Partly due to your magnificent Rumbelle fic for it, I watched the Great British Bake-Off. (Well, more like devoured...) Now I have a burning need to know how Love Is a Layered CAke!Belle and Gold are doing. Are they well? Are they warm? Did he get invited bake for holiday baking?

“I still can’t believe that you turned it down.”

Gold did not pay any attention to Aunt Elvira’s chastisement and just kept watching the TV. The entire family was gathered together in the living room to watch the Great Christmas Bake-Off, with steaming mugs of hot chocolate and an impressive selection of cakes and cookies of their own to tuck into. Belle shook out some blankets and settled on the sofa beside Gold, pressing in close to his side. 

“I don’t think that it would have been very ethical considering he’s now married to one of the judges,” Bae pointed out. “Besides, we all know he’s amazing, there’s no need for him to prove himself again.”

“Exactly.” Belle kissed Gold’s cheek. 

As the programme started, Gold found himself remembering his time on the competition fondly. He may not have won, but it had brought him and Belle together, and that was a far better prize.

Meeting Tuesday 10.30- assessment criteria, writing your proposal

You must attend as I will outline vital information!

Writing the Proposal

Now you have selected a suitable starting point, it’s time to write you Final Project Proposal (FPP).  This has been emailed out to you.  Your FPP should provide a clear proposal of your intended final project work. Devising your own project brief you should build on the experiences of the previous 6 units and reflect your personal interest and chosen specialism. As part of your proposal you should present a structured time plan that indicates how you will make effective use of your time and identity key evaluation points.

•An initial bibliography will also be required to demonstrate your understanding of the importance of contextualising and developing your ideas

•The FPP is an agreement between you and your Tutor about why and what you are going to do to fulfill the requirements of Unit 7 and how you plan to achieve this.

•You must reflect the learning outcomes and assessment criteria in your FPP and make sure your project is realistic and achievable.

Common problems

•Expressing ideas in written form

•Playing safe – not experimental in nature

•Lacking ambition or too ambitious

•Not building on previous units or projects

•Lacking critical thinking context

•Lacking a concept

Be imaginative and think laterally – jot down any associations, links or ideas that spring to mind.

•Do not narrow your project ideas down before you have even started.

•Where or what, could you visit for inspiration for drawing or photographs?  Use your drawing book to the full

A first draft of the FPP needs to be handed in on the first Thursdayl 22 March for me to check.  We will  then check it and approve it.  Remember, without a merit/distinction in theses early stages, you will only ever get a Pass grade.

Digital Matters: The earth behind the screen Launch Night: Thursday 2 November, 6pm-8pm Exhibition Continues: 3 November 2017 – 4 February 2018 – Join us for the launch of our new exhibition, Digital Matters, a group show exploring the relationship between the natural and the technological through artworks produced in Hong Kong, China and the UK. Featuring: Lin Ke, MAP Office, Ellen Pau, Dani Ploeger, Unknown Fields and Yang Yongliang.

Digital Matters Symposium Friday 3 November 2017, 10:30am-5pm, University of Salford. £4/8. Lunch provided. Booking Required. – The Digital Matters Symposium will host a debate around the interconnectivity of technology, nature and art. The symposium gives the opportunity to reflect on the paradoxical relationship between advancements in technology and environmental destruction. The role new media artworks play in developing our understanding of this relationship will be discussed.

Drop in. – Mandarin Corner is an informal monthly workshop for those with an interest in learning more about Mandarin language and broader Chinese culture. Film Night: Cao Fei’s Haze & Fog Thursday 16 November. 6pm-7:30pm. University of Salford. Free. Booking Required. – Haze & Fog (2013) takes on the popular zombie movie genre to explore contemporary society in China. Cao Fei’s film was the first co-commission between CFCCA and the University of Salford Art Collection. Watch a short trailer here.

A Window On: Rare Earths Thursday 30 November. 6pm-7:30pm. £4. Booking Required. – Artists Lise Autogena and Joshua Portway present Kuannersuit; Kvanefjeld (2016), a film investigating the conflicts facing Narsaq in southern Greenland, one of the richest rare earth mineral resources in the world and the 5th largest uranium deposit site. *CFCCA is open until 8pm on the last Thursday of every month #ThursdayLate.

YOUTHLAB

Youthlab Every Tuesday. 5-7pm. Free. Drop in – Youthlab is open to young people aged 14-19. Take part in workshops, meet artists & gallery staff, visit other cultural spaces, research things that interest you and share your skills with others.
