midyear crisis
I was watching old loona stages, as one does when reminicing of a better more joyfull time in life when loona was still a 12 member girl group and when kpop had not yet cross the exploiting barrier tiktok brought to the scene. I wish to be fourteen again, for a second. Even when at fourteen i was too depressed to brush my hair or care about anything but loona's debut on august of that year. I wish to be eleven playing yandere simulator and watching crappy youtubers that just screamer into the mic but that brought me life, that brought me joy. today i feel empty, cause it's four days past the half of june, because i let half of another year slip away again and beacuse my dorm room is a mess, beacuse i have dishes all over the house, because i haven't eaten a decent meal in forever, because i miss my mother but now that i need her the most she's finally on her own for the fisrt time in twenty years so i'll just wait until she answers my calls at night and hope not to crumble under the pressure of another year slipping away, yet again.
i have therapy on monday, and maybe this is oversharing on the internet, but i don't care that much anymore. kpop does not help anymore, nothing helps anymore, and i feel more like a child than ever but i can't show, i can't be petty an argumentative when my classmates are a pain in the ass and i can't tell my roomate to f off when she asks me to babysit her cat again for the fifth time in the month. i can't loose my shit and that i think is what's harder tha actually keeping it together, i can't f up anymore.
im soon to be a published author and that does not seem real, i don't feel real sitting at the table home alone wondering if i should just start using piracy to download my favourite albums beafore society colapses and i want the new show im watching on dvd or at least digitally on my computer because maybe tomorrow or in two months netflix will decide they no longuer need to have six foot under in their damn plataform or maybe there's episodes i'll never get to see and maybe people should stop developing new ways to record tv shows like yeah the arri alexa its cool and all but why don't we just go back to film and why don't we just throw all the phones away and delete social media and go back to answering to messages when you got home and got on the computer. let's go back to blogging on sites and talking about stuff we wanted without expecting anyone to hear us let's go back to art and to literature i want to own a million books but i'd have nowhere to put them all and even if i did im five minutes late to a meeting i scheduled so i'll stop ranting for once and shut up forever.

yeah speaking of Gamergate
yalll heard how Sweet Baby Inc had a meltdown over someone pegboarding together how they and those that bear their ideology and coincidentally work for them keep making the industry suck, and ran courses and seminars on how to terrorize and threaten and exploit businesses with disinformation campaigns and smear campaigns if they didn't conform to their demands/recommendations for games?
Upgrading their game from taking over games journalism rags to embedding themselves into consultation and human resources, to gatekeep art like soccer moms tried to gatekeep entertainment and arts from the church pews in the 70s and 80s?
Yeah sweet baby inc didn't like people drawing those very true lines and then tried to destroy those doing it by force and pressure. When that didn't work they went into panic mode and started sneeringly mocking them as Nazis, "HUWITE" conservative MEN, misogynists and anti-blacks. On the basis that opposing Sweet Baby Inc's values clearly means you're just a "chud" monster "threatened by change."
It's only GamerGate 2.0 because it's the same people stirring up the shit, having their shit pointed out, and the oldmedia weirdly seemingly forced to do backflips to report them as victims while calling gamers Nazis.
There’s alleged leaks of the Project Rene sims going around…

Telling the Story
The Kodak Brownie is the first commercial camera and a revolutionary step towards the development of photograph technology. It takes what was a long inaccessible process and transforms it into something that is easily accessible for personal use. It completely transforms the way photography is looked at and used. The significance of the Kodak “Brownie” in terms of new media can be defined by the revolutions in photography that it will bring forward; implementing new advancements in technology in to its functioning to bring a piece of current technology into the future. It is important to note that with the invention of the commercial camera is when photography becomes convenient and accessible. Before the Kodak “Brownie” camera was introduced, taking a photograph was a complex process only used by “professionals” and it relied on prepared glass plates which were later treated to render the image, it was far too complex and difficult for household usage. The Kodak “Brownie” replaces this process and relieves photography from being a difficult medium to work with. The Brownie operated differently from all other cameras that are currently in production, by simply pushing on a lever. Similar technologies are used within the camera, but the operation is much more advanced. There is a shutter located at the front of the camera which opens allowing for light to be passed through the lens. When the light is passed through it is then reflected from the object be photographed and passed back through the lens forming an image. As it continuous through the lens the image is inverted onto a light sensitive film at the back of the camera.

REPLICA is a visual interpretation of the phrase “in some place hidden, the replica of a city”, from Ricardo Piglia. I made it for Ediciones Um Por Um using letters and elements of venezuelan banknotes, to compose a series of GIFs intending to explore possible constellations between money, the city, its replica, pixels, digital image and colors. The circulation of those elements in the physical and virtual space proposes to question their division, and to wonder about what new connections can be established between them. Maybe that wondering may allow us to think of an imaginary –– and more desirable version of each city we inhabit. Full GIF series here: https://www.instagram.com/p/B6_bLMapnsh/

The Never-Ending Link Between Old and New
It all started with the internet. One might even dare to say that with no internet we wouldn’t have many of the technological advances we have now. New media would have never been a thing. However so, old media would have still existed, which leads to the realization that all new and old media have and will always have a connection with each other making it an inseparable entity. Old media can still be seen in use in contemporary times, however so, it is more of a ‘trendy’ thing to use, without it being relevant or convenient in the 21st century. And as new media becomes more and more new, it becomes more complicated at the same time – the invention of a mobile phone led to the invention of smartphones, which has opened up a completely new dimension of how we use technology (Chadwick, 2017). This is the same reason why we as a society start getting lost in the meaning of medium and the role it plays in our everyday lives. Therefore, this post will review how the internet emerged and what makes the new media ‘new’.
The first recorded descriptions of possible social interactions via networking were discussed already in 1962. In 1965 a first wide-area computer network was built. In 1968 the overall structure of ARPANET was presented. And finally, in 1972 ARPANET and the new network technology was presented to the public (Leiner et al., 2019). Over the years ARPANET turned into the Internet and in 1989 Tim-Berners Lee invented the World Wide Web, the internet that we use now. In about 30 years, the biggest networking domain of our current lives was created. As already mentioned before, without the internet we would have no social or new media and the world would be lacking all of these technological advances.
The reason why the emergence of the internet was considered first, is the fact that is was once a new media as well. The ‘Web’ is a core application of what today we refer to new media. We can already see a trend here that all media once was new and all of our new media will eventually be old (Gitelman, 2006). However so, without looking at the history of media and its development, I will briefly look at how the new, contemporary digital media fit in with the history of internet emergence. It is known that digital media have taken certain characteristics from print traditions (for example, internet page), however, at the same time, it can have visual characteristics of photography which later emerged into broadcast media (Chadwick, 2017).
The point of this blog post was to express the overarching link that new media will always have with old media. In other words, new media cannot and would not exist without old media. As already mentioned before, the internet plays a very important role in the realization of new media as it creates a domain for reaching audiences by online circulation.
