Rise Ramblings #351

One of my favorite things about Rise is the utilization of nicknames in the show. This is the first iteration of the TMNT that really dived deep into nicknaming the boys. ❤️🧡💙💜

Timeline for the Wiz!Au (Because I can)

Ok so recently I started ploting and writing the next instalment for the Wiz!Au and Have been looking back at the timeline I made for myself. I also realize that If you dont read every post for this au you might not get it

Which is fine, Its not really that important to understand the story, But I also put a lot of effort into in and more reaserch then I should have to get the results I got. So anyways here is the Comprehensive Timeline for the WIZ! X DC au.

Oct. 29th 2018: Hank Pym goes into the quantam realm and brings back the Zombie apocolyps

Oct. 30th 2018: The Avengers are called in to deal with the Zombie infestation. Since its spooky season, the U.S goverment has managed to keep the outbreak on the downlow, with only a few people (Like the Avengers) know about this.

They end up dying

Oct. 31st 2018 (Halloween): The whole day was weird in it of itself but everyone brushed it off as part of the holiday. The is when the breakout reaches New York.

Nov. 6th 2018: Exacally one week after the outbreak leaves 99.9% of New York undead. Peter is one of the Survivors and the few others are too hidden for him to find, leaving him all alone.

Dec. 1st 2018: Bucky Barnes arrives in New York and finds Peter.

Dec. 14th 2018: The rest of the surviving group find Peter and Bucky. With their arival, they are able to locate more survivors in the city that Peter was unable to find due to him not leaving Queens that much. They end up finding other Vigilantees (Other heros au)

May. 26th 2019: Bruce Banner arives on Earth and the events of the Episode happen. (Over a longer period of time)

May. 31st 2019: Peter and possible Co. Are sent to the DCU.

Jun. 1st 2006: Thrown into a diffrent universe Peter makes a deal with Loki to help him find his friends.

The timeline of this universe will be 2006 because of when I want the DCU timeline to sort of take place. The story takes place around a year after the events of UTRH give or take a few months (more take then give honestly). Jason (the character) was revived in 2005. Thats when the story happend so its the year the events of UTRH will take place. So the fic with take place one year later.

Jun. 4th 2006: Peter arrives in Gotham and finds a place to live

Jun. 18th 2006: Peter Meets his neighbor (Start of the fic Im currently working on)

Aug. 9th 2006 (Peters birthday) : turning point in the story and end of the first chunk of the story.

And thats all for now. Thats all that matters at least. It dosent really tell you everything but it dose sort of lays out dates and important events for anyone that was intrested.

Anon Project Round 2

Some of you may remember back in winter 2017-2018, when I did this thing to spread some love through the anon ask option we've got here on tumblr. Well, I did the same thing again, back in winter 2020-2021, though instead of just one month, I did it for two months. From the 1st of December 2020, until the 31st of January 2021.

Every day, I sent the message "Hi. I love you. 🤍" to one blog each day. I wanted them to know they're loved.

Now, I know tumblr sometimes eats asks, so maybe not everyone that I planned to give love to actually got their messages, and this roundup will therefore serve as a reminder to all of you that yes, I do love you. Even now, 2.5 years later.

Title: White Rabbit Cude and his armored v [Nu]

Damn, sharing my 'Cuteness Defender' artwork is been a while, since months ago. But, here I am. 😉 So, here's my throwback for Gundam Char's Counterattack's 30th Anniversary, in 2018. 🥳🤖

Gonna give credit to Romulus907's Gen 2 Cuteness Mecha uniforms. 😊👍 Because, I could be used for Cude's 2nd uniform - the Nu Uniform. With two different Nu logos on the right side; The "White Rabbit Nu" on the left and the "Rabbit Head Nu" on the right. These two logos I made were quite inspired from the original Nu and Hi-v Gundam. 😁🐇🤖⚪⚫🔴

Like-wise, his v uniform can now access his powerful "Cuteness Mecha Armor". An armor that has 6 Fin-Funnel remote weapons to control from his forehead, and it can access his Psycoframe mode from his whole armored body. The armored "Νν" - or in some Roman alphabet(s) for "Nu". 😄

IMORTANT NOTE: Cude's Nu uniform was updated, since 2022. So, I can't choose which is the best? So, time will tell... 😅🤷‍♀️

Armament(s):

• 60mm Vulcan Gun Mounted in the head, these shell firing weapons have a high-rate of fire but little power and can't damage the thick armor of a mobile suit, though it can damage lightly armored areas such as the sensors. The weapons are ideal for shooting down small, lightly armored targets such as missiles, small vehicles, etc.

