can you please continue the super hero bechloe AU? it's amazing
Unknown number: Did you get home okay?
Chloe: New phone who dis?
Beca: Come on, Zip, let’s not make this weird.
Chloe: Ok, y u gotta b rude w/ Zippo?
Beca: Oh my God, is that seriously how you text?
Chloe: mayb. Y? bother u?
Beca: Yes.
Chloe: Fine, I can text like it’s going to be included in an honours thesis. It’s more boring, but whatever. Your loss.
Beca: Thank you.
Beca: You never answered my question.
Chloe: Yes, Becs, I got home just fine. You?
Beca: Yeah, didn’t run into any midnight criminals, so that’s always nice.
Chloe: So when can I see you again?
Beca: Aren’t you supposed to wait like three days before asking that so you don’t seem desperate?
Chloe: I don’t like to wait. If I know what I want, I go after it. Waiting for some dumb societal unwritten code doesn’t fly with me.
Beca: Fair enough.
Beca: Saturday? I have an idea.
Chloe: Me too. Yours involve handcuffs too?
Beca: NO!
Chloe: Lame.
Beca: Just, meet me at the fifth avenue and fifty-third street station?
Chloe: Sure thing. When?
Beca: One?
Chloe: Do I get to know what we’re doing?
Beca: No, but dress casually.
Chloe: Already dictating my wardrobe eh?
Beca: What?!
Chloe: Ne fret pas. I like it.
Beca: You speak French?
Chloe: Maybe.
Beca: …
Beca: That’s hot.
Chloe: I know ;) See you Saturday.
Beca: See you, Chlo.
Beca: Chloe*.
Chloe: It’s cute when you call me Chlo, I don’t mind.
Beca: Okay, Chlo, go to bed.
Chlo: Night!
Beca: Night.
Saturday
Beca taps her foot as she leans against the outside station wall. She has her headphones on, listening to the last mix she finished two days ago. She’s thinking about trying to mash together “Swimming Pools” by Kendrick Lamar and “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons. The juxtaposition should work well enough, and if she has to add a couple of samples it might work even better.
She writes down a note on her phone with her thoughts on the new mix and then someone taps her shoulder. Beca turns to see Chloe smiling widely at her. Chloe gives her a wave before Beca realizes she should pause her music and slip her headphones around her neck.
“Hey,” Beca says, adjusting her messenger bag.
“So where are we going?” Chloe asks, completely bypassing the pleasantries. She takes Beca’s arm and waits for her to lead them somewhere.
“You’ll find out soon. We’re not far,” Beca tries not to look around and see if anyone’s looking at them. She takes Chloe west along fifty-third street. It only takes a few steps before Chloe guesses their destination.
“We’re going to the MoMA?” Chloe asks, no longer letting Beca pull her. Instead she keeps pace now that she knows where to go.
“Yeah. You seem like you’d be into modern art. Plus I like it. It’s kind of quietly creative, nice and low-key.”
Chloe heads to the main entrance, but Beca gently pulls on her arm, redirecting them. Chloe shoots Beca a confused look, but Beca just smiles and shakes her head. They walk down the side of the building until they come to a fire exit and Beca knocks on the door. She raps five times, then seven, then five again before pulling back and waiting.
To Chloe’s unasked question, Beca answers, “He likes haikus. I don’t question it.” Chloe nods like she too wants someone to knock out a haiku on her door.
It takes almost a full minute, but eventually the door opens to reveal a rather stony-faced man in a security uniform. His eyes meet Chloe’s, widening a little in surprise, before settling on Beca. The two of them stare at each other unblinkingly for a moment before Chloe can see Beca’s lips start to break into a grin.
“Aha!” the man says, grinning widely. “I win!”
Beca rolls her eyes, but she’s clearly pleased. “Hi Hank,” she says, settling back on her heels.
“Well, hi, Becs. Long time, no see,” Hank says, leaning against the door and crossing his arms. Beca sighs.
“I know, Hank. I’m sorry it’s been so long. College is crazy,” Beca says. “But, I brought you this,” she adds, pulling out a three-pack of Kinder Surprise Eggs from her pocket.
Hank’s eyes practically glow. He tries to hold his disgruntled stare, but the happiness the Kinder eggs bring is too much. He grins from ear to ear.
“Alright, you little rascal, you and your friend can go on in,” Hank gestures them through the door with his head.
“Thanks, man,” Beca says as she lets Chloe go in first. “I’ll bring you something next time I see you.”
Hank chuckles as he follows them inside. “I’m counting on it.”
Chloe and Beca wander down the hall a little ways leaving Hank when he turns off for the security room.
“Yeah, I don’t think he can actually hear the knocks from in there. I think he just watches on a monitor and assumes I’m doing it right,” Beca comments once he’s out of earshot. They come to a stop in front of a Jackson Pollock painting, and Beca can feel Chloe’s expectant eyes on her.
“What’s up, Zip?” Beca says, already sounding a little monotonous.
“There’s clearly a story there about you and Hank, and you’re just glossing over it!” Chloe seems to quietly explode with the hushed words.
“Okay, and?” Beca asks, drawing out the “a” in and.
“And, you can’t just let that hang in the air,” Chloe explains, as if that solves everything.
“Why not?”
“Because it’s rude.”
“Is that it?”
Chloe’s eyes seem to burn as they bear down into Beca’s. “If you don’t tell me whatever the story is, it’s going to hang over us like the figurative elephant in the room, Becs. It’s going to be our constant companion, this story, because you’ll know what it is, and I’ll know that you don’t want to share yourself with me.”
Chloe straightens suddenly, “And basically our relationship will be doomed from the start, and I don’t want that to happen.”
Beca heard every word, she swears she did, but she gets stuck, “Relationship, eh?”
