Hey, I'm curious: which of the Sonic comics series is your favorite?

I’m still only on issue 43 of IDW, but that one takes the cake so far. Great art, great characterization, interesting plots, heartfelt moments...and it’s hard not to love it as an Amy fan.

I’ve ranted about IDW plenty already, so for this post, I’ll instead focus on my second favorite: Ian Flynn and Tyson Hesse’s Sonic Mega Drive comics. Spoilers under the cut for those comics and a bit of The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, though I bet most Shadamy fans have scoured that game already. I’ll be answering the asks I got about it soon.

Mega Drive features classic Sonic, Tails, Amy, and Knuckles. It engages in what I affectionately refer to as “revisionist Amy history.��� Amy hardly ever starred in adventurous roles in the nineties when the classic counterparts were in use, save for Sonic the Fighters, but she’s been portrayed recently as if she’s always been a core member of the team who could defend herself to an extent, and I actually love that. Sonic Origins Plus is doing it soon, too, and it’s even more obvious in the Mega Drive comics. The characters are wholesome and lovable, too.

And it also features something I’ve been seeing more and more of lately: Tails being supportive of Amy and wanting her to be happy, regardless of who she winds up with. He’s up for Sonamy!

I’m getting off-topic, but I really love how supportive Tails has been toward Amy lately. He’s not Team Sonamy. He’s not Team Shadamy. He’s Team Amy, and that is wonderful.

Anyway, the Mega Drive comics are a gift. Be warned, though: they started under Archie’s ownership, so they’ll sadly never be completed. Two out of the three issues were completed. They’re worth reading, just don’t get too attached :’(

So I just saw a post from someone saying that Sonic movies 'don't need romance' and that they hope there isn't Sonamy in Sonic 4 because they, and I quote, 'don't want to see it'

I'm not even going into how saying something shouldn't be in media because they personally don't want it is a dumb take, I'm really sick of people acting like romance is something that automatically ruins things, or like romance is something that is being shoved down people's throats when actually romance is becoming more and more rare, especially in movies.

So let me just say this, and I say this as a hardcore Shadamy shipper

I hope Sonamy becomes canon in the Movie Universe, whether they go the classic route of Amy developing a crush on Sonic or if they flip things around and Sonic falls for her first, I really hope Sonamy is End Game. It's about time that after so much teasing and hints from SEGA and the stance of keeping it one-sided, and other Sonic media creating original characters to become Sonic's love interest while simultaneously pushing Amy to the background, Sonamy and Sonamy shippers deserve this, they deserve finally a version where they are properly canon, it's about time and the movies are perfect for that.

I've had a scenario in mind for a while now about what it would take for Sonic to finally own up to his feelings about Amy. And I think what it would take is...

Shadow.

Well, just plain jealousy and a fear of losing Amy before he even has her. But Shadow would be the best one to instigate it.

First, some headcanons about how they behave romantically:

Amy's maturing and spreading her wings. She's not moving on from Sonic, not really, but it's possible that she's starting to notice other guys. There's some hints in the Twitter takeovers that she may be developing some small interest in Shadow.

Sonic is clearly interested in Amy, and if you pay attention, he has been for a long time. What he's not interested in is marriage- at least, not yet. And Amy is clearly wifey material- she cooks, she takes care of people, she has a caring nature, she's protective, and she's extremely loyal. She's not someone you can use for a one-night stand, you take all of her or you risk shattering her into pieces. She's Sonic's friend, no matter what else he may feel about her, so he avoids any romantic interaction because he doesn't want to hurt his friend.

Meanwhile, Shadow is... not aro-ace, per se, I don't know what you'd call him. He can see that Amy is attractive, but so is Rouge, and Shadow has no interest in Rouge. He just isn't interested in the physical side of romance.

What I think it would take to get Shadow's attention is something deeper, an emotional or spiritual connection.

So here's the Sonamy/Shadamy love triangle scenario that I came up with:

As Amy ages, she feels her desire for male companionship growing stronger. Sonic takes little notice of it, but it doesn't escape Shadow's attention.

