Will the Bell Ring? Pt. 8
[Erik Killmonger x Black!OC]
Word Count: 4k
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7
It’s the night before the vacation, and Kimara is still ripping around the house trying to figure out how to fit as many outfits into her bags as possible.
Erik sits on the bed scrolling through his phone. “It’s only five days, Mara. You already overdoing it.”
Kimara comes back with a couple of neon colored swimsuits in her hands. “I just have to have variety for the ‘gram. That means a different look a day, maybe even a couple different looks a day.”
Kimara got to her knees, stuffing a bag and closing it. The zipper traveled laboriously around the lip of the luggage, sticking at a thicker point. Kimara sat down on the bag to help it along a the zipper groaned close.
She takes a large exhale before saying, “Damn! I didn’t put my sandals in there!”
Erik scoffs as he gets up to use the bathroom. “You can just wear them to the airport or put it in your carry on.”
“No my carry on is filled with my hair and skin products, plus some towels cuz I don’t trust their towels, you know that.”
As Erik relieves himself, Kimara gets quiet, getting up and looking at herself in the mirror. Her fresh golden brown goddess locs flow over her breasts and down her back as she spins around checking her body’s profile.
The toilet in the other room flushes as Erik comes back, drying his hands on his pants. “Whatchu doin?”
“Well...I’m thinking this may be the last vacation I take as someone without kids. After this break, We finally take some major moves to go into getting pregnant.”
Kimara puffs out her cheeks holding her stomach as her vision goes blurry. The tears beat her before she could stop them, racing down her face to the finish line at her jaw.
Erik pulls her into him, rubbing her back gently. “It’s gonna be so good, because you’re good. We deserve a break and we deserve a family.”
Kimara holds her arms around him tighter, tears manifesting even more but out of his loving words. She never thought that after telling him she had her abortion that he would have anything kind to say to her. But it’s almost like it unlocked a much needed door that opened him up to fulling standing by her and her needs.
“We do deserve it. It’s been so hard, but I know we can do it,” Kimara sniffles. Erik kisses her forehead, wiping some stray tears from her face.
“Now, I don’t know about what you got left to pack but long as you have your passport, I think you have enough stuff. Go on and wash you ass off and get some sleep. The flight early as a motherfucker.”
Kimara agrees, going over to her vanity to tie up her hair. Erik grabs his phone and bounds down the stairs. He takes out a bottle of water, cracking it open and hooting after the cool liquid freezes the inside of his chest.
Hearing the shower turn on upstairs, Erik sits at the dining room table and dials T’Challa. The phone rings and rings.
“How are you, N’Jadaka?” T’Challa greets him warmly.
“I’m good, pretty good. Y’all excited for this trip though?”
“Ah, Iman is very excited. She has been looking forward to it ever since my invitation.”
“Good! You making sure she stay looking cute for you? Got her some nice pieces to impress?”
T’Challa answers slowly. “I...am glad you brought this up. We are no longer considered a couple. This will be a friendly trip for us at best, but we are not linked romantically.”
Erik expresses genuine shock, mouth agape over the phone. “Damn man, what happened?! Mara made it seem like y’all were a good look at that one dinner thing y’all came for. Shit, the fact you bagged her the first night told me you musta really been feeling her. What, she didn’t like your Jesus slides?”
“Aye!” T’Challa scolds him like a grandfather who can’t catch nobody for a whoopin but they know not to try him anyway. “My footwear has nothing to do with it. We are simply not compatible, but it was amicable.”
Erik shrugs. “Well whatever it is, I guess it’s for the best. I don’t get why somebody would pass on a literal King but listen, I will take you clothes shopping with me and we can make you over so you’re pulling females right and left!”
“Enough, I won’t beg for attention,” T’Challa says.
“Fair enough, aight. What about you then? Does it make it kind of awkward to go now your girl ain’t your girl?”
“No. It has been a while since I visited an island for pleasure, so it will be a nice change of pace. How about yourself and Kimara?”
Erik gets quiet, twisting a stray piece of string from his sweatpants that will guarantee making a hole if he snatches it.
“Well we good. Mara is excited and I am too cuz I need a break from the whites over at Boeing and this city air. But I did wanna talk about something she said to me that made me kinda take a step back, you know. Not like I’m stepping away but like it pushed me back like WOW.”
“Say it simply and clearly, N’Jadaka,” T’Challa says. Erik sometimes rambles when he has something big to say and T’Challa never fails to be impatient about it.
“Right, right. Aight. So, we having our time together, just hanging out and stuff when she turns to me and tells me something I did not expect. Like, I don’t know how she could keep that from me for so long considering all we been through.”
“What was it about?”
“Basically, she comes to me and says that way back, before we were officially a thing and before OUR shit together….Mara had an abortion. The baby was mine too.”
T’Challa sits on the phone quietly. He assumes this is the best method of digesting the information he already knew when he first met Kimara. She poured her heart out to him in the midst of Erik’s recovery and rehabilitation. But Erik couldn’t hear that and take it well.
“You still there, Challa?” Erik asks after a while.
“Yes, it is just a lot to hear.”
Erik throws a hand up. “Fuck yeah it is! Like...all this time we been trying for a kid. She didn’t think that should be brought up? I wonder if the doctors even know. That might be the problem we having in all this! Maybe her shit got botched or something.”
“I am sure the doctors would have noticed something wrong with her during routine examination if that were true. Non-surgical abortions are an option.”
Erik scratches his head. “Sure, yeah. But...why didn’t she say this YEARS ago! I been fucking with her for a decade, and she doesn’t trust me to know this? I’m still here!”
“You were different then Erik. So angry and feeling betrayed, she assumed you would think she betrayed you too.”
Erik thinks back to when Kimara met him in Wakanda, how tired she looked. But his reasons for being there were all about himself and Kimara wasn’t ready for that responsibility, that’s when she left him there. That was the best thing she could’ve done for him because he worked that whole year trying to get right for her again. And she was there in that studio she loves, waiting for him like always.
“I would have a ten year old right now. Almost middle schooler right now!” Erik exclaims, thinking about a little Mara/Erik hybrid running around and causing havoc.
“You can still have that. Just be honest with each other and what you are feeling,” T’Challa instructs.
“Yeah, I been doing that. I can tell Mara been walking around like a puppy caught chewing a shoe since she told me. But I won’t let her see me upset, I need her to know I am there. That’s what made all this happen in the first place right? I wasn’t there, so...Imma be there.”
