and effortlessly resume the conversation you were having with one of the guys. He knows heâll lucky. And he hopes his luck wonât run out, heâll give it his all that it doesnât.

Itâs impossible to fall in love when youâre already in love. And Jeon Jungkook was in love. Helplessly. But what could he do? Time passed. The world became tasteless to his eyes. âArenât you afraid that Iâll forget you?â
Those last words rang in his head, accompanied by her smile.
âYour mind might forget me, but the body always remembers.â
He wanted her to be wrong. But, of course, she wasnât. Life wasnât so kind. Life wasnât so kind to give him a dramatic ending. Rather, it was a calm one of slow decay where he gradually learned to not miss her anymore. No ill feelings. Just helplessness. He had wanted her to be his morning, his afternoon, his night. She didnât. He had been younger then. He had thought he could change what was already written.
She had done the right thing, actually.
Years past. The memories became a blur with everything else. Everyone else â between nights and bodies and the feeling of not quite right. Searching but not knowing what he was looking for so he cut them off just as he had been cut off. It hurt, of course, but not as much as it would have if he had let it drag on. Maybe that was what he had learned from that time.
He forgot to miss her.
But he still thought of her and wondered where she was now.
Tattoos, piercings, and countless hours at the gym later. Running. Life an endless loop despite the differences. Nowadays, he was making an effort to hang out with his friends more, not just for birthdays or online games, but socializing at in-person events that he still wasnât very good at. Becoming older meant drifting apart since they didnât have those common places to mingle in anymore, so it was important to put in the effort. If he wanted to improve in talking to people more casually, well, he should at least put himself in those opportunities, right?
Right.
Running.
Always running.
Sometimes, when he was in the dark surrounded by people and with just the right amount of alcohol in his system, he missed her terribly, but he couldnât remember what standing next to her was even like.
Other times, he completely forgot she used to like this type of tea or that kind of snack. These details faded into the background, only to return to him in disorienting dreams and half-realities.
And most of the time, he forgot.
In between hands and lips and legs, he felt the rush. The exhilaration. Lust. He could make magic in the bedroom. Wasnât that what it was all about? Wasnât it all about the chase between two? Wasnât love about strangers becoming forever-afters? Wasnât it? He didnât know anything about that when he was younger. Right. How could that be love?
Maybe.
Maybe he just forgot.
The spark always died so fast. It must have been not quite right.
She must have forgotten him too, by now.
When Jeon Jungkook saw her again, he hadnât expected it at all.
It was at a nightclub concert. Loud and obnoxious and full of infectious energy. A friend of his was a singer of the band that was going onstage next. Currently, there was alternative rock band vibing with the crowd, singing songs that no one knew but spoke to feelings everyone understood. Breakup lyrics to sweetheart melodies. He was enjoying himself, but not paying much attention. In a split second, he had whipped his head around because one of his friends was playfully flicking the back of his hair, being an idiot, and then he saw her at the edge of the stage. Right there. He almost didnât think it was her at first, but his eyes recognized that face right away, even amidst the chocolate smokey eye and cherry lip stain. He almost looked away, not wanting to stare at a now-stranger, but his body froze when she smiled, remembering the way his heart fluttered when those past-lover-now-strangerâs eyes sparkled with mischief when she smiled.
That couldnât have been love, right?
He couldnât remember.
Was she more beautiful than before or had helplessness desaturated his memory?
She was cheerfully speaking to someone. A young man who had cerulean hair. His undercut was dyed a gradient purple. Taller than her, with broad shoulders. Black t-shirt and tight jeans showing off a built body. He lingered near her the same way a cat stayed by its owner. She shook her head at him and said something. The man chuckled despite a demeanor full of nervousness. She handed him his purple electric guitar and pushed him, motioning him to interact with the band standing offstage. Oh, that was right. His singer friend had mentioned that their actual guitarist was out taking care of his grandmother. They had to call someone to fill in on short notice.
It was clear, by the instrument, that this was the fill in.
The young man trotted over to the band and introduced himself. He was meant with open arms and gracious bows that left him flustered and shaking his head.
Jeon Jungkook looked away, not wanting her to see him.
Would she know it was him?
He glanced at her again during the break for the band change. She was standing at the side, not too close to the wall but not too far. Could be noticed right away, because she was not drinking and because she was alone. Simply standing there. Almost regal even in a tight white crop top and hip-hugging black trousers. The thick black strap of her sling bag had a large plush keychain dangling by her waist. A tuxedo cat with a tangerine on its head. She didnât seem bothered to be alone with no one to speak to. She also held onto a big, thick, black leather jacket. Folded and tucked in her arms. Could be hers.
Could also not be.
She was smiling in the direction of the substitute guitarist. Jungkook caught a shared gaze between them. She gave the man a thumbs up. He returned the smile, albeit awkwardly. A wordless exchange. Two people who knew each other very well. The lights dimmed. An announcement was made and cheers erupted around him.
But Jungkook was in the dark, surrounded by people, with not enough alcohol in his system to place the emotion he was feeling right now.
He looked to the stage as the spotlights returned to the stage, lighting up the band and his friend, but his mind held onto the image he had just now seen. Something about her makeup, with the striking eyeliner and black-cherry tinted lips. His own lips tingled, remembering the taste of a kiss from years ago.
A bright and refreshing flavor, so strong that it had seemed to last for hours after.
He was not self-centered or bitter enough to call her an ex-girlfriend. It had been a crisp and intense connection but, in retrospect, the time had been short. Fast and in a rush. The kind of love that made his skin prickle and his heart race. There had been no way to know how long it would last. There had been no comparison to realize that that love could be as fleeting as it was powerful.
A peppermint gum love.
Ah, what was he going on like this for? Maybe she didnât want to be bothered. Maybe she wouldnât want to see a ghost of her past. Maybe she didnât even remember him. Jungkook knew he looked very different now. Back then, he had been a lot more worried about being presentable to everyone. Now, he was old enough to know he couldnât and didnât have to please everyone. He could wear loose clothes even if he worked out to look toned the way he wanted. He could get those lip piercings even if people told him eight ear piercings was already too many and adding two more on the right side of his lower lip was overdoing it. He could get a sleeve of colorfully dark tattoos and maybe consider getting more if he really wanted, even if some people found it tacky or not to their taste.
Well.
As long as he had the money for it, anyway.
He tried to discern how she was looking at the young man playing guitar, but Jungkook couldnât figure out if it was the same expression that she had given him all those years before. He couldnât remember.
His mind couldnât remember.
But.
There was an interlude mid-act. He had made up his mind. He excused himself from his friends, mumbling the excuse of the bathroom. It was nerve-wracking to cut himself away from that safety. He didnât have to do this. There was no ill feeling.
Just helplessness.
He moved through the crowd, winding between the people. Right there. There was so much noise. Conversations. Laughter. Drunken bickering. But all he could hear was silence. Bodies pushed up against him, bumping into him by accident, mumbling out apologies. But all he could feel was the suggestion of a touch, the faded peppermint gum love, grasping for a memory that he couldnât seem to recall.
His finger tapped her shoulder.
He just wanted to know something.
âDo you still feel the same as you did back then?â
After the hey, how have you been, after the look of recognition and half-amused smile and the flutter of his heart, after the small talk of where are you now, he asked her the question. Those things were only the precursor. The filler and fluff. The pretense to the question that had been on his mind for a long, long time now.
âAbout what?â she asked, tilting her head curiously.
âI donât know if you rememberâŚâ He didnât either, actually. Remember her original words. âBut you said that you didnât think you could ever understand love. You said something like that to me a long time ago and I wonder⌠I wonder if that feeling has changed.â
He knew it was a strange question and yet.
He justâŚ
Needed to know.
The shadows in her eyes became darker, impenetrable. âSounds like something Iâve said. But, are you asking me because you think that feeling should have changed?â
He shook his head quickly. âNo.â Looked at her head-on, unsure if this bravery was from alcohol or the question itself that had been lingering in his mind for so long. âI remembered what you said after all this time becauseâŚâ
Hot and heavy, but ultimately forgettable nights.
Cold and bright.
Unable to last and, yet, lasted.
âBecause I think now I am beginning to understand what you meant.â
There was a lot of noise around them, but he barely noticed. There was so much light, so many people around them, but this moment was a spotlight between him and the past cold brightness. The shadows in her eyes softened, no longer bristling thorns, fading into a dark forest of overlapping leaves. He couldnât know, but he felt those eyes were different now. Darker. More decisive. And yet, in some ways she hadnât changed at all. One of the things that he had always liked about her back then was that she always answered him seriously and wisely even if the question seemed out of the blue.
