Ok y’all if you thought 18x05 was long, you in for a trip. Get ready for lots of caps, lots of not PG-13, and lots of overanalysis. I hope this lives up to the hype since it took me forever and a day (literally almost every minute of the 20 minutes of scenes took practically an hour to breakdown, I have a problem I know). Anyways, let’s get sweaty under the cut because the day ain’t young no more 👇🏼

Their bickering in the car but Nick smiling the whole time is a huge married vibe but also he’s so happy she’s alive and will take any shit she gives him vibe and I’m here for it. Pluuuuus Ellie avoiding nicks question about the phone call 😭 he’s so freaking concerned for her (he’s been through his own version of PTSD), his voice drops all the teasing and he actually opens up a little bit - really wants to make sure she’s ok. He needs to be there for her and ugh poor Ellie, those walls are going back up after that hug- a momentary lapse in her usual self. She’s so far outside of her comfort zone talking about feelings and weaknesses and she immediately deflects. Nick respecting that deflection is also huge growth for him, knows it’s not ok to push through like a person like him would normally do and force her hand. He knows she needs space but also clearly ready to be that ear to listen or shoulder to cry on whenever she needs it.

His joke about notable mustaches only to be the butt of the joke about using the word notable later is hiiiiiilarious.

Her comment about Zillow 😂 um excuse me ellie you looking for houses and to settle down 👀 but then(!!) Nick pushes her down the stairs first when shots start, getting her out of harm’s way and putting himself in danger like he always does my heart 😩 like he’s still on the stairs by the time she’s in a cell “safe.” And side note damn they are good shots, oof.

The toilet bowl scene is easily one of my favorites. Nick freaking out over Ellie moving hers and him not being able to had me DYING. Like legit cackling over his worry she’s suddenly way stronger than him 🤣🤣 and then he gets SO pissed they took their car hahaha like so mad he hugs the damn wall in frustration. But then he claims he’ll rip out the bars of the window (you know, to make up for not being able to move his toilet and still prove he’s macho) and Ellie’s comment about superhuman strength & his agreement LOL. His anxiety level of being trapped and more so Ellie being trapped is getting to him already. He is reaching for any possible way to get them (read: her) out of there safely it doesn’t matter that the plan sounds outrageous. Cue him moving back to pissed and breaking the toilet with his damn foot like 🥵 we get you strong Nick but no need to show off. Hot damn. His “I really think we’re stuck in here” after that IDK why but had be laughing again. I’m pretty sure I said “no shit Sherlock” at my TV watching live because thank you Captain Obvious.

Aaaaaand then when she pauses and finds the bomb bricks but goes so quiet oooooof he’s on high alert. You can practically hear his heart pounding and then he goes and starts panicking slightly when she doesn’t respond with our first use of a first name, “Ellie we have a wall between us, what is it?” But his tone is so frantic and his eyes are darting around putting the whole picture together and my heart aches for him. He’s starting to realize just how helpless he is to save her. The exact thing he likely swore he’d set out to never let happen again (Ellie in danger) after last episode, is happening again. And this time, it’s not like he can go hunt the guys down, he’s quite literally stuck. Helpless with no way out. Aaand here’s where Nick starts to lose his patience. Pissed at himself for not saving her before, not being able to save her now. Pissed at everything. He cannot comprehend how she is in this situation AGAIN and he can do nothing. But oh lord, he doesn’t even realize it’s about to get worse...

Him brooding over this crappy situation in a corner and being the cautious one is so unlike him (but also so telling as to how unnerved he is by her being in danger once again and not wanting to do anything to make it worse) and Ellie calls him on being “so careful, cowboy” and hot damn again she really does like a man in uniform doesn’t she??? 👀🔥 and she not picky on the type of uniform either 😏 but Nick immediately deflects because he’s not *quite* ready to talk feelings so let’s get down to business about counting bullets BUT the second Ellie starts to worry again he goes into hyperdrive protective and caring boyfriend partner. Without hesitation he tells her they’re going to figure it out because goddamnit he HAS to figure this out for her. He can’t fail, again. And he’s so so SO worried about her & her mental health right now and I sincerely love it. I know Ellie doesn’t want to have that conversation but I stan (I can’t believe I’m using that word, I’m not hip enough for that word) an empathetic boyfriend who supports their significant other when facing mental health issues (like PTSD in Ellie’s case) ❤️❤️❤️ Nick breaks my heart, he wants to be there for her- wants to be the one she feels comfortable enough to open up to and he just gets so dejected when she rejects his probing again (but I don’t blame her, it’s *hard* to open up about these difficult topics), his body language slumped over the bars and tone is just so defeated even if he tries to snap back into his usual Torres self (newsflash it ain’t working bruv because she’s not totally wrong in calling you hovery). Yet naturally he gets annoyed because he JUST CARES ELLIE DAMMIT LET HIM CARE. Like you go through this entire list of him trying to protect you from everything that could go wrong because HE CARES. HE WAS TERRIFIED HE LOST YOU ELLIE. HE TRULY THOUGHT HE’D NEVER SEE YOU AGAIN. NEVER TOUCH YOU AGAIN. NEVER TELL YOU HE LOVES YOU. HE CARES. AND HE CANT LET ANYTHING HAPPEN TO YOU AGAIN. HE LITERALLY WANTS TO SAVE YOU (his own words because god damn this show plays with my emotions 😭😭) FROM ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING BECAUSE HE COULDN’T SAVE YOU FROM GETTING KIDNAPPED AND HAVING TO FIGHT YOUR WAY OUT OF A PLANE RIGGED TO BLOW. Ok done with yelling for now but man this part gets me. The implications are so important even over trivial stuff. He felt helpless and Nick Torres cannot do helpless, so he tries do to everything else in his power to keep her away from any danger no matter how little it seems. Even hot coffee is too much for his precious babe and while he knows she’s not some delicate, fragile flower- he knows she can hold her own (& has called her a badass as proof), his heart can’t possibly take another explosion on an airstrip. Even if that airstrip is something like a burnt tongue. Ok I die now 😩😩😩

But let’s come back to living because this bullshit Nick “I always tell you what’s going on with me...you ask I tell you” exCUSE ME. Is this the same man who claimed he was being overprotective and that Ellie was like a sister to him?!???!! Yeah, I call bullSHIT that you tell Ellie what’s going on with you. (And Ellie calls BS too, btw buddy).

But when Ellie finally decides to open a little I love it. I think she finally understood at least just a bit that he just, simply cares about her & her well-being. So she gives him a tiny taste of what she’s going through. And god Nick’s face when he understands the gravity of what she’s having to face mentally. Like I know he knew but I don’t think he knew just how bad. And you can just see that hatred towards his perceived failure turning inward once again as the mood shifts in these cells to somber. Plus Ellies last comment here with them *needing* to find a way out of there- girrrrrrrl poor baby girl 😭 she’s struggling so hard right now and trying so hard to not let it show and not let it get to her but you know she’s terrified. You know she’s desperately triggered. UGH Ellie 💔💔

We cut to Ellie desperately trying to figure out a solution to getting the fuck outta there and once again my heart aches for her triggered self. Nick seems desolate and frustrated, shutting down slowly as it seems less and less likely they’ll get out. Buuuuut then the GUM. Ahahahahahah Ellieeeeeee how do you know about that last piece of gum for “breath emergencies”??? AHHHH this man’s jeans are so damn tight (& yes trust me I would know, I observe) but like also you staring at a spot on said tight jeans that’s only maybe five inches from a different outline 👀👀👀 GIRL I FEEL YOUUUU. GET. IT. Plus she knows exactly what he calls it and I freaking love that. His excuse for why he has to save it is also hilarious 🤣 his breath emergency later hmmm doubt you wanted to save it to MacGyver something Nick sooooo you got another thing in mind?? 😏 and then LMAO it’s mushy because his pants are sweaty I’m rolllllling. Your pants too tight Nick? (this is not humanly possible btw) ALSO is this why later Ellie says she expected Nick to be more sweaty??? If it is and now rewatching I kind of feel like it is, omg what a great callback on her part 🤣🤣

Nick trying to coach her on the proper way of opening the cell door is hilarious because bitch which one of you was able to move their toilet Nick 👀😂 but oh damn now it’s when shit goes downhill fast.

Nick not being able to see anything and his frantic questioning is amazing compared to Ellies absolute panic realizing she is once again facing down a bomb. I feel like her calming breaths are a coping technique Jack has been helping her with but man kill me now, Nick’s face?? When he realizes what he thought was helplessness earlier has just shot yo exponentially??? Oof with a capital O. This poor man needs a damn drink and yet all he can have is a club soda boy I *feel you* on that (side note #letsgetthisbabyoutmybellyasap). His woman has gone and gotten herself into another bomb encounter for the second time in a week. And he CANT DO A DAMN THING ABOUT IT. Can you imagine the absolute inner (and outer, give it a sec) freak out he’s having?? He wants to save her from hot coffee for Christ’s sake and now he can’t save her from a rigged bomb. Talk about a shitty situation.

