i so often see people say "lolita should have been written from dollys perspective" and while i understand the sentiment (apart from the fact that its a stupid argument because a book from dollys perspective would be a completely different book and not fulfil any of the narrative functions "lolita" does) what annoys me here is... THOSE BOOKS EXIST. but theyre not going to become cultural juggernauts overnight, not even the good ones. you have to actually seek them out and read them.

i started looking for lolita adjacent books a year ago and i could name you 5 lolita "spin-offs" off the top of my head, NOT counting 'los diary' because that one sucks or 'my dark vanessa' bc at least that one is fairly well-known (roger fishbite, molly, journal de L, LO, darling river) . i could immediately name you another five non-lolita csa books from the victim/survivor pov that i personally read and liked (mysterious skin, lullabies for little criminals, a good chunk of the george miles cycle, flying in place, gemma) as well as another five that i didn't love but that had redeeming features (living dead girl, a little life, such a pretty girl, tricks, the day before)

this isn't even counting books that interrogate the gender stereotypes in perpetrator narratives (any man, tampa) or books taking the pov of children trying to cope with abuse they cant conceptualise even if they arent directly experiencing sa (room) or the nonfiction book about the horner case (the real lolita), the fictionalisation thereof (rust & stardust) or memoirs heavily featuring lolita (being lolita, excavation).

this is just stuff i found in the last year (as someone who usually avoids drama, ya, romance and crime novels) and i have probably 50 more on my tbr. these books are not hard to find, definitely not in the age of goodreads, but we do actually have to look for them and talk about them if we want to highlight these types of narratives in the cultural discourse instead of attacking another book that happened to get famous for not being something completely different.

Strawberry: Oh wow- Give a guy a little head's up next time. The most innocent about it and just says you look amazing and leaves it there - until he realizes you may want something in return.

Vanilla: Unexpected, but she's not one to complain nor waste opportunity. If she's in a position to, she'll send you a photo back with compliments straight out of romance novel (possibly one she had on hand)

Milk Tea: About time, but secondly how dare you not be around to take care of what you've caused. Demands you drop whatever you're doing and come over - if he's not speeding to your location instead

Ginger: Is in her shop twenty four seven and probably injures herself getting to her phone. Sends you a picture of her bandaged hand and two simple words "Send more."

Rootbeer: Eyes bulging out of his head, heart stopping. Cowboy will sprint to the nearest drugstore to find a pair of glasses that'll work for the time to see you in all your glory. At the end of it, he just sends a picture of his empty bed and "your place, or mine?"

Cherry: "I was in need of some motivation for practice. If only I could have the real thing though" You hear her skates at your door not even a minute later

Spice: "Dear, please. You are gorgeous as always, but I am working." Acts civilized, but the second the bar is clear he's rushing to the back to rub one out and go into heavy detail about what thoughts your photos conjured throughout the day.

Oat: "That's nice, love." Leaves it there or she would go into how lovely you'd look tied up.

Chocolate: "On my way. Move or put any clothes on and we'll have a problem."

Banana: Leaves you on read. This isn't malicious by any means, Banana is just easily flustered and has never seen anyone naked before. Compliments the wall behind you and hates herself for it later.

Peach: Responds with pictures of her in some lingerie she had conveniently lying around. The second you get that "Omw" text is when she's right outside your window.

Cotton Candy: Uses your nudes for reference in their art or starts commenting on what paints would go well on you since it's pretty hard to paint with one hand.

Eggnog: Very conflicted. High chance they're living in your attic during this and they don't know what to do. Should they go down? No - you would've said so in your message. Do you want to see them? No - they aren't pretty like you. Eventually works up to courage to send you a picture of them shirtless just to see where things go

Screamsicle: Sends you a picture of one of their skeletons dressed in one of the sexy costumes they've made along with a cheesy pick up line. This is to distract they're afraid of what you'll say if they send you pictures of themself as they are a bit self conscious about being one of the smallest height and muscle wise hybrids... and you're the hottest person they've ever seen

Mint: Sends a few emojis and a picture of themselves naked plain and simple. Some stuff about you sitting on their face later in conversation too

Apple: Please don't make the doctor horny at work. Their thoughts are on you enough already. If you send nudes during work they'll have no choice but to close shop early because they're too caught up on your photos. After hours are free game and they will be at your door momentarily

Licorice: Calls you so you can hear what your little offering is doing for him. That's what you wanted, right? Depending on the day, those sounds might even come from inside your closet.