They always had an inexplicable closeness, even as strangers.
She was even more beautiful and more attractive than he remembered though.
âI lied,â she admitted with a half-smile. Was that a sparkle of mischief in her irises or was he seeing things? âI remember what I said to you. It had upset you a lot, I remember, when I said I didnât understand love. You cried. It must have hurt you, but I couldnât understand why back then. Back then, I said I didnât understand love because I both didnât want to learn and couldnât feel it. Only the latter is true now. Or, rather, I donât think I feel the same things that other people feel when they are with the people they love. But why do you say youâre beginning to understand that I meant?â
His body remembered the feeling of her hand on his shoulder. Now, their relations werenât close enough for her to touch him. He didnât remember crying but he wasnât surprised to be told that he did. When he was younger, he had been a bit of a crybaby. Just because he didnât recall didnât mean it didnât happen.
But.
His heart could still feel that deep scratch of those familiar words, even now.
âWhen I met you back then⌠I thought I knew everything about love. Love was for good people. I wanted to be a good person so I could be loved. All I had to do was become the person that people wanted to love. But then I realized I wasnât doing the things I wanted to do, only what was expected of me. Then you told me you didnât understand love and I, someone who wanted to be loved by you, realized I had nothing to fall back on because I was only made of othersâ expectations and ideals.â
He shook his head. He did remember crying after they parted. He remembered trying to make the sadness go away. He remembered nights in beds and stumbling home to cry in the shower, feeling disconnected in the physical connection. He remembered nights alone, empty bottles and holding a shot glass of tears, feeling unable to speak about this to anyone. Lost without knowing how to be found. Doing things based on impulse because only impulses were truly his and not poisoned by the opinions of others. Laughing at the search of happiness. Above all, he had been afraid. He had been afraid to give voice to his worries because then maybe they would gain power and overtake him.
But then he remembered the person who didnât understand love.
There was such a person that existed out there.
He wondered how she was now.
âI wanted to tell youâŚâ
And now he knew.
âI wanted to tell you I understand now. Or⌠donât. Um.â
She smiled at him.
It was not the same way as she looked at the guitarist.
âHuh, youâve become so mature and grown up. Well, welcome to the smoke-and-mirrors of adulthood, Jeon Jungkook,â she chuckled teasingly, shaking her head. âI scarred you that bad, eh?â
âNo, I didnât meanââ
She raised a hand to stop him, waving away his apology. âNo, itâs okay. Iâm surprised you still remember me. And donât hate me. A lot of them hate me.â
Your mind might forget me, but the body always remembers.
His body did remember.
âA lot of them?â he echoed, a muscle in his jaw tightening.
The faintest tick of her eyebrow. âYou gonna tell me you have all these tattoos and piercings and donât get laid?â
His heart dropped. âYou donât like them?â He blurted that a little too fast.
She laughed. âMy opinion of them doesnât really matter.â
âYes, it does,â was his quick reply.
She paused. The shadows in her eyes swirled. He tried to discern their meaning as he stared into those dark irises but the shadows were all evasive and clever, flitting away from him playfully. When she spoke again, there was a sternness to her tone. Not scolding him. Just getting her point across.
âAnswer the question of whether or not you get laid.â
Hot and heavy nights that meant nothing compared to the cold and bright scratch on his heart.
âIâŚâ
The tips of his ears suddenly burned but maybe it was the alcohol.
âI do. But I havenât remembered or been bothered to remember a single thing theyâve said to me,â Jungkook heard himself say and wondered where that bravery came from.
She didnât say anything for a moment.
Then she smiled in the way that made him shiver.
âHyungu is gonna be pissed,â she laughed as the sound of a guitar riff pierced the air.
Oh, shit.
The spotlight faded.
Everything rushed back. Sound, color, light. It suddenly became very clear that he was too far and too long gone from his friends to go back now and face them. Jungkook spun around, seeing that the crowd had packed up tightly again. To his dismay, he had no idea where his friends were. They were no longer in that little pocket they had been. Did they get closer to the stage? Had they seen where he had gone? Did one of them text him? He was afraid to pull out his phone, both in rudeness and in the possible mortifying teasing. His phone was always on silent, at least. What he didnât know couldnât hurt him.
He turned back.
The melody echoing behind him was sharp and bright chords followed by a soulful voice.
She had been looking at the stage but immediately caught his gaze with a surprised expression. As if she hadnât expected him to stay once the music started. And he shouldnât, for it was rude and intrusive and inconsiderate to stay and invade a strangerâs space any longer.
But.
âYou didnât give me an answer.â
She blinked at him. âWhat?â
He pulled up the sleeve of his charcoal hoodie, revealing more of his tattoos. Her eyes tracked the movement, widening in surprise at the burst of color combined with thick black outlines. She had been able to see some of them, as his sleeves had been pushed up slightly, but it was much more obvious with the cuffs to the elbows. His forearm was covered with ink and there was no sign of stopping past the black patch in his inner elbow.
He looked back at her.
For a moment, they were young again.
Haloed by music, immersed in each other. A movie in real life. Suddenly it felt worth it â worth taking the risk of being rude, intrusive, or inconsiderate. Suddenly, it felt worth rolling the die and betting double just toâŚ
Have a taste of that peppermint flavor.
âYes or no?â he insisted, frowning, stubbornly pushing for an answer.
Deep down, Jungkook had always hoped she was thriving, shining brighter than all the stars, because then it proved that he, someone who also felt like he didnât understand love, could be as impactful as that sparkling smile.
The corner of her lips ticked up in amusement. âDoes a strangerâs opinion matter that much? I thought you werenât going to let the opinions of others bother you anymore.â
Are we really strangers?
He grinned. âA strangerâs opinion would be the most unbiased, right?â
Can strangers speak like the way you and I do?
She stared at him for seconds that felt like forever-ever-afters.
Then she laughed, reaching up with a graceful hand and touching her fingertips to her forehead. His breath caught his throat, suddenly flooded with memories of youth and rashness, short as it was. He could see it all in a whirlwind. Crystal clear and fleeting all at once. A perfect storm and now caught in the eye, all of his wonders and helplessness thrown to the wayside upon seeing this familiar gesture that he didnât even know until now was familiar, realizing now just how precious it was.
She lowered her hand with a mirthful and sparkling expression.
Beckoned with a downward wave as the music swelled, dangerously close to melting into the bridge.
âStep closer. Youâre in someoneâs way.â
Jungkook jolted, stumbling, realizing there was a short woman with carrying three full cups of foamy, honey-colored beer looking confusedly at him.
âOh, shit, sorryââ
Her hand touched his shoulder, directing him gently.
His body moved but his mind froze at the touch.
âListen. This is my favorite part. Iâll tell you after.â
One moment, there was space between them.
The next, he was standing next to her.
She tapped the air, closing her eyes.
âListen.â
He closed his eyes obediently. Took away the visual, and suddenly his world was flooded with the auditory. An intricate guitar solo to bring life to his fluttering heart blending with piano and drums flowing together. Memories flashing past, too fast to grasp onto, happiness and misery, and then the bridge came, the lyrics painting the photo of two colorless roses abandoned by the heavens.
He opened his eyes and looked at her.
Her eyes opened at the final chorus, exhaling softly. Turned her head and he could see in the shadows of her gaze that she, too, remembered their minty whirlwind of memories.
OrâŚ
Was he just hoping for that?
She smiled.
âI love your tattoos and piercings. You suit them well. Iâm glad you found your own color, Jeon Jungkook. You shine so much brighter now than you did back then.â
It was at this moment that he knew...
He fucked up.
He shouldnât have walked over here. He shouldnât have asked the question. He shouldnât have stayed and continued the conversation. He shouldnât have asked if she liked how he looked now. He should have stayed with his friends and wondered. He should have preserved in the hot and heavy instead of searching for the past of crisp and bright. He might get used to it. He might end up finding what he was looking for, whatever it was. Or, better yet, he might just forget this whole feeling and her lasting words if he never saw her smile as she spoke to him again.
But he didnât, so that meant he really fucked up.
Pit-a-pat.
He stared at her for so long that he didnât realize he hadnât said anything in reply until the song ended and her expression changed, tilting her head in puzzlement. She thinks Iâm insane. Say something, Jungkook! Anything! But nothing was coming to mind, as how it always was in these situations. Awesome.
âUhâŚâ
She smoothly interrupted his awkwardness. âDid you come with friends?â Expression neutral. âI would hate to keep you from your company for too long.â
The notable shift from more casual to formal slightly stung.
No.
Really stung.
