The Depiction of the Werewolves in TO

Once again, I made a quick, I thought funny, tiktok, which has upset some people because of my, you could say, lack of sympathy for the wolves in TO. But don't blame me, blame the writers.

If you know anything about me, you know Hayley Marshall is a top favorite character for me. I love her growth and the journey she went on to find her family. Which is why, when she did find them (excluding the whole betraying Tyler thing), I was upset by how they treated her. You have Jackson telling her he was disappointed in their interaction, you have Oliver taking advantage of her hospitality and betraying her, and then the rest of her family doesn't even greet her/talk to her. She is supposed to be this "princess who is promised," and yet they can't even take a second to get to know her. I get, they have been cursed and are just trying to enjoy their human moments while they can, but it just didn't give me anything to bond with.

Except Eve. I loved Eve. She welcomed Hayley, not as some long lost royal, but as family. Eve is the first, and really only, werewolf/family that we, as the audience, get to see Hayley bond with. We see her helping Hayley prepare for her baby as well as teaching her about their culture. It's implied others are helping as well, but we never get to see it. It all happens off screen. I just know, if Eve had been alive, she would have been by Hayley's side after she "lost" Hope.

Which makes it so much worse when Oliver kills Eve. And all for power. This is where my dislike for the New Orleans werewolves comes in. Any other time we meet wolves, there is a strong sense of loyalty. You hear, Tyler and Jules and even Hayley talk about the packs they have been with and you see them working together to avoid/fight off Klaus. But then we get to the Crescent wolves and learn that they have been trying to kill each other for power. Not just in the past, we actively see Oliver get his own pack members killed and then kill Eve with zero consequences. Yes, Oliver does die, but not because of that. He is still given a proper burial, something we don't even get to see for Eve.

Now, an argument people use a lot with the wolves is that they are the oppressed. But this argument, to me, comes more from the historical portrayal of werewolves and less from the sources material we are discussing. Throughout much media, the wolves are meant to represent the oppressed -- the poor and downtrodden -- who have been taken advantage of by the blood-sucking aristocrats, the vampires. But in TO, Jackson tells us that the werewolves were at the top of the food chain until in-fighting got the better of them.

And we see this in flashbacks to 1919. Lana Lebonair is working with the Mikaelsons and they are able to create peace in the city with the witches. After the Mikaelsons flee, we don't know exactly what happened, but we know leading up to the 1990s there had been enough in-fighting that the Lebonairs and Kenners had set up an arranged marriage in hopes to quell the civil war that had broken out.

Unlike in other depictions of werewolves, the wolves were not inherently oppressed. The first werewolf we ever meet is Tyler Lockwood, who was by no means strapped for cash. In 1919, the Crescents were living in the Quarter, partying right alongside everyone else. It wasn't until their own members made power grabs did they have issues.

In hindsight, we are told these power grabs are due to the Hollow and someone implied that Marcel should have investigated the werewolves civil war before cursing all of them. First, I don't necessarily support Marcel in everything he does. To me, in Season 1, he was very much like Klaus and it was not my favorite version of him. Should he have cursed an entire pack for the actions of a handful, probably not. But the way Marcel talks about it, it was not just a handful, the entire pack was at war with itself. And the curse only applied to those who had triggered the curse or did trigger the curse, so no children. Again, was there a better solution, maybe, but was it up to Marcel to realize a ancient spirit had possessed one of their leaders when not even his wife had realized? That may be asking too much. Especially after he was watching them try to butcher a baby.

Due to this curse, the werewolves do end up isolated in the bayou. The curse lasts for about 20 years so many of the young members miss out on much of their early adulthood. This is something the show should have gone in on more. In my story, I try to explore this idea that, because of the curse, the werewolves are really disenfranchised. However, in the show, we don't get that. The only wolves we deal with are the leaders who are essentially using their pack as a power play. Aiden is the only leader who seems to be aware that these decisions are impacting the entire pack, and he gets reprimanded for speaking out. Aiden is so desperate to save his pack that he goes to his enemies (Elijah and Marcel) to protect the children from the decisions of his own pack members.

To me, the beauty of the werewolves comes from their loyalty, from how they work together and support each other. The depiction of the Crescent wolves flies in the face of everything I typically love about packs. The leaders abandon each other, have little respect for each other, and for some reason they have a monarchy. Hayley and Aiden are the only leaders we truly see fighting for the pack, and they are often disrespected by the very members they are trying to help.