I just love the Torres Teachable Moment little discussion. Like Nick’s smirk gets me. I really don’t think he knew she had a name for it or realized that she caught on to what he was doing (trying to help her grow as an agent without being obvious or “degrading��). And then we move on to comparing arm length and I crack up 😂 “my arms are longer than yours” and “no they’re disproportionately short for your body” HAHAHA like what the hell have you guys been doing to know this?? Do you stand *that* close together with your arms down to know their lengths comparatively and how much do you stare at Nick, Ellie? Daaaaaaamn. From his gum to his arms to his body I see you 👀 I’m not hating tho I would too 😏 I think what I loved most about this whole jail scene (aside the ending obvs) is the quick flipping back and forth from joking & teasing to dead serious & worried. Like they’re both trying so hard to keep it above board and light- trying desperately not to think of the implications of what’s happening but then (usually Nick) those intrusive thoughts sneak through and he can’t help but redirect them back to serious. It shows their inner warrings with themselves and just how hard this is for both of them. How much they want to appear strong and unflappable but they both know deep down the whole situation is eating away at them. And Nick bringing up her standing on a bomb only moments before he tells her he’s going to shoot the wall- OOF. Ellie’s genuine terror for him injuring himself and her then not being able to do a damn thing about it because she’s standing on a FREAKING BOMB is so painful to watch. Like she’s stuttering she can’t get it out fast enough, she needs to stop him, she can’t fathom him getting hurt while she’s helpless (uh, hello there theme of the episode how have you been). Nick’s facial expressions through this scene are also so telling. He goes from “this isn’t a big deal” to “oh shit she’s panicking” to “holy shit is she going to open up, is she really talking about this” to “fuck it’s my fault she had to go through that and it’s tearing me up inside every second” to “hooooooly fuck is she about to say what I think she’s about to say?? Is she about to confirm what I know deep inside but am too afraid to say aloud?? Is it true??” And ELLIE OH ELLIE. Reliving that *has* to be hard, has to. To finally bring it up after she’s been dodging it all damn day...you know the thought of him getting seriously injured had her more than rattled. And she cracks open those cement walls around her heart so briefly, the glimpse in it provides I think a turning point for Nick. Finally seeing that it’s not just him, she’s in deep too. Even if she can’t say it, can’t say she was fighting to see him again 😩💔 he knows. She says he only has one bullet left and to save it and they’ll figure some other way with tears in her eyes my HEART. But Nick gets it. Nick gets it because he’s been in the exact same situation. His eyes as they process the implication of her words and the fear for his life running through them 🥺 his simple “ok” is so unlike his normal self, you just know he’s once again doing anything and everything he can for. Even if that means standing down and not fighting for his way (the natural instinct for him). He knows what she needs is reassurance he won’t accidentally shoot himself. So he does it 😭 But him pacing (as a man of action suddenly faced with forced inaction) & Ellie begging for an inventory over and over (a woman of logics and data faced with PTSD) is so painful. You can tell they’re both struggling and neither wants to admit it but also they both need to do something - for Nick that becomes finally deciding to shoot a foothold in the wall and for Ellie that meant trying to go over their facts again and again but suddenly she’s once again terrified Nick is going to injure himself. The one man she fought to see again might hurt or even kill himself and she can’t do a damn thing because she’s standing on a bomb for fuck’s sake. Aaaaaaand cue the blow up. Cue Nick voicing his worst fears of Ellie accidentally triggering the bomb. Cue Ellie getting defensive because she’s so damn used to be babied and treated like she can’t take care of herself. Cue the “overprotective hovery man crap” line that had me rolling on the floor (tbt ROFL). Cue Ellie calling herself a girl but Nick calling her a woman like DAMN get me where it hurts Nick- that right there is a man who respects the living hell out of this fiiiiiiine representation of a woman in front of him 🔥. Cue Ellie saying because I’m “me” like um FUCK YES IT’S BECAUSE YOU’RE YOU AND HE’S TOO SCARED OF LOSING YOU ELLIE. Cue Nick finally losing his shit and getting reeeeeealllllllll like hallelujah do you hear the church bells?! Even Ellie knows to finally pause and listen. Nick never loses it on her, never. She knows this shift is serious and it’s happening. And omg his confession can I just have a moment of silence for the GROWTH.

Thank you, it needed commemorating. The same Nick who didn’t belong to a team is the Nick that is out here claiming he can’t sit idly by while the love of his life might get blown up again. He’s NOT OKAY WITH THAT AND NEITHER AM I. NOT AFTER THIS GODDAMN SCENE. His head bob accentuating just- how- important this is to him is so in character (thank you Wilmer) and theeeeeeen shoot me the way he has to fucking collect himself from almost crying. The emotion- there just aren’t words. Literally he has to look up to the sky and blink back those tears you know are threatening to fall at the thought of the woman who he still *technically* hasn’t told that he loves her could potentially die, again, for the second time in a week. So guess the hell what? He’s telling her (sort of). He’s telling her he would do anything, anything, put himself in danger’s way if it meant there was even the tiniest chance it would save her. Pardon the callback but- HE WOULD RISK HIS LIFE TO SAVE HERS. DON’T YOU REMEMBER ELLIE. YOU SAID I KNOW. DO YOU KNOW NOW. DO YOU. BECAUSE GOOD LORD CAN YOU MARRY THIS MAN ALREADY BEFORE I DIVORCE MY HUSBAND AND DO IT (jk love you honey 😘). But like damn, she knows it now. That look- she bites her lip and has tears in her own eyes at the realness she can feel even through a cement block wall. It’s a feeling she’s not used to. She isn’t used to being a person someone would literally risk death for. She doesn’t think she deserves it (sip on that like whiskey, mull it over, let it sink in & cry about it). Even if she knows she doesn’t need saving (and so does Nick), she finally realizes it isn’t about that. It isn’t about he feels like she can’t do it. It’s about the overwhelming pull that your life isn’t greater than the one you love. That love, real true love, is knowing you would do anything for that other person (and they the same) because the world would be worse off without them in it. And Nick will never be okay with a world without Ellie. Never. Their joint quiet after his confession is so powerful. There’s no claims of falsehood, there’s no trying to quip back at him, there’s no trying to stop him. It just settles into the room- into their hearts. They’ve crossed a line and it means so, so much. Nick can feel a weight lifted off his shoulders as he loads his gun and gets ready and Ellie can feel a weight settle on hers from the need to reciprocate. And not out of pity, it would be out of truth. But she knows it isn’t the right time. She knows she has to do it, and she will. She held back earlier when she couldn’t say she was fighting for Nick, but his outburst and confession gave her the courage in this scene. She finally has confirmation she means to him like he means to her. And she has to know, she has to know if he means it or if it was heat of the moment so when the dust settles she inquires, “what’s going on over there?” A pulse check. A way of asking without asking—did you mean that? And the shock of confirmation of her face as Nick, dead as a doornail serious says, “close calls make you live harder”….holy hell. That’s the moment it snaps for her, everything snaps into place—the agony he’s gone through not only this week, but the past couple years of close calls. He’s done beating around the bush, he’s living harder, he’s going all in, he’s getting what he wants. He refuses to let anything like a damn jail cell rigged to blow stand in his way. And she knows, she knows just how important she is to him. He might not have said those three words, but that phrase- that phrase was a direct window into Nick Torres’ soul. And by god I love it.

But Nick pulling a prank on Ellie like that is also so Nick- the little shit. The genuine concern in her voice when she yells his name 😭 like dude, her worst fear, something causing ongoing trauma in her head right now is the ONE THING you decide to tease her with??? I should expect nothing less but damn that’s low 😂 her checking on his status update with Gibbs though feels like such a role reversal from earlier and it cracks me up, side note.

When they’re getting ready to stand down the returning brother and Nick gets in position next to the wall but can’t even look ahead- he’s just staring at Ellie, oof. In that moment he’s brutally and painfully aware she can’t hide for cover. Not only can she not hide, he can’t cover her because he’s (locked in a cell but also) out of bullets. He’s once again near helpless and the woman he loves (and has now finally kind of told) is a sitting duck. Someone get this poor man a damn club soda, I repeat.

And the little talk between the two parties- I love that Ellie takes point. Love that Nick lets her. Like damn that’s a supportive partner right there and I 👏🏼 AM 👏🏼 HERE 👏🏼 FOR 👏🏼 IT. He knows she can handle this shit and he will willingly let her. But nooooooowwwww weee gettinggggg to the goooooood paaaaaaart.

Ok first, “good to see you” - this man has missed her face. Straight up dying to see her in the flesh. Just listening to her voice and not seeing the emotions written on her face is not enough. Seeing her alive, smiling at him, he needed it. But of course, let’s keep it light, act natural Nicholas.

“I thought you’d be sweatier” - excUUUUSE ME ELLIE. Not only did you just call out his reference to his sweaty jeans earlier, you also WANT TO SEE HIM SWEATY DON’T YOU. THAT SMIRK SAYS YES DON’T LIE. And honestly, I don’t blame you shhhhh.