“Have I not been obvious about my interest?” Chloe asks, somewhat rhetorically. At Beca’s noncommittal shrug, she waves her hands around them to gesture to the museum, “Is this not a date at a museum because you thought I’d like it?”
“Okay, yes, it’s a date!” Beca says defensively, only responding to Chloe’s increasingly agitated, maybe worried, voice. “Clearly I like you, dumbass, I did the whole meeting you for shitty coffee without my disguise thing, remember?”
Now grinning, Chloe says, “Sounds vaguely familiar.”
Beca rolls her eyes. “Do you want to have this date, or not?”
Chloe reaches forward to grab Beca’s hand. “Totes!”
Beca just raises an eyebrow at the odd slang.
“But I do want that story, too,” Chloe adds as they begin walking around the first hall.
“Maybe at a later date,” Beca hedges. It’s really not a very interesting story, and she doesn’t want to embarrass herself with her dumbass teenaged shenanigans this early in the game.
“When then?” Chloe asks, relentlessly.
Beca tries to find a good answer in the paint-splattered canvas before her eyes. “I dunno, dude, like if you make it to date seven?” She pulls on Chloe’s hand to shuffle three feet to the next painting, but Chloe doesn’t budge.
“You don’t think I’ll make it my mission to get to date seven just for this story?” Chloe asks.
Sighing deeply, Beca tries to placate Chloe. “I mean, of course you will, so I’ve just guaranteed myself six more dates with you, Zip.” She works hard not to let the tail end of her plan lilt upwards and make it obvious that she’s making this stuff up as she goes.
“I see how it is. You hook them with the intrigue of a secret story, then use it as leverage to secure yourself plenty of dates which just so happen to span longer than your target’s sex rule, thereby making you more desirable and ensuring you get laid all in one fell swoop!” Chloe declares, voice getting noticeably louder as she works up to her finale.
Beca blinks slowly, like she’s trying to take all of that in. “Dude, no. I can barely even follow that.”
Suddenly Chloe’s smiling. “It’s not a bad thing, Becs, you know what you want.”
“But that’s not my—”
“I might even need to steal such a genius plan,” she adds, finally stepping toward Beca so they can continue around the museum.
“Oh my God, why did I bring you here?” Beca whines.
Chloe winks at her and flips her hair dramatically. “Because you like me and I like you and you can’t deny; we’ll be super hot together.”
The way Chloe says it as a statement instead of a suggestion throws Beca off. “We’ll be super hot together?”
“Oh totes, Becs. You’re gorgeous.”
Despite herself, Beca feels herself flush at the compliment. “Oh, um, you too, Zip.”
Chloe squeezes Beca’s hand. “You know, Bec, Zip was a mildly creative nickname back when we were friends—”
“We’re not friends?”
“—But now that we are more than that, I don’t think Zip is really sexy enough to encompass what we’ve got going on here,” Chloe muses, pulling Beca to a stop in front of a collection of variously askew jars.
“What have we got going on here?”
“I’m so glad you asked!” Chloe says happily. “What we have here is your classic romantic half-doomed superhero love story.”
The matter of fact way Chloe says it is what gets Beca laughing. A wandering museum-goer gives her a look and Beca straightens up. “Can you not see the humour Santalta imbibed within these angles?” Beca asks, gesturing to the jars in front of her. Beca raises an eyebrow and then looks away, watching from the corner of her eye as the woman looks a bit harder at the piece of art and finally lets out a light chuckle.
Woman forgotten, Beca turns to Chloe again, “That’s not a thing.”
Chloe scoffs. “Aca-scuse me, it most definitely is a thing and it’s happening right here and now between us.”
“What the—what the fuck,” Beca drops her voice to a hush for the last word, “is that?”
“What?” Chloe asks, oblivious.
“What the hell is an ‘aca-scuse me’?”
Surprisingly, where only something very suggestive had gotten the job done before, Chloe blushes.
“Story time!” Beca declares, but her expression turns serious as her body stiffens. Abruptly the tone of their date shifts. “Sirens. Three fire trucks, two ambulances, and at least two police cars.”
“Which way?” Chloe shifts gears as instantaneously as Beca does, already leading them towards the fire exit they came in.
“North, not too far,” Beca surges ahead and opens the door, holding it for Chloe to slip out too. She lets is close behind her and turns briefly to wave goodbye at the surveillance camera. “Bye Hank!”
Then they set off at a run. Two blocks away, Beca dashes down an alley, “Keep going, I’ll meet up with you!” And then she throws a web toward the sky and swings up onto a roof.
Chloe listens, running straight for the sirens that get louder as she gains. A minute later, she hears “Go with it!” and Beca crashes into her, holding on, and swinging Chloe with her up onto another rooftop.
“Should be just on the other side of the building,” Beca says, the two of the moving closer to the opposite edge of the roof. And Chloe isn’t trying to notice things about Beca right now, but she can’t help but admire (and find incredibly sexy) the calm and calculated decisions Beca seems to be making.
Way back in the day, when Spider-Man was basically just a whisper of a nuisance to Chloe and her pals, their whole group questioned Spider-Man’s ability to be a contributing superhero in the city. She could make questionable, even bad calls, and made them fairly often. Regular people would suffer from the consequences of her actions, like when she fought inside convenience stores, destroying thousands of dollars worth of products instead of moving the fight outside. Or ignoring the laws of New York traffic and helping cause accidents and injuries.
Spider-Man disappeared for a while after that, but then she came back and it was like she had undergone some kind of transformation. She almost always made the right call, and that’s about when Chloe and the rest of the team starting dropping in on her calls to try and make friends, or at least an ally.
In Chloe’s case, she’s been more than successful, because right now, yeah, they’re going to try and stop some bad people, but the sexual tension is palpable, sliding across her skin as she leans over the edge to get a better view of the situation, still listening to Beca.
