#2 | Weak In The Knees | Hercules x Reader
A/N: I’m inept at Hercules fics. Also, I have zero experience in office setting. Everything is from what I have read and I’m not sure if they’re accurate.
Warnings: None, I think. Workaholic, maybe. A slight curse or two.
It’s poorly made, I know
-
If it weren’t for the deadline, you would’ve stayed at home. You knew to yourself that you were running a high fever, but you fought against it and went to work anyways.
This was a bad habit you have. You worked too much. Given from your past experiences, you really can’t blame yourself. All your life, you worked twice as hard than anyone just to make ends meet. Work was second nature to you.
“Morning, (Y/N),” a coworker greeted you as you rushed in the office.
“Morning,” you reply quickly before dashing to your desk. As quickly as humanly possible, you opened your laptop, spread your papers and went into work mode.
There were 3 more pages to go in your report and there is absolutely nothing entering your mind. Along with the agonizing headache, it feels like the world is ending.
It’s been less than an hour at work and you already needed a break.
Struggling to stand up without staggering, you headed for the snack room to get some water and aspirin. The journey was long, since you made slow steps. By the second, your headache increased exponentially. When you got to the snack room, you were more than ready to collapse.
“Out of all days I can be sick,” you muttered to yourself. You grabbed the glass off the counter and filled it with cold water. Now, where the hell was the aspirin? Right, the cupboard.
You craned your neck upwards and winced at the shooting pain in your forehead. One hand on your temple and another reaching for the box of painkillers in the cupboard, you stood on your tippy-toes. You barely touched the box when a large hand snatched it away. You whipped your head to the side and immediately regretted the action as the room started spinning.
Strong hands steadied you, saving you from falling. “Here.” The guy who took the box of aspirin and helped you to your feet handed it to you. “Thanks,” you say, glancing up at the guy. He was tall, almost a feet taller than you, since you had to crane your neck to actually see his head. His dark skin tone made him handsomer than he already is. Deep brown eyes, cropped black hair. Incredibly hot.
For a second you forgot your headache and fever, staring at the Greek god before you.
“I’m Hercules. Hercules Mulligan.” He reached out his hand towards you, smiling. It took you a moment to realize he was introducing himself. “(Y/N) (L/N),” you replied dazedly, shaking his hand. Damn it fever, making me an idiot, you think to yourself, a blush forming in your already flushed face.
Your sickness, probably reminding you of its presence, decided to act up at that moment and made your entire body weak. With that, your legs gave out and sent you crashing on the floor. Thank goodness Hercules’ hand still held yours in mid-shake, catching you in the process of your fall.
“This is the first time I actually made someone weak in the knees with my charm,” Hercules joked. You weakly smiled back, feeling lightheaded at the almost-crash.
“Oh, right.” His eyes widened realization. “You’re probably sick, since you’ve been looking pale. And holy crap, you’re burning up!” He placed his hand to your forehead, which made you flush even more. “You shouldn’t have gone to work, (Y/N),” he admonished.
“I have to,” you huff, “I have a deadline to meet.” He looked at you disbelievingly. Hercules began to open his mouth to admonish you again, but was interrupted by the opening of the door.
“What the hell, Herc?” You hear someone say. “This morning turns weirder and weirder.”
Hercules steadily brought you to your knees and to a chair. Finally, you got the chance to drink the painkiller. Now you patiently waited for the effects to kick in.
“Sorry for interrupting your morning, Alex,” Hercules apologized. Alexander waved it away.
“Nah, that’s alright. Just need some coffee. Busy with Mr. Washington’s documents.” Alex maneuvered around the snack room and casually made a cup of coffee. The room went into awkward silence, only the sound of the coffee machine filling the place.
As Alex set his cup down the table, he came to acknowledge your presence. “Hey, Alexander Hamilton.” He offered his hand out.
“ (Y/N) (L/N),” you reply, shaking his hand.
“Are you okay? You kinda look sickly,” he asks. You were about to answer that you were starting to feel well when Hercules intervened.
“Actually,” Hercules started, “(Y/N)’s sick today and she can’t work. Can you ask Mr. Washington to give her an extension?” You form a protest in you lips but Alex already answered, “Sure I can. I’ll tell him when I meet him later.”
“I’m feeling fine now, actually,” you interrupt. “I don’t think that would be necessary.”
“It’s no trouble at all, (Y/N),” Alex assured. “You know, you should also get a day-off today. Looks like you need it.” Hercules gave a little gasp.
“Is this true? Hamilton is telling someone to take a break? Hypocrital.” Alex mockingly glared at the burly man. “But seriously, you should take a break, (Y/N).” You seem to consider it for a second. A day couldn’t hurt.
“Okay then.”
It feels slightly regrettable as you pack up your things in preparation to go home. You already felt better, the headache was gone but the wooziness and the weak feeling wasn’t entirely gone though.
With a sigh, you slowly made your way out of the office. Completely opposite to what you did a few hours ago.
“(Y/N)!” Someone called out as you step out of the building. You turn to the voice and saw Hercules running up to you.
“Hello, Hercules.” You smile serenely at the man. “What is it?”
“I’m accompanying you,” he said.
“Pardon?” You blink in confusion.
“Well, someone’s gotta take care of you, right?” He flashed you a smile that made your knees (figuratively) go weak.
“Thanks, but I can manage,” you decline. “Besides, we just met.”
“But I want to,” he said stubbornly. “And I like you.” The sudden declaration threw you off-guard.
“You do?” You ask, dumbfounded.
“Yeah, and you probably like me back. If your legs buckling at my smile is a sign.” You roll your eyes at his cockiness.
“I was a sick,” you defend weakly. “But, kinda, yeah, maybe I like you too.” You shrug nonchalantly. Hercules’ smile widened at what you said.
“See? I’ve got charm for making you weak in the knees. Now come on, I’ll drive you to your place.”

When “Great Comet” got into financial trouble, they decided the problem was that the male lead, Okiriete Onaodowan, wasn’t a well-known name. Producers abruptly dropped Oak partway through his run and cast Mandy, hoping that he’d be a big enough draw to keep the show afloat. But when he heard that his casting had screwed Oak over, Mandy quit the show immediately. He explained on Twitter that he never wants to take a role at another actor’s expense.