• Beam Saber The ν armor has a standard-issue beam saber stored on its left forearm, which can be drawn quickly to attack enemies in close range. Compared to earlier models, it is more energy efficient due to the 'Auto Power On' feature, which enables the saber to instantaneously generate a beam blade only during moments of impact with enemy suits.

• Large Beam Saber Stored on the backpack, it presumably has a higher power rating (0.85 MW) than the beam saber stored on the left forearm and is used more often. The large beam saber's pommel is capable of emitting a short beam blade on its end, but it is never seen used.

• Beam Rifle A high-powered beam rifle with a output of 3.8MW. At maximum output, the beam fired is comparable in power to that of a battleship-class main cannon from the same time period. Can also function as a beam machine gun.

• New Hyper Bazooka The ν armor is armed with a 280mm five round magazine hyper bazooka that has improved firing range and destructive power compared to the Hyper Bazooka used by other Earth Federation. The bazooka can be fired even when stored on the backpack, catching the opponent by surprise. It is capable of destroying an enemy unit in a single shot and is mostly used to take out slow, heavily armored targets.

• Shield A custom shield emblazoned with Amuro's emblem. It features a built-in 7.8 MW beam cannon and four missiles. Amuro uses it in many strategic ways, such as fooling enemies that he was shot down by leaving the shield and the New Hyper Bazooka, and attacking enemies once they lower their guards. Attached to the left arm's beam saber compartment.

• Fin Funnel A remote weapon unique to the ν armor. Despite their name, the fin funnels are in function "bits", since they have built-in generators rather than the E-caps used by funnels. While this made them much more expensive to construct, this had the enormous benefit of giving the fin funnels a tremendously long operational time. Circling the battlefield on their own, the fin funnels could be utilized in far more creative and strategic ways than standard funnels. Model number: AEV/PFF93AR.

The actual beam fired by the fin funnels was also more powerful, given that they are emitted by a generator instead of an E-cap, allowing for better performance compared to Zeon's funnels. The fin funnels also had the ability to generate a unique beam shield, known as a "fin funnel barrier", to protect against both beam weaponry and solid projectiles. Although the fin funnels proved incredibly effective and flexible in purpose, they were also much larger than the standard funnel, making them easier targets to shoot down. With the help of the Psycoframe technology, Cude can control the fin funnels with his thoughts more effectively.

• Beam Machine Gun Originally the standard armament of AMS-119 Geara Doga, the beam machine gun is capable of rapid firing beam shots and is powered by a replaceable e-pac. The beam machine gun is available in two different version, with one version can be optionally equipped with a underslung grenade launcher.

Special Equipment(s) / Feature(s):

• Birdlime Launchers Fires an adhesive substance from the hands that can be used to repair small cracks in colony wall or to restrain soldiers on foot.

• Dummy Launchers Stored in the hands the launchers can deploy mobile suit sized dummy balloons as a decoys.

• Psycoframe Cude's v armor is composed of microscopic Psycommureceptors that allows him to control the suit as if it is their own body. A psycommu receiver is located at his v-fin antenna head, once the green is litting his whole armor opens mechanism to release the Psychoframe from shoulders, torso to his feet, a transformation mechanism takes inspired of the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam's NTD Destroy Mode. It also features airmats that are used in case of impact.

1. October has the most birthdays, with a total of 19 warframes. I reckon this is because the game came out with 8 frames on October 25th.

2. January has the least, with only 3 warframes. I reckon this is because everybody is doing their New Year's resolutions and wouldn't want to waste time trying to craft a new warframe.

3. December has the most prime warframes, at 7 total, but May has the highest concentration at ~71% prime. I was born in May so I was desperate for a fun fact.

4. The wiki said there was 103 warframes, but I only found 102 so I made a fake one to get the right number. I hope I don't still think that's a funny joke tomorrow morning, and then spend several weeks learning about character design just so I can 3D model it.

