hi burnt ice anon here. can't say that i'm a mind reader lmao but this isn't the first time that my writing has managed to hit someone right in the kink~ so i'll take your response as the highest of compliments <3
anyways i really like yours and mold friend's merformer stuff so i'm gonna throw my hat into the ring with a bit of megamagrod (think that's their ship name) enjoy~
so rodimus and magnus are the captain and sic of the lost light, which i feel would be a research vessel investigating a series of shipwrecks caused a certain merformer out in the middle of the arctic circle
and oh boy do they find the merformer when they get there. he's massive, like half the size of their ship massive and immediately rodimus is down bad, because the intelligence of the big guy, who he soon learns is named megatron, is just so intriguing to a young intrepid researcher like himself. magnus is more concerned about his captain's/lover's new fascination with the merformer because megatron has drowned like six ships and there have been no survivors.
but after a late night conversation on an iceberg with megatron, magnus too, finds himself down bad. they actually learn that megatron was only attacking ships who were trying to hunt him down and that he has a really big interest in human literature
cue really sweet and fluffy courting between all parties involved and rodimus being a really fucking horny size queen and drooling over how massive megatron's spike is.
perhaps merformers like megatron have something to the conjunx rites and he spends his spare time making really intricate and very personalised gifts for magnus and rodimus
i feel like magnus would probably be the one to carry any eggs tho (bc rodimus is too small) but honestly i like the idea of the three of them adopting a child instead of eggpreg, maybe cause megatron's massive size (even for someone of his species) has caused some problems involving his fertility. or maybe there are eggs invovled, but bc of cross species stuff, they don't actually hatch and megatron reallys wants kids so they adopt instead
this is less horny and more gushing about sweet merformers fluff but i think those three would be so kinky, especially with how big megatron is and how much of a size queen rodimus is. but i really like your merformers stuff and i wanted to contribute in some way (hope this one's okay since it's less kinky
-burnt ice
This is simply so banger. Despite being called burnt ice, anon, you only drop fire into my inbox
Rodimus is living his best mermaidfucker life... "Ah yeah this is my wrathful sea god mermaid boyfriend <3 his spike is so big I feel it in my throat every time he fucks my valve <3"
If they do adopt a kid... I think they should go full circle, and have it be a merpup who was orphaned by mermaid hunters...

4 Minutes Theory:
What Dr. Den Doesn't Know
Hello. It is I again.
You know the procedure: It's under the cut.
Let's go.
Is It Dream Theory???
I think I could've started by explaining the things that made me consider the theory that I propose today BUT, I think it's only fair to address the elephant in the room first:
Are the events of 4 Minutes dream theory?
Look: maybe I'm wrong and I just fucking hate dream theory bc it's so overused, unoriginal and pointless but I wanna (and I do) believe it's not what's going on. Well... Not exactly.
Let's take it apart.
Tumblr media
My favourite guy over here ^ (look at him, he's beautiful and he's precious and I love him, I wanna keep him inside my house and feed him treats, 'cause he's such a good boy), Dr. Den, is, and we know this since the beginning, conducting a study on what happens to people's brains when they go into cardiac arrest.
More especifically, he wants to know what happens to the brain within the 4 minutes during which it is still alive and without oxygen (before the person either dies or gets medical help).
For this, bc
Tumblr media
(Yes, thank you, Pirates of the Caribbean) Dr. Den is collecting information through the people that have survived that experience. And, so far what we knew was: people have weird experiences when their brain doesn't have oxygen. Which, fair enough, that much was expected.
HOWEVER, this episode (or ep.5, for the people in the future. btw hi 👋) he get LORE through Dr. Den, my our favourite medical exposition guy. And here's what he says:
"Patients' perceptions vary based on their experiences. Some relive past experiences. Some have supernatural powers. Some go back to fix past mistakes. Some get a fresh start with those they love.
Patients' experiences feel real but they aren't entirely accurate. Patients can see memories, hear sounds or feel brief sensations of pain. Even if it is unrelated to what else is going on."
So this might seem pretty revealing and easy to understand: what we've seen so far was going on in Great's brain. This is his dream and it's what his brain is making up to keep him going during the 4 minutes where it nervously waits for someone to rescue it from impending doom.
And yes, I'm not crazy enough to say that's wrong but... Every situation has at least 3 versions of it, we say in Portuguese: mine, yours and the others'. And what I believe we need to see here is that:
What we know is merely what people remember when they wake up and what the medical staff can tell is happening to the body whose brain is 4 minutes without oxygen. It is NOT the whole truth. Not even close.
What Is It Then?
See, I could try and show the evidence first and then make a conclusion but I wanna hit you with a banger theory right away so Imma say it rn:
People's dreams when their brains have no oxygen in them are gateways that generate alternative realities.
And I hear you say: "okay but that's last week's theory, that's not new" and yes, you're correct HOWEVER, under the light of episode 5's events I feel like I need to prove this again. So let's hit it, Fergie!
1 - Dr. Den Recognizes He Has No Idea What the Time Travel Thing Is
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, I know this might just mean Den recognizes he can't explain why it seems many people seem to experience this exact phenomenon of the 4 minutes time travel (which by itself is weird and opens up room for debate on what it means, even on a purely medical level) but I believe it can be used as evidence that something else is going on. That whatever that time travel means it goes being current human medicine, you know?
Even if not, it does prove my earlier point that what we're seing is only a fraction of the truth, that there is more to uncover. And a clear indication of the series (although it might be subtle to many) that we should be looking beyond on what lies on the surface and what Den is telling us.
2 - We're Being Shown Events in the Timeline Where Great Has Powers that Great Couldn't Possibly Know Because He Wasn't There
This is one of the strongest evidence points for me. Because explain to me how and why this man knows what Tyme told his grandma this episode.
Tumblr media
Or how he knows conversations that happened between Dome and the medical staff?
Tumblr media
Sure, Ig you can argue that maybe his brain imagines that's what happens, especially in Tyme's case since, I suppose it would be a nice thing to keep going for to think that your lover is rushing your way but... He barely knows Dome outside of being his classmate so that rule doesn't apply there. The events of Dome's life are, matter of fact, nearly irrelevant to Great's life (outside of the way in which they change Tonkla and Korn's relationship and, therefore, Korn's actions - which is why he was so hurt this episode to be demanded to let Tonkla go, since Tonkla's brother never dies and so he never met Win, thus they never broke up).
And what does anyone even have to say about what we're shown about Dr. Den's research? How does Great know that? Is he making it up? Does he know this in the original universe? How? He doesn't have the powers in the original universe, does he? Did Tyme tell him? Just casually? Idk, it could be, but...
Based on a very good point @yakdee (great URL btw) made on this post about how different the circumstances, motives and depth of GreatTyme's relationship and how they seem to be way more distant than in the current timeline, I do believe it's farfetched to think that Tyme would give Great any free info on his life and that of people around him. Much less on something so specific and seemingly uninteresting to Tyme (how can he, that topic is fascinating) as Den's research. I don't think it would even come to his mind. Matter of fact, I think it's only more prevalent to him in the current timeline bc of what Great told him. Otherwise, he couldn't care less.
Plus, if we think about it more closely... How many lives is Great's brain processing at once, then?? Isn't that kind of a lot?? Doesn't it make more sense for this to be an entirely different timeline where this things ARE happening??
PS: I know I could've also used Korn's dialogues as evidence but since he's the bridge between Great and Tonkla, I think it's hard to use his scenes as evidence for anything bc they could be happening in either Past 1 (the bad past with a bit of an oddity) or Past 2 (the past where Great time travels) [if you want to understand more of why I refer to these timelines this way, pls check out my previous theory]. I don't tink they change much regardless, Korn seems to be the person whose life is the least affected by the changes, out of all the main characters, but... Regardless, I don't think it's good practice to build over a shaky foundation so I have not.
3 - Great Can't Fix His Mother's Death
Now tell me why
Tumblr media
(Ain't nothing but a heartache and a mistake, indeed, my friends) But that wasn't where I was going...
What I meant was: if your brain is making up a better reality where you can fix everything you did wrong, then why the fuck would it choose for your mother to die anyway??? Why, out of all things, was the only thing you could never fix your mom dying??
And sure, I know, I know, people will make the argument that it's the trauma and, like, yeah, Ig if you wanna believe that, that must've been that man's most traumatic moment, sure, I agree. But is that enough? The answer, I think, is: we don't know. Maybe, maybe not...
So... You can believe whatever, so far, I suppose, but the fact is that it leaves it open to interpretation why the events are so. Which means, it can be speculated that, the actual reason behind she dying again is because, for the 1st time since we've started to see Great's trajactory with his powers, he made the wrong choices.
And this is not me saying he's dumb, by the way, like... It's easy to ask for help for someone who's dying. It's only midly hard to land a punch on an murderer, even when he's your best friend. And it's certainly not unthinkable to open up to your crush, even when what you have to reveal is that you're a little bit crazy.
But I think it's extremely hard to stop a man with a gun. Even when your mom's life is on the line.
Tumblr media
In a way, maybe, there is no timeline where Great can change that moment when it comes. Maybe timelines where he can avoid that moment from happening in the first place, yeah... But none in which he can avoid it if it's already there. (remember what I said about Greek Tragidies last week? yeah... it's coming up nicely)
And maybe this is not evidence for some people, which I respect, but to me, narrative intent and logic can be used to make a point. And I think making certain tragidies repeat themselves is part of what the narrative of 4 minutes is about too.
I know last time I talked about the power of people's actions and butterfly effect but that is only part of reality. A lot is under our control but a lot also isn't. And I think it's fair to assume, if the 1st part of this series was about the power, the 2nd will be about the impotence (which is not the sexual kind but I think the amount of sex we've seen in the 1st part is definitely a narrative tool and the fact this was the 1st episode without any sex scene [the flashbacks obviously don't count] is also being one).
Thus, my theory makes narrative sense.
4 - Tonkla's Weird Experiences Exist Outside of Great's Knowledge AND the Timeline He's In
Okay, I get it. It is possible to find alternative explanations to what I'm interpreting here and maybe that makes you doubt me. Fair. But then explain to me what the actual fuck is happening to Tonkla. Pls.
How is that man hearing his dead brother's voice? Seeing his dead cat walk around??
Tumblr media
What does that mean? How can we be seing that if it's just all in Great's head??
I explained in my earlier theory (please check it out) that we're being given direct access to 3 different timelines: the one where Great is in the ER (pre-opening scenes), the one where Great has superpowers (Great-related scenes) and the one where Tonkla hears his brother and sees the cat (Tonkla-related scenes).
Based on that I can't possibly assume Great in the ER who's creating the timeline of Great with superpowers knows what's going on in the Tonkla timeline. He just can't. How would he even? He has no idea (as far as we know) who Tonkla is, that Dome is his brother, that bro had a cat that got killed by his father and that he buried it in Uni grounds... So we can't place that, no matter what, as just another figment of Great's imagination. Those events have to be real.
And if those events, which seem to be caused by Great's interference with the space-time continuum, are real, then that means, no doubts, that the Great Has Powers timeline also has to be.
So What Does It Mean??
Tumblr media
Good question, Miley.
Luckily I have a beautifully tragic answer for you:
It means that when/if Great wakes up from the ER in his timeline nothing will have changed. The events of his life will be exactly the same and life will go on with the consequences of the choices he made the first time. Just like they are for Lukwa who woke up exactly in the same universe as she lost consciousness.
HOWEVER, while for that Great things will be as shitty as they were when he left, it also means that, far away from him, just like there must be another Timeline for Lukwa, there is a different timeline, with a Great who made different choices and, therefore, got a different end.
How different? I don't know. We're yet to see. But I think when we know, we'll be able to compare the two or three (maybe even more, we'll see now that the Great with Powers is also without oxygen in his brain) timelines we're being shown and take our own conclusions about the weight of our actions and the meaning of mistakes.
Final Thoughts
I think this series is doing a great job of making us question a lot of things like what is reality, how time works, what is the real weight of a choice, what is a choice, etc... And I can't wait to see where it leads us. I'm really hyped to understand this narrative.
As usual, if you guys wanna comment or add anything or ask anything or whatever it is, please do! Let's give soul to this fandom and interact with each other, yeah?
In the meantime...
All the love! 💜💜💜