In Season 1, Hayley is torn between the people who took her in and the pack that she always wanted to find. She ends up in the middle of the conflict and the pack (Oliver) often throws that in her face and uses her as a pawn to try and manipulate the Mikaelsons while also disrespecting her over and over again. But the thing is, they didn't need a pawn. They never tried to open discussions. Hayley marches into a faction meeting angry that the werewolves were not included in the discussion, but they had never asked to be included. As Elijah points out, the meeting was to divide up the Quarter and the wolves do not live in the Quarter. If you are familiar with New Orleans, you know the nearest bayou is about an hour drive away. But when Hayley asked (demanded) to be in the conversation, she was immediately included. She then signed a treaty saying the wolves would help create peace, only for her to go back to the bayou to discover Jackson and Oliver were both working behind her back to make a side deal with Klaus for more power. Instead of building peace, they were again lobbying for power. The very thing that got them cursed in the first place.

Someone argued, 'of course they are trying to get power, they don't want to be cursed again.' And sure, but even when they get their power from Hayley, it doesn't stop them from being cursed by Dahlia. But maybe if they had made friends with the witches, they would have been able to get help from Davina earlier than they did.

It's easy to look at each faction and point out how they've been wronged, but as Hayley points out, they've all harmed each other. If they all wanted reparations for that harm, it would never end. The wolves seem to get the short end of the stick a lot, because, as Jackson says, they were never unified. The witches were and the vampires were. It's not up to the other factions to cut them a break because they couldn't get it together. At the end of it all, they needed to move forward and worry about the future of their people. Which is what Hayley and Lana do leading up to Season 5, when New Orleans was able to actually achieve peace. Not surprising it took women being in charge before the pack found unity.

I would also like to point out that in my post I had also called out Klaus and Marcel. I am not solely blaming the werewolves for the war in New Orleans. But it is incorrect to say the werewolves were innocent bystanders in it. Their history is just as bloody as the other factions. The only faction that was innocent was the human faction who truly did not get a seat at the table. And of course, in any war, the people who ended up paying for these power moves were good people like Sophie and Eve.

"It's like you said, she's a good kid, she's just- Angry and hurt. Not much different than we were when we were her age." His words pulled a scoff from her frame, rolling her eyes as she returned her gaze to the glass and downed the remained of the liquid, allowing the burn to settle in her throat before shaking her head ever so slightly. "You truly believe that, Oli," she questioned. "Like truly, truly believe that? Because I don't. I think they shoved all of us into the building together, forced us into the building because they have something bigger planned and we all played into their trap."

The wolf nodded, releasing a soft sigh as he encouraged himself to relax a little. Lifting his glass toward his lips he quipped “scary shit, huh? Guess that just means that we’re gettin’ old.” Taking a sip and returning the glass to the counter, Oliver rolled the tension from his shoulders. “Yeah well, I ain’t exactly her flavor of the month. I'm working on fixin' that, though.” The shift within their tone caused for his expression to mirror Mac's own, brow creasing as he murmured "they wouldn't be stupid enough to try pull anythin. There's no way. Jordyn's old man is many things, but he ain't stupid."

Hayley

Is an alpha wolf

She was killed by Roman and his mother

She did not become a hybrid after giving birth to Hope ( bc I don't want it ) she just came very close to dying and her blood healed her slowly along with her natural accelerated healing.

Oliver Kenner, Luna Kenner, and Hope Mikaelson are her children I'll probably pick up Luna later and fit her in.

She's resurrected by Hope when she turns 18 and completes her transformation.

She has a hard time gripping things like time because of her mortality compared to Klaus who's lived a long time. She has a hard time looking sometimes because of how much has changed.

She doesn't blame her for trusting Roman she's done a lot of trusting the wrong person in her life

She's married to Jackson in every verse and they lead their small pack together before their deaths then the responsibility falls onto hope but after her resurrection, she does try to help.

When she comes back that's the first place she goes after being with hope and where she stays.

They take in lost and abandoned wolves and give them a home and that means their little space has grown and changed sense then but she's here for it.

Elena

Elena never wanted to become a vampire but when she did she tried to deal with the changes but it felt like it changed so much of her that she battled with a lot of self-hate which showed in how she lashed out against people and tried to appear more confident and embrace her strength but it's a front like Damon's. Every day was agony and the passionate love affairs and what have you dulled the ache but it never went away.

She's getting the same treatment as Hayley and Klaus. That magic brought them all back. Damon's human and so is she.

She immediately gets to her normal life trying to make up lost time

She becomes a writer, her specialty of course being fantasy and romance but along with that she'd like to become an English teacher and find other writers and push them toward their dreams.

