King of cats & the possessed forest
Summary: Hawks had foreseen a thousand different ways for this night to go, but not once in any of those scenarios did he picture flying with Dabi through the air being chased by something that set off his prey instincts. He'd expected the night to be bad - why else would Dabi request a meeting two nights before one of the lesser conjunctions? As if the days before a full moon weren't bad enough on their own.
prompt: Cat, warm, fear
Tags: Pre-Relationship, Sort Of, Witch!Fuyumifolklore, adjacent nonhuman Dabi, nekomata!Dabi, angry lighting dogs, Hawks and dabi are in the wrong place at the wrong time, wacky hijinks, Folklore and quirks, what could go together better
-------------------------
The city seemed to thrum with the night, the lights pulsing slightly as the moon crept across the sky. Another a few days and all both of the moons would be aligned with some of the outer planets. It was driving the city mad and kicking up all sorts of figurative and literal storms. If Hawks had to deal with another ‘murder or animal sacrifice’ case with the police he was going to take that vacation time he had been threatening to use. By now he should have about two months of it saved up. Plenty to wait out this upcoming nightmare storm.
The city seemed to thrum with the night, the lights pulsing slightly as the moon crept across the sky. Another few days and all both of the moons would be aligned with some of the outer planets. It was driving the city mad and kicking up all sorts of figurative and literal storms. If Hawks had to deal another ‘murder or animal sacrifice’ case with the police he was going to take that vacation time he had been threatening to use. By now he should have about two months of it saved up. Plenty to wait out this upcoming nightmare storm.
A pack of cats darted across the street, slinking around the edges of the streetlamps. Hawks raised a hand in greeting, seeing several of the animals pause. Their strange heterochromatic eyes flashed in the dim light. Tails flicked in his direction, an almost wave from the clutter of cats, then they began to move on. Only one stayed behind, waiting until their companions were half a block away before it stood on its hind legs. Hawks grinned and waved harder. The cat dropped into an elaborate bow before falling to all fours and almost trotting to catch up to the others.
“It’s not wise to be on such familiar terms with Old Tom.” A voice rasped near Hawks’ elbow. He glanced down. At first glance, it looked like one of the cats from the pack, but he knew better than to assume he piebald at his heels was a member of that courtly clutter. This cat had something the others didn’t: a second tail that twined about the first one, occasionally untangling to lash back and forth.
“Dabi.” Hawks greeted, lifting a wing so the nekomata could curl under it. A moment later there was a sound like the echo of a sneeze and a tall, lanky young man sat under his wing. Hawks rolled his eyes and lifted it higher. He had been expecting a chat with the cat, not the man.
The man shot him a sharp smile and leaned into his space obnoxiously.
“Hawks.” Dabi purred back. “I’m serious, you shouldn’t be so friendly with the king of cats. The Tildrums and the Toldrums aren’t very nice.”
That caused Hawks to laugh, giving Dabi a gentle shove. He hoped it’d keep the cat out of his space a little longer, but all it seemed to do was goad Dabi into getting even closer. He felt claws digging into a shoulder as Dabi threw an arm around him.
“Neither are you, but I don’t mind your company.” Hawks replied. Part of him wanted to ask about the names the cats wore, if there was any significance to using the same four or six over and over again. He knew none of the kings were related to each other, so perhaps it was a title? Although he had known the current king of cats since they were a kitten (not that Dabi needed to know that), and they’d always had that name. Did cats come into this world already knowing their name?
Then again, Dabi was a nekomata, not a proper cat, so he might not know. Dabi let out a contemplative rumble, not quite a purr but also not a growl either, staring up at the moons above like Hawks had been doing before he’d gained company.
“How’s the rest of the colony?” Hawks finally asked. Dabi snorted, lip twitching up in an aborted snarl.
“Quit calling the league that.”
“Well, stop acting like a group of colony cats and I might.”
“I swear to the gods, Hawks- I will-” Dabi’s voice cut off as they were both illuminated in bright, almost yellow light.
Light arced in the near distance, dancing over rooftops and fracturing like lightning through cracked glass. Both Hawks and Dabi tensed, watching as it slowly coalesced into something vaguely dog-shaped. Bright eyes latched onto Dabi. Immediately the nekomata shifted back, skin melting back into fur, his hackles raised high. A low yowl starting up, sounding just as much like a cat as it did like something distinctly other. The creature was too far away to hear the warning, but it cocked its head as if it could.
Shit.