“Looks like armed robbery, multiple injuries and/or casualties,” Beca rattles off, listening intently down below. At least five suspects, all still inside the bank. Estimates are 15 hostages. No location on a getaway vehicle, if there is one.”
Chloe’s awed, “You can hear all that from up here?”
“Not exactly, Red, I don’t have like super hearing or whatever, but I’ve got those spidey senses and it’s more like vibrations in the air that I can feel - words have certain patterns to them, and I can feel the patterns.”
Chloe scoffs, “Sounds like super hearing to me.”
She knows that underneath her mask, Beca’s rolling her eyes.
“We should find a way to sneak in, rescue any hostages we can find, and once we’re in there we can form a better plan as to how we’re going to save the rest and take down the baddies. Any thoughts?”
“Can you sense anything about the layout of the bank?”
“I’m not an X-ray machine,” Beca sighs. “I can hear them talking about it though, seems like they’re also just starting to make a plan, although theirs involves talking to them over the phone and negotiating.
“Seems like there’s a basement. If we can find a way in, we can work from there. They’re talking about the sewer system and trying to get a copy of the blueprints to see if they’re close enough.”
“It’s kinda hot to hear you eavesdrop with the vibrations in the air,” Chloe says offhandedly.
Beca turns to her, and Chloe swears that if the mask weren’t in the way she’d be able to see Beca flush.
“Remember Zip, the kissing comes after the bad guys.”
Chloe raises an eyebrow suggestively and then Beca’s wrapping an arm strongly around Chloe’s waist and once again, Chloe feels like she’s flying. Beca drops them on the roof of the bank’s building and without verbally confirming, Chloe flames up and drops them into the top floor of the accounting firm beside the bank through a vent.
They work their way down through the floors and into the basement. Chloe burns them a tunnel into the bank’s basement, and Beca slips ahead to do her sneaky thing.
She looks around as she goes, noting a lack of bad guys as she scales up the wall and makes her way toward the main atrium of the bank along the ceiling. At the doorway, she can see about a dozen people in the middle of the room with three armed thieves circling them. Two more are behind the tills, one is stuffing money and anything else they can find into a duffel bag. The other is working on the computer.
Beca sinks back away and rejoins Chloe in the basement to fill her in. “The way I see it, we gotta take the gunmen out quietly one by one. The location of the hostages is too visible for us to steal them away in chunks. We gotta eliminate the threats entirely so they can just leave out the front door.”
Chloe nods, “Any suggestions?”
Beca rubs her nose and chin through her mask. “I’ve got one, but it’s pretty dumb.”
“It’s more than I’ve got.”
“If you can cause a distraction, like pretend to be a patron who got lost, that might cause enough of a disturbance for me to sneak into there without being seen. Once I’m in, I can start removing them from the equation one by one, but I’m useless in here and I can’t see another way to get behind the tills.”
“It’s not the worst idea I’ve ever head,” Chloe says, trailing off.
“I don’t want to put you in danger, Zip.”
“We’re all in danger, Spidey, we just can do something about it,” Chloe responds, and walks past Beca.
Chloe gives herself a pep talk as she approaches the atrium door and then steps through, tears streaming down her face, “I’m sorry! I got lost!”
Immediately, the armed men point their weapons at her, the two closest charge towards her and incapacitate her by grabbing onto her arms. Another approaches and puts her wrists into plastic manacles. The two behind the counter look up from their work, but they only briefly look at the commotion before returning their attentions to their tasks.
Beca manages to sneak in along the ceiling as the robbers start interrogating Chloe about where she came from and they start arguing amongst themselves about where she came from. Beca drops behind the man at the computer once the hostage-wrangling men look away from that direction. She gets right behind him and strikes at the point two inches adjacent to the spine at the back of his neck. There are hollow places there that some martial artists call Gall Bladder 20.
He drops almost immediately, the jolt to his brain knocking him out. She catches him and lowers him gently to the floor, and then retreats behind a desk to wait for the opportune time to strike the guy shoving valuables into his bag.
Her moment comes about twenty seconds later as he moves farther to the back of the room. She crawls around another desk and gets behind him, too, as he’s shoving papers off of one desk into his bag. She does the same thing, and with the element of complete stealth, he too falls into her arms before being lowered to the floor.
One of the men circling the hostages and Chloe glances over at the counter just as Beca flattens herself back against the ceiling.
“You alright back there?” he calls out, drawing the attention of the two other men. They all turn to investigate. “Bloody hell,” he says, then he spits on the ground and walks toward the counter.
As Beca watches this all unfold, she tries to think really loudly toward Chloe. They need to eliminate one more before they can take on the last two together, otherwise there are wildcards at play and that’s when hostages get injured. For better or worse, Chloe is stalwartly not looking up towards Beca on the ceiling, refusing to give away her partner’s position.
What she does do however, is melt the plastic around her wrists to free herself, and then she coughs hard enough to draw the attention of the two men around them back to her.
Beca seizes the opportunity to take down the man who’s come to find her, sending him to the floor to join his comrades. And then she traverses the ceiling until she’s right above the man farthest from Chloe.
Without looking at each other, Beca and Chloe both fly into motion. Chloe flames her hand as it comes up to lock around her guy’s wrist, using her other to take the gun from his hands and throw it aside. Beca drops from the ceiling, kicking the gun out of her man’s fingers and jabbing him right in the neck, pinpointing the vagus nerve.
Chloe lands a solid punch on her robber’s neck, leaving an angry burn in his skin to boot.
“Alright everyone, please head outside slowly with your hands up. The cops are out there and they’re going to help you out,” Chloe says as she lets go of the fire and her hands return to normal.
They’re awash in a sea of thank yous for a moment before Beca’s yanking at Chloe’s arm back the way they came in. They head back up to the roof and Beca once more swings them across the alley.
