Sonic Ring Bond: The Journey - Scene 48
Now, unlike last time I can chat a little =D
What is there to say though after Sonic was yeeted last time. Well, in today’s scene everyone will be having their first battle against one the Sword Knights. If you recall, they dealt with Yoluku in the past, whatever that really means XD How many of them there were though and how powerful hasn’t been brought up yet, but in today’s scene you should get your first real taste. So please, join the battle in...
“SONIC!!”
Rosy and Tails shouted out in unison as Sonic careened through the upside-down castle town. Tails was more flustered by it than Rosy, simply due to having more experience in the town.
“Oh no! If Sonic ends up somewhere I haven’t studied the gravitational fields and warps–!”
“Ho!” Claymore shouted and distracted Tails as he deftly bounced from one point to another in rhythm to some unheard beat. The sight of the three-meter tall autogolem moving so gracefully was enough to get Tails to lower his hands from his head. Especially as Claymore addressed him.
“You are free to retrieve the Ring Mage child,” Claymore began before lowering his eyes down to Rosy who he now stood before. Her cheeks were puffed up and red with obvious rage, but Claymore was unconcerned as he continued. “I advise you keep him away, however. Those foolish enough to play with the work of Yoluku are the sworn enemies of the Knights of the Sword. But should the medium accompany us willingly this day, I will gladly overlook his existence. Ho!”
“No way!” Rosy shouted up at Claymore as she thrusts her fists down and her hips back. “You came and attacked my friend’s airship, and then you attacked Sonic and called him your enemy!”
“You must understand Lady Medium–”
“I don’t have to understand anything!” Rosy shouted and interrupted Claymore. “You came in here picking a fight instead of talking, and then you threatened my friends and called them your enemies! Then right now I’m your enemy too because I’m Sonic’s girlfriend!”
“I believe that is my cue,” Mighty announced and lured Claymore to look over his shoulder back at the armadillo. The armadillo who had pulled free a huge chunk of a building and held it easily above his head. “Just so you know, I’m not fond of violence. But to protect my friends… Well, I won’t hold back if I have to.”
“Ho! Your uncertainty belies your kind nature young man,” Claymore laughed as he turned to fully face Mighty. “But I have no fear of a man who wields the earth as his weapon. Be-HO-ld!”
With a flash of purple light, the buildings around Claymore were blown apart and Rosy was flung away from them. She was fortunate to already be running as well, lest the sudden gravitational well that Claymore became the center of would have pulled her right in. As it was, Mighty lost his grip on the chunk of building as it was pulled apart and had to take hold of where he stood to keep his footing.
“This isn’t good,” Mighty remarked as the building began to crumble underfoot. Looking up he saw Rosy looking back as Tails fought a losing battle in the air to get away. Straining a smile, Mighty looked at Rosy and shouted. “Run, little Rosy! We’ll be alright, somehow!”
~I shouldn’t have. I should have stayed and fought. But Mighty’s face… I think that autogolem is stronger than him. But it’s not like they weren’t trying. As soon as Claymore realized I wasn’t in reach of his mean ability, he turned to reach for me with a massive purple mouth of light and shadows that sprouted from his arm. Draw took that moment though and fired at him with an explosive arrow. I don’t know if it hurt him because when him and Tails told me to run. Well… I ran!
~But I’m not running without a plan. I just have to find Sonic, and then we can go back and figure out how to beat this mean old knight. I hope Gill and Blister are okay too.
~Snap out of it Rosy! First, I have to find Sonic. I know they’ll all be okay. I just have to help Sonic first and then I know we can beat this mean old knight!~
“Gyaa~!” Rosy screamed as she ran around a spiraling bridge and a group of autogolems that resembled knightly helmets on spider leg fashioned armor chased her. “Why are there autogolems away from the ship too!”
The answer to Rosy’s question rested in the rumors about herself that she failed to notice. Despite her best efforts to keep a low profile on her speed and use of Rings, she had grown lax in her efforts after she had met up with and started traveling again with Sonic. Claymore was also being prepared for the potential appearance of Saber. Naturally, Rosy was not privy to any of that knowledge. All she knew was that she was being chased by autogolems that could best be called Squire Legs.
