So… for In Spite of Ourselves
What’s Edda and Aven like?
Yay, I get to ramble about the brainworms!
ISoO! Edda and Aven have a more mature/ cynical take to them than in previous AUs I've made.
Edda is an officer/ detective who works under Angel. She mainly investigates and apprehends Darkfolk messing with the affairs of the Lightfolk. She has a lot of respect for the Darkfolk, though, being as she deals with them a lot. As such, she understands their tactics and abilities pretty well. Character-wise, she's very meticulous, observational, and blunt, and she gets very heated when things don't go her way or when someone disrespects her. She holds grudges a lot, too.
Aven is a bounty hunter. He technically works for Demon, but he takes jobs from anyone willing to pay a decent amount. It's how he makes ends meet (before the severance at least). He's very much like Duality! Aven, albeit with more angst: Aloof, cynical, irritated, and easily surprised. He's very traumatized, but doesn't realize it.
They both retain their abilities and weapons they have in canon, though they way they obtain them is a little bit different.
(Also clothing is still being worked on-)

Gonna be absent for a while - headed to a three day camp (with little to no cell service) as of today, and will be out of town late next week as well for about a week (will probably be online, tho)
Not that I'm too active over here right now, but still.

OKAY SO.
NEW WORLDLESS AU, HUH?
While at work, I was thinking of different AUs I could throw the Duo into.
And thus, I had an epiphany:
Noir. Kinda.
Film Noir (or just Noir) is a genre of media with themes of fatalism, cynicism, and moral greyness. It was popular during the 40s and 50s. But it's not just about melancholy sets and trenchcoats. Noir typically involves a protagonist being put into a worse situation by circumstances out of their control, and they either have to adapt and overcome this change, or succumb (of which could still happen regardless of what they do). It's about sudden change and what it does to a person. Makes them afraid. Desperate. Curious. Determined.
Anyways. Worldless.
Yeah, it sounded like the perfect thing.
So. It's very close to canon, and will mostly follow canon events. In this universe, the Lightfolk and Darkfolk are more civilized, but their minds are embedded with a deep-seated hatred and paranoia for the other (caused by Worldless, obviously).
Edda is a detective/ officer for Angel, who is tasked with killing a Darkfolk assassin who works for her mortal enemy Demon (Aven). During a fight with him, they sever this veil, and establish a connection between the two. Cue the events of the game (mostly).
I have a few things planned.
The Realms are unnamed as of now. The Starfolk live in a grand city (based on the Starfield in the beginning, the Trial Room, and Worldless' arena. That sort of stuff). It's surrounded by a black field (The Void in this AU). Beyond this field is the different realms and the 'doors' leading into them. Starfolk rarely leave the city, unusually for important business.
The Grey Beings (No name yet) do not live in the city, but the realms. They can't be seen by those shackled, and most grew to hate the Starfolk, since Worldless abandoned their kind after creating them instead.
The Transendeds (Name unknown as of now) are a group of rebels trying to defeat Worldless, but the members constantly butt heads and don't get much done due to their unstable and conflicting opinions.
There's a group of Grey Beings who help the Transendeds with supplies and weapons since they've been banished from their groups. They're the ones who give Edda and Aven the upgrades n stuff. The current working name is the Silver Slate.
So yeah.
Working name is the Entropy AU. Sort of an 'enemies to friends to lovers' relationship arc.

Okay so I had a very faint vision earlier out of nowhere and I need to share

Themb
Wildfire gets yeeted into Worldless and Aven decides to adopt him because I see Wildfire as a misguided and reckless child (I know nothing about him other than Rise and Shine and I haven't seen that video in years please don't banish me for this)
Am I onto something or on something with this

Sadri has to put up with it every single day.

I don't know how to perspective hhdhdjhrhdrhjg
Quite a short game, and the ending put my emotional state into a blender for a few hours and left me feeling unfulfilled. Was buying and playing this silly little game worth it?
ABSOLUTELY. Beautiful game in every way, super smooth and awesome combat and platforming (you can really do some top tier combos in battle that look cool as heck and the complex platforming tricks are fun to learn), and even if the ending kinda uh sucks imo, it seems like there's some more things to do afterwards. Heck I'll probably just play the whole thing again, there's several save files for a reason
And it's calming to draw, with simple yet iconic characters, there's little to stress over. For me at least. What a gorgeous game.

From the "What if..." series

Himminskers deeply value their feathers, so they always try to collect every single one after a skirmish or when they fall out naturally. They hide them in personal treasure chests, hang them around their homes, or give them as gifts. Feathers are considered symbols of virtue and trust among the himminskers, so if a Lightfolk of another species possesses one, they will be respected among their own kind. It also grants them the right to ask for favors or help without resistance — from other Lightfolk and even himminskers themselves.
But himminskers treasure their feathers not only out of pride, but also because they serve the next generation. When a new himminsker is born, they are not left in a cradle for stabilization; at this stage, their form is relatively stable, though still vulnerable. The newborn is taken outside to the highest point in the area, where the elders build a kind of nest from their own feathers as a base, layering it with their own down — sometimes even plucking both from themselves if there isn’t enough.
The nest is placed in a bowl-shaped platform, enclosed on all sides to prevent the infant from falling during the first weeks of life. The nest's components are regularly changed, replacing old feathers and down with fresh ones. After a while, once the young himminsker becomes strong enough, the elders retrieve their materials and begin using plant matter instead.
This habit is not just born from the physical needs of the starlet — to adapt to the new environment and form a bond with their guardians — but also has symbolic meaning based on himminsker beliefs. They believe that a young one must spend time among the feathers of the older generation to absorb their wisdom, determination, and above all, virtue. If this isn’t done, the young himminsker may feel abandoned and unwanted, and in the future, might even betray their kind.
Although each himminsker has an assigned guardian, she is raised collectively by all the older himminskers — at least by those who know how to care for starlets. Most adult Lightfolk are still not very skilled in this area. Starlets are constantly carried around — at first in small slings that the adults wear over their shoulders or on their backs. As the young grow older, they no longer need the slings and begin to cling to the adults on their own.
In adulthood, himminskers sleep standing up, wrapped in their wings so that they are completely hidden behind them — or at least leaving their head and halo exposed.
As for losgwaears, they are also more or less fully formed at birth, so they leave the cradle immediately. In some fiefs, the birth of a new demon is considered a holiday for all Darkfolk. A day off is declared, and a feast is held — though only losgwaears are present — where, at the end of the celebrations, the lord announces the name he has chosen for the newborn. Only other losgwaears will know this name at first, keeping it secret for a few days, and only then is it revealed to the rest of the Darkfolk.
On that day, gifts are presented to the young demon, though most do it reluctantly, knowing that this starlet could one day become a future rival. During the first few months, losgwaear needs warmth, so the guardian remains close at all times, providing heat and leaving only to bring food — though given their societal status, food is typically delivered to them, so the guardian rarely strays far.
Considering the general animosity among members of this species — and the fact that they could harm the young — only those who truly wish to raise them are appointed as guardians. There aren’t many such individuals, so this role usually falls to priests or a few other willing losgwaears.
After a few months spent closely with their guardian, the young begin to be taught how to live independently. The guardian now starts to leave more often and stay away for longer periods, so new sources of warmth must be found. There are several options. Some young losgwaears huddle together in small groups, which can sometimes strengthen their bonds. As a result, tensions between generations may lessen significantly in the future — or even disappear entirely. Others avoid this and choose to stay near warm patches of earth in floor openings.
As they grow older, each one receives their own room, where they can choose their preferred sleeping spot — either in a warm pit or in thermal springs, which are the most commonly chosen.