Either the LA is making me depressed or I'm either being a whiny bitch. Anyhoo, on with my "review" of the fourth episode.
• Oh Zuko, my precious, you're not supposed to pull a dagger out of someone!!!
• You know those people who complain how Zuko was "more of a main character" and more "developed" than Aang? I think they had a vision of this show somehow.
• Let's be unbiased let's be unbiased let's be unbias- OH MY FUCKING GOD THEY TOOK THE KATAANG OUT OF CAVE OF TWO LOVERS AFSFSJKSSK REEEEEEEE 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 Just.. I'mma kms idc
• That scene with uncle iroh talking to the guard was lovely. I'd love to see that. Just... amazing.
• I LOVED the fact that they gave us water sibling content, since I am always searching for that, and I often find myself on character ai to make it myself.
• That being said... NOT WHEN IT COMES AT THE COST OF MUH KATAANG 😭
• They don't care about their protagonist, do they?
• I've said it before and I'll say it again, Aang's character seems HEAVILY INCONSISTENT. It's like they are trying to balance their whole "Aang's a responsible and serious guy" and the og "Aang's scared of taking responsibility" and FAILING at it.
• Like Aang was literally like, "Bumi let me out of here I don't have time for this shit I need to go save the North Pole." And two scenes later it was like, "Oh yeah Aang would rather goof off." Like... What?
• They made Oma and Shu lesbians. I don't know why but that made me laugh for no reason cuz it was so random.
• The hippies' songs were bangers. They need to drop an album.
• I like the concept of the badgermoles sensing love. And the love message being literal. Though in my heart I'm like "no the og idea was better" but that's most probably just my biases.
• Again, it's just lacking in our main trio's friendship. And I said it in my previous post their friendship was one of the main things that attracted me to this series. So far Aang hasn't had a deep and meaningful moment with the siblings.
• Okay maybe you can count the first episode where they go to that abandoned ship.
• I know I've said it so many times now but I don't.. feel like the writers really care about Aang? Idk.
• That being said, as usual, Zuko, Iroh, and Sokka were the higlights. Katara was nice in this ep too.

okay so... give us the list of folk horror films that are good please. 🤲
ok this took a while but here we go! it ended up being more than 10 lol
the wicker man (1973) - the definitive british folk horror film. midsommar wants to be the wicker man soooo bad it's embarrassing
the blood on satan's claw (1971) - i haven't seen this one in a long time but it's a pretty chilling early 70s british film centring around a demonic cult in 18th century england
night of the demon (1957) - ok so you know the sample at the beginning of hounds of love by kate bush, where a voice says "it's in the trees! it's coming!" that's from this film!!!! just barely in the folk horror category but it's based on a story by m.r. james who is one of THE iconic folk horror writers so imo it counts
a warning to the curious (1972) - also based on a story by m.r. james, this was part of a long-running annual bbc series called 'a ghost story for christmas'. it's only about 30 minutes long and very dated but I think that gives it extra charm and even a bit of extra creepiness
the juniper tree (1990) - icelandic retelling of the grimm's fairy tale, starring björk and featuring an incredibly beautiful soundtrack
the company of wolves (1984) - based on the short stories of angela carter in her compilation 'the bloody chamber'. this is probably more fairytale horror than folk horror but i LOVE this film and if you like intense psychosexual overtones and incredible practical effects then you will too
the devil rides out (1968) - classic hammer horror with christopher lee so you know it's gonna be a banger
wake wood (2009) - probably the most underrated irish horror film of all time (and that's saying a lot bc there really aren't many). really scary film with the "came back but wrong" premise. watch this one
the hallow (2013) - another one from ireland. it's not amazing but including it bc i don't think i've ever seen another horror film fully embrace the idea that faeries are actually terrifying. practical effects are also cool as hell
kill list (2011) - i'll be honest with you I didn't understand half of what was happening in this film and it's been on my to-rewatch list for ages. it starts out as a cerebral cop drama and descends into absolute madness like it literally has to be seen to be believed
a field in england (2013) - probably the modern folk horror film that comes closest to what british directors were doing with the genre in the 70s. it's trippy, impenetrable and often kinda funny, i really recommend this one
pyewacket (2017) - offbeat canadian indie film that you will either find really creepy or really boring. i thought the ending in particular was incredibly chilling
the ritual (2017) - i feel like everyone has seen this film at this point but i had to recommend it anyway bc it blends folk horror with monster movie and it's super fucking terrifying. i also highly recommend the novel by adam neville which if anything is even scarier
the witch (2015) - again everyone has seen this and has an opinion but it's one of my favourite horror films of all time
pet sematary (1989) - the iconic stephen king classic that is still really scary to this day
pumpkinhead (1988) - another film that is super underrated imo. people who love the creature design in the ritual should remember the OG
men (2022) - controversial opinion perhaps but i think this film was actually kinda brilliant. if nothing else it is super twisted and horrifying
on my list of i haven't watched this yet but people say it's really good: penda's fen (1974), witchfinder general (1968), the lair of the white worm (1988) (i know i know i call myself a ken russell fan and i haven't even seen lair of the white worm)
a radio play: children of the stones on bbc radio 4 (available on spotify hee hee)
and a couple of books: fairy tale (1996) by alice thomas ellis, and the owl service (1967) by alan garner. the owl service is for kids but it really did a number on me aged 12 and it still holds up as a classic. I think there's an old bbc series but i haven't got round to watching it yet :)

okay, so ive gotten back into reading books in the past week, after like 8 years where i read pretty much nothing except for like one series. back when i last read, i still thought i was a guy. the reason i bring this up is because boy are there few books about women. im pretty much no longer interested in male protagonists, and its really, really frustrating how few books there are that focus on adult women in a non-romantic context. or, god forbid, in similar roles to main characters like your run-of-the-mill fantasy protagonist. and thats just single issues, goodbye to the idea of finding large, epic fantasy series the likes of the stormlight archive or something similar. or, something written by a female author. i love you derek landy, but come on.
so, please send me asks if you know something good, because ive been browsing bookstores online and offline like crazy for like a year and my findings so far are not great. ill also give my own recommendations if anyone asks, but theyre mostly german books, and i dont know if there are translations.
rant over.
edit: like seriously, what ive found on my own, ignoring skulduggery pleasant, doesnt fill a shelf. please help me.
on that note though, the one series i found is about a squad of mercenaries in a reasonably gritty setting, who used to be princesses and who just fuck shit up. it doesnt really have an epic main plot either, but its good for what it is and just innovative in what it does. and remarkable for the simple fact that its about mostly women, and includes tons of queerness along with campy fantasy/dnd tropes. its not currently available in english, but i really hope it will be, because its great as a premise and enjoyable to read, and if the execution improves somewhat in future volumes, will be an absolute banger. the mercenaries are all really likeable and you learn a ton about them, all its lacking is really a good main storyline. the name of the series is, helpfully, the princesses. by christian endres.