Somehow or other, Shadow and Amy end up alone together, probably on a mission or something. I haven't figured out the exact circumstances, but they're together for quite a while. Amy loves to talk to people and get to know them, and Shadow has a soft spot for her, so she's able to get him to talk to her about things that he's probably never told anyone before. And he knows she won't tell anyone about them, either, so he feels safe telling her.

At some point, Shadow realizes, she's done it. She's broken through his barriers, and at the same time, she's calmed the storm of emotions that he's had swirling inside him for 50-odd years. He hasn't felt such peace since... no, not even then. This is something else. He's never felt this way before, and he doesn't have the words to describe it, but he's fallen head over heels for her.

This is why he never lets his guard down, even around the people he trusts most. Because if he lets them in, even a little bit, he might let them in too far. ("Can you see all of me, walk into my mystery, step inside and hold on for dear life.")

He loses control of himself and kisses Amy.

And when he lets go, he instantly hates himself, he starts throwing his barriers back up, because... she's crying. She's crying because she liked it, and she wants more of it, but she's still so desperately in love with Sonic, and she's starting to think she'll never get it from him, so she'll accept affection from just about any man, and it's not like Shadow's unattractive, and, and, and...

So Shadow's raw and open and hurting, he knew before he said or did anything that he was going down a dangerous path, but talking to Amy felt so good he didn't want to stop. And he wants to erase what just happened like it never did. But now he has to be the one to comfort Amy, because this was his fault, Amy was just being the kind and compassionate person she always was and Shadow was an idiot for letting it get to him and making more of it than what it was and losing control. So he has to keep his barriers down for just a moment longer, just long enough to hold Amy and tell her it's not her fault, until her tears finally stop.

It leaves Shadow burning with rage, and as soon as he can, he forcefully confronts Sonic (I imagine Shadow slamming Sonic against a wall or a tree and shouting in his face 😝) and basically tells him, "Amy needs attention from a man, she wants that man to be you, but if you can't grow up and do what it takes, then I'll be more than glad to take your place."

Which scares Sonic good and proper. It's bad enough to think that he could lose Amy, anyway, but to lose her to that faker??? And it finally makes him go to Amy and (very, very awkwardly) ask her to be his girlfriend. And... I'll let y'all imagine the rest.

As for Shadow... he, quite understandably, becomes somewhat aloof towards both Sonic and Amy for a long time after that.

But Shadow's immortal, right? And there's other Amy's in the world. He doesn't have to be alone forever.

Oh, and as for why Shadow would confront Sonic instead of just taking Amy for himself: because he respects both Amy and, especially, himself far too much to do that. He knows good and well she will never be able to fully commit to anyone else as long as Sonic is still an option. If Shadow was to start dating her, she'd go along with it, but it would become a power play between him and Sonic to try to "win" Amy's affections. Shadow has no issues with fighting Sonic over just about anything, but when it comes to his own feelings, he won't stoop that low, and he's not about to hurt himself by playing such a game. I also don't think he would view Amy as "a prize to be won."

My thoughts on sonamy, shadamy, sonadow that No one asked for

I do like Sonamy when it's done with genuine respect and that deep feeling of love for each other. They've been through it all and stuck up for each other. I really like Amy's new outlook on spreading love to the world, by being herself and the most supportive friend you know. And having that replace the overbearing obsession personality they made her have for like, too long. And Sonic now shows and even voices how he respects and even admires her. No longer actively avoiding her when their paths cross. When I see them shipped that's what I like to see.

Ok anyway they wouldn't be my preferred ship anyway. In like a totally fandom/fanfiction way their ideals on relationships just don't match. Sonic is not going to slow down even for Amy, and I just don't like versions of her that will "wait for him". She deserves better!! 😭😭😭 She deserves the love and attention she yearns and I can only imagine neither of them betraying their ideals like that. So... Sonamy.... Very cute but not the best and wouldnt last.