“The day is young” - can I get another excUUUUSE ME NICK. Words- they don’t- function. Because that knowing smile of hers- SHE’S OKAY WITH IT. GET YOUR MIND OUT THE GUTTER YOU TWO THERE’S A HOMICIDAL MAN UPSTAIRS. YOU’VE GOT TIME TO GET SWEATY TOGETHER TONIGHT YOU HEAR ME. THAT DAY IS YOUNG AND SO ARE YOU SO GET THOSE BRICKS AND THEN YOU CAN GET TO BANGING LATER. I just fucking can’t with their smirks. I can’t. This isn’t the normal banter, this is the fuck me banter and I’m okay with it. Because right after the I-wanna-get-in-your-sweaty-jeans banter we have Ellie putting her HAND ON HIS GD HIP AS HE PASSES ONLY TO MOVE UP TO BOTH SHOULDERS. AND THEEEEEEEN HOLY HELL SOMEONE LIGHT A MATCH BECAUSE THIS BITCH ABOUT TO EXPLODE FROM SEXUAL TENSION. Is it possible to rewatch this scene a thousand times in slo-mo and still not have watched it enough? Because that is me. That will always be me. How are they so in tandem, so in sync as they look up mere inches from each other- directly into the other’s eyes knowing exactly how serious this situation is and yet pausing to freaking gaze longingly (read: have eye sex) at each other. And I’m sorry Nick looks down at her lips like three times??? For a good while too?? Sir nothing you said required you to look there. nothing. And also there’s no way his hands aren’t on her I thiiiiiiink they’re on her upper arms (based on the last shot as he’s walking to get the bricks) but like hold her tight Nick please. Also while Ellie doesn’t look at his lips (in this scene) holy shit those are some come-hither eyes if I’ve ever seen them. “I’m sure” ABOUT YOU. SHE’S SURE ABOUT YOU NICK. SHE’S SURE SHE’S READY TO GET SWEATY WITH YOU NICK. Like literally, this girl had been leaning up against the cement wall for a looooong time before he has to pass her and now, NOW that Nick has to pass her- SHE STANDS UP TALL. TO GIVE HIM NO SPACE. WHILE SHE’S STANDING ON A BOMB. BITCH YOU WANTED IT. That was a damn power move Ellie and I am not mad about it. She so easily could have leaned back, given him a ton of space to get around, but nooooooo she stands right there, middle of the tight opening and says yes Nick come get 1mm from my face, touch me here, touch me there, touch me everywhere don’t care 👀 while you pass. I’m sure I’m okay with it because you’ve just eye fucked me and it’s exactly what I wanted. And I mean come oooooooon just the underlying emotion behind both of their words. Nick isn’t just asking if she won’t move her foot- it’s his way of asking if she’s ok and she looks SO much better, more relaxed now that he’s with her. The tense, anxiety-ridden Ellie that was asking for inventory or snapping about him being overprotective, is now at ease despite still standing on said bomb- all because Nick is right there with her and if that doesn’t make you 🥺😭 I don’t know what will. Like she can’t even take her eyes off of him even after rude brother interrupts this gold moment of theirs until Nick has already completely turned his head towards the dude. She’s just so relieved to see him standing there, so close to her, feeling his warmth underneath her hands again.

Side note to prove my earlier point, when Nick casually reaches through to throw the bags of bricks through the door Ellie is leaning on the wall and THERE’S SO MUCH ROOM. HE COULD HAVE EASILY PASSED.

Nick looks like he literally wants to murder the guy, enraged that he’s the one who put Ellie in this situation again. We would’ve seen swan!Nick if it wasn’t for Ellie choosing this moment to finally share her feelings. Because remember- she’d decided she was going to reciprocate but knew it wouldn’t come off the right way before. Now’s the time. Now when the immediate threat to their lives is gone (excluding bomb of course). Now when they’re alone, they’re together, and she can look him in the eye so he knows she’s serious. He can read the truth in her eyes rather than doubt her words said across a jail cell wall.

“This isn’t about me, it’s about you” - well damn that got your attention didn’t it Nick??? So used to putting Ellie first, putting yourself second its weird to hear it come from someone else isn’t it? That someone is worried for your safety? That someone needs you living and breathing just as much as you need them doing the same? His eyes immediately change from Imma kill this man to did I just hear this woman right.

“I’m not okay with you getting blown up either” - first off, the parallelism is what makes this absolute *chef’s kiss* because Nick has literally zero chance of being blown up if he runs after this dude. Shot? Yes. But blown up? No. Ellie has chosen these words precisely to call back to what Nick said earlier. To make sure he’s aware she understood the weight of his earlier confession and is making the same one. They are on equal footing- their feelings are not only reciprocated but just as strong as the other. She could’ve said anything else but choosing his exact words was so poignant in the moment. It’s like the difference between saying “I love you” & “I love you too” compared to “I love you” & “I really care about you.” And the way she says it with such confidence, she isn’t playing around, she didn’t even *have* to bring up their previous conversation, she’s got determination etched across her face with a ghost of a smile on her lips. She means this, and it’s dying to bust out of her. And so the shock to Nick’s system is quite frankly understandable. This is Ellie - someone who hours ago didn’t even want to tell him who she was trying to make a phone call to. Ellie who has walls the size of Mt. Everest erected around her heart. Ellie who could have brushed off his earlier comments said from the safety of a cement wall between them. But no. This Ellie is all-in, she’s ready to own up to her side. She’s ready to lay it on the line just like him. Equal footing. If Nick is ready to jump, then so is she. And he’s just so taken aback- glancing at her lips, blinking through the shock as he processes. Processes the weight of her words on their relationship. He knows he could laugh it off, make a joke about his superhuman strength not allowing him to get blown up, or he could man up and take them both forward. Ellie doesn’t even flinch under his stare, if anything she becomes more confident, more resolute in her words and her stance. Her eyes searching his for what his reaction will be and for a brief moment I swear there’s a tiny bit of worry, a tiny bit of unease that he wasn’t ready for her to repeat his words back to him.

“Well, what are we gonna do about that?” Oh YOU HEARD. That smirrrrrrrrk Nicholas stop iiiiiit, Eleanor’s standing on a bomb you don’t need to light her on fire!! Because this is a challenge, a goddamn challenge. Staring straight into her soul saying, “oh you want me and I want you? How about we blow this popsicle stand and go get fucking sweaty ok? Because that’s what I want to do about that 👀🔥🔥🔥” and not only is the smirk sexy as hell but it’s also got this glint of elation. Like he could not be happier she said those words back to him. That he finally took Ziva’s advice, wasn’t a wuss and WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT IT PAID OFF. But his words also tell of a little nervousness. And not necessarily in a bad way, more as in a leaving it to her way. Putting her in the driver’s seat of this relationship knowing it’s where she’ll feel most comfortable. Given all she’s been through, like all of it not just the past week, he knows that she needs to be in control of how fast they move. And once again his chivalry and thoughtfulness of her is just- I cry. He doesn’t just assault her with what they should do next, he leaves it for her to decide. For her to weigh in on how far and how fast she wants to take them. And by the little shy smile Ellie gives him- she knows what he means. She knows her words have hit their mark and that he respects her enough to let her lead the way. And now she has to make her decision, a decision we DON’T GET TO SEE BUT I’M NOT BITTER IT’S FINE. But a decision nonetheless.

I honestly go two ways on this- the most obvious of hell yes they kissed right then and there and started *something* and then the bitter realistic one of they were probably interrupted by Gibbs (who was literally outside like right then based on timing) but also may have just continued to stare into each other’s eyes- still slightly taken aback by everything they just shared and what it means for them. Still unsure of how they “work” as people who *love* each other, not just partners. Having that reality sink in as they continue to face off and wait for a rescuer. That reality sinking in could lead to obviously very good things (that we better see on our screen or I will fucking riot) or a slight nervous closing-off. Like not quite closed off closed off, but a tiny retreat when the gravity of the day falls down on both of them. I don’t think either will believe they only said what they did because of the situation/moment they were in, but it’s still a lot to deal with after all is said and done. I sincerely hope they unpack this in the coming episodes and give us some direction of what happened after that jail cell scene.

I love the Torres told McGee about what happened today and I’m so curious about how much detail he told him lol but I also love that McGee has now received genuinely good advice from Torres twice now (the one about the reunion and now this). Just goes to show you the brotherly bond they have ❤️ but also that the advice was the same advice he literally lived out that day. Close calls make you live harder, almost as an affirmation to himself (Nick about what happened), but as something he knew McGee needed to hear too- they all do.

And then this bullpen scene - one, how far of a time jump is this and whyyyyyyy won’t they telllll meeeeee. They hate me. Two, Ellie coming over so close just to hand off a file that he doesn’t even look at 👀 three, THEIR SMIRKS. WHAT DO THEY MEAN. Because Nick is holding back the world’s biggest smile as Ellie gets close to him and Ellie is just all nonchalantly checking him out with a brief eye-sex scene. Like damn this fine man doesn’t want me to blow up and I don’t want him to blow up either 🔥 Now does this mean they absolutely got together and did the nasty after they got out of that cell? Of course not. We can only dream, and write fics. This ending scene is very reminiscent of what NCIS loves to do with their power of open-ended persuasion at the end of an ep, see On Fire for example. The ending music and comments combined with the shot of Gibbs leaving in the elevator is literally there to try and persuade you that he killed Xavier. In this ep, the ending music and voiceover combined with their looks at each other is there to try and persuade you they totally got it oooooon. Not to say they didn’t, but I don’t trust NCIS one damn bit.

All in all, cannot *wait* to see where they take ellick the rest of the season. Emily hyped this ep and man, she did NOT disappoint. Let’s see that shift that is going to ripple for the rest of the season now like Wilmer promised 🤞🏼

Oh and my only side note because this was insanely insanely long and if you’re still reading I’m proud of you for hanging in there with me & my screams into the void, send me an ask screaming back it’s ok I’ll love you for it—waaaas the whole team poking fun at Torres for using the word notable was downright hilarious. That and Gibbs trying to do everything himself, I can’t. Comedic gold. I love. I would go from dying of laughter to intense emotions so fast in this ep I got whiplash and for that, I am thankful to Gina. She always delivers 🔥

Absolutely no one asked for this or probably even wants this but I’m less than a hundred pages in to Fool’s Errand and Fitz and Beloved are already ruining me so I’m literally just going to make a note of every time they’re being super in love (even if Fitz is constantly obtuse and refuses to admit it) just for my own (in)sanity..

She also makes a direct comparison to Molly. Fitz foolishly thinks it’s about Starling but Beloved arrives soon after so we know its about them. HIS LOVE LINE GUYS!

