Karo Tribe. The Karo, which number only about 3,000 people, mainly live on the practice of flood retreat cultivationon the banks of the Omo River in southwestern Ethiopia. The Karo excel in face and body painting, practiced in preparation of their dances and ceremonies, they decorate their bodies, often imitating the spotted plumage of a guinea fowl. Feather plumes are inserted in their clay hair buns to complete the look. The clay hair bun can take up to three days to construct and is usually re-made every three to six months. Their painted facemasks are spectacular. Karo women scarify their chests to beautify themselves. Scars are cut with a knife and ash is rubbed to produce a raised welt. Being the smallest tribe in the area, this group obviously struggles which direct threats from nearby tribes that have more gun power, greater numbers, and likely coalitions with one another. #omoriver #ethiopia #ethiopianwomen #tribeculture #tribestyle #tribaljewelry #tribes #tribal #travelphotography #travelgram #travel #documentaryphotography #documentary #scarification #beautification #facepainting #faces #portraitphotography #jewelry #beadsjewelry @ingetje_tadros - from my archive- (at Omo Valley Ethiopia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAcSvbGg1qd/?igshid=p54a2awg221g

#WhatisyourHistory Do Research. Post from @africanceremonies - OMO RIVER PEOPLES | ETHIOPIA "Ethiopia’s Omo valley is one of the most remote wildernesses in Africa— and a place close to our hearts. After many visits over the last thirty years, on foot and via four-wheel drive, we decided to penetrate the Omo River by boat. Lale Biwa, our Kara guide, answered our calling. Lale’s people, the Kara, are the smallest of eight tribes in the region; they number fewer than two thousand and live in four small villages of domed huts. They are renowned for their colorful face and torso painting, designed to attract the eye of the opposite sex during courtship season, which begins after the rains. Each morning Kara men went down to the river to paint their bodies and came back to our tents to surprise us with fresh new designs, waiting eagerly to be photographed before they went off to court young women. After rigorous courtship dancing, the designs wore off, only to be refreshed each morning with another innovative pattern. This body painting is one of the oldest art forms in Africa; evidence of its origins is found in early African cave paintings and rock engravings dating back to the Stone Age." In this image "Performing the courtship dance, young Kara men form long lines and leap high in the air to impress the admiring young women." The Mursi tribe are nomadic cattle herders who live in the lower Omo Valley inside the mago national park near the Sudanese border. They are famous for its body decoration and ferocious culture. The Mursi women wear big clay plates in their lower lips, and the Mursi men are known for their scarification and for being fierce warriors. The Mursi Tribe is noted for their lip plates, which are made from clay and considered a sign of beauty. Young Mursi girls are pierced at the age 15 or 16 when their lower lips are cut in such a way that the plate can be inserted and then stretched with smaller plates and followed by larger plates. The bigger the plate the more livestock can be brought into the family when she eventually marries. the tribes is threatened by the construction of the dam gibe 3 who will make go down height of the omo river and that the government is converting the lands of the Mursi in sugar plantations. the organization survival is trying to stop the destruction of the tribes of the Omo Valley. : : 📸Anthony Pappone : #checkoutafrica #omovalley #ethiopia #africa #travelphotography #omoriver #travel #travelafrica #people #portraits #travelethiopia #photography #tribe #african #portrait #culture #amazing #ethiopiantravel #canon #tribes #portraitphotography #africantribes #omovalleytribes #adventure #omovalleydriver #suritribe #ethiopiantourdriver #infinity #etiopia #ethiopian — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/3dGs2ep

Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things: air, sleep, dreams, sea, the sky - all things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it. #travel #strangers #friends #comfortzone #karotribe #ethiopia #southomo #river #traveltheworld #wanderlust #africa #explore #adventure #journey #happy #smile #igtravel #igphoto #love #southomovalley #igpassport #culture #traveler #view #colors #omoriver #lovetravel #travelblog #photography (at Omo River)

Dear friends
Thank you very much for contacting me choosing my tribal contact experience services yes I am available and very happy to give you my reputed services in the best of ways to suit your interests, You have a great time to explore and learn more a way of life through the remote villages of the Omo River Valley Tribes, camping with Tribes I highly suggest as well.
This is an extraordinary opportunity to meet some of the more remote ethnic groups of the fascinatingly diverse areas surrounding the Omo River in South West Ethiopia. While the Omo Valley is an area which has been on the “tourist radar” for several years, the vast majority of visitors to the region find themselves unable to escape the “4WD circuit” which has arisen.
This comprehensive itinerary visits some of the region’s better known tribes but also spends a day walking through the Buska Mountains following a remote village trail and camping for two nights in the wild close to the villages of Buska and Kufur. Be warned, this is not an easy journey at times and there will be some basic conditions; it will surely be a journey to challenge the senses.
Whilst in this fascinating region we aim to learn about the varied ethnic groups who inhabit the region - from the Mursi, renowned for their lip-plates, the Konso famous for their terraced farming to the Hamer famous for their bull jumping coming of age ceremony. This is a unique itinerary in an unforgettable part of the world.
Highlights:
Meeting (amongst many) the Dorze, Ari, Bana, Hamer, Karo Surma, Nyangatom Dasenech tribes people of the delta near Lake Turkana Mursi peoples.
Experiencing the weekly markets at Key Afer, Dimeka and Turmi
Walking through the remote Buska Mountains
Camping wild next to tribal villages
Exploring the natural wonders of the Great African Rift Valley