âI⌠Well, honestly, I donât know where they are,â Jungkook confessed, scanning the crowd for a moment in attempt to look for them. It was a half-assed attempt, but it was an attempt. âI think Iâll have to look for them after the show. Weâre meeting up with the band to eat, I think.â
âOh? You know them?â
He pointed awkwardly to the stage. âAh, yeah, the lead singer⌠We met in high school and are in the same friend group⌠Well, Iâve only recently started hanging out outside again. Weâve played a lot of online games together.â
âOh, really?â She looked back up to the stage. âIn that case, do you think your friends would mind if Hyungu tagged along?â A cautious smile. âItâs just⌠Hyungu-ah is in a band too, but theyâre on hiatus right now. A few of them are doing military service. I think he really misses that environment. I canât really talk music with him though, I donât know anything,â she added ruefully, shaking her head and scrunching her nose. âSorry, thatâs probably a bit much to ask you after seeing you all this time. Iâm just worried about that introvert, haha.â
Oh, right. The substitute guitarist. Right, because she didnât simply magically appear as an act of fate or red string level of storytelling in a drama. Real life wasnât like that.
âS-Sure, we can all go togetherââ
She was asking him to suggest or go along with the proposition to not alienate the guy. It was clear that she cared about him. He didnât want to see them together, but⌠If she became part of his friend group, he might have a reason to go out more. Maybe he was a masochist. Maybe he just wanted to see if she was happy with that guy. Maybe heâŚ
Okay, he wanted her to be close, even if it was all futile.
She relaxed. âAh, phew. It really did take me a while to convince him to get out of the house,â she chuckled. âItâll be nice for him to be around people that understand his true language of music, haha. Iâll stick around just in case, but donât worry, Iâll leave and let you guys be guys, heh.â
Wait.
What?
Jungkook blinked rapidly. âHuh? Arenât you coming too?â
She stared back. âHuh? Why?â
He looked at her and she looked at him.
Both blank stares of confusion.
âWhy wouldnât you go with your boyfriend?â he blurted.
Invisible question marks popped up over her head. Then she jolted and jerked her head to the band, to the blue-haired guitarist tearing it up on stage with a grin, then back at Jungkook, her eyes wide. âMe? Me?â She pointed to herself quickly, half-laughing in disbelief. âMe and Kang Hyungu?â
Jungkook gawked.
She burst out laughing.
âOh, fuck, no, no, no,â she puffed, waving her hand all over. âNo, no, heâs not⌠Oh, sheesh, no, weâre not dating. You thought⌠hah, sorry, thereâs a misunderstanding here, hahahaâŚâ She flicked her hand downward as if that idea was so ridiculous that it needed to be physically slapped out of existence. âAh, no, how can I explainâŚâ
Huh?
Wait, didnât she mention earlier that his Kang Hyungu was going to be angry? She did directly say, Hyungu is gonna be pissed, right after Jungkook had told her he never bothered to remember what other girls told him, which would imply⌠argh, this was very baffling and Jungkook found his scatterbrained thoughts spinning trying to comprehend it all.
She straightened and ticked her head to the stage. âMe and him are just friends. Weâve been friends are a long time. Sorry, I can see why youâre mistaken since I came here with him, but Hyungu-ah is the type that really doesnât like new situations. When he got asked to fill in for another band, he wanted me to come with him, since he wouldnât know anybody. I believe he said he only spoke to these guys a couple times at festivals and he just needed some moral support.â She grinned. âYa know, a tough cookie in case things get tough, hehe.â
Jungkook understood but also he was confused. âO⌠OhâŚâ
She motioned away his doubts. âIn his words, youâre scary, noona. Iâd feel much better if you came with me. Can you believe this guy? Just admit youâre lonely.â She rolled her eyes. âHyungu-ah is a guitar genius. Heâs a music nerd. Iâve known him sinceâŚâ She paused, a dark shadow casting over her eyes as she recalled the past. âI was asked to tutor him when he was in high school and I was finishing university. He was shit at math and science. I helped him pass and then IâŚâ
And again.
That pause.
Jungkook got the feeling she wasnât sure if she wanted to tell him or not.
She shrugged. âI moved away. Then I saw his name on a poster. Turns out this nerd made his dream a reality and started that band after all.â Her expression became fond. Gentle. âI went to go see him perform. I was surprised he recognized me, actually. Hah, kinda likeââ
Her gaze shifted to him.
It was as if time stopped.
She continued, clearing her throat. âAnyway, Iâm not dating anyone. Definitely not Hyungu. Heâs more like a little brother to me. Or Iâm more like a bodyguard, heh. With only intimidation tactics. I really should work out, huhâŚâ
He frowned. âHave you talked about him before? I would have remembered someone so important to you.â
âNah, I think you and me was after university. When I was being a sluââ She cut herself off. âAhem, I mean, I was young and didnât really want to deal with, well, anything. Running from myself, so to speak.â She sighed. A little heavy. âI meant to say sorry, back then. You got caught up with my madness.â
She winked.
Jungkook felt his heart skip a beat.
âBut, hey, you dodged a bullet, eh?â
He shouldnât. He really shouldnât. That burst between them wasnât there anymore.
Right?
Wrong.
He grinned.
âNah, Iâm bulletproof.â
Something about her.
Do you feel it too?
Her gaze sharpened and she stilled, mischief sparkling in her eyes.
âOh, yeah?â
-
Well.
Canât say you expected the events of tonight to be on this yearâs bingo card.
You laid in bed and scrolled through your phone, but you didnât pay much attention to anything on the screen. On one hand, you felt a little restless leaving Kang Hyungu to fend for himself with his low alcohol tolerance. On another hand, he was a grown man and would call you in the middle of the night to pick him up if he was really fucked up. Eh, he was too much of a good boy to be irresponsible.
You chuckled to no one in particular.
You were alone, after all.
It was a miracle, really, that little Hyungu still wanted to be your friend now.
In some ways, he was still the same kid you had met all those years ago. You didnât really interact with him much as you were a couple years older and, well, a girl. You couldnât really look at him either, all things considering. After all, wasnât it highly probable that the bags under his eyes was your familyâs fault? Your family and his family happened to be next-door neighbors at the apartment complex.
No one really talked about it.
In certain areas, the sounds of yelling and thrown dishes were simply background noise. Normal circumstances. The first near two decades of your life was that every day. Most of the time, your presence was as insignificant as a cockroach. Sometimes you would be spoken of but never spoken to. You learned from a pretty young age to shut up or be forced to shut up. The family motto was, children are not meant to be seen or heard. The adults were speaking. More accurately, arguing, escalating to screaming, and then to scalding silent treatment. Repeat cycle. You learned to snatch food from the fridge as soon as you saw it. No one was going to prepare anything for you, but at least there was always something edible in there.
Until you became a teenager, that was.
It got especially bad when you attended high school as both sides picked up hideous habits to deal with their issues. In your opinion, they should have picked divorce to deal with them, but instead they chose gambling and serial cheating. Sometimes neither would come home for days. Whenever they crossed paths, the endless war continued. There was no way to predict when the silence could become suddenly violate and now you were old enough to understand what was going on â and old enough to loathe it. You barely saw your next-door neighbors at that time because you did basically anything you could to avoid going home. There was only so much a child can take.
They either didnât notice or didnât care.
It was also about this time that you started using sex as a coping mechanism.
Approval by society wasnât high on the list for you at that time, nor was it now. Must have been the upbringing. You watched alcohol become an expensive addiction for your parents and, paired with their mindless days at the casinos and excess spending on extramarital pleasures, illegal drugs were out of the question. Sex, however. If you knew what clinics to go to or where to shoplift, well. Free protection. Yup. During university, though, was when you needed money. You couldnât go far as you couldnât pay to live in a dorm. Your scholarships were barely covering tuition, so living at home was the only option. At this point, your parents had mostly forgot forgot that there was someone they birthed living in the apartment with them, which was fine by you, except when you needed to eat.
How Kang Hyungu knew things he shouldnât know was a mystery you never figured out.
You had gotten locked out, again, and some loud dispute was happening behind the door. Deadbolted. It was shaping up to be a shit night â that was until a tall high schooler with a guitar bag approached the door to your right. You tried not to look at him and decided you would leave to find a PC bang to spend the night. But he must have seen your university-branded bag and called out your family name.
That was when Kang Hyungu started talking to you.
He must have noticed the many times that you had been locked out. Well, how could he ignore it? You didnât want to do the small talk thing except for immediately informing him with your given name. However, your ears perked up when he mentioned that he needed help with math and science classes. He was looking to pay a tutor. Cram school was pretty expensive. Turns out you both had attended the same high school â of course, considering you lived in the same damn apartment building â and the high school posted notices about alumni that had received scholarships. That shit was a big deal to educators.