“Ooh~! I don’t like having to fight! I’m not good enough at it like Sonic yet!”
Rosy complained, but she was not ill prepared to fight the Squire Legs as they converged on her in the impossible castle town.
Skidding to a stop, Rosy performed a backflip and landed on the Squire Legs closest to her. It turned its head full around to look at her with glowing golden eyes under its black armor and Rosy stuck her tongue out at it. She meant to provoke it further, however…
“Yech! That’s disgusting, even if you are an autogolem!”
Grossed out, Rosy propped herself up on her hands and stuck her legs out to the sides in a full split. Then she snapped them down onto the ground and caused herself to lift the Squire Legs fully off the ground.
As the autogolem had been chasing her, it had too much momentum and Rosy ended up arching over backwards and body slamming it into the next one that was coming up behind her. The impact and entire motion left Rosy dizzy, and she remained arched there until the rest of the ones behind her crashed into the first two and was sent tumbling forward by the impact.
“Woah!”
With a cry, Rosy curled into a ball and bounced off the ground before uncurling to right herself. The Squire Legs that had attempted to cut her off from ahead were well ahead of her now, having completely overshot her.
“Bye-bye~♥”
With a wave and a wink, Rosy took off in her continued pursuit of Sonic. Naturally, though she would have easily surprised Tails in the awkward castle town for being able to pull it off, Rosy found Sonic. Whether she would credit her success to them being destined lovers or her intuition was left unsaid this time, instead she simply tackled Sonic with a relieved hug.
“Sonic! You’re okay!”
“Barely,” Sonic remarked with a serious look.
“What happened?” Rosy asked, looking up from where she buried her face in Sonic’s chest. “Is that autogolem really so scary?”
“I wouldn’t call that bucket face scary, but he’s definitely strong. And I don’t know how he grabbed me like that.”
“He started eating the whole town when I ran,” Rosy informed Sonic, though she looked down ashamed. “I just wish I could have helped more than by running to find you.”
“You did good, kid,” Sonic offered Rosy a rare compliment and rustled her bangs. Even upset as she was, she loved how comforting that action always was from Sonic and her tail began to wag as she let herself be coddled. Gentle as Sonic was being though, there was a tenseness in his body, and it was obvious he was enraged.
“Sonic…,” Rosy mumbled into his chest hoping to calm him down.
And then Sonic sneezed.
“SO~NI~C!” Rosy wailed. “That’s gross! Ew~! I can feel it all over my spines and back. EWWW~~~~~!!!!!”
“Heh,” Sonic snickered and rubbed his nose. He knew they were in trouble though. Turning his head to look to the side while Rosy shuddered and trembled in complete disgust, he saw Claymore standing on the top of an upside-down roof. Or perhaps Sonic was the upside-down one where he stood on a sideways bridge. With a sea of endless fog below the land bridge it was impossible to tell. It also didn’t matter with Claymore before him.
The silence was also enough to finally get Rosy to look up and spot the knight. The knight who was missing the spire-like peak of his helmet as it served as the grip of the claymore he had drawn out of his body and held in one hand. The sight of such read as a threat to Rosy and she puffed up her cheeks as her spines stiffened to the point where they could pierce steel even without her performing a Spin Attack. “You–You big meanie! Just go away!”
“I cannot do that Lady Medium,” Claymore assured Rosy as he pointed at her and the return of the Gear Star Ring in place of her left iris. “You are connected to Yoluku, and it is imperative that I take you into my custody.”
“And I already told you… NO WAY!”
“You heard the lady, pal,” Sonic smirked.
“Ho! You would be so brazen to refuse even when your friends are now my prisoners.”
“Don’t,” Sonic warned Rosy as she started to finally release him from her embrace. To her surprise he actually took her hand, lacing their fingers together. Whether there was romantic intent or not was lost on Rosy as the motion alone completely enthralled her and kept her right where Sonic needed her.
“I bet they are, and after all the trouble I’ve been going through to get everyone back together so we can go home. In case you haven’t heard Sir Bucketface, my friends and I aren’t from around here. We’ve even been trying to avoid causing any trouble, but now you’ve crossed a line I can’t forgive.”