T’Challa wants to say more but fears overstepping the bounds of Erik and Kimara’s relationship. “Tell her you are upset about it.”
Erik hears the shower upstairs turn off. “Nah, I’m good. Her feelings are all I’m worried about. I can’t risk her turning from me again man. But thanks Challa, you always got a good er for listening, so I’ll talk to you later man.”
Erik hangs up to go back upstairs, feeling lighter having had a talk with someone he trusts. Kimara is already laid up with the covers under her chin, fake sleeping. Erik takes off his pants, rolling into bed with nothing between his skin and the sheets. Mara is wrapped up in one of hs tshirts and turns her back to him to allow her little spoon to fit his big spoon.
“Why are you acting like you cold?” Erik asks. Kimara is usually in the buff like him when they sleep.
“Because I am. You got the air on too damn chilly,” Kimara’s teeth chatter as she settles in to him, his body heat eventually making up for the lack of heat outside their blanket cocoon. Erik kisses her behind her ear, thinking about tomorrow’s trip with a little dread.
--
Kimara, Erik, Iman, and T’Challa all make their way off of the plane as they arrive at the beautiful resort in Turks and Caicos.
“Look at all the amazing views! That water, ugh!” Kimara excitedly rolls her luggage over to a window that oversees the resort’s amenities. An infinity pool, hot tubs, massage areas, sauna, a bar that catches Kimara’s eye for having real coconuts to drink from.
“Erik, look! That canopy I think has the couple massage shit. I reserved it for us on Thursday at 10am.”
“Ok, princess. That sounds good,” Erik says with not nearly as much excitement.
Iman stands next to Kimara, eyes widening. “Ooh child, yes! Imma look good for these champagne papis looking for a sugar baby to spoil. Can we please get our room so I can change out of these airport struggle clothes?!”
“I hear you on that,” Erik says, leading the group to the reception desk. Kimara hangs back with T’Challa who has been awfully quiet.
“Are you and Iman…” Kimara whispers.
“No longer a couple,” T’Challa finishes. “It’s not something to worry about, we are friends.”
“Oh ok, cool. Cuz when she started talking about finding a sugar daddy I was like whaaa?”
T’Challa shrugs. “She is free to do as she wants, as am I.” T’Challa offers Kimara a soft smirk to confirm his contentment.
Kimara gives his arms a squeeze. “Ohh, T. You got your pick of the litter around here. You the damn ultimate sugar daddy! I just don’t understand the girl!”
“Most people don’t recognize fortune at their feet when their nose is in the air.” Kimara lets out a small ooh enjoying the lowkey burn T’Challa just sent Iman’s way with her being none the wiser.
Erik and Kimara split down a hall to the left as T’Challa and Iman split down a hall to the right. The hall is decorated with hanging plants and wicker framed artwork, giving off heavy gentrified bohemian vibes.
As Erik opens the door to the room, Kimara bursts in and rockets herself into the bedroom. Erik rolls his and her luggage in.
“Damn, this place looks nice as hell baby!” Kimara calls out from the room.
“It should be for what it cost.” Erik looks out at the beach below watching some middle age white folk laying like lobsters out in the sun. Middle aged white folk running along the shore. Elderly white folk sitting in the ocean.
“There sure is a lotta fuckin white folk here,” Erik says, walking around the room to check out the bathroom and kitchen area. The fridge has fresh strawberries and grapes, a sack of bagels, orange juice and a case of bottled water. On the counter next to it is a menu for room service and a schedule for group meals during their stay. Erik takes it into the bedroom with him to alert Kimara.
“You tryna catch dinner happening tonight? Supposed to be a barbecue thing.”
Kimara groans, head face down in the pillow, locs sprawled all around. “I can’t even think about eating when my body just wants to do nothing. I’m tired.”
“You sure? I know your ass finna get real hungry later. You ain’t had nothing but them pretzels on the flight,” Eric warns.
“I can’t get up! And I won’t until I knock out, Erik please let me sleep.”
Erik tuts at her. “Ok, princess. But I ain’t paying this high ass room service cuz you slept thru dinner.”
Kimara wiggles around, fighting her hair to get a good look at him. “Stop acting broke, Erik. It’s not a good look. And you know I’m grown right? I can do what I want? Right? Ok, glad we up to speed.”
Erik rolls his eyes as Kimara plops her head back down, shimmying under the covers like a prairie dog.
--
Kimara rolled over to one side, feeling the grip of sleep starting to loosen its hold. Kimara stretched from her fingertips to her toes, seizing up in the bliss of her fully relaxed muscles. She sits up, pulling her locs back as her eyes adjust to the dark room.
“Where the fuck- OH!” Kimara puts a hand to her heart, forgetting that she was not home and still on vacation.
She gets out of be and checks the time on her phone is 11:14 pm and a waiting text from Erik.
“Did I really sleep for 8 hours?” Kimara asks herself, wiping her eyes as she looks around the room, finding a lamp to turn on. She sits on the couch feeling her stomach grumble.
“Goddamn I am hungry,” She says, picking up the pamphlet Erik was looking at for room service. But it ended at 10:30.
“That is bullshit.” Kimara sits back pouting, wondering what she was going to do for food. She checks her phone again, almost forgetting Erik texted.
BBQ in fridge, it reads. Timestamp says 7:13pm.
Kimara bolts for the fridge to find a tinfoil wrapped plate sitting on the shelf just for her. She does a little dance to open it up, finding pork ribs, chicken, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, green beans and a roll. She takes a bite of the bread first, shimmying her shoulders with glee that it is a King’s Hawaiian.
She pops the plate into the microwave, hopping on her tiptoes in anticipation for some chowdown goodness. Once the microwave beeps, the room door opens.
“Sleeping Beauty finally awake?” Erik asks, his breathing is a little labored.
Kimara picks up her plate and brings it to the kitchen bar, climbing up on a stool. “Mh-mm, not until you come over her after leaving me all day on vacation.”
“Girl please,” Erik says walking over to plant a kiss on Kimara’s lips.
“Oof, you are sweaty! What you been doing tonight?”
Erik’s tank top draped over his shoulder, Kimara stares at the glistening of his scarred skin as he gets a bottle of water.
“Me and T and his girl been downstairs hanging out, mostly me and T though. How’s your barbecue?”