Lately I've been reading/playing "I Wani Hug That Gator!" It's a western "romance" visual novel, with choices that will impact how the MC and the female love interest evolve throughout their high school senior year. It's really damn good; that title do be right, I do Wani Hug the Gator!

To summarise the plot, you play as Inco G. Nito, a human high schooler from the far far past of 201M2023 BC who just moved to a city full of dinosaurs and enrolled in a school renowned for its artist student body. There, you learn to open up and make friends, including Olivia, the titular gator, a disabled girl, as withdrawn as she is artistically talented. Will you manage to get her to open up to you, and have a memorable last year of high school?

The bad endings (one of which I got on my first try) are frankly heartbreaking, but it goes to show the quality of the writing..... You end up caring about the characters a lot, and the reactions characters have to one another are very realistic in how unintentionally hurtful they can be, but there's also lots of silly positive moments.

I'm omw to the good endings, though! It's a really sweet game. Perhaps 4chan VNs are not a lost art....

Give it a try, it's fairly short and easy to get into, even if you're not a scalie ;) you can get it on Steam and try the free demo!

Ok so here's my success story

Joined loablr 1½ yrs ago life was normal for me and I was comfortable in my circumstances so I never really applied it, I was always scared if changes so i just read posts after posts from a+p to void to states i overconsumed so much that I forgot what it truly was. I never truly persisted and i didn't even believed it. But then last April my worst luck hit and life started going downhill in every area i could imagine. I failed all my exams, gained weight and started hating myself, my friends left me I was completely outcasted and the worst part i had to keep all my despair to myself because I wasn't allowed to vent. My father lost his job and became super short tempered he'll scold me for everything and for my mum everyday the disappointment I saw in her eyes broke me. I was still skeptical of the law but this time I had nothing to lose...

So first i wanted to manifest my life without void because i had saw the void obsession and i knew if I would start now i too would be omw obsessed with it. So i decided to start loa from the basis.I first read Pink's doubt post i read it till i convinced myself that loa and void all were real. After that I compiled your how i manifest, su's loa basics post,Rosie's void doc and Raven's revision post. I then logge off Tumblr. I made a routine for myself taking inspiration from your post and Rosie's doc. And Raven's revision post made me confident that nothing was impossible.

Every morning I would affirm for void concept and self concept i didn't wanted to get obsessed with anything and struggle more by putting them on pedestal. When I had nothing to do I would vaunt while listening to baejin and Roy's subs. I logged off from every social platform and just completely focused on myself.It's like superrrrr hot here in summers so I would usually take naps in afternoons and that time I used for SATS. And at night I would do breathing exercises and would affirm to wake up in void state.

After 12-13 days i felt such a huge shift in my life like my dad started being super nice to me and mum was actually motivating me and taking me out on walks to cheer me up just like i visualised in SATS!!! This boosted my confidence so muchhhhh!!!! I was sure about my abilities my self concept was also amazing and I was manifesting small things here and there but i hadn't entered void till now. So i read Pink's post again and then Rosie's void doc this relaxed me and motivated me to keep persisting in my new story and the next night i entered the void state!!!!! It was so relaxing and calming and I felt so safe. It was just like how i thought it would be baby blue with sparkling stars everywhere!!!!! I felt so light and happy.... After staying for some time i affirmed for my desires stayed there for some more time and then came out.

Now the fun stuff i manifested

First— i woke up in my room!!!!! But in my old story i shared my room with my parents but here i was in my room that looked exactly like my Pinterest boards!!! Honestly I just laid there for 15-20 min i don't know why but i was crying??😅😅 I still don't understand it maybe because i always wanted a space for my own where i could just release all my emotions and always being surrounded by people i just learnt to swallow my emotions and remain stoic but on this day i just released myself i was so proud of me for sticking through and becoming the success story i wanted to be.okay...... not going too indepth in other things now otherwise it'll become a novel now😆

2) I was my desired weight and had my complete desired appearance. I felt so confident on seeing myself in the mirror.

3) My dad getting his job back and now having a big big promotion for the relentless work he did for the past 20 yrs.He is the senior of the guy who fired him on false charges hihi guess who got fired next😜😜

4) Passing all my exams with A+ and getting into my desired school it's a private school only for rich kids i always wanted to attend one so now I am attending it😎

5) Having amazing IQ and photograpjic memory.

6) We have an amazing house of ours now it is so big and beautiful 😻😻😻 it also has a big lawn outside.

7) Being the popular girl of my school those friends who ditched me are now begging to be in my group but you see I'm the popular girl and not the mean girl so they are not welcomed here 😎🤓😎

I manifested many many more desires and now I'm so so happy everyday is a blessing for me. And I just want to thank you and all the bloggers here you all are a ray of hope in our lives. I love you so much and will always remain thankful to you,Rosie, Pink,Sue and every other blogger who helped me. You all are amazing people and you all deserve the world.

