Ölvisholt Tasters
Knowing their open hours were limited, we were happy to find them open when driving past. Unfortunately we arrived 15 mins before closing; they were gracious enough to serve us anyway, as another brewery staffer was on site tending to things for a bit longer. We agreed on a flight of 8 beers, as well as some bottles to go and chatted briefly before they headed out.
All quite tasty, but I ain’t gonna lie that her fav was the Belgian chocolate tripel, Gioli, ,Eirikur & Helgi, clocking in at 7.7% ABV. I preferred the session IPA, Forseti, with nice citrusy hop notes.

Beer of the day: Röðull IPA from Ölvisholt brewery. Hint of citrus, powerful bitterness but yet so light. #kexhostel #kexbeer #olvisholt

Olvisholt's Lava
Appearance: The body is dirty motor oil black with a creamy brown head, the head has rather poor retention though.
Aroma: Smoked meats come to mind first, it's certainly the prominent aroma but not overpowering. Cocoa and roasted malts back the smoked meats giving good complexity and balance out the aroma nicely.
Taste: The intro is of cocoa but the flavor quickly swings to the roasted malts and smoke flavors with some alcohol on the finish and a slight charcoal or licorice on the finish, which really pushes me away from loving this beer.
Overall: This is the first beer I've had from Iceland, but they're doing things right if this is any indication. I love this beer until the finish, but even so I think it's worth buying to try once. It's a fine imperial stout.