Kimara shrugs. “It’s ok. The sauce could be better but long as the meat ain’t pink I’ll call it a blessing. Hand me that salt shaker by the stove.”
Erik does so, standing on the other side of the bar to wipe his face and neck with his shirt.
“And I am so surprised they are even on this trip together still,” Kimara says while shaking some salt over her beans and corn.”
“Who?” Erik asks.
“T’Challa and Iman! You know what, I forgot to mention. I spoke to T’Challa at check in and he said they broke things off.”
Erik points in the air, remembering, “You right yeah he mentioned that.”
“Oh, he told you today while y’all were hanging? Did Iman say anything?”
Erik shakes his head. “Nah, he told me the day before.”
Kimara cocks her head to the side thinking. “The other day? Like yesterday?”
“Yeah, I called him when we were packing.”
“But I didn’t hear you talk on the phone. We were together that whole time,” Kimara says, pausing her meal to think about it.
Erik shrugs. “You were in the shower.”
Kimara wants to fold her arms but her bbq sauced hands prevent her. “Hand me a paper towel.”
Erik does so. “Is something wrong with me taking a call with my cousin?”
Kimara scoffs while cleaning her fingers. “Not at all. What did you all talk about?”
“The trip. Just how excited we were and then he brought up they aren’t a thing no more.”
“Really? Huh. I think that’s weird Erik.”
“What’s weird about it?” Erik counters, looking sternly at Kimara.
“You didn’t tell me you called him and you almost always tell me when you’ve seen him or heard from him when I ask you about the day.”
“Almost, you said. SO this one time I didn’t. I don’t think you asked about my day either,” Erik quips.
“Because we were together the whole day, I know how it went cu I was there.”
“Sure.”
They pause in silence for a minute, Kimara staring him down and Erik returning the glare.
“Problem, princess?” he asks.
“You’re hiding something.”
“I talked to my cousin, what else is there to it?!” Erik barks, making Kimara jump on her stool. She gets down, creating some distance.
“All I asked is what you all talked about. And I didn’t even know you had a conversation with him one day before our trip, I think it’s sus.”
“Oh, I’m sneaky? That’s a big accusation.”
Kimara felt something twist in her chest. “What does that mean Erik?”
Erik walks into the bedroom as Kimara follows. He turns into the bathroom and starts the shower as Kimara sits on the bed waiting. When Erik comes back out, Kimara wastes no time.
“You told him didn’t you,” Kimara says quietly. She doesn’t look at Erik, hoping she is wrong and overreacting and waiting for him to say so, but he sits down instead.
“I told him what you told me.”
Kimara exhales deeply, holding her face in her hands. Erik takes her into his chest, comforting her.
“You didn’t have to tell him. Why would you tell him?”
“Like I said. He’s my cousin. Family oughta know and he knows a lot more worse shit about me than this.”
Kimara looks at Erik, holding his face in her hands. “I’m sorry you had more shit to tell him. How did he react?”
Erik shrugs. “Kinda just neutral. It was so long ago, I wasn’t acting upset so I think he knew he didn’t have to be.”
Kimara feels a small victory in that. She still feels like she should confront T’Challa about it, just to make sure they are on the same page.
“I’m glad you weren’t too upset then. You don’t have to tiptoe around me, just tell me what’s real. We gotta be honest about what’s going on.”
Erik gives a small smirk. “He said something like that too.”
Kimara hugs Erik, taking this battle as a win. “You can take a shower now.”
Erik chuckles. “Yeah me and T had a volleyball match downstairs that got hella intense.”
Kimara gets up, putting on her shoes. “Well I think I should take a walk along the beach some.”
“Yeah, you got energy now from that long ass nap of yours. Be careful though. Call me if you need something.”
When Kimara makes it to the bottom floor, the automatic doors leading outside create a gust of air that whips Kimara’s sundress almost too high for public decency. As she steps out on the sand, she looks around the dimly lit beach area. Along the sand there were vendors and seating but into the ocean the sky was so dark and the ocean almost looked like oil. The moon wasn’t shining so bright, so she could barely catch any blips of light against the waves.
“Kimara!”
She turns to see Iman bounding towards her. She has a generous F cup size, barely being held by her neon yellow bikini top, making her noticeable even in the night.
“What’s going on? You just woke up?”
“Yeah, too bad I didn’t set an alarm. Heard you guys had fun.”
Iman smiles. “Hell yeah we did. T and Erik had their guy time, being macho all on the volleyball court. Busted two damn balls cuz they throwing their hands so damn hard.”
Kimara laughs. “Erik refuses to let T’Challa win in anything so that’s accurate.”
“Right! Hey look, so project Sugar Daddy is underway. I got a bunch of drinks off this old man that kept a tab open. I think he forgot because he’s old but that’s besides the point. But he offered to play yahtzee or mancala or something tomorrow with some of his buddies. That should be lit!”
Kimara throws her hands to the sky. “I mean what else is there to do. Make sure his tab is open.”
“Only way to play!”
Kimara looks around Iman. “T’Challa is down here, right?”
“Uh huh, cooling off over there even though he barely broke a sweat. He act kinda like a mutant sometimes. Too cool and too strong.”
“Is that why you couldn’t stand to be with him?” Kimara asks.
“A little, yeah, and that tooth necklace he always wear is weird. He wasn’t giving me a lot of himself so I figure good dick is everywhere. I’ll pass.”
Kimara shrugs and dismisses herself to go talk to T’Challa. He is laid out with his hands behind his head, looking rather peaceful.
Kimara comes up to him and smacks his perfectly toned stomach. T’Challa peeks open one eye knowingly.
“Kimara,” he says in a monotone.
“Don’t gossip with Erik, ok?”
T’Challa sits up. “In what way?”
“I mean in the only way. Speaking behind my back. Talking about personal things without the other person’s input.”
“If this is about your shame-”
“HA! Shame? You keep calling it a shame, I am not ashamed anymore! He knows and he is fine. We are fine!”
T’Challa blinks unperturbed. “Then what is the problem?”
“Just!” Kimara sits by his legs to form her thoughts. “Erik didn’t know about that, you did. He hasn’t known for years and just found out. If he knew you knew, wouldn’t that be a problem?”
“No.”
“Exactly, so-- Wait, no?”
“No, it wouldn’t be a problem. Because if he blames you, he is completely missing the situation he put you in. It would be selfish of him to hold that against you.”