“Sonic…?” Rosy questioned as she looked up at Sonic and saw the anger on his face, the severity of his expression.
“Ho! A challenge,” Claymore laughed.
“That’s right,” Sonic assured him. “You knightly types like your duels, so consider it entertainment for your fancy party. ‘Cause I’m going to be crashing it and taking back my friends and leaving you exposed as the fairy you are inside that oversized tin can.”
~I wanted to ask Sonic what he meant when he called Claymore a fairy, but before I knew it, he opened a Ring Gate, and we were flung far from the weird little castle town. And flung far from all our friends too. But Sonic assured me they would be fine. So, I believe him.
~And we got early proof of it too!
~Blister’s Ring Radio aboard her ship was working like it should, and it turns out while the others were fighting Gill slipped her onboard. Her autogolems were able to drive off the ones that came with Claymore and they got away ready to help us rescue Tails, Mighty, Draw, and Mote. Of course, Blister called Gill a coward, but he knew Sonic could make a Ring Gate and bet on Sonic and me getting out by one. Tee-hee! Gill really is special! Now if only he could give up stealing Rings.
~But I’ll forgive Gill this time. He saved Blister and her ship and is ready to help us rescue everyone. Hee-hee! I’m looking forward to crashing a big party with Sonic~♥~
Scene 48 · CLEARED Reunion Knight, End
-----
And for a change, Sonic chose to make a strategic retreat. Do you think he’s being wise choosing to fight on a more stable environment, or do you think this decision will come back to bite Sonic in the rear? Well, we’ll find out next time, and I hope you’ll join me! Thank you!

before I go (part I)
Summary : Your time was running out.
[dad! shawn] , [super sad]
word count : 1286 words
-
As you rested on the hospital bed, you heard a soft knock on the door and it opened. It was Shawn. You looked over to him and let out a weak smile. He was wearing his denim jacket against the cold hospital air. He carried a bouquet of flowers. He smiled to your view by the doorframe and called, "Come on darling!" out the door.. did he bring Beth?
Shawn looked back at you, "Guess who's here to visit you!" You furrowed my eyebrows, "Shawn... she can't see me like this. We talked about it remember?" You said weakly.
"Honey, Beth has been missing you like crazy. The school has been calling like non-stop because she's always crying over the fact that she can't see her mother." Shawn sighed.
"Shawn-" You were cut off by the abrupt arrival of your daughter at the doorframe. You gulped and feared for her reaction. All the tubes, the gown, the monitor, the flowers. You couldn't stand to see what reaction Beth would have.
"Mummy?"
You took a deep breath, "Hey darling." You said, trying to put all your energy to sound alright. Beth hopped over, still confused with the whole atmosphere.
"Uhmmmm what's all this?" She asked while poking on the tubes. "Why is there a tube in your nose?" She asked innocently. All you wanted to do was just hug her in your arms. You couldn't lift myself up so you just stroked her fingers. "Mummy's just a little ill. These tubes are here to make mummy a lot better." You reassured. Beth smiled to the assurance. "Ow cool!"
Shawn walked over and hugged Beth from the back. "Darling why not you sit next to mummy on the bed?" . Beth nodded with excitement and Shawn carried her, carefully placing her beside you. He then took a seat by the bedside. You wrapped my arms around her.
"Mummy you look so skinny." Beth said. Your heart dropped a lil' . You simply smiled, "So how was school darling?" You asked, changing the subject.
"Cool! My school is having a Mother's Day celebration next week. Will you go with me mummy? Pretty please. All mummies will go on stage- Oh! oh! And we have something very special to show you on stage." Beth begged. You chuckled, "Already saying pretty please to everything huh? Who taught you that?" You asked. "Daddy did! He said if I say pretty please to anything I can get anything I want." She innocently pointed at Shawn. You looked over Shawn who put his hands up, "Guilty." He said.
Without hesitation, "Of course I'll go darling. I wouldn't miss it for the world." You said as you reached to kiss for your daughter's cheek.
"Yay! Thank you mummy." she squealed as she wrapped her small arms around your neck and kissed you on your cheek. She was so sweet.