Summer Reading/Writing/Arting Tag
I was tagged by @blossom-adventures for this tag game, so thank you.
I’ve been having fun with these, so if anyone see this and wants to do it, feel free to answer and blame it on me >:)
1) Describe one creative WIP project you’re planning to work on over the summer. Imma say screw the rules on this one and share a few. Obviously the biggest one is my long Ardyn x Reader fic A Dream Come True, which I have slowly been working on. Once summer hits I’ll be able to dedicate a lot more time to it (and other projects). I also have another long Ardyn x Reader fic idea that I’ve been drafting, so I’ll be writing that once ADCT is done. I have an Ardyn x Reader one shot I’m working on, but hopefully that’s finished before summer. Aside from Ardyn, I have some Ruben/Ruvik x Reader fics kicking around, a one-shot and a long fic. I plan to tease the long fic at some point soon.
2) Recommend a book. I’ll go ahead and do a series of books, The Belgariad and The Malloreon by David Eddings (which is one book series split into two halves). If you like fantasy settings, this is a must read, it is absolutely spectacular. The best series of books I have ever read, and I would be willing to argue some of the best books ever written.
3) Recommend a fic. YO, ARDYN PEEPS, YALL REALLY SLEEPIN ON IMMORTAL SHIELD AND IT IS A CRIME. GO READ IT. GO READ IT RIGHT NOW. It’s Ardyn x OC but it’s so fucking good it’s worth it, even if OCs aren’t your thing. This is coming from someone who usually doesn’t like OCs too, so you know it’s good 😉
4) Recommend music. Rose Colored Lenses by Unlike Pluto is a great song, I’ve been listening to it a lot lately. It feels very surreal and existential to me for some reason, I like it a lot. The album has some other bangers too, so if you like it, you should check ‘em out.
5) Share one piece of advice. Practice, practice, practice. That is how you get good at everything. Writing, drawing, cooking, whatever your hobbies are, practice is the best path to improvement. Your first attempts/drafts might suck, and that’s okay. Give yourself some grace to grow and learn.

DMC Questions Anon here!
Before you read this next question:
I was informed that it would be a good idea for my questions to be answered with a specific tag so if people wish to block it they could. Please tag your answers to any question I send you with "dmc questions anon" and I think that should work.
If you wish to be taken off the list, ask. If somebody wishes to be placed on the list, ask. If your anon asks are off and you wish to participate, just make a post answering the question you see going around.
Remember you do not have to answer every question, so please don't feel pressured to do so.
Please also remember to take as long as you need! Do not rush yourself, this is supposed to be a fun activity and I don't want anyone to feel stressed out by trying to rush to answer questions.
Now onto the actual question:
How would you rank the 5 games in the Devil May Cry series? (By story)
Separately, if you want, how would you rank extended material? (The DMC1 Novel, The DMC3 Mangas, The Anime, The DMC2 Novel, Deadly Fortune, Before the Nightmare, and Visions of V, all of which can be found (along with other stuff) here: https://originaldmc.github.io/DivinityStatue/Downloads.html)
If you wish, how would you rank all of it together in one big list?
Omg hiii anon!!!!
I’m gonna be honest and say I haven’t made my way through all the dmc side content yet, I’ve only managed to read Visions of V so I guess I have to rank that number one. Ive also watched some of the anime, but not enough to really give it a firm rank. I’ve been kinda busy lately so I just haven’t had the time to finish reading all the novels
And onto the games!!!!!!
Number 5:Dead last
Devil May Cry 2. Okay yeah this should not be a surprise. DMC2 failed in pretty much every category when it comes to games. The story is just mind numbingly boring. Let’s move on
Number 4:Pretty Eh but doesn’t really hold up well with the later entries
Devil May Cry 1. Someone on Reddit said this the best but when you compare it to later entries DMC1 kinda feels like filler. I am all for a DMC1 remake of it means giving Mundus a much more satisfying ass whooping (and more screen time for Trish!!!! She deadass isn’t there for half the game!!!! I literally forgot she existed in that game halfway through!!!!)
Number 3:Concepts were great but man they missed some potential
Devil May Cry 4. The concepts of a religious cult ruling and island and creating angels from the power of demons rules. And putting us in a position where Dante was the “bad guy” was actually really cool. But half of the game is just backtracking as Dante which puts the story on hold. The scrapped concepts for DMC4 were so cool and so should’ve been included man :((
Number 2:Overcoming your daddy issues
Devil May Cry 3. Dante and Lady both had amazing arcs throughout this game. With Dante accepting his repressed past and demon side and proudly claiming himself as son of Sparda who harbours his soul. It’s enough to make a grown man cry. And Lady’s arc of learning that not all demons are evil, and finally being able to extract revenge on her father. And who can forget that famous “even a devil May cry when he looses someone he loves” line. And I ain’t gonna pretend Vergil wasn’t a banger part of this game’s story cause he was a banger part of this game’s story. A man who seeks power to the point of self-destruction. Who is just as fucked up as Dante but refuses to let himself feel those emotions, and instead filling the blanks with raw strength. And the post credits scene with Mundus…..biting and chewing and killing……ough the post credits scene with Mundus…..
Number 1:That’s intergenerational trauma babyyyy
Devil May Cry 5. As much as I mald and seethe about how dirty Lady and Trish were done in DMC5 I truly do fucking love DMC5. Watching Vergil finally gain the capability to express his emotions and be able to reconcile with his past and his trauma and work for a better future got me wailing and weeping. Watching Nero be able to prove that yes, he is powerful and capable as a devil hunter got me weeping and wailing. Seeing Dante and Vergil finally being able to reconstruct their sibling bond after so many years and keep their sibling rivalry on less violent terms got me weeping and wailing. Everything about V got me wailing and weeping. Nico was such a good addition to this franchise with her personality and how she bounces off the others with her snarky little remarks and was a good source of comedy relief during rough times. The passing of the torch moment was honestly so powerful and I’m actually really looking forward to seeing how Nero can carry on that torch through the series. And the references to the DMC anime in the forms of Patty and Morrison were really neat too.

curious what lemon eyes is for the wip game! ^.^
Tumblr media
Ahh you've found a music-inspired fic!! This one is a fem!Laiden one-shot based on the music (not the video, though it is great) for Meg Myers' Lemon Eyes. I highly recommend the song, because not only is it a banger with a killer baseline, it makes the inspiration for this make much more sense. And Myers is gorgeous. All the italics sections are lyrics and everything after the ~~ is an outline, just to make it all make sense.
For @yolki-palki and @whyzowl as well as my anons. Lemon Eyes for everybody, I hope you enjoy!!
Summary: Aiden is a green-eyed monster and one bitter baby wolf is going to be hers, no matter how much conniving it takes. She’s maybe a little bit obsessed.
You're so bitter, bitter, bitter, yellow
Settle, settle, got to settle down okay
In retrospect, Aiden should have known that chasing after Lambert was going to be something entirely different from every other hunt. As far as she’s experienced, there isn’t a being alive that wants to be left alone more than the beautiful, vulgar wolf does, and definitely none that pull out such a variety of defenses. Animals? They’re simple, really. They run, they strike, they hide, but none of them can outpace her. Monsters are the same, with longer claws and bigger teeth. Humans think they’re different, but all they can do when faced with something like Aiden is put other humans in between them and their death. It never works, of course. They fall on her blades like all the rest, choking on their own blood.
Lambert is something else entirely.
For one, Aiden very much wants to take her alive. Even imagining the pretty wolf’s life snuffed out makes her heart clench, and the idea of that precious, sweet blood on her hands damn near makes it give out entirely.  For another, Lambert is miles more creative than any beast. She’s tried to drive Aiden away with a million tactics, each more clever and enticing than the last —it’s the only thing Lambert hasn’t quite figured out, if the continued attempts are any indication. Every single fucking thing the wolf does makes Aiden want her.
She remembers the swearing came first. All through their fight with the ogre and through getting a reward from that stingy-ass alderman. Lambert insulted everything around her in languages Aiden barely even recognized, with phrases long enough to fill every gap between her breaths as she cut the big, ugly bastard to pieces. And then she’d turned her vicious tongue on Aiden, and she’d been sold.
Then came the ice wall. Probably some Wolf tactic, knowing what she knew about the stiff witchers from Guxart’s tales, but Lambert wasn’t very good at it. The pretty wolf had every skill in the book except for silence, and thank the gods for it. It slipped ever so nicely into the second round of verbal assaults and series of increasingly convoluted abandonments.
Aiden almost laughed at the irony, three weeks before, at the next phase: Lambert trying to pay an imaginary debt. As if money was the only reason Aiden stuck around, as if every treat and trinket she bought, made, or stole had a price attached. Lambert tried to pay her in coin, in equivalent returns, and she’d refused them until the clever wolf tried to pay it on her back. Aiden is many things, but she’s not good enough to pass it up when Lambert spreads her pale thighs so prettily and invites her between them. It’s quickly become her favorite pastime, especially when Lambert starts melting into it.
~gratuitous sex scene where Lambert brats to an extraordinary degree until Aiden turns her into a literal puddle of goop~
Listen, listen, you listen, yellow
It's a killer, a killer, a killer, jealousy
Aiden and Lambert continue to travel together somewhat begrudgingly, as Aiden keeps trying to get closer to this fascinating wolf witcher. They keep fucking and it keeps being amazing, but Lambert treats it like any other fuck —a matter of convenience— while Aiden is falling deeper and deeper into love (and a little obsession). It all comes to a head when she watches a whore flirting with Lambert, and Lambert takes her up on the offer. Needless to say, Aiden is pissed. She proposes a three way. The whore (whose name is actually Julia) has the strangest fuck of her life, because yeah, the pussy is A1 and STD-free, but two witchers just fucked each other through her for like, an hour.
I bet you wanna walk away, run away, look away, turn away
Shit gets real weird. Lambert keeps turning Aiden down —not just for sex, but everything else. She eats by herself, gets her own room in towns, takes contracts alone, and it’s driving Aiden insane because she was so close to getting her baby wolf right where she wanted her. So Lambert is running, and Aiden keeps chasing, and they have a big nasty fight bc Aiden will not leave Lambert alone. Lambert probably brings out her weapons and tries to cut Aiden out of her life for real.
Honey you can't hide
They……… kiss and make up. Tearful, bloody, in-the-woods fucking. Idk, I’ll figure it out.
Lemon eyes, all mine

