Onaqui Update! The second group who will be taking some Onaqui mustangs is the Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary (GEMS) and Training Center (@great_escape_sanctuary) ___________________________ Located in Colorado, this 501(c)(3) is both a training facility and a sanctuary. GEMS is located on over 900 acres of rolling meadows, most of which is used by their wild herd. For horses in their training program, GEMS is dedicated to bridging the gap between potential adopters and mustangs at holding facilities. During training, they monitor each horse's personality to determine what experience level is needed for the horse and thus better match horses to their forever homes. Horses not in the training program live out their days with the wild herd. As before, one of our volunteers has personally toured the facility to ensure that the Onaqui will be receiving the best possible care. Updates on Onaqui Horses, 15 January 2020 🚨 As some of you are already aware, the adoption at the Delta facility has been rescheduled for the 31st of January 2020. In light of that, we have some updates for you in regards to the horses. We have been in contact with multiple groups regarding placement for at least some of the Onaqui horses. Once those groups are ready to post their fundraising information, we will share their information with you. This way, you will be able to donate to them directly. Unfortunately, due to the competitive nature of the auctions, we cannot make any promises on what horses we can bring home, but we have secured as many homes as we can. _________ Our first group to check out is Sweetbeau Horses (@sweetbeauhorses). ⬅️⬅️⬅️They are a 501(3)c dedicated to working with mustangs to adapt them to domestic life and find them forever homes. Sweetbeau gives each horse, at minimum, a year of training so that each horse has the time to learn at their own pace. One of our volunteers has personally seen the facility and can vouch for the intensive care each animal receives. In addition, their facility setup allows for working with mustangs while minimizing stress involved in the process. @jamibollschweilerphotograpy for day 3 of the take over. This series of photos was taken last year while I was out with some friends photographing the horses. A fight for dominance broke out between my favorite stallion on the Onaqui range and another stallion. It was a first for me, and I had never seen anything like it. Nature has a peaceful side and a beautifully tragic side as well. Thankfully this short battle left the bay uninjured and walking away to roll in the mud. This unique cream stallion with his beautiful sea foam eyes always keeps his band away from the main herd and likes to avoid conflict. He is both a striking and an exceptional band leader. Good morning everyone! @jamibollschweilerphotography for my second day of the takeover. I have some photos that hold a special place in my heart. I took this photo a few years ago and I titled it, "When the band has you back." This was the first foal I found that was born recently and my excitement was palpable. If any of you remember the first young foal you found and the memory attached to it, this was my memory. The young colt stood at the lead and the band took a stance behind his back. To have all the horses watching him and waiting for his next move was and still is something I haven't captured or seen since. Sometimes the photograph is about the memory and not the most aesthetically pleasing. Foals and Flowers Friday! Hello all my Fellow Horse Lovers. This is @jamibollschweilerphotography doing a take over for the next week while the WHPC team is off exploring. Photography has turned into a real passion for me since the passing of my mother. I love the peace that I find in the outdoors.
