Most magical mascots would usually choose a group of teenage girls to be chosen as magical guardians. However, one mascot, for the sake of efficiency, decides to choose a group of marines to become magical girls instead.
(A response to a writing prompt)
“Ladies and gentlemen, I’ll admit, there was a mix-up when I heard what they call folks like you. See, I’m lovable and cute, so I sometimes get distracted by my reflection. On that day, the windows were extra shiny in the guardian temple, so I misheard what my instructor said.” Pilwa paused, staring at her own reflection in the window of a black pickup truck. How did she look so fluffy? Her pink tail curled to perfection, adding to that harmless fox identity she had. Oh, and the sparkles. How her fur glittered. She would sell millions of copies if she were from some corny video game. Unfortunately for Pilwa, this was real life and her marketable face was only good for motivating her chosen army.
“Pilwa? You ok, you stopped talking.” Gary said, the grizzled veteran sitting on an overturned bucket. He had seen the horrors of war, and this sight disturbed him more than anything he had seen on a battlefield. What was she? He scratched his grey beard, trying to figure that out.
“Huh? So. I did. Thank you, soldier 1,” she said, assigning every soldier a number, not bothering to learn their names. “As I was saying, I thought my instructor said you were a bunch of baby seals. I was thrilled at the prospect of creating an aquatic army of magical baby seal girls. Oh, I would have had to work on the name for that one.” Pilwa paused. “Baby Magic Seals? Seal Magic? Sealed Magic?”
“Ugh. Does she ever shut up? Someone tell me this toy has an off switch. Is this some new form of torture device?” Allie, or Soldier 3 by Pilwa’s rude standards, groaned, unsure why Gary was even indulging this lunacy.
Pilwa’s neck twisted, snapping to Allie. Those purple pupils showing the wrath of one hundred suns, the sort of anger that one could only get from centuries of being mistaken for a toy by small infants. From years of getting her tail pulled and drooled on, that rage culminating into this outburst.
“Shut up? I’ll shut you up. You think you can take me? I’ll rot your teeth out with a candy cane punch. I don’t tolerate disrespect.” Pilwa said, the soldiers all going stiff, not daring to utter a word. “Y-you will…. Waaaaaaah” And like that, the soldiers all breathed again, watching the guardian break down. “I just want to eat snacks and stare at myself. I don’t want to fight magic wars. Why’s everyone so mean? Is it because I’m beautiful and you’re all 4s?”
The group all looked at one another. They were at least a five or six out of ten. Maybe Gary was even a seven. Dad bods were apparently in. James stepped forward, planting a hand on the shoulder of the magical guardian.
“Maybe we should all just work together, right? Think about it. If we don’t do this, who will? I don’t want my daughter fighting some magical war, do you? This is our chance to take a stand and kill the horrible things that plague the world. We won’t only be fighting for our country, we will be fighting for our world.” James hoped his speech went well. He was young — well, young by the squad’s standards, so he hadn’t earned the right to speak out of line. That shaved head of his dripping with sweat before the squad roared with cheers.
“Damn right. I’m not letting my daughter go to war. I signed up to stop that.” Gary stood up, crossing his arms over his chest. “Whose with us?” Soon Pilwa was surrounded by the soldiers, the guardian having her own personal army. With a snap of her fingers, she decorated the squad in her uniform of choice, wearing fluttery pink dresses with darling frills.
The guns they had strapped over their shoulders were covered in marketable Pilwa stickers, with her face being on all of them. Even Allie got a sticker on her gun, although hers had a frowning face, the guardian still not having forgiven her after getting yelled at. With the squad suited up, Pilwa teleported them to their newest mission. Leaving the swampy fields they had been fighting in.
The area they landed in was dark and cold. They heard the dripping of water, as well as the heavy thumping of feet down stone stairs. Gary shushed the squad, finding a lighter in his pocket. While they couldn’t see the target, they could still hear them. With the element of surprise, Gary was confident they could take down anything.
“WOW, ITS DARK IN HERE. ANYONE KNOW WHERE THE VILLAIN IS?” Pilwa shouted, bumping into their legs, making some soldiers flinch. There was a roaring scream as Pilwa spoke. The scream making Pilwa yelp, the mascot accidentally releasing a light spell, creating a disco ball that rotated through the room, giving them the odd circles of light, offering them a way of seeing the monster.
The monster was a corrupted princess. The once beautiful princess was a dream created by a girl named Abigail. This princess set to marry the prince of some neighbouring kingdom because she was the prettiest and everyone liked her before she was super cool. Oh, and she had two hundred horses named Pony. The creativity of children always being a strange thing, however, as she slept that night, the dream turned into a nightmare, and this was the result. A nightmarish creation that would eat the soul of the child if it wasn’t killed.
The princess didn’t look human anymore, limbs covered in thorns, like that of a rose, each one dripping a rotting black liquid that burned the ground it touched. She methodically moved through the room, trying to shift through the brief spots of darkness that she could find. It was almost as if she was dancing, swaying with the disco ball to avoid its direct light.
The soldiers stepped back, Allie grabbing the mascot, dragging her with them. They knew they had to huddle close, not wanting to give the monster a chance to pick them off. If they had to guess, they were in a dungeon. At least, that’s what the miserable bland walls and chains would suggest.
“Formation two. Expect the enemy to try to attack us from the rear. If a person’s grabbed, don’t give chase.” Gary ordered, pointing his gun at the darkness, while his allies did the same, waiting for a glimpse of the creature.
The creature remained idle. Still swaying. While they could see it, its movements were too unpredictable to take a shot. As soon as they fired, it would either attack or flee. They wanted to keep their casualties at zero, which meant they needed a perfect shot.
“THIS IS TAKING SOOOO LONG. COME ON, KILL HER.” Pilwa strutted forward, pointing her finger at the creature, not realizing that monsters loved eating guardians. After all, when a guardian died, the magical girls would lose their powers. The monster lunged, trying to bite the head off Pilwa, only to get hit by a barrage of bullets from Allie. Each bullet making a cute pew pew noise, ripping through the monster’s flesh. When the monster died, it dissolved into the ground, the area lighting up after its passing, reverting to the perfect dream it once had been.
Then they were back at camp, sitting around the fire. It was as if nothing had happened. If it wasn’t for Pilwa, they would have all assumed they had hallucinated the last twenty minutes. Pilwa hugged Allie, refusing to let her go.
“THANK YOU! I thought I was going to die. Why did it want to eat me? Was it jealous? Why am I so adorable?” She sobbed into Allie, letting out all that fear she had felt. “Y-you kno… yo-you aren’t tat bad,” Pilwa said, trying to speak through sobs. The sticker on Allie’s gun changing, now being a giant love heart that covered the entire side of the weapon.
“Ah, yeah? Ew, gross. Don’t wipe your nose on me. You’re covering me in slimy glitter.” Allie said, throwing Pilwa away in disgust.
James only laughed, picking up Pilwa, dusting her off. “So, did we save someone? Honestly, that was kind of scary. I remember having a nightmare like that when I was a kid.”
“Then… a magical girl probably saved your life in the past, too.” Pilwa softly said. “A girl would be dead if it wasn’t for you. So, um. Thanks. Will you keep lending me your support?” Pilwa asked, sheepishly digging her foot into the ground, trying to look extra cute. The group looked at each other, before all nodding. Gary took it upon himself to give their answer, speaking in his gruff voice.
“Yeah, we’ll be your Baby Seals.”

Apologies for going off-fixation lol - to make up for it tell me more about Chrysi and her new bf 👀👀
AAHHHH, I HAVE! SO MANY THOUGHTS!!! My apologies if this is all over the place because... Mordred, my beloved.
So at the end of the series, Mordred ends up being exiled from Camelot (which... fair. It was very merciful that he wasn't killed in the end), so he goes to the island of Avalon, where a lot of other exiled witches live. Most of them are women, and so Mordred becomes their protector of sorts.
Chrysi ends up there for reasons I haven't totally figured out, but I want her to have been essentially kicked out from her own kingdom by her sister after she, uh, accidentally brought back all the dead from a graveyard. Oops.
She and Mordred get along. She makes him laugh and he's intrigued by her, and she thinks he's cute! And smart! But she doesn't let herself like him because she knows he's still not over this other girl (she didn't know the other girl was Queen Guinevere, but that's neither here nor there. Yet.)
Obviously they grow closer as they live side by side in Avalon. All the other witches and girls there love Chrysi, and they all think Mordred should start pursuing her instead of still being caught up on Guinevere (what is it with Chrysi and her men with fixations on their past relationships <//3 she has to break them in like a wild horse). During this time, Chrysi quickly gains a reputation for being clumsy / bad with magic. Every time she tries something new, something will explode. All the time. (Mordred’s all like “So what was it that got you kicked from your old place? Too many blown-up torches?” “I brought a legion of the dead back to life on accident” “Oh.” He’s still not sure if she was joking.)
Eventually, I want there to be a horror aspect, similar to magical / supernatural zombies showing up. Chrysi’s the only one that knows how to take care of them, so she… essentially tears them apart and sends them back into the ground headfirst (so they can’t scratch their way up). Ten she makes new protections around Avalon and Mordred’s like “Wow… soulmate right there? Wow!!!”
Buuuut unfortunately, these creatures showing up means Chrysi has to go back to her home kingdom and make sure her sister isn’t doing everything Chrysi told her not to. Spoiler alert: she is.
Anyway, Chrysi tries to sneak out of Avalon in the middle of the night, only for Mordred to be at her back door when she’s heading out. Chrysi just barely manages to avoid cursing him out, fortunately.
Turns out Mordred guessed what she was doing because for the past couple days, she’d been going around and giving ppl some gifts and being all grateful to them for taking her in and all—and he rightfully guessed she was trying to leave. Well, too bad, because now he’s pledged himself as her knight and she has to take him with her. Excellent.
Chrysi doesn’t really want to argue with him (though they do. They do argue quite a bit.), so she ends up bringing him along. It’s handy to have someone that can talk to animals (which btw!! Mordred can commune with animals!  It makes me all fluttery inside + you know Chrysi’s annoying him with “Can you speak to my cats? Can you tell them I love them? Please? Pretty please?”) and someone that’s half-fairy and also can do magic. I love them together.
So they set out to the coast, where Chrysi hopes to catch a ship (Mordred… does not like the ocean all that much, I choose to believe. I like to also believe that he gets somewhat seasick. All because of a throwaway line in the book.). Along the way, Mordred teaches her how to fight. He quickly finds her to be really good (not as good as him, but that’s alright—she’s best with a quarter staff and he can tell she might be his equal with that weapon) and he also finds her to be?? Really scary with a bow and arrow? Okay, he’s handing over his heart already, she’s earned it.
They get very… close on this journey. Lots of them sleeping close for “warmth”, then intermittently waking up to watch the other sleep and marvel at how pretty they are. Anyway, they aren’t in love. (Keep telling yourselves that.)
When they get to Chrysi’s kingdom, Mordred finds Chrysi’s essentially a princess (what the fuck!!!) and also a feared and powerful magic being—occasionally called “Death’s Bride”, “Angel of the Crossroads”, “Queen of Nightmares”… Mordred’s like “Who the FUCK have I been traveling with?? And kissing?? HUH???”
He also meets Jacks, who is obviously in this universe because I love how dedicated Jacks is to Chrysi even when they aren’t together, and he decides it will be very funny to irritate Jacks from then on out.
This is where drama happens and, while I have many scenes planned, most of them aren’t coherently linked together. There’s lots of the undead coming back and eating ppl, lots of ghouls, but Chrysi pretty easily takes them down. Her main concern is who is causing all this?? She can only stop the symptoms, but she’s not able to discern the root of the issue—which bugs her.
To add to her issue with tracking down what’s causing all this, her older sister is deliberately making things more difficult for her. Lots of political intrigue happens at the same time, and Mordred’s suddenly really glad he made himself Chrysi’s knight bc he can be with her all the time. Jacks is also trying to be around Chrysi all the time and he finds Mordred’s presence really fucking annoying. It’s awesome.
OH, ALSO! This kingdom is full of magic, in direct contrast to Camelot. Mordred’s actually… really fascinated by it. Chrysi likes showing him all her favorite places (a hallway where all the walls and ceilings and floors are made of stained glass, her cave garden that her brother kept up while she was gone, the springs that are inside the castle with a waterfall coming in from the top to keep the water levels up… Mordred thinks he loves it here.)
I really enjoy them…
OH, ALSO I HAVE A MODERN AU WHERE THEY’RE DUMB COLLEGE STUDENTS AND ALSO THEY PLAY DND TOGETHER AND MORDRED LIKES TO BE A MODEL FOR CHRYSI WHENEVER SHE DRAWS!!! I just want to bring that up :3