ok here we go again spoilers under the cut
starting off with a banger i read The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. holy shit it was awesome. audiobook 10/10 narrator did a phenomenal job. there were some characters that confused me, where there were a couple names for the same person and i thought they were different people, and the opposite maybe im still not quite sure.... mainly with the queen of yscalin i believe? again not 100% sure but it didn't take away from the story at all. i did really like most if not all of the characters, they were all well fleshed out in my opinion. super interested in the prequel, my favorite thing ever ever ever in stories is like. well theres the story but what happened before years ago or even centuries ago is still there. she's haunting the narrative. she's present in every timeline there was no other ending to this story etc. etc. loved it excited to get my hands on the other one and maybe also try some of shannons other books? i heard about another series but it looked a lil confusing to get into but either way i will read it. trust
after that i read Yellowface by R. F. Kuang ! not my favorite of hers bc i am more of a fantasy/sci fi/historical fiction girlie rather than lit fic but there were parts of this that did make me laugh ! its been a while but i do remember the part where the mc talks about liking eminem or something in the beginning and thinking ok yeah she's got the character down good. like yeah. anyways i do see how it's a bit on the nose and some of it seems a little out there and cartoonishly evil. and i can definitely see how a lot of the characters mirror real life people, mainly athena/rebecca. and how a lot of the criticisms towards athena are criticisms r.f. kuang has gotten/gets in the past and does she kinda just write them off as haterisms. yeah. like thats a little funny sure queen. and while yes i dooooo think that its a bit over the top some times..... having seen all of the asian phishing and race faking and pretending to be someone ur not on twitter to get published irl these past few MOnths. like in 2024 ONLY. i do think Sometimes the obviousness is necessary !. like some of you bitches did NAWT get the message. anyways the book was pretty good not my personal favorite as its just not the type of story i typically read but i will continue to read Kuang's work ! it was fun it was silly i got to laugh at a racist white woman.... and i do think it was nice how a tiny little bit of sympathy would come up for the mc in the book and then just immediately be squandered by the next stupid thing she did like it was funny. like damn okay you watched a sorta friend acquaintance die thats traumatic. oh well you stole her entire manuscript okay nevermind. oh something bad happened to you in the past that sucks for you /gen sorry. oh okay no ur using it to fuel ur racist ideas and beliefs and how nothing is actually ur fault okay man yeah i dont feel bad anymore. like it was just kinda funny how every little chance she got to do better she absolutely squashed it. astronomically. and okay last thing i think but i do like in the acknowledgements Kuang said that a lot of this book is a horror story about loneliness in an isolating industry. and thats not a direct quote but i think its the jist and yeah like. so many problems the mc had could have been solved by having real friends that cared about her and her writing and supported her when she needed it, so she didn't go and blame every other person (and minority) in her vicinity on her problems. and people to hold her accountable when she did wrong. all of the people around her were basically just yes men (when she was making them money) and so nobody checked her when she was being a fucking idiot and a racist. so like. yeah i do see how it's a horror story about loneliness, and i like that outlook on the story. it is also primarily a silly ass look into a racist white woman's brain. like okay i can see how you got to this conclusion, if everything else you have ever thought and known and been taught was wrong. like its yeah a little funny. okay i need to stop on this one i am just saying words at this point like it does need to stop. recommend as a quick read if you wanna see how a lot of racist people in the publishing industry operate. (side note that part was interesting reading about the publishing industry like taking away the racism from the mc it was interesting to see the other characters and how they operate) okay done.
NEXT i read Ghost Music by An Yu. interesting, the mushrooms were throwing me a bit and like. i do see how there is a connection between the mushrooms and the mother and her hometown and her son but its been a bit long since i read this so i do not know what the connection is yet. and what exactly this connection is trying to say. i think if i reread it i would understand more but i'm not much of a rereader and i don't think im interested enough in this book to try. dont get me wrong it was good !! i just wasn't in the correct headspace to really take it all in when i read it. the story was fun, i liked most of the characters. tbh it is very short so i feel like i didn't sit with it long enough. i also dont understand the talking mushroom. but like the vibes were there.
ALMOST THERE !!!!! i read ough okay A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal ! so. i liked it thats for sure. the characters were fun and cute i particularly liked the relationship between Jin and Flick...... they were cute. i do think as i've grown out of YA and into adult books, my standards for YA have gotten lower and lower lol. like i have high standards for my adult novels because thats what i primarily read now, but going into YA i'm looking for maybe a more specific type of vibe and less like. i don't need the highest quality ever bc i have high quality in adult books now. if you get what i mean? so like no i don't think this was Faizal's best work we hunt the flame you will always be that girl to me. BUT. i read this for the vibes and the tea and the heist and not much else. my expectations were low -that the other thing i think a lot of people came into this book with super high expectations- and i had a really good time ! i am definitely interested in the sequel- i think a lot actually maybe not a lot but some of the moments in the book were specifically written to idk maybe go viral ? like some of the dialogue and scenes i could just tell some editor or publisher really wanted to highlight it. did i see a lot of the plot twists coming. yeah. did that make it less interesting....... not really? Could it have been better. yes absolutely i think theres always room for improvement especially in YA when a lot of things are more cookie cutter. BUT. this was still fun. and i liked how the worlds are connected, arawiya is present ! although. okay. am i stupid because Laith was making references to shit i feel like i should remember but i don't.... like yes arawiya was freed by the king yes i know vaguely.... but yeah. idk. I WILL READ THE SECOND ONE !!!!!! love how this post is just me trying to remind myself to read more books lol.
NEXT i read The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow. fun book ! not much to say about it tbh i did like the vibes, don't remember the ending at all so overall i don't think this one like. really made me think or emote or whatever. i do think that the dual kinda. stories were cool i liked reading both, which is rare for me usually theres one that i like a lot more than the other. the world was cool. i had fun. i would recommend as a shorter little fantasy book....
Tread of Angels by Rebecca Roanhorse... meh. I kinda went into this knowing absolutely nothing I SEE THE VISION. god i see the vision so hard but i really think Roanhorse shines when she has a larger page number and more room to really flesh out her ideas. like because the vibe was there, it wasn't like. Present but i could get just a little taste of it and god it would have gone so hard as a fully fledged story i feel like. this one, tho, fell way flat. i did NAWT care about any of the characters at all. like the mc and her sister. were just both not great people and like neither were the rest of them and i think that was the point but like even when characters are bad you kinda wanna have to root for them at some point. and i just did not at all. Sad !. well theres other stories.
okay. last one. i finally did it after so many people raving about it and one of my friends basically forcing it on me. i read The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemison. and well like i get it. LIKE OKAYYYY I FUCKING GET IT THIS BOOK WAS AWESOME. apparently the author is on tumblr and does look for fanart so like if u see this hai :3. really really fucking good. it took me one or two tries to get into it, first with just the book, second with just the audiobook, and once i had time to sit down and read them together it was like. just flew by. i tried to pace myself but hooo boy. did i see it coming how all the characters were actually one character yes. because well i had heard how everything was connected before and well the dots came together pretty quickly. did not take away from the story at all though! if anything it made me want to read more to see when and how it all came together !! 1000000000% recommend to anyone who likes fantasy (look up trigger warnings!). the characters OUGH. the worldbuilding OUGH. that last line like OUGH. the little interludes like explaining some stuff about the world OUGH. like okay when it was talking about how yknow. how will people know whats missing when they've never had it before? like they have the stars the planets the sun and i was like well Moon? any Moons queen? and then forgot about it until the very end like OKAY YEAH THE MOON. having a moon well it does control tides and things like that. so it being missing could have a large affect on the seasons. and well yeah. also. dude the whole premise of like having to go on what u think is a stupid ass assignment with some guy you don't like but are contractually obligated to have sex with. well its fucked up first of all. but also just a little bit funny like. the mc will just be describing her day and then just "yeah and when we set up camp for the night me and this stupid ass man i hate had sex it was really bad and then we went to bed" its just a little funny like man. yeah. the polyamory was cute !!!!!!! those little moments of bliss and then it switches to a different pov and ur like god how did it go so wrong. damn. okay last thing because well this is getting long. but god there was a post i think i reblogged it but comparing two passages, one of Alabaster saying he would destroy the world for his little family, and the other from the very beginning of the story where he breaks the world and that just. is so. OUGH TO ME LIKE FAWWWWK this book is kindof making me insane and also to that point of the part in the beginning where Alabaster is breaking The Stillness well that part in the audiobook. god the narrator did such a good job that will stick in my mind forever i think. just they way they said it OUGH. fucked me up. anyways thats all if u read all this good job happy reading.

dts s3 e9-10
e9: -bahrain is such a beautiful track btw i love her -damn they just jump straight into it boom explosion -before logan was the sad wet lil meow meow......2020 alex was the ORIGINAL -the way reporters are asking abt checo->red bull before he even won that race, makes me curious how much he was seriously in the conversation for the seat beforehand. anyone who was on tumblr at the time i'd love to hear what the gossip mills were like at the time 👀 -dany's "please tell me he's okay" always GETS me bc i know dany's the car he crashed with and it was 100% a racing incident but i cannot imagine the guilt he was feeling in the moment. i'm so fond of him he definitely deserved better by the red bull machine -gunther talking about how fire is the worst thing you can have in a crash--and thinking about how guanyu said his biggest fear in his silverstone crash was the car catching fire. we're really lucky that his car didnt honestly -the music design on this in INCREDIBLE like they really did an INSANE job here. cacos "thats an act of god" always gets me. really summarizes how improbably lucky he was to survive that. i'm so glad he did -gunther sucks but the way he insists he has to meet the rescue guys to thank them personally 😭😭 -ALBODIUM MY BELOVED (when will she return) -i didnt write anything down for the grosjean post crash self reflection bit. i just wanted to sit and experience it and not think :) -one can say this sakhir crash was the original checo third wheeling lestappen -when ppl ask how to get into f1, i always bring up the inside story series on youtube, and TOP of recommendations is the inside story on this race! it is truly insane what he did here, cant wait to see this race in full -i just think it wouldve been SO iconic if george had won this race. first ever mercedes race win before he even got a mercedes seat? wouldive been ICONIC. ppl talk abt the domino affect of alex's appendicitis but if mercedes didnt fuck up BOTH their drivers pit stops, checo wouldn't have won (probably), would he have been signed then? new butterfly affect to discuss -I THINK. i know the idea of checo leaving the sport soon is being discussed a lot, and even in this episode he discusses that if its the end for him he is proud of what hes accomplished and thankful for as long as he had to drive in f1. his red bull seat really was a lifeline, a second chance, and he has added to his legacy significantly with red bull. if he loses his seat on 2024, no matter what mean things i've said about him in the heat of the moment, he has a LOT to be proud of. if its his time to go, its his time to go
ep 10: -i think AD is a BANGER of a race track. i'm glad its the finale race -ok so lets see daniel gives renault their first podium in 9 years......then gives mclaren their first win in forever as well.....hmmmm.....washed up who? -cyril getting a tattoo youtube video is So Important 2 ME. cyril calling his wife to tell her the details while daniel dies silent laughing is the instant seratonin boost for me -every time zak & lando have a lil clearly staged chat it has the most sugar baby energy ever why do they do this -lando says so many nice things abt daniel here yet the dando antis choose to ignore them and insist lando does nothing but distrespect him 😡 anti-lando daniel girlies r my least favorite -NOT DANIEL HITTING THE BEAM ABOVE HIM IN THE GARAGE TOO the dando agenda continues -damn i hope they give this much dts attention to the battle for 7th last year too -lawrence rly hired seb to mentor his son huh -aston martin colors Do Fuck we all must admit -frothing at the mouth over the 4433 moment here. its mental illness innit -i've always felt. like the lewis racism segment was a bit shoehorned in here. like they went oh fuck we need to include this somewhere lets just slap it on the end of the episode. i think it would've been so much better and more impactful in a fully lewis focused episode. but ya kno? i'd rather they do it this way than not at all, so i suppose i shouldn't complain too much