“Not a bad first date, Spidey,” Chloe says as Beca releases her and she finds her feet. Beca peels off her mask and smiles at Chloe.
“You’re the one who said we had to plan for things like this,” Beca reminds her. And then she marches right up to Chloe, takes her face into both hands, and presses her lips solidly against Chloe’s.
Their lips meet each other’s over and over again, growing more lazy and content as the number of kisses increases. When Chloe finally pulls away, her cheeks are red and her eyes are warm as she says, “I think I’m getting hungry.”
Beca nods, “Yeah, sorry, we didn’t get a chance to eat, I swear it was on the list.”
Chloe just smiles lasciviously and with a wink, she says, “Different kind of hungry, Becs, but I’m sure we’ll have time for that later.”
“Christ,” Beca says, and then Chloe’s pulling her along to take the date to a new destination.

(1/14)I am so sorry for taking so long! (I also had to spend a lot of time studying this week bc I had my first exam for my Anatomy Lab on Wednesday... And then we had our first exam for *Lecture* Thursday (which also was the day I had a bunch of powerpoints due for my very intimidating adviser...) and then I had to substitute teach all day Friday (and then I meant to respond sooner but I got so busy 😭) so yeah I completely understand about school getting in the way no worries abt it!)
And also sleeping in on a day off when you’ve been busy studying lately is completely valid hon 👌 I hope that your midterms go well and that you’re able to stay healthy and take care of yourself in the midst of preparing! (not that you wouldn’t, I just have a bad habit of neglecting things like healthy sleeping and eating habits when I get caught up studying, so hopefully you’re not like me in that way) And yeah me too! I mean on the one hand I understand *why* they have that limit
3)If u could just send as many as u want there would be so much more spam and ppl would definitely abuse that. But also?? Um? I have a chronic condition called ‘Can'tShuttheFuckUp-itis’? 🤷 This policy is so discriminatory towards people like me who suffer from this crippling condition! I feel oppressed honestly 🙄 tumblr rlly has something against ppl just trying to get to know each other huh? Lol, but at least now we know why it eats them I’ll be sure to try to prevent that in the future
4)And oh my gosh that’s so cool! I’m super jealous!! 😮 lol. I wish they hosted kpop nights at my local bar! 😭😭 But no, I’m here at my little state college in a little 2 mi2 town just under pop 5500 (and idek if that’s before or after counting college students) in the middle of the 'farm zone’ of my state. All we get is country night @Riley’s 😩 RIP. But ya I wish I had more ppl around me who were into kpop! So far I’ve only met 3 ppl who listen to it. One was that roommate I told you about
5)One is just a casual listener who isn’t really into 3rd gen groups and mostly just listens to Girl’s Generation but that’s valid, and one isn’t even rlly a fan of any groups in particular, she just puts the kpop station on when she studies bc she says she needs music but if it’s in English she gets distracted, lol And omg that is insane! $500?? And 5 copies of the same album? 😲 (Says the girl who’s been a Monbebe for a hot 2 months and has already bought three (3??) Monsta X T-shirts… 😂
6)in my defense tho one of them was only $10 bc it was Black Friday? And u can’t blame me, Hot Topic is my krypotonite lmao) but yeah I already feel guilty about spending 30+ dollars on one copy of an album (thx international shipping) That’s so wild. And yeah I don’t get why ppl feel the need go out of their way just to insult other ppl’s music taste. I’m also pretty self conscious abt sharing my music taste and obviously the way everyone around me talks abt kpop has made me even moreso now 🙃
7) I haven’t gotten into too many groups yet bc I’m trying to go slowly and focus on getting into one group at a time but I do have a long list of groups I plan on getting into eventually! NU'EST is one that I’ve heard some of their songs on my Spotify based on my listening history and they’re on the list haha 😂 And omg I feel really similarly about Got7! I tried to get into them after I got into Monsta X and right before I got into Astro and although I did really like some of their songs
8)I haven’t really been able to get into their music as much as MX and Astro’s yet. I do think they seem like a really fun group in terms of personality though. As for the comeback I know right?? I mean I know a lot of ppl were freaking out abt the comeback being a 'sexy’ and how it wasn’t gonna be the same cute Astro we all love anymore. But they filled the MV with flowers and glitter and still managed to make it sexy as fuck! This album has a very different vibe but it still felt like them
9) They managed to pull off a more mature and sexy concept while still staying true to themselves and I’m so here for it! I don’t know if I could really pick a favorite era because I love them all! I mean Spring Up was an excellent era and every era since then has been great. They really don’t know how to have any bad concepts or make any bad songs huh? Lol. Since I’m still pretty new I really love the title tracks since I’ve heard them the most. (I have listened to their full discography
10)But I haven’t listened to their Bsides enough to pick out my favorites from those) I also really love Again though! The first time I saw the dance practice I was super into it and then I looked up the lyrics and was like 'this is supposed to be sad/regretful song it has no reason to be this much of a BOP?!’ 😂 I have such a hard time picking favorites though. Since All Light is new though I actually have listened to it enough times to pick some 'non-title song favorites’ from there haha
11) Other than All Night (which is great, obvi) I also really like Starry Sky, Moonwalk and Role Play 😂 and Bloom is so pretty oh my god! 😭😭 the album is great and has no bad songs but those are the ones I particularly like. I feel u about the dances honestly. I think that’s actually what drew me to kpop initially. I mean I like listening to the songs ofc but it wasn’t until after I actually watched an MV/saw the choreography that I actually was like… Oh shit I’m gonna have to be a fan now
12) It was the visual aspect that really made me want to be a kpop fan bc I haven’t really seen that level of performance with any western music. Which isn’t to say I think all western music is bad but I think it’s really impressive to watch kpop groups singing and also doing really impressive choreography and performing at the same time. Plus that’s the part I can show my family and say 'even if you don’t like the music because of the language barrier you have to admit they’re talented dancers’
13)And yes! With Astro especially I think the dance practices rlly succinctly capture the reason why I love them so much. They are *super* talented but they also have such great chemistry and u can rlly tell that they just love each other and have so much fun together! I love a family of six hardworking dorks! 🤧💗 lol. And yeah it’s too bad that neither of are able to see them this cb ☹️ (I also did the 'hypothetically…’ research but it wouldn’t have worked out 😒) I hope you’re right though!
