I feel like I gotta let my feelings out on potc5 somewhere, so tumblr it is!

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS UNDER CUT

Okay so bit of backstory for me: POTC is my absolute favorite franchise of all time. It’s Disney, it’s actiony, it’s got fantasy/mythology, and it’s Johnny Depp. What’s not to like? 

I first got into Curse of the Black Pearl after I got it on DVD for Christmas in 2003. As a small annoying child, I could constantly quote the movie (my dad got so annoyed with me, but that’s a different story). I even memorized the choreography for the sword fights and the entire cast list for the first film. 

Then Dead Man’s Chest came out, cue same level of obsession. I bought so much merchandise (I still have a portion of it, but definitely not as much as I had :’3), and I immediately bought it on DVD when it came in stores.

At World’s End comes out and I see the movie opening night at midnight, and I even dress up in costume. Then I learn “Hey, I can go see a movie in theaters MULTIPLE TIMES!” and thus AWE becomes champion of my record for seeing a movie the most times in theaters, which is eight. I’ve then dressed up as “Jacqueline” Sparrow two Halloweens in a row. I brought my other obsessions into POTC when I wrote Teen Titans stories with mine and my friends’ OCs. My sketchbooks were filled with doodles of this story. It was the first thing I had ever written that I actually pulled myself all the way through, and they ended up being a couple hundred pages each. Needless to say, I fucking love Pirates.

Fastforward to potc4. It’s okay, I was excited when it came out, but then I realized Captain Jack Sparrow really isn’t the best idea for a main character by himself. Angelica and Scrum were also kinda ehh. The more time went on, the more I liked it less. At this point though I had read that Johnny Depp signed a contract for six Pirates movies, so I was hoping the next one would be better (now though, they’re advertising potc 5 as the last film of the franchise, so I think the sixth one isn’t happening :’3)

Okay NOT we get into the spoilery movie stuff

I kinda liked how it started, but at the same time, it was super predictable with the whole Henry and Will Turner stuffs. Now we get to the whole Jack and posse try to rob a bank. Tbh something rubbed me the wrong way about this. I understand this is how they had to get Henry and Corina together with Jack, but it just felt waaaaay too goofy (also, the special effects looked mediocre...). So many innuendos...A lot of the pacing towards the beginning felt sooo weeeird to me DX

When we got to the hanging scene though omg that was nice. It may have been rather similar to how Will saves Jack in the first film, but it was comedic and clever. This is when I started getting excited for this movie.

Then we get to the Jack and Salazar flashback moment. I fangirled so hard at young!Jack. I know they some him in the trailer of the film but hooot daaaaang, it was really nice to see how he became captain and stuff. 

It just kinda went better and better from there. I also really enjoyed possessed!Henry cuz I love that sort of stuff yesss

A lot of it was cheesy, but idk I thought it was kinda nice. I enjoyed it SO much more than potc4, but it’s not better than the first one. I kinda like it on the same level as potc2 and potc3~

So like, time for things I’m uncertain about. Did Barbosa rename the Queen Anne’s Revenge to the Wicked Wench? Or is the Wicked Wench a new ship? Idk man I just wish we got to see more of Barbosa with the magic sword

Also what I would like to know is when did Barbosa find the time to hook up with a woman and knock her up? Corina looks to be the same age if not slightly older than Henry, and Will/Elizabeth happened at the end of AWE. Barbosa would have had to knocked a wench up around that time too right? He couldn’t have done it before since he died before DMC (and Corina does not look old enough to have been born during CotBP).. I don’t think he would have done something like that during the events of OST since I don’t think Corina is much younger than Henry...Unless if I’m missing something in the potc timeline?

Thing I hated: I hated how much they advertised “WILL TURNER IS BACK!!!!” and he’s only in it for two scenes like ??? Also, they solved Will’s curse wayyy too easily imo

The after credits scene was fun tho! I wish we could get to see them explore it since it sounds like they aren’t gonna make a sixth one. Oh well, FANFIC WRITERS, GO!