FILMS
·:* RATING: ALL FUN AND GAMES
SNATCH (2000) - dir. guy ritchie
this is my feel-good film, whenever i'm feeling down i put this on and i'm fixed! this is exactly my type of humor and it just never gets old (i've seen it like ten times)
INDIANA JONES (1981 & 1984 & 1989) - dir. steven spielberg
don't you just love it when the main character is a bit of a loser? well, i definitely do. he's getting hit, he's fucking tired he just wants to nap but there are snakes and screaming companions and everyone is so greedy and he just wants to be a nerd and keep the artifacts safe:( please take a note of how fucking good the lighting is in these films goddddd they seriously don't make them like this anymore.
TRIANGLE OF SADNESS (2022) - dir. ruben stlund
absolutely fucking ridiculous i literally cried from laughing in the theather and trust! i was not the only one
SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE (2018) - dir. peter ramsay, rodney rothman, bob persichetti
c'mon. C'MON. you have heard that it's good but you haven't watched it bc they're probably lying, right? they are not, i promise. it's soooooooo good. the animation, the voice acting???? the friendships, the action, the soundtrack - i wasn't the same after watching it and i'm so grateful
THE FABLEMANS (2022) - dir. steven spielberg
i laughed. i cried. me and my friend and then an elderly couple were laughing outloud in the cinema during this it was very wholesome i loved it.
SMOKE SAUNA SISTERHOOD (2023) - dir. anna hints
"in the darkness of a smoke sauna, women share their innermost secrets and intimate experiences, washing off the shame trapped in their bodies and regaining their strength through a sense of communion." took the description right off the page but i couldn't have said it better; i cried while watching it, it reminded my of my grandma and how much i miss her i loved it a lot
OCEAN'S ELEVEN (2001) - dir. steven soderbergh
SO GOOD SO SMOOTH?? so satisfying to watch george clooney my charismatic king i love u so
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN (2003 & 2006) - dir. gore verbinski
okay look! these are very important to me! they raised me they changed me! i actually might be jack sparrow; no but seriously, the score the characters the story the tropes elizabeth swann overall elizabeth swann dressing up as a man elizabeth swann being called 'the pirate king' the fun action the wheel fight the VILLAINS OH MY GOD BARBOSSA AND DAVY JONES ARE INSANE THEY DON'T MAKE CHARACTERS LIKE THEM ANYMORE i could talk about these silly movies for hours
(note! i do not fucking support j***** d*** though! that man can go kill himself amber heard i love u you u did absolutely nothing wrong!)
WHITE CHICKS (2004) - dir. keenen ivory wayans
hey. it's okay. you don't only have to like oscar-winning films, okay. nobody will judge you. it's okay. this movie is a banger and it makes me laugh every time. literally so funny.
EMMA (2019) - dir. autumn de wilde

THE PRINCESS BRIDE (1987) - dir. rob reiner
i only saw this like a month ago and i have to admit that i've been missing out IT'S SO FUNNY?????? it's fucking ridiculous "there's a shortage of perfectly beautiful breasts in this world it would be a pity to damage your"??????????????? ten out of ten for that already + the link is a clip from the film and not a trailer
·:* RATING: ACTION, BLOOD, VIOLENCE AND JOKES
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS (2009) - dir. quentin tarantino
very rewatchable, i know every single line in it i think...... rather violent so beware but then again it's quentin tarantino
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD (2015) - dir. george miller
an important fun fact! the director of this film asked his wife to edit the action sequences (she had no experience editing action films) and the reasoning behind it was "because if a guy did it, it would look like every other action movie." (it won an academy award for 'best editing' btw)
ATOMIC BLONDE (2017) - dir. david leitch
i think it's great how the mc fights with using her surroundings, and it's gritty - she gets hit and hit hard but she can't stop she has a job to do. great action scenes, no unnecessary cutting and they show everything + charlize theron did most of her stunts. and as always the soundtrack is so sexy, oh and btw it's gay!!!!
THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. (2015) - dir. guy ritchie
now, i do realize armie the cannibal is here but i might be biased bc i looooove the soundtrack and the director and the humor of it and the action of it and the tropes in it and okay i'm just gonna say that i love this movie ok
BODIES, BODIES, BODIES (2022) - dir. halina reijn
another really fucking funny one, it's very meta but it's not annoying
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: FALLOUT (2018) - dir. christopher mcquarrie
when i say i like action movies i mean it!!!!! this has the cleanest fights in every possible term - they're shot clearly, you can see all of their moves and the fight choreographies are good, they flow very well + it's always good to see the mc's take hits and ethan gets his shit rocked a nice couple of times!! another plus is to know that the actors are dedicated to their films and they take the extra step to do as many of their stunts as possible, it's so cool!!!!
DON'T BREATHE (2016) - dir. fede alvarez
actually made me feel like i had to hold my breath with the characters on screen. definitely scared me and that's a good thing!!!!
JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 (2023) - dir. chad stalhelski
this is rated 5+ by my friend who does not watch action. like at all. and she fucking loved it. we (and the whole room) were literally laughing and gasping during the whole thing it's so entertaining. the action is mmmmmmmmmm giving me a boner honestly. this is what u get when the director himself is a stuntman and your lead is doing the majority of his stunts. they're so invested and it fucking shows
DJANGO UNCHAINED (2012) - dir. quentin tarantino
blood. very blood. very red. u have been warned. tarantino's dialogue is so mwah he's on some next level shit. i know everybody is always talking about christoph waltz in this but JAMIE FOXX IN THIS????? HE'S LITERALLY THE GUY. HE'S DJANGO. HE'S THE WHOLE FILM. AND THE OUTFIT?????? FUUUUCK HE'S SOOOOO GOOOD AAAAA I LIKE THE WAY U DIE BOY
READY OR NOT (2019) - dir. matt bettinelli-olpin & tyler gillett
SO FUN. AND BLOODY. YAY.
·:* RATING: INTERMEDIATE
UNCUT GEMS (2019) - dir. safdie brothers
adam sandler nation rise up!! the man is actually good just trust me on this! very very exhilarating and fast and intense and yeah i was getting so anxious during it it's great
PARASITE (2019) - dir. bong joon-ho
best picture winner for a fucking reason!! bong joon-ho is on a completely different level. the way it's shot????? ohh i feel all warm and fuzzy just by thinking about it. the dialogue the story itself?????? mmmmmm please watch it you'll never be the same (in a good way)
THE FAVOURITE (2019) - dir. yorgos lanthimos
oh yeah gay as hell everybody go watch it. saw in the cinema four times in a month. it's fucking great. + here is olivia colman's best actress speech bc it's great
ARRIVAL (2016) - dir. denis villeneuve
insane. hypnotic. braingasm. the sound design people were on something bc holy shit i just came?? anyway i've heard people say that they didn't understand it the first time but you know what - it's totally fine if you don't understand it the first time or even the second time or however many times u watch it u can watch it for the soundtrack and the visuals alone hehehe
THE WITCH (2015) - dir. robert eggers
very intense performances, overall very eerie and spooky.
DUNE (2021) - dir. denis villeneuve
godly sound design. like it's fucking crazy. rather slow paced but you will love it nonetheless. there's a lot of lore but it's interesting and it's not as hard (or too much) like i thought it'd be. plus there's an almost fully naked oscar isaac
ANATOMY OF A FALL (2023) - dir. justine triet
oscar worthy performances from everyone. unrequited love trope (i will love this tiny lawyer man myself sandra move aside)
DECISION TO LEAVE (2022) - dir. park whan-wook
very very unique. especially the how it was shot. came out of the cinema and thought about for the rest of the day, couldn't get it out of my head. i also loveddd the characters, the dynamic was so cool.
GOOD TIME (2017) - dir. safdie brothers
who doesn't love having a panic attack? this is what you'll get when u watch this :D it's good though i promise i promise
·:* RATING: FILMBRO 101
BLADE RUNNER 2049 (2017) - dir. denis villeneuve
what did i say about the loser main character? here's another one!! the visuals and the score is insane and not to mention the performances (especially sylvia hoeks who plays luv!!!!! she's terrifying in the best way)
SE7EN (1995) - dir. david fincher
tw: gory. if ur sensitive it might not be a good watch for u. the plot is so cool i'm so sad i couldn't see this in the cinema yk considering i wasn't even born yet smhh i would've loved to have the full experience of the climax.
THE DARK KNIGHT (2008) - dir. christopher nolan
very entertaining!! heath ledger is just... wow. and i know that has been said i'm not original but well it's just the truth. the way he plays the joker mmmmmmmmm scratches my brain fr. i like the part where he does the "disappearing pen" magic trick
THE WOLF OF WALL STREET (2013) - dir. martin scorsese
WHOOOOOWEEE BOYS!! coke and naked women and coke and money and some more money. it's great. after every watch i am CONVINCED that i also need to be doing that. every single time.
FIGHT CLUB (1999) - dir. david fincher
THE NARRATOR NATION RISE UP!!!!! WE ARE ALIVE AND WELL!!! MY BELOVED IKEA BOY!!!!
NIGHTCRAWLER (2014) - dir. dan gilroy
very thrilling! he's not a good guy why are u still watching? ok it's probably just jake gyllenhaal being a very good actor.... the mc is so fucking weird it's almost hypnotizing. also! this isn't a trailer just bc i didn't like the trailer so i put a link of one of the first scenes from the movie i think it gets its point across really fucking well
·:* RATING: SILLY LITTLE MOVIES (VERY EXTREME)
SALTBURN (2023) - dir. emerald fennell
this one is most defintely not for everyone but it's for me ok! very erotic and peculiar and i hadn't been this mesmerized in a minute i was leaning more and more toward my computer screen just because i needed to be in it
MOTHER! (2017) - dir. darren aronofsky
actually this is also one of those, hmm, weird ones, let's just say that. it's very very intense so a big trigger warning for that but there's nothing alike this movie. very one of a kind and you can decide for yourself whether that's a good or a bad thing.
THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER (2016) - dir. yorgos lanthimos
my very first yorgos lanthimos film and i was hooked from the very second the trailer started playing in the cinema, immediately knew it was gonna be a freakshow and i was not disappointed!! very wtf but so good
HEREDITARY (2018) - dir. ari aster
scary. idk what else to tell u. scary in a sense that you'll feel sick in your stomach. sound design goes crazy along with the soundtrack. amaaaazing performances from everyone toni collette the very first mother of all
REVENGE (2017) - dir. coralie fargeat
VERY GNARLY i think that's a good word for it (a tw for rape here bc that was a very hard watch) and later it's very bloody but i fucking loooved the ending the final chase around the house it felt very comical???? funny even though it's really not the moment for giggles
DIRECTORS
wasn't gonna put them here but i fucking will sue me
GUY RITCHIE - snatch, the man from u.n.c.l.e.; THE MOST LIKE ME ok it's the fast pacing, it's the quips it's the music it's the action it's the car chases it's the characters it's the dialogue it's the humor i think i'm repeating myself but i do genuinely think that his films have had such an impact on me and how i imagine things in my head lmao
DENIS VILLENEUVE - blade runner 2049, arrival, prisoners; rather slow paced but intense, it's all about the visuals, the soundtracks always slap
DAVID FINCHER - se7en, zodiac, gone girl; very dark and intense, also rather slow-paced
QUENTIN TARANTINO - inglourious basterds, pulp fiction, django unchained; now i realize that i'm coming off a real filmbro but it is what it is i love these movies with my heart they're very much my style my taste - blood and violence and good jokes