14)Hopefully the success of this comeback is the catalyst to Astro getting more of the attention they deserve and there will be many more opportunities to see them in the future! (Although it is too bad we won’t be able to see live performances from this cb, since it’s so pretty 😭 tho with their track record I’m sure future cb’s will be just as good lol) But what about you? Do you have any favorite songs from this cb in particular? Talk again soon! (I’ll try 2 b better @ responding 😭) -AHA
FUCKKK okay so after like a million years of midterms + 2 days straight of sleeping ya girl is BACK to answer these asks after getting through the hurdle of copying and pasting and italicizing 14 asks onto one response on my phone. Did I perhaps fail at least 3 of my midterms? Quite probably. Do I have the energy to care atm? No. Did I need to get away from everything and fly to Boston to visit my friend for reading week? Yes.
How did all your exams go? That sounds crazy though! I hope you got through everything ok!
Tbh I have the same unhealthy habits too, I essentially became nocturnal and lived on like one meal a day + snacks and coffee 😭 fr, I would be writing my midterm from 11:30-1:30, go home to eat, sleep from 4-7pm, then wake up to study all night for the next one, and repeat,,,,, I’m like an actual mess tbh
Honestly as much as I’ve enjoyed the Aroha secret admirer thing (it was sooo nice getting to meet new people) rn I’m just so glad that post-reveal we don’t have to deal with tumblr ask limits and writing entire essay responses all in one go.
Honestly 3 shirts isn’t even THAT bad especially if they weren’t all like ordered from overseas so they wouldn’t have been that expensive. When I went to the Myeongdong underground shopping centre I went craaaazy with Kpop merch despite stanning (at that point, pretty much only) BTS for a whole 3 weeks, so I ended up coming back with 2 albums, a bunch of stickers, a photocard pack (also bonus: got an Astro one too) and like a BUNCH of bt21 stuff. Speaking of, my All Light album finally came in!! I ended up getting a Moonbin, MJ, Jinjin, and Sanha photocard plus the a Rocky lyric booklet and ik I basically got THE best set for someone who loves all of them w my whole heart 😩✊ but I’m still sad I didn’t get any Eunwoo cards since he was my first Astro bias 😭 it’s soooooo pretty I love it sm and like lowkey I’ll probably end up buying more of their albums anyway oopsss
Speaking of Monsta X btw, I heard their new song and I thought it was really good! What did you think of it?
Regarding favourite songs, I swear my moods change so much, so it’s pretty common for me to not love a song at first and sort of rediscover it months later, and tbh that’s kind of what happened with Innocent Love, Baby, and Again. In this album though, I’d say my favourite Bsides are probably be Bloom, 1 in a Million, and Heart Brew Love.
And I toootally agree with the performance aspect of kpop being the thing to attract me it, even before I got really into it I’d sometime like to watch dance practices (and lowkey even learned a bunch of choreos a with my friend last term just bc we had access to a frequently empty dance studio). It’s just super impressive to see people singing and dancing at the same time mostly live, and for the same reasons I’m also super into musicals as well, which isn’t so say I think like lip syncing or just dancing/singing is bad, it’s just refreshing to see it done all at once, you know?
Also side story it turns out that I actually DO know another Astro fan irl!! Her older sister (who I’m closer to bc we’re closer in age) is the one who bought the million got7 albums. Even though she’s been a fan of Astro since before debut, her sister doesn’t even know she listens to kpop since she was afraid of getting roasted at first, but now she’s in too deep to say anything. I’d mentioned liking Astro to her before, but she didn’t say anything bc she didn’t want to expose herself in front of her sister but on Friday I saw her while her sister was out and she was like “oh btw here’s a secret I went to the Toronto fanmeet last year but my sister doesn’t know” I was SHOOK but tbh I’m just super glad now to have someone to talk about it and go to concerts with (I’m banking on the fact that they’re coming back)
Anyway, THANK YOU SO MUCH for waiting 2747287482 million years for my response, and it was so great to finally (officially) meet you Kjersten!

Pt. 3
You stand in front of the mirror and pace back and forth in your bra und underwear. Somehow you are worried about what to wear because 1. It is not really a business meeting and 2. Is it really a date? Low key you want it to be but it might get in the way of working with Daniel on the music video and you don’t want to wreck this amazing chance you got. You try on a cute and casual floral dress and say nah, you go for some cool street wear but that is also not your cup of tea. You end up with regular blue jeans and a white shirt but don’t button it all the way up. You layer on an assortment of necklaces you got from friends as your last birthday present. Not too much cleavage right? No should be fine, only two buttons down. This kind of overthinking makes you crazy and wobbly.
As you arrive to the Chinese restaurant 10 minutes before 8.30pm that has private rooms to eat in, you give your name to the waiter and he responds with: “Oh yes your plus one is already here.” You squeal internally since you had hoped to be there before him. You walk into the door and see Daniel standing up as he sees you and giving you a bright smile. Oh god, he’s so adorable and you basically melt internally once again (girl you aren’t a candle…).
“Hey x/y-ah! You are early too!” He walk over to your chair on the other side and pulls it out. Your heart starts bumping slightly crazier due to his gentleman action while you are sitting down.
You suggest to order since it’s late and it is high time to eat for the both of you. And also to avoid any longer awkward conversations just in case.