That was how you ended up in a basement studio room listening to five high schoolers make songs for hours and teaching them calculus, biology, and chemistry. All of them ended up being mild levels of garbage at those subjects, but it made teaching in a group much more efficient. It was thanks to Hyungu that you were able to eat all of university. Honestly, you didnât really need the money as much as you needed somewhere to be. Yeah, it was pretty clear that Hyungu knew that somehow. He was a lot more observant than you gave him credit for. Neither of you really talked about it even though you should have.
Maybe, thenâŚ
When you graduated university, it was clear you had to leave. It was clear you had to put some distance between you and those who birthed you. Turns out, they did it for you, because one day you came home from job hunting and you didnât have a home anymore. The apartment door was open and some random people were moving in. Cool. A talk with the leasing office, then. Turns out your parents moved out and didnât bother to tell you. Together? Separately? Who the fuck knew. You found a box of your clothes in the dumpster along with some other random shit. Your birth certificate, even.
Your entire existence thrown in the trash.
It had really not been the best time.
Couple months of living strictly from PC bangs and business hotel rooms, you started a desk job at minimum wage. Funny how a degree didnât do much but whatever. You also continued your not-so-great coping mechanism of fucking around, which is how you met Jeon Jungkook. He definitely had a different idea of how it all went down, but.
You paused, seeing that you had pulled up your phone contacts and there he was.
Even through changed models, your phone contacts transferred over. You never bothered to clear them out unless the person was worth blocking. Jeon Jungkook wasnât worth blocking. The breakup, if you could call it that, was pretty simple. You said what you said and he didnât fight you. You didnât need his number in the years after, but you forgot about thinking you needed to delete unused numbers. You didnât really forget him, though.
He was the only one that you felt sorry for breaking his heart.
He hadnât been your type back then. Your type had been self-destructive, and you had become tired of that, so you chased for the complete opposite instead. You knew full well that it wasnât going to work out. You didnât even go into it invested. But you chose well, and he was the complete opposite. He trusted everything you said. He put up with your cold front. He liked you more than you liked him and he had no idea that he did. In fact, you wouldnât be surprised that he wouldnât care even if he knew. He was good in bed too. Eager, quick to learn, and listened to everything you said. Tried everything you asked without questioning or judging. It was precisely why you broke it off before it got too deep, because it got too deep way too fast.
He thought of you too highly when, at that time, you were too low to be anything above a grey area.
Arenât you afraid Iâll forget you?
Just by asking you that, you never forgot Jungkook. He was the only one who seemed worried about that. Everyone else called you a heartless bitch or a dumb whore who was making a mistake. But Jungkook asked you if you were afraid that he would lose your memory, as if it was valuable enough to be tarnished.
Life worked in mysterious ways.
The happening of you seeing Hyunguâs name on a poster was by chance. The choice to go to that concert back then was on a whim. The chance of Hyungu recognizing you and coming to find you, dragging you to his bandmates that all yapped excitedly around you as if no time had passed was surprising. You had always thought they had forgotten or resented you on some level. After all, you didnât have a working phone for a while since you couldnât pay for a plan. You had essentially ghosted them for years, but Hyungu acted as if you had always been there. Iâll never forget that you took good care of me, noona. There was no way you could even attempt to date Kang Hyungu. How could you ruin a relationship that he kept preserved so preciously when you abandoned it? He spoke highly of you even when you hadnât been around, even when you had been too busy being selfish and self-centered. He smiled at you and relied on you once again because he trusted that you could be relied on. You would sigh and be hauled around by these young loons and support their blooming music career as you got your footing and made it to a better desk job with better pay.
And, by some fate, being close to Kang Hyungu caused you to cross paths with Jeon Jungkook once again.
Weird, eh?
You lowered your phone, staring up at the ceiling.
Well, life was full of coincidences, right? There was no reason to think this was a special event. After all, you had been trying your best to forget that time in your life where you felt the most lost. It took a lot of pushing past your own stubbornness to realize that how your parents felt about you had nothing to do who you were. Accepting that you werenât the worst fuckup ever to exist, thanks to the saving grace of someone who remembered to call you noona in an endearing way and not in an obligated way. It would be counterproductive toâŚ
Jeon Jungkookâs smiling face flashed in your mind.
You only had one orb-shaped lamp on currently. It was one of those that you could set the lighting color and tone to your taste. You liked the low, moody, cool blue lighting. Besides, you knew the layout of your apartment by now, and the overhead lighting wasnât necessary unless you needed to look for something.
The orb shone like the moon.
Jungkook had known such a different version of you and yet he still smiled at you like that.
âYou must have somebody, donât you?â you sighed to the shining moon.
It was silly to think too much about a random conversation. And, really, all he wanted to know was if you still found him hot or whatever. Yeah, he was just looking for external validation. You just happened to be there. Tattoos and piercings and working out? Sounded like a quarter life crisis to you. One that worked out in his favor, though. Your skin prickled with goosebumps, but it wasnât from a tangible cold.
In the darkness, the moon-shaped light glowed brightly.
âIt would be nice if you had somebody.â
You frowned and turned your back to the light.
It was a coincidence. Another moment of going through life and realizing you had been climbing Penrose stairs all along. How different were you from back then, really? It wasnât as if you magically started getting into relationships and had a damn epiphany. The cruel epiphany was that we were all stuck in this endless loop of our respective pasts catching up to the present. No amount of heat could dissipate the coldness of the future.
You sighed, melting into the comfort of your cool bedsheets.
âI should just forget about Jeon Jungkook,â you mumbled.
Whatever.
Wasnât like you were ever gonna see him again.
You dozed off.
Your phone vibrated against your chest.
-
âYou idiot, you know you have no toleranceâŚâ
âNoona, it was so fun, ahahahaâŚâ
The air was cold. The sting of winter clung to his cheeks. He called out her name, feeling like the sound was drowned out by the cars and white noise in his head, but, once again, Jeon Jungkook completely forgot how loud he was.
Passersby jumped as he ran past clutching a guitar bag.
Her arms were wrapped around a blue-haired man who was dwarfing her frame. He looked half-asleep and too proud of himself but that was probably under the influence of alcohol and good vibes. She jolted, startled, her eyes widening as Jungkook skidded to a questionably close stop in front of them, nearly colliding into her.
In fact, he did.
âWoah!â
âYah!â
He threw an arm out and around them, snapping back to hold the three of them up, pressing the guitar bag to her chest. There they were, a bundle of people who somehow ended up like this with a guitar cuddled between them, standing in the middle of the sidewalk at midnight with nightlife bystanders staring at them like they were all insane. At least Kang Hyungu was completely oblivious. Come to find out during dinner, he had low alcohol tolerance. Less than a soju bottle low. Welp. Nobody had believed him and he had given in a bit. At least he had the backup plan of a close friend picking him up. The group of guys had all stayed at the restaurant, making sure he was safe until she arrived, flushed and windswept, bowing repeatedly in thankfulness.
Therefore, Kang Hyungu was blissfully unaware of the sudden awkwardness of past lovers staring at each other with their stunned faces millimeters from each other.
Jungkook froze, holding her tight.
âH⌠His guitarâŚâ
Her lips parted but no sound came out.
In his shock, he had only now realized she had removed her makeup. His heartbeat leapt to his throat, suddenly remembering how much he had loved the shape of her eyes and the color of her natural, full lips. How her cheeks seemed more filled out now. Healthier. Her skin glowed. He could almostâŚ
Almost.
His body shivered.
She blinked, casting her eyes down. âOh, shit, how could I forget⌠T-Thank you. He would be heartbroken without his precious guitar,â she breathed out quickly and exasperatedly, reaching up to grab the strap. âThank you. Sorry to trouble you.â
âItâs o-okayâŚâ
Jungkook reluctantly peeled away from her, taking a step back. There was an awkward moment of her still holding onto her friend and shouldering the guitar, juggling between the two. Even in that short moment, Jungkook realized Kang Hyungu must work out. He was not as light as he seemed. Instinctively, Jungkook reached out and held Hyunguâs shoulders when the guitar slipped from her narrow shoulder.
âAw, fuckââ
Jungkook almost laughed at her puffed cheeks and under-the-breath swearing.
Almost, because his heart ached suddenly.
She had been so cute when she was mad, even if it was being taken out on him. He always thought that, so it had always been hard to argue when he was trying not to be in love with those cheeks.
âSorry, I got him,â she sighed. âIâll get him home even if I have to drag him.â
âIâll help you, noona.â
She froze with her arms around another man. Her eyes darted and fixated on him.
Jungkook realized his mistake and also froze.