“Uh huh…”
“But for you to not say anything at first was for his benefit when he was emotionally and mentally bruised by his background. However since he has recovered and continues to, holding that back then turns into a betrayal to him because it looks as though you don’t trust him or yourself.”
Kimara stands up. “The fuck? Why wouldn’t I trust him?!”
T’Challa shrugs.
“No you got so much to say, say what that means!”
“All I know is I have no secrets between you and I or he and I. Why there is miscommunication between you two is something for you both to find out. And I suggest you do before becoming with child.”
“Fuck you T’Challa. Honestly. Don’t come at me like this. I said keep your mouth shut about me around Erik, period. So do that. I don’t know why you came on this trip anyway. It was a couples trip and you brought a random bitch out here like that’s ok.”
“It didn’t cost me much,” T’Challa says, sinking back in his chair with his hands behind his head.
Kimara walks along the beach fuming. T’Challa was so blunt with her, he hadn’t acted like that with her in a long time. T’Challa acts like he is so perfect, but he isn’t. Kimara sighs heavily with the prospect of being here four more days but T’Challa will not be with Erik for as much of the trip as possible as far as she is concerned.

Sixty Seven
Randi
I was arranging everything for the big pregnancy reveal that morning, including still inviting people because i was bad at planning things. I called Cole last because i had a feeling we'd end up on the phone for a while talking about other shit. I hadn't seen him since his game last week.
“I’m having a brunch at my place tomorrow,” I said, “be there.” I waited for him to laugh or say he’d be there but he paused for a while.I stretched out on the couch that i was sitting on, resting my legs in Cayden's lap.
“I may have something else, I’ll let you know,” he said.
“Something like what? It’s importnat,” I said, trying to stress that I had something to tell him without actually telling the news.
“I’ll get back to you,” He said. My face scrunched up in confusion at what he could possibly have to do that he couldn’t come to my place for like an hour, especially when I was offering him food.
“Fine...”i said.
“Aight, gotta go. I’ll talk to you later.”
“Ok, bye...”I said just before he hung up. I must have been visibly frowning because Cay looked over at me and said,
“What?”
“Cole just shaded me mad hard on the phone,” I said.
“You probably just over thinking it, what he say?” He asked.
“He said he may have something else, and that he’d ‘get back to me’, even though I said it was obviously important,” I said, putting my phone down and crossing my arms. Cayden made a ‘yikes’ face. “Exactly.”
“Cole can be pissy, he probably just having a bad day or something,” he tried. I shot him a look and he quickly got up. “Well I’m gonna go to work now.”
“I’m gonna go get ready I guess,” I mumbled, “I look horrendous today, my face is all puffy.”
“You look alright to me,” Cayden said, fishing his keys from his pocket.
“Gee thanks,” I said.
“You look beautiful I mean,” he grabbed my arm with a smirk. “Where you going anyways?”
“Out with Jenny, I think China and Jada might come.”
“Alright, have fun, and no fast food, you gotta start eating healthy for real babe,” he gave me a serious look.
“Yeah, yeah. Good bye,” I said, getting up and walking to the stairs. We went our separate ways and i started working on making myself look decent.
Lunch was just Jenny and I which was cool. She was telling me about work and what she had been doing, some trip she was planning. When she was done I asked what I really wanted to know.
“So what about the guy you told me about, the one you’re working for?” I asked. She bit her lip and I leaned in closer.
“I finally agreed and went out with him,” she said I’m a guilty tone.
“And?” I encouraged her to go on and spill the real tea.
“It was good, really good. Weird, but good.”
“See! I knew you would have a good time. So are you guys going out again?” I asked.
“We’ve been talking everyday since. I see him a lot because of work. We’re still getting to know each other, I don’t even know what it is if anything yet. I’m not in a rush at all,” she said.
“Well I think you should bring him to brunch tomorrow,” I said.
“That would be weird,” she said.
“Why? You’re not even together yet, I just wanna see him. China is bringing Rambo, Jada night be bringing a friend so it will be chill.”
“I’ll think about it,” she said, giving me look that convinced she wasn’t even concidering it. “What’s this brunch about anyways,” she made a face.
“Come and find out,” I said with a smile.
“God, you’re the worst. You wanna know everyone else’S business, but you’re real hush about your own,” she cut me a look. I laughed and shrugged.
“I’m not that interesting,” I said simply.
“I beg to differ,” she said. “Oh thank god, foods here.” I turned around and saw the waiter coming with our plates. My mouth watered. I was starving, and really craving spicy food.
I called Cayden on my way to the salon. I wanted to drop in for a little bit.
“Hey babe,” he said.
“Hi,” I said, adjusting my pants which were now tight.
“What’s up?” He asked.
“I have the worst heart heart burn,” I complained. I knew it was the spicy food but I left that part out.
“You take some medicine?” He asked.
“No. I don’t even know what I’m aloud to take,” I frowned.
“Call the doctor and ask,” he suggested.
“Ok,” I said.
“Where are you going? I can hear you driving.”
“To the salon. I’m meeting some guy to talk about how much it would cost to build our own place,” I said.
“Y’all still on that second store idea,” he said, in a tone that suggested he was not a fan.
“What you mean still on it Cay, we decided like months ago,” I said, checking my side mirror and changing lanes.
“You really tryna be doing all that while you pregnant?” He asked.
“It’s gonna be a long 9 months, honestly the distraction might be nice.”
“Yeah but the stress ain’t good for the baby. You know how worked up you get,” he said. “Plus your anxiety been bad lately.” All the points he was making were valid but for some reason it set me off and I got defensive.
“I’m anxious because I’m pregnant and I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing Cayden. Because I didn’t see this happening, at least not any time soon. So, please, give me a break with that, ok. And if I wanna work and I feel like it’s gonna be good for me then I’m gonna work,” I said frantically, my hands firm on the steering wheel. I could hear him groan even over the phone.
“I better not hear you bitching about how stressed you are then,” he mumbled. I got emotional then and tears started falling from eyes before I could understand what was happening.
“You don’t have to be so mean all the time,” I cried, tears clouding my vision of the road. He could definitely hear that i was crying, there was no covering it up.
“Ok Sorry,” He said, caught off guard by my sudden emotion. I was still crying and was considering pulling over at this point. It was like i knew it wasn't worth crying over but had no control over it. “Don’t cry, please. It was my bad, i shouldn't be swearing at you anyway, pregant or not."
