He went by many names, Kon-El, Conner Kent, Supernova. But no matter what moniker he went by, he was always a hero. Ever since he popped out the tube passionate and rebellious. He, alongside Olympia and Impulse, represented the next generation of youthful superheroes with their daring rescues, cutting edge looks, and irresistible charm.

Kon’s been a hero for eight years now and has gotten it down to a science. His days of making naive mistakes are over. That is… until Tim Drake-Wayne throws a wrench in his plans. Or more accurately, a cake.

Supernova and Tim Drake-Wayne are caught getting into an argument at a charity gala, and it ends in buttercream property damage and headlines in the newspapers.

So the Justice League and the Waynes stage a fake friendship between Supernova and Tim Drake-Wayne as damage control. But can they convincingly play along after their long-standing petty hatred? Kon thinks Tim is a stuck-up rich brat, and Tim thinks Kon is a vain showboat. But along the way, Tim and Kon realize there is more to the other person then their previous impressions. Something alluring. And it threatens the tower of secrets the two boys are precariously balancing.

“Hey Timbo…” He drawled, and the man somehow stiffened up even more than he already was. Kon discreetly used his X-ray vision to check if Tim was actually a robot in disguise, but no, he was just an uptight human man. “Does your ass ever get sore from that stick you have jammed up it?”

“Does your jaw get sore from how often you run your mouth?” Tim retorted calmly and sipped on his champagne, cool as anything.

He was so perfectly composed and it only made Kon want to poke at him more — to see what it would take for him to crack.

“I’m invulnerable.” Kon reminded Tim. “It’s part of the Kryptonian package.”

“Does that package also include an incessant need for attention?”

ABOUT

Mara was born on Olympia to Aldric Fontaine, a head of surgery at one of Olympia's prestigious hospitals and Carissa Drake, a politicians daughter.

She spent her formative years on Olympia, getting some of the best education out there. She was always curious about her father's work but there would be time to follow in his footsteps. Of that she was certain.

Life was good living in Olympia but everything changed when she was thirteen years old. Her parents had been caught subverting the social order. Her father's trips to Equinox came under scrutiny when it became clear that from the second residential level, he taking transport to The Wards to provide much needed medical services. Her mother had also been transferring credits in order to provide residents of The Wards money to buy expensive black market medication.

This alone might not have been enough to convict the Fontaines, but the nail in their coffin was the fact that Aldric had been taking medical supplies and equipment from the hospital to perform surgery in The Wards. Even if he returned everything, the powers of Olympia said he'd abused his position of power in order to subvert the way things are. As such, the family was exiled to The Wards. After all, it will be easier to help them if you're living there.

From that point on, Mara's life changed and some might say for the worse, but her parents always held to the idea that helping others was a worthy endeavor. So they transferred Lumina Credits to Standard Credits and Rats, and began a new life in The Wards.

Dr. Fontaine taught Mara everything she knows today. When she wasn't learning from her father, she was being taught by her mother who had since opened a small school for kids in The Wards. They became known as do-gooders in The Wards, providing valuable services and not just taking "humanitarian" trips to add on resumes and university applications. Her father's clinic was one of the most visited in The Wards and only when Mara got older did she understand that he'd been helping members of TPC who, in turn, helped him get supplies for the clinic and their community.

When her parents passed, Mara took over her father's clinic and one of her mother's students, Reeve Eryn, took over the school. I'm getting lazy again so eventually they fell in love and got married and had a daughter whom they named Rosie Eryn Fontaine. They continued to do their good work as a family, the only day Mara took off was the day that Reeve died from lung cancer, and the day they floated his body. Rosie was still young at the time and Mara did everything she could to be the firm foundation for her daughter to grow strong.

It's been thirteen years since Reeve passed, and Mara has continued her work with the clinic, helping TPC and teaching Rosie everything she knows. The two are closer than close, with Mara proud of everything her daughter has become. Times are still tough in The Wards, but as long as Mara is well, she'll continue to make sure others are too.

