Dear Yuletide Author 2024

Happy Yuletide! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Do not wants/dislikes: Please no PWPs (with one exception, discussed below), no unhappy endings, and no pet/child death even in the background. If a character is injured or hospitalized, please tag for it even if it's a minor character and even if it spoils the plot.

What I like: Characterization is my favorite part of fic, and all these fandoms have been chosen because I love these people so much. What makes them tick? What do they like about each other? I enjoy reading about both romance and friendship, and the way romance and friendship intertwine. I love it when opposites attract and two characters can't resist each other despite seeming totally unalike. Most of all, what I love is when a writer brings their love for and delight in canon into their work - if you focus on what makes the world and the people in it so special, I know I'll love whatever you write!

Mimi wo Sumaseba | Whisper of the Heart (1995)

Tsukishima Shizuku, Amasawa Seiji

One of my favorite movies of all time! I love the sweet, gentle atmosphere of this movie, the way nothing super important happens in the grand scheme of things but it's all so crucial to the characters, the portrayal of what it's like to be an earnest, creative teen burning with ambition. And I love Shizuku and Seiji's relationship and the way they support each other's ambitions, and how their love for each other powers their art. A fic exploring where they go after the events of the movie, both in their relationship and their art, would be wonderful. What's it like for them when Seiji is in Cremona? How do they handle the growing pains of teenage love? What's the next step for Shizuku's creative writing? Feel free to include any of the other characters in the movie, but keep the focus on Shizuku and Seiji. And please don't age them up any older than early 20s - I want them to keep their youthful earnestness!

Persuasion - Jane Austen

Admiral Croft, Sophia Croft

The Admiral and Sophy are among my favorite married couples in all of literature, and I've always wanted more about them. I'd love fic that expands on their story in some way. Maybe you take us back in time to their courtship, their first meeting, or the early days of their marriage. Maybe you hop us forward to some more of their adventures after the events of the novel and the ways their lives intertwine with the other characters. All I ask is that the fic be primarily focused on the two of them and their relationship - while you can include other characters, and of course the events of the novel can come into play and be part of the story, I don't want a fic that just retells Anne and Captain Wentworth's romance from the Crofts' POV.

A Marshmallow World - Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra (1967 Dean Martin Show Performance)

Watching this drunken, goofy performance of "A Marshmallow World" has become a holiday tradition in my family, and every time, I think, "They had to have hooked up either right before or right after this performance, right?" I'd love fic about that hookup - how it happens, when it happens, what's behind it all. It can be simple and straightforward or full of buried feelings - up to you! This is the exception to my "no PWPs" request, due to the nature of the canon.

Psmith - P.G. Wodehouse

Mike Jackson, Rupert Psmith

I'm a latecomer to the world of Psmith, but I love it with all my heart and soul, and I especially love the relationship between Psmith and "Comrade Jackson". Psmith is such a funny, chaotic whirlwind of a character, and Mike is the perfect foil to him. I'd love a story about their relationship and further shenanigans together, especially one where Mike is in a sticky situation and Psmith helps him get out of it. Up to you whether it's shippy or just about their friendship - I would be happy with either! Anyone from Psmith's world is fair game to include as supporting characters. Please don't set it during their school days, though. I prefer reading about them as adults.

You're very welcome, anon! I find it so interesting to think about where these characters might be in the future, and Dean in particular is one I think will always fall back into old habits. Gosh, we saw him do that with Gayle, even if he did tell Beth about it instead of keeping it a secret.

Getting to explore that in C&C with the kids has been pretty fun!

Get Me to the Church On Time Pt. 1

Series Summary: It's Dean and Julie's wedding day. What could go wrong?

Chapter Summary: Dean is nervous and stressed about the big day. His friends and family are not helping.

Series Warnings/Explicit 18+: Some show level violence, eventual smut, fluff, smidge of angst. Chapters will have individual warnings.