“Okay,” I mumbled, a snotty mess.
“I feel bad," he said, and i could hear in his voice that he really did, and knowing Cayden he would be off the whole day if he thought he hurt me.
“It's ok, i just got overwhelmed.” I took a steadying breath.
“I'm working on being patient,” he said. Wow. I should just stay pregnant forever, i thought to myself. I never would have gotten all that from him before i had a baby in me.
"God, I love you Cay," i said, missing him now.
"I love you baby mama," he replied. "But i gotta go. Imma see you soon though,"
"Okay, see you in a bit." We said goodbye then i hung up. I had arrived at the salon anyways. I grabbed my bag and got out.
The next morning I woke up early because i had to cook and get ready as well. My mom came early to help me cook though, so it wasnt that bad. I had a chance to get changed and put some makeup on once we were done. Cayden was still lounging in the bed while i got ready in the bathroom. I put on a floral dress that ended just above my knees and was quite fitted so it showed off now slightly poking bump. My plan was to wear a cardigan until i announced, then id show the evidence. I put some lipgloss on to finish and then left the bathroom.
"Damn," Cayden said, getting up from the bed, still naked which was pretty distracting. He gripped my shoulders and kissed my forehead. "you deadass glowing," he said. I looked down at myself.
"Really?" i asked. He nodded, pushing aside my cardigan and putting his giant hands on either side of my stomach.
"You look good with my kid inside you."
"I dont know how i feel about that statement," i said, feeling slightly disturbed. He chuckled, sliding his hands around to my lower back.
"Speaking of being inside you," he said, pulling me into his naked body.
"Im tired," i complained, "and i just got dressed. Also you know my mother's downstairs?"
"Shit, i forgot about your moms," he said, caressing my butt. I had a feeling this was still gonna end how Cayden planned because i was weak and generally couldn't resist him. "You just gotta be quiet then, you know how you be screaming" he said with a sexy grin on his lips. I felt him poking me then and i looked down.
"Cay" i said with a laugh. He looked me over, lingering at my chest.
"What you expect me to do?" My mother started calling my name from downstairs then and i fixed my cardigan that he had opened quickly so i could leave.
"I dont know but be quick about it, people will be here soon," i said, heading for the door. I left him to get ready and went to go see what my mom wanted.
Cayden
People were already getting there when i got downstairs, and Randi was running around of course. I dont know why she made this such a big thing and created work for herself, but i also understood that she wanted to get everyone we cared about together. My parents were just coming through the front door so i went to go get their jackets and stuff.
"Hey mama, pops," i said, hugging my mom and shaking my dads hand.
"Hey baby..." she said wearily.
"What?" i asked.
"You got your mama nervous wondering what this brunch all about," Pops said, gruff as usual. I laughed.
"Relax mama," i told her. She cut me a mad side eye and i just took her jacket from her hands and put it in the closet. "Yall head in," i told them. Ty had just pulled up, and Cole was with him. I sighed in relief for myself that he had showed up, i would have never heard the end of it if he hadn't and whatever drama he and Randi had continued. They walked up the driveway and i dapped them both when they came to the door. I remembered then that Ty already knew.
"Where the food at," he said immediately.
"Dining room," i said. He pushed past me and walked away to that area. I stopped Cole before he could follow.
"whats good with you and Randi?" i asked.
"Why do i feel like you gon off me or something for having problems with her?" He looked at me suspiciously. I cackled.
"Nigga that petty drama is not my business. I know she frustrating, im married to her," i shrugged.
"Amen to that," he mumbled. I put my hand on his shoulder.
"I know its nothing that deep because yall still talking, and you here. Both of you just childish." I squeezed his shoulder tighter. "But if you ever did really hurt her feelings,i actually would have to off you. I hope you know that," i said, all smiles gone now. He looked surprisingly accepting of the fact.
"Ty warned me already," he said. "That would be pretty shitty for me."
"It would be for me too, cause you my nigga" i said, looking him in the eyes.
"Nice of you to show up," Randi's voice came from behind me. I patted Cole's back playfully and turned to face her.
"Well thats my cue," i said. I left them to hash things out and went to go find food myself.
I was talking to Randi's dad when i spotted Jenny coming through the door, Randi greeting her like the good host she was. I smiled and made a move to go and say hi but stopped in my tracks when a dude id never seen before came through the door after her. Randi hugged Jenny and then she went to go hug the dude and my hand tightened around the cup i was holding.
"Excuse me sir, someone i know just got here," i said to pops.
"Go ahead son," he said. I put my cup down on the counter and started walking to the door. Randi saw me then and she quickly walked over to meet me before i got there. She grabbed my arm as i made eye contact with Jenny, who looked like a kid that had just gotten in trouble.
"Be nice," Randi said.
"He's in my house," i pointed out.
"Okay, but i invited him," she said. I looked down at her.
"Yeah, and im wondering why," i said, trying to control my temper so i didnt pop off on him and her.
"I was trying to be supportive of Jenny moving on," she said, defending herself. I scoffed.
"You helping her move on from my brother," i shook my head, getting more pissed off as i thought about it and looked at the dude standing in my house. Jenny came up to us then and she turned to Randi.
"I told you this wasn't a good idea," Jenny said, "I think im just gonna go."
"No dont," Randi said.
"You supposed to be on my side Randi," i said, feeling betrayed. At this point my problem wasn't even with Jenny. I felt more like Randi had gone behind my back.
"I am on your side, im always on your side," she said, voice low.
"You really acting like it," i said, looking over at the guy standing by the door. I turned and left to go back into the house where everybody was. I wanted to walk all the way out the house, but i knew i couldn't just up and leave while all these people here for us, and especially because we were supposed to tell them about the baby. I got back to the party and walked up to Ty.
"We bout to pull up on someone?" Ty asked, seeing my face.
"nah," i said.
"You gotta relax my nigga. I got you," he said, pulling a blunt out of his pocket.
"Bet," i nodded to the stairs.
We passed the blunt around for a while in one of the guest bathrooms upstairs with the shower running and window open so we wouldn’t smell up the place. After a while a knock came on the door.
"Its me, your wife, who you love, also carrying your unborn child," she said.
"Wow, she really got you locked down dont she?" Ty said. I rolled my eyes.