After a while of chit chat, you caught yourself getting more and more weak in the conversation but you didn't fail to listen to every word your daughter had to say.
"That's great darling. I'm so proud of you." You cheered as your daughter just finished sharing how well her performance was in school.
Shawn noticed your condition. He patted Beth, "Hey darling, why not you have lunch with grandma and grandpa outside yeah? They're with Aunt Aaliyah too." Beth simply smiled. "Do you need daddy to accompany you?" Shawn asks. Beth wrapped her arms and shook her head confidently, "Nope!" You and Shawn laughed, "Alright darling, stay safe yeah." Beth looked over to you, "Bye mummy, see you later!" She squealed as she jumped off the bed and walked out the door. You mouthed to Shawn to go take a look at her to make sure she was safe. Shawn nodded and watched her by the doorframe as she left.
"Our little girl is so independent..and strong..and so sweet.." you said. Shawn closes door and walks over to you. He sits on the bed and cups your cheeks, "She is, just like her mummy." Your hands hold onto Shawn's hand on your cheek. You stroke his hand with his thumb.
"How are you? What have the doctors said?" He asks. You sigh. "Not good.." you shake your head. You continued, "It's getting worse Shawn..I-I ..." you cracked. "I don't think I have much time left." Shawn was taken aback, you could feel his heart drop and the tears that were about to brim.
"B-But all the treatment, the medicine, the therapy-" you cut him off, "The doctors tried." Shawn shakes his head in tears, in denial . "No-no.. I'm not letting you go. You're not leaving, not now, not ever." Your heart dropped just looking at him. "I'm going to make sure you get the best treatment and that you have all the support you need. Because baby you're worth fighting for. I still need you, Beth needs you. We all need you. You're too precious."
You rubbed his hands, "C'mere" You said as you brought Shawn in for a hug. You felt his sobs in your shoulder.
-
It was Monday morning. The floral scent from the flowers Shawn gave crept in your nose as you yawned. You were alone, Shawn probably went to send Beth to school. You tried to prop yourself up as you felt the urge to go to the bathroom. You slowly slipped your legs out from the blanket and tried to place your feet on the floor. Once you did , you grabbed onto the pole to stand up. You weakly tried to walk over to the bathroom, putting your grip on the pole as it rolled on the floor.
And then everything went black.
-
“I’m sorry Mr. Mendes her health is declining.”
“Until how long?”
“At this condition, we give it less than a week.”
“W-What?!”
“I’m very sorry, we’ve tried everything. It’s deteriorating to the point that nothing is work.”
“Jesus Christ! We have a family!”
“I’m very very very sorry. I urge your family to spend these last days with her.”
-
You opened your eyes to the moonlight shining through the window. You were confused, wasn’t it just the morning? In panic, you tried to prop yourself up with your elbows.
“Honey, honey, it’s okay.” A voice calmly called. You looked over to your side and saw Shawn, he looked distressed. His eyes were freshly red. “Babe, what’s going on?” You asked.
He sighed. “You passed out. You’re in good hands.” He smiled to reassure you. “Where’s Beth?” You questioned. “It was getting late so Aaliyah took her home. She’ll be coming to visit you first thing after school tomorrow.”
“Right, right...” you sighed. “How are you feeling babe?” You looked over to him. You answered, “I-I don’t know..”
Shawn wrapped his arms around you. You simply smiled. “Can you lay here with me in bed?”. He nodded and got on bed with you. He stroked your cheek. You wrapped your arms around his waist. “Kiss me?” You asked innocently. Shawn obliged and slowly kissed you. It soon started to turn passionate. His kisses went down to your neck. He looked up to you, his hazel eyes staring deep into you. You knew what he was asking for. You nodded, granting his permission. You two got lost in each other. One thing led to another and you both eventually ended up in each other’s arms throughout the night.
When Shawn was fast asleep, you whisper, “I’m going to miss this.” You whisper into his warm chest, drawing circles on his bare back.
-

Adrinette April Day 28: Dating/Disguises
Part 1 I Part 2 I Part 3 I Part 4 I Part 5 l Part 6 l Part 7
Marinette shrieked and pulled at her thumb.
“No! Wait! Just tell me… is the kid all right?” The kwami’s huge green eyes were solemn.