“What do you want to eat? I can go with anything besides crustaceous seafood. I am sort of allergic to it.” Says Daniel. In your head you are very much aware of that fact and hold back to say I know since it does feel like you know a wee bit too much about him one-sidedly.
“You go for whatever you want. The check is on me. I’ll take something light because it is so late.”
“Do you want to share something? I will adapt to your liking” and gives you a slight wink. You catch him right away doing that and just stare straight down the menu to avoid any eye contact.
“I’ll take some jjajangmyun noodles and a coleslaw salad. (note: black bean sauce noodles - if you’ve watched *It’s dangerous outside the blanket* you might know that he likes these kind of instant noodles. Cough *pepper accident*)
“Make it two. Seems like we have similar taste” and grins widely. You try to keep a straight face but it isn’t really working out well for you, you can feel it. You sigh and smile at the same time and Daniel catches that.
“What is funny?” makes a slight puppy face.
“N-n-othing… haha… well you are just… uhm very uhm… funny?” mumbling down the last words.
“Wow, I am sorry if I made you flustered or uncomfortable. You seemed always so professional and smooth while you talked so I thought I can talk more easy-going. You know just like friends talk to each other…”
“Well we aren’t actually friends… we barely know each other on a personal level. But this is the industry we are in right?”
“I guess. I’ve heard a lot of good things about you though.”
“Me? From whom?” you are confused.
“Haha I am not supposed to tell you. But I guess, it was Ji Sung Hyung. He always talked so enthusiastically about you how funny and cool you are. All the amazing work you do and also how you just communicate well with everyone around you while you work and also during breaks and stuff. You create a nice working environment. And I felt that too during the short times we met. I could feel it from around.”
Now you definitely are red. You did not expect Daniel to make you like 1000 compliments in under one minute. And god damn you, Ji Sung! How dare he. It felt like he was playing fairy god mother (Wanna One momma since day 1).
“Oh wow. I didn’t know that he thinks like that about me and funny to hear it from someone completely else lol. Anyways you mentioned work. Perfect, tell me about what kind of ideas you have in mind, I am all ears!” and you switch topic because you feel insecure about what you have to say any further about this topic.
“Can we not talked about work?”
You were just taking a sip of your water when you hear that question and choke on it.
“Cough-cough-cough… W-w-w-hat? Whhhhy not?”
Oh sorry are you ok?” says Daniel surprised himself and hands you a napkin.
“Yeah sorry I am fine. Clumsy me.”
“Haha x/y you are full of surprises. Already the second time coughing on a drink.” Daniel finds it very amusing and can’t stop laughing about the same situation that had happened on the phone last time. “How about we also order some beer, I like drinking with friends.”
Confused, you just nod. So we are friends now… okay I guess that’s fair. (gurl go hide your disappointment elsewhere) The evening goes down sort of smoothly than expected and the beer helped a lot. Daniel and you just talked about random stuff and you did end up getting along quite well, finding a lot of common interests. All though you were supposed to talk about work you just exchanged some short ideas but the conversation leaped over to other things quickly. And so the dinner was over faster than expected and it was time to part.
You payed the check even though Daniel insisted. You joked slightly that it was a business dinner technically but a special one since you’d become sort of friends by now. Your guard was all the way down when exiting the restaurant that you had totally forgotten that Daniel is Nation-wide number one idol even if a while ago. A flock of fan girls were waiting around the corner of the restaurant with huge camera and the aura was not pleasant.
Daniel hisses out a “shit” and tried to hide his face last minute with his cap but the fans are fast and they start running towards you two. You have no time to process the situation on and suddenly feel Daniel grabbing your hand and pulling yourself after him. You guys start running down the street. The chase gets intense as the flock of girls start squealing around and keep demanding to let that hand of Daniel go.
You try to think efficiently and the only thing that pops in mind is to take a cab separately. “Daniel, go to the left down the street, there is a bunch of taxis there. Hop into one without me, I will take a separate one and get away as fast as possible man!” you yell at him while huffing from running a half marathon from these fans.
Daniel just sqeezes your hand tighter and gives you thumbs up not being able to turn around from running. He got it, you were glad.
You guys approach the taxi station in quick speed, behind you still an ever following group of angry fan girls…

With the advent of hyper-casual, cross-platform, multiplayer online battle arena games (MOBAs) and live stream culture, a gaming phone is more relevant than ever before. But from the Nokia N-gage days to recent past, this has been a stumbling pursuit and brushed off as pointless. However, that hasn’t stopped a few brands like Nubia, who are steadfast in their resolve. Accordingly, we have come across “truly” gaming smartphones, like the one in this review, that claim a competitive advantage over their mainstream counterparts.
The Nubia Red Magic 3S was launched in India in the latter half of the year. It might have flown under your radar, partly since 2019 witnessed a glut of quality smartphones. Secondly, this ZTE associate is a fairly lesser-known brand in the country. Nonetheless, when the device came across my hands, I decided to give it a try. In fact, I’ve been putting it to the test since then.
So, if it piques the gamer gene in you to know whether this should be a part of your gaming setup, read along. I’ll be sharing my experience over the course of this review.
But before we delve into details, let’s get the specs out of our way.

Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Design and Build
It’s like the Nubia designers let their imagination run wild and came up with this polarizing look. The design resembles something inspired by the Transformers, the movie franchise. Build-wise, it’s a metallic stout that weighs around 215 grams, which is slippery and a bit unwieldy.
But the make is mused over and it’s more than what meets the eye. The choice of metal over glass means better heat dissipation. Although the convex-shaped base acts as a rocking chair when placed on a surface, it offers a nice hold. Rest, everything from the slightly jutting diamond-shaped rear camera to the air intake grill, fingerprint scanner, RBG strip to the logo feels sauce!