Raiju weren’t common here and if one was stumbling about, it was because something, or someone, summoned it. Hawks really, really hated conjunctions, be it of planets or starts or shot glasses.
Hawks made a split-second decision, scooping the nekomata up and taking flight, wings beating at the air as he tried to put as much distance between himself and the raiju. Dabi squirmed in his arms, claw digging into the leather of his gloves. He had gloves that rivaled a falconer’s glove, and still, he could feel Dabi puncturing them.
“What gave you the bright idea to fly?” Dabi spat, “It’s a creature of lightning, you idiot.”
“Yeah, and we’re squishy. If we stay over thirty feet up, we’re far enough up that lightning won’t hit us. Just, trust me firebug.” Hawks said, not paying attention to the way the nekomata squirmed in his arms. He wanted to give Dabi a snarky lecture on the fact that he had wings and had been flying since he was four - he knew more about the sky and the air and winds than Dabi did.
He didn’t, because those winds he knew so much about were picking up, no doubt the doing of the dog-thing chasing behind them in great leaps and bounds. It wasn’t flying after them, so it was either very young, very old, or injured.
He hissed as Dabi found purchase, climbing along his arms until he pulled himself onto Hawks’ shoulders, tucking himself between the collar of his jacket and Hawks’ neck, looking like a fancy scarf.
“Go left!” Dabi shouted in his ear, whiskers tickling his ears since his headphones were still around his neck. Hawks wasn’t sure what the fuck the stupid cat was talking about, left was-
Dabi bit his ear and he faltered, falling left just in time for something vaguely lightning-like to shoot past. The raiju.
Well, shit.
He flapped harder, deciding that yeah, sure, left was fine. Left was great.
They were only going to swap one problem for a different, potentially bigger problem. They were headed towards the cursed forest that had claimed one of the old school districts. The trees were nasty, snarled things, and only the desperate set foot there. The desperate or the foolish. No, nothing as simple as it being cursed or because that’s where the corrupt lived, no, but because the trees there were assholes. Why Dabi decided taking refuge there was a good idea, he didn’t have time to ask. It went against everything he knew about surviving storms and honestly, nesting in trees during lightning was one of the worst things to do.
“I hope you know what you’re doing!” Hawks shouted, tucking his wings close to his body and diving into the clearing beneath them. Branches whipped past, and he could feel several draw blood.
A gash opened up over one eye and he could feel leaves plaster to it, tiny roots already growing into his flesh. He tore at them, trying to keep from becoming a plant while also dodging the trunks and branches in their path.
Eventually, his luck ran out and a branch caught his foot, sending him tumbling through the air, then the branches, then finally the ground. The sudden stop left him wheezing and creaking, and if he came out of this without a broken rib he’d buy Dabi dinner.
The nekomata extricated himself from Hawk’s neck, seemingly unaffected by the trees or the fall as he shifted back. Fingers dug into his brow, pulling the leaves he couldn’t out and setting them on fire before tugging at Hawks’ arm, pulling to his feet. They took off deeper into the forest, the thin light of the city being consumed by the leaves and branches overhead, rendering Hawks entirely dependent on Dabi to guide them through the forest.
He came to a stop at the edge of what had once been a school. There weren’t any trees for about forty feet around the building, but where the branches had extended to their fullest, vines had jumped the distance. It was like walking under a tent entirely made of vines.
The air was thick with moisture and the unsettling stench of ozone. It sent the hair on the back of his neck prickling and the spare fur still on Dabi’s human form bristling.
The clearing lit up as something crashed through the vine canopy and Dabi pushed Hawks behind him. It irked Hawks greatly- between the two of them, Hawks should be the one puffing up and displaying against the dog. He was the hero and he had far more feathers to be intimidating. Dabi had little enough fur even as a cat and he was skin and bones in both forms. Not scary at all to most animals. Hawks spread his wings, two feathers ready as he watched the Raiju, waiting for Dabi to give any type of signal.
The Raiju didn’t look winded at all and its tongue lolled out of its mouth, head cocked to the side as it let out one of the creepiest sounds Hawks had ever heard. It was a croon run through a broken cassette tape. It set off every single prey instinct Hawks had, and judging by the way Dabi’s entire being seemed to puff up, the nekomata was similarly affected.
“Sooner would be better!” Dabi hissed. Hawks wasn’t sure who the fuck he was talking to, but then again, he didn’t really need to ask as a second later a tree came crashing down on top of the raiju, vines and branches and leaves wrapping around it until it was encased in a ball of mud-coated roots that was slowly sinking into the ground.