He had been calling her formally by name out of politeness until now. The same way strangers would address each other with no intention of ever meeting again. The honorific had just slipped out naturally. Or unnaturally, depending on how one considered the effects of alcohol. The blue-haired guitarist was half-asleep on her shoulder. There were only two conscious souls under this streetlamp on this cold night.
A diffused spotlight.
He sputtered. âS⌠Sorry, was that too informalâŚ?â
Her gaze shifted. Were her cheeks pink from the crisp air or was it his eyes playing tricks on him? âNo, itâs fine, I justâŚâ She shook her head, swallowing hard. âItâs been a while since you⌠Itâs okay,â she chuckled, the corner of her lips rising. âI mean, I would be pissed if you called me anything else. Our age difference is not that significant, but itâs there.â
âY-Yeah.â
Was there hope in those shadowy eyes or was it all in his mind?
âDonât you have to go home too?â
He grinned.
âAh, I stay up until three in the morning every night anyway. Letâs get Hyungu-ssi home.â
-
Which was how you ended up on a bus with not-so-little-anymore Kang Hyungu snoring on your left shoulder and your past fling Jeon Jungkook on your right.
Awkward.
You clutched Hyunguâs guitar bag like your life depended on it. Actually, deep down you were kind of glad it somehow ended up this way. Being on a bus at midnight meant the crowd was the unpleasant kind. It must have been an odd sight. Sleeping Hyungu by the window, you in the middle seat holding a very expensive guitar, and Jungkook at the aisle being a great big buffer to keep the unsavory folk away. He was wearing a thick black parka over his charcoal sweat set, and he had his hood up to protect his ears from the cold.
For some reason, his jaw was clenched.
His eyebrows were furrowed too, giving him a very mean appearance for no reason. Or, at least, no discernable reason you could conclude. He wasnât looking at anyone in particular as far as you could tell.
âSorry about this,â you suddenly said.
Jungkook flinched and turned his head to look at you. Instantly, his expression burst into life, the stern expression melting away into sparkling big peepers and pink lips in a small âoâ, making your breath catch as the small mole under his lip appeared.
You used to kiss that mole first before you kissed his lips.
Used to.
âOh, itâs nothing,â he replied with a smile.
âI feel like I cut your night short.â
He gave you a lopsided grin, scratching his cheek. âEh, I can go to the club or karaoke bar some other time. And maybe I need to not be so easily influenced, ahahahaâŚâ
You hummed. âGuess youâre still the same, going along with our peopleâs suggestions.â
He puffed his cheeks. âNo, Iâm not. Iâm here with you now, arenât I?â he shot back.
Pause.
You both looked away at the same time.
Hyungu snored softly in your ear.
Thanks for that, man.
You tried to ignore the creeping goosebumps along your back. It was not the outside temperature. You were wearing your big black leather jacket over the black sweatshirt and jeans you yanked on to quickly get out the door. Your shoulder bumped into Jungkookâs as the bus stopped and let some passengers off. It was still a few stops yet of this awkwardness. For fuckâs sake, you were the older one. Come on. You resisted the urge to slap your own cheeks to get a grip. Nothing is going on here. The heart palpitations were in your head. Yeah. Totally.
âThank you, again.â
You felt him shift, sitting up straighter. âI really donât mind at all, noona.â
You sat up too, casting him a sideways half-smile.
He bit the left side of his lip, mumbling.
âI never minded doing anything for you.â
A strange tingling sensation danced over your scalp and down your shoulders. Sigh. He was doing this on purpose, right? One look and of course not. You shut your eyes. Maybe you could just make up a reason to hate him. You thought you had lost him under other bodies and darker nights and bad decisions. You thought he hated you for ending it the way you did, so coolly and unfeelingly. You thought.
âHave you been happy, Jungkook?â
You felt him hesitate. You could almost remember how he smelled back then. Like crisp linens and bright cotton. He loved fabric softener and similar clean scents. Have you been happy after me? You hoped so. In retrospect, you had been such a small, meaningless part in this winding road of life.
âI⌠I guess? Iâm doing things I like to do. I feel like Iâm able to live more freely, and I figure I can just⌠keep doing what Iâm good at.â
You smiled.
âThatâs good.â
You opened your eyes.
âWhat about you, noona?â
Have I been happy?
Did you even know what that meant? And yet you felt the weight of precious Hyunguâs head against your shoulder. Someone who relied on your good heart wholeheartedly. Never mind your opinion of if your heart was good or not, or even there. Happy? You went to work. You enjoyed your hobbies like music and games. You stayed home and shopped online when you were bored. You had the money to buy your favorite snacks and you had the luxury to have poor time management to eat them at midnight and wake up puffy the next day.
You had a very simple life that your younger self could barely dream of.
I donât want to end up like my parents.
Was that why you didnât want to be in a relationship?
âNoona?â
You looked up suddenly, noticing your surroundings. Quickly pulled on the cord to create the gentle bell tone.
âWe need to get off here.â
-
Somehow, Jungkook ended up in a strangerâs corner apartment surrounded by vinyl, boxed CD albums, and music equipment. It was on a lower floor so at least they didnât have to climb any stairs to get to the front door. The living room area was less like a living room and more like a half-music studio, complete with guitars, speakers, and a computer with lots of expensive looking music equipment around it. The surrounding walls had black foam squares taped neatly, even on the ceiling. The rest of the wall space was occupied by posters of various indie and mainstream bands. He was surprised to see the few plushies of penguins on the couch. Along the wall of the stairs were flyers that each had a corresponding nail that hung lanyards with plastic cards â artist passes. Festivals and concerts and such, each one containing a recurring name if he looked closely enough.
He, along with his past lover, helped the young man he had just met tonight into the bed in the loft area.
It was a small space.
Somehow, they managed being that close.
âThanks, again,â she sighed, descending down the stairs in front of him. âYou must be thirsty. There has to be some water around here.â
Somehow, Jungkook found himself standing in the hallways of a strangerâs apartment drinking a bottle of water as he watched the one who got away rip a memo note off a pad and scribble something down, finding a Pingu mug to sandwich it under.
Somehow.
She turned around and sighed, looking relieved. The guitar bag was on the sofa, safe and sound.
Then they stared at each other, realizing they were now alone.
Well, not alone.
Above them, Kang Hyungu was in dreamland.
âAhâŚâ
Her shoulders slumped.
âSorry, I didnât even ask how out of your way this was. Iâll pay for a taxi back.â
âAh, no, thatâs okay. I can make my way.â
âDonât be like that,â she scolded, although not with much severity. âI canât take advantage of your kindness.â
He paused, staring into her eyes. They hadnât turned on too many lights. Enough to see, and then turned off most of them right away to avoid waking up the neighbors with the brightness. Only the warm bulb by the door was on now, illuminating them together.
âNoona, can I ask you something?â he asked softly, realizing his voice shook a little.
She lifted her head, pulling her hands out of her pockets.
âYeah, of course. What is it?â
Have you ever been in love?
He looked at her, and he remembered the question she didnât answer on the bus. They had been hurried and trying not to inconvenience anyone. Now that what about you was lost in the whirlwind of sights, sounds, in time past. Jungkook was pretty sure that he knew what the line of love and distraction was, but he found he had no real words to describe it. Only a feeling of sureness, just as he was sure that if he asked this question, have you ever been in love, he would be overstepping a boundary somehow.
Mostly because it seemed obvious.
And also because it was not fair to ask questions that he was personally invested in the answer and honestly didnât know if he wanted to know the answer.
Had he ever been in love? Sure, although he knew it was always with the caveat of what he knew at the time and driven by the image painted by his own parents. A miracle that he had a chance to witness. He hadnât really thought about how deeply seeing them interact affected him until he met her. She never spoke about her parents. It was like they didnât exist. No photos, no calls, no casual drop-bys to hand over a home-cooked meal and say hi. In contrast, Jungkook had the unfortunately mortifying moment of being balls deep and then interrupted by his own mother right before the big finale. She just silently laughed while hiding behind the door as his mom attempted to enter his apartment, why are there clothes all over the floor, aish, I keep telling you that I didnât teach you to be messy, and him trying to reassure her that everything was fine and he had to be somewhere soon.
Yeah.
Anyway.
It the time it had been embarrassing, but she had told him something that had, again, stuck with him for a long time after. You are lucky that she takes the time to bother you. Some people would do anything to have their parents care for their well-being just one more time. The realization had humbled him. Sorry. I didnât know your parents passed away. But she had just shaken her head with a smile that didnât reach her eyes.
No, Jungkook, theyâre very much alive. They just never cared about me, ever.
He had felt very sorry then, but she had waved her hand and laughed.
Donât be. I canât miss something Iâve never had.