I read two books to completion, a mystery novel recced by coworkers and a memoir by a doctor from Gaza who lost his daughters in a bombing (omw to return this to the library as I post) but a decent deal of short stories. I should finish stitch in time just to have it done by the year

BLOG UPDATE: After Cor Regnum Diverge's first episode, "March of the Fools, Part I", is fully completed I'll be posting it on AO3 and Wattpad. Never posted on either website before though. The episode SHOULD be finished sometime during the first or second week of December.

Aside from that, I'm returning to writing LIFTED which will be on Wattpad once the first full episode is finished. I'm also planning on designing a website for Orange Moon Works where full episodes, chapters, and even future novels can be read for free via PDF. Might take a while for that to happen though. Until then I'll keep posting my works to the OMw blog, Wattpad, and AO3.

So I was thinking about fucked up dystopia novels I read in middle school, & I don't know if you're familiar with the "unwind"/"unwound" books but I've been thinking about an AFTG AU that borrows some of its world building.

The long story short of the world building is that kids within a certain age group are able to be essentially dismantled for parts (organ donation, yes, but also limbs, etc. The idea is as much of the body is kept technically alive as possible) with their parents say-so (or as a consequence of not being exceptional enough, if you're a ward of the state), and then there's some philosophy stuff with muscle memory & such that really wigged me out. The first novel centers on a boy on the run hoping to avoid this fate.

Anyway. Consider. (I am sure from this brief description you can see some of the potential that such an AU might have for AFTG, and that's only the surface of it. This ask brought to you by: I do not know anyone whom I can foist this terribly fucked up concept at, and so I am inflicting it upon you.)

it’s a quiet night, dressed down, with ambience outside. there’s an occasional stray cat, a passing-by car honking, but it’s all normal. akaashi simply continues scrolling on his phone before laying it screen-side down on his nightstand so he can return to reading the book in his lap. you’re slouched halfway down with your laptop on your stomach, eyes unmoving as they take in the pixels on the screen. 

he appreciates the domesticity of this moment, feeling so content that he gets this every night. he’s lucky enough in this world to have someone to call his own and hold, to kiss in the mornings and brush his teeth with, to prepare breakfast for, to give a peck on the lips (maybe three or seven) before bustling out the door, to send a “omw home” message--

the little things that he’s learned to appreciate and tries his best to never taken advantage of. he’s human and imperfect at the very least, but akaashi trusts you to reel him in whenever he’s being a bit of a dunce. losing you is quite near the top of the ‘personally undesirable’ list, and it’s gonna stay that way for a while. 

at first, your sniffle scares him and rips him out of his novel’s enchantment. just as he suspected, your eyes are teary and your chest breathes heavily. you’re undoubtedly doing your best to keep your snot away from the sheets, but he’s just concerned of -- “what’s wrong?”

at his question, you sniffle even louder, slamming the space bar to pause whatever you were watching and remove your earbuds. the look you give him is not one to say that you were genuinely upset about a specific matter, but one full of poise and passion. “you know that really famous mendelssohn violin concerto? it goes -- sniffs -- duhhh duh duh, duh da daaah duh, doo doo doo doo doo doooo.”

to be honest, he’s not 100% sure but it sounds vaguely familiar and you’ve probably made him listen to it at some point. akaashi has an idea of where you’re going with this, but simply nods and continues to let you speak.

“it’s just...so beautiful,” your voice cracks at the end as more tears spill. “i’m only a MINUTE in and my heart already hurts so bad, and i don’t care how many times i’ve listened to this whole concerto, it’s just so good and i can’t get over it keiji!” you’re almost full-on sobbing at this point, and keiji can’t help the little smile that breaks through his complexion. this is just one of many little things he loves about you, and mentions as such when he reaches over to help wipe your tears with a tissue from his nightstand. 

“it’s just not fair!” you blubber and take the tissue when keiji is done getting everything he can reach. “no business being so goddamn beautiful and heart-wrenching and fun all at the same time, no fucking business--”

“i’ll listen with you, and we can both cry together,” he chuckles, taking your farthest earbud. “i have a rule against letting my princess cry alone.”

it’s not exactly on his list of usual pastimes, but knowing how much you enjoy these moments, doing things that appeal to you, holding your hand in the process and occasionally pressing kisses to your knuckles or your forehead -- he understands the gratitude in the squeeze around his fingers.

this is love, for him and you.