“Shit.” Hawks breathed out, leaning against Dabi’s back as he caught his breath, his arms and wings falling to his side. Dabi slumped against him, and together they held each other up as they waited for the muddy ball to sink fully under the ground.
A throat cleared to their right, and a disheveled young woman stood, an old-fashioned hurricane lantern in one hand, her other hand clutching a shawl to her shoulders. She had pale hair and red streaks in it and she looked as if she had just woken up.
“Evenin’.” She yawned, “You boys want to come in and get warm?”
“Who?” Hawks asked quietly to Dabi. Dabi shifted, trying to avoid looking at Hawks.
“Yeah, ‘Yumi. I think we will. Sorry for crashing here.” Dabi said, tone soft and as polite as Hawks had ever heard. The young woman waved off his words, then gestured with the same hand. The root of a nearby tree pulled up, showing a tunnel lit with glowing mushrooms beneath it.
“Come on. It’s warmer underground and I’m sure the harpy has questions.” She yawned again and started down the tunnel. Hawks frowned, irked at her words. He wasn’t a damned harpy. Still, she looked oddly familiar and he couldn’t place where he’d seen her face before.
Dabi started after her, pausing to look behind at Hawks. Feline ears flickered into existence and they flattened. If Hawks had to place the expression, he’d say that Dabi was… embarrassed? Nervous?
“You coming, pretty bird? Fuyumi won’t keep the door open all night, and I’d rather not test my sister’s patience before she’s had coffee.”

Across the sky’s canvas, once a seamless blue, dissolves into the kindling tones of fire, overtaking the cool shade in place of the gentle orange. Revered beacon of primordial mythologies, disc of blazing yet not forever burning flames, departs from its throne and returns from the unknown hidden in the horizon, languorous in its descent. Succeeding to the throne soon would be the guide of the night, illuminated by its predecessor and embracing their light, it was celestial-half to their solar-half. Intertwined similarly by the universe’s convention of intrinsic natural laws, the Earth shifts itself in a dance between one and the other, joining in a dance that created day and night, which ultimately ruled the dimensions of time.
Zephyrs greet the grassy knoll, the English oak cumbrous yet its thin leaves and branches join together like in song by rustling, chiming, and whistling; the freshest and untouched blades of grass swaying along to a collective melody; and completing it was the wind itself, providing its lyric soprano. Nature’s orchestra, ever-present yet ever-fluctuating to every instance of change on the planet by civilizations, creatures, and even the smallest organism that hadn’t realized the picture. All that now dormant, awake, fading, and emerging, all had its seat in the symphony, despite the implications of current or incoming absences. No section in the orchestra was ever truly empty, for their mark would always be felt.
Beholder of ritornelle had been none other than the sorceress. Ashy silver reveals itself in any natural lighting, evidence of old age only apparent by the brighter, longer strands of white hidden between the soot-shaded locks. Peculiarity was her specialty. Never confound to the boundaries and regulations of temporality, all she played now was both observer and guide, spending much of her unestimated time and forgotten purpose as life’s recorder and preserver.
Lonesome in where she stands, the winds embrace her body and caress her flesh, her hair swaying in the wind, and the length of her skirt following in similar motion. Eventide oft returned the spectacles of the past in her blurred memory, only glimpses and traces of before-times and when all of that hadn’t occurred. If only the remains of whoever she was before, she was still a forthright, active vessel that wouldn’t stop. Her hands slowly flex and curl, the left one notable with the gauntlet she has on.
However, her loitering wasn’t purely out of sentimental reason.
Across the horizon was an obscured figure, one flying lower than the clouds and darting with a spiral motion. The sorceress slowly raises her forearm, humming to herself. The bird’s wings spread, diving into her general direction, before whizzing over her shoulder, a feather barely brushing against her cheek. She clicks her tongue, rolling her eyes. What a show-off.
Around roundabout in the orange sky before a new weight perched on top of her arm-guard. To the trained eye, it was a northern goshawk who’d landed. A hearty huff left the left before a low screech greeted her. She couldn’t help but giggle, raising one brow at the confidence exuded from such a creature. Full-breasted snow-white feathers ruffled, revealing traces and thin streaks of charcoal gray on his bosom.