To the right, you get two touch-sensitive triggers, an exhaust vent, volume rockers, and the power button. While the left side has the Game Space switch, SIM-card tray, and the connector for the dock station. Nubia has given both a USB-C socket and a 3.5mm audio jack – things we no longer take for granted.
Now, the fancy elements of the Nubia design DNA might very well throw off a casual user. But, Nubia’s aesthetic choices, for all intents and purposes, do stand out from the crowd.
Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Display & Audio
Nubia Red Magic display keeps up with the times. The FHD+ AMOLED panel supports the 90Hz refresh rate. The panel measure 6.65-inches diagonally with an 18:9 aspect ratio. There’s HDR support too.
Needless to say, the display is smooth but the higher refresh rate does cut back on the battery life. Now, if you try to bring it down to 60Hz, you wouldn’t find the option right away. Dig deeper into the Game Space settings, there’s an option to toggle between 60 and 90 hertz. But mind you, this is not applied system-wide, which defeats the point.
The screen legibility is fine at 480 nits under both sun and shade. However, while kept in comparison to some of its peers, we felt it could’ve been a wee bit brighter and sharper. Then there were times when the touch wasn’t as responsive as I wanted it to be. The long presses on the home screen or app drawer to open the menu or drag and drop items went undetected. Call it a one-off thing or even a software bug, but it was weird what so ever. Also, it only has support for Widevine L3 which means you can stream Netflix and Prime in 480p resolution only. Oof!
As for the sound, Red Magic sports dual front-firing speakers. The audio output is alright in terms of loudness and texture. The same is true for headphone sound staging. While I was testing the Skullcandy Sesh (review), the output was clearly finer on the OnePlus 7T (review).
Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Camera
While the industry is pacing to place more and more cameras on their phones, Nubia has stuck to two shooters, one on either side. There’s a 16-megapixel shooter on the front and a 48-megapixel sensor at the back. The camera app is pretty straight forward with an easy to use interface. It comes with a dedicated macro mode, night mode, 48MP mode, and video recording up to 8K (although limited to 15fps), amongst other features.
However, when it comes to real-world performance, the camera pales grossly. The photos lack the detail, texture, and life you expect. In a similar vein, the selfies are gloomy, especially while taken indoor. The faces look overly softened. Lack of OIS means the videos come out jittery. The case is similar when it comes to the Slomo feature. Although it boasts 1920 fps, the result is choppy. Even missing basics like native portrait mode is not appreciated in 2019-20.
Here are some camera samples for your reference –

Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Gaming & Battery Life
Performance is the strongest suit of Red Magic 3S. After all, it’s a gaming phone. It is engined by a Snapdragon 855+ chipset, coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM. Nubia has slapped stock-ish Android on top. This means a bloat-free and smooth experience. But, on the other hand, some of you might not like the baseline AOSP and find it a lil too bland.
But if you ask me, it was right up my alley. The skin is bloat-free, smooth and responsive. Two things that really irked me were – the persistent ‘SIM1 is HD capable‘ notification and every time I tap mobile data QS tile, it took a moment to respond. Oo Yes, gesture navigation and system-wide dark mode are also heavily missed here. For some weird reason, the given Dark Theme failed to work. Plus, Android 9 feels dated when its peers like Asus ROG Phone 2 (review) are already enqueued for the latest Android 10.
The software also plays a big part in the gaming experience. For instance, the Game Space lets you manage your games in one place. It can be toggled on or off using the hardware switch on the top left corner. You can control the fan cooling speed and other game settings, track the performance, block calls and notifications for a focussed gaming session. You even get an option to customize the RGB LED strip at the back.
Here’s a quick rundown its special gaming features –
4D customizable vibrations, the shoulder triggers, action button, and even the fingerprint reader enhances the control and command over the games.
The light strip (which is BTW customizable) might appeal to anyone who’s a sucker for the RGB light.
A second-generation ICE liquid cooling coupled with an actual fan does a good job in heat dissipation.

Red Magic 3S’s impressive performance is reflected in the run of the mill benchmark scores as well –
Benchmark Score AnTuTu 4,95,238 Geekbench Compute OpenCL score 2750 Geekbench Score Single-core 788 Geekbench 5 multi-core 2455 3D Mark Sling Shot Extreme OpenGL ES 6233 3D Mark Sligh Shot Extreme Vulkan 5417
While we are discussing benchmarks, let me interject the storage read and write speeds that have significantly improved on the 3S over its predecessor. Thank Nubia for adopting UFS 3.0 standard and hence the phone manages to hit following R/W speeds –
Sequential Read: 1470.59 MB/s
Sequential Write: 221.84 MB/s
Random Read: 162.31 MB/s
Random Write: 132.46 MB/s
It can handle prolonged heavy loads with no throttling or hiccups. The active cooling via a fan and liquid cooling via the vapor chamber does make a difference. The great replay value it offers is courtesy of that capacious 5K mAh battery. It’s capable of squeezing out two-day worth juice on normal use. And even with long game hours, you are less likely to feel range-anxiety. I just wished it had supported a faster charging. An 18W adapter feels a mismatch for the big battery. Moreover, the bundled power brick feels a little cheap too.

Nubia Red Magic 3S Review: Verdict
Reviewing a gaming phone is a tad different than judging conventional phones. A gamer values and nitpicks on things that would hardly bother the mainstream audience. I state my case with Nubia’s design philosophy. Although the phone is a safe bet on the performance front, you can’t blame one for wishing a less garish look and better ergonomics. Similarly, Nubia could’ve cooked a polished software experience and given versatile and dependable cameras.
The magic it conjures up whilst gaming is appealing for sure. But if that doesn’t excite you, there is hardly anything worth aspiring. At the starting price of Rs. 35,999, one does have more than “good enough” flagship killers. If you can shell out a bit more, there you have the ROG Phone 2.