Desert slums were harsh places to live, capable of chewing residents up and spitting them out if they couldn’t bend to its laws. Worship to the One God wasn’t as much of a priority in those slums, not when the laws of the sands had such a strong grip on the poorest Ankhurians. Brutal as the life may have been, it wasn’t entirely bleak. The bonds of the slum dwellers were said to be thinner than water while at the same time thicker than blood, which meant that when parentless children started kicking around—and they often did—the slums welcomed them with no questions. Even loner kids had to learn how to defend themselves, how to run and hide, how to pull through when it counts, and how to manage to stand tall atop shifting sands. Their lives weren’t easy by any measure, but those who could make it in the slums could make it anywhere.

Aegean, a name he chose for himself once he realized his name wasn’t actually ‘hey boy’, was one such child. He was smaller than most other starving street urchins so was easily overlooked, but that only taught him how to fend for himself with the tools he’d somehow been born with. Aegean didn’t know anything about himself, but it seemed so easy to learn things about others. At first, he didn’t even realize he was pulling at their thoughts. It was second nature to know a stranger's wants, or to hear a secret not shared with him, or to know exactly when someone was going to turn their head away from a loaf of bread. Aegean’s talents made it easy to swipe food, but difficult to trust. He never learned how to share with the other hungry children because he knew them just as well as they knew themselves. None of them would share with him, so why would he? The sands didn’t include charity in their lessons.

These unwittingly created weaves and “me first” mentalities only served to hone Aegean’s skills further. He thought he was simply reading people when in reality he was touching their minds in ways they were helpless to prevent. Soon his weaves didn’t simply let him hear another’s thoughts but also nudge them in his favor. He didn’t have to swipe food anymore, he could take it and weave their thoughts of anger into complacency, making off with his meals before they had a chance to wise up. Aegean barely thought of his actions as theft anymore, able to stick his hand into pockets and think to himself “It’s alright” only to have the thought reflected back in the minds of those he took from. His life in the slums was easy, but anyone with a trained eye could see more was at play than even he realized.

The man in the hood, that’s who his master was, someone Aegean couldn’t hear the thoughts of. It was an eerie experience for a young boy who’d gone his whole life being in the know. All he had were the man’s words and they sounded so sweet. To be promised wealth beyond his wildest dreams and the chance to never go to sleep hungry again were all Aegean needed to be taken on as the thief’s disciple. Under him, Aegean learned what it meant to be a witch, how to better command the weaves that came so naturally to him, and how best to use these new skills to take something for himself. He left the slums behind and traveled to the larger cities of Ankhuria, using the civilians as his training ground. Tricks of the eye, nudges of the mind, all used to steal without people noticing him. Aegean could look them in the eye and take their jewels or coin and they’d not even protest, an indicator to his master that he was ready. The Spider had a long-standing job request that no guild member on the continent could pull off or was even brave enough to attempt. The massive payout reflected the time and risk associated with the job. Aegean’s master didn’t possess the necessary skills himself, but he wanted a cut. Why else dedicate years in the desert training a young boy? Aegean was a part of his plan from the start. It was time, his pupil was ready, and the city of Eterna didn’t stand a chance. The job was as good as completed as far as he was concerned, so he and his pupil left Ankhuria behind and Aegean never saw the sands of his homeland again.

Calla Auguste arrived on the steps of the Tower clearly having survived some ordeal. Escaping the cleave of the Vanguard of Light was a trial so few in Lysara could relate to. Their influence wasn’t as strong in the Queendom which was why Calla did all she could to flee her nation and the believers who occupied it. Her story was told and verified by the witches of the Tower while they helped nurse her back to health. After all, the young witch girl didn’t have a single mental ward up, a clear sign of her lack of training. Calla’s life story was available for any witch with even a modicum of psionics training to see, but that’s not all that was discovered about her. It turned out that she was a natural with tremendous power, so much so that threads of the mind seemed to bend to her every word and gesture. Her ability would’ve been more alarming if not for her kind heart which shined through in her every interaction. Those who were around her the most upon her recovery described her touch on their minds as a cool mist, delicate yet pervasive. She didn’t destroy wards but instead coaxed them down, making even secrets locked in the minds of full-fledged Olympian witches available to her. Humble, demure, apologetic, it was clear to all that the young Astorian refugee didn’t possess a single malicious bone in her body which made the push to have her become a Novice supported by all.

