Part A: things ive noticed myself/seen first hand

okay number one! they said that theyre diagnosed with bipolar, which THEY ARENT. first off, diagnosis are expensive asf no matter what youre trying to diagnose and im not being mean at all but just saying theyre on the free lunches plan soo, two diagnosis takes agessss and they just so happen to suddenly have one??

number two, theyll shit talk like everyone. i only started noticing recently that most of what comes out of their mouth is shit talk. and its fine if you have a lot to say about shitty people but then you immediately talk to them again as if you didnt just say you want to curb stomp them?? it gets confusing and ngl is really bitchy

number three! milked tf out of the fact that one of their friends said they might be autistic. which no. autism isnt something you should milk for attention!! and like the only symptoms they have are the depressive ones which USUALLY should lead you to believe that maybe you just have depression? idk im not a psychologist

on that note, they want to be a psychologist, yet doesnt understand why people act the way they do (like theyll shittalk people for things they cant fucking control) and also has rheir own problems? this would most likely be even more self destructive right? to have to solve others mental health before your own? idk im just thinking

also also they seem to care more about getting into relationships (AT THE AGE THEYRE AT) than grades which uh. yes i am literally on my knees yearning for a relationship but also at least im actually doing school and excelling academically ✌️

Part B: things ive been told

this part is where it gets more blurry, since some isnt backed up (but most is dw!)

they dated C two years ago and used to do freaky shi to them at the back of the bus (make out, cuddle, touch thighs, etc), which a friend of ours i’ll call F saw first hand! um ew.

they trauma dumped on C first things first which uh

C and F would sit with each other a lot and talk alotttt because theyre both neurodivergent and nd people tend to go well and D got all pissy and like “me when my friends leave me out..” and so to shut them up (shut me up? by msi?) F told them that they might be autistic and they started milking tf out of it

told a bunch of people that C sa’d them which C did not! also told F that C’s sa story was fake and that C mentally and physically abused them (there are screenshot proof of D saying this btw!)

told people that im not autistic and that im faking it because im self diagnosed which THEY LITERALLY ARE + IVE DONE COUNTLESS HOURS OF RESEARCH ON AUTISM LEAVE ME ALONE

something ive noticed but isnt it weird that all their relationships lasted only a couple months? kinda says something

was a terrible friend to F, F noticed and cut off ties (good for them!! They have so much courage because i could legit never i love them for that 💪💪) and then they proceeded to send a lengthy apology which was all bs btw!

ive been told that they faked their trauma, substance abuse, and their eating disorders, but tbh im not sure if that’s true or not (considering ive seen texts theyve gotten from their mum about eating)

I think the biggest problem I’ve had with this year has been the like… weird sense of emotional whiplash and lack of narrative cohesion, mostly tied to POV changes?

First of all, this year more than ever, it feels as if… I think Ngozi wants to be telling a happy, triumphant friendship-and-romance story with wacky humour in it, but then she ALSO wants to be dealing with all the heavy stuff that comes with anxiety and hockey and masculinity, and being closeted… But she isn’t always balancing the two, all that well, the way that previous years have done.

I also want to say, that I attribute a TON of that, to the amount of shifting POV, this year. 

Apart from really key moments, (almost always with Jack, at the end of a year, and still focused AROUND Bitty) the comic has been in Bitty’s POV, pretty much the whole time.

That’s worked. It’s grounded it in a way that it necessary for the content, and for the emotional side of things. At the end of the day, this is Bitty’s story, so the tight focus on his perspective was really, really crucial.

This year, we’ve had stuff from a lot more different perspectives. And I get it! There’s a temptation to experiment with form and structure, to shake things up, and expand the larger part of the world, and show aspects of other characters. The trouble is that the change hasn’t always worked.

More from Jack, I understand, because it has become a lot more about his story, as well, and since we’ve been inside his headspace before, that’s okay. Many of those, have been pretty good.

But we’ve also gotten kinda extraneous ones, or ones that put us at a remove from Bitty’s emotional core, which is the heart of the story, in ways that end up really distracting from the narrative.

This happens especially when there are several updates in a row, that are purportedly about the same thing, but in multiple shifting POVs, and you lose the momentum of things, because of that.

What ends up happening is getting moments like Bitty crying over the phone about the pain of being closeted, and Jack rushing to come to his side, and be together with him as a team, and its poignant and heartfelt and a little bit painful….

Then the very next update is jerking you right out of Bitty’s POV and into that of the team. Where it’s all happy and chirpy, and they’re arguing over brunch, and it turns out that they not only knew and didn’t tell them, but they were actively betting on it, like Bitty & Jack being closeted was a joke to them?