“Your one true love is stitched in and out and through you life. Love will return to you.” You could interpret this as being about Molly as I think they end up getting back together after Burrich has died but I’m way more inclined to believe this is about the Fool. For one its the same witch says its right after the above. Fitz himself also dimises Molly. But mainly the phrasing. The White Prophet and his Catalyst are often described as being interwoven and bound together despite of any distance and time. Like the metaphors are parallel making me think this is about the Fool. Which means… Beloved is Fitz’s one true love! Guys can Robin Hobb just give me a fucking break please!

*a whole paragraph admiring a horse* “The rider was fully worthy of the horse.” He thinks his mans is fine ok!

At that gesture that said all I had no words for, an answering look lit his face.”Again he’s literally speechless but that doesn’t even matter the Fool can fully understand him. Soulmates don’t need such trivial things as language to communicate!

“He glowed as if a light had been kindled in him” Im sorry thats some romantic shit.

“He did not dismount but flung himself from his horse towards me.” Hi the Fool literally launched himself off a horses back into your arms!

“The horse shied away but none of us paid her any attention.” They’re so absorbed in each other.

“In one step i caught him up. I enfolded him in my arms as the wolf gambolled about us like a puppy.”

“Until the wolf insistently thrust himself between us.” Ok so not only would they have carried on clinging to each other if Nighteyes hadn’t have forced them apart but also the wolfs reaction is super fucking important as well. Like Nighteyes is Fitz’s Wit beast. He has never loved another person other than Fitz so loyally and without question. When he first meets the Fool he trusts him straight away and calls him pack long before anyone else. Fitz even gets jealous of their bond in the first trilogy until Nighteyes explains that why shouldn’t he trust and love someone so fiercely if Fitz already feels this way about them.

“…wiping away tears. I did not think less of him for them. My own ran unchecked down my face.” Urgh thank you Robin Hobb for letting men cry! But they are both so overcome with emotion and not ashamed or embarrassed to show the other person that they’ve been brought to tears by their reunion like wow they’re so in love.

“He flowed to his feet, every nuance of his grace as familiar to me as the drawing of breath.” He likens simply seeing the fool moving to something that is habitual and that sustains his life I-

“He cupped the back of my head and in his old way, pressed his brow to mine.” I would argue more tender than a chaste kiss.

“He stared at me, his eyes touching the white streak in my hair and running familiarly over the scares on my face. I stared just as avidly…” they’re drinking each other up after so many years apart committing each other to memory again.

“The wide grin that lit his face erased all years and distance between us.” something as simple as a smile can bring them right back together like they haven’t been separated for 15 years.

Love and the confirmation and realisation that you had never and would never truly be alone or lonely.

“It was a boys thing to do, this immediate offering to share a prized possession and my heart answered it, knowing that no matter how long or how far apart wed been nothing important had changed between us.” Like you might be men full grown now, having lived completely separate lives, not knowing each other for the last 15 years but your love is so pure it has not been marred by age or distance!

“I blinked my eyes and for a minute I was back in the Fool’s hut in the mountains, healing from my injury while he stood between me and the world” he remembers how the fool protected and shielded him and nursed him back to health.

Also he calls the Fool ‘the soul of the world’ how fucking beautiful is that. and the fool is so fucking happy that he could do that for him.

“We are whole.” This said by Nighteyes which I again think is super important. He feels the same about the Fool as he does about Fitz. And although him and Fitz are Wit bonded and him and the Fool not he does not feel that they have been truly complete without him.

“Like sundered pieces of crockery that snick back together so precisely that the crack becomes invisible, the Fool joined us and completed us.”

“The Fool’s presence was in itself an answer and satisfaction.”

“That evening remains for me always a moment to cherish as golden and fragrant as brandy in crystal glasses.”

“I stayed away from you as long as i could. he offered the words like an apology.’ He literally cant keep himself from fitz. “Any time that you returned to visit me would not have been too soo” And Fitz doesn’t want to be left alone Beloved he wants your company!

“Nighteyes and I spoke as we did was not an effort to exclude him from our circle. It was that our circle made us one in a fundamental way we could not share. ‘Yet once we did and it was good.’” Even the wolf wants them to all be joined again and share their thoughts and feelings!

I closed my eyes to steady myself against the temptation. ‘I want it as i want breath itself Fool take it away please.’” He is having to ask the Fool to remove the temptation because he wants that wholeness, that one’s again so badly but he knows it’s a bad idea. It is taking all his will to decline it and I think of the Fool offered again he wouldn’t be able to resist a again. Also this is the 2nd time he has likened the Fool to something as fundamental as breathing.

“‘I dreamed of you once. You were sick or injured. A man leaned over you, I felt he wanted to hurt you so I-’ ‘It’s quite likely ou saved my life.’” Even when the Fool was Amber and Fitz did not know her his subconscious was looking out for her and protecting her. He fucking skill pushed someone to leave her alone without even realising it was her.

“‘Sometimes when I was most alone I mocked myself that I could cling to such a hope. That I could believe I was so important to anyone that he would travel in his dreams to protect me.’ ‘You should have known better than that.’ I said quietly.” Ok so this hurts my heart a little because Fitz always denies that he loves the Fool the way in which he wants to be loved by Fitz. I mean I don’t think that’s true at all because their love is way more intense and intimate than any woman that Fitz has ever been with Molly included the only boundary between him and the Fool is sex which arguable we know Fitz doesn’t always think is related to love cos he slept with Starling. And it fucking kills me that when Amber was in her darkest place she clung on to the hope that Fitz did truest love her but at the same time laughed at herself cos Fitz himself had told them otherwise previously. And here he has the audacity to contradict her. Like how could you ever doubt it? Cos you told them to doubt it mate! Why are you so fucking obtuse Fitz!

“‘Should I?’ He gave me the most direct look I have ever received from him. I did not understand the hurt I saw in his eyes nor the hope. He needed something from me but I wasn’t sure what it was.” Urgh again Fitz is so blind! You just need to hold him and admit to him how much you love him get over yourself and your whole ‘I can’t love you like a man loves a woman’ bullshit cos like the Fool rightfully said you didn’t love Molly cos of what was under her skirts!

“‘Were you expecting me to leave tomorrow?’ ‘I thought you might I didn’t hope it.’ ‘That's good then for you could have hoped in vain.’” They’ve finally been reunited after so long and neither one of them wants to leave the other.

“I suddenly realised the immensity of what i had asked him … like all direct questions I had ever asked the fool I both dreaded and longed for the answer.” This just feels very fucking intimate to me lads sorry to say

“‘Good night Beloved we have been apart for too long.’” Umm the Fool fucking gave Fitz his own name. His true name that he had never told anyone. His name that his own mother called him. They’re gunna ruined me these two.

This is literally only the first chapter that they have been reunited in and my heart already can’t take it!!

“Love Not The World”

Where is your focus? Do you wake up everyday with your mind on this temporary life, giving all your thought to this world and the things in it and no time to your Creator? You know, GOD Almighty the one who made you, gave you everything you have, allowed you to wake up another day, etc etc. Are you so in love with this world and the things in it that you say you don’t have time for GOD? You know, “I don’t have time to read my bible”, “I don’t have time to attend church”. Not that attending church is necessary for you to be saved, but you sure need to know what’s written in that bible to be saved, because there is an eternal life after this temporary one! Let me tell you something about this world you love so much and are so obsessed with. The Holy Bible (a non-religious book, simply the Word of GOD) lets us know “The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he? Job 9:24 KJV and "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” Revelation 12:9 KJV. It also states.. “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” 2 Corinthians 4:4 KJV. So you better know who is running things on the earth right now and understand why there is so much violence and bad in the world.

Have you ever wondered why so much violence, vulgar language, and explicit media and music is in this world or even allowed to be aired to the public the way it is? Not to mention, children are exposed to this everyday. The media conditions you to think a certain way. For example, at one point most people thought it was disgusting that a man and a man, or a woman and woman were together; but now because of the media and lines put out there like, “love is love”, “no hate”, “gay pride”, etc. people believe it is now ok and more accepting of it. Now if you stand up for what is right and what is written in GOD’S Word then you are labeled as hating others. It doesn’t stop there, the media does the same thing with filling TV shows with lies, sex, vulgarity, nudity, violence, etc. making it seem like these things are normal and cool; all of which is clearly written in the Word of GOD that these things are sin. Are you beginning to see satan is behind all this yet? The media is controlled by the people on top, the elite; and just with a little research you will find that these people worship satan. But the Holy Bible let’s us know that already; remember what satan told Jesus Christ after He was baptized and led into the wilderness to fast…”Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.” Matthew 4:8-11 KJV

Look at all the things in the world that so easily take your mind off GOD; movies, tv series, activities, sports, relationships, social media, careers, schooling, your desires and goals, etc. etc. The list is never ending. SOME of the things mentioned above are not bad, but what is bad is that it completely takes your attention off of GOD and Jesus Christ. You also make time for all these things, right? However, still your excuse is I have no time for GOD. Let’s be honest, you make time for everything else, if you wanted to you could easily make time for GOD. Also how hard is it to read the bible during some of your down-time? When Jesus Christ came to die for our sins, He didn’t tell the Father GOD Almighty, I don’t have time to die for them; and THANK JESUS CHRIST for that!, else we would all be headed to hell with satan who is ruling this earth right now and deceiving you daily!

The world is wicked and offers you all types of sin and wickedness to get involved in. The majority of which, is fed to you through that TV aka “idiot box”, “tel-LIE-vision”, you’ve heard these terms before; cant say those terms are false. The bible tells us “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. 1 John 2:15-17 KJV. Thats surely true, if you don’t have time for GOD you surely do not love HIM. This earth is evil; filled with trials, pain, heartache, etc. Do you really think our Righteous Creator will have such things in HIS Kingdom in Heaven? Absolutely not!