“He’s fine,” Marinette exhaled, slowing her motions.
“Okay, then, what are you doing with my ring?”
“It… it’s an accident. I didn’t know it was Adrien’s Miraculous.”
If Plagg was surprised that Marinette knew Chat Noir’s civilian name, he didn’t show it. He motioned for her to continue. Marinette shook her head.
“There’s no time to talk. Adrien’s already getting in position to take Sartorina down.”
“Without me?” Plagg nearly shouted. He zipped to and fro in front of Marinette’s face as she held up her right hand to protect herself from the tiny projectile.
“And without me if you don’t shut your cheese hole.”
A slow grin spread across Plagg’s face - it reminded Marinette a little of Chat Noir. “You’re Tikki’s girl, aren’t you? I like you. So here’s what we’re gonna do…”
Adrien watched from behind an advertisement post as Sartorina casually mugged, stripped, or tied up anyone in her path. Every once in a while she’d pause, look someone over, and turn them into a minion. Her green-eyed army stretched out on the sidewalk behind her as they moved slowly to the Champ de Mars. Fortunately, they weren’t on the lookout, or they’d have easily seen him behind the pole.
Adrien could only assume the broad, open space and casual violence were meant to draw out Ladybug and Chat Noir. Well, Hawkmoth was in for a disappointment. The jewelry he so fiercely sought was hidden under costume-rack dust bunnies.
Sweat trickled down Adrien’s neck into the collar of Mrs. Cheng’s jacket. Late afternoon sun that had nearly blinded him when he stumbled through the fire exit now pounded down on his increasingly itchy wig. He scratched just a bit at the edges, trying not to dislodge or rumple his ill-fitting disguise.
Marinette had said to give her five minutes to get there. He didn’t know exactly what she had planned, but his Ladybug never let him down. Come to think of it, neither did his friend Marinette. How could he have missed the way they so obviously lined up? In hindsight, it was impossible to believe Ladybug could be anyone else. Adrien ticked down the last minute, sneaking a glance as Sartorina led her grand procession to the center of the Champ de Mars. She finally stopped moving, her army halting behind her at one swipe of her arm.
Well, this was it.
Feeling like a total idiot, Adrien crossed the green lawn at top speed and stopped right behind the last zombie, clearing his throat.
“Oh, Sartorinaaa! It’s me, Marinette!” he called out, his voice a ridiculous falsetto that wouldn’t convince an infant.
He wiggled his fingers in greeting as Sartorina spun around suspiciously. A crowd of baleful green eyes followed her lead and Adrien swallowed nervously, pulling at a pigtail.
“Uh, so, are you gonna take me down or what? All this showing off has me bored,” he continued, his voice squeaking at an uncomfortably high range.
Sartorina’s eyes flashed with rage. “You’re not Marinette! What is this, some kind of joke?”
Her tape measure lashed out. Adrien ducked and rolled away to avoid it. The minions slowly picked up on the conflict happening in front of them and headed toward Adrien. He ran backward, staying just out of reach.
“Get him! Just get him! Hawkmoth says take a hostage!” Sartorina screamed.
Adrien took off again over the grass. He didn’t want to leave the Champ de Mars, but he was running out of room. Where was Marinette?
“Hey, Sartorina! Time to mend your ways!” called a new voice and everyone on the lawn turned as one.
Adrien used the moment to his advantage, finding a tree to provide some cover. He took a couple gulps of air, then looked up, only to find he couldn’t breathe anymore.
Chat Noir stood confidently at the other end of the Champ de Mars, hand on hip.
“Finally!” Sartorina exclaimed. “Where the heck have you been? Do you know how boring it is to be a supervillain with no superhero?”
“That won’t be your purr-oblem much longer, Sartorina. I’m here to clean up the mess you made.”
“Oh, that’s funny, coming from the guy who can only destroy things.”
Chat Noir didn’t waste any more words. The figure in black tensed, then charged Sartorina, baton extended in one hand. Sartorina squared her shoulders and fired away with the tape measure. Chat Noir deflected the blow easily, sweeping the baton down and across her body. She cartwheeled out of reach before Sartorina could make a second attack.