Love is Bright Red, Hope is Dark Blue SNEAK PEAK
So, it seems that sneak peaks keep me accountable, because every time I posted one I finished the fic, and if that’s not some voodoo magic I don’t know what is.
However, this hopefully will be the last fic I post before ACOSF. I’m aware that many of you will probably be logged off by the time I post, but honestly who even remembers this fic series. I’m perfectly okay with shouting to the void. I’m going to abandon every fic I said I was going to write and keep them on the back burner. This will be the first completed work I’ve ever had and I’m determined and... also very bored! (insert little emoji with the fists up)
So, I’m going in.
Nesta’s Love is Quiet/Cassian’s Love is Warm Masterlist
~
The picture of Nesta hangs on the living room wall. She moves and its eyes follow. She blinks and it awakens. The other her stares. Her expression a collage of painted lashes, crimson dusted skin, a rose that is cradled in her hands. This Nesta, praying to some unknown deity who never answers.
She looks innocent. Far too innocent for the amount of horrors she’s seen... and she’s alone.
A singularity. An outlier.
The image lies off center in the middle of the wall, yet the other pictures crawl up the space like tangling vines suffocating the life out of her. Life is not painted in her eyebrows, or the color of her hair, or the red of her lips, or her pale neck. Rather, it is what is around her. The pictures that are filled with laughter and smiles and heart-wrenching happiness.
They must have taken it from her, she thinks. Poor girl.
But Nesta shakes her head. No, she never had it. It was always the others who laughed, who yelled, who joked those jokes of theirs. She might have been placed here, forced to fit, squeezed into the place they could find room for, but at the end of the day, she is merely a pretty painting tacked in Feyre’s living room wall. Beautiful… but not alive. Cold, and alone, and red with the stain of blood.
Is this what Feyre sees when Nesta skidders through her memories? If it is, she is even more certain of their foolish want to love her.
“I painted it the day you left. I think it came out beautifully, don’t you think?”
I think I look dead inside; she wants to say, turning to Feyre who leans against a table, all starry skies and none of the bleak, burning black holes.
Dead.
Dead and buried.
Feyre grimaces, taking a breath as if she’ll recite poetry in the hall. What other words will spew from the depths of her throat and croak out in sounds and syllables?
Are words even enough to describe memories turned to dust and rose-colored wounds freshly healed?
The fiery anger blooms out of Nesta’s lungs. Its laid dormant for far too long, all those winter days in the mountains trapped under frost. But, Nesta can’t respond, doesn’t know what she’d say to her little sister who means so much to her, but at the same time makes her heart ache as if it bleeds from where’s she’s stabbed her in the chest.
Nesta opens her mouth to speak...
Elain strolls in.
“Dinner’s almost ready,” She grins, grasping her forearm, pulling Nesta towards the dining room in glee. “I thought I’d show you what I made to celebrate.”
Nesta shudders at the thought, at the feeling of her sisters at her side and behind her. Huddling around her as if they mean to keep her close. Nesta thinks it feels like a prison. “Celebrate what?”
Elain looks at her oddly, “You being back—and Cassian, of course… Your health.” She adds, her brows furrowing in concern. Nesta doesn’t know what that look means.
Tell me, she wants to scream.
Elain swallows, the dandelion charm at her throat bobbing. “When Cassian carried you in, you looked so… small. Feyre and I were worried that you’d—”
“We had complete faith that you’d be safe and well again,” Feyre smiles, the mirth never reaching her eyes.
An odd phrase, Nesta thinks, for she’s never been safe or well.
Nesta squints to the table and Elain perhaps noticing the shift, moves quickly to the image of steaming casserole and piping hot buns. Dessert already sits in each corner and she wonders who exactly they’re all feeding if this is the amount of food they waste.
“The roast is still in the oven.” Her favorite.
“You’re favorite,” Elain mumbles softly—shyly, “I thought since we missed your birthday, we could celebrate now.”
That word again.
Celebrate…
Don’t they know that she rejoices in being away from them? That she finds solace in the quiet day by day. There is no obligation of sterile complacency, of beauty she can never live up to. She doesn’t need to be a good sister, a caring sister, a sister who reaches both hands out in compassion. In Windhaven, beyond Velaris, she is just Nesta. She is no one.
Nesta resists rolling her eyes or saying something snarky just because she can, just because she knows it’ll hurt. Instead, she touches the plate on the table, a fine porcelain made of blue glass. It reminds her of the chandelier she has at home, blinking and twisting like an unhindered star.
She doesn’t want to celebrate her birthday.
Feyre pulls out a chair, the noise screeching against the floor and Nesta can’t stop the harsh look she sends her way.
If they missed it, she did too.
But at her cold demeaner, Elain is quick to lure her to a seat, proclaiming that Nesta will sit beside her all evening. Perhaps, they’ll exchange stories. I want to hear everything, she pleads. Will Nesta tell her the weather then? The bitter frosts, the buried cemeteries, the avalanches that never came crashing down like she wanted. It was all too perfect, all too according to plan.
Nesta will not let them have the satisfaction.
Elain smiles crookedly, some noise that sounds both like a laugh and a cry barreling out of her lips.
Nesta half-wonders what about her now seems fragile to her little sister when she had treaded precariously past death and disinterest and yet nothing could persuade them a year ago that she wasn’t well enough— okay enough.
Nesta only looks to the stairs. The sound of rustling feet stampeding above. She can feel him even now, wants to call for him even if she abhors the thought.
Her sisters are… different when Cassian is around. More watchful, more cautious. Not as eager to touch her or to offer an array of activities that don’t at all sound pleasing to her ears. He is her guard somehow, even though he offers nothing but laughs and soft, easy smiles.
But he ambles down the stairs as if she calls him. Perhaps she does, in that hollow part of her body she still doesn’t understand. The part that whispers his name, echoes his feelings, reminds her that she is not alone.
“Sit,” She urges lowly, moving the utensils that Elain sets down to another place setting. Cassian raises a brow but sits beside her.
His hand rests on the table and Nesta wants to know what it would seem like to these… people—her family if she placed her palm in his so openly. She clenches her fist to stop the reaching, turning her gaze away from his golden skin.
“Oh,” Elain says, noting the seat beside her taken.
To be continued….

I hate confrontation like my life depends on it, but I don’t know how to start the healing process for the sisters without some, so maybe you’ll get an outburst or two from Nesta and maybe Cassian. But ultimately it’s going to end not like the healing is complete, but rather that the healing is able to take place, ripping off band aids here. It’s going to be long and emotional.
I read the previous chapters and omg I get so mad when I read it. It’s like physically impossible to read Nesta’s voice without being stark, ugly mad, but it is easier to write that way. Also, Feyre is about to be annoying in this but it has to happen to come full circle. But at least Cassian and Nesta will be uber cute and established! I have a day out in Velaris date for them.
If y’all have followed this story and have some burning desire to see something, let me know! It will be the last chance to do so. Because again, I’m determined to finish and I’ll NEVER write for this fic again. NEVER. But I will not write smut (unfortunately I suck at that and I try to avoid anything I suck at)
Actually let me set a date: it’s going to be posted on Wednesday by 11:59pm central time. Yell at me if it’s not lol. This will be my reaching 1000 followers gift.

REQUEST: Can you do a scenario where lev meets his s/o because she playing the piano or singing. Thank you. Love your writing.❤️
A/N: Thank you for requesting!! Ok Sasha storytime 😳😳 I used to be in a piano class since I was 5 (I quit, but I still play just for fun). And I joined this competition when I was 9 and got selected as one of the finalists - and I was so fucking surprised bc jesus, I play averagely for all I can say... I’m not the best, but I’m definitely not the worst. But there was this messed up system where more familiar faces/winners would definitely be chosen. And despite some other kids messing up a lot, the MCs removed me first bc “Sorry, no one knows you around here. You played better than some others, but maybe if you talked more, you could win. No one really wants a winner they’re not familiar with.” I couldn’t really say anything. I knew they were right. So I left with a Certificate of Participation and not even proof that the judges chose me as a finalist. THIS particular event got me so fucked up for so long that I tried to get myself sick/injured so that I wouldn’t have to go to my piano classes for 4 weeks straight. Eventually, I pulled out after my exam and started playing for myself, with the songs that I enjoy, whenever I want. So,,, fuck those MCs and my teacher, I’m a bad bitch you can’t kill me 😎 *plays Superbass by Nicki Minaj* FEM!READER BELOW