SERIES
MINDHUNTER (2017-2019)
oh my god, especially the first season!!!! i think i like it so much bc i love holden i don't think i've seen a character who i resonate with so much in a minute. he's so naive and so curious oh man i love this guy. and bill!!!!!!!!!! i know these people are based on the book (which i loved too btw!) and real life and well i hope these people are having a great time ok. i love holden's and bill's dynamic, how bill kind of lets him do his thing but is still lecturing him about it. while being very caring i love how soft-spoken he is most of the time??? and ahh the way it's shot wait wait also need to mention the whole ed kemper and holden dynamic too (this is also where i feel like me and holden are the same fucking person bc i would too believe everything that man says lmao)(i would too think that we're somewhat buddies) AND THE SOUNDTRACK GODDD THE SOUNDTRACK full of bangers anyway i really really love this show and i hope mr fincher will get his shit together and make the third season too
JUJUTSU KAISEN (2020-)
the animation IS INSANE, like i mentioned before i have a habit of leaning closer and closer to the screen when something is getting exciting and well if i wasn't wearing glasses before i would have to get them now bc i was almost inside the fucking screen ok, not for a second was i able to tear my eyes because so much was happening (in a good way)
TASKMASTER (2015- )
literally the funniest show i almost peed my pants (although i've been wondering how different is european humor - will people from everywhere else also find it hilarious idk you let me know)
my favourite seasons are 4 and 5 and 7!!
SUCCESSION (2018-2023)
sooo funny. so stupid. it's so fucking straightforward it catches you off guard all the time. the shit that comes out of their mouths? hilarious. they're all a bunch of losers and i love them for it. and i love tom.
MANIAC (2018)
life-changing honestly, the idea of it is so cool i was completely obsessed with it when i first saw it (and then i immediately watched it again)
LOVE, DEATH & ROBOTS (2019-)
the first episode i saw was 'sonnie's edge' and let me tell you, i've never been more enthralled!! it's the animation it's the blood it's the gore oh my god it's the horror of it!
season 1 - three robots, the witness, sucker of souls, beyond the aquila rift, helping hand, the secret war
season 2 - pop squad (hehe on a side note one of the greatest voice actors, nolan north, is in this), the tall grass, the drowned giant
season 3 - bad travellling (directed by david fincher btw)
AMERICAN HORROR STORY: HOTEL (2015)
this season specifically because - lady gaga, lady gaga as a vampire, lady gaga covered in blood, lady gaga in a suit, lady gaga with bleached eyebrows, angela bassett, angela bassett's arms, angela bassett's outfits, angela bassett and lady gaga kissing. enough said.
BLUE EYE SAMURAI (2023)
the animation!!!!!! i love when animation has fighting in it and this was just great. very good action scenes, very bloody and very brutal. PLUS such an amazing main character????? not your typical badass, oh no she definitely got her fucking ass beat all the time but she just kept going. actually shoutout to all of the side characters too they were all so good i loved them + my favourite episode of the season was ep4

i made this post watching wedding of river song but now that i've watched all of nuwho here's my assessment of all the finales lol
rtd1 era
bad wolf/parting of ways made me go into a temporary doctor who divorce where i went and watched a whole other show bc i knew if i jumped into ten's run immediately i would have hated him forever
doomsday gave me brain damage. literally no other way to describe it other than it gave me brain damage and i realized that the show could actually genuinely wreck me
utopia/sound of drums/last of the timelords is great! obviously raisin ten/jesus fairy ten in LOTTL is goofy but on the rewatch i can appreciate what's being done there. ten can be earth's savior but he still loses in the ways that matter to him in the end bc everybody leaves him and he can't even say he doesn't deserve that. martha is the real savior, the better doctor, and she's the one that walks away in the end in a better place. it's very good
i thought stolen earth/journey's end was slightly weak bc of the banger after banger of series 4 and how many self-serving cameos it had however upon returning i can appreciate the doctordonna brain damage above all else. i love u doctordonna forever
end of time made me cry so hard multiple times both of the times i watched it. worst episode ever i hate you rtd i hate you david tennant you will pay for your crimes
moffat era
i have an irrational anger towards pandorica opens/the big bang bc pandorica builds up so much to the doctor getting trapped in the Cube. and then he doesn't fucking get trapped. in the Cube. exclusively made for HIM. WHAT is AMY doing there. the last bit of the big bang re: amy bringing eleven back and eleven dancing at her wedding is v sweet though
i hated wedding of river song so much i made the original post
angels in manhattan is okay re: the tragedy, eleven's characterization however i don't like how amy has never really had a lot of agency throughout the story and her last decision is made exclusively to be w/ rory. the fact we're back to the "she has two choose between these two men in her life!!" of s5 is so. urgh
the 50th specials are so incredibly bad it's honestly impressive how much it feels specifically crafted for me to hate it
dark water/death in heaven... i love the setup and i love missy however when the show intentionally sets up clara/danny as "clara isn't actually super devoted to him she just loves the idea of having two lives she can control and getting what she wants" i don't really feel anything about them being together
hell bent can stay :)
i'm too angry at world enough and time/the doctor falls to judge them in any way that is close to fair
i hope twice upon a time explodes in a large fire
chibnall era
truly and honestly gun to my head i could not tell you anything about the plot of battle of ranskoor av kolos. it has completely left my mind. like a duck gliding on water
ascension of the cybermen/the timeless children is bad and i can see why ppl hated the timeless child retcon so much. the episodes are not amazing but dhawan!master slays so tremendously i love you babygirl
i could also not tell you anything about the plot of the vanquishers other than the fact flux started off mildly interesting to me and lost me completely as it went on
power of the doctor is mildly entertaining and i love u jodie i love u sacha but it is really sad—and i am speaking purely about my own emotional reaction to the episode—that the most exciting part to me was fourteen showing up. i'm so sorry guys
rtd2
the giggle gave me brain damage
rtd's finales are badly stacked conflicts that are suddenly solved by deus ex machina (but that doesn't matter bc it's filled with genuinely beautiful & heartwrenching character writing that will make you forget about everything) and moffat's finales are convoluted nonsense that make you confused as to what the fuck you're even watching. technically neither of these are good but between these two poisons i will pick the former every time