Nubia Red Magic 3S Review With the advent of hyper-casual, cross-platform, multiplayer online battle arena games (MOBAs) and live stream culture, a gaming phone is more relevant than ever before.

IRMA AN EXPERIENCE
Hi! I am alive and well!
An interesting trip. I write to you this morning from my room on the 39th floor of a Marriott in downtown Atlanta.
Irma scared me. Strange because I have been in Key West for years. For some I stayed, others left. Learned you can handle with no trouble up to a 2. The only bad experience was a tropical storm which sat over Key West for a week.
My home was boarded up. I was alone. Power went out. Had flashlights and candles, food, etc. Basically lived in the dark for a week. No way I could leave. The street under four feet of water. I was alone in the dark so long I even lost the capacity to fantasize.
Irma.
Left Key West tuesday at 4 in the afternoon. Figured I would get a head start. Drove till 9. Stayed over in Pompano.
Had filled the gas tank the day before. Lines long in Key West and up the Keys.
I went alone. Lisa and family opted to wait till wednesday morning to see how things looked. The tracking lines changed overnight. Enough that only some wind and rain will hit Key West. Miami became the target.
I should have waited till wednesday morning.
I was up and out of the motel in Pompano at 6 in the morning wednesday. Needed gas. Thought I was smart. Get to the station early to gas up. Beat the crowds.
No crowds at the gas stations. Went to five. No gas. Screwed! I needed gas!
Figured I would get on the Florida Turnpike and hopefully be able to get gas at a rest stop. On the way to the Turnpike, I was driving thru what I would describe as an extremely economically depressed area. Cars lined up! Gas!
A mob scene. People actually arguing who was next in line. No order. People filling up cans with gasoline.
Filled up and went for the Turnpike. I think the gas was watered or something. Maybe low grade. Sounds stupid!
Traffic bad off and on. Normal traffic. Nothing to do with Irma. Stayed on the Turnpike all the way up thru Florida. Then a route 75 in Georgia.
Traffic horrendous on occasion because of accidents. Close to Atlanta, big city traffic.
I stopped at a Turnpike rest area to gas up. Still had a half a tank. Wanted to be smart, however. The rest area had gas. The lines waiting to gas up horrendous! State police were directing cars into the pumps. From as close as 20 feet away.
I figured a wait time of an hour at least to get gas. Another screw it situation. Decided to drive further. The problem might ease itself. A 100 miles later, no problem. Drove right up to a pump.
People concerned about Irma for 3/4’s of Florida. Then, nothing.
I was falling asleep in heavy traffic in the afternoon. Stopped to eat. End of Florida. I was in Frankfort, NY. The USA 50 plus years ago. Small town people. Chatted with some. They knew little about Irma. Just that it was a hurricane that was going to hit South Florida. Concerned not.
Stopped for gas again early in Georgia. No rest areas. Had to get off 75 and drive down the road to a gas station.
Big station. Long old building. Called the Plantation. A dozen gas pumps in front.
Sort of old, the pumps. I could not figure out where to put the credit card. Went inside. Just what one would expect in countryside Georgia. A lovely lady. Sixtyish. Short and a bit on the heavy side. Pure white hair tied in a ball in the back. Metal rim round glasses. Rosy cheeks.
I told her I would like $20 worth of gas. She said to go pump it and come in and tell her how much afterwards.
Would you believe! People, gas stations trusting each other! I told her when I gave her my card afterwards how I had never had a similar experience in Florida or New York. She look at me with the expression….. Are you for real!
Plantation was a nice store. Countryish. Specialty food items. Honey and fruit cake two examples.
I am 82. I do what I want. Learn what I want. Ignore things I consider a pain.
Never used my cell phone as a travel map guide. Went to Verizon before I left and got educated.
Miracle of miracles! Fantastic! Did not even have to look at it. Just listen to the prompts. Wild!
I definitely would have gotten lost a couple of times without it. Especially when dark and six lanes of traffic each way.
Learned I need an eye examination. Seeing was difficult day and night, with and without glasses.
I did screw up, however.
Was 4 blocks from the Marriott. Could see building with Marriott sign on top. Cell phone went dead. Streets one way, round, triangular, etc. Took me a half hour to figure out how to get to the hotel. Finally stopped at a W. Doorman said take a right, another right and a third right…..You will be there! I was.
Great concierge service. A great deal for $137 a night. I forgot my room number after breakfast. Old age! Thought I was on the 37th floor. Not. 39th. Went downstairs for a new key. Like the airport. Had to go thru security to get it.
I have been to Atlanta several times in the past. The US Center for Disease is located here. My environmental cases took me here a week at a time to review records.
My game plan is to buy a pair of long pants. I only have shorts. A sweater and sweat shirt also. Cool for me outside. High today 70. Plus, I only have a pair of worn out crocs. Look terrific! No longer a big city man! Definitely from Key West!
Then, I want to go to Carter’s Presidential Museum. Passed by it just before phone went dead last night.
Another interesting experience. Men had to wait in line to pee at Florida rest areas. Just like the ladies. 20-30 people lines. Last time I had the experience was when the Carrier Dome opened in the early 1980s and I had to go at half time of a football game. Difficult to go when you have a guy sanding behind you waiting his turn.
I actually enjoyed the trip experience. However, not looking forward to the return trip.
Got to the bar at the Marriott about 11. Needed a few drinks, not food. Met two interesting people. Jennifer and Jim. No relationship. Thirtyish. In Atlanta on business. Bored them with stories for which I apologize.
Jennifer a financial wizard with Pricewaterhoue. Jim a software guru.
Technology and Louis do not go hand in hand. Age the problem. Not brought up mechanically dependent. Barbara just called and said I should use Uber to get around. My phone not set up yet. She walked me thru it. I’m like a little kid! Can’t wait to use it!
Thank you to those who wrote and invited me to share their homes. Good people all.
Enjoy your day!