duende. | haiba lev
summary: in which lev has no sense of direction, but finds a lone sugarplum fairy along the way.
word count: 2438
warnings: none
(n.) the feeling of profound awe experienced when viewing a piece of art, watching a performance or listening to music that has deeply moved a person
It’s difficult to tell precisely... but Lev was definitely lost.
It wasn’t his fault the school had to be so large! What’s the point of having so much staircases when they weren’t going to lead to one conjoined hallway? It was like a maze, except Lev knew he wasn’t getting anywhere near a familiar area.
Crap! he cursed, pawing nervously at his empty pant pocket. I left my phone in the clubroom.
Light was already fading from the west-side window and he hadn’t come across anyone for the past 15 minutes. He recalled something Taketora said about a part of the school being dead deserted. Was this that place? He couldn’t tell.
He was getting impatient. If Lev didn’t hurry up and submit his additional worksheets to Sakamatsu-sensei before sundown, it was over. Goodbye to the club’s training camp. Goodbye to becoming the greatest ace Nekoma has ever had. Goodbye to everything he ever cared about.
Instinct taking over, he ran as fast as his legs could carry him and called out to the empty hallways for someone. Anyone. “Hello?! Sakamatsu-sensei...?!”
And when the vacant corridors replied back to him, Lev stilled, frozen.
“...Piano?”
Alisa had told him something about ghosts once. It was right after she’d gone out to watch some horror movie with her friends. Lev couldn’t remember exactly her words, but his sister had “slept” with her eyes open that night and he wondered if he should be taking her advice seriously.
But this didn’t sound like a ghost. Something that sounded so beautiful wouldn’t have any murderous intention behind it... right?
The melody reminded Lev of those old ballets his grandmother would play on TV when she visited. Every glissando a delicate spin by one of the performers, and every perky note a tiny leap. He could almost see them, those beautiful dancers, and Lev wondered—if he were to trace the music to its source, would he find a charming sugarplum fairy waiting for him?
His feet were already ahead of his thoughts. Lev couldn’t even tell where he was in the gallery of clubrooms. His senses of direction numbed, he relied on his ears and the sweet, sweet melody of the piano that was getting warmer. And warmer. Warmer.
Hot.
“Or...chestra Club?” he read out, the placard’s kanji wrapping itself around his head. Peering through the rectangular window of the doors, Lev zeroed in on the bareness of the room, save for the large grand piano settled in the center.
This is the place... right? he thought, retreating slowly. No one’s here.
Looking around for good measure, Lev scratched his head. Ah, geez, I don’t even know where I am anymore. He reconsidered throwing away his curiosity and return to his quest for the third year’s Teacher’s Room before his Biology teacher could scold him for his incompetence. But the little fluff of hair peeking out from behind the piano swayed him over and he didn’t even stop to think when he barged through the doors.
“Fairy!”
The girl who squeaked in shock really did convince Lev for a millisecond that she was a fairy. Straight out of that stage his TV had replayed for him. Tiny in stature, eyes shining like morning dewdrops and fingers pressed again the white keys, thin and graceful as if you were producing magic. All excluding the lack of a pair of shimmering wings sprouted on her back, you were an enigma in this barren universe.
“I’m human,” you said, voice like air. Breezing and pushing like wind.
Lev approached the center of the room, speculating if your glamour would disappear if he were to come closer. “T-That song you played. That was from a ballet, right?”
“It’s Tchaikovsky,” you replied bluntly, grinning. “I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before, can’t recall... We’re not too familiar, but you’re awfully rude for a first year, aren’t you? At least address me with the proper suffixes if you’re going to assume my species like that, Giant-kun.”
Speak for yourself! he thought, becoming more and more amused by this fanciful person. “I mean, you don’t look like a high school student either—”
You, completely ignoring him, returned your attention the piano, playing another song. This one faster, more fluid. Seeing your hands up-close, Lev eyed the muted details of your hand. A gentle blush on its skin, illuminated by the sunlight from the large window sitting ajar. His sister would kill to have a hint at your manicure routine.
So this is what a pianist’s hands looks like.
“Oh, I remember now,” hands coming to a rest on your skirt, the fairy girl turned to him, as elegant as ever. Now that the room was silent, there was a nervousness that lingered in the air. “You’re one of Kuroo’s boys, aren’t you?”
Hearing the familiar name of the no-nonsense captain of the Volleyball Club, Lev perked up, “You know Kuroo-san?”
“Of course, we’re in the same class after all.”
Same class. That would mean—no way!
“Y-you’re older than me?!”
You gave him a bright smile. Added to your fairy-like personage, Lev couldn’t help but to notice that this upperclassman of his was aware of his existence. There was actually a girl—who was awfully cute and just his type if he thought about it—in this godforsaken school who knew about Nekoma’s ‘ace’, Haiba Lev.
This was a dream, right? No, he shouldn’t be saying such a thing. In fact, Lev had gotten so engrossed in this reality that he didn’t realize how much he was staring into your beautiful face before you piped up again.
“Oh, it’s almost time for me to lock up. I forgot to ask, did you need anything when you came in here?”
Wait, what time is it?!
Lev let out a strangled noise between a dying boar and a tearful sob. Collapsing on the floor before his worried senpai, he squeezed the papers in his hand. Oh, it was over now. Over, over, over. Hello wretched make-up exam, goodbye glorious training camp...
Kneeling down next to him, you peeked at his wincing face. “H-hey, are you okay? Is there anything I can do to help?”
Raising his head to look into your swirling eyes, Lev pursed his lips. Damn, you were totally going to think he was uncool after this. Grabbing you by the shoulders, he lowered his head in a bow.
“Senpai, could you show me the way to the third year’s teacher’s room? I’ve got an assignment to submit before 5 pm and I don’t know where I am! Please, senpai, I need to—”
No more words were exchanged when you grabbed Lev’s collosal hands in your delicate ones and dragged him through the door. You sped and hurtled down the corridors, bringing him along with you in this strange joyride. It was a funny sensation, similar to being towed around a park by a wild dog on a leash—except you weren’t a dog, but simply a shorter person whose size reminded him a bit of Yaku-san...
“S-Senpai—?!” he wheezed out, long legs pedalling in front of him. For someone nearly half his height, you were really fast; he wondered if you should’ve went for the Track and Field Club instead of the Orchestra Club.
Just as he had thought of letting go before you became a physical hazard to him, you skid to a halt in front of a door. Panting, you smiled up at him. “Here we are. Y-You’re not late, right?”
Eyes darting between the doors to the teacher’s office and you, the burning intention of a hug fuzzed out Lev’s brain—unfortunately, that would have to wait until later. Shoving the door open, he dashed inside the near-empty office and handed over his pile of crumpled assignments to the jaded Sakamatsu-sensei, face red.
Filing through the papers, the Biology teacher griped. “Well, all the assignments I asked for you to do are here... I’ll inform the Volleyball Club supervisor that you’ll be able to join the training camp this weekend.”
Saved. He was saved.
Exiting the office, he bowed before you—his fairy godmother—and murmured. “Thank you, senpai! You saved my life... ”
“Y-You’re welcome,” you said. “But I don’t think I went as far as “saving your life”, um... what was your name?”
“Haiba! Haiba Lev. Thank you so much!”
When you giggled, Lev heard the choirs of angels fill his head. God, he really wanted to hug you, stuff you in his pocket and bring you home with him to coo at and cuddle.
“The pleasure is mine, Haiba-kun. You’re an interesting person, you know? I’m glad we met.”
Lev really felt like he’d won the lottery. Was this finally his chance? Was he going to get a super cute, older girlfriend before his intolerable seniors? Unthinkable! Yet here he was, indulging in the soft smile of Nekoma’s resident sugarplum fairy, as if his entire gag reel of clumsy flukes never existed.
“Ah! I forgot to lock the doors to the clubroom!” you yelped. Even in panic, Lev thought you looked cute. “It was nice getting to know you, Haiba-kun. The main staircase is right over there, so you’ll be able to get back without getting lost. Be safe!”
Before he could offer his hand in accompanying you—at least being next to you for as long as possible—you had already sped off into an indistinct corner, the amber light of sundown fading with your shadow. And once again, Lev was alone.
Damn. He didn’t even ask for your name.
══════ ⋆★⋆ ══════
“You’re asking me... if I know a girl in my class called ‘Fairy-senpai’?”
The gaze in Lev’s green eyes were resolute. “Yes.”
Kuroo sighed, wiping off his sweat with a towel. Day by day, he swore, the first-years were getting more and more difficult to deal with. “Someone named Fairy who hangs around in that derelict part of the third floor sounds shady as hell. And what club did you say she was from?”
“Orchestra Club.”
“We have an Orchestra Club?”
Lev was getting nowhere with the rooster-headed captain; it was either that, or Kuroo was intentionally leading him to a dead-end out of sheer mischief. Anything could happen with him.
It had been a total of 18 hours since he’d last seen you, and Lev’s head had never felt any emptier. He’d startled his parents and Alisa enough by playing one of his grandmother’s ballet DVDs once he’d arrived home. But it wasn’t the same. Even the visual movements of the ballerinas and the skill of the ensemble didn’t amount to your solo rendition.
Yours was more natural, more sturdy. Something he could feel and see without opening his eyes or reaching out to it. Smitten with your performance, Lev slept that night, head filled with the thought of seeing you again, his little sugarplum fairy in the maze of doors and desolation. And maybe, he’d even get your number this time.
“She’s really good at the piano and has a twinkly smile. Fairy-senpai is a bit short too, really tiny,” Lev hesitated to continue, looking around for safety “... A bit like Yaku-san’s height.”
“What’s this I hear about my height? Hey, Lev! Why aren’t you practicing your digging receives?!”
Wincing at the stinging kick thrown at his back, Lev pouted miserably. Watching the poor behemoth being dragged away by the demonic upperclassman, an implausible feeling of pity struck through Kuroo, and he called out for the libero.
“A cute girl who looks like a fairy, can play the piano and is in the Orchestra Club? In our class?” Yaku repeated after Lev and Kuroo’s explanation. Tapping his chin in deep thought, he replied dubiously. “Doesn’t that sound a bit like L/N-san to you?”
“Ehh? L/N-chan can play the piano? I never knew that.”
Yaku clicked his tongue indignantly. “That’s because you barely talk to her. Maybe if you attended cleaning duty properly, you would’ve realized that when you’re paired up with her.”
The sound of his seniors bickering was already white noise to him. L/N. Repeating the syllables on his tongue, Lev tasted a sugary relish linger in his mouth. What a beautiful name. A fitting name, and suddenly, he already sensed that your first name would be just as wonderful.
“Though I’m impressed that you managed to get a full conversation out of L/N-san. Did you scare her or something?” Yaku snickered at Lev’s unappreciative scowl. “It’s just that L/N-san only says something when she’s required to. Otherwise... she’s really quiet. I’ve only heard her say ‘thank you’, ‘I’m sorry’, ‘yes’ and ‘no’ for the past three years, everything else we know about her comes from gossip.”
Lev’s chest swelled up and he smirked. “Maybe she likes younger guys like me.”
“I think she likes you because you’ve got nothing going on in your head at all,” the team captain scoffed attracting the giggles of his surrounding teammates. “You are right though, Lev. L/N-chan is a really cute person... I might get interested one of these days.”
“H-Huh?! C’mon, Kuroo-san! I’ve got dibs on her first!”
Nearly there, the captain thought. Lev’s ears were already burning red, a clear sign of his impulsive outburst. And when the timing was right, the Volleyball Club loved to use his recklessness for profit.
Crossing his arms in faux doubt, Kuroo shrugged. “I don’t know... I highly doubt you’ll attract her attention if you’re not even a regular on the team...”
Furrowing his brows deeply, Lev snatched a ball from the ground and stared deeply into the captain’s lacklustre eyes. “I-I’ll show you! I’ll become a regular on the team and the ace! That’s why I’m going to go practice right now, right, Yaku-san?!”
Even Yaku, completely amused and alarmed, had to do a double take. “R-Right... Do your best then.”
“I will!”
Chuckling at Lev’s shrinking back, Kuroo patted himself on the back for a job well done. Kenma, who had watched the entire nasty exchange go down, was stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Weakly punching his childhood friend on his shoulder, he grumbled. “Great... Now that he’s fired up about some girl, he’ll keep asking me for more tosses. Kuroo, if I pass out because of your ‘encouragement’, you’re paying for my health insurance.”
Lev couldn’t hear the new conversation happening between the team’s setter and the captain, but that didn’t matter right now. He was going to practice, become better, then the best. Then ask you out, his sugarplum fairy in the third floor’s Orchestra Club clubroom. Lev felt invincible.

„alpha, I think they’re coming tonight...“ he concentrated on the papers in front of him and just let out a hm. he knew they would come... the only safe place for his mate was in his arms and the highest priority to keep you safe. as the luna of the pack everyone wanted to protect you.
the one desiring you a rebellious werewolf of a rival pack called choi jong ho. it wasn’t unusual some wolfs tried to steal away mates and especially lunas from other packs if they were said to be gorgeous and in good shape for giving strong pups.
unfortunately you were quite the catch and the still unmated wolf wanted to steal you away from hong joong. the fresher the bond was the higher the chance to complete a mating process with another wolf and hong joong feared for that so much ...
as the night came you were cuddled in hong joong‘s arms in your bed and slowly drifting off to sleep. hong joong tried to steady his breathing to not interrupt you but when howls could be heard he knew it was about to begin. you stirred in your sleep and the young alpha took you bridal style into a secret room under the house. you shot him a questioning look and he hushed you with a sweet kiss.
„stay here my love and don’t make a sound.“
with that he left the house and changed into his wolf to fight off the scum that wanted to take his precious mate. he arrived at the borders where werewolves already lunged at each other and started to fight the intruders. after a while they managed to overpower the rival pack but hong joong noticed something really bad... where was jong ho? pure horror filled his mind when he ran back to his mate as fast as he could but he already was too late...
the attack only intended to distract him so jong ho could get you... he had been so dumb! he plumped to the ground and cried into his hands... his beta put a hand on his shoulder and sighed.
„we will get her back... she’s our luna.“

seong hwa usually was a calm boy with good manners. he tried to avoid fights at all costs although he was well skilled but when you and the black wolf went to the annual mate festival of your region a mistake was made.
jung woo young decided to attend the festival, too. a young wolf that once trained with seong hwa back in an advanced camp for skilled fighters. seong hwa and woo young had quite the problematic relationship ship as the younger one loved to get on his nerves all the time. seong hwa didn’t really know why woo young hated him so much... but when he saw him being accompanied by some of his friends entering the area his grip around your waist automatically became stronger.
he tried to avoid the younger like a plague but eventually you had to go to the toilet some time and that’s when woo young took his chance. he ordered his friends to attack seong hwa and distract him so he could get you when you left the restrooms.
„what are you d-“ a cloth has been out over your nose and mouth and you fell unconscious at the scent that drifted off of it.
you awakened in a room handcuffed to a bed still dizzy and your wolf already scared and sick worried for your mate. „where’s seong hwa? where’s our mate, y/n?“
„so you’re awake, love“ a boy came through the door and emerged your form on the bed with confident steps.
„who are you?! and why am I here?“ you struggled and tried to shift but something stopped you from doing so.
„don’t even try. those are magical cuffs. I brought you here because I am going to make you mine.“ he smirked at you and crawled on top of you securing your hands above you with a tight grip. you tried to struggle out but he just laughed at you and neared your neck with his emerged fangs.
„this is going to hurt a little bit, well at least I‘ve heard that...“ you cried out loud when he left a deep dirty mark over your mate‘s one.
„s-seong hwa...”

jeong yun ho had everything... the looks, the popularity and the prettiest girl out of the pack. yeo sang could only scoff at the way he was holding hands with you at his birthday party and having this dumb grin on his face whenever you would say something or someone would compliment the two of you. he was sick of it.
how much he’d like to wipe that smirk off his face... if he just wouldn’t have you... maybe than he wouldn’t be so happy anymore.
„yeo sang? don’t you want your birthday present now?“ he flinched a little bit don’t realizing you were standing in front of him smiling so sweetly. oh how he loved you, you and him were the best friends until mr. lover came.
„do I?“ your eyebrows furrowed at his words not really getting his hostility.
„don’t be like this... come on! I want to show you something!“ you grabbed his hand and left the place with him to bring you two to your old favorite secret spot deep in the forest where a little pond was located. yeo sang couldn’t believe what he saw, you managed to put candles everywhere and prepared something like a picnic but with a bottle of tequila.
„why did you do that?“
„why not? it’s your birthday and I thought we could take a swim again; you know, like back when we were younger... and you looked pretty bored back at the party.“ you shyly fiddled with your fingers thinking it was a bad idea. yeo sang on the other hand found it really cute that you were thinking he didn’t appreciate your afford.
he smiled at you and started to get out of his shirt. you smirked at him and soon you were giggling and playing in the water. why couldn’t every day be like this again... or maybe it could be? after some time the playing turned into something more heated and you soon realized that your wolf wasn’t really into another man touching you at places he shouldn’t... you struggled out of his touch but yeo sang let his inner beast free and dragged you back to the land to crawl over you and leave marks all over your neck and breast while holding you still.
you being paralyzed tried to scream or cry but nothing came out, too shocked at yeo sang’s actions. suddenly yun ho ripped the boy off your body and back to the ground, growling so loud yeo sang changed into his wolf. yun ho felt that something was wrong and knowing where you wanted to bring yeo sang he decided to check and seeing the boy harassing you made his blood boil.
a fight began and yun ho definitely was a lot bigger than yeo sang and used this to win over the other wolf. finally yeo sang stopped and crawled back to a tree licking his wound.
„if you ever lay a finger on her again I won’t hesitate to snap you neck!“

yeo sang usually has been a very cautious wolf and knew his mate was a beauty around the female wolves. you still being unmarked and not mated with yeo sang, yet, got flirting remarks here and there. his friends told him that there was a boy from the rival pack, where you originally belonged to, that was still after you. his name was jeong yun ho.
to his bad luck at a night out with your and his friends yun ho happened to be in the club, too. yeo sang didn’t know the guy that suddenly went to the dance floor wrapping his arm around your waist and whispering something into your ear. yeo sang trusted you and hoped you would get out of the situation on your own but when he saw you searching for him in the location his wolf told him he had to help you. he should mark his territory and only once not back up.
without realizing he stood up and emerged your forms on the dance floor. the atmosphere changed and people made space for you.
„haha, don’t tell me this is the fool you were leaving me for?“ yun ho placed his chin on the top of your shoulder and smirked provocatively at your mate.
„let go yun ho! he’s my mate!“
„yeah, but he didn’t even try to make this official... maybe he just doesn’t want you as much as me?“
„take your hands off her or I will make you.“
yeo sang’s friends and yun ho’s were gathering behind the boys ready to attack. although yeo sang was quite scared he felt the urge to be brave for you. yun ho let go of you and positioned you behind him.
„tell me, little boy... why didn’t you marked or mated with her yet? you aren’t man enough for her!“
„why do you think I have to rush those kind of things? not everyone’s a dick like you fucking around and thinking a bond can only be made by doing those things. what connects me and y/n is much deeper and I know you are someone who will never understand those kind of things...“
people whistled and howled at yeo sang’s words and girls swooned over the young wolf. yun ho‘s cocky attitude slipped. he wasn’t used to be put down like that only knowing one way to win a fight. before he could take a hold of himself the bodyguards of the club interrupted the scene and everyone went their own way again, you two deciding to leave.
yeo sang drove in silence and you took his one hand to put it into your lap.
„you know, I never knew you thought of our relationship like that... I really like it.“ yeo sang sensed you blushing beside him and his wolf felt proud at your words.
„it’s because I value you as the person I love and we are the only ones who make the rules for our relationship.“
you smiled at him, knowing you couldn’t get a better mate like kang yeo sang.