A/N 2: So, as I stated this mini-series is part of my 1K followers celebration. For the celebration I asked people to send in gif prompts, or requests for me to write, all of which would be posted on my birthday, which is TODAY! 🎉

I only ended up with 6 prompts/requests, so I thought I would mix the prompts in with my own ideas, and I decided to write this little mini-series as well as a (hopefully) special surprise for those who enjoyed Dean and Julie in Green is My Favorite Color.

At 7:00 PM, I will post my last fic for the celebration, the first chapter of my sequel series, I Will Find You in the Dark!

"What time is it, Sammy?"

"It's one minute and thirty-six seconds from the last time you asked me."

Sam looked up from the game of chess he was playing with Benny. "We're still like twenty minutes away from even leaving for the church, Dean. Relax."

He took out Benny's bishop and then looked back at Dean, a wide, teasing smile on his face. "If she's hung in this long, Julie's not likely to drop you in the last hour."

Dean shot his little brother a look. "You don't know that for sure. Maybe today's the day she finally comes to her senses."

Sam nodded as though he was contemplating that possibility. "Well, we'll just have to wait and see, I guess."

He raised his voice as he looked around the cheap motel room they were waiting in. "Who else wants to get in on this action? Five to one odds that Julie doesn't show up today at the church! Who's betting?"

Benny reached in his pocket, and pulled out a ten. "I'll take that action." Dean scowled at him and Benny just shrugged. "Sorry, Chief, but that pretty lady is just too good for you "

Kevin and Garth stood up and put a few bucks down in favor of Dean being left at the altar.

Dean gave them all a supremely unimpressed look. "Seriously?"

Garth grinned. "Sorry, Amigo, but I've been planning on marrying Julie since we teamed up back in Apocalypse Number One. If she stands you up, maybe I've got a chance."

Everyone laughed, and Dean gave a fake chuckle. "Yeah, yeah, laugh it up. But you're all gonna feel like crap when she really does come to her senses and I'm left standing there like an idiot."

He turned away, to stare out the window at the empty parking lot. The group of men, (Best Man Sam, Groomsman Benny, and guests Kevin and Garth) began a loud conversation all about the horror stories they'd heard or read, where grooms got left waiting for a runaway bride.

When the teasing ended though, they came, one by one to pound him on the back, and quietly reassure him.

Benny came up first and offered him a sip from his flask, which Dean gladly accepted. "My friend, I watched that little girl fight with every breath in her body to keep you safe, to keep you alive. I watched her nearly die alongside you when you were bleeding into the ground of purgatory."

He thumped Dean's back with his big, meaty hand and smiled with a slightly wistful air. "I'm gonna be out ten bucks, I can promise you that."

Next Kevin came up and stood right in front of him. "You don't notice it because, well, because you're you, but I've seen how Julie watches you, and..."

The young prophet looked down at the floor, a hopeful smile on his face. "Well, let's just say I sure hope someone looks at me like that one day."

Garth slung an arm around Dean's shoulder as they looked out the window together. "I knew from the first minute I met her that I didn't stand a chance with Julie Taylor, in spite of my winning ways and charm. Know how I knew?"

Dean's mouth lifted at the corner. "No, how?"

"We were fighting all them demons together, trying to keep the world spinnin' while the devil tried to take hold of Sam, remember?"

"Vaguely." Dean said, voice thick with sarcasm.

"Well, the group of us, we got to talkin' about you Winchesters, and that girl lit up like a firefly every time your name came up. Course, she was sorta sad too, cause you were bein' a idiot, and wouldn't date her."

Dean scowled at him and Garth shrugged. "Annie told me. God rest her soul. My point is, she's been in love with you as long as I've known her, and I knew I never stood a chance."

He squeezed Dean's shoulders in a sideways hug and moved off.

Sam came to stand silently beside him for a while before he simply said. "Julie has been in love with you for most of her life, Dean. What are the chances she stops that today?"

Dean shrugged and crossed his arms. "Pretty unlikely." He said quietly.