"Ty, you better open this door," she said.
"Yo she scares me," he shrugged, going to open the door. "Imma go downstairs."
"Go put on some of Cay's cologne first," Randi said, shaking her head. He smelled himself then nodded. It hit me then that the whole room was swimming in weed.
"You shouldn't be here, the baby," i said.
"Yeah its pretty bad," she was plugging her nose already because she didnt like the smell. I put the blunt out and walked out into the attached bedroom and she followed. I sat on the bed and she came to sit beside me.
"They're gone now," she said. I didnt say anything so she continued. "I didnt think youd be that mad."
"You expect me to be happy about that shit?" i looked at her like 'really'.
"No. I thought you'd just be shocked but eventually warm up to the idea. But clearly i was wrong," she said, and when i mean mugged her she added, "and stupid. Im sorry you felt like i wasn't on your side."
"I also dont like surprises, and people i dont know, you know that."
"I know," she said, caressing my cheek. "But you do know you gonna have to warm up to the idea of her going on with her life at some point right?" I groaned, thinking about if jenny actually ended up staying with this nigga. One way or another i would eventually have to know him, unless i was gonna cut off Jenny, which id never do.
"But you really gotta be out here helping bring them together?" I locked my jaw. She grabbed my chin with her slender fingers.
"Okay ill stay out of it from now on, and tell you what, if you get to know him and you still hate him i wont fuck with him either."
"Good," i mumbled. She kissed my cheek.
"Can we go tell people about the baby now? I really need to get it over with while i still have the nerve," she looked really uninterested in the whole idea which was funny, most girls loved things like this.
"Yeah lets go," i took her hand and we left the room.
Once we got downstairs Randi gathered everyone in the living room and said she wanted to make a toast. So everyone held their glasses expecting her to make one. She looked nervous now that everyone was looking at her, so i wrapped my arm around her waist to calm her down. She looked up at me and i knew i was gonna be the one making this announcement. I turned to everyone else and lifted my glass.
"Id like to make a toast, to the reason we're all here. To my beautiful wife," i looked down at her and she blushed, "who has a way of bringing everyone together, even when its against their will," people laughed and she rolled her eyes. I looked back her, and we locked eyes for a long moment, and it was like looking into her soul. "She's loving, caring...and selfless, all the things that are gonna make her an amazing mother." I finished and everyone was frozen, looking suspicious but not 100% sure. Randi stepped out of my grip and opened her sweater revealing a small, but obvious bump.
"I knew it!" her mom hollered from the kitchen "Thank you Jesus!" Cheers and clapping erupted and people swarmed us, well mostly Randi, to say congratulations and ask how far along she was, all that stuff. It was weird being congratulated for making a human, but i rolled with it.
Our parents finally got a moment with us and they were clearly the happiest out of everyone here.
"I can't wait to tell all the ladies at church," her mom said, hugging Randi tight to her.
"Oh me too, especially that Heather May, always announcing her new inlaws and grandkids every sunday. Oh we're gonna show her," my mom chimed in, also gushing over Randi and brushing her hand through her hair. My dad came and clapped me on the back, actually smiling and looking genuinely happy for the first time in god knows how long.
"Im happy for you son. Being a father will change you, but it will be the greatest thing you do," he said.
"Thanks Pops, im gonna try my best. You 'bout to be grandpa now though," i said, realizing that myself. He chuckled, sounding genuinely amused which was also shocking.
"hm i guess so," he said, looking like he was imagining it now. He looked...excited. I guess it was true what people said, babies had a way of bringing people together.
"Well done Son!" Randi's dad pulled me in to a tight bear hug. He was back to his normal self after the heart attack several months ago. He had done intense physical therapy and i know Randi was still really worried about him for a while but now you could tell he was back to good health.
"She's doing all the hard work," i said.
"Oh its going be a long 9 months for you too. Just wait. Her mother had me driving 3 hours to go and get pizza from a specific pizzaria, and god forbid i forgot the anchovies on the side" he looked to her mom who shrugged.
"Pregnancy cravings are normal. How have you been doing? Why didnt you tell me earlier?" She looked slightly hurt.
"Well you already knew so obviously i wasn't hiding it well. Im just tired, throwing up, but thats it," Rand told her.
"Awe. Can you imagine, my baby is having a baby," she said, tearing up, not for the first time. I could tell Randi was already getting tired of everyone being all in her face, but they were just excited.
"Ill come find you later mom. I need to talk to some other people," she smiled at her mom, who reluctantly let her go. Randi came to slide under my arm.
"Jesus," she mumbled.
"i know," i said, rubbing her arm. "Well theres Cole, that should cheer you up." He was making his way over to come talk to us since our parents had been hogging us.
"I can't even believe it," he said, hugging Randi tightly and picking her up off the ground. She laughed which was nice to hear. "Lil nugget is gonna be a mom, wow," he said.
"You never suspected, right?" she smirked.
"Never, im still in shock," he shook his head. "Wait, is this why you were ghosting me?"
"Ive been ghosting everyone. Im always either laying down or sleeping most of the time, epecially in the beginning. But its getting better now," she said. "That's also why i left your game, it was cold and Cay didn't want me getting sick."
"Well now i feel like an ass," his face dropped.
"That because you are an ass," i shrugged with a grin.
"May be an ass but at least my pull out game is strong," he shrugged.
"Hi, im here," Randi said, waving her hand around.
"So, what am i gonna be, like an uncle?" he asked, bending down to observe her stomach.
"Yeah i guess," she shrugged.
"Cool," he said, smiling. Randi looped her arm in his and they went off to go talk with Jada and China. I took that as sign that they were no longer fighting, which was good for all of us.
Randi
After about an hour of talking to people and having my bump touched and people hugging and kissing me i was really over it and was ready to just crash. I had been on my feet since this morning too so i was exhausted which made me feel sick. People were still mingling and trying to get a hold of me and i had been separated from Cayden a while ago but i went to go find him. He was out back on the deck with Ty and his parents. I went up to him and grabbed his arm. He bent down so i could talk in his ear.
"Can we go? I feel sick," i said. He nodded and wrapped an arm tight around my waist.
"Ill catch up with you guys later," he said to them. They said ok and he led me back inside. We went upstairs and i made a b-line to the bathroom with him behind me. I tried to throw up for a while but nothing came up and it was just dry heaving which was almost worse. After a while he just held me on the bathroom floor, and it was the first quiet, calm, moment we'd had together since the party started.