hong joong knew he had to have you. a white wolf was considered to have best genes to bear strong pups. the first time he saw you he deeply fell in love... just when he planned to confess to you and make you his luna you found your mate, choi san. a dirty omega of your own pack. hong joong had been devastated... but he heard of a way to make you his and he decided he would do anything to get you.
„let go of me!“
„what’s wrong with her, why is she struggling so much? y/n? do you hear me? you’re safe now! kim hong joong kidnapped you but we managed to free you from his pack!“ jong ho didn’t know what was wrong with you but when he saw the look on san‘s face he knew his heart literally broke at the sight his mate acted like that.
„y/n, my love... don’t you recognize me? what did that bastard do to you?!“
„who - who the hell are you?!“
„me...? I am your mate, oh my god, what did they do...“ he stroked you face while they bondaged you to the wall in the dungeon not knowing how to cope with your fighting against them.
„you have to be delusional. I don’t know you and my mate is kim hong joong. now let me go!“
he stopped in his tracks and sadly watched you crying and being scared of his touch. san didn’t know what was going on... seong hwa entered the room overhearing the talking outside.
„I didn’t even know this was possible... but I think y/n’s under a spell. a strong spell to admit, possibly done by a witch.“
„what the fuck? how did they got a witch to do that?“
„I don’t know... but only a witch can heal her. we can rescue her but I won’t need to tell you that it’s going to be hell dangerous.“
„you know I would do anything for my mate!“ they both nodded at san and exchanged looks to leave him a little bit alone with you. you scoffed at the boy pretending to be your mate when he neared your form on the ground.
„don’t worry my love, I will find a way.“ his eyes watered at your bored stare...
hong joong was in his office looking over some notes when his beta opened the door.
„everything‘s going well. they have her but she doesn’t remember san.“ hong joong devilishly smirked at him and dismissed him with a swift wave of his hand.
soon you would be back in his bed and he could complete the marking and mating; a prestigious future awaitening the two of you.

it wasn’t a secret the light and the shadow pack always had a big disput, maybe even linked to their contrary names... they always competed against each other; like the girls comparing who had the more prettier ones, the boys fighting against each other or alone the two alphas getting on each others’ nerves whenever there was a chance.
song min gi also participated in those horseplays and his favorite opponent from the rival pack was the beta park seong hwa. they always teased each other, hyping eachother up who could run faster, have more girls, win more fights, kill off more rogues and hunters... it all ended soon when min gi found his mate, y/l/n y/n. you found the antics your pack made silly and were quite shocked when you and min gi turned out to be mates, but he changed for you.
much to the displease of park seong hwa. he was literally bored, hearing from the omegas that min gi found his mate and didn’t want to compete with him anymore...
wolves were really prideful and always in for a strength measurement, it practically was anchored in their nature. as seong hwa was a boy who cared for nothing he decided he wanted his fun back, so he made a plan to kill you. having an angry min gi would mean he would feel the urge to fight against him again.
it was one night when you went for a run in the woods. you still were on your territory but far away from the zivilisation of your pack. seong hwa took his chance and attacked you. he managed to cut deep into your waist with his fangs and licked his blood smeared snout when you tried to limp into the direction of your home. you let out a loud howl in the hope someone heard you.
min gi instantly awakened knowing something was off. he changed into his wolf form and sped into the direction he could make out your scent. he mind-linked the guards who told him they were on their way.
„y/n? where are you?“
turning around another tree there were you. your fury neck between seong hwa‘s canines ready to break it.
„what are you doing you bastard!“ but it already was too late when he lunged forward and seong hwa bit hard into your flesh. you let out a howl, luckily the guards arrived and seong hwa knew he couldn’t win this fight. min gi was about to join the others in hunting the beta but his wolf held him back and urged him to get to you. he changed back into his human form tears already running down his face like a waterfall.
„oh no, my dear y/n...“ you were really lucky seong hwa wasn’t able to break your neck and your genes speeding up the healing process, but you had to be stationed into the pack hospital for over four weeks being put into a artificial coma.
„y/n, I am swearing this time was enough... the alpha said there‘s going to be a war. I promise you no one will ever hurt you again because I am going to kill park seong hwa.“ he took your hand into his kissing the top of it. every day he came to the hospital sitting by your side and speaking to you...
park seong hwa crossed a border and min gi would make sure he would pay for it.

although choi san has been from a pack his own wasn’t on good terms so much. the two had been the best friends since one could think of. that’s why woo young wouldn’t have ever thought san would make a move on his own mate...
it was typical night back at your and woo young‘s apartment only san being there this time as all your other friends either canceled or have been too engulfed into the heating session this spring. your waves came occasionally but as you mate took care of you yesterday you were certain this evening nothing would happen.
„oh shit, I forgot the salsa sauce!“ your’s and san‘s gaze drifted off the couch to where woo young was searching in the refrigerator.
„you know there‘s no chance we‘re eating tortillas without salsa.“
„yeah, just start the movie... I am driving to the store and get some. I won’t take too long!“
he took his keys and gave you a last quick peck on your lips to leave, not noticing san‘s eyes focused a little bit too much on the little gesture. after some minutes you playing with your phone and occasionally watching the movie you gasped when you suddenly felt san‘s hand at your slit. just when you wanted to shout at him, smack him or anything out of shock a deep wave of pleasure came over you.
it was risky. female wolves sending off vibes to the male ones in heat... not only the mate could smell the arousing scent but the others, too. that’s why mated pairs usually sticked to each other at those times. what san was doing at this moment was the shittiest thing someone could do, not only betraying his friend like this but taking advantage of your vulnerable state, too.
he smirked at your moaning form you not being able to do anything but melting into his touch... you hated it but your body betrayed you because of the stupid animal in you.
„s - san, please, stop...“
„you don’t mean that. you know, I think I could make you moan my name louder than woo‘s able to.“ your eyes widen at his statement
„w - what do you mean.“ he only increased his pressure on your sensitive spot and neared your ear to tickle it with his hot breath „I mean, the times I slept over... you don’t really think I didn’t hear you?“ you blushed at that. a tear escaped you and you just hoped he would end this nonsense...
„what the actual - “ woo young let the bag fall to the ground and you heard the glass splitter. he lunged forward and grabbed san by his hair to smash him into the wall, a picture crashing down in the process.
„you motherfucker! what do you think you’re doing with my mate?!“ his fist meets san‘s cheek and the boy grins while blood is tickling down his chin
„you’re my bestfriend! you damn know she’s in heat!“
„I am not your bestfriend! I just waited for the chance to destroy you! the alpha told me how your pack uses every chance to discriminate us! and I know to hurt you I have to take what you love the most...“ his gaze drifts to your still shaking form on the couch. woo young follows his gaze and feels his canines grow at the statement. he watches san and just feels anger and betrayal but instead of snapping his neck he let go of him.
„fuck off. if I every see you on our land again I will kill you. and don’t dare to look into her direction ever again!“ with that san leaves the place and you put your face into your hands too ashamed of what happened.
„y/n...“
„don’t! I am disgusting! I couldn’t hold myself back I really tried and fought but I wasn’t strong enough... I am so sorry woo young... I don’t deserve you.“ you hiccuped and cried but woo young managed to get your face into his own hands staring deeply into your eyes.
„it wasn’t your fault, he knew what time it is and took advantage of it... I would never doubt your love and loyalty to me.“ he took you into his arms and let you cry into him. what really hurt the most was the fact the his once best friend hated him from the beginning... he knew you could never hurt him like he did.

„choi jong ho! you didn’t really put a bet on me? I am definitely not going on a date with this guy!“
„of course you won’t go... min gi cheated I just have to prove this...“
„you know what? fuck off, if you’re handling me like I am a damn trophy or something like that I will go on that stupid date and we will see how you’re coping with that!“
„y/n, please wait!“ jong ho tried to stop you but you were already emerging min gi and his friends position right over the fighting field. you knew he came from a rival pack and since the fightings started he glanced over at you from time to time. your wolf tried to stop you and told you it was a dumb idea to anger your mate more than he already was but you knew jong ho lost and a debt had to be paid.
„stop!“
„don’t make a fool out of yourself, jong ho. I could smell y/n‘s arousal back over here when you told her the news!“ his friends snickered behind him and you were embarrassingly blushing at his statement although you were sure none other than your mate himself could make you feel this way.
an idea plopped into jong ho‘s mind. he knew min gi was too much into competitions. „how about a rematch? you can have her for one night but only if you’re able to catch her the first when she’s hiding in the forest.“
your eyes widened at your mate‘s statement. now he really lost all of his brain.
„choi jong h-“
„alright.“ huh? you really didn’t know who was dumber...
but you soon found yourself running into the forest and searching for a good hiding place. min gi and jong ho got themselves ready to hunt you. jong ho mentally smiled to himself, min gi was unmated and didn’t know what your mates scent smelled like... it was the most delicious thing a wolf‘s nose could ever encounter. he definitely would be able to get to you sooner than the dumb boy.
they started to rush through the woods and jong ho luckily already got a good track of your smell and followed the trail to you. and it came how it had to come. jong ho won the battle and min gi was so furious he crashed down a whole tree to get rid off his anger; his friends scolding him off being so dumb to join another competition and losing the date with you.
you were currently cuddled in jong ho‘s lap back in the pack house. he buried his nose into your neck and sighed.
„I am still mad, you know?“ you turned your head to look at him and saw him pouting at you knowing it was your sweet spot for him.
„I am going to be a good mate from now on.“
„no competitions?“
„no competitions anymore, promise.“
„hey, jong ho! the others want you to join us in arm-wrestling-“ jong ho just was about to push you out of his lap when you scoffed at him to which the stopped in his tracks.
„haha, right... no competitions anymore. but for how long?“ you rolled with your eyes laughing out... what a mate you got.

