「都市回生」

2012年7月31日、8月1日撮影。

福岡県北九州市若松区響町の風車。

焦点距離28㎜の広角単焦点レンズに、

0.25倍の魚眼コンバーターを取り付けて、35㎜フィルム一眼レフカメラで撮影。

(焦点距離7㎜相当)画角170°位。

多重露光撮影の応用で、全てのコマに撮影した後、フィルムの先端を少し残した状態まで巻取って取り出し、ずらしたい分だけフィルムの先端をハサミで切り、再度装填して撮影を行った多重露光です。

ずらして多重露光撮影をする技法は、私が創作した写真術です。

再生可能エネルギーである風力発電機を活用し、地球環境、地球に住む仲間が生まれ変わる事を願って創作しました。

Shooting with an SLR

On the same trip during which I took the pictures below using a DSLR camera, I also took photos for the first time in my life using an SLR camera. I had never worked with film before, and I was trying to figure it out along the way. My mum taught me the basics of loading the film and winding it up. I shot with an Olympus OM-4Ti 35 mm SLR and used mostly Kodak Professional T-Max ISO 400 Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures) which I purchased at Mike's Camera in Menlo Park. I also played with color, but my favorite images were the black and white photos I took on that trip. Even though I didn’t know all the basic technical details, I’m happy that I experimented with film. I did try beforehand to read up about exposure and ISO settings, and the fact that I got a few decent images I think was a bit of a fluke!

The thing that was so interesting about shooting with an SLR camera was that I had only 36 shots. I could not delete any of them and do them over. As a photographer therefore there is the added concern that you have to plan and be super careful about each shot. There is also the consideration of processing costs. What if all the shots are lousy? I still have to pay for them to be processed, otherwise I can't see how they turned out. I think I became more careful in my shooting and planning each frame as a result.

Every time we went through security at the various airports, there was the logistical challenge of asking the people if I could have my film checked separately. When we left Cambodia it was frustrating because not all people understand what negative film is and how carefully it needs to be handled.

Now I have a lead-lined bag to help me safely transport my film. It's definitely more hassle but I think it's worthwhile if you're interested in shooting with a single lens reflex camera.

小倉城で京都の舞妓さんの撮影会。

35㎜フィルム一眼レフカメラで撮影。

焦点距離100㎜の望遠単焦点レンズ(対角線画角24°)使用。

雨が降る小倉城で、和傘を差している舞妓さんに日本情趣を感じました。