Depending on the thread and person she is happily married to Damon and he is as insufferable as he is doting and kind to her and stefan.

Klaus

I'm not sure how everyone will feel about this but absorbing all that dark magic and then killing himself took something from him. When he comes back he is just a werewolf. The white oak stake burned that part of him away but some things still remain:

he is still immortal to some degree as long as he doesn't suffer so fatal an injury he dies he can live forever.

His blood still heals vampire bites

Out of all natural wolves, this Mf is big as hell and very powerful because of the years effect that would make him stronger but not unkillable

He can fully transform now and looks like this ( ain't he cute ) and the stories have now gone from Klaus the immortal tribrid to the great oak wolf which he likes and the sentiment has moved from terror to protection though most ( rightfully so ) are skeptical because he's still a selfish bastard and will protect his kind, his pack and his family FIRST.

Love that I get to do stuff like this since the power diff is now fucking ridiculous thanks to Hope and Landon. Anyways that's it for now ~

When he wasn't met with a verbal response, Jackson's eyes glanced over and fell on... "Ollie." Before his death, Jackson had been angry with him. But that anger came from a place of deep betrayal and hurt. Ollie's heart was in the right place (something Jackson didn't come to notice until he was met with his own fate) he just went about it the wrong way. And maybe if Jackson had been more... open minded, Oliver wouldn't have had to. He knew eventually that he'd meet his own fate, and when he was, he was okay with it. Because something deep in him told him he'd get to see Oliver and Aiden again, and Jackson wanted that more than anything. Only, when he did die and got the Crescents version of peace, Oliver wasn't there. Aiden was though. The two would often sit around the fire and reminisce the old days of the three of them, laughing at the stupid stuff they've done, the good memories they've made, and even shedding a few tears at the fact that Ollie wasn't there with them, where he should have been. Jackson just about felt his heart break at the sight of Ollie falling to his knees in a heaving mess. The wolf didn't leave him there long before he's pulling Oliver up and without a moments hesitation, Jackson pulls him in for a tight embrace, chocolate hues glazing over with the unshed tears, "God, I've missed you."

When Jackson was a baby, a rival pack sought out to end one of the two great families of the Crescent pack. His parents, Kaia and Hudson fought tooth and nail to protect the pack and their child.

In the end, the Crescents won the fight. However, the win didn't really feel like a win because of those they lost, including Jackson's parents.

With the loss, Jackson was raised by his grandparents.

From the time that Jackson could walk and talk, Richard has been "training" him to take up the Alpha title for when the time comes. Jackson didn't have a normal grandson/grandparent relationship with Richard. Richard refused to show an ounce of affection, believing that it wouldn't "toughen him up" for when he needed to fight.

Mary on the other hand, was the complete opposite. She adored Jackson (and the rest of the entire pack as her own grandchildren). She would tell him stories about his mom, and some of his dad too. She would tell the pack kids the history behind the crescent wolves, and what greatness they would be. When you needed someone to talk to, she was the person to go to.

Jackson's very best friends are Oliver and Aiden. He would go to the mat ten times over for them.

When Jackson was seven, Marcel sent out Brynne Deveraux (who was possessed by Céleste Dubois unknowingly) to put the curse on the pack. They were cursed into the wolf forms at all times except that of a full moon.

With the limited time they had, Jackson was mostly trained on how to be an alpha while in wolf form. Sometime over the years, Richard was killed and Jackson became the alpha of the pack.

After Richard's death, Jackson swore that he was going to be a better alpha than his grandfather was. And while they were still cursed to the wolf forms, Jackson made a promise that the Crescents were going to rise again. A promise he very much still plans to keep.

Jackson is openly bisexual and has no qualms about it. When Aiden had come out to him, he told him love was love - and that's something he truly believes in.

With the curse now broken, Jackson is now searching for a way for his pack to retain their wolf whenever they please and is also working to get the Crescents back to the greatness his grandmother once told them about. He's very pack driven, and while loyal and all around a good guy, revenge on Marcel is definitely on his mind.

He's betrothed to Hayley Marshall (Andrea Labonair) but doesn't know how he feels about that. Arrangements make him uneasy. He knows it's for the strength of the pack, but he doesn't like the idea of being told who he has to marry.

𝕛𝕠𝕣𝕕𝕪𝕟 𝕣𝕖𝕚𝕟𝕖 — one year later

Jordyn has really been working on moving on from her trauma from the past few years and making something of herself. Before the prison world, she spent most of her time growing her family. She is happy with her 3 kids and the family that she and Oliver have created. So now it is time to work on her career.