Encanto had many shortcomings, in large part due to as you say the ambition of complex ideas that don't have the time to be really explored, but it does hit me pretty well emotionally. A lot of people hate the abuela storyline, but I actually thought it was the best done because it had the most time to be complete, and Dos Oruguitas was just a really effective sequence
Yeah, I absolutely am there with why so many people find it moving and interesting, and I actually don't think it's bad by any stretch of the imagination, as far as kids' movies go. It has incredibly touching MOMENTS. I found the moment we see that Bruno has drawn his own little plate at his fake table so he can pretend he's eating with the family SO sad in a perfect way. But it really really tries to take on too much, and to me it a major failing that makes it fall below some of its peers.
It would have been a really brilliant 12 episode series or something like that, where it had time to go into Isabela's whole thing instead of she's a bitch->reason->solution and 66% of that takes place in 3 minutes. Or where we could really see that Dolores has feelings for Dude Whose Name I Could Not Be Bothered To Learn, and why, instead of a really rushed and confusing bit at the end. Or where Luisa's problem and solution aren't bound up in the same song. But mostly, BRUNO!! This is a thing that actually does stick in my craw a little bit. His sisters had...no feelings, about him being gone? Pepa really dislliked him that much for getting in her head? Abuela who asked him about all the stuff that made him leave was like, 'My son is missing and I do not acknowledge this as a terrible tragedy even though I am deeply DEEPLY (understandably) fucked up about my husband's death, still? I just don't talk about him.' Julieta, who we are pretty expressly shown to be Nice And Supportive? Never thought about him? I mean Pepa's a little petty, I can buy that if you sell, but Julieta? He hasn't even been GONE that long.
And I KNOW I'm going to get eaten alive for this! I know that! But it really needed more focus. It tried to juggle a lot of things and dropped a bunch of them, and that doesn't make it a horrible film for idiots or anything like that, but I do think it's not as solid as some of its contemporaries.
Which is why it surprises me that so many people apparently hate the abuela storyline! It's easily the one done to completion, its humanizing and tender, and more complex than I would have expected from a kids movie. I think its one of the places the movie absolutely soars! I would ask why, but I think I actually don't want to know ahah. I assume the answer is basically, "it's making an EXCUSE for someone who is MEAN to MIRABEL, someone I IDENTIFY with because I have ALWAYS been made to feel LESS SPECIAL in my family" and I'm like, "okay." I think the narrative that people with pain in their past can heal and learn to be better, and realize they are projecting on people around them, is a better lesson for kids. YMMV.
Anyway yes! It was a decent-to-good movie that could have been great but wanted to tell too many stories and had a few too many characters, but it has moments of supreme emotional effectiveness and a few banger songs. Love the abuela storyline, love Mirabel, actually love that there is not an animal sidekick!!

Alright!!! I'm gunna be saying some spoilers so beware that lol
Okay so if u don't wanna see em then you shoulda scrolled for you life by now so here I go!
Tumblr media
Alrighty, so Frontiers is AMAZING!!! Nearly everything about it felt so wonderful. Sonic himself just feels so good to control again. He has good weight while in the air and his running speed, even at level 1, feels controllable yet so wildly fun! They really nailed it with his movement, not to mention Air Tricks™️✌️ are back and are still rad as hell!
The story was also really fun to watch!!! Now Ian Flynn has a...questionable reputation on here but def not as negative to the previous writers and most, if not ALL scenes were an absolute joy to see, I had a goofy ass grin during nearly every part, the Eggmemos were perfect. Just perfect. Some parts kinda paled but the overall story was incredible to play through! Not to mention, just the character interactions were 👌.
Tumblr media
My only real gripes with the story are that we reaaaaally needed some more of Eggsy being a pops to Sage, not that what we have already is bad, but c'mon it woulda been perfect to see more! Also...ngl. The scene of Sage feeling sad when seeing Sonic and Tails that cuts to her memories 100% woulda benefitted if they were unique new cutscenes created for the sole purpose of this particular scene instead of just reusing the previous ones. Still great tho.
Tumblr media
As for the game itself, my gripes aren't entirely huge. Cyberspace Overall, isn't terrible, but the changed control/movement felt so stiff and restraining at times compared to the fluid and fun overworld controls, not to mention some of the time limits were a bit much but that's more of my own skill issue lol. It makes sense for the context of this game but I'm not sure if I'd like to see it return. Another gripe would be that post-game, not a whole lot to do other than battle some guys and fishing aka the best part. Also....no unlockable cosmetics....✊️😔...
Tumblr media
The music is just fucking flawless. As I'm writing all this down I've been listening to Undefeatable this past hour. I'm Here is my personal favorite and owd is my least fav of all of the songs but good god every song is a banger. I can't say much else cause they're all fucking bangers lmao
Tumblr media
Fishing stomps every other aspect of the game 100/10
Tumblr media
Okay....so the boss fights are FANTASTIC!!!! And yes while Supreme™️ isn't as unique compared to the previous ones and its basically just a slightly fancier version of Giganto, it still managed to be fun. Plus. C'mon. I'm Here alone managed to give it a good rep to me. This was all marvelous.....eeeexcept The End. Look the rail shooter minigame was neat on its own but This being the "reward" for playing on Hard Mode is an incredibly disappointing part of the game. The dialogue was cool ig but still. It feels nothing like a reward and just like a last second addition. Nonetheless that failure doesn't take away the pure enjoyment from every other boss!!! Super Sonic feels sublime that no matter which one, they're all an absolute treat!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So entirely, while no game shall ever be perfection (and this goes for every single game in existence let's be honest), this wasn't just a solid experience, not just an okay time, This was an Amazing game! A well deserved 9.5 outta 10!!! This is all my opinion of course but hey feel free to throw tomatoes at me if ya agree or disagree. Every aspect just felt fantastic, especially the cool combat system that just controls wonderful and innovative.
As for where the series heads from now on, no idea. Hopefully they do unlockable cosmetics next time. And confirm Sonic as bi. That's most of what I got to say this time!!! Have a great rest of the week and a good day everyone! ✌️!

Kinda fascinated by that trend in the 80′s and 90′s of taking movies and turning them into kids cartoons, whether the original movie was actually child-friendly or not.  So you wound up with stuff like:
The Real Ghostbusters
Tumblr media
I feel like this must have been the success that started the trend, because this show ran for several seasons.  I watched this cartoon before I ever saw the 2 movies.  It makes sense, I think.  A comedic series about ghost hunters using laser packs fits neatly into a weekly cartoon series.  The first movie is mostly okay for kids, despite some scary imagery and that one dream sequence of Ray getting a ghost blowjob.  The second movie is even more child-friendly, despite Vigo the Carpathian being fucking terrifying.  I was a big fan of all Ghostbuster-related stuff as a child.
Beetlejuice
Tumblr media
This was another franchise where I saw the cartoon before the movie.  When I finally got around to the movie, I surprised that lovable scamp Beetlejuice was actually the villain.  But hey, even in the movie he’s just kind of a funny guy.  We’ll just pretend that him trying to force-marry Lydia didn’t happen.  In the cartoon, they are platonic buddies who hang out together in the Netherworld, Beetlejuice usually pulling some kind of sleazy scheme.  I can understand making him the star, he’s the most interesting part of the movie, and he makes a more fun companion for Lydia than the dead couple in the movie.  (Although I liked them, they were nice.)  I watched this one, too, not as devotedly as Ghostbusters.
Police Academy
Tumblr media
The movies were just dumb, slapstick comedy, so okay, I kinda get it.  I remember seeing most of the movies as a kid, although my Dad thought the first and second were “too adult” for us kids.  (I’m guessing they must have gone down a rating and gotten more family friendly starting from 3 onward.)  Whatever critics might say, the movies made money, and they already had a wacky, cartoon ensemble cast assembled.  But I just think of the Simpsons here: “Why do you think I took you to see all those Police Academy movies?  Because they were funny?!  Well, I didn’t hear anybody laughing, did you?!”  I admit, I did watch this as a kid, though.
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Tumblr media
On the one hand, the idea of fighting mutant tomatoes, and the “Tomato Task Force,” including a scuba diver, a cowboy, a gymnast and a guy dressed like a WWII pilot, plus a teenage boy and a girl who is secretly a mutated tomato all sound like a recipe for a successful cartoon.  On the other hand, the movies themselves, both Attack of the Killer Tomatoes and Return of the Killer Tomatoes (where most of the characters come from) were not exactly box office hits, more cult films.  I will say, I thought Return of the Killer Tomatoes is actually pretty funny.  It doesn’t just break the fourth wall, it kicks down the fourth wall and stomps on it.  At one point, they run out of money to complete the film and have to get brand sponsorship, so you see all the generic food items suddenly become Snickers and cans of Coke that the actors conspicuously hold up to the camera.  The cartoon wasn’t that clever, from what I remember.
Little Shop of Horrors
Tumblr media
I mean.....the plant eats people.  I know it was a hit musical and there was a movie with Rick Moranis that had a much happier ending than the Broadway version, but.....the plant eats people, and Seymour is a murderer.  I guess they were trying for another Beetlejuice by making the colorful movie villain into a mostly harmless protagonist.  I don’t think he ate people in the cartoon.  I didn’t really watch this one.  The musical is a banger, though, you should all listen to the soundtrack.
Robocop
Tumblr media
Hey, you know that ultra-violent and bloody action movie about corporate greed and corruption and crime and the militarization of the police force?  Let’s turn that into a kid’s cartoon.  It’ll be perfect.  I will say, though, kids did watch the original movie.  I remember watching the first part of it at a friend’s birthday party, when I was way too young to see that scene in the executive boardroom where that one guy gets shot dozens of times by a malfunctioning robot.  That’ll live in my memory forever.
Toxic Crusaders
Tumblr media
Okay, I really want to know who greenlit this one.  Because the movie this was based on, the Toxic Avenger, was NOT remotely child-friendly, and more of a cult movie than a box office hit.  At least Robocop was popular, and older kids might conceivably enjoy it.  The Toxic Avenger was a campy B-movie satire with gruesome violence, as the hero, Toxie, murdered people in horrible ways.  It made even less money at the box office than Return of the Killer Tomatoes.  I can only guess that some executive thought a cleaned-up version of the movie would attract kids who liked Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with it’s weird mutated group of heroes.  Kind of like how, after the success of X-Men: TAS, every conceivable super-hero team was getting a cartoon, so we got short-lived stuff like UltraForce and Wild C.A.T.S.  At any rate, in the cartoon, Toxie and his mutated friends fought for environmentalism and cleaned up pollution, and for some reason their enemies were aliens instead of corporate polluters.  I think I watched like one episode of this.  If nothing else, I admire the dedication to taking a Troma movie and making it wholesome and kid-friendly.
And there were so many more.  Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Bill and Ted, Rambo, if it was remotely popular as a movie, and they thought they could market it to kids, it got a cartoon.  As far as I know, they’re not doing that as much any more.  Maybe because all the action movies these days are Marvel and DC, which already are comic-book adaptations and have had multiple cartoons.  Otherwise, I can only assume that the same people who adapted The Toxic Avenger would be giving us The Conjuring, Midsommer and Wolf of Wall Street cartoon series.  You know, for the kids.  Or maybe a Hereditary cartoon featuring the adventures of Charlie and her best friend Paimon, a mischievous demon, as they have magical adventures with her older brother Peter and learn important lessons.