It would be in your best interest to get curious about the ‘Word of GOD’ (the KJV King James Version Holy Bible) and open it up and learn how to be righteous so you will be worthy to make it into Heaven. You may also already know about Jesus Christ and that He died for your sins, but did you know simply believing that or going to church will not get you in the gates of Heaven, that there are things required of you? So open up the KJV Holy Bible and read for yourself, but for a head start, here is what you MUST know. Jesus Christ lets us know clearly in the KJV Holy Bible that in order to enter Heaven you MUST be baptized in water, a full body immersion; not sprinkled, etc. (John 3:5 KJV) When you do this you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit which without you also cannot get into the Kingdom of Heaven as Jesus Christ lets us know. You MUST be born again to get into the Kingdom of GOD (John 3:3 KJV), this means you have turned from your sins, all the things that are against GOD and live for Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:4 KJV) Your main focus will be obeying GOD and Jesus Christ and that’s exactly what you will now do in this life. That’s how you get into Heaven. So now some light has been shed on things for you. So no longer be deceived by the enemy satan by becoming lost in this world and the cares of this world. As Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV lets us know, "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”

“I want to come with you.” Newt said desperately.

“Absolutely not.” You said firmly. You didn’t know where the newfound confidence came from, perhaps because you and Newt had already had this conversation about a million times.

“Please let me come with you.” He said. You were looking at your feet, unable to look at him. You knew that if you did, you’d end up caving at the sight of his frightfully concerned face. Newt often wasn’t easy to read but he didn’t bother hiding his desperation now. You two were in your shared apartment in London doing something that rarely happened between the two of you, you were arguing.

“Newt, I said no.” You repeated, turning your back to him so you wouldn’t have to see his worried face. You could feel the tears building behind your eyes but you willed them to stay put. You were not going to cry. You wanted to show that you were strong and believed the decision you were making was a good one and tears would just turn you into a mess. They always did. You didn’t need Newt’s pity, you needed him to be safe and him coming with you tonight would most definitely put him in danger.

You and Newt had been dating for three months now and you could see that every full moon took a piece of his heart. He loved you and you loved him, so you knew seeing you in the state you were in after full moons was hard for him. You had, of course, tried telling him that he deserved someone better. Someone who wasn’t broken. Someone who wouldn’t hurt him every month. Someone who wasn’t you. Yet the stubborn magizoologist wouldn’t listen. And here you were again, about to hurt the man you loved.

This month was the first time he had brought this up though. A few weeks before the full moon, he had proposed the idea of coming with you when you transformed. You had told him that it was a firm no and he seemed to accept that, you had thought it was the end of the conversation. Until he brought it up again about a hundred times.

“Y/N, you can’t keep doing this alone. I could come and keep away the dangerous animals, I could come and try to keep you safe.” He begged. You whirled around, incredulity clear on your face. You couldn’t believe him. How could he just stand there, in all his messy haired, loose shirted glory and say that?

“Keep me safe? Me? Who would keep you safe?” You said, your voice getting louder. You couldn’t remember a time when you had yelled at someone. It came as a shock, to both of you. The shy, quiet Y/N suddenly yelling? You couldn’t stop though. How could he say that? You didn’t deserve to be kept safe. You were a monster. Especially when in that state. A monster who wouldn’t think twice about hurting this kind, selfless, curious man.

“I can keep myself safe.” Newt said, his voice still at a normal level, quite unlike yours.

“You can’t keep both of us safe! You can’t be safe. Not from me! Not when I’m like that!” You felt tears streaming down your reddened cheeks. Of course you were crying. Of course you were. The word “weak” kept swimming through your mind. You wanted to run away, to curl up into a ball, to hide yourself from the world.

“I could stay away then. Away but close enough so that when the moon goes down I could help you home.” He argued, taking a step closer. His sudden proximity seemed to put an immediate damper on your anger. You now just stood there in silence as tears streamed down your face, looking at the ground. You hated arguing with him. It rarely happened but when it did, you couldn’t stand it. Newt noticed your silence and walked closer to you until you were staring at his bare feet instead of the ground.

He tentatively lifted your chin slightly so you would look into his bright green eyes. Newt normally refrained from making eye contact with people but with you, he felt safe to do it. You closed your eyes and leaned your forehead against his, savouring his touch, his scent, his love.

“I love you, Newt.” You whispered, eyes still closed. You didn’t dare talk louder in fear that your voice would break.

“I love you too, Y/N” He responded.

“Do you really love me?” You asked. You felt his forehead crease against yours, in worry most likely. Clenching your eyes tighter, you pursed your lips to keep from sobbing.

“I really love you.” He said. You opened your eyes finally, to find his, still wide, and resting upon yours unwaveringly. So much emotion filled those beautiful green eyes, you couldn’t look away.

“Then let me do this alone.” You whispered. Silver lined his eyes as he took a shaky breath.

“I have, Y/N, you have been doing this alone since you were bitten.” He said. You flinched at that word. Newt noticed this, he noticed everything. “Y/N, I love you and I cannot keep seeing you come home bleeding and bruised.” You pulled away from him, turning around so he couldn’t see your face.

“Is that really why you want to come?” You asked. This thought had been nagging at you since you got together. You wanted to dismiss it as absurd but why else would he be with you? Why else would he deal with all the issues and problems you bring?

“What do you mean?” He asked tentatively, not quite liking the new tone in your voice.

“Do you want to come to keep me safe? Are you with me because you love me? Or do you just want to study me?” You finally said it, the thought that had been eating away at you since the beginning.

Silence. He wasn’t answering. How long has it been since you asked the question? 10 seconds, 11 seconds, 12, 13. Why wasn’t he answering? Dread filled your stomach, maybe you were right. Maybe this horrible thought was true. You felt the lunch you and Newt had shared an hour ago coming up. You couldn’t take it anymore, you turned around slowly to face him.

If your lunch wasn’t rising before, it definitely was now. The sight before you brought on a new wave of tears, it felt as if one of Newt’s creatures had slashed right across your heart. Tears were flowing down Newt’s face, you had seen him show emotion before but never so raw. All of his walls were down, everything now stood so clearly before you. It was hurt that you saw.

Hurt that pushed down his slumped shoulders, that darkened his bright eyes, that covered his kind face. You were stupid. So, so stupid. You were frozen, frozen in shock or guilt, you didn’t know. The two of you simply stood, gazing at each other with such thick emotion hanging in the air, freezing you in place.

His broken, shaky breath was what snapped you from your paralysis. You scrambled to get closer to him, to comfort him, but he took a step back. A step away from you. You couldn’t help but gasp. What have you done? Newt was always the one that cared and loved you no matter what. The one who would take one step closer to you when everyone else took two steps back. And you had doubted him, doubted his feelings for you. You were a monster.

“Newt, I’m sorry.” You said, staying where you were. He needed space and you would respect that. No matter how hard you had to restrain yourself to not run up to him, to not throw your arms around his tall frame, to not say I love you as many times as humanly possible. “I didn’t mean that. I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry. I love you. Please, Newt, I didn’t mean what I said.”

“Then why…then why did you?” He asked, no resentment or anger in the question just pain and sadness. A sob escaped your lips as you furiously tried to wipe your tears away.

“I-I don’t know. I just-I was too afraid that it might be true because what reason could there possibly be for someone like you to love someone like me. I’m a mistake and a complication and I’m sorry, Newt.” You cried, your words tumbling out of you in a pitiful mess. “I’m sorry.” You were shaking now, there were too many emotions running through your bones.

Panic at the inevitable pain that was drawing near, hate at yourself for everything you had done, guilt at what you had said to Newt and fear, fear that you may have actually screwed up the best thing that had ever happened to you. Before either of you could say anything else…

You ran.

You ran and you cried and you whispered one word to yourself, over and over and over again.

“Monster.”

The irresistible magician - Kunal Karan Kapoor

HReams and reams of articles have been written about this versatile actor by his adoring fans. I wonder what should I add more? Making an attempt to pen down my thoughts about this actor who has swept me off my feet. Making me a die hard fan of his.

It was in the year 2004 that I was introduced to Kunal Karan Kapoor as 'Varun' in remix. At that time I was so besotted by a chocolate faced hero. Despite of my loyalty to that actor I saw the spark in Kunal. And realised he was a good actor. Remix wrapped up. And I forgot him.

But destiny brought him back in my life again. This time as 'Cadet Yadhuvansh Sahni' aka 'Yudi' in the serial 'Left Right Left' aired on Sab TV. The sole reason for me to start watching the serial was the catchy title track. And Rajeev Khandelwal's presence. But slowly and surely I fell in love with all the other characters. And again had a soft corner for Kunal. Again there was a feeling that he is inordinately gifted and waiting to explode. There have been many memorable scenes from the serial. But time and again I go back to YouTube and watch Yudi's suicide attempt. The scene screamed for an encore and left me shaken.

Kunal's performance left me in awe. Still get goose bumps.

After LRL I became engrossed and busy completing my Masters. I had no time for TV. Though Kunal had made an impact on me.. As time passed by he kind of disappeared from my memory.

Professional commitments took me to Chennai and Delhi respectively. I deliberately didn't have access to television. Nothing worthwhile to watch. And all the serials were depressing and regressive.

July 2011 I was back in Mumbai. I settled down in my mundane boring life. Nothing exciting. Nothing to look forward to.

December 2011 was a turning point in my life. Going through the most troubled and emotional turmoil phase on my life. But someone up there had decided that he would be sending some one to me who would be a soothing balm to my troubled soul. And would bring back the smile, cheerfulness, happiness and zing back into my life.