Psionics was her path of calling, but her bright mind had the capacity for all sorts of knowledge. Astronomy, history, even ancient weaves typically only comprehended by witches with many more years of experience than she had, Calla’s thirst for knowledge seemed unquenchable. Her capacity for learning made her a favorite among her instructors, but that’s not what advanced her to the rank of Accepted in only a couple short months. True she was a prodigy, but more importantly she possessed an ingenious mind and a compassionate soul, qualities that showed her temperament was perfect for tugging on threads of the mind. After one lecture, she even developed a weave specifically to channel the magic she struggled to control: a cloud of mist to thread her excess energy into so she could stop invading the minds of those around her. The sight of her in the halls of the Tower with psionic mist swirling at her feet gave her an ethereal presence, one that began to symbolize the hard work and level of care she extended to the witches around her. Once she began to use the technique, people stopped feeling her reach behind their wards, not that many took much issue anyway. Calla’s touch was always too delicate to be considered threatening.

The best of the best wanted to instruct her once she became Accepted, all eager to impart their knowledge to the star pupil who seemed to want to learn it all. Every test received top marks, every lesson was used to develop grander applications of weaves, and through it all Calla was able to write the most eloquent dissertations outlining her grand magical theories. With talent and a mind as bright as hers, it was no surprise she was tapped to follow the patronage of Juno. The Sitters were eager to see her fly through her trials and finally be included among their ranks. Calla’s writings charmed all Scholars of Juno almost as much as her humble heart despite having a genius most could only hope to chase. Most notably, they were eager to guide her along her path of further psionic study and skill expansion. A number of her papers in her final year of being Accepted detailed weaves and tests specifically related to the mind of Valerius Noctis. Her work was unprecedented and even beyond the realm of comprehension for many senior Scholars of Juno, but Calla had more than proven her ability during her time in the Tower. All the Scholars were eager to see what discoveries she could make by mapping his thoughts and how much more her psionics would blossom once sharpened against a mind such as his.

The day Calla received her ring establishing her as a Scholar of Juno, an ancient book was taken from the archives of the Tower. Only a Scholar would have known about the book and to this day the well-crafted forgery Aegean left in its place hasn’t been identified as a fake. He, of course, altered the contents of the copy after he read the original, but only as a fun game he couldn’t help but play. The day of meeting had been established, and after years of deep cover, he was able to bring his quarry to Mercury’s Abode to accept his pay. Of course, his master wanted a cut, however, they hadn’t been in contact since Calla arrived at the Tower. Aegean put in all the work, he got the results, he was the greatest thief the guild had ever known, and he didn’t need some two-bit pickpocket stealing an ounce of his glory. In all that time Aegean spent with his Calla mask on, he developed quite the ego. Furthermore, he took the lessons bestowed upon him seriously and mastered magic to a degree that surpassed his teacher. But most importantly, he’d gone beyond the job and discovered his genuine passion for learning all on his own. His work with Valerius Noctis was all him. Logically, Calla should’ve died the day Aegean acquired the book, but he wasn’t done yet. Both he and Calla still had work to do.

After that, Aegean became more favored than his master who brought him into the guild. He cemented his status all on his own, accepting contracts from the Fox, Hare, and Spider as he pleased. So long as the payout was good and he got to lord his success over other guild members, Aegean was happy to prove himself a viable asset for all patrons. Calla continued her studies too, taking her role as an eternal student incredibly serious. She continues to add her philosophies, discoveries, and other works to the Tower archives to this day, maintaining her reputation as the demure prodigy more powerful than she let on. Calla was more than some mask to Aegean now, she was his key to greatness in the same way Aegean was the ambitious drive that pushed Calla ever forward. One and the same but existing in separate worlds, Aegean and Calla are simultaneously working towards their goals with loyalty to themselves only. After all, who decided they couldn’t have it all?
