i continue to be fascinated by pre-exile ollivan because with the exception of the jonas benn murder he really was guilty of everything he was accused of: the drugs, the stealing, the fighting, the cruelty, the arrogance. jasper might have made him worse but ollivan knew that he was going to from the moment they first met, and chose to befriend him anyway. cassia specifically describes the year after she came back from camden and before his exile as being ‘terrible’ on account of his behaviour. i think it’s really interesting that virgil specifically calls out ollivan’s temper as something that makes it difficult to care about him because while ollivan certainly gets angry and moody and goes off to sulk in wayward, it’s under the exceptional circumstance of the guysman incident/having his innocence question and not explosively bad enough to be worth commenting on. the ollivan we know in wayward doesn’t seem like he could be cruel enough to set the guysman trap, but clearly he was. i want to meet that ollivan desperately.