Sam nodded. "Exactly." He pulled his brother into a quick, reluctant hug, pulling back to clap his big hand against the side of Dean's neck.

"You're getting married today, man. I'm so, unbelievably happy for you."

Dean ducked his head, avoiding Sam's earnest and warm expression. But he gave a shy smile and nodded. "Thanks, Sammy."

Dean's smile continued as Sam left with a final pat on his back. They were right, and he knew it, deep down.

Julie loved him more than the air in her lungs. He just never understood why, so it was easy to imagine her waking up one morning and deciding she'd been seeing things in him that weren't there.

A few minutes later Cas opened the door. "All right, everyone, the church is ready, and the bride is there and waiting, so we should go now."

The ragtag group, three hunters, a vampire, one angel and a prophet all clamored to leave at once, sounding like a stampede as they rushed forward. Dean was left alone in the room for minute as they ran out to their vehicles and he took a deep breath.

Cas stuck his head back in the door. "Dean, you have to come with us now. Julie said, and I quote, "Cas, if you don't get Dean to that church on time, I'm gonna see if I can toss an angel into Hell."

He frowned. "Of course, I assume she was speaking metaphorically, since it would be physically impossible for her to lift me up and throw me anywhere. Especially not hell, since she doesn't actually know how-"

"Okay, Cas!" Dean interrupted, grinning. "I'm coming."

What WIPs are you (not) working on? I know about the "Blue Skies" sequel, but what about the other ones???

omg okay okay so one of them is an au where after having rory, lorelai agreed to marry chris, so rory is raised in hartford high society. she and jess have never met so it'll be what happens when they meet at 21 and it's gonna be SO fun if it ever gets written omg. I won't share all the details because some things need to be a surprise but they're going to date in secret for a while there it's going to be. fantastic

another one is a dawson's creek style au where dean jess and rory are all best friends, like jess and dean were close and dean and rory were close (dean's family moved to stars hollow when he was very young and liz took jess to new york after several years but he and dean stayed in touch) and basically jess and rory fall for each other and all hell breaks loose ajsjfhsjd. like they start off very antagonistic but after a couple years pacey style jess falls for her and she falls for him <33 again if it ever gets written it's gonna be so dramatic. god. truly a teen drama

the last one is one that I thought up like two days ago and it was SUPPOSED to be a practice fic so I could warm up with my writing again and try to let myself have a not great first draft (because I struggle a lot with that) but it's already kind of taken over me ajsjdf. but basically because I have no sense of originality it's a the office/jim and pam au <3 loosely inspired by a bullet point au I don't really have a plan for this one either I want to just see where it takes me but I'll loosely follow at least season 1-3 jim and pam but with jess and rory, with new dialogue and stuff but yk.

and yet... with all four I am just sitting switching between docs and slowly losing my mind <33

17. Who says I love you first?

OH BOY!!!!!

Ok. I've thought about this in a lot of different ways. (Did someone say near-death experience confessions???) But my answer in this moment, currently, right now, at this moment,

Jo does. And Dean doesn't respond right away, his brain is just. Buffering. He loves her, he knows he does, but this has never happened before. He's never been in a relationship long enough to get to this point. And it's like an "Oh shit." moment, like "This is Real." He kinda has an internal anxiety attack, Kill Bill sirens are going off. How much time has passed since he hasn't said it back? He doesn't know.

He does say it back, though. I have a lil scene I'm writing I'll show you when it's done 👀👀👀

18. Who leaves notes in the other one's lunch? (Bonus: what does it usually say?)

THIS IS SO CUTE ASAHDS

Ok first off, it would take them a long time to get to the little love notes stage, they're both so "EW FEELINGS!!!"

I feel like it would be Dean, the ol softie. It varies day-to-day, but there's always something that makes her smile/something that makes her laugh, and a little ♡ at the end (which he second guesses IMMEDIATELY the first time he writes a note, but she loved it, so he keeps doing it)

19. Who tells their family/friends about their relationship first?

DEAN LMAO There is a singular base conflict of nearly every fic I write, and her name is Ellen Harvelle. She is the LAST to know, and for good reason. It's an oldie, but a goodie. I can't resist the Drama.