Now when you have Shadow. Here's the thing. I see him as truly, undoubtedly, able to be in either situation.

With Sonic, Shadow is the only person that would ever be able to keep up with him. And have no need to "slow down". In the version where he loves Sonic I don't even think he'd have that thought . Why would he. They are perfectly able to be free together. The witty banter, the competitiveness, the one upping. Just their way of flirting and showing love.

And if it's Amy he's in love with, Shadow is 💯% able and willing to stay in place just for her. He can't believe someone has that genuine kindness, along with her fierceness when she's ready to bring it on! Amy could be her loving self, and Shadow would take it all in. Her ability to be compassionate and understanding, we know are traits Shadow admires the way we know he is able to stay by someone's side. I can see Amy so happy with someone she can spend time with, share her hobbies with, and gets along with so well. She already sees the side of Shadow many people don't, even when he's trying to hide it. But the way his walls can fall just around her I just know they could find love and happiness together.

I hope you can tell my bias and I absolutely have 0 expectations of any Shadamy and Sonadow actual cannon happening. This is like, specifically what these ships would be like in the stage play my brain makes up.

And of course, you can't leave out polycule shipping. Personally it's not a ship I have specific interests in, but the ensuing hijinks that come from it are so sweet/hilarious I openly welcome seeing.

Thinking about Shadow X Rouge and Shadow X Amy ships, while I love both of them, one thing that I have a feeling is that the person who is more likely to end up with Shadow is dependent on how many troubles Shadow is facing.

Rouge is one of Shadow's first allies and, quite honestly, the one who will always by his side. Every time there's something threatening either Rouge or Shadow, they ALWAYS have each other's back. They spend the most time around each other when they need to support each other.

Which is not frequent, given how self reliant they usually are, but if anything seems to creep out of their scope, they immediatly go to each other.

However, Rouge is very wary of Shadows boundaries to the point she doesn't reach out to him unless the situation demands, seeing him as a perpetually grumpy person she cares about, but feels there are some limits in how far she can reach.

Amy, on the other hand, is someone who shadow rarely associates while in moments of distress, but if we're to take their interactions outside of the main games as any hint, Shadow adores spending times of peace with her. But anything goes wrong, while he (seemingly) doesn't doubt amy's strenght of character, he seems to not want to involve her in anything he's doing.

But as far as Amy's initiative go, she sees the positivity in Shadow that even he doesn't acknowledge it, so she's the one always inviting him to do things, despite his grumpy reputation and Shadow, to everyone's surprise, says yes.

Based on these things, if any of these ships were to happen, they way I see it is:

After some grueling times together facing a lot of conflicts, Rouge and Shadow keep relying on each other and bond even further and Rouge, perhaps in a moment of needing emotional reassurance, asks Shadow to be with her more permanently. Shadow, autisticly coded emotionally avoidant as he is though feeling very much the same, agrees. It's a genuine relationship between two people who have a hard time talking about their feelings in earnest, but would face hell and heaven to keep each other safe and quite possibly, happy.

After a prolonged time of peace, Amy continues spending time with Shadow. They keep going out and having fun and she gradually keeps sneaking into Shadow's heart. Shadow loved Maria for her enthusiam and her forwardness. These are qualities Shadow doesn't have, but greatly admires and seeing those in Amy it's hard to imagine him not having any fondness towards her. Sonamy's incessant "will Sonic finally confess to amy" debate aside, Shadow is not one to openly handle his feelings, but I feel, blunt as he is, there would come a treshold where either he would awkwardly spit something out or would kind of always support amy no matter what, conveying his affection to her non-verbally until SHE said something to him first, which then would force him to verbally acknowledge his feelings as well.

TL;DR: Despite not thinking any ship will happen, if you ask me, whichever ship would happen first would depend on how much shit Shadow is thrown through: A lot leads to Shadouge, a little leads to Shadamy.