Circa January 2012. I am lolling on the sofa. And there comes a trailer of a new serial 'Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha' that was going to turn my life upside down for ever. What caught my eye was the refreshing trailer( it didn't look like the regular run of a mill story.) The two adorable moppets caught my attention. The heroine didn't look like a overdressed Christmas tree. And there was the hero who looked like the regular boy next door. He looked familiar. I racked my brains trying to remember why did he look so familiar and pulled my heartstrings. And then it hit me that this is Yudi. And he was going to play the lead for the first time. And this is when my love, adoration, pagalpanti for this charismatic actor started.

NBTNMKK was on my agenda. I had made up my mind that I was going to watch it. Come what may. Episode one.. And Mr. Kunal Karan Kapoor vroomed into my life again. This time it was an adoration that would last for lifelong.. He was going to stay in my life for eternity. And I was to fall hopelessly in love with Kunal Karan Kapoor/ Mohan Bhatnagar..

What do I say about his talent. Words don't suffice. And I fall short of adjectives and expressions to praise him. You just need to watch him on screen to fall for his spell. And to be charmed by him. To understand why he is called 'King of expressions', 'Second to none', ' an actor in the truest sense'. Why do teens love him? Why do working professionals go insane for him? Why are tv viewers in their 40s and 50s completely smitten by him.?

A charming, most adorable face.. Eyes which speak thousand words.. and I am hopelessly drawn to them.. Go weak in my knees and become a gawky teenager whenever he is on screen. Detractors can say that I am smitten only by his looks. But good looks cannot hold viewers attention for a long time. Atleast not for me and for all Kunalian's. We were hungry to see a quality actor and Kunal was manna from heaven to us.

Devoid of model looks, 6 pack abs .. for me he is the sexiest man on planet earth. He makes me laugh, and cry. He brings loads of happiness in my life. My day starts with him and ends with him.

An actor extraordinaire and a humble human being. A deadly combo. So down to earth, no starry attitude, frank opinion, vulnerable, genuine love and affection for all his fans. How many actors can claim that they genuinely care for their fans? I cannot think of any. Kunal is truly an exception. A smile of his and my day/life is lit up.

8 months have elapsed since NBTNMKK winded up. But his popularity is spiralling through the roof. Fans are increasing in thousands. And everyone is screaming for his presence back on our TV screen. We are dead sure he will be back with a bang. With a role that will become more iconic then 'Mohan Bhatnagar'.

Just wanted to let you know Kunal that I love you a lot. You are truly special for me. I will remember you throughout my life. I want nothing but the best for you my rockstar. May God bestow all his blessings on you. May all your desires get fulfilled. You reach the pinnacle of success. And blessed with loads of happiness.

I am content watching your pics, edits, reruns of NBT/Pratigya. Please come back soon. No one has been able to fill the void in my life after you taking a break. Miss you lots, Waiting for you.

Thanks to Sonal Ganatra...for creating a character like Mohan... and also to Subrat Sinhaji for those mind blowing dialogues...and Kunal breathed in life to Mohan in such a way that Mohan is not a reel character any more..he's a real human being who's very very close to us... and I think...KKK is the biggest reason for NBT's Success. My 10 reasons for loving "The Kunal Karan Kapoor" : 1. The Rising : Looking back at his first role as Cadet Yaduvansh Sahni in Left Right Left, I can realize how far he has come. No doubt, he has portrayed every character with total dedication, but when I see today's Kunal - I feel he probably has had re-incarnation !! 2. Not just an actor : He defines himself as someone who dabbles at almost everything ( okay maybe, but for me you almost excel in everythng). And therefore it shows how well he 'uses' his urge to explore every side of himself. No constraints whatsoever. 3. Honesty : Give him a minute to define himself, he might just do it within seconds, or may end up saying nothing at all for minutes ! His honesty about himself is something to die for <3 4. Inspires millions : Call it a mere co-incidence or the influence of his own virtues to the role of Mohan Bhatnagar, but he has ended up being an inspiration ON-SCREEN as well as OFF-SCREEN for many many viewers. Whether Mohan influenced Kunal or Kunal influenced Mohan, its difficult to say. But whichever way it was - it TOUCHED LIVES :) 5. Make a wish! : Well, this is the message which this guy gives to me every second. I learnt it from Mohan (and ofcourse Kunal). Make a wish for yourself, and if intentions and dedication stand clean - you will definitely get it ! Such is the power of will. 6. His "Who cares" Attitude : His recognition as an actor happened very late looking at the number of roles he played before NBTNMKK. But he never cared because somewhere inside he believed in satisfying himself rather than others. He waited for the right opportunity to prove himself and here is the result - fans like me and thousand others love to write about him and capture his journey into success :) 7. Never Say Never - He might not be among those who shot to success right from the word GO! And personally speaking I was an ardent LRL viewer for a couple of months - but simply never cared to observe his role seriously. Reasons unknown. But he came back,,,back with an urge to impress me, you and who not ! 8. Dedication to work : Ok, I read that he fainted a couple of times on the sets during last days of NBT while he was ill. Well, this might not be really surprising for his fans. What inputs he gives to his role - like crying red-eyed with real emotions, shouting on top of his voice for aggressive scenes, shooting for whole day n night to complete schedules, and then finding time for interviews late in the night and interacting with fans on FB/ twitter for feedback....he does it all ! And if he can do it constantly for nine long months - then why discuss his fainting-on-the-set s occasions to prove his dedication ! 9. Student forever : He might be a teacher, an idol, an inspiration for many - but Kunal continues to be a learner forever. His every scene is one step ahead of the previous one. He strikes the chord of perfection virtually in every scene. But then again, he proves you wrong and brings up with a better stuff in the very next scene!!! 10. An Actor Arrives : I remember somebody wrote a wonderful atricle on Kunal with this same title. It described his acting self in a magical way. But for me - the journey of loving the actor in Kunal started weirdly from Detesting to Ignoring to Liking to Appreciating to Loving to Adoring like hell !!:)) During LRL, I felt that I would never see an actor in him. Well, that line still holds good - since I cant see just an actor in him. He is much more than that !! He will prove you wrong the very moment you define his limits as an actor. Yes! Kunal Karan Kapoor is indeed the epitome of PERFECTION ! This guy is simply the best in whatever he does ! His perfection reaching new heights with each n every scene he performs...he just sparks the screen on fire n leave us all speechless.....though he never lacks behind in winning our hearts with his mindblowing performance in each scene But today he gave us one more even a much huge n special reason to go just gaga over him... I never open any threads here...only reads others' n comments sometimes....its hardly 2 threads i have opened here... n that too because KKK/MB always forces me with his brilliant performances that I just couldn't resist myself.....n today again I'm here to do the same...weaken by my heart n soul...!! KKK was at the peak of brilliance in today's episode....!!! I just get amazed n amazed... impressed n impressed...n just impressed with this guy with every passing moment.. ! Emma woke up, Killian wound tightly around her still asleep. She looked out the window at the sunshine peeking in and let her thoughts wander. She would phone the doctor this morning, and she wanted to tell Killian about her idea, something that she believed would make her feel like she had a purpose. She smiled at the thought, imagining the shops on main street that she noticed, but Killian would know who to ask about availability.

Killian blinked awake and nuzzled into Emma’s neck. “I can hear those thoughts love” he said sleepily.

Emma rolled into his arms to face him. “Morning” she said and lightly pushed his hair back over his forehead.

“So, what are you thinking Swan?” he asked her and smoothed her curls over her shoulder.

“I was thinking of what I want, what I want here for me.” She said quietly.

Killian eyed her, “what do you mean love?”

Emma sighed softly and looked up at him nervously. “I think that I want to open a school. To teach singing and dancing, for the kids in town.” She said and her cheeks blushed.

Killian grinned at her, “I think that is a fantastic idea angel. Are you sure?”

She shook her head, “not entirely, but I need purpose. I need something that is mine, that I am passionate about, and I know you will work eventually, but I cant sit still this long.” She said sounding hopeful.

Killian nodded, “Then we will find you a space love. I know a few places that may be perfect.” He said supportively.

Emma nodded, “Can we afford it?”

“Absolutely Swan.” He kissed her forehead.

“I am going to call the doctor this morning, ask for an appointment.” She said still gazing at him, and he nodded.

“I think that’s also a good idea, just so we know for sure either way.” He said that little ball of hope squeezing in his heart. “It will be ok either way love, I promise. I won’t be sad if you aren’t, and I will be delighted if you are, but there is absolutely no pressure from me to make this happen faster” he said and ran his knuckles over her cheek.

Emma nodded, “I hope I am” she said quietly.

Killian nodded, and leaned over to look at the clock. “They open in a few moments, Dr. Astrid is a lovely physician there, she has been mine since I arrived.” Emma looked at him with wide eyes and laughed.

“You have an actual physician?” she laughed again.

He nodded, “After New York I wanted to take care of myself better, make sure I was healthier. As you noticed I rarely smoke at all anymore, Astrid said it was bad for me, so I quit.”

Emma rolled her eyes, “Dr. Astrid it is then. Will you come with me when I go?” and he nodded right away.

“I’m scared” she said.

“Don’t be, either way we have each other and that is more than I would ever ask for. If we created a life together, growing inside of you, then that is simply a gift we would be blessed with Emma.”

She nodded, “Ok. I am hungry” and her stomach chose that moment to growl. Killian laughed and rolled up off the bed. “Well then it is my duty to feed my wife” he said strolling down the hallway.