“Tam Lin, goodness, look at you. Were you deciding that it’s about time you impressed me or had you some good news for me?” The hawk shuffled across on the gauntlet, sharp talons digging into the material, but he was relatively calm. She, in turn, nods. “I hadn’t expected to news about your nest. Oh, that many already on the way. You’re going to need to expand a bit more to fit in all those eggs. How is Janet doing, by the way?” The conversation, while audibly one-sided, went on as she couldn’t help but politely cover her lips when laughing, to then nod enthusiastically, and watch intently as Tam Lin had several gestures, sounds, and head tilts in turn.
“With all that catch-up done, I would be needing this..” The corners of her lips quirk up, glancing at Tam Lin’s left leg, where a rusted clip could’ve been spotted with a rolled-up paper. She gently removes the note and tucks it into the pocket of her apron. “As for your pay,” her right-hand pats round around the waistband of her dress. Still smiling, there was a nervous infringement in it, the longer she spent trying to find something for Tam Lin. Her brows furrow, eyes glancing down, “Fluffen your auriculars that way you don’t hear my improperness, Tam Lin. But, damn it..”
“Let’s take care of that.” The sorceress raises her hand, quick to flick it in the air, as out of nowhere. In the palm of her hand was revealed to be a small white mouse, one that has long since passed. It wasn’t the most delectable that she could’ve summoned, but it wasn’t meant to be appetizing for her. Tam Lin’s golden-orange eyes were already locked onto the vermin, only once looking to the sorceress who held it. “Alright, at 3...”
“1....” She slowly lowers her right hand, keeping the left arm stable for the hawk  “2....” She closes her right hand into a soft fist, keeping an eye on Tam Lin. “3!” She throws the mouse forward, into the air and past the hill’s incline. Without a moment’s notice, Tam Lin had already taken off, living up to his species’ pride as he already gouged his claws into his prey.
“Good, good...” The woman’s eyes were set on the hawk, already taking itself to fly and perch on the English oak behind her. However, she took the time to remove the gauntlet from her hand and tuck it away into the deep pockets of her apron. Her attention, however, changes shortly to the note curled in her hands as the hawk was already taking the time to feast on its reward.
“Now, onto the whatever is going on now..” She unrolls the paper with one hand, squinting at the fine inked print. Though, as she was already beginning to read the first line -- what constituted as the ‘orchestra,’ as she named it, returned. Being as attuned to both life and reality, there were moments that her gift engaged with realities past her own; given that she wasn’t technically bound to any after a certain stage of her magic’s development, it hadn’t been unusual. Most were like frequencies that dipped in and out, like static on a radio that couldn’t be properly tuned as it crossed across the cosmos and each universe had its own set of rules.
“What is..” Her hand slowly raises to her neck. From the front of it, there was a throbbing and ebbing annoyance that came. She reacted not to it, rather, she was unphased and resilient to these kinds of pain at her age. However, what was more interesting was the implications that her form was feeling something -- something otherworldly but linked backed to herself. Ah, that’s it..
She clears her throat, taking herself now to look up to the sky; in the not so far distance, as the exchange between sun and moon played for the throne, it was that the moon was rising in its crescent-shape.

My ocs for BNHA
I have like so many fucking ocs with so many different quirks its hard to keep track some times i may talk a lot about them. I wanna share them xD ive got
Usagi who has an ice quirk (she was my first one for BNHA) so her quirk is black ice with purple speckles (based of obsidian in minecraft) in it and its pretty more durable than normal ice. But if she uses it too much, her wrists, ankles and neckstart to frost. She tends to use her ice with her martial arts she learned. Cuz when she was younger she thought martial arts was very beautiful and wanted to learn it.
KĂĄra whos got a medical creation quirk, she is obessed with Izuku and has known him sincechildhood and has said shes gonna marry him from like age 5. She comes off as obessive towards Izu. But like she just wants him happy. Even if its with someone else. She always going between sizes as her quirk works like Momos, but she can only create medical related stuff. Like one day she could be a size 18 (this is UK sizing btw) then after doing hero training shell end up a size 14-16. She eats a lot of food. I like to make her intern with fatgum cuz of this. Shes also got a very good memory. So she doesnt need a book with her like momo. Plus since her creation is limited she can decide what to make. She makes a lot of scalpels and uses then like throwing knifes. And cuz her mums side of the family is from norway. Her name is a of a valkyrie, shes decided her hero name is gonna be Valkyrie. Cuz why the fuck not.