the idea of making hc’s of children is sosososo cute. i’ll follow ur steps chloe @akaashit-baeji lolol this is gonna be really self-indulgent buuut my excuse is that it’s my birthday so here it goes... i'm writing the last half of this with a hangover and a bad case of dysmenorrhea... sucks 2 be me
Oikawa Teru (及川 輝)
Tumblr media
his name “輝“ means “bright”, and this boi lives up to it because, let’s face it, he’s gonna be like his dad. he embodies this “brightness”, in a way that he’s smart, and he makes sure he and his team’s (or whichever team he’s going to be in) will shine on the court
wavy/curly hair and a victim of my and his dad’s astigmatism. always has this cheeky smile, and he gets my brimming energy so he’s really approachable and charming
very good with words; it’s like he always knows what to say
when he plays he also wears contact lenses
but don’t be fooled. in their generation, it’s him who has to put iwaizumi’s son in check. he knows everything about his teammates too, he knows more than what he lets on (which sometimes, they find creepy, but they all know he means well)
anyway, unlike his dad, he doesn’t really mind having geniuses around. instead, he watches them very closely; something like “mutualism”. he knows what he lacks and he knows he can learn from them too, vice versa.
is into horror games. in his free time, he and his sister take turns playing. and they decide it by seeing who can last the longest without flinching/screaming. he’s annoyed because his sister’s better at it
has fans, ngl. i mean look at him. however, the female fans especially, are pretty on guard. he’s approachable, but anytime they see him with his sister... they back out. he doesn’t mind, he loves his sister and it actually amuses him. he’s the same when it comes to the boys who hang around her too!
basically protective siblings who are always there for eo
is very neat. can’t concentrate when something is out of place. he keeps his nails short, has a somewhat flowery scent. yes, he uses female perfumes because he despises strong smells.
bug-catching was his childhood hobby just like mine’s was. used to sneak beetles in iwaizumi’s son’s backpack back then
he will never admit it but he actually asks his sister for fashion tips because his taste sucks ass so bad
basically his major problem or issue in life is getting compared to his father (he’s also a setter). he hates that so much, being hidden in the shadow of his dad, and when people just recognize him for being oikawa tooru’s son.
something he and ushijima’s child relate to so strongly. they’re friendly rivals; might end up being teammates in their career hmm
so when he’s the one stressed, he skips practice for a day just so he could recollect his thoughts. usually stays in the library to read books he picked up based on the titles; might either open up to iwa or his sister later on, it depends. then when he’s okay, he doubles the amount of training
Oikawa Rie (及川 麗恵) it’s /ri-ye/ oki
Tumblr media
so the kanjis are: "麗" meaning, beautiful and "恵" is blessed. tooru thought of this name obviously
also has curly hair like mine. has that tiny mole below her eye just like i do. actually has lots of moles over her body; one time she fell asleep on the couch her brother drew connecting lines between the moles on her arm and called them constellations. it was nice she thought but still, the next day, teru had to wear a band-aid over his nose bridge.
she’s just a year younger. is less “vibrant” than her brother, a bit more serious. has a resting bitch face and she’s not even sorry about it and i love her for that
she’s actually relieved she looks like that, or else she knows the girls in her class would flock to her just to get in her brother’s pants. usually brushes them off with “ask him, not me” or “do you think that’s any of my concern?”
her tongue her words damn never get to this baby girl’s bad side she’s gonna burn you alive. like fr when she’s angry, oh she’s gonna show you that she’s angry. but tbh she's very sweet, leaves little notes or little gifts to her friends every now and then
she just doesn’t want her brother’s heart to be broken (she’s heard stories from her mom about her dad’s many hs exes), and she knows teru’s struggles
therefore
doesn’t really like volleyball that much. it’s because she didn’t get to grow up with her dad around, she felt like it separated her from him. she’s not mad at him though. she’s very supportive of him and her brother.
used to play vb though when they were kids. but that’s all it was for her
she’s the team’s honorary manager lol the occasional “i brought you guys sumn” or “something-kun, a girl from my class says she likes you so do your best” etc
the team’s lil sister how bout that
despite being tolerant of horror games, this girl is vvvv squeamish. she cries at the sight of internal organs or blood. biology lab was the worst time of her life
when she dug up my hs videos she was shook to discover i once did theater. and thus begins her interest in theater too
and??? baby girl is actually???? really really good????
the girls she used to shut down nicknamed her “prima”, short for “prima donna” she hates it. hates it more when her closest theater buddy was the one who spread that around
immediately went to the gym to spike some balls from her brother. baby girl was crying because she was just so pissed.
she was given ice cream and sweets afterwards. ugh it’s so cute idk she’s baby to the team skksksk they protecc
in that upcoming play, her first ever performance, the whole team got front row seats and howled when she came on during curtain call; it was vvv sweet and memorable even if the guys were kinda reprimanded afterwards lmao
which is why, in return, boiis also have a hard time approaching her because damn??? the vb team as your knights???? excuse me???
oh have i mentioned she has a sweet tooth? mygod. she has a stash of sweets in her room. teru has had to sneak some away because she might get tooth aches or diabetes
her pastel nail polish is arranged by shade, her body clock is fucked up lmao she hates the mornings; has succulents by her window which she names after various characters from books/plays etc she’s for sure gonna be a theater actress tho
asks help from iwa’s son for math. even her brother’s 0% help. teru is smart but a terrible teacher. she’s an above-average student and that’s all that matters for her. she can leave the spotlight to her brother because she only craves one type of spotlight
Miya Seiichi (宮 聖一) and Miya Seiji (宮 聖二)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
their names literally mean “聖” sacred then “一” is one, and “二” is two
atsumu thought it was funny. when they were kids, seiichi’s nickname was “juan” and seiji’s was “tutu” (i gave them the nicknames)
when the twins discovered the meaning behind the nicknames, they hated it. especially seiji, he despises it vvv much
so when they were hs, seiichi = chi, seiji = ji for the people they're close with
as we can see here, the twins unfortunately got my curls. seiichi likes his hair as is. he doesn’t like the thought of dyeing his hair just to be differentiated from his twin. in fact he enjoys twin jokes, enjoys tripping people up about it. seiji on the other hand, grew tired of his brother’s jokes and by the time hs started, he sacrifices his soft hair.
between the two, seiji is the one who has my ugly eyesight. add to the fact that he reads a lot (once he starts he can’t put it down. so he reads in the dark, in a moving car etc)
the piercings was a thing that happened between them, and their cousins (which were also twins wtf)–it was a 2v2 vb thing and they lost
surprisingly, the cousins weren't pleased bc atsumu didn't scold them for getting piercings (but for playing half-heartedly). seiichi wanted the piercings tho tbh it was the perfect excuse. ngl, seiji also wanted them.
first let's talk abt seiichi, aside from the fact he also got my mole (he feels it makes him look cuter tho)
seiichi's into vb, but not a setter. he's the ace. may or may not push through with it as a career. he hasn't decided yet. is actually a bit sad that seiji didn't join the vb club in hs, he wanted them to be like his dad and uncle.
seiichi doesn't have any uh, quirks like shutting the whole cheer squad up like his dad does. but he usually dribbles the ball five times before any serve (this is something i did before) and he likes the 'ooooh hey' thing the crowd does when he goes for a serve
his side of the room doesn't have much stuff going on except workout equipment. he follows what exercise plan i give him as da PT mom that i am, and he is very strict with his diet and with what he eats–he's close to not needing a calorie counter anymore; but not a picky eater. he loves his uncle's cooking very much and he is jealous he can't cook even if he tries
he can do beatboxing, he learned it through youtube lmao his spotify playlists are da bombest; he learns a lot in youtube tho in his free time. his current interest is magic tricks and french (he thinks he can use it to woo that girl from class 4)
he hates insects, and hates mess. he has had to scold his twin about it that it escalated to them having this imaginary line in the middle of the room
anyway, he's straightforward. but not rude. he just doesn't like any pretenses so he says what he thinks or feels is right. may or may not have led to some misunderstandings, but he owns up to his mistakes if he crossed a line
next, seiji
even if he looks like a nerd with his glasses tbh he is not he actually hates studying. you can love reading without having to love studying right? he's that dude
the only time that he regrets dyeing his hair was when he realizes couldn't change identities so his brother could take his exam for him
his side of the room is littered with his sketches, notes from books, pencils everywhere – he drew a bunch of ants one time on a paper and made it look like they're real ass ants and placed it on seiichi's pillow
to solve this problem, atsumu has planned to give him a tablet for his next birthday
quits vb in hs because he kinda lost interest? he still finds it fun but he doesn't wanna be put under the pressure that his dad and uncle left for them lmao
he's in art clubs tho
he designs banners/posters for the team anyway. they use his strategic mind from the shit he's read for any plays and stuff so when he's not drawing, he's thinking
he might look like he has no emotions, but tbh he is more emotional and empathetic than his brother. he cries easily over the simplest things, like those grandparents vids, or rescuing animals and stuff
and thats why he doesn't let people in too much bc he knows he'll be hurt (dw seiichi knows this vvv well, and even if they do have arguments, he loves his lil bro and helps him about this)
has once begged to have a cat at home–seiichi didn't want bc he knows his twin is gonna leave him for clean up lmao
he can cook period.
he's gonna either be an architect or an animator, still hasn't decided.
his music taste sucks lmao. his youtube recents are filled with cooking stuff; in constant conversation with his uncle abt cooking lol it be cute sometimes atsumu is jealous bc he feels his son is closer to his brother than with him
he is forgetful that's why his stuff is messy lol he keeps misplacing stuff, sometimes it's literally in front of him and he's just 'where????'
but remembers dates well, remembers plays well. he's good at nitpicking tiny nearly insignificant details. just anything outside studying? he's good. dw he passes his classes but he hates giving effort for that shit lololol

Sittin' on the counter in your kitchen Can you hear my heartbeat fucking kickin'? Your eyes light up 'cause you best believe that I got something up my sleeve I walk my talk, no time for wishful thinking I push up on my toes, you call me "sweet thing" And breathing down your neck, your body screaming And you thought that you were the boss tonight, but I can put up one good fight I flip the script like I can take a beating
And when you start to feel the rush A crimson headache, aching blush And you surrender to the touch, you'll know I can put on a show, I can put on a show Don't you see what you're finding? This is heaven in hiding, oh...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zB6oIdz_ZXo
I’m on a Halsey kick ya’ll... and this song is... wow... so... strong and sensual but empowering since I think it defies what people expect from young women... I think that’s the point. And Amy lives for that, she’s defiant by nature, vibrant and unapologetic. Which is why she appreciates the more glamorous things in life and is attracted to the darkness since the mystique is something she feels she is a part of and wants everyone to see, that she’s a mystique herself.
Now... Amy’s no stranger to things like that, sexism, discrimination, prejudice, hell even racism. Starting from when she was a child, everyone thought she was quirkless, and she was either bullied, ignored or pitied like some helpless little thing, which she HATED. Which is one of the factors of why she misbehaved often in school and acted up. Ooh boy but when she discovers that she isn’t quirkless but that she’s actually a witch... is where it all begins...
She loves her magic, instantly began to try it out nce she discovered it but had to keep it under wraps because her mom was afraid that people wouldn’t understand it, since only a small handful of heroes knew about the existence of witches.  Then she also feared that witch hunters were going to find her, and sadly her fears came to fruition as Amy’s parents are slaughtered, with her mother being burnt to the stake, as they had done to witches back in the day.
And sadly the heroes had her shipped off to America, where she sees things somehow even WORSE, and her life became a little horror story. Amy was both hardened and empowered during this time period, she snapped and went insane but learned how to fend for herself and became a stronger, more confident and experienced young lady. Upon returning to Japan, she makes sure to show this off, a witch in hero society, she wondered ‘what will they think of that?’ and it wasn’t very good.
She’s “not cute enough”, she’s “too harsh”, she’s “not a real girl is she?”, she’s “too aggressive/too bitchy”, she “doesn’t have a pretty smile”, her “body isn’t healthy”, she’s “too scary to be a hero”.
Even today, Amy still gets a lot of scrutiny from the media just because if she’s not a helpless little girl or a cute little heroine, then she’s an aggressive and nasty witch bitch, as shown in the Sports Festival. Everyone at first thought she was a cute and ditsy girl and they felt bad for her when they thought she was going to get beaten up by Todoroki, but then they started looking at her like she’s some kind of scary monster when she demonstrated a new power and nearly destroyed him.
Afterwards her classmates (including Bakugo) were AFRAID since she would’ve won had the new power not overwhelmed and exhausted her physically. Were they impressed? VERY. But were they all scared? Yes... because her power... quite literally exploded and she seemed like just a doofy and harmless girl, but no... she’s dangerous...
Unfortunately... some of her own peers thought for a time that she couldn’t be trusted because well later on she did throw a plus ultra magical fit and almost killed a friend, but she... kinda had her reasons and she was under a lot of emotional distress at the time. Doesn’t excuse it, but partially justifies it.
Now she doesn’t fit the categories of what society wants heroes and heroines to be like, but Amy is learning to be perfectly fine with that. She feels empowered by being herself, by not conforming and being a ‘perfect little girl’, she’s emotional, she’s angry, she’s aggressive, she’s sexual and she can put up one hell of a fight if some poor sap provokes her. Older men think she should be ‘nicer’ but Amy says that “no man is the boss of her”
Sure she still has her own issues that she’s learning to overcome and deal with, but she empowers herself by staying true to herself.
She’s still learning though, to love herself since that’s one of her biggest issues, but she feels empowered by being different, by defying how society wants girls to be perfect and innocent, because Amy isn’t innocent. In some ways she CAN be innocent especially when it comes to loving people. However, she doesn’t feel innocent and thinks it’s probably a good thing, which is why she surrounds herself in black and normally wears some black almost all the time and something witchy to embrace her magic. She views black as the color of elegance and darkness, and in darkness she feels she can thrive in it because while she hasn’t had the greatest life, she still feels empowered in a sense by the darker aspects that she’s seen and experienced. She doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty if it means demonstrating her power, which is also why there’s blood splatters and pink flower petals from her psionic energy and feminine energy that she embraces. By doing this, Amy doesn’t feel so weak or submissive, and she loves it, she loves to put up a fight and show that she’s a force to be reckoned with.
She’s still got a soft spot though, her power is colored pink for a reason, she also embraces love, because love is what she believes in more than anything. She’s still learning too though... to love herself and to continue to believe that she matters.
Cuz I’m heaven in hiding...