Adrien watched in frank admiration. Marinette handled the persona of Chat Noir as though she’d been born to it. How had Plagg found her? A stab of jealousy hit him, but whether it was because Marinette had his kwami or Plagg had the girl he loved, Adrien wasn’t sure. Maybe it was just that they were apparently on very good terms without him.
Taking a chance, Adrien ran from the tree trunk to meet the new Chat Noir on the lawn. Her blue eyes widened as she saw him coming.
“Adrien! Be careful!”
He came close and saw she’d removed the belt from her costume and secured it over her torso to immobilize her left arm. The right hand held his baton. Adrien’s fingers flexed involuntarily and he had to stop himself from taking back his weapon.
“I think together we can hem them in and finish this,” she said, eyes flashing.
“Why, Milady, you never told me what a witty kitty you are.”
“Don’t get used to it. This is a one-time thing. Here.”
With a snap of her arm, Chat Noir telescoped the baton and handed Adrien one end. He separated it and took his half, unconscious relief washing over him.
“Better?” Chat Noir smirked.
“Yeah. Much,” he sighed.
He turned just as the wave of Sartorina’s army met their position. Adrien and Chat Noir battled their way through the group, only to find Sartorina ready for them, tape measure in hand.
“This is our only shot!” Chat Noir yelled. “Cataclysm!”
Her hand lit up with eldritch light just as Sartorina whipped her tape measure forward. Realizing her mistake, Sartorina tried to yank the flexible tape back but it was too late. Chat Noir grabbed it out of the air and the dark power of Cataclysm reduced it to ashes on the spot.
A purple-veined butterfly flittered up and out of the debris. Without thinking, Adrien dropped his half of the baton and cupped both hands around the magic insect. The import of his action hit him a moment later and he looked at Chat Noir, uncertain.
“What do I do with it?” he asked.
“Just think very happy thoughts… and don’t let it slip out between your fingers!” Chat Noir’s Miraculous beeped. “Oh no. We’ve got to go!”
“With Sartorina still here?”
“And with all these people still zombified. What else can we do, Adrien?”
“I guess we can hurry,” he replied.
Chat Noir snatched up the discarded half of the baton and the pair ran out of the park. Adrien could see Chat Noir’s discomfort as she gritted her teeth and kept pace with him.
“Do you need to stop?” he asked, remembering the injuries to her ribs.
“We can’t. We’ve got to get back to the auditorium to purify this akuma. Really shows what a good team we make, doesn’t it?”
Adrien glanced around at the empty street behind them as they turned into the alley where the backstage door was. His hands felt strangely hot and cold at the same time and his fingers were getting a bit numb. He could feel the soft wings and tiny feet of the akuma brushing against his palms, weakly attempting to find freedom.
“Do you think Hawkmoth can see us?” he whispered.
Chat Noir shook her head as she pulled open the door to the back of the stage. “No. He watches through the eyes of those he akumatizes. As long as we got away from Sartorina, we’ll be fine.”
The last beep of her Miraculous sounded and Marinette’s transformation fell away in a burst of green light just as the door slammed closed behind them. Plagg shot away from her and bounced around the room, looking disgruntled.
“Oh, good, you got Adrien back. Where’s my cheese, kid?” he asked as Marinette turned on the lights.
“I’m a bit busy right now, Plagg,” Adrien shot back, lifting his closed hands as proof.
“Plagg, can you help me find my Miraculous?” Marinette asked sweetly.
“Ugh, alright,” Plagged replied, aggrieved. “Whatever gets me cheese the fastest.”
He flew swiftly through the backstage, over and under objects and debris, and returned in a few seconds with a pair of earrings grasped in his paws.
“Get to it, girl. Exposure to akumas is no fun for anyone, even if you’re not akumatized.”
“Tell me about it,” Marinette muttered as she put on her earrings.
Tikki emerged in a burst of red light and flew at her Chosen, cuddling close into Marinette’s neck.
“Marinette!! What were you thinking? Are you okay? Where’s Hawkmoth? Where’s Chat Noir?”
Marinette brought her hand up gently to her kwami, pulling her away.