Comfort: a mini story

Shadamy

Dusk had fallen, the stars glistened above and Shadow took his nightly stroll beneath them. Serenity surrounded him whilst doing so. It reminded him the positive memories of Maria. The way the world didn't seen to be on fire. Also how the twinkling lights mimicked the ones that glistened in her eyes.

Nearly pushing back on his "air shoes" heals, slowing down to a rushed halt. Breathing in deeply from the rush, but also because of the hint if pink hue rushing to his cheeks. One hand over his mouth before moving to cover the entire face. Groaning a bit in annoyance.

It only just started crossing his mind that the ultimate life form may also experience the more...positive emotions of the heart just as strong as his drive to fight? The irony of it all. But it happened. For whatever reason, she smiled more at him. Giving quick glances before biting her lower lip whilst looking away. Listening do attentively and was there when he was out of commission from field work, mostly due to injuries during a fight.

Adoration couldn't begin to describe how much he loved seeing her little mannerisms. The way she hummed a song absent mindedly, he cherished her voice. Put him to sleep a few times and even calmed him down because of it. Not to mention her leadership skills at the resistance, attention to detail in every plan, strategic and her strength was something that nearly rivaled his own. It was otherworldly.

His communicator signaled a small message that elicited him to quickly hurry back. Upon knocking at the door, was met with a very smiling yet shivering Amy Rose.

"Good to see you here."

"...You're shivering." Amy sighed before side stepping and gesturing for him to come inside.

"My water heater isn't working properly. It's been lukewarm for the entire weekend. I'll manage though." Patting the couch seat next to her and in front of the fireplace. Shadow walked over,casually gripped the blanket from a nearby chair without a glance. Wrapping it around them both and gently opening his arms for her.

"Let me at least help you warm before you sleep." He grumbled as Amy smiled and gingerly leaned in snuggling up next to him for warmth. Subconsciously humming a bit as he rubbed her arms amd shoulders.

"Thznk you" She breathed before soon falling asleep. Shadow smirked before leaning back, Amy still in arms as he himself drifted off to sleep.

Here’s my opinion on some of my favorite Sonic ships. I don’t have a controversial ship here, sorry not sorry.

Surgamy: Look, I really like ships about a nice and loving person with a someone who is the opposite. And Surgamy is just that but the goodest. The moment I saw people ship it, I saw the potential immediately, and it just flourish even further. This might be my only Amy ship that I full time ship all times. Sorry Sonamy, Blazamy, Shadamy, Metamy, etc shippers, I like this one more. Sunshine/grumpy Sapphics go hard.

Shadamy: Alright admittedly this isn’t my FAVORITE Shadow and Amy ship, I don’t even fully ship it. But I get it now. I used to think people who shipped this was the cringiest part of the fandom. BUT I SAW THE LIGHT AND THE POTENTIAL AND I AM ON BORED. I mean, kinda… I still see them more as friends. But yo, anytime I see y’all make ship art or something, i’mma be like “Yo dog I get it. Sunshine and grump, that shit go hard!”

Metamy: METAMY SHIPPERS PLEASE CALM DOWN! I haven’t stopped shipping them, it’s just the fire has died down. I just, started to see them less as a couple potential and just more as friend potential. Like, I just think the idea of Amy, being the ultimate friend maker she is being besties with a clone of her crush that has to kill her like 20 times while he’s going through a existential crisis is cute, funny, and full of potential that doesn’t have to be romantic. And I’ve just started to see them in more of that light.

Knuxrouge: According to the shipping wiki this is one of the more popular ones, and this is one of the only BIG ones I actually ship fully. IDK dog, I just think it’s cute and funny when a character’s reaction to be flirted with is “W…W…Women pretty.” They be cute.

Bigfinite: BLAME THIS ON @bbgatile 1000%. For those who don’t know, they made a bunch of crackship art a few years ago, which they now since deleted, which please don’t hate them for its their art, they can do what they want with it, if you want to find it, just google the ship name on google you’ll find some reblogs. But I saw that shit and I’ve loved this pairing to death since. I love dog/cat pairings! I love calm/extreame pairings! I love villains/that one side character pairings! It’s just a good ship and it’s BULLSHIT that there is only like 4 works of it on AO3. Best believe my next STH fic is gonna be about them.