Emma sighed and got out of bed and washed up. It was nearing nine, so she phoned the number in the telephone book. The lady on the phone offered her an appointment later that day, and she asked her to hold a moment. “Killian, they have one for this afternoon, shall I take it?” she asked him.

He nodded, “Absolutely.”

Emma wrote down the time, her stomach flip flopping in nerves. She sat at the table and began nibbling on some toast when Killian set a cup of cocoa in front of her. She smiled at him as he sat across from her. “How did you know?” she questioned his abilities to know when she needed comforting.

He swallowed his coffee, “I know you better than anyone angel. Now eat” he said with a smile, and they tucked into the breakfast he made.

Killian got up and phoned the Barber Shop, making himself an appointment for a shave and a haircut. He dressed himself as Emma sat reading on the porch. Grabbing the keys, he went out to the porch and leaned down. “I am running out love, do you need anything?”

Emma looked up at him, “Nope” she said smiling and he nodded.

While Killian was gone, Emma showered and dressed. She tidied the house and stopped at the entrance to the guest room. She began picturing it with a crib, and a rocking chair, bookshelves, a soft rug, and smiled. It’s ok to want this Emma, you deserve happiness, she told herself.

Killian headed toward the realtor office after he walked out of the Barber. The woman greeted him, and he gave her the outline of what they were seeking. The woman smiled, writing down all the information and said she would phone them when she had a set of listings in a few days. Killian thanked her and headed toward Maurice’s.

Maurice French came out of the back room and greeted him warmly. “Jones! What can I help you with?” he asked.

“Just a bouquet for Emma, do you have any of those roses?” he asked.

Maurice smiled, “In fact I do. Black ribbon?” and Killian nodded. Maurice disappeared and came back a few moments later, wrapping them in paper for him. “I meant to tell you thank you Killian, for Belle, my grandbaby. I cannot possibly thank you enough.”

Killian nodded, “I love her too, and there was no option except to find her Maurice.” And the man nodded at him. “How much do I owe you?” Killian asked.

“It’s on the house, your lovely wife deserves them.” And Killian smiled at that. It appeared Emma had charmed the town so far, just as he expected she would.

“Thank you, I shall see you soon” and Maurice waved him off smiling and pushed his glasses back up his nose.

Killian headed home and found Emma right where he had left her. Nose in a book, sipping lemonade on the porch, barefoot and her curls blowing in the breeze. He made his way up the stairs towards her, the flowers hidden behind his back.

“For you my love” he handed them to her, and Emma smiled at him. He leaned in to kiss her and sat in his chair.

Emma inhaled the scent of the roses smiling, “What is the occasion Jones?”

“No occasion. Just for you being you angel.” He said smiling at her.

“Your hair looks much better” she smirked, and he laughed nodding in agreement.

“What time is the appointment?” and Emma glanced at her wristwatch.

“One thirty” she said, and he nodded.

He headed inside to prepare a light lunch, glancing at the clock. They had an hour before the appointment, so he worked quickly and called Emma inside.

They ate quietly, and Killian mentioned the realtor, and Emma smiled at him. “You really think I can do this?” she asked him, and he nodded.

“I have yet to see you fail Swan. I also thought perhaps I would work with you, until I found something to do with myself.” Emma smiled.

“What do you want to do?” she asked him, and he shrugged.

“I only know a few things Swan. Being the muscle, and boats which doesn’t leave me a ton of options” he said absently.

Emma nodded, “What if you opened a storage facility for boats, repairing them, and housing them for the people who summer here?” He smiled at her, “I never thought of that before” he said, turning the idea over in his head.

“You could make your own hours, it would be a small steady income, I think you would be great at it” she said grabbing his plate and washing it as she smiled at him.

He nodded, “It’s a thought, let’s get you your space and then I will worry about my plans. We have plenty of money in the bank so that I wont need to rush it, but like you I don’t like sitting still this long either. I think I have only been content to do so because you are here, and we are spending time together. That has been my top priority.”

Emma leaned against the sink, “I just want you to do something you love Killian.”

He stood and placed his hands on her hips, “Don’t worry love, I always figure out something.” And she nodded.

“We need to go.” She said looking at her watch. They collected their things, and got into the car, Emma sliding behind the wheel of the car, and adjusting the mirrors.

“Ready?” and she nodded.

Killian guided her toward the hospital, and they parked entering the building heading toward the office. The receptionist greeted them, and they sat hands entwined until Emma’s name was called.

Emma’s stomach was a mess, her gut churning, nausea flooding through her. She felt her heart beating rapidly as they walked the corridor into an exam room.

The nurse took her information down and told her Dr. Astrid would be with them shortly.

Killian rubbed her back softly. “It’s ok Emma, everything is ok.”

She nodded and grabbed his hand, kissing the back of it and he smiled softly at her.

A petite woman came in, and introduced herself to Emma, nodding in hello at Killian. “So, what brings you in today Emma?” She asked looking over her small chart.

“I think I might be pregnant” and the words felt foreign leaving her mouth so freely. She tensed up and Killian felt her hand squeeze his harder.

Dr. Astrid nodded, “What symptoms are you experiencing?”

Emma swallowed, “I have put on a slight bit of weight, but my cycle is late and we do not use protection. My skin has been more sensitive than usual, there is a little vomiting but not regularly, we have had a lot of stress the last two weeks, but I am not sure if it is nerves.”

Dr. Astrid nodded, “Do you want Killian to step out before I examine you?” and Emma shook her head.

“Ok, well lets have a look” and she turned while Killian unzipped her dress for her and she stepped out of it, laying back on the table.

Dr. Astrid turned back around and rubbed her hands together and warmed her stethoscope. She listened to Emma’s heartbeat, holding her wrist taking a pulse. Her small hands moving quickly over Emma. “Can you remove your undergarments for me Emma?” and Emma nodded.

Unhooking her bra, she glanced at Killian who sat in a chair watching her. He smiled, and looked down at the floor, her dress draped across his legs.

Dr. Astrid began pushing lightly on her skin, under her arms, finding tender spots. “Have you noticed your breasts swelling, or any discharge?” she asked still examining.

Emma shook her head, “I don’t think they have swelled, and no discharge. Killian, have you noticed anything?”

He cleared his throat, “I have noticed a small swell in her lower belly” and Emma gaped at him, looking down to her belly.

“How often are you sexually active?” Dr. Astrid asked, before Emma could say anything in response to Killian, and she blushed.

“Daily” she said shyly.

Dr. Astrid smiled, “no need to be embarrassed, a healthy sexual relationship in a marriage is a good thing” she said and smiled at them both. “Would you say once a day, or more frequently?”

Emma grinned, “usually once a day, sometimes more” and the Doctor nodded.

“Alright Emma, lets take a look at your vagina.” Emma slid her panties down and Killian swallowed, turning his gaze to the wall opposite of his chair. The Doctor slid a stool between Emma’s legs, and moved her legs to open wider. He did not want to watch this part, so he simply daydreamed about their boat outing and how happy Emma looked, the sun glistening on her golden hair, trying to tune the exam out.

Emma felt pressure as Dr. Astrid began her vaginal exam. “You are doing great Emma” Dr. Astrid reassured her as she slipped her covered fingers into Emma further, pushing lightly on her belly. She promptly removed her hand and stood washing it in the small sink.

“I will need to take some blood and urine samples from you, can you do that for me?” and Emma nodded.

She placed a small plastic cup on the ledge and instructed Emma to dress and open the door when she was dressed, before leaving the room.

Emma stood up, grabbing a tissue to wipe herself, and Killian handed her dress and clothing to her. Emma dressed quickly and grabbed the cup off the counter smiling at Killian shyly as she opened the door. Dr. Astrid led her to a small bathroom, and instructed her how to urinate in the cup, and she washed up handing the cup to a nurse waiting outside the door. Dr. Astrid led her down the hall to another room where the phlebotomist was setting up, and Emma sat making a fist, and the woman chattered on trying to distract Emma, for which Emma was grateful for.

It was done quickly, and the nurse led her back to the exam room. Killian’s head popped up as she entered, and she sat on the table again, as the nurse said the Doctor would be back shortly.

Killian stood, and combed Emma’s curls with his fingers, “Whatever the result Swan, it doesn’t matter. Ok love?” and She nodded, leaning her head against his chest.

A short while later, Dr. Astrid entered still writing in Emma’s chart. “Well Jones’s, it appears you have a baby on the way. Testing will take a few days for the lab should you wish for me to complete a urine-based test with your sample, but based off my pelvic exam, and Emma’s symptoms, I would say it is safe to assume that you are indeed pregnant.”

I advise all of my patients to wait until their next appointment before sharing news with anyone simply because I want to be sure for you, and to ensure that you are healthy, and to avoid false alarms.”

“We will make it on the way out, thank you Doctor” Killian said.

Emma was in shock, “Have a nice day, congratulations” Dr. Astrid said as she exited their room, the door shutting behind her.

Killian gathered Emma in his arms, cupping her cheek and placing his forehead against hers. “Emma are you happy?” and she nodded, the tears still running down her cheeks. “Don’t cry my love, this is wonderful.”

Emma stood, hugging him back tightly. “I didn’t know how much I wanted this until she said it Killian.”

“Let me handle that, lets just get you home and settled” he said squeezing her hand.

Killian was so excited, his heart beating rapidly in his chest, Emma looked like she was on cloud nine with her smile, and her eyes shining with tears. He couldn’t believe how lucky they were and steered them home. As much as he wanted to tell everyone, he would wait and ensure that both Emma and their child were safe and relaxed.

Parking the car, Emma unbuckled herself and Killian dashed out of the car opening her door. “Jones, I am pregnant, not paralyzed” she joked, and he smiled.