It totally derailed the emotion of the previous update, and we never get back into Bitty’s head in the next little bit, to really see how he feels about the fact that they knew.

There’s no emotional fall-out, it’s all fine, no worries, hahaha! And that doesn’t feel authentic to what we’ve just seen out of Bitty.

And then again, with this, whatever it is supposed to be.

We have an update of Bitty crying about not being able to his mother about being closeted, then the next comic is totally in Jack’s POV, and its intense and serious and focused, and we don’t know if he won or not…

Then suddenly we’re back in Bitty’s POV, and we feel a little confused because did they win? what happened after the last panel? what?

But Bitty is joyful and full of love and hope and possibility, and he wants to come out, and there’s this huge swell of emotion and nervousness that we get, waiting to see the kiss….

and then BLAM. we’re neck deep in other characters POVs again, and everyone is tense and frustrated and confused, and because of that, we just lost all of the joy and excitement.

We get Shitty freaking out and being his usual jokey self during a moment when that doesn’t work, we have three entire  panels of Kent Parson reacting to it while random hockey players spew casual totally-not-homophobia, and George treating it as a Big Problem in Her Job, Bitty’s parents being shocked, Holster is all worried…

But Jack & Bitty are completely MIA, and it feels jarring.

Like, if you compare the narrative flow and emotional beats of the last few updates of the last year, how deeply satisfying they were, to the last few of this year?

Compared to that, this time around? I’m not even sure how to react, because it’s telling us ten different, mostly overall negative reactions, instead of letting us see Bitty in the moment, or even see any coverage that is halfway excited or happy for them…

What are we supposed to be taking away? That it was a mistake? That Bitty’s moment of joy and love and openess is taking a toll on other people? That coming out of the closet was a mistake, doing it like that? That Jack and Bitty have nothing ahead of them but a wave of PR and emotional fall-out?

We’re going to be stuck on that, and those questions, for the entire hiatus, instead of on the kind of joy and excitement that last year’s kiss had, and I just... I don’t know why Ngozi would choose that. I don’t know why she would want that to be how the year ends, or why she would set things up that way.

It just feels like a hot mess, and I don’t know what to think.

My Experience With Transitioning

fuck me im just copying and pasting what I’ve done up until now

Info already so right now i think im nonbinary but i think i might be completely trans idk (edit later in time: i can say for sure I am completely trans, not just nonbinary.), ive felt this way for a while and my bud sen helped me figure it all out bc i was hella confused and i felt very masculine. A year and a few months ago I cut my hair super short and realized that this was how I've always wanted it because oh my god if i ever grew long hair again id want to die, i hate it and i hated how I looked. So that was that and i was like that for a while and I think sometime during the summer of 2015 i figured out what I wanted to be called (ryan). I started out w/ having people on the internet call me that and it was awesome, but kinda weird having people in real life call me by my birth name and it was really odd. Then October came and my stepcousin was getting married- during that wedding was when i told my dad and stepmum i wanted to be called ryan so I consider that to be the time when I actually started transitioning. It took a painfully long time to get my mother on board to be honest, her boyfriend (who is now her ex) was actually down with it right away but of course he didn't call me or my brother that because it would've been awkward, but we had some late night talks about it frequently. When they broke up it was kinda iffy but I think it was soon after that happened that she started calling me and my brother by our preferred names. At a party my parents went to one night they told all their friends about me and my brother and we've been enrolled in a study, which is 6 MRI's total. I've already had 3 MRI's and let me tell you, they suck, but I think later next year I'm gonna have to get my next round- just basically contribution to help trans people or anyone taking hormones to transition. This year I got into high school and I'm going to a place that's pretty far away from where my last school was, so no one there knows me or that I'm female- I'm completely authentic and I think that's pretty cool, it's what I wanted. So far I think that's all you need to know lmao if I have more info to put down i probably will. Thank you guys for the support, i love you <3 8/29/16 First injection of testosterone. No changes yet ofc, but I found that I was hardly hurt by the needle so now I'm a lot more excited lmao. (Dose amount is currently 0.1 ML) 9/5/16 Second injection. Of course, no changes yet, so there's not much to say except this was my first time doing it at home. stepmum did it tbh, it still surprises me at how much it doesnt hurt lmao 9/12/16 Third injection bois. No really noticeable changes yet however i think i have a bit more hair growth from where the bellybutton is down to the nether areas which is still something and I'll take it xD I'm starting to think I prefer shots in the arm tho. Surprisingly they don't hurt as much as far as I can tell?? it's pretty neat lmao 9/19/16 Still no noticeable changes. I got my blood drawn more than I ever have and it got to the point where my vision became brightly dotted and my ears started ringing like mad, it was awful, i thought i was gonna pass out.