Whispangle: Do I even need to say anything? Pretty sure this shit practically IS canon! Whatever! Lemur and Wolf sapphics goes hard AF.

Shadknux: This like my only Shadow ship. I think this is real good soup. Although, if I had a preference, I prefer the Boom! Iteration of this ship more. IDK Dumb himbo with enough Twink is extremely cute. I really like these two. I admittedly don’t read a lot of Sonic fics, but I wanna know if there’s some good ones with this pairing.

Jetilver: I understand why one wouldn’t ship them together, but I think the idea of Silver learning how to ride extreme gear, even though he can fucking fly, cute. And listen, these two is just a gay middle school couple to me. Jet is a closeted gay teen who is CONVINCED they are straight, and they just wanna be seen as cool but they come off as cringe. And there’s Silver who is just openly himself and can probably blow you up with his mind yet he finds Jet riding on extreme gear and finds it rad as shit. They cool and cute, and they deserve more attention.

In the "everyone ships shadamy" headcanon, which character do you think ships them the most and which ships them the less?

Regarding who ships them the most, one might assume I’d say Sonic, Rouge, or Cream, as they’re the ones who appear most often; Sonic loves it when his friends are happy, Rouge is thrilled Shadow is interested in dating for once, and Cream’s an idealistic yet grounded little sister who cares about Amy and wants to see her with someone who’s capable of the same level of devotion and commitment as Amy is. I love writing them this way.

However, I wouldn’t actually put any of them at the top of the heap because I can think of reasons why each one could object to it.

Some speculate that Sonic would get jealous. I don’t, but I do see him as someone who knows how dangerous and rash Shadow is. This goes for a lot of characters. We know Shadow’s gentle around Amy, but we’ve seen their hug and the ARK connection in SA2, the possibility of her turning him around in ShTH, the TMOSTH scene where Shadow gave Amy a sweet gift and agreed to go to a silly concert with her, etc. Sonic hasn’t seen that soft spot. Amy was helpless when Sonic met her and for a long time afterward, so he might hang onto that concern on some level and feel cautious about her spending time with Shadow, especially because of how naïve Amy is. Sonic knows Shadow’s ultimately a good guy, but Amy’s seen a side of him that no one else has. I wouldn’t anticipate open hostility from Sonic, but he might worry on some level.

Rouge didn’t always get along with Amy. She understandably saw Amy as an immature child for a long time, and she looked down on Amy and messed with her. They get along now, but they still have their differences, and Rouge cares a ton about Shadow. I could see her getting protective if she has reason to believe Amy could be frivolous and break his heart.

I think Cream mostly doesn’t like s0namy because of how lopsided Amy and Sonic’s feelings are and because Amy loses her head when it comes to romance. If she doesn’t think Shadow reciprocates and doesn’t register how different the shadamy dynamic is, she might dislike it for the same reason. Cream’s wise for her age, but Shadow’s hard to read.

(For the record, I think all three of them would come around pretty quickly once they actually saw how Shadow and Amy acted as a couple. That’s usually how it goes for Sonic fans in general, after all.)

This is why I actually think Vanilla would ship them the most. I don’t write headcanons about her too often because she’s a minor character, but I honestly can’t see any reason she’d object to shadamy. Vanilla’s probably the closest thing to a mom Amy has, so she has a vested interest in seeing her happy. She has Cream’s gentle supportiveness, but with the wisdom and experience of adulthood, I imagine she could understand the big picture and realize how good the two of them are for each other. The best headcanon I have explaining this is here.