Lisette whos got a strengh based quirk, she helps Aizawa teach 1A and her hero name is Helsing. She has such a huge sex drive tho. And has broken her bed more times then shed like to admit. Shes also English and Japanese. Her dad was British and her mums Japanese. Shes also got a cute pastel calico three legged kitty named Tripod. Aizawa may or may not be seen napping with tripod inbetween classes
Ive got two that have brain washing quirk, one happens to be shinsous twin called Hitomi and has the same limits as shinsou. And is in general studies. She wants to be a hero like Shinsou because everyone saying their quirk is suited for villians. She just wants to prove them wrong because pissed her off. But she doesnt look as dead as shinsou.
The other one is named Rosalina she needs eye contact and a vocal reply but shes a trained as a paediatric doctor after she found out she was infertile and started a new life in japan cuz her boyfriend dumped when it was found out she cant have kids. She ends up working with eri a lot
Athena who has dragon summoning (one of her dragons is totally in love with toshi. Its funny af. The drsgon whos called Rosie will let out a happy screech and go to toshi for fussing and cuddles and just wrap her self around his neck and whine if she has to leave) Shes greek and uses her name as her hero name. She actually keeps crime down pretty well in greece as noone wants to fuck with someone who is named after the goddess of wisdom and war. Which is a family thing as all first born children end up with a mark from a god or goddess and they have to have that as her name. She got Athenas owl and olive branch on her arm. I pair her with toshi and they end up with a little girl that has the mark of a really really low level god thats name is Nana. Class 1A love little Nana. Nana gives everyone nicknames if they have a hard name to say, Bakugo is Boom boy, iida is zoom zoom. Denki is called pika. Mina is called Pinky. Ochaco is called kitty. Cuz nana thinks her hands are cat paws. Nana adores bakugo tho. And tries to make him have nap time with her. So some classes hes sat there with Nana asleep on him cuz she starts crying if shes moved. Nana will cry if monama from 1B gets too close. Rest of class 1B is fine. She likes the mushroom girl and tetsu.
Ive made one whos hawks little sister called Evie, her feathers are a lot stronger than Hawks but she is so much slower than him. Like Iida is faster than her(she has the biggest crush on endeavour tho and has searched online for a replica of his dick. Tho weve given Hawks the name of Jacob because he reminds us a little of Jacob frye from assassins creed syndicate. Itll change of course when Hori gives us his name) if. Im rping with my friend shes in 1A. And because of. Peoples head canons with hawks. She has bird habits. Like sometimes she sees a rodent shell go for it and someone has to go to her and make her drop it. I based her wing colors off a red kite. (where i live we have a lot of them. Ive seen seven to ten at one time flying in an area near the windmill we have in the village. We also know where one couple of red kites nest is.) shes also good friends with tokoyami and she tried to tell "for fuck sake do not intern with hawks. Hes only doing it because you and him would make a full bird" he didnt believe her
Reiko whos a kitsune whos my friends ocs and endeavour secert love child, shes got all the physical attributes of a kitsune (expect every ten years she gains a new tail instead of the every 100 years. So she only got one single tail atm) but a mix of kitsune fire and endeavours hell fire. And for now if she uses up too much "energy" she turns back into a tiny fox and will whine so much until someone from her family picks her up. Shes bitten her fellow classmates before when theyve tried to pick her up. She only really trusts shoto, izuku, tenya and kirishima when shes in her fox cub form. And she stays like that for a day or two
Hotaru who has an eletric quirk and shes hard of hearing, shes a UA teacher for general studies mainly shell help out with hero courses if they need the help, she tends to give denki advice with his quirk. She also has a cockatoo she brings with her to UA. It likes to head bang with present mic she has a support item thats a tail she can direct all electrical discharge from. She uses it as a tazer mainly. But if she needs to tazer more than one person she discharged from it all over and ends up with a lot of muscle twitching. Shes mainly does undercover hero work with the police.
Then there is Oka who pretty much has a quirk thats similar to Mirajanes magic from Fairy tail. She can change into demons. Any kind. But not fully. Just parts of her body. It depends on her stamina a full transform takes so much out of her she can hold it for like 2 to 3 minutes. Shes in 1B. But she looks like such a dude and wears the boys uniform so everyone thought she was a guy till she went to the female changing room. Noone really believed her so she just dropped her trousers and underwear. Going "I HAVE A FUCKING VAGINA. NOW FUCK OFF AND LET ME CHANGE IN THE GIRLS ROOM" tho she can technically give her self a demon dick. But she cant be bothered. Also some demon forms of her can give her tits. But after trying it she decided she didnt like how much weight it put on her chest and was basically "Thank fuck im flat chested"
Ill be posting love nikki photos of them when i do them!!