this song is the melanie martinez orange juice of songs about gender roles, really. this song is the & juliet of talking about gender roles. this song is the-
long writing under the cut, watch out. @pathofelation sorry if you genuinely still like this song i am a bit mean about it but thank you for giving me the push to actually write this
this song has a lot of flash but seems to lack depth, fundementally. theres a lot of language which indicates theres some deeper message here, and some lines that could be bangers, but overall like. what is happening here. what can we learn about gender from this?
i think there are definitely things which are trying to be said here, but they feel very disingenuous, especially to me in the land of 2024. theres the hint of underlying, systemic violence. the inherent sexualisation/aggression based gender politics surrounding "manhood" vs "womanhood" respectively. theres hints of eating disorder criticism, links of suicide and depression to gender roles. but overall, all of this is very much surface level to me.
the framing of society as a little game implies that the system itself is made up (true, fair evaluation), but overall, something thats trivial, low stakes or applies mostly to children. it also frames the gendered issues which are being presented in the song as something which isn't really reality. so yeah, sure, gender roles are bullshit that repeatedly fuck people over and for what, really, but its a game. its not that important. the impacts are made up.
its the understanding of "gender is a social construct" without the next 2 understandings of -> "so is money but thats still. real and relevant. just because something is a construct doesnt mean its not important. checkmate woke libs" -> "social constructs are at the will of people to bend in order to function in peoples favour; as people are what create a society, while providing a physical and cultural context for interactions. this means they are subject to criticism and change, while still often being part of how people understand the world aroiund them."
mentions of things like suicide or references to eating disorders also end up becoming shallow and disingenuos, because they dont MEAN anything in this framing. sometimes this song is really serving we live in a society, because often the observations it makes about gender are the most surface level, and just that, observations. theres no emotional or even cultural links. like. okay. what is this
Bounded all thoughts and corrected common sense You're raising suicidals with your predetermined titles Like "a mess", "distressed", "I am unimpressed", "you're excess", "a dress is all you'll ever be". Gender roles impose control and deceive progressive times Welcome to the land of the broken minds
even the first line once you try to analyse it starts feeling a little bit too random for comprehension. maybe i am just stupid but "bounded all thoughts" is incomprehensible to me. what does that mean. like you. linked everyones thoughts?? corrected common sense can be analysed by loses all its punch by being right next to a series of words that mean. nothing.
we hear a mention of suicide and i think its supposed to be this big point and then words often used to describe teenage girls - maybe teenage boys, i never got that particular experience, teenage boys and ex teenage boys come and weigh in. the reason why these points matter sometimes is because of gendered expectations - failing to live into and relate to your peers and family. but some of these are personal instead. why does it matter if someoene says theyre unimpressed? thats not a title. thats not something linked to gender even. the idea of "a dress is all you'll ever be" once again looks super promising, but what does that mean?
its like yknow, your value is measured by your womanhood, and thats represented by this dress, so your body in this dress? thats it. but thats fucking INSANE like what are you talking about. especially when the idea is that ideas being forcibly imposed are leading to suicide. if your whole songs thesis is gender roles are made up (theyre just a game) and also bad then flipping to this vague line takes away impact from ur overall point.
finally. im sorry what the fuck is this??
Gender roles impose control and deceive progressive times Welcome to the land of the broken minds
so like. okay so gender roles control the world even though us woke libs think we broke them. welcome to the LAND OF THE BROKEN MINDS. THE
THE LAND OF. THEBROKEN MINDS.
once again, maybe im just super fucking stupiud, but looking at this, its really odd to see this. theres no link to the song in a meaningful way. theres no persinal or emotional link. theres no story link. what does it mean to be in the LAND OF THE BROKEN MINDS. is the idea that gender roles break peoples minds?
i guess the other thing this reminds me of is like. uhhhh young kid especially little girl im not like the other girls rejection of any traditional femininity. idk if this actually happens on a broad scale, but im prettyy syre it happens to a lot of young woman shaped people. and i think sometimes yeah you Go bestie escpae the pink, but the "not like the other girls" phenomenon is like. a really good showcase of performatively hating and rejecting traditional feminity and leaning into the negative stereotypes about women their age.
because these lyrics arent really all about the gender roles themselves right? like some are about personal expectation, some are about presentation, some imply like. society is brainwashing you. but not all of them really point to a man vs a womans place in society. if that makes sense. the idea that gender roles inherenrly break people when the portrayal is mostly minorly lacking but traditional femininity and............ a very lacking picture of masculinity ddoesnt really pointto like. oh we should be free to express ourselves as we want
it just says. gender is bad and not real. ur mind is broken. uve been brainwashed to not think. rip :(((
there is nothing HERE. this feels like a sound ai would write if you asked it to come up with a song about gender roles bad. therea lot of words and fury and noise but fuck man its NOTHING
secondarily, a fair amount of the lines are...... buzzwords maybe? for example, the line: "We feign opulence just to get by" is- at least to me- fucking absurd. what does this actually mean. how does this link back to gender. what does it mean in this context and framing to feign opulence?? it feels very "fake deep" because there isn't any true linking, in my reading, to any discussion of... how does this link to western patriarchal systems and gender roles. you DEFINITELY could explain the links, for example; the requirement for a woman to be a housewife to satisfy the structure of the "Family" but the requirement for 2 working parents to satisfy late stage capitalism leads to pressure for people to constantly strive to create a life which is flashy and well manicured to demonstrate compliance with both systems. but does the song engage with this topic - class or what money and family structures signify in any meaningful way?? nah it just has one line about how people are pretending to be living in luxury.
another thing i prominiently feel when listening to this in retrospect is that this smells like... well it smells like that early-late 2010s..... how do i describe it. when it was more or less popular to engage with depression on a very shallow level by being like. "... on the surface?? im smiling..... but inside.... im crying" and i totally GET how this was relatable to teenagers who were depressed and had other mental illness at the time, but that engagement with depression was.... i think at best, misguided? this series of lyrics:
We feign opulence just to get by Put on false confidence just to feel alive They can't hurt me anymore There's nothing left to break of me There's nothing left to take from me
'Cause, baby, it's easy to fake a smile When you've been doing it for a while Baby, it's easy to fake a smile When you've been doing it for a while
felt super IGEIRGIERJFERBGBRG to me as an abused, queer and mentally ill kid without language to describe their experience but looking at it now, what does it mean to be able to take a smile in this sense? this presentation of being rejected by society and allowing it to liberate you is another representation of how this song looks at these big issues of gender and society and queerness and rejection and takes the most, standoffish, meaningless stance on it.
theres nothing here to take away from literally any part of this song. sometimes it will hint at things, but overall, there doesn't seem to be a lot of... substance? like, okay, its easy to fake a smile after youve been doing it fot a while, but what does that actually mean? thats an assertion, but there isnt much emotion behind it, it kind of just reads like a fact. alternatively, i guess the idea is that you should stop faking your smile. okay. so what.
what i mean is, compared to a lot of other music, i think the catharsis a younger me found in it was largely because it explicitly put stright into words somethings i was feeling and presented thme in such a simple way. it has its place in my history. however. i mean. jesus christ did you watch the music video???? its a monster. its so ugly (filmography wise (im biased but. augh the cuts dude))
if i can make another link to that stupid faking opulence line, it would be about how, in the music video, which is part of what anyone who ever heard this song is remembering, the boys are depicted as. sporty. and. into army soliders. and one is dressed nicely but theres no pressure there or depiction to provide or protect or to dominate. the crime the boy commits to get EJECTED from the GENDER ROOM is touching a pink doll. the girls are depicted as all having very heavy make up, being made up and doing ballet.the crime the girl commits to get EJECTED from the GENDER ROOM is opening a book instead of using it to correct her posture. (theres a joke about transphobes thinknig this is how trans people want schools to be somewhere but im not cool enough to make it without sounding transphobic myself. sorry gang)
this doesnt really make any sense in terms of the opulence line, but really, like look at this. women shouldnt have education. men shouldnt like dolls. i think it demonstrates a historical difference in discrimination - where sectors of life were limited for women while feminity itself was off limits for men. (im not saying x or y is better or whatever, its just. different). but its INSANE to have this in a 2014 video about western patriarchal gender standards. i feel like my points are wayyyy too tangential and disorganised to make any sense sorry gang.
i mean. okay. last thing before maybe i consider a follow up about melanie martinezs orange juice which i have beef with.
subtlety is super important in making a message. subtlety and specificity are often what can create impact. im not saying statement music isnt powerful, and i wuld say. yeah sure you can call this a statement piece of music. but with the shallow lyrics and the fucking INSANE music video theres no subtlety or connection here. even if you can relate to the music; the rejection themes, the motifs of being silenced and ignored, the idea that once you are truly alone you can rebuild yourself thats so fair for u but i think this song really. loses out on what it can say by saying it in the most flashy and simple way possible.
theres not much soulto this song. i thinkfor me, it was good when i needed it as a younger teenager. farewell little game. at least ure not ai.
does anyone remember the benny song little game that came out in like. FUCKING 2014?????? OH MY GOD IT CAME OUT IN 2014???????? WHAT THE FUCK OKAY IM OLD
um other than tyhat does anyone else remember this or should i just write my thoughts on subtlety in music and just like. watch everyone be like ....leh why are u writing about this song that came out in fucking 2014???? (FUCKING 2014 JESUS CHRIST)
i also feel like i might be doing myself a disservice because maybe like it was just like. good for 2014 standards and i just wasn't culturally aware enough to know that this would have been a good song for gender roles and shit then (i only got woke in like 2019 mauybe. maybe. idk maybe a little later) (even my early ideas were pretty broken i think a lot of evolution was both required and beneficial).
anyway heres the link if you wanna get. fucking flashbacks if for some reason this was on ur radar back during mid-late 2010s????