As for who ships them the least, a lot of people put Knuckles in that role as a big brother figure for Amy. I think that’s tenuous, though. He just doesn’t stand up for her in that regard. I don’t know about anyone else, but I can’t think of a single time he’s seriously chewed Sonic out for treating Amy poorly. The closest you’ll get is him sarcastically saying things like, “Are you playing with that girl’s heart again, Sonic?” in Heroes and poking fun at him later. But he’s clearly joking when he says that, and he ran away from her along with Sonic constantly back in the day just like Tails did.

(Side note: this is something that really, really bothers me about his character. You’re the oldest, Knuckles. Do better!)

It is possible he leaves Sonic alone about it because s0namy is a “safe” avenue for Amy’s affections; Sonic is one of his closest friends and Knuckles knows he’s ultimately a solid guy, and given that Sonic hasn’t shown interest in an actual relationship, things wouldn’t go very far between the two. Shadow, on the other hand, has been at odds with Knuckles and the others before, and like Sonic, Knuckles has never seen the soft spot Shadow has for Amy.

I still think it’s more likely that Knuckles would trust Amy’s judgment and stay hands-off, but he could potentially show some hostility. This headcanon is how I explain it.

If you ask me, the biggest opponent to the pairing...would be Doctor Eggman. If Shadow and Amy had kids, Eggman’s chances for world domination would be kaput in ten to fifteen years. Even if they never did or the child didn’t have any of their abilities, the possibility would ruin Eggman’s blood pressure, which is even funnier.

A Step Ahead || SHADAMY ONESHOT

When Shadow instinctively saves Amy before Sonic can, she’s left flustered by his effortless strength—while he’s left quietly puzzled by the lingering warmth of her gratitude.

Explosions rocked the battlefield as Sonic and his friends fought against Eggman’s latest mechanical menace. The towering war machine fired energy blasts wildly, forcing Tails to swerve in the Tornado, while Knuckles leapt from one crumbling platform to another, looking for an opening. Amy, hammer in hand, darted between the chaos, looking for her own chance to strike.

"Take this!" she shouted, swinging her Piko Piko Hammer at one of the machine’s legs. Sparks flew as it dented the metal, but the mech barely stumbled.

"Amy, watch out!" Sonic’s voice rang out, but before she could react, the ground beneath her trembled. A massive energy blast struck the bridge she was standing on, shattering it into pieces.

Amy gasped as she lost her footing. The world tilted, and suddenly, she was falling.

For a moment, panic seized her chest. The battlefield stretched far below—too far. She squeezed her eyes shut, bracing for impact.

Then, without warning, the wind shifted. A streak of black and red cut through the air.

Before she even realized what had happened, she was no longer falling. Instead, strong arms wrapped around her, pulling her close against something firm and steady.

Amy’s breath hitched.

"Shadow?"

He didn’t answer. He barely even looked at her, his red eyes locked on the battle as if saving her had been nothing more than a reflex. His grip on her was unwavering—one arm beneath her knees, the other supporting her back. He carried her effortlessly, as if she weighed nothing at all.

Amy’s face turned scarlet.

She wasn’t used to Shadow carrying her like this. Sure, Sonic had scooped her up in a princess carry plenty of times when rescuing her—but with Shadow, it was different. Rare.

There was something more intimate about the way he held her. The way his grip, though effortless, was firm yet careful. The way he unknowingly kept her so close, his touch surprisingly gentle despite his strength. It wasn’t just a means of saving her—it felt like more, even if he didn’t realize it.

She suddenly became hyperaware of everything—the warmth of his chest against her side, the way his fur bristled slightly against hers, the sheer strength in his arms.

"U-Uh…" she started, but her voice faltered.

Shadow finally glanced down at her, almost scanning her for injuries. "You're unharmed." It wasn’t a question, just a fact.

Amy nodded, unable to form words.

Below them, Sonic dashed across the battlefield, his gaze darting upward. He skidded to a stop as he spotted them.

"Amy—?!" His eyes widened. "Shadow?! You—?"

Shadow landed gracefully a few feet away from Sonic, still holding Amy as if it was nothing. He didn’t even acknowledge Sonic’s presence as he finally—finally—set her down.

