Oh man, I’m actually tearing up a little. It seems like just the other day this was “that one cat comic” making the rounds on tumblr, that I just had to look up to learn more. I decided to take on some translations to practice both my Japanese and comic lettering, and my little fandom blog hasn’t been the same since. Thank you guys for supporting my imperfect translations, and thank you for all your awesome fanart and support of the artist! Clearly the enthusiasm for the comic hasn’t gone unnoticed. I don’t know a lot about how licensing works, but I’d hope that the fantastic reception by western fans will help the series to get an officially licensed translation (and maybe we’ll get some of that sweet Fukumaru merch as well). Thank you! As soon as I saw the parallels of ‘a guy and his cat’ I couldn’t resist. Ojisama to Neko needs more characters though, otherwise all of Papa’s social links are gonna have to be OCs.

Secretly, what I really want to see is crossover fanart. Papa’s a fox and he’d look good in a fancy metaverse suit.

Ojisama to Neko: Cats vs. Dogs

I’ve been meaning to draw some decent Ojisama to Neko fanart and just hadn’t gotten around to it until now. One thing I really love about this comic is the friendship between Kanda and Kobayashi. They have such a clear cat-person vs. dog-person dichotomy going on, not just in the fact that they’re constantly arguing over whose pet is cuter, but just in their personalities and the way they interact with others. It makes for conflict at times, but a stronger friendship overall. And that’s exactly what you want in any relationship, right?

As a side note, I keep wanting to romanize Chako’s name as “Chaco,” like the canyon. But because it’s written as 茶子 (with the kana ちゃこ), it’s really better that I leave it as it is...