The Stepford Game (Part 2)
(This story features elements of brainwashing, mind control, physical transformation, stepfordization, and reality warping)
Carrie still couldn’t believe what was happening. It all felt like her wildest dream had been brought to life. She had bought some old board game, one about 50s housewives trying to make their way to a barbecue, but once she and her friends started playing it.... Well, it seemed as though the game was magic. Or cursed, as her best friend Vivian called it. Whenever a card in the board game was drawn and read out loud, it affected reality. First, Carrie’s short, unpainted nails were made cherry red and given a perfect manicure. Then Vivian’s jet black hair was swept up into a beautiful red ponytail, tied up with a cute little bow. The last change so far, as far as anyone was aware, was Mariah’s basketball jersey and shorts being stripped off and replaced by a gorgeous satin green evening dress, along with an elegant shawl. Mariah wasn’t too happy about it, but Carrie found herself staring at the ensemble with a mixture of jealousy and, well… A fair bit of lust!
She had always sort of enjoyed the 1950s housewife aesthetic, deep down. She didn’t much talk about it, since it was odd to most folks, but Carrie often had dreams of being a doting housewife, living in a suburban paradise and caring for her dream husband. And seeing her friend lose her sporty clothing and be forced to wear such a pretty vintage outfit… Well, that stirred something in Carrie’s loins. Meanwhile, Linh, the fourth girl in the group, was still looking exactly the same as she did that morning. But as the only girl who landed on one of the Stepford Game’s “reality spaces”, her own history, the very fabric of reality, had been altered, and nobody could remember the way things used to be. As soon as she read the card out loud, Linh’s workaholic, cold hearted mother was transformed into the perfect sitcom housewife, straight from the 1950s. Linh, who originally longed for her mother’s affection, had now grown up being doted on by a regular June Cleaver! And she wanted to be a housewife now, just like her mother. But now it was time for Carrie’s second turn, and she held the dice with bated breath. What kind of space would she land on? Would she get a pretty 1950s style dress, like the one that Mariah was huffing about in? Or would her drab blonde pixie cut be transformed, like Vivian’s hair had been? Would she get a reality card, like Linh? Or would she land on the third type of space, the mysterious “chore space”? She took a deep breath, rolled the dice, and moved her game piece along the board as everyone watched in anticipation. “Chore space,” Carrie said slowly. She glanced around the circle, and met the eyes of each of her friends. Mariah looked worried, Vivian looked curious, and Linh, well… Linh looked like she was having the time of her life. Linh hummed happily as she handed the top card from the chore pile to Carrie, who then read it out loud for all to hear. “Scrub-A-Dub-Dub. Your husband is on his way home, and you forgot to wash the dishes! No time now to run the dishwasher, you’ll have to scrub them all by hand! Better hurry!” When Carrie looked up, she blanched. Just a second ago, she had been sitting on the floor of Linh’s bedroom. But after reading the card, she was standing in what seemed to be a classic 1950s style kitchen, but one of the walls was missing. Where the wall should be, there was instead a wall-to-wall window. On the other side was Linh, Vivian, and Mariah, still in the bedroom, and watching her with wide eyes. Before anyone could say something, there was a loud buzzing noise, and the clock on the wall started ticking down. Below the clock was a sink filled with dirty dishes. They must have been stacked up three feet! And on Carrie’s hands were a pair of thick, pink rubber gloves. Without thinking, Carrie dashed over to the sink and turned the hot water on. She began scrubbing dish after dish with soapy water, silently praying that she would finish them before her time ran out. She hadn’t checked the rules to see how the chore challenges worked, but she remembered seeing something about a “punishment” if someone failed. Dish after dish, Carrie scrubbed off all the dirt and grime, then set them on the other side of the counter to dry. She could feel herself start to sweat, and her forehead went clammy. She didn’t even have time to check the clock, but she could hear the girls on the other side of the window cheering her on. Or, rather, she could hear Linh cheer her on while Mariah and Vivian watched in fearful silence. Eventually, Carrie heard Vivian whisper “come on, hurry up!”, and her nerves started to fray even more. And that’s when Carrie slipped up. She grabbed another plate, the very last one in fact, and started to scrub it, but once it was clean, it slipped right out of Carrie’s hands and fell onto the floor, where it shattered into a million pieces. Carrie stared in horror at the shards that littered the floor, and then the buzzer went off, and the door to the kitchen opened. “Honey, I’m home!” It was Kent! Her boyfriend? But what was he doing here? How was he a part of the game? Magic. Of course. It was a magic game, and she was in a fake little kitchen set, so naturally there would be a fake husband too. And he just so happened to look and sound like her boyfriend who she was on the rocks with, albeit wearing a suit and tie, with a briefcase in hand. “What’s this, then?” Kent asked, looking at the broken dish, and then giving Carrie a stern look. “Carol, what did you do?” “I-I’m sorry?” She stammered. Carrie glanced at the window, where all three of her friends, even Linh, were looking worried. “I lost, didn’t I?” “You made a mess!” Kent exclaimed, exasperated. He stuck his hands on his hips for a moment as he thought about what to do, and then he grabbed Carrie by the wrist. He sat down in one of the kitchen chairs and bent Carrie over his lap. No matter how much she struggled, his grip was just too tight, but not painfully so. But then he brought his open hand down on her bottom, and Carrie gasped as a loud “smack” rang out. “Oh, hell no,” Mariah said. “Carrie? Carrie are you okay?” Vivian asked. “Oh, he’s spanking her! That’s what daddy does whenever mom breaks a dish!” Linh said with a giggle. Carrie, however, stayed perfectly silent as Kent’s double spanked her again. And again. And again. It went on for what felt like an eternity, but Carrie didn’t resist after that first whack on the ass. Each slap that he brought down on her bottom made Carrie heat up just a touch more than the last, and she was already blushing as red as a beet. She had never fantasized about being spanked before, but right then and there, Carrie realized just how wonderful each additional stroke felt. Down in her pants, she felt herself growing slick, and it took all of her willpower not to moan with pleasure. But eventually her punishment came to an end, and when Carrie opened her eyes, she found herself sitting on a sore bottom, back in Linh’s bedroom, with all eyes on her. If it was possible to blush any brighter, she would. Meanwhile, Carrie’s red game piece moved back two spaces, without being touched by anyone, just the game’s magic. “Carrie… Are you alright?” Vivian asked, grabbing Carrie’s hand to show her concern for her best friend. “Y-yeah, I-I’m fine,” Carrie said, still coming down from the high of being brought so close to, well… To reaching the top of that hill. “Let’s just keep going, okay? Linh?” “Oh right, it’s my turn now!” Linh said. She rolled the dice, and moved her tiny purple housewife forward another three spaces, landing on the same wardrobe piece that Vivian’s black piece was resting on. A wardrobe space, which led her to draw a wardrobe card. “Sunday Best. It’s a Sunday, and you know what that means! Time to head on over to morning mass, and be sure to dress nicely when you go.” Just like every other time someone drew a wardrobe card, the tiny speaker in the center of the game board played a happy little jingle. And this time, just like when Mariah’s clothing was altered, Linh’s outfit vanished before their very eyes. For a brief moment, the 19 year old Asian girl was left nude, totally exposed for all her friends to see, before a new outfit began to appear on her body. First, a set of vintage undergarments appeared to cover her shame. A bullet bra, panties, garter belt, and stockings. Then, a white blouse with a peter pan collar covered her upper half, while a deep purple skirt wrapped around her bottom, with its hemline reaching her calves. Finally, a matching purple sweater went on over the blouse, and a cross necklace formed around Linh’s neck. “Ahh, this is just the sort of thing that I’d love to wear to mass!” Linh squealed happily, marveling at her new outfit. “I didn’t know you were religious,” Vivian noted. “Well, I’m not, really,” Linh admitted sheepishly, tugging at her skirt. “But it’s still a really nice outfit! It’s sort of like what my mother wears when she goes to church. I wouldn’t mind going more, honestly.” “It really suits you, Linh,” Carrie gushed. Like with Mariah, Carrie felt a rush of both jealousy and lust at the sight of Linh wearing the sort of outfit you’d see a 50s housewife wearing. She looked so demure, so pure, so innocent… And the arousal from her earlier punishment certainly wasn’t going away now! “Thanks, Carrie!” Linh said, giving her friend a quick hug. “So I ended up in some frou frou ball gown and she’s looking like a church girl. Great. Really fun game, Carrie,” Mariah huffed, crossing her arms and pouting. Unfortunately, her outfit negated any impact her grumpiness may have had, and Mariah ended up just looking a little silly and adorable. “Hey, she didn’t know any of this would happen!” Vivian spoke up, rather angrily, in Carrie’s defense. “And need I remind you that she was just spanked in front of all of us! If anyone has a right to be embarrassed right now, it’s Carrie. It’s an old dress, you can deal.” Mariah fell silent and looked down at her lap, sufficiently shamed. Vivian grabbed the dice from Linh and rolled for her turn, pushing through the awkwardness and keeping the game going. She just wanted to get it over with, and hopefully avoid any more unfortunate scenes that night. She moved her piece along the board, and wound up on another chore space. Everyone but Linh exchanged awkward, worried glances, as Vivian accepted the chore card from Linh. “Laundry Day. Your spouse needs a clean set of clothes, so don’t delay! Take good care of the laundry, and try not to end up with pink socks!” When Vivian looked up from the card, she found herself in a similar predicament as the one that faced Carrie earlier. The three walled, almost 1950s sitcom looking house set was the same, as was the giant window for her friends to watch her through. But rather than being in a kitchen, Vivian was trapped in a small laundry room. There was no ticking clock, but she was faced with a mountain’s worth of dirty laundry. Vintage frocks, stockings and undergarments, blouses… All things that one would expect a 50s housewife to wear. But mixed in among them, Vivian discovered as she sorted out the whites, were articles that likely belonged to other members of the supposed “family” she was doing this laundry for. Fitted suits, pencil skirts, ties of varying colors and styles, things that most likely belonged to her own false spouse, like how Carrie had a false version of Kent. The fact that she was currently single didn’t seem to matter to the game. And on top of that, there was also an assortment of small dresses, bobby socks, and cloth diapers. So she was doing laundry for a baby, too. Luckily, Vivian didn’t have to work with a time limit, and she had more than enough experience in washing her own clothes. She figured that the game cared more about her skill and knowledge in how to properly sort and wash the clothes than her speed at a simpler task, like Carrie got. In fact, time didn’t seem to make much sense at all during her little challenge. The instant that she put a load in the wash, it was all ready to move over to the dryer, without even a minute’s wait. She was grateful for that, at least. Otherwise, with the amount of laundry she was tasked with handling, it would take half a day to do it all, if not longer. But once she finished with the last of the drying, Vivian found that she wasn’t back in Linh’s bedroom, not yet. She looked at the window, to the others watching her, and hoped that they might have an answer. “You’ve got to fold them, silly!” Linh explained, rolling her eyes. “Right. Makes sense,” Vivian muttered to herself as she turned back around and started work on getting everything folded and divided up by who the clothes belonged to. As the time went on, she began to realize that the monotony of the chore wasn’t boring her. If anything, it was actually rather relaxing, just devoting herself to one simple task. And the smell of the clean clothes was rather enjoyable. She had never really noticed that before, but it was. There wasn’t anything about the task for her to complain about, and Vivian smiled to herself as she got into the rhythm of folding the various dresses and skirts and diapers, and setting them off to the side so that she could start on the next article. She had gotten off easy on the chores, she figured, but that wasn’t a bad