Amy wobbled slightly when her feet touched the ground, her face still warm. "T-Thanks…" she mumbled, looking anywhere but at him.

Shadow merely gave a curt nod before turning back toward the fight, as if saving her had been a minor inconvenience.

Sonic folded his arms, raising an eyebrow. "Really? You swoop in and steal my heroic moment?"

Shadow glanced back at him, expression unreadable. "You were too slow."

Sonic sputtered. "Too slow?! I was literally—! Ugh, whatever."

Amy, still flustered, fidgeted with her gloves. Her heart was still pounding, and she didn’t know if it was from nearly falling… or from being carried like that.

Shadow, on the other hand, had already moved on, engaging the battle again as if nothing had happened.

Amy swallowed, trying to shake the feeling.

Why did he have to make it look so effortless?

Sonic nudged her with his elbow. "You good, Ames? You’re looking kinda… red."

"I-I'm fine!" she blurted, crossing her arms.

Sonic smirked. "Suuure. Y’know, usually I’m the one saving you."

Amy groaned, pushing past him. "It’s not a competition, Sonic."

"Uh-huh," he called after her, his tone teasing.

She huffed and focused back on the fight. She could worry about whatever that was later.

The battle ended not long after. Between Sonic’s speed, Knuckles’ raw strength, and Shadow’s precision strikes, the mech was reduced to a pile of smouldering scrap. Eggman, as usual, escaped, promising revenge as he vanished into the sky.

The team regrouped, catching their breath. However, Shadow stood a small distance away. Amy stole a few glances at him as her friends talked amongst themselves.

"Well, that was fun!" Sonic stretched, cracking his knuckles. "I say we celebrate with some chilli dogs."

Tails wiped his forehead, smiling. "I could go for that."

Knuckles grunted. "As long as I get extra."

Amy hesitated. Normally, she’d be all for hanging out with the team, but she had this nagging feeling in her chest—one she couldn’t ignore.

Shadow stood a few feet away, arms crossed, gaze fixed on the horizon as if the fight hadn’t even happened. He always seemed like he was waiting for something—or maybe just waiting to leave.

Amy hesitated, then took a deep breath and walked toward him.

"Hey," she said softly.

Shadow shifted his gaze to her, silent as ever.

"Good job today, you were uh... you were great, and I uh..." Amy stammered.

Shadow raised his eyebrow at her. He was not great in social situations, but even he could see the shy behaviour Amy was exhibiting.

She fidgeted with her glove and took a deep breath. "I just wanted to say… thank you... For saving me."

He didn’t react. "It was necessary."

Amy pouted. "You always say that."

Shadow blinked as if confused by her frustration. He only did what he found logical.

She sighed. "I mean, sure, it was necessary, but you chose to do it. You didn’t have to. Sonic would have gotten me if you hadn't."

Shadow considered this for a moment. Then, in his usual deadpan voice, he said, "Would you have preferred I didn’t?"

Amy groaned. "That’s not what I mean, Shadow!"

He stared at her, clearly not getting it.

Amy sighed, then tried again. Softer this time. "I guess what I’m saying is… it meant a lot that you rushed to save me. Even if you don’t think it was a big deal, it was to me."

Shadow was silent, his expression unreadable. But he didn’t dismiss her words.

Amy smiled a little. "So… thank you."

Then, before she could overthink it, she stood on her toes and pressed a light kiss to his cheek.

Shadow’s entire body went completely still.

Amy stepped back quickly, face burning. "I-I’ll see you around!" she blurted, turning on her heel and rushing back toward the others, who were already starting to leave.

Shadow remained frozen in place.

For a long moment, he just stood there, processing. His brain replayed what had just happened—Amy, close, her warm breath against his fur, the softness of her lips against his cheek.

Slowly, he reached up and touched the spot.

He didn’t understand feelings. He didn’t understand romance. He didn't even understand what she had meant by it.

But for the first time in a long time, he found himself standing in place, utterly thrown off balance.