The first of Jordyn's goal to be checked off was becoming a lieutenant within the fire department. This was one of her biggest goals when first becoming a firefighter. She doesn't need to be chief or go any higher. But just holding a slight position of power was enough for her.

Once made lieutenant, she wanted to leave some sort of legacy within the department. Something that could continue to run for years to come. Something to help the community. Her first order of business was to collaborate with Theodore Kenner and the New Orleans Police Department and start a self defense class. The goal was to get it completely funded by the city and free to join for the basics. She wanted anyone and everyone to be able to learn some sort of self defense if they chose.

Once the self defense workshop was up and running, along with the help of her sister-in-law, Lorelai, Jordyn created a first aid/CPR class for to teach basic first aid to the general public. The goal with this program is to eventually partner with the local hospital and create a regular clinic for the under or uninsured to get the basic medical care they need

With everything she's overseeing, Jordyn has been a busy woman. In her free time, she's continuing to build her relationship with her children and her husband. With Asher coming to work at the fire station as well, she's started rebuilding her relationship with him, the pair becoming closer than they have been in a long time. With her younger sister still siding with the OEA, she doesn't see that relationship being rebuilt any time soon, but will never completely give up hope. She continues to look out for her from afar, hoping that some day the pair can reconcile.

Con el tiempo, los Media Luna volvieron a ser reunidos por Alice Harlem, mujer lobo miembro de la manada que, para diciembre de 2010, sería proclamada nueva alfa.

Tras una larga época de incertidumbre, la Facción de Licántropos de Nueva Orleans —a la que pertenecen los Media Luna—, tomó el control de la ciudad tras CUMPLIR CON SU VENGANZA y asesinar a Klaus Mikaelson. Muchos estuvieron satisfechos por haberlo logrado, aunque otros se mostraron discrepantes por la forma en la que se logró: Oliver Trudeau, alfa de los Trudeau —aliados de los Media Luna—, asesinó a Klaus Mikaelson a traición. Meses después, los Mikaelson se cobraron su venganza obligando a Alice Harlem a asesinar públicamente a Oliver... ¿o no? Sea como fuere, las DISCREPANCIAS en la manada estuvieron servidas.

En la actualidad, UTHER MORNINGSTAR, líder de la Facción de Brujos, logró vencer y desterrar a los licántropos, desterrándolos del poder y de la ciudad, debiendo retirarse de nuevo a los pantanos. Durante OCHO MESES, hasta enero de 2014, la manada Media Luna se halló sometida a la MALDICIÓN DEL PANTANO: una maldición vinculada a la loba alfa, mediante la cual los lobos perdieron toda capacidad de control en sus transformaciones. Con la ayuda de ÀGNES BARGMANN, druida de la manada, lograron finalmente romper la maldición y regresar a la normalidad. La pregunta es: ¿cuánto tardarán los lobos en cobrarse venganza? ¿Buscarán recuperar el poder, o tenderán a lograr una paz ecuánime y justa en toda la ciudad?

Para unirte a esta manada, debes ser un licántropo residente en Nueva Orleans. Podrás elegir unirte a la manada on-rol, o bien ser un Media Luna desde tu ficha, comunicándoselo a la actual alfa, ALICE HARLEM.

she'd managed to steal some time away from the compounds and the many eyes that come with that compound and found her way back to the bayou only for the first thing she comes upon to be a bunch of the pack wrestling. the young crescent grabbed her book and sat down on a bench so that she would watch them wrestle and maybe get a few chapters in.

pulling her attention away from the book in her lap, she looked up to find a familiar face sitting next to her. "what happened? did they kick your ass or something?" eve teased him.

"Look, I know you're all eager to keep testing your new strength and abilities... but why don't we all take ten, yeah? Besides, y'all are gonna have to start preparing for your first full moon before too long. That is someone else's territory though." Oliver laughed and waved off a small handful of young werewolves that had activated their wolf nature during the assaults.

He had spent the last hour or so wrestling with them, letting them test the waters of their newfound abilities granted to them by their blessings. Needless to say, the wolf was tired and he let out a large huff as he tossed himself onto a bench nearby.

Perhaps his words were in bad taste but Oliver just couldn’t help himself. Jackson had been an integral part of his childhood, his fathers best friend. The man that his father had betrayed, but swore to love like a brother. “Shit, y'look like you’ve seen a ghost.” There was a subtle twitch of his lips, clearing the nerves from his throat as he approached, "but maybe that should be my line?"

There had been a part of him, maybe small – maybe not so, that had dared to wonder 'what if.' What if his father came back too.