thing at all. Once she set the last toddler’s dress aside, as neatly folded as everything else, Vivian heard a little ding, like the sound of a tiny bell being rung. When she looked around, she found herself, finally, back in Linh’s bedroom, with the other girls watching her. Carrie seemed relieved that Vivian had avoided being punished like she was, while Mariah breathed a sigh of relief and started looking for the dice. Linh, however, was busy fawning over Vivian’s appearance. “Gosh, those earrings are so cute, Viv!” Linh gushed, touching Vivian’s ear delicately. Vivian reached up and felt her earlobe, and understood what her reward for winning the challenge had been. Her gauges were gone, and the large hole they created was fully healed up. In their places were a pair of large pearl earrings, as smooth and cool as she always imagined pearls must feel. “Oh,” Vivian said, not sure what else to even say about the change. She should have been mad, just as upset as Mariah was about the changes, if not more. She had paid a lot of money for her various piercings, and to have two of them replaced ought to feel like a violation. But instead, she didn’t mind it at all. In fact, she felt almost happy about it. Thinking on it, the gauges were something she’d probably grow to regret someday, while a nice, classy pair of pearl earrings was something she couldn’t go wrong with. Even if they did clash with the rest of her appearance. But there wasn’t any time to think about that, since Mariah was already taking her turn. “Two spaces,” Mariah noted. She moved her game piece along the board, and breathed a sigh of relief when she landed on a reality space. “Reality space! Okay, you demon game, what fact about my life are you going to predict?” “Biblical Name. Your name is Mary. It’s the only name you’ve got, so don’t wear it out!” Mary stared at the card after reading it, confused. The other three looked at her as she slowly set the card down. “But my name isn’t Mary,” she claimed, getting defensive. “My name is Mary! Er, wait, what? My name is Mary. Mary. My name is Mary!” “Yeah, we know what your name is, Mary,” Linh said. “No! This isn’t right. I know that my name was something else, but whenever I try to think of it, my brain just says… Mary.” Mary started to get even more worried. The harder she thought about it, the more her original name seemed to elude her. She tried to spell it out inside of her head. It started with an M, and then an A, followed by an R… And then a Y. M-A-R-Y. “I-I think that these cards don’t tell us facts about reality,” Mary realized, finally. “I think that they change reality, just like those other cards change our appearance!” “But my card didn’t change reality,” Linh told her, growing somewhat annoyed by her friend’s little scene. “My mom is a housewife and I want to be one too. That’s how it’s always been, Mary. And I don’t remember you ever having another name!” “Neither do I,” Carrie agreed, and Vivian nodded her head. “You’re Mary. What other name would you have?” “I think you both might be right,” Vivian said. “I think that Mary knows she had a different name once, but we can only think of her as Mary. So whatever her name used to be doesn’t really matter, since it’s gone entirely now.” “But… But that’s my name!” Mary exclaimed. Even so, her outrage was subsiding. She just didn’t have it in her to keep arguing when even she couldn’t recall what her old name was anymore. The only name she could think of as her’s was Mary, and there was nothing she could do about it, and so she sank to her knees and folded her hands in her lap as she sniffled her tears away. Linh patted her on the shoulder sympathetically, but even Mary knew that she must have sounded ridiculous. The game was really starting to get to her. “Just take your turn, Carrie,” Mary told her, pushing the dice in the blonde’s direction. Carrie nodded and shook the dice in her hands, filled with a mixture of excitement and fear as she rolled them. She couldn’t wait to see what came next, even if it was a bit intimidating. “Wow, Carrie! Two chore spaces in a row!” Linh noted once she saw where Carrie’s game piece landed. Carrie drew the chore card and read it with bated breath. Would she fail this challenge, like she did the last one? Would she… Would she be spanked again? In front of her friends, as they watched a man bend her over his knee and treat her like a misbehaving child? What was this game doing to her, making her all hot and bothered at the thought of something so shameful? Or had she always wanted that sort of thing, but just hadn’t realized it? “Changing Time. Your baby needs a changing, and any mother worth her salt knows how to change a diaper! Can you do it in time?” Carrie shut her eyes as the world around her shifted. She could feel the air change, and her nose picked up the scent of... baby powder? When she opened her eyes, she found herself in a nursery, standing by a crib. Another smell cut through the first one, this one much more foul. Carrie wrinkled her nose in disgust, and then she heard a loud, piercing cry coming from the crib. She didn’t even waste time looking at her friends through the window in the wall. She had a challenge to win! Thankfully, Carrie had experience with babysitting from back in high school. Changing a diaper and calming an infant down was no issue at all for her, and she didn’t even need to pay attention to the clock on the wall as it ticked downwards. Her time wasn’t even halfway up when she finished, and a happy little chime played. And just like that, Carrie was already back in Linh’s room. But to her brief confusion, everyone was staring at her, just like when she had been spanked. Mary was, as usual, somewhat horrified and disgusted. Vivian was shocked. Linh, of course, was excited as she could possibly be. Then, Carrie realized that there was a weight in her arms. Something heavy, warm, soft, and… squirming? She looked down at what she was holding, and her own eyes went wide with shock.
“Oh my gosh, Carrie! Did the game give you a baby?” Linh asked. She practically flew over to Carrie and started fawning over the infant that Carrie had been saddled with. Carrie’s initial surprise faded fast. The more attention that she paid the baby, the more she seemed to know about it. She was a girl, eight months old, her name was Alice, and her father was Carrie’s boyfriend, Kent. She knew that just a second ago, she was a childless young woman. She had always practiced safe sex! But she also knew, without a doubt in her mind, that this precious little girl was her’s. This must be what Mary felt like, with the game changing her name. She knew, logically, that the game had changed a facet of her life, but that didn’t change that this was her life now. And so she hugged Alice close to her chest and sighed happily as the baby cooed at her “aunty Linh”. “This is the game, isn’t it?” Mary asked, her worries bubbling up again. “This game keeps screwing with our fucking lives, and we can’t do anything to stop it while we keep fucking playing it!” “Mary, stop that!” Carrie hushed her. “No cursing around the baby. Linh, why don’t you take your turn, okay?” “Look, I’m sorry, okay? But we can’t just keep ignoring this,” Mary insisted. “This game is messing with our heads, with our bodies, and now with our lives too! We need to quit while we’re ahead, before it, I dunno, makes Linh pregnant!” “Oh, Mary! That would be so amazing!” Linh gushed, her head filling up with thoughts about the prospect. “Okay, bad example, but still!” Mary moaned. She pointed a finger at Vivian as she continued. “What if the game removed Vivian’s intelligence or something? O-Or made me LIKE this?!” “Do you really think the game could completely change someone like that, Mary?” Linh asked, incredulous. The idea that someone could have their own thoughts and desires warped by the game was ludicrous to her. “Anyways, you can quit if you want, but I’m having a lot of fun!” “So am I, actually,” Carrie agreed as she stuck a pacifier into her new baby’s mouth. “I haven’t had this much fun in years.” “I’m staying in if Carrie is,” Vivian said. She didn’t admit that a part of her wanted to see just how deep all of this could go, and what else could change. Would she be the next one to end up in vintage clothing? Or would it be Carrie? Could someone else end up becoming a mother, seemingly out of nowhere? A small, determined part of Vivian desperately wanted to experience whatever the game had to offer. “...Fine,” Mary said, after a lengthy pause. “But if anything happens to me, it’s on you guys. Take your turn, Linh.” “Okie dokie!” Linh said with a giggle as she rolled the dice, eager to see what would happen to her next. “Two, three, four… Oh, yay! Reality space!” The young asian woman excitedly reached for an appropriate card and cleared her throat before reading it aloud to the group. She couldn’t wait to see what would happen, or rather, to find out if the game could really change something about her life like it did to Mary and Carrie. “Getting Your MRS Degree. You tried to give it the old college try, but college was just too smart for you! It’s okay, though. An aspiring housewife doesn’t need a degree to clog up her brain.” Linh nodded her head. That made sense to her. After all, she had dropped out of college after just one semester, once it became apparent that she was far too dumb to make it in academia. “Wait, but… But aren’t we all on break from school?” Mary asked, looking around the circle for confirmation. Carrie and Vivian nodded their heads. That was true, obviously. “Well yeah, you guys are,” Linh said. “But I dropped out during our first year, remember? I’ve been helping my mother around the house ever since, at least until a boy sweeps me off my feet and makes me his housewife!” “But Linh, what if that’s just the game messing with your life? Like how it changed my name, or made Carrie a mom!” Linh shrugged her shoulders. “Does it matter? I don’t really care about school anyways. I just want to be a housewife!” “I guess…” Mary said, admitting defeat. Did it really matter if it matched Linh’s own desires? Odds are she’d drop out eventually anyways, regardless of if the game had made it happen early or not. “See, Mary? This game isn’t making any of us grumpy except for you,” Linh told her, gently touching Mary’s shoulder. “If you try to enjoy it, like we are, you might have some fun!” Mary didn’t say anything in response. She just kept on sulking, trying to convince herself that Linh was wrong. It was a hard argument to win, though, so she kept quiet and waited for Vivian to roll the dice and let whatever change that’d come happen. Wasn’t like she could stop it, even if she tried. Could she? “I got a five,” Vivian mumbled, before picking up her little black housewife shaped game piece. She dragged it along the board over five spaces, moving right on past Linh’s piece, and ending up on the next reality space. Her heart rate picked up as she realized what that meant for her. Up till now, she had gotten by with minimal changes from the game. Just her hair and earrings had been changed, while Mary, Carrie, and Linh had all experienced massive shifts in either their wardrobe, their life, or both. But now her life was going to change, possibly forever, all due to the whim of a card in some old, possibly cursed, board game. It was terrifying, but also exciting. Why was she excited by the prospect of the game radically altering her very life? All she could do was draw the reality card and see what awaited her. “Clean As A Whistle. You’re not sure what these “body mod” things are, but you’ve certainly never had one! No siree, your body is a temple, and no tattoo needle or piercing gun has marred your beautiful skin.” Vivian looked down at her arm as the lights dimmed, and while her stomach turned, she could see the tattoos fade away, until there was just unblemished, ivory skin. She raised a hand to her face and felt around as her piercings seemed to sink into her skin, and then vanish entirely. Even her new pearl earrings vanished by the time that the lights came back on! And when the room went back to normal, Vivian found that she couldn’t remember ever sitting down to get a tattoo or piercing. She didn’t have the faintest clue as to what that experience felt like. She shuddered at the thought. It must be so painful, all just to have some ugly image ruin her skin! Thank goodness she had never gotten any kind of body modification before. “So… Let me guess. Vivian used to be covered in tattoos or something?” Mary said, looking Vivian up and down. Vivian nearly gagged at the very idea! “Vivian with tattoos? I can’t even picture what that’d look like,” Carrie admitted. The thought of her friend getting a tattoo was frankly absurd. Vivian always hated tattoos! She wouldn’t even sit down to get her ears pierced, no matter how much you paid her. “Viv with tattoos? Oh wow, that’d be a sight!” Linh laughed. “Can we just move on, please?” Vivian asked. “I don’t really like all this theorizing. We all know how I feel about the subject.” Still, Vivian felt that Mary must have had a point. Considering how the cards worked, she must have had some sort of body modification done to herself in the past, even if the idea disgusted her now. Did the game really change something so drastic about her, even down to her feelings on something like that? She couldn’t stop wondering...

