The only things I know about Catullus is that he called his lover in his poems Lesbia by choice and her actual name was Clodia and it used to be Claudia until some reverse adoption happened and her name got changed

#based only upon those facts and the fact that he is the only male Roman poet I know besides Vergil and Ovid he is my fav male Roman poet #I refuse to like Vergil because I wanna be edgy/j and I just dislike Ovid on principal #one of the questions at certamen today was like ‘he wrote this series about abandoned women in mythology such as Penelope and dido #who were abandoned by their husbands’ and it’s like. I’m pretty sure Penelope was very famously not abandoned and Didos husband got #straight up murdered like dude that’s just not what abandoning is #I mean I guess you can say dido was abandoned by Aeneas but did they ever marry and also her first one just straight up died #also Ovid just really hated authority figures so he realllyyyy put that on the gods in his stories #ovid can fight me #but yeah Catullus is my fav male one #fav in general is sulpicia my queen #she wrote 6 poems about teenage (probably I’m rusty on my sulpicia) love and then dipped #(Im aware she probably wrote more and we just haven’t found anything other than the 6 but it’s funnier to imsgine the first thing)#also one of them was basically just ‘I’m sick and my boyf hasn’t visited me yet so I should just die of being sick cuz he doesnt love me’#and that’s so real of her #ok back to your regularly scheduled programming #autism (mads) speaks