It was then that Jungkook realized that he believed in love because his parents were in love. It was later when Jungkook realized that he, too, had been in love, but this was only after he had stopped seeing her. Only after he stopped tasting her strong, concentrated flavor. The world had become a tasteless future despite all the color and saturation trying to grab his attention.
Because she had left.
It might have been short, but that time had been a forever-after packed into a few months.
Jungkook jumped as she tapped the back of his hand with her fingertip.
âHello? Welcome back to Earth. Did you enjoy your time spacing out?â
She looked amused.
âGuess you havenât changed from your random space-outs, heh,â she chuckled, taking his empty water bottle and tossing it in the recycling. Even removed the paper label and everything. âCome on. You shouldnât be interrogating me in Hyunguâs apartment anyway.â
She ushered him out of the apartment and made sure to lock up behind herself. He wondered why she had a key. Then again, her and the guitarist were very clearly good friends. Jungkook wondered if it would still be like that if Hyungu or her started dating. Or, maybe not, if they ended up dating each other.
Suddenly, Jungkook felt incredibly helpless.
She bumped into him because he stopped walking, bouncing off. They were still in the narrow hallway, trying to be quiet so as not to disturb the neighbors at this late hour. The light in the hallway was warm and low. Not due to the night. More because the lightbulbs were generally old and shitty.
âWoah, whatâs going on? You donât know how to walk straight? Do you need a leash?â she whispered lightheartedly, coming around him.
He looked up.
It must have shown on his face because the playful laughter in her features immediately slipped away upon eye contact.
He had millions of unfair questions swirling in his mind, can we try again, is there something wrong with me, why did you leave me, and Jungkook knew he could ask none of them. For fuckâs sake, they had only just seen each other again tonight. He should just be happy they were together now, even in this platonic way. He should just be happy that she seemed healthy and content. He should justâŚ
But youâve always known me so well.
You arenât hard to read, Jungkook, she used to laugh when they talked about how fast they had gotten into bed together.
She placed her hand on his elbow.
Dragged from his minty whirlwind memories and thrown into the present, Jungkook stared at her unreadable expression, but there were too many shadows and his vision was too clouded with what was.
âCome on. We canât stay here,â she murmured gently, pulling him along.
-
âIâm not letting you go home alone. Itâs not safe.â
âWhat do you think Iâve been doing all this time? Teleporting?â You scowled. âBesides, turns out your apartment is closer to here and mine is further down. It makes no sense for you to double back.â
One thing about Jeon Jungkook was that once he got an idea in his head, he was more stubborn than an ox. It was true back then when he was chasing after your ass and it was true right now. He was frowning at you and furrowing his eyebrows. The frustrated expression was broken by how big his dark brown eyes were.
âI keep telling you itâs not a big deal for me, noona. I donât mind.â
âThis isnât about whether or not you mind,â you sighed grumpily. âIt just doesnât make sense. Fine. Fine, do whatever you want.â
Which was how you ended up in a taxi with Jungkook, crammed in the backseat of a tiny sedan with a grandpa who didnât make small talk and blasted trot music. Well, it probably would have felt less tiny if Jungkook wasnât right next to you like a big fabric blob. You hadnât paid much attention to how crowded you had been on the bus since you were already weighed down by half-dead guitarist and his guitar. You had thought Hyungu had been playing up his drunkenness for the attention but he had thoroughly passed out by the time the bus had arrived. He was a lightweight so you werenât super worried to leave him alone. Then again, you couldnât tell Jungkook to get lost and leave you at another guyâs apartment, because what kind of message would that send?
Not that Jungkookâs opinion of how you spent your time mattered.
It had just felt rude, that was all.
You were kind of worried about him anyway. You witnessed him zoning out and simply standing there twice already. Boy was gonna get kidnapped one of these days. Sheesh. The car rolled to a stop. You paid the driver through the app and thanked him, getting a wordless nod in return. Cool. Opened the car door and climbed out, followed by a big shadowy blob.
Uh.
The car drove away.
âJungkook, you should have asked him to drive you to your place,â you pointed out.
Those big brown eyes looked from your apartment complex to you. âHuh?â
Was the heck is on his mind? You sighed and pulled up the taxi app again. âGive me your address. I did say Iâll pay for it.â
âI, ermâŚâ
You looked up at Jungkookâs uneasy tone. Confused. He looked uncomfortable and awkward, not really looking at you in the face.
âI kinda have to go.â
You blinked at him.
He waved his hands. âEh, itâs fine. Iâll go find a bush or something. Um.â
âJungkook, Iâm not letting you pee in a bush. Do you see this place? You think theyâll let me continue living here after seeing on one of their cameras that my guest peed in a bush?â
He looked from the white walls to the stone fence to the black iron gate to the immaculately clean, very neatly trimmed, small ball-shaped bushes. They werenât even knee-height. âI-I-I just donât want you to t-thinkâŚâ He shifted, wavering a bit. Eyes darting in every direction. âIt was all the water and the alcohol earlier, umâŚâ You sighed and turned around to punch in the code. âI didnât want you to think Iâm doing it on purpose.â
You paused.
Then you pushed the gate open and motioned him in.
âCome on before your piss yourself.â
Which was how you ended up sighing as you tossed your jacket onto your large charcoal sofa while Jungkook emptied his bladder in the bathroom of your apartment. At least you hoped that was what he was doing. You werenât going to be a creep and try to listen for evidence. You flopped down, cozying into the soft but durable fabric. You wouldnât have brought this couch if it wasnât for the great deal and the ability for it to be modular, meaning you could lock the pieces together to make a bed and watch television, as well as also having the ability to make it look like an L-shaped sofa when you had guests over so that they didnât know that you really put the potato in couch potato several times a week.
Hey.
Money well spent.
Of course, you usually only had very few guests over. Occasional one to warm the bed and maybe hosting Hyunguâs band members. Not at the same time. Duh. You werenât trying to traumatize the five friends you had â Hyungu and the other four band members. Yeah. Wasnât much, but they existed, even though they were busy right now being Korean men and all that. Soon, Hyungu would be egg-headed and off to duty too. You puffed out your cheeks. Temporary, of course, and yet.
Who knows what could happen?
You were always prepared to find yourself alone.
Wouldnât be the first time to come home, only to realize home didnât exist.
It never had.
You heard commotion and Jungkook reappeared, looking relieved. Probably because he was. âSorry about that. I didnât mean toâŚâ He trailed off.
You stood up.
You were past the wishing phase. The pretending phase. Past the numbness and looking for promises when there were none. Expectation was only the precursor to disappointment, after all. To be honest, if it wasnât for your carnal sex drive, you would be past the distractions too. Good to know you werenât completely ready to throw in the towel yet. If it wasnât for someone relying on you, you as well have chosen to fade away.
If it wasnât forâŚ
You made eye contact with Jeon Jungkook, even though you didnât want to.
Before today, you really wouldnât have cared about seeing someone you used to date. Past was in the past. You had made a lot of bad decisions. So far, they hadnât come back to haunt you yet. As you stared into those big brown eyes, frozen in place by your sudden attention, you wondered what you could say to assure him that you were different from back then. You could admit it now. You could admit back then you were weaker than anybody else, fighting your own demons by running away, wondering what was wrong with you to have parents who fought every day and did everything to run away from their internal struggles except the solution of divorce, and you could admit now that you took out that loss on everyone else around you, all the while knowing the reality.
That was just how life was, sometimes.
Life didnât know fair and unfair. People made choices without caring about the consequences all the time. You didnât care enough back then, because you knew you wouldnât know what to do if they cared back. You knew you could never be beloved when you had nothing and no one to call home.
I donât want to avoid reality, even if Iâm afraid.
The past memories flickered like a whirling panorama â Jungkook nervous in front of you, trying to ask about how the automated system worked so he could get ramyeon with the soft-boiled egg at the PC bang in the dead of night. Playing computer games with him, laughing because he wasnât very good but still trying for some reason. Learning that he wasnât doing very well in university and that he was trying to do the escapism thing while working on his video editing business on the side. Sharing a bed with him, not saying anything about how all your belongings only fit in one duffel bag. He didnât have to know. His face between your hands. Kisses that took his worries away. Body to body, warm for the first time in a long time. Your fingertips walking up his chest, all the way to his rattling heartbeat, turning a simple night into a fantasy.
The thought of your actions having any positive effect seemed foreign and impossible.
But maybe that was the victim mentality talking.
âCan I ask you something, Jungkook?â
He looked surprised. âMâŚMe?â
You hooked your thumbs into the belt loops of your jeans, doing something with your hands so they wouldnât fidget about. Even now, he was the same. There was still this persistent innocence about him, stubbornly sticking around as if he could be young forever. He still believed in something, even if life kept trying to tell him time and time again that it wasnât true.