Dec. 5, 1973: Band on the Run released

In Dec. 1973, Paul McCartney and Wings best album (possibly the best Non-Beatle album he did) was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 50th BOTR!

Dec. 6, 1968: Beggars Banquet released

In Dec. 1968, the 9th U.S. album from The Rolling Stones. Earlier this year I got to review the Record Store Day reissue of the album. I'd definitely put this up there with Let It Bleed and Exile on Main Street in the pantheon of Classic Stones albums. Happy 55th BB!

Dec. 6, 2013: Inside Llewyn Davis opens

In Dec. 2013, the Coen Brothers' criminally underrated folk musician epic was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 10 ILD!

Dec. 10, 1993: Wayne's World 2 opens

In Dec. 1993, the sequel to Wayne's World was released! It might not be as loved as the original, but it is better than people think. I wrote about this in 2018 and director Stephen Surjik wrote me back with some thoughts. In 2022, I saw it on the big screen at Nice, a Fest. Happy 30th WW2!

Dec. 10, 2003: Big Fish opens

In Dec. 2003, one of Tim Burton's most underrated movies was released. Taking Burton's visual style and combining it with a family drama with fantasy elements was a gamble that paid off. It's something that feels new each time I've seen it since. Happy 20th Big Fish!

Dec. 11, 1998: Rushmore and A Simple Plan both open

In Dec. 1998, two of my favorite movies from that year opened on the same day. Here is my piece I wrote about Wes Anderson's film and Sam Raimi's film. Happy 25th Rushmore an ASP!

Dec. 12, 1973: The Last Detail opens

In Dec. 1973, Hal Ashby (who was on a roll at the time) had one of his best released. It was one of the great movies of the 70s. It was also one of my Top 5 Boston Movies of All Time! Jack Nicholson was in rare form as he and Otis Young played Navy men transporting younger sailor Randy Quaid to the NH Navy prison and showing him a good time along the way. Happy 50th TLD!

Dec. 14, 1988: I'm Gonna Git You Sucka opens

In Dec. 1988, Keenan Ivory Wayans' 70s LOL comedy opened. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 35th IGGYS!

Dec. 14, 2018: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse opens

In Dec. 2018 one of the best Spider-Man movies was released. I actually named it my #7 Movie of 2018! By diving into the Miles Morales storyline, they took the Spider-Man story we all know so well and made it seem new again. Just last Summer they released the awesome sequel: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released. Happy 5 S-M:ITS-V!

Dec. 15, 1978: Superman opens

Speaking of super hero movies: In Dec. 1978 one of my favorite big screen Superman movies was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 45th Superman!

In Dec. 1993, one of Steven Spielberg's finest works was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 30th SL!

Dec. 16, 1988: Rain Man opens

In Dec. 1988, the Oscar-winning Best Picture and biggest grossing film of 1988 was released. With the exception of parodies (i.e. The Hangover's Vegas gambling scene), nobody talks about this as much. The road movie of long lost brothers one autistic (Dustin Hoffman) and the other selfish used-car guy (Tom Cruise) was actually quite touching. Sure it was the 80s feel-good movie era and whatnot, but the performances were among both actors' best. Happy 35 RM!

Dec. 17, 1973: Sleeper opens

In Dec. 1973, one of the funniest movies ever made about the future was released. Woody Allen was in his prime when he played a man who is cryogenically frozen in 1973 and is defrosted 200 years later. This is definitely one of his funniest ones. Happy 50th Sleeper!

Dec. 17, 1993: The State premieres

In Dec. 1993, the now-legendary sketch comedy series of NYC comedy group The State premiered on MTV. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Earlier this Fall, I actually got to see The State reunion tour when it was in Boston. Happy 30th TS!

Stuff I'm Looking Forward to in October

Can't believe it is now Q4 of 2023! In addition to Columbus Day (Oct. 9), Indigenous Peoples' Day (Oct. 9) and Halloween (Oct. 31), here is what's on my radar this month:

Movies:

The Exorcist: Believer

Using the same approach as 2018's Halloween, which was a direct sequel to the 1978 original, the same director David Gordon Green is doing a direct sequel to the 1973 horror classic The Exorcist. I would call myself cautiously optimistic (2018's Halloween rocked, Halloween Kills was bad, and Halloween Ends was somewhere in between), but with original star Ellen Burstyn back, hopes are higher than the past Exorcist sequels, prequels and TV series. Opens 10/6.