"Thanks for breaking the news," i said. "I panicked."
"It's aight. I was excited to tell them anyways."
"The strangest part of all this," i said, pasuing to really think about it, "is that now they all know we've been having sex."
"I think they knew that already Randi," he chuckled. He had a good point, but it still felt oddly exposing.
"Is it bad that i want them all to leave now," i mumbled, cheek to the floor.
"I can tell them to get out if thats what you want," he offered. I shook my head.
"Here, drink this," my moms voice suddenly came from the bathroom door. She was standing there holding a mug. "It will help with the nausea," she explained, walking over towards the bathtub where we were. So i took it and drank it. "Dont worry, people are starting to leave already. They saw you leaving and realized how tired you must be."
"Thanks mommy," i said, feeling particularly childish at the moment. She smiled.
"Im gonna go start cleaning up," she said. I nodded and then she left.
"Im a horrible person," i said as soon as she was gone.
"What? Why?" Cayden said, confused.
"Because i didn't wanna tell her, or anyone, and they're all so happy."
"Nah, that doesn't make you a horrible person. You're just private. But aren't you sort of glad they know now?" I knew what he meant, it made it feel more real, and their excitement and joy did make me feel like something good was coming. I was touched by how many people already loved this baby.
"Are you trying to say i told you so to me? While im pregnant?" I looked up at him.
"Is that gonna be the new card you play every time things aren't going your way?" he guessed.
"Yes, yes it is," I nodded proudly.
"Well, seriously though, thank you."
"For what?" i asked, playing with his hand in mine.
"For doing this for me," he rubbed my stomach, he was the only person that i actually liked doing that.
"You're welcome. But there is something i been wanting to say to you, and i feel like its important for you to know," i started.
"Okay..." he said, brows coming together.
"I am excited about having a baby.Yes, i'm doing this for you, but for me too. I know i was slow to warm up to the idea, but i can't wait to raise kids with you Cay," i smiled up at him. I saw the glimmer in his eye and it made me melt inside.
"Wait, you said kids, plural," he smirked. Of course he would focus on that.
"I did," i simply replied. He leaned down to plant his lips on mine, kissing me with all the excitement and love in the world. I wasn't sure if it was whatever drink my mom made, or the kiss, but i suddenly didn't feel sick anymore.

Knocking I wait before twisting the nob. "Stanley...you ok baby?"
She looks up from a book taking off her headphones. "Yeah I just ignore her now."
Sitting I sigh. The fact that my two oldest are having some kind of disagreement hurts me. Am I not doing something right as a parent?
"What's going on with you two?"
She sighed setting her things aside. "I'm trying to look out for her but for some reason she thinks I'm taking over her life or something. Her words cut deep and it's getting really hard to keep my sanity and be the bigger person." Her eyes tear up.
"What started all of this?"
"Just a uh...disagreement on a topic."
"Something to do with school or a boy maybe?"
"Something like that but I can't say I don't want to betray her like she already thinks I do. Just because she's being mean and what not doesn't mean I have to send that same vibe back but I know this will come to a end soon."
I always thought I was the parent my kids would come to and just talk. Uh these teenage years are killing me already and they just entered it. Figuring being in the house right now isn't gonna have her opening up. Since I need to make a quick run I asked Stanley to come with me. As I drove I noticed her tense body language.
Mona is a very spoiled girl...had been since she was born. Chris and I tried our best to raise her to be basically what she isn't right now. The last thing I wanted is her to be this cold hearted person but a parent can only do so much. At a certain age the child starts to make decisions on their own and eventually learn important life lessons.
"Do you think we took you in as charity?"
Stanley shyly shrugged. "I know you and my mom were at a time friends and when I was taken in by you guys it was because she went to jail."
"We don't get anything for having you. There's no government check or special privileges or anything like that. You became someone dear to both chris and I heart. I just couldn't stand back while you lost your mom and do nothing about it. Both Chris and I love you so much Stanley please believe that."
"I try I swear I do but. When we're all together you know everyone sometime I just can't help knowing that this isn't my family. No one is related to me and then I get people reminding me daily. I hate feeling that I do not belong here."
So much I did not know. Who is bullying my child.
"We may not be blood related but I treat you the same way I do to those I pushed out. I have the same love for you I care about you and hate that you've been feeling this way. Why didn't you come to anyone sooner?"
"I caused enough trouble behind the papers....I didn't want to seem ungrateful for what you and dad I mean Chris did for me."
"You still call us mom and dad regardless what Mona says. I just wish I knew what was behind all this. What are you holding for her is it the boy she's interested in? What does she have against you that's making you shy back and allow her to disrespect you like this? I can tell you now not that I want this to happen with you two but me and Rebecca almost dropped our entire friendship we even fought. At the end of the day if you really love her you should do what's right no matter how she's feels about the truth."
She looked at me then down to her hands. This situation is making me real nervous because I'm starting to think it's not just the boy or whatever had Mona acting up. It's all starting to look like something more serious than I thought and I'm scared to find out the truth. I'm not emotionally ready for whatever storm is coming.
As I pull into the grocery store parking lot finding a good enough spot I turn off the car.
"I like Julian." She said before I reached for the door handle. "And he likes me back....we confessed this to each other and we agreed to not fully take in a relationship but have an understanding."
"Oh...ok."
"Mona said if I spoke on her business she would tell someone and get me sent to be with another family since it is frowned on for foster kids and members of their foster family to be together." She wiped her face fumbling with her fingers a nervous habit of her's. "I don't want to lose you guys."
"You won't and that's something I can promise." ******* Finishing the last braid I sigh standing from my mirror. Chris groans walking into our room fall face first on the bed. Being the great husband he is he put the twins to bed after feeding and bathing both.
"Why did we have two more after the last one?"
Smiling I grab one of his lotions sitting on his butt. "Because someone doesn't like to use condoms and can't seem to keep his baby supplier under control."
Working the lotion into my hands they rub onto his bare back. His deep slow breaths and occasional grunts let me know I'm doing good.
"I blame you and that gold between your thighs. It's not my fault you stay tight and moist all these years."
"Uh shut up with your dirty talk and turn over." I was now sitting facing him. "What did you and Maurice do earlier?"
"I just wanted to spend some time with him. We played some ball at the academy messed around in one of the recording studios it was fun."