And somehow…

He didn’t mind the feeling it gave him.

SHADAMY ONESHOT - In Your Heart

SHADOW THE Hedgehog was by far the least affectionate person he knew in his life. Everyone who had met him knew this too.

Hugging and comforting others wasn't his strong suit either; but he also had never quite cared enough to do such a thing for anyone since the passing of Maria anyway.

And though the mere thought of willingly wrapping his arms around someone to soothe the ache in their hearts mostly repulsed him—Shadow always made one certain exception to showing his hidden affection.

That exception’s name was Amy Rose.

“Come here.” Scooting into his side, the sobbing pink hedgehog rests her head on his shoulder as he warmly embraces her heaving body.

Caressing her quills with delicate, repetitive motions, Shadow sighed at the soft sound of her cries.

“It’s alright, Rose. I’m right here. Just let it out.” Whispering gently, he begins to rub small circles on her back. Amy sniffles against his neck.

After a few minutes, Amy finds herself curled up into Shadow’s lap without any more tears left to slide down her reddened cheeks. Shadow’s grateful for that.

And for what feels like an eternity, neither of the two hedgehogs say a word as they stay in the same position under a large oak tree. Staring forward with his chin on top of her head, Shadow watches the lake water glimmer under the now lowering sunlight before Amy glances up at him.

“Hey, Shadow?” Looking down, he blinks. “Yes, Rose?”

“Thank you. For staying to comfort me. It means a lot to me. More than you could imagine.”

At her words, Shadow’s muzzle grows increasingly warmer and he tears his eyes away from her jade-green ones.

“Y-Yeah. Any…anytime.” Amy’s lips curve upwards into a soft smile before she rests her face back against his neck.

And as the bubblegum-pink beauty slowly but surely falls into a gentle slumber in the ebony hedgehog’s arms, Shadow couldn't help but gaze up at the sky and think of his beloved lost friend.

Maria.

“Oh, Shadow; it’s going to be okay. I’m not leaving this soon, hm? You can't get rid of me that easily.” She said, her voice sweet and soothing as she caressed Shadow’s quills.

This action alone only made the hedgehog sob more into her tender arms, his own gently wrapping around her torso.

“P-Professor, he–he was talking about all of those awful possibilities and outcomes for you and I…I panicked. Maria, I was so scared. So scared that I was going to lose you.” He explained shakily, lifting his head up to meet her loving gaze.

Maria smiled, then squeezed his hands before sighing. “Shadow, you can't lose me. Remember what I told you?”

Out-stretching a finger towards his chest, she taps it two times. “No matter what happens—I will always be in your heart.”

CAREFULLY LAYING Amy down onto her flower-themed bed sheets, Shadow slowly grabs the blanket beside her and drapes it over her lower-half.

She moans lightly in content as she pulls it up to her chin and shifts her body to the side, eyes still closed and breathing steady.

Smiling, Shadow chuckles quietly before turning off her bedside lamp and heading towards the bedroom door. Yet, just as he turns to do so, a tug at his wrist stops him.

Glancing down, he sees Amy’s hand wrapped around his own as she coyly avoids eye-contact with the ebony hedgehog. “Can you…can you please stay? At least until I fall asleep?”

Shadow hesitates only for a moment before he ultimately nods in compliance. Amy shimmies over to the right side of the bed, leaving just enough space for him to lay.

Taking off his shoes and inhibitor rings, he sets them aside and lazily climbs onto the mattress beside the pink hedgehog. “Okay. But only until you fall asleep.”

A minute hadn't even passed before Shadow found himself fast asleep whilst hugging Amy’s torso.

And that night, in his dreams; Shadow knew that if Maria had survived—she would've loved the force of nature that was Amelia Rose.

"Whoever you meet down on Earth someday, Shadow; I know they'll have a good heart. Just like yours. And whenever I meet them too, I'm positive I'll love them. But not as much as I love you."

He smiled in his sleep, yeah. She really would.