Into the Dark and Unknown: Ch 4. Forbidden Knowledge
"... and this concludes all the text on our culture." Uktena's words slowly rattled into Bonegrinder's brain. The Anagari had fetched several novels from the shelves for the human guests. "Anymore questions?"
Leere frowned, raising her hand. “What makes the Mortuus so dangerous?”
"They use living beings as hosts for demons." Uktena explained to Leere. "They sacrifice that poor person's soul to bring forth the demon to do their bidding."
“Is every single individual Mortuus evil?”
"From our experience, they even use their own children as sacrifices sometimes." Uktena turned to the shelves and pulled off a book on the Mortuus. He flipped open to a page about possession and placed it on the table for Leere to read. "These are the usual tattoos used to summon demons of various hierarchies. Yet, their ultimate goal is to summon an old and forgotten god, long locked away. We don't speak his true name, and instead refer to him as Chaos."
Bonegrinder shut the book so quickly, it echoed. "Tiny princess needs not hear of horrors."
“I... was that my Tattoo inscribed there?”
"... no." Bonegrinder tried to save face. "Just a similar look is all. Nothing to concern yourself over. Best to forget it." He started to put away the book.
Leere turned to the librarian. “There can’t be a whole species of an evil individuals.”
She turned her growing ire to Malik. “I read a report there was a group of Mortuus who attacked Hyrule castle, but some insisted they sought help.”
“True, but they tried to kill the Queen.”
"Our experience with the Mortuus begs otherwise, princess." Uktena was not going to argue with Leere, just state his point from history. "Why do you think Mother put up such a barrier? It is to keep them out of Omisha. After the last incident..." The librarian suddenly wore a sorrowful expression. "Mother was so heartbroken. We were heartbroken for her. We do not want a repeat of the past."
"Whether they truly sought help or not, it does not matter." Bonegrinder dismissed the thought. "What matters is keeping everyone safe, tiny princess. That includes you."
“Holy insufferable Din. What does it take for a woman to get answers?” Leere scowled, pointing to Bonegrinder. “Hand me the book.”
"No."
"I can just get you another copy---"
Bonegrinder glared at Uktena, his meaning of 'shut the fuck up right now' coming across very clearly.
“Get me another copy.”
"... I rather not lose my head to the shaman here." Uktena held his hands up in defense. "He's obviously trying to prevent you from finding out something of cruel and hurtful nature."
"Exactly and it's going to stay that way."
Malik decided this would be one contest of will he’d stay out of.
Leere glared at her friend, feeling hurt. “I came out here to learn. You are actively denying me knowledge.”
"Bonegrinder does not want you to have knowledge of..." He tried to think of the best way to say it. "Of what... of why you have that tattoo."
“Because my guardians wanted to kill me right? Summon a dread lord? Oh! Maybe a terrible demon? Or how about a god! Big shock! Give me the book.”
"... that's not it."
“Then I’ll find out myself.” With her patience wearing thin, she trotted out of the library.
"Wait, wait, you need an escort!" Uktena called after the princess. "Damn it, tell her and go get her before she stumbles upon---"
"She is finally happy and getting better, he does not want her sad again!" Bonegrinder bellowed at Uktena. "You do not presume to order this Anagari, bookworm."
"Okay, okay, fine!"
~
Leere and her company spent another day at Omisha. Her daytime was spent sulking after storming out of the library. It was only when she met with Solani again had Leere's mood brightened. The little bird-girl wanted to play hide and seek with the human. It was so cute, Leere couldn't resist. The princess learned Solani snuck a book so she and her friends could understand Leere's speech more. This connection melted Leere's heart, so much so that by the end of the session, she wondered if she should adopt her own children. When night came, however, Leere's mind returned to her desire of knowledge. She wanted to learn just what exactly Bonegrinder wanted to keep from her. When she felt confident Malik and Boney were asleep, she snuck out of her hut, dashing silently back to the library. Once there, she called out lightly, not wanting to be too loud in case anyone was asleep.
"Hello? Uktena?"
"Do humans always visit libraries at late hours of the night?" Uktena was never far from the precious books. He had the duty of protecting their history and recording it. Yawning, he hung down from the ceiling, looking at Leere. "What is it you seek?"
"I seek the knowledge Bonegrinder wished to keep from me about Malus." Leere kept her tone strong, straightening to show she wasn't going to back down.
"Third shelf from the bottom, in the middle row." Uktena gestured to the selection of novels on Malus. "You won't find their magic in there, just accounts of history."
“That’s all I need.”
Leere was quick to go to shelf. Unfortunately, Malik was waiting around the corner, grabbing the book and hold it close as he crossed his arms. “What do you think you’re trying to pull?”
The Mortuus couldn’t believe this. “You got to be kidding me here. What does it take for a woman to get what she needs?”
Malik shook the book in her face sternly. “I heard you sneaking out. You’re lucky that snake is a heavy sleeper. He told you to drop the subject on Malus. We have to respect his wishes while out here.”
“I thought you hated him?”
“I respect the Mother. I don’t want to upset her hospitality.”
Leere jumped for the book, and Malik lifted it out of her reach, easily towering over her. “Malik, we both wanted to learn more about prophecies, histories, and the threats and friends that could be found in both Omisha and Malus. You’re acting like a jerk!”
The Gerudo chuckled as she jumped a few more times in her little statement. Her words did have meaning though. “We should consider that Bonegrinder and the Mother have their reasons for keeping Malus so isolated. What if we learn something that you regret?”
“Excuse me?” Leere scowled, feeling like she was being coddled by just another Gerudo in her life. “You think you’re so immune to the effects of bad history?”
“I’ve seen enough horrors to-”
“You don’t think I haven’t seen horrors? You don’t think I know I have trauma sometimes from thinking about the things I have seen? Malik. I know there are many horrors in the world. I know them. God I wish I could forget them too. But if forgetting them, or never facing them again meant that innocent people died, or that another little girl couldn’t be saved from being traumatized, I’d never do it. I’d face those horrors a thousand times over and have my mind clouded by terror as result, just so I could save those people.”
Malik listened closely to Leere. His arms lowered, and the book fell to his side. He sometimes forgot how much this woman had been through. “I apologise. You were right. Bonegrinder shouldn’t keep this knowledge from you. And I shouldn’t see you as fragile little thing.” He walked over to a table, placing the book down. Waving his hand over, he shocked Leere. “Well, what are you waiting for? We have much to see. Librarian. Are there any other books of history?”
"Those on the third shelf are history; those are the ones you currently are reading. The wars that Omisha has had with Malus are on the fourth shelf. It's not exactly a fond read, many lives were lost during the war before Mother constructed the barrier." Uktena then gestured across the room. "If you wish to know of the prophecies, you can read what little material we have, or you should seek to ask Mother. She knows more than all of us."
“Maybe you should tell Mother we asked. Please leave us.” Malik waved his hand, not really thinking about what he asked.
Leere was nice enough to give Uktena a bow of gratitude. “Thank you.”
As Malik and Leere read the books, they read this history of Malus. At least what they could. The war that was mentioned was, to be honest, rather barbaric and did not shy from the details. Swarms of Mortuus mages, corrupting the flesh of the dead, puppeteering the living against their will, and summoning demons of awful ilk. The Mortuus themselves were described closely to Leere’s own appearance. Pale skin, darker hair, red eyes. Some, however, were described with red and black eyes instead of the usual white. They could be anywhere from 5.1 to 5.11 feet tall, only on the rarest of occasions being anything taller.
What was described of the land was either the murmurs of fairy tales, such as a cursed metropolis unlike anything else in the world, or accounts of monsters of Mortuus who meant no harm in their travels. The lands were hilly at the Omisha border. Great expanding grasslands that hid terrifying predators. In a desert that marked as a border between southern and central was a tale of massive colossi that wandered the land, indiscriminately killing anything that came before it. Within the southern lands were also accounts of underground villages that were made in order to hide away from the monsters and cultists that lived in the capital city. Massive crystalized towns that had little barriers of their own. Leere was disheartened to learn that these own barriers had to make sacrifices of their own.
Finally, the biggest myths to be heard. That the land was cursed by a God to have a blanket of death and destruction, despite so much of it being so beautiful. That none could experience the fay that lived in the western forests, or swim with sirens in the north. Two monsters that worried Leere and Malik was a tale of a mighty sea serpent that lived trapped in a lake. Simply named the Devourer. Another was a Dragon that flew with no sound, knew no pain, and had blood as black as coal.
All in all, Leere and Malik were beginning to form their own ideas of what the Mortuus was, until they found a hand written note. Reading it over, it was scribbled in a rushed job.
‘I cry for the world. I don’t expect to live long after writing this. My people, the Mortuus, are dying. Madness has split us down the middle. A darkness has infested our hearts. Many of us are being forced into exile, we’ve finished creating underground establishments, with shining crystals that channel light from the surface, but I don’t know if that will keep the madness away forever. I fear what will happen if we stay hidden the earth for a prolonged period of time while our dark brothers and sisters fester on the surface. I’m going to flee Malus. I will search out those who can save us, and unite our people once more. I can only hope there will be those who will listen. My oracle speaks of a tribe of newly formed witches who have made a monarchy. Perhaps I can go to them. There’s also the Golden Kingdom of Legend, or the even the Mother of all Omisha. I have to have hope. But I feel so, so cold writing this letter. I had a run in with a beast, and it scratched me. Feel so itchy. So cold. Please, help us.’
Leere looked to Malik, her face filled with regret. “He speaks of the Lorleidians, but he also speaks of their formation. How old is this letter?”
Malik shook his head. The Mortuus seemed to be both terrible fiends, yet also held victims among them. “Too old Leere.”
Uktena returned with more books. This time, it was not limited to Malus. There were more novels on the prophecies he managed to find, but it was like putting together a puzzle with all jagged ends. Very little of the prophecies made sense. Some of the riddles were confusing and other rhymes were almost impossible to solve.
"I recalled the blonde prince saying that old Bonegrinder was always singing a horrid lullaby about death and some kind of twisted fate revealed..." The Anagari placed the text on the table for the humans. "These are books pertaining to the Mother Goddess; the highest of high, in all her glory and might. Humans call her Balance. We call her Kaksa." He flipped open the novel to a picture depicting an outline of a form with seven wings unfurled, but one broken. On the next page, there were two more outlines, one with horns and the other with oddly, long fingers. "These two were her left and right hands, Maker and Destroyer. We call them Prama and Dhakk. Is this what you were referring to when you asked about a prophecy?"
“I-” Malik paused, not expecting this information. “Is this important about Malus at all, or Omisha? I fail to see how the tale of another pantheon can enlighten us.”
"Another pantheon is incorrect, this is the only pantheon." Uktena paused for a minute to gaze upon their confused expressions. "You do know that your golden goddesses are the children of Balance... right?"
“No?” Leere said.
Malik almost scoffed at the idea. “Please, the Golden Goddesses created the Earth. I doubt any God or Goddess before them would be so lazy or not have the pride to do it themselves. Where are these three gods then?”
Now it was Leere’s turn to worry if Malik was over stepping his bounds. “How about we go politely ask the Mother what she knows? You know, she she’s still awake.”
"The Golden Goddesses helped create parts of this world, but not all in this world." Uktena nearly rolled his eyes at the human ignorance. "I have so often wondered how humans just leave behind all account of religion if it benefits them. I, on the other hand, would not like to risk being... how do you put it? 'Smited'." He then chuckled at Leere's inquiry. "Mother never sleeps. Come, follow me. I will see if you will be willing to accept your audience."
Both did so, with Malik trying to remember that Uktena had a point. He had seen many spirits and gods in the last century alone. “I suppose the story of creation does only speak of how Hryule and its majesty was created, and not the rest...”
"You would do well to remember that while each culture has its respective religion, in some unique way, all the gods, goddesses, deities, spirits, whatever you call them, tie in together." Uktena reminded them. "Different names, same divinity." Once Uktena had escorted them to the grand throne room, there lounged Mother, reading the latest report from her scouts. "Mother, I beg forgiveness for interrupting you, though the humans seek your knowledge."
"This late?" Mother peeked out from behind her scrolls. "I thought humans had this thing called a 'bedtime'?"
Leere cleared her throat first. “I had thoughts on my mind. Questions that needed answering. Mother, we wish to ask what the story of Maker, Destroyer, and Balance has to do with Omisha and Malus?”
"Ah, so you wish for a lesson of how all that is came to be." Mother put away her scroll and rose from her throne. "Which question first, beloved tiny princess of Bonegrinder? Do you wish to hear the tale of the deities themselves? Or how they play into our home and Malus?"
“The deities themselves, if you may.” Klinge bowed his head, wishing to know for himself.
"The deities are the creators of this world, young lord." Mother told Malik as she used her magic to create an outline of Balance. "This is who the humans know as Balance. She is the Mother Goddess. No other god or goddess is above her. She is responsible for keeping harmony within the world." She gestured to the drooping eighth wing. "However, eons ago, there was a disruption in the heavens..."
“If that isn’t the tale of every god.” Malik muttered. In fact, it made him livid. Why did the gods infighting ruin humanity?
"Balance's two hands, Maker and Destroyer, had one job; help her keep harmony in the universe." Mother then depicted two other figures with the outline of the angelic deity. "Maker and Destroyer were happy with their jobs. But then Destroyer decided he wanted more. He did not like that Maker could have his creations and he was limited to pulling monstrosities out of shadows." Then she said, "And he certainly did not like it when Maker expressed his love for Balance."
“That sounds petty.”
"Destroyer was in love with Balance, and did not want to share her love with his brother." Mother showed the horned figure attacking the other with elongated arms and fingers. "He tried to be rid of his brother but Balance intervened, keeping Destroyer from hurting Maker further. He cursed his brother to be retained in flesh form, yet did not realize Balance's clever spell. Whatever was dealt upon Maker, was then reflected to Destroyer. Thus, the brothers were then trapped on earth in flesh."
Leere gulped, wondering the obvious. “Where are they now?”
"Balance is still in the heavens, waiting for the day of prophecy. Supposedly, to keep the brothers from causing further upsets in this world, she will come down and a host will serve as her flesh form," Mother held up another outline of a woman, merging the figure of Balance with the chosen one. "She will come here, keep her brothers from causing a war on the earth, and then transport them back to the heavens with her. From the way the story goes, when she kept Destroyer from hurting Maker, she was injured herself." She gestured to the drooping eighth wing. "The Mother Goddess would have been here a long time ago, but without her helpers to help her run the universe and having to recover from a grave injury, it has taken many lifetimes over."
“She’ll take over the body of some poor girl? That’s intolerable.” Malik spoke, unhappy with this legend. “The Gods play games with mortals no matter what their own status. It’s beyond ridiculous.”
Leere noticed the Mother avoid her question. Once more, she asked again. “If the God of Balance is in the heavens, what forms did Maker and Destroyer take?”
"... we have located one of the brothers. The other we speculate his form based upon a past meeting." Mother told Leere, seeing no reason to lie. "His memories have still not yet returned of his true identity. While the gods and goddesses do like playing their games with mortals, they also do much for us. Some of the deities are just a little crueler than others." She waved away the figures of magic, and then told the pair. "Yet, Maker and Destroyer are not who we need to worry about now. It is Chaos incarnate... you might know him as Teufel."
“What?!” That certainly got a rise out of Malik. She only needed to mention Teufel once by name to ablaze his fury. “What do you know of the Devil?”
"We call him Taunin. The god of chaos." Mother told Malik with a frown. "Balance's counterpart. Supposedly, the oldest tale in our history is Balance and Chaos were two parts of one whole. They loved each other. However, Chaos became greedy and when Balance 'rested', brought havoc across the world. So with a heavy heart, Balance banished Chaos to earth with the help of Maker and Destroyer to forever roam the world he tried to wipe from existence."
“...I’ve heard everything I needed to know.” Malik’s voice shook in a cold tremble, and he rose to leave.
"Did I say I was done?" Mother's voice cut sharply through the room. "There is more you need to know."
“More? What more do I have to know!” Malik’s anger finally broke. “You claim the Gods do good for mankind. But all I see, hear, and feel from them is tragedy! Demise placed a curse of darkness to plague Hyrule and surrounding lands for eons! The God of Fire for the Hasai drove their Emperor mad with goals of conquest! The Golden Goddesses knowingly broadcasted the ultimate source of power so mortals would fight over it for all time! And now you tell me that these Gods I’m just hearing about now are responsible for entrapping the purist of evil I know on Earth? Teufel led one the Gerudo genocides! He killed my mother and my people! Tell me! What do you know of my suffering that the Gods have committed against me with their petty squabbles? What do you know of the Devil of Hyrule bringing suffering down upon me!”
"... do you truly think that your people, the Hylians, and the Hasai are the only ones who have suffered?" Mother sounded cold. "While there are gods and goddesses who have been cruel to their creations, there are those who have looked after their children. Whether it be a game to them, a form of punishment, or a lesson in obedience, we are all subjective to their will.”
“I never said that they were the only ones. But the Gerudo were my family, Grand Mother. And the Gerudo have been nothing but victims in the face of the gods. Do you have anything you wish to add?” Malik’s voice dropped from his booming anger to simply being tired.
"Yes, you will have time to make use of that anger. A war is coming with Teufel." Mother then told Malik. "And you have a very important job to do."
“I know that more than anyone.” Malik gave a bow of his head. “My questions have been answered. I will return to sleep now.”
Leere stayed kneeling, waiting for the Mother to speak to her.
Mother then turned her gaze to the princess.
"Little one... I know you wish to visit Malus." Mother informed Leere, a touch of disappointment in her tone. "And I know you still plan to find a way to go there. Yