“People are staring” | Pinkray of ONER

Best friend requested this one. It was slightly rushed so the quality isn't great but hope you like it regardless!

Basically fluff/angst? When you gotta hide your relationship.

Your eyes focused on the red circle prominent on the hanging calendar in the corner of your dim apartment. Tomorrow marked your year anniversary with Minghui and, while it should result in nothing but happiness, you couldn’t stop your heart from aching at the thought. You were his secret and, out of the companies fear of anyone finding out about your relationship, he was yours.

“Why can’t you just tell us who you’re dating? Are they real? You aren’t getting any younger” your family and friends nagging words haunted your thoughts. You wanted to tell them, you wanted to tell everyone. You knew that Minghui also struggled- he wanted to be able to go out and hold hands, kiss in front of everybody. You also knew, however, how complicated the situation keeping that from being a reality was.

A light knock on the door was what finally halted your racing thoughts. For a moment, all of your worries evaporated at the sight of Minghuis face, but only for a moment. Habitually, he bent down a bit to place a quick gentle kiss against your lips before saying a quiet “hello beautiful.”

At this point in your relationship, he was quick to make himself at home, as it was practically his apartment as well- despite almost never sleeping there because of rules set by his company. Your gaze followed his movements as he planted himself on the couch and opened his arms as an invitation for you to join him. Of course, you had no complaints and found yourself in his arms quickly. After a bit of discussion about his day, a question that plagued your thoughts and emotions spilled from your lips without much contemplation.

“What would everyone say if they saw us together right now?” you mumbled, free hand drawing shapes anxiously onto the back of his soft hand that held yours loosely. He raised an eyebrow, not entirely sure how that question came up, and you couldn't help but to notice a bit of pain in his expression. “I love you and I know that you love me… but I can’t be seen with you” you continued, as it seemed as though he did not have an answer for you.

His eyes carefully looked over your features, which couldn’t hide the fact that you were upset. “I hate that I’m hurting you…” he mumbled, barely audibly, as he made eye contact with you that held so much emotion.

“You’re worth it all” you said, breaking eye contact and snuggling into his side. He let out an exasperated sigh and held you tightly, resting his head on top of yours.

“I want everyone to know your mine” he started, pausing briefly to organize what he wanted to say. “I hate seeing people flirt with you, not knowing your taken. I want the world to know that we love each other…” he trailed off.

“But it isn’t that easy” you matched his earlier sigh, staring at his hand as you played softly with it. There was silence for a moment, which was definitely not comfortable. It wasn’t the first time you two had a conversation such as this, but it had been awhile, as you had both come to terms with it- or you acted as if you did.

“Run away with me” he moved slightly to look into your eyes once more, showing that he was genuine. You scoffed slightly, not willing to acknowledge that he would absolutely be willing to do such a thing.

You turned to face him and reached a hand up over his shoulder and let your fingers tangle into the bird's nest of hair on the back of his head. How anyone could look at you with so much love baffled you constantly. “I would never- ever- make you choose between me or your career. Singing is your dream, Yue.”

“You know that I would always choose you. You are part of that dream now” he sighed, rubbing your thigh with his thumb as you were practically curled up in his lap at this point, legs swung across his waistline. “You are… undoubtedly the most important thing in my life and I would happily lose everything for you” he whispered. At his words, you allowed yourself to rest your head on his chest.

“I wouldn’t ask you to” you replied softly, tracing his tattoos with your eyes.

“Yes… but I want to hold you closely always” he hummed in response. “Oh!” he exclaimed, startling you. Your eyes followed his finger that pointed towards the clock that hung on your wall. It was midnight. “Happy anniversary my love” he smiled before kissing you gently. You melted into the kiss immediately, a squeal escaping you as he pulled you onto his lap to straddle him.

“I know you’ll get in trouble for it but please stay with me tonight” you breathed, stroking his cheek with your thumb as your face hovered slightly above his. A nod was all you needed to remove the space between you.

Minghui shoved the last bite of food off his plate into his mouth that was still almost full, causing you to giggle. It made you happy to see him eat well but you also didn’t want him to choke. “Are you gonna eat that?” he asked, motioning to the rest of your food that you hadn’t touched in the last couple minutes. Without hesitation, as this was not unusual, you slid your plate over to him.

“Are we still going to the park where we met today?” you asked, knowing you wouldn’t get a proper answer right away. He nodded before swallowing, finally finishing the food.

“Lets go!” he smiled, standing up and walking to the door. You scrambled to follow, not expecting such a sudden departure. “Let’s walk there” Minghui insisted, to which you immediately shook your head.

“People will see us… why don’t you just drive us there” you scratched the back of your neck nervously in thought “or… wear sunglasses and a hat… maybe a mask” you couldn’t help but panic. Minghui had never suggested going out casually before.

“I don’t care who sees us” he said, resting his hands on your shoulders. “I love you and I am tired of hiding you” he smiled lovingly down at you. Opening your mouth to reply was pointless as he cut you off before you could say anything. “Nothing bad is going to happen baby, I promise” he ruffled your hair before bending down to tie his shoes.

You were a lot more hesitant. This was exactly what you had wanted but now that it was reality, you couldn't help but be concerned. “What if something bad happens? What if the fans…” you trailed off.

“We will get through it together” Minghui replied with a smile before practically pushing you out the door once your shoes were on. The two of you walked in silence for awhile before he couldn’t stand it anymore. “They would find out eventually anyhow. I plan to stay with you for the rest of my life” he said so casually but your heart seemed to stop in that moment. Instead, your feet stopped moving, halting the two of you.

As your eyes glossed over, the tall man brought you closer to him and wrapped his long arms around your body. You rested your head against his chest, trying your best to not cry on your first public outing with him. Eyes meeting a strangers, you realized you were being watched. You moved from Yue who immediately pulled you back into his arms.

“Wait. I want to hold you for a little longer” he held your head with one hand while the other was placed on your back firmly.

“People are staring” you murmured but Minghui didn't falter even slightly.

“Let them” he held you closer. He wanted the world to know you were his, and he was yours.