"Well that was nice what made you wanna do that?"
His hands squeeze my thighs as mind rub on his pecks. He has kept his nice toned body and I love it.
"After talking with Carlton I thought I could take some of my own advise especially with the kids. I'm taking Maliki with me to work tomorrow see what I can get out of him cause you know he's getting older and I wanna get some good advise in him now."
Looking at my husband is my favorite thing to do. This man is my everything my life was changed for the better with him with. I have my kids because of him my career turned in a better direction with his help.
"Your such a great father." He chuckled deep. "I'm serious baby you really are."
"Well they say behind a great man is a greater woman. If I'm great then you are the worlds greatest."
I couldn't help the pink faded color on my cheeks.
"I guess personally I think I could use some work in the parenting department. I mean lately I feel so left out with the girls. Did you know their basically not sisters anymore at lease on Mona's end."
He frowned sitting up keeping me on him. "Nah what you mean?"
"Their going through some kind of loyalty thing like me and Rebecca back then. Someone is in Mona's head and she's turned on Stanley. Earlier she asked why we allow Stanley to call us mom and dad because she's not our daughter and then called her the charity we brought in."
This is such a horrible situation. Being that I've been through something serious like this I know the odds of a good out come is very slim. Mona is so much like me I just know it'll take something drastic to open her stubborn eyes.
"So it's like you and devin? Stanley must be warning her about this person whoever the hell is it and Mona isn't listening...all I know is it better not be some ugly knuckle head boy."
"Their at that age baby it probably is a boy." He sigh rolling his eyes. "I didn't think we would have to go through this so...early their only fourteen. Baby Stanley thinks she doesn't belong here like she's some outsider. What can we do to convince her it's nothing like that...I know I've said this a million maybe a billion times but I love that girl like I birthed her and this hurts that she's feeling like this and we're just now finding out."
Seeing me getting emotional he pulled me in kissing my head.
"Relax we can get through this just like we get through everything else. We've raised amazing girls this is just something they are going through. It's sad to see them so distant and not like themselves but baby all we can do is parent and let them work things out. If they don't come to us we can't help but they'll be back to normal in no time. Mona has to learn her lesson just like you did."
"I didn't want her to have to...I almost lost my best friend and sister from something just like this. My girls shouldn't be going through this!"
"Yo se lo se baby....it's gonna be ok." *I know I know baby* "Come on we gotta get you relaxed. Let me give you a massage."
Laying on my stomach I hear him rubbing his hands together. "Ok but no funny business."
Laughing he started on my lower back. "Yeah....right."
Rebecca
"Why did you schedule this appointment so early."
Rolling my eyes I slip my shades over them stepping out our car. "So neither of us could back out for anything work related."
"You mean me? These shady comments gotta stop Rebecca foreal babe."
After signing us in I lead to some open seats. "One I'm not being shady not everything is some kind of blow to you and second your not the only one who works so I could've been talking about myself. Stop being so selfish not everything is about you Carlton."
It's way to early for BS right now and I really would rather not go in with us arguing already.
"I'm not you started it with the petty comments it's not my fault-"
"But it is because you took it the way you wanted to. I'm really not trynna argue right now Carlton seriously...relax for once."
"There you go again."
Imma kill him.
"Mr and Mrs Willis? Follow me please." The receptionist says with a bright smile.
We sit in the two chairs opposite of the doctor. "Welcome how are you guys this morning?"
"I'm great my wife seems to be feeling a little shady but what's new?"
Cutting my eyes I sigh out my nose putting on a smile to the therapist. "I'm also great my husband may think I'm being shady but that's understandable with the lonely dark nights I've spent in our bed alone. I guess it's just grown on me."
"Wow getting right things huh? Why don't we get to why we are here today."
"We need to work on communication in our marriage." I say crossing my legs.
"Ok that's normal. Marriage is never easy two different souls coming together as one will bring complications. Now how long have you two been married?"
"11 years we got married the same year our first child was born."
Nodding she writes in her note pad. "So you say communication is an issue? What was it that stopped it in the first place."
"Work for the both of us started to...pick up. Scheduled dates would get pushed back so it just wasn't the same."
"Mr Willis you haven't said much if anything just yet."
He sighed slouching. "It's to early for all this for me."
Me rolling my eyes caught the therapist attention. "Problem?"
"Yes him. This is suppose to be helping us but timing is getting in the way of us getting our marriage back on track. So you'd rather be sleeping than being here saving eleven years worth of love and emotions problems and two freaking kids."
"Excuse me for being tired Rebecca!"
"Ok ok let's just calm down. I don't want things getting to far ahead." The doctor says yet gets ignore by us both.
"I do what I do for her so she can live comfortable without a want in the world but all I get in return is nagging! Constantly every got damn day soon as I get home."
"Reminding you of the family YOU HELPED ME CREATE NEEDS YOU IS NOT ME NAGGING YOU! That is me loving you and staying by your side supporting your career over my own. This producing job has gotten into your head I don't even know who you are most of the time."
Chuckling he stood ruffling his hair. "I'm doing this shit for you and it's like you don't even recognize me trying."
"How is not speaking trying Carlton? Yes it was my idea but remember you said and I quote "if that's what you think we need I'm all for it". Was it a lie or just something to get me quite?"
He shook his head starting to pace the room.
"Ok I see where the root is and I'm more than sure we can work things out between you two in no time. Mr.Willis could you come sit back down please."
He looks at me slowly coming and taking his seat again. The doctor hands me a tissue to wipe away tear I didn't even notice had started falling.
"If I can I'd just like to first say that this step you all are taking coming to a complete stranger bringing them into your personal life is big. So many people have taken up a defensive strategy of keeping problems small or big bottled up inside letting them grow to a point where they explode at any random time. It's clear as can be the love you two have still blooming and very much fresh."
We look at each other loosening our bodies relaxing into the leather seats.
"My job will be to just be the voice of reason to help you come to a happier ending together. In the end I can guarantee as a team we can get you all back to that honeymoon stage in the relationship." She smiled before standing. "Now there was a study that shows the consumption of alcohol can cause a uh word vomit as it is effect. Loosen you up and let how you truly feel be known by word or mouth. Since the saying is drunken words and sober thoughts....but I'm not going to try and get you guys drunk."
She goes to a cabinet taking out to two crystal glasses. "So vodka or rum?"
