Jennifer Garner knows the key to surviving a heatwave: ice cream!

The Camping actress and a gaggle of kids headed to Hornstra Farms, a dairy farm located about an hour south of Boston on Thursday afternoon to cool off with some homemade sweet treats.

Dressed in a black T-shirt and striped skirt, Garner purchased ice cream for the kids and water for herself.

“I was with her in the store, and she was very friendly to everyone,” an employee, who described Garner as “super nice,” tells PEOPLE. “She came in, waited in line like everyone else. I have a feeling she left the girls a really nice tip.”

After enjoying their scoops, Garner and the kids headed down to the barn to check out the cows. But before leaving, Garner kindly took the time to snap a photo with some staff members at the farm.

On Wednesday, Garner’s ex-husband Ben Affleck was spotted with their three children, Violet, 13, Seraphina, 10, and Samuel, 7, at Cape Cod, according to Page Six.

Being kind is nothing new to Garner. In June, the actress teamed up with Walmart for the #SparkKindness initiative to encourage people to perform their own acts of kindness — from buying someone a cup of coffee to volunteering.

That same month, Garner visited a migrant shelter housing thousands of immigrant children.

“I get to see the beauty of kids in the worst of circumstances,” Garner said in a clip from an NBC News special about Save the Children’s work. “They’ve gone without baths, without food, without medical care. They’re here, happy to hear me butcher Goodnight Moon because they’re children.”

Little Indy Feek Dancing To Her Dad And Sister Singing A Country Song Will Warm Your Heart – Country Music Nation

One could argue that the best thing to come out of the world falling in love with country duo Joey + Rory was their beautiful music. You could also argue that it was getting to know their family, which includes Rory’s daughters from a previous relationship, Heidi and Hopie, and their baby girl, Indiana – who everyone calls “Indy.”

Although the family has endured heartbreak and tragedy when they lost Joey to cancer in March 2016, they somehow still have a positive outlook on life and love, thanks to their close bond. The father of three and his daughters appeared on the Father’s Day episode of CBS Sunday Morning to perform a few songs, promote his new book Once Upon a Farm, and talk about raising a young daughter on his own.

During one segment, Rory performed the classic country song “If I Needed You” with his daughter Heidi and her Firekid bandmate Dillon Hodges. If the tune sounds familiar to you, that’s because it was originally performed by Townes Van Zandt, but was recorded by fellow country singers including Emmylous Harris, Don Williams and Joey + Rory.

Joey + Rory’s version was included on their 2013 album Made to Last, and the music video included footage from little Indy’s birth.

Even though Rory was fully entranced in his wonderful father-daughter performance with Heidi, he couldn’t help but look over at his other two children who were dancing together on the porch. With a huge smile on his face, Rory beamed with pride watching little Indy dance around to his music, especially to a song he used to sing with her mother.