âDo you still have feelings for me?â
You saw the whirlwind flash through his eyes.
Guilt. Nervousness. Uncertainty. Helplessness, wondering if he was asking for something that could never be given. He was still so easy to read. Those big brown eyes couldnât hide anything and it wasnât his nature to lie. There were stars in his eyes.
Those stars were tears.
âYou said⌠You said you canât feel love,â he shuddered, blinking hard.
There wasnât much space between you and him. Somewhere around a meter. But it felt like light-years of desolate space and sudden heartache from a heart you werenât sure you had. Maybe you were born with one, but all flowers wither with no care. You were the desert and he was the ocean, at least in the emotional sense.
You wanted to insist.
I can know love!
But, could you?
You collected a breath and nodded. âI wanted to say Iâm sorry for back then. For using you, even though you probably donât think you were used. For breaking the unspoken promise I couldnât understand.â
Jungkook looked back at you. His voice small, stranded and lost.
âI have never fallen in love after you, noona.â
You were different now, you told yourself, but maybe you werenât really and that was the problem.
âItâs impossible to fall in love when I have always been in love with you.â
You opened your mouth to tell him that was silly. It had only been a couple months. You hadnât even really been that attentive. It had been a short-lived romance, if you could call fucking constantly and gaming at the PC bang at three in the morning that. A fleeting gratification. A sharp burst that lit up the timeline of a very long and eventful life that Jeon Jungkook would have. Nothing more.
JustâŚ
A pop of peppermint gum.
You had meaningful relationships. Ones that taught you things about yourself and people. Maybe even ones that other people could consider love, depending on what their definition was.
But, then there wasâŚ
Jungkook.
You opened your mouth to tell him he was silly but you couldnât bring yourself to do it.
Had it been love?
And could it still be love?
âYou⌠You donât even know what Iâm like now,â you blew out, suddenly feeling winded. âI could be a total asshole.â You looked away, tucking your tongue in your cheek.
âBut I helped you make sure you got your friend and his guitar home safe?â Jungkook questioned, sounding confused. âWould a total asshole would do that?â
âI donât know,â you rambled, not so sure about anything anymore. âI mean⌠youâve only just met me again after how long?â
âA really long time,â Jungkook answered, frown in his tone.
âYeah, exactly.â You latched on, not caring that he didnât even calculate it. âHow do you know itâs not rose-tinted glasses and all that?â
He shrugged. Glanced at you. âI donât really think I have the brainpower for that, noona.â
You stared at him.
Jungkook shrugged again.
You shook your head. âYou canât say that about yourself.â
He scratched his cheek, looking sheepish. âAt least I know where Iâm still lacking?â
You let out an exasperated sigh. âNo, youââ
He beat you to it.
âDo I have to understand?â
You froze, realizing you had taken a few steps towards him, perhaps in hopes of shaking some sense into him. This was crazy. This didnât make any sense. This was only a coincidence turned convoluted by memories, tangled emotions, circumstanceâŚ
âMy mind might forget, but my body always remembered. There is only you for me.â
Your head snapped up, seeing his soft smile. The recall was so fierce that it was dĂŠjĂ vu, except you had been the one with the gentle smile and he had been the one lost, wondering if you were afraid of losing his love. Now. His short black hair a little windswept, his dark brown eyes a little glassy, and yet he smiled at you, mole peeking out from under the center of his lower lip. Do I have to understand? To understand was to know and to know was to be sure that you were in love, except that you said so yourself that sometimes the thoughts didnât quite catch up to the heart.
He looked embarrassed, abruptly looking away, letting out a shaky breath.
âItâs just⌠I think I knew it all along but, even if I know, it doesnât mean I can change your mind, ha⌠ha, can you imagine, running off to track you down, you would just think Iâm crazy, and if I jeopardized your happiness for my own selfishness, I donât think I could live with myself⌠and, anywayâŚâ
He wasnât really looking at anything anymore.
âEven if what I wanted was ugly, our time was beautiful.â
You stepped forward.
âItâs a common, basic story, isnât it? My wish for us to be exceptional is too foolish,â Jungkook laughed weakly. Rambling. Speaking from his heart but still unable to focus on the present.
You reached forward.
âI wanted everything about you. I still do.â
Your fingertip touched his cheek.
âDonât cry,â you finally said.
He froze.
You wiped away a fallen star, the overhead lights of your apartment catching the tears before Jungkook even realized they were there. You brushed the droplet away, but they were falling, falling, and he turned his head, still not really registering what was happening, even as the base of your palms pressed into his cheeks and swept his tears away, quickly breathless as you were captured by the universes entangled in his eyes. You could feel the wetness on your skin. The shudder in his breath. His hands came up to touch your wrists, and you still believed you couldnât be enough for him, even now, but your body responded on its own, cradling his face, bringing him to you.
âPlease donât cry,â you said again, softly, and realized you said it because, a long time ago, you would have done anything to have someone tell you that in the past, please donât cry. So, you told Jungkook instead.
He was someone as precious as a memory.
And, yes, even if your thoughts didnât catch up right away, you pulled him to you, body to body, feeling him shiver, Iâm sorry, Iâm sorry, this isnât very manly of me, and like clockwork you told him to shut up and cry, holding him because you remembered he liked to be held. You had told him back then that you werenât really the type to cuddle, but he had finally confessed late one night that he yearned to be close to you, even if only for a little while, and that he had been afraid to admit it in fear of pushing you away. So, you relented, if only to comfort him and make him happy.
Is that love?
âItâs okay to cry,â you murmured gently, stroking his hair. âItâs just not okay to cry alone.â
He buried his eyes into your shoulder and wept.
He was still in his jacket, swamping you with his frame and excess layers. You placed your arms around his waist under his parka, feeling his warm and shaking frame, gently placing your hands on his shoulder blades.
âIâm sorry⌠I-I donât k-know why Iâm c-cryingâŚâ
âShhâŚâ
You tugged him along. Step by step, and made him sit on the sofa with you, curled up in a tangle of limbs with your hands on his back. His body was hot from emotion, and he pulled his arms out of his jacket to wipe his nose and eyes with his hoodie sleeves, still not looking at you, and you gave him the privacy, not looking at him either, only holding him as close as possible and keeping his parka on his shoulders, covering you and him together.
âT-This wasnât how⌠I t-thought⌠how I would be hugging you a-againâŚâ Jungkook sobbed quietly, leaning his forehead against your shoulder.
You held him close.
âYeah, well, nothing is really turning out how you or I planned it. Mostly because neither of us had a plan to begin with.â
He laughed, albeit feebly and wetly, but you just smiled and placed your hand on his head again, running your fingers through his hair. You didnât have a grand speech planned. You didnât even really know the right words to say or the correct way to organize your thoughts. You simply leaned him against you, nestled in the cushions, and kept your arms wrapped around him for a long, long time.

âď¸ a blind coffee date:)
âď¸ you meet at a cute little cafe, heâs sitting at a table with his drink and the sun is shining on him just right itâs like a scene out of a movie (tbh i would be like âhow am i being set up with someone so cute like b r o??â)
âď¸ but Dongmyeong is super easy to get along with!! he never runs out of conversations and thereâs never a dull moment with him
âď¸ itâs overall very fun, and comfy like youâre talking to a friend youâve known for a long time??
âď¸ he will most definitely ask for a second date right away, and he might get a little ahead of himself with a sixth and seventh date planned too:â)

đš a coffee and walk in the park date
đš you meet at a cafe, order your drinks and then walk through a nearby park
đš you get to know each other and you find heâs probably the cutest and most energetic person youâve met
đš but he is also really good at listening to you and asking you about yourself too:(
đš heâll play you some of his music if you ask him to, heâll just whip out some headphones and his soundcloud and BAM youâre listening to Zenith
(which if you havenât listened to Cyaâs soundcloud you should itâs totally amazing)

Spring Together đ¸
ONEWE - Kanghyun ( Kang Hyungu ) , fluff
enjoy ~~
you looked up the tree admiringly as the wind blew lightly on the pink cherry blossoms.
you giggled when a petal dropped on your forehead. you picked it up carefully and adored the beautiful flower.
the beautiful pink flower reminded you of your cute boyfriend, Kang Hyunguđ¸ .
you kept the small petal in the book on your lap before scanning the area , looking for your boyfriend's bright blonde hair but he was nowhere to be seen.
you pouted as you opened your book, turning to the last page you stopped at .
instead of wasting time on the park bench, you indulged yourself into your fantasy world.