“I just don’t want you overexerting yourself love, that’s all.” Emma nodded, and sighed.

“I am still me, still able to do everything as normal Killian” she said.

“I know but let’s just make sure you take it a little easy until the next appointment, ok?” and she nodded as he unlocked their door.

Emma trailed her fingers up the buttons of his shirt and circled his neck with her arms. “I know how I want to celebrate” she said coyly and kissed him. He gripped her hips and smirked.

“Nothing to vigorous love” and she pouted.

“I need you” she said ghosting his lips with hers, and he swallowed. His fingers tightened on her hips, and she spun dragging him by the hand towards their bedroom.

Happiness coursed through his veins, “wow” he whispered, and just laid back on their bed thinking of a small girl with blonde hair and blue eyes. He thought of Emma’s belly rounding with their child, and all the preparations he needed to make.

My friend drives a '98 Mercury right now. She's been into four accidents (three of them were caused by her), is one point away from getting her license taken away, and got a DUI last summer. Whats Worse For Your BrainDrinking or Playing Football?

Our correspondent drinks for a living. Is he putting his brain at more risk of damage than a football player?

I woke up Sunday morning with a throbbing headache. Id spent the previous night heavily sampling a selection of rare whiskeys with some friends.

That may have been fun, but now here I was, still in bed at 11 a.m., barely able to keep my eyes open, hardly able to think, certainly not wanting to turn on the days NFL games.

A parent cant consent to giving their kids a cigarette or a beerwhy can they consent to him playing tackle football?

And I thought this cannot be good for my brain.

The effect of NFL action on the brain is one of the hottest topics of the moment, with the movie Concussion opening this Christmas weekend.

In that film Will Smith portrays Bennet Omalu, the forensic pathologist who first brought to light the appearance of CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) in American football players.

Thanks partially to Omalus work, nowadays when we watch the constant brutality on the football field, when we see players crashing their heads into each other down after down, when we notice aging players getting dementia (and worse) once retired, many of us have even started to wonder, Can I ethically enjoy football any more? Myself included.

At the same time, though, I often put my own brain in serious jeopardy too.

Yes, I am a professional drinks writer. Mid-day cocktail tastings. Evening scotch samplings. Beer festivals on the weekends. Trips to breweries, distilleries, and wineries. You should see how much free liquor gets delivered to my house on a daily basis!

People often tell me I must have one of the best jobs around. But they arent the ones that have had to drink literally every single day for hell, who knows how many days in a row it has been now. They arent the ones that wake up many mornings with a hangoverjust another occupational hazard.

So, with all this in mind, I decided to ask some football concussion doctors about the effects of my equally dangerous profession on my own precious brain. I wondered, how bad is my drinking compared to playing football?

Was a single whiskey shot equal to a QB sack?

A night of heavy beer drinking equal to a half of football?

Did my brutal Sunday morning hangover feel worse than it did on a Monday morning for a running back?

Neither Dr. Omalunor Will Smithreturned any of my calls, but luckily I had other accomplished doctors willing to answer my questions.

Dr. William Barr is the Director of Neuropsychology at NYU Langone Medical Center.

He is a clinical expert on epilepsy, forensic neuropsychology, and sports concussions. He has testified in numerous cases involving forensics and in civil cases involving MTBI (mild traumatic brain injury). More importantly, from the mid-1990s until 2004, Barr was a neuropsychological medical consultant for the NFLs New York Jets.

He quickly understood the somewhat silly concept behind this piece, and even why a professional drinks writer had reason to be concerned.

I used to think about boxers, he told me, noting that this was before all this concussion talk was in the mainstream. People used to say boxing was the only way for a kid to get out of the ghettobut he had to put his brain at risk. How terrible it was that society forced them to do this! But I also thought about the typical Mad Men-era businessmen. They had to do the three-martini lunches for their workthey too were pickling their brains just to get ahead!

Barr is a bit of a firebrand when it comes to talk about concussions. In fact, he believes concussionswhether from football or otherwiseactually have a fairly minimal impact on future cognitive functioning.

When you look at the studies and what happens three months after a concussiondo you know what meta-analysis is? he asks. I dont. He explains that, In science, rather than making conclusions based on a single study, you look at all the literature. Put it into a similar metric. Whats the overall effect based on many, many studies? So now, maybe, youre looking at 300 people over 10 studies. What it shows is the overall effect (on your brain) of a concussion after 30 days is lower than the effects of intoxication.

The study Barr is citing is Grant L. Iversons 2005 paper Outcome from Mild Traumatic Brain Injury.

Iverson didnt study alcohols traumatic effect on the brain per se, but he did find chronic cannabis use to be worse on overall neuropsychological functioning than an MTBI (mild traumatic brain injury) was on a person just one to three months after the injury had occurred. Likewise, he found chronic cannabis use to be slightly worse on future memory functioning than an MTBI.

For Barr, that was enough for him to deduce for me that alcohol abuse would be probably likewise worse on the brain than head injuries from playing football. Uh oh.

Barr isnt completely speculating, as he has co-authored his own significant studies. With a team of other doctors and PhDs he helped pen Cumulative Effects Associated with Recurrent Concussion in Collegiate Football Players and Acute Effects and Recovery Time Following Concussion in Collegiate Football Players.

Ive studied athletes more than the general population. With them we can get information before their injury and then after, he tells me. And what that shows is that 95 percent (of athletes who have a concussion) recover back to normal in 7 days or less.

He tests alcoholics brains in a similar manner to how he tests concussed athletes. He interviews them and then gives them a series of tests, ones mainly based on memory functioning (they have to remember a certain story).

So I might notice, this person has problems with attention and remembering things. In the past theyve been a 10-drinks-a-day alcoholic and now it looks like theyve pickled brain.

Though well-honored and quite thorough, you can probably see how Barr is considered a bit of a contrarian for his thinking on concussions.

Barr was even dismissed from the NFLs MTBI committee in 2004 by then-chairman Elliot Pellman, another former New York Jets team physician who is not without his own controversy.

I wanted another doctors opinion on my potentially pickling brain. Dr. James Paci, a professor and orthopedic surgeon, specializes in sports medicine at Stony Brook University Medicine. Hes also the football teams doctor.

First, he clarified that he was neither a neurologist nor brain physician. Despite that, he was trained to deal with concussions on a day-in, day-out basis in his own role as team doctor.

My expertise is how do we treat these athletes, Paci told me. What do we look out for? How do we prevent long term consequences?

However, unlike Barr, Paci somewhat struggled with the comparisons I was hoping he would draw for me.

Certainly there is some connection between alcoholism and Alzheimers, brain diseases. Drawing a parallel between drinking and football though? I dont think anyone has made that correlation. Though he does note, The rock n roll lifestyle and athlete lifestyle certainly do have some comparisons.

A man like Paci believes that both football and drinking are inherently dangerous, but thats OK, so long as we acknowledge the risk involved in both activities and, thus, let potential participants make informed decisions.

Ive had concussions before, Paci tells me. Anyone who plays sports has had one before.

Paci is about my age, having played football at Yale University in the late-1990s, while the slightly-older Barr played during a time head injuries werent treated all that seriously.

Back in the day when I played high school football, Barr tells me, you pretty much had to be in a coma before they did anything about it.

So both men had played football at a fairly high level, had head injuries on the field, and were still able to become prestigious doctors. But did they drink?

Not routinely, but I do, Paci tells me. Most doctors do. There are certainly benefits to some alcohol.

(Ive been saying that for years.)

I do, Barr also tells me. Everything in moderation. A little bit of alcohol can be good for the heart. Theres good data for the red wines. Some scotch in moderation, a finger a day maybe.

So you guys drink, but now knowing what you know, would you let your own children play football?

On that point Paci is fairly strict, believing young children simply dont have the body control and should stick to flag football or two-hand touch.

Barr has a six-month grandson he absolutely wants to play football some day.

Should that boy play football or not? My take, from what we know right now: the chance of getting dementia, the prospect of a 13-year-old boy who starts football getting dementia one day is, lets say, 1 to 2 percent. Im being liberal, Barr tells me. But lets say that boy is not allowed to play football. Instead junior becomes fat and gets diabetes and high blood pressure. Now he has a 30 percent chance of dying of dementia.

So to Barr inactivity in this country is a much bigger problem than helmet-to-helmet contactinteresting, because drinkers on the whole are statistically much more active than non-drinkers according to the Center for Advancing Health.

That papers lead author, Michael French, a professor of health economics at the University of Miami, found that alcohol users not only exercised more than teetotalers, but the differential actually increased with more drinking.

I dont fully understand the relationship, Barr admits, though he has a speculation. Maybe people feel like after visiting the gym, they deserve to do something bad.

Its true enough anecdotally for myself, though Im a bit more of the reverse. I do something bad the night before, then feel the need to go jog five miles the next day.

I ask Barr point-blank, It seems like you ultimately think its safer to play in the NFL than to drink heavily?

Yeah, you could say that, he confirms.

This did not sound good for me. But what exactly did heavily mean? This week alone I sampled new whiskeys on Monday, drank wine with dinner on Tuesday, visited a hot new cocktail bar on Wednesday, went to a brewery opening on Thursday, and hit happy hour with friends on Friday.

Luckily, Barr relieved some of my concerns about any sort of future with dementia, simply telling me, You would not be on the phone with me, or even able to write this story, if you were drinking too much.

Regardless, I think Ill start trying to be more cognizant of my intake. As Paci ultimately summed up for me: The brain is an amazing thing. Your head hurts when you bang it. So you try not to bang your head again. With a hangover, theres obviously something similar going on there.