The Royal Hotel

In 2020, I was lucky enough to interview Kitty Green, director of The Assistant. Now she's back with a thriller with her Assistant star Julia Garner. Opens 10/6.

Killers of the Flower Moon

Martin Scorsese's 3.5 hour epic about the FBI investigation into murders in the Osage Nation in 1920s Oklahoma is THE most anticipated movie of 2023. Hands down! Opens 10/20.

The Holdovers 

An Alexander Payne movie is always a big deal, even when the movie is a letdown (i.e. Downsizing). Here, he reunites with his Sideways star Paul Giamatti for a dramedy about a New England boarding school in 1972. I'm there! Opens 10/27.

Film Festivals:

IFFBoston Fall Focus

My favorite film festival is Independent Film Festival Boston, which takes place in the Spring. IFFBoston’s mini-fest Fall Focus happens in the Fall to showcase some of the Fall festival darlings before they get released during end of the year Awards Season. This year's Fall Focus is from Oct. 19-22 at the Brattle Theatre in Harvard Square.

Ringo Starr Rewind Forward

In the last few years Sir Ringo Starr has been knocking out killer EPs including 2021's Zoom In and Change the World (both were included on my Best Albums of 2021 list) and last year's EP3 (read my review here). Now he is back with a new EP that features a collaboration with his former Beatle bandmate Paul McCartney! EP drops 10/13. (Review to come).

In addition to his "day job" as the guitarist for Foo Fighters and his Walking the Floors podcast, Chris Shiflett has released some solid solo albums. I was lucky enough to see him do a solo show at City Winery in Boston in 2018 (read my concert review here) and review his 2019 album Hard Lessons. His new solo album drops 10/20. (Review to come).

The Rolling Stones Hackney Diamonds

The Stones are releasing their first studio album since 2016 and first of original material since 2005. Expectations are high and the good news is they did some recording with Charlie Watts before he died in 2021. Special guests include former Stones bassist Bill Wyman, Paul McCartney, Elton John and Lady Gaga. Album drops 10/20.

Dhani Harrison INNERSTANDING

I was a big fan of Dhani Harrison's 2017 album IN//PARALLEL (read my review here) and after some soundtrack work and overseeing Dark Horse Records (started by his father George), he is back with a new album. Digital release on 10/20, and physical release coming 2/9/2024.

Nirvana In Utero 30th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition

Last month marked the 30th anniversary of Nirvana's third and final studio album. Back in 2013, I picked up the 20th anniversary edition. Much like the 2021 edition of Nevermind, they aren't just re-releasing the same reissue, they are re-releasing the In Utero album remastered along bonus tracks and some live selections, a Dec. 1993 concert in L.A. and a Jan. 1994 concert in Seattle (not to be confused with the Live and Loud concert from Dec. 1993). Various editions drop 10/27.

Nelson and Alex Demille Blood Lines

My good friend Alex DeMille collaborated with his father who happens to be Nelson DeMille on 2019's The Deserter. Now they are back with a new book due 10/10.

Bob and Erin Odenkirk Zilot & Other Important Rhymes

Speaking of parent and child book collaborations, one of my favorite actor/writers Bob Odenkirk has written a children's book illustrated by his daughter Erin. When I covered Bob Odenkirk's Hasty Pudding Man of the Year Award at Harvard University earlier this year, he briefly mentioned this. Book release on 10/10.

John Carpenter's Suburban Screams

John Carpenter hasn't directed a movie since 2010's The Ward (written by my pals the Rasmussen brothers), but he's been keeping plenty busy making music with his son Cody and Godson Daniel Davies (read some of my reviews here). Now he is directing an original series premiering on Peacock on 10/13.

Alf: the Complete Series

The folks at Shout Factory are releasing a definitive DVD collection of every episode of Alf (1986-1990), the Alf Animated Series (1987-1990), Alf Tales (1988-1990) and the 1996 TV movie Project: Alf (read my recent blu-ray review here). For fans like me, this is very exciting and they even have some bells-and-whistles in various editions being released on 10/17.
