it's been extremely weird watching my parents (whom i love but are not, historically speaking, uhhh particularly progressive ppl) become more & more chill with gay/trans/etc rights over time
whereas a subset of "left" luminaries i used to look up to have become totally deranged with fascinating new forms of worms-eating-their-brains bigotry wrt trans stuff in particular
idk what the deal is there but man i hope the former set wins out in the long run