“We’re all okay, for now. I need to transform and purify this akuma, Tikki! Then we can talk. And I can say I’m sorry.” The girl and the kwami exchanged smiles. “Tikki, spots on!”
Adrien watched as Marinette’s transformation provided the final proof of Ladybug’s identity. Her mask in place, Ladybug uncoupled the yoyo at her waist with one hand. Adrien pried apart his stiffened fingers and the akuma rose delicately into the air. With a single snap under his nose, Ladybug’s yoyo encased it and brought it to her. She traced her thumb over the seam that would release the purified akuma and they both watched as the shining white wings fluttered quickly away.
“Bye bye, little butterfly,” she sighed. “Well, that takes care of Sartorina and her goons. Now we’ve got to… Adrien, what is it?”
Adrien stared at her, his eyes intense. “You’re wearing both Miraculous.”
“I’m...oh, I am.”
“You could wish for anything. You could do anything.”
Ladybug paused, looking directly into Adrien’s grass-green gaze.
“No, I can’t,” she replied firmly.
She carefully pulled off the Cat Miraculous and pressed it into Adrien’s nerveless fingers.
“I renounce you, Plagg,” she stated.
A bit of the haunted look left Adrien’s eyes and he shook his head. Trembling, he put the ring on his finger. Plagg reappeared, arms crossed over his tiny belly.
“You look ridiculous in that wig. I’m not kidding, now. Feed me or I’ll never transform you again.”
Adrien tended to his kwami as Ladybug turned away, exhausted.
“Alright, Tikki. One last thing. Miraculous Ladybug!”
Ladybug’s call released the magical swarm that would put the city right. She sighed, relieved, as the pain in her body eased. She was never sure how far the magic would go, but this time it reset her shoulder and mended her ribs along with the damage to Paris. Ladybug released her transformation with a whisper. A tired and relieved Tikki flitted away, disappearing into Marinette’s purse without a word to enjoy a well-deserved cookie.
Marinette turned back to Adrien and saw him with new eyes. There were some things her powers couldn’t put back the way they were.
“So.”
“So,” she echoed, rubbing one elbow.
“Now we know,” Adrien confirmed.
“Yup,” Marinette agreed.
A ragged grin creased Adrien’s cheeks, followed by a blush. “Any chance you want to be my superhero girlfriend?”
Marinette’s jaw dropped, but then she pursed her lips and narrowed her eyes.
Adrien knew she was putting Chat Noir’s clever ways together with Adrien’s earnest demeanor. Surely it was clear now that Ladybug was the only girl he ever flirted with?
“You’re a smooth operator, Agreste,” she said, shaking her head with a smile.
He reached out a hand and she closed the distance between them, unresisting when he pulled her into an embrace. The pair stood motionless. Tired, supporting each other, they sank down onto a chair at a nearby makeup table. Adrien sighed, satisfied, as Marinette nuzzled her nose into the crook of his neck.
“Are you okay with this?” she murmured, scooching closer on his lap and bringing her arms even further around him.
“It’s all I’ve ever wanted,” Adrien reassured her.
He kissed her forehead gently, then yanked off his silly wig as the hair fell in his eyes.
Adrien tried to fall asleep in his bed that night, but it was no use. He couldn’t shake the image of Ladybug wearing his ring from his mind. She gained both Miraculous so easily. Well, not easily, but almost carelessly. At her insistence, they protected their identities for this very reason. He’d always wanted to know who Ladybug was, but it was for the girl under the mask, not her powers. Renouncing their Miraculous had been incredibly reckless, in hindsight.
Troubled, he rolled over and reached for his phone. He wanted to call his new girlfriend, but stopped when he saw the late hour. It could wait. He sent her a text instead, then resettled himself on the bed with a sigh. He wondered if Marinette would ever do such a thing again. He wondered what he would have done if he’d been the one to put on both Miraculous. Adrien didn’t need money or power, certainly...but there was one thing he wished for. He pushed that particular thought down. Dwelling on it would keep him up all night.
Adrien’s mind turned to Hawkmoth. Their enemy was relentless in pursuing their Miraculous. What if Hawkmoth wasn’t just greedy and self-interested? What if the villain sought their Miraculous for something more?