~
Hyungu mumbled under his breath in panic as he looked at the time . 5.30pm .
he knew he had a book date with you at 5pm but he didn't notice the time as he was working on his new song.
Hyungu quickly packed his own book and things before rushing out.
Hyungu wanted to text you but his actions were interrupted when his neighbour called his name.
"Hyungu hyung ! can you help me with the guitar part for my song? i have to submit my demo to my music teacher tomorrow for my project. please please this is so important to me.". Giwook, Hyungu's kid neighbour, begged.
Hyungu hesitated for a bit. he didn't want you to wait longer but he also didn't want Giwook to flop his music class.
Hyungu bit his lips and decided to help Giwook first. he didn't think it was going to take that long anyways.
~
you yawned a little as you closed your almost finished book.
you rubbed your arms to gain some warmth. it was getting a bit darker and the weather was chillier than earlier.
6.30pm.
"hmm Hyungu is quite late today..." you mumbled as you yawned again. your eyes were getting heavier. the windy weather was so calming, you started dozing off.
your head nodded a few times before leaning all the way to the left.
you almost fell down sideways on the bench when a hand gently caught your head.
the sudden contact woke you up. you rubbed your eyes before looking up only to be greeted by none other than your boyfriend.
Hyungu gave you an apologetic smile as he sat beside you. he grabbed your hand into his and squeezed it gently.
"i'm so sorry. i know i'm very late. i'm sorry,, ahh you even fell asleep waiting for me!". Hyungu started babbling as he overthinks things.
you put your index finger on your lips, asking him to just be quiet before putting your head on his shoulder.
"i'm still sleepy...". you whispered as you dozed back to dreamland.
Hyungu blinked at your actions, confused for a while before chuckling lightly. he took your hand and left a peck on it before rubbing it with his thumb softly.
as you rested your eyes, Hyungu took out his book and read some pages as he listened to your calm breathing.
~
after about half an hour, you finally woke up from your nap. you stretched cutely and let out a sigh of satisfaction as you felt refreshed.
Hyungu chuckled at your actions before squishing your cheeks together and leaning in to give your lips a peck.
you cringed at his cheesy move and stood up from the bench quickly.
"let's go eat something!". you suggested.
Hyungu smiled and nodded as he kept his book.
"after naptime, of course it's snack time, right?". Hyungu teased.
you only rolled your eyes playfully and pulled Hyungu up.
"let's go eat~~~ i wanna try some cherry blossom-themed macarons!!!". you chirped as you interwined your fingers with his long ones.
Hyungu only hummed and swayed your hands together gently.
~
the two of you finally arrived at the cafe that was selling the macarons you wanted to try out.
after ordering , the both of you settled on a table by the window.
"babe.. i still haven't told you the reason i was late...". Hyungu started.
you nodded, encouraging Hyungu to continue.
"i know we had the date today but i really didn't realise the time, and when i was rushing out, giwook asked for a bit of help. i can't say no to him too.. i'm so sorry for making you wait long...". Hyungu explained and held his head down.
you chuckled as you ruffled his sad-looking head.
"it's okay Hyungu,, but next time just inform me okay! i was worried >.< ".
Hyungu gave a small smile and nodded cutely.
your order finally came.
you ordered some cherry blossom themed macarons together with a blueberry cheesecake one and more flavours.
Hyungu ordered some too, including a classic blueberry one and a classic lavender one because, you guessed it, they're purple.
you found it cute that Hyungu even chooses food according to his favourite colour. too cute.
your cafe date was filled with soft giggles as you and Hyungu shared your thoughts about the books each of you were reading.
it may sound boring to others but it was your favourite.
you loved listening to Hyungu's soothing voice sharing about his book, especially if the book was really interesting and amazed him .
Hyungu would have sparkles in his eyes and a big smile plastered on his handsome face.
you enjoyed his loving gaze too when you were sharing about your book.
Hyungu would always unconciously pout slightly and nod as he listened to you attentively. his hands would find yours and rub them softly.
the cafe date was refreshing.
~
you and Hyungu decided to walk around the town for a bit to spend more time together and enjoy each other's presence.
your height difference with Hyungu was not that great.
your height was just nice for you to lean on his broad shoulder as you wrapped your arms around his arm and strolled along the almost empty streets together.
"beautiful isn't it ? the sky? ". Hyungu asked softly.
you hummed in response as you looked up the starry sky.
"i'm so happy i could witness such a beautiful night with you, Hyungu.". you confessed.
Hyungu chuckled at your cute words and gently pulled his arm out of your grip only to wrap his arm around your shoulders.
Hyungu pulled you closer and pecked the top of your head.
"i hope we could witness more of such beautiful spring nights together in the future, love,".
.
.

Purple is Definitely Your Colour
Kanghyun x Reader word count: 591 fluff
"Why is everything here purple?" You're fond of the colour purple and Kanghyun wants a new hair colour
A/N: I will start moving my onewe imagines from ao3 here. So expect daily updates for the whole week
---
âWhy is everything here purple?â Kanghyun asked you.
He had decided to visit your house for a movie night, but now you see a frown on his face due to the fact that a lot of your things: throw pillows, outfits, socks, were all purple.
âWhat can I say? Purple is a pretty colour,â you grinned.
âAt least it looks good, itâs you after all.â
Seriously, why is this guy making you blush?
âAnyways, what do you wanna watch?â You asked.
âMaybe something with purple in it?â He teased, making you roll your eyes. You scrolled through your Netflix, ignoring the blonde-haired boy who sat down next to you. You settled on some movie you have said to Kanghyun you wanted to watch. He didnât mind, he enjoyed whatever you wanted. You settled back on your couch, making Kanghyun lay his head on your lap. You enjoyed patting his fluffy hair. Although it was a bit brittle due to bleach, you just loved playing with it.
âYou know, I actually like purple,â Kanghyun hummed.
âHuh?â
âItâs a nice colour, very soothing,â he said. âI kinda wanna dye my hair purple.â He got up from your lap and sat next to you.
âWhy not now?â You offered. âI think I have some purple hair dye.â You paused the movie and got up, rushing to the bathroom. You had attempted to date your hair purple but it did not end up being visible and you did not want to bleach your hair.
âYou should try doing it, it would look good on you,â you said, showing him the dye kit. Kanghyun pursed his lips, contemplating whether or not he should do it. Then again, it wouldnât be a bad idea. With a smile on his face, he got up and walked towards you.
âLetâs do it.â
---
âAre we doing this right?â
You two are currently in your bathroom, Kanghyun having a cloth wrapped around his neck as you attempted - keyword: attempted - to dye his hair. Truth be told, Kanghyun was rather nervous. He hoped you actually knew what you were doing.
âOkay, I think I got all of your hair,â you muttered. âSo we just need to wait for a bit.â
So the two of you decided to just wait in the bathroom, occasionally chatting and joking, but it was a bit awkward for the two of you to be in the bathroom. Kanghyun canât go out, he might get some dye on your stuff. And you canât leave him alone in the bathroom, you would feel bad.Â
âIs it time to wash it off?â Kanghyun asked.Â
You checked the time on your phone. âI think so.â
You helped Kanghyun bow over your bathtub and washed his hair.
âHow does it look so far?â He asked.
âLooks⌠pretty good.â
âYou sound unsure.â
âIâm not sure, I canât tell.â
You heard a groan coming from the guy.
âIf my hair is ruined after this Iâm painting your hair as well.â
Finally, you finished everything and dried Kanghyunâs hair.â
âSo?â
âIt⌠It looks good on you!â
Kanghyun checked in a mirror, humming to himself in delight.
âI like it,â he said. âDo you?â
You nodded. âYou look good.â
âBetter than before?â He joked.
âYeah, you look more handsome.â
Kanghyun chuckled and approached you, enveloping you in a hug.
âThanks,â he said.
Although surprised, you smiled and hugged him back.
âWe should get back to the movie before it gets late,â he said.
The two of you continued watching, eventually falling asleep on the couch together.

ATTENTION ALL ONEWE WRITERS
Ok so recently I watched Julie and The Phantoms and I love that show so much. So right now I wanna summon all the onewe writers, if you need inspo for a fic, this is it. Basically imagine an au based on the story of Julie and the Phantoms, where onewe dies right before a really important gig many years ago (this could be in their MAS 0094 days) and then get summoned as ghosts in the present day when the reader finds their demo cd and plays it. They then discover that they can be seen and heard again when they perform with the reader and decide to add the reader to their band.
If anyone actually writes this, I love you very much, you own my heart.
(If anyone reads this and has no idea what Julie and the phantoms is or who onewe are, please listen to their music, they have too many bangers!!!!)