20. What do their family/friends think about their relationship?

(Assuming this is an AU where their parents are, you know, alive)

Dean's family? She's an angel!!! Best girl you've ever gone out with!!! Hang onto her!!! Don't screw it up!!! Marry her!!!

Jo's family? .......... it doesn't start out well with her mom. Her dad loves him, though, they're like father and son.

Of course, at some point, Ellen comes around

21. Who is more likely to start dancing with the other?

Oh gosh oh geez uhhhh

Not to sound like a broken record,,,,,,, but Dean probably would. You know what? Scratch that. He would. Jo would be embarrassed, and he'd be like "Humor me." And she does and it's actually really nice. She steps on his feet a few times, but he just laughs it off. And they just. Stay like that for a bit. Just enjoying the way the whole world slips away and its just the two of them, in that moment

22. Who cooks more? Who is better at cooking?

Dean!!!

23. Who comes up with cheesy pickup lines?

DEAN

He learned from day one, lines don't work on her. So it's never genuine. But he does say them jokingly to make her laugh (or to annoy her, but in a playful way)

24. Who whispers inappropriate things in the other's ear during inappropriate times?

Adhsfjsgjdgjx I REALLY AM A BROKEN RECORD HUH?? Dean 100%!!!!

In a funny way?

He's the one at any Serious Event where you're supposed to be Quiet who whispers a joke to her and she would snort with laughter, way too loud on accident, all eyes falling on her and she is MORTIFIED and says a quiet "Sorry." And then punches him in the arm the second no one is looking at her and he just snickers

In a flirty way?

It's all the time, babey!!! And she turns red every time and he gets a stupid self-gratifying grin on his face from her reaction and she hates him for it!!!

25. Who needs more assurance?

I think we both know the answer to this.

Despite his confident attitude, his self-esteem is like, so bad. The fact that she wants to be with him helps and also bewilders him. Like really?? ME?? Gosh I've written something where (and I'm paraphrasing here, it's not this harsh) Ellen is basically like "You don't deserve her" and he's like "Yeah I know???" (It's a lot better than it sounds lmao but you get the point)

Anyway yeah this boy needs assurance ALL THE TIME please be nice to him

26. What would be their theme song?

Oh man.... Oh. OH!! I GOT IT.

Bleeding Out by Imagine Dragons. That's like, the basis of their entire relationship tbh.

27. Who would sing their child back to sleep?

This is so soft........ Dean would..... he'd sing Hey Jude just like his mom sang to him I'M EMOTIONAL I CAN'T TALK ABOUT THIS ANYMORE

28. What do they do when they're away from each other?

Pretend they don't miss each other. At the start of their relationship, at least.

But a lot of texting like, all day. And Dean calls her every night he's away.

29. One headcanon about this OTP that breaks your heart?

I don't need a headcanon to break my heart, I already got canon for that

BUT- I headcanon that Dean was actually on that last hunt with John and her dad (in canon he wasn't, but he would've been 16 at the time?? He started hunting with John well before that) anyway here's what happened, from supernatural wiki:

So, super fun story. (The date in that journal entry makes no sense, Jo is supposed to be 4 in 1986 but she was born in 85? So let's go with it happened in 1995 and she was 10.) But anyway, I headcanon Dean was there and he never told Jo about it because A. That's not something you want to bring up with anybody, let alone your girlfriend who's dad you saw die and had to burn his remains and B. It's a horrible story, she's better off thinking that her dad died a hero in the line of duty and not like that.

But eventually, she does find out, and she confronts him about it (I may,,, or may not,,, have an angsty short fic about this,,,)

Everything tbh!! Just the fact of them being able to be together is enough!! (Also I'm tired and I'm out of ideas LMAO)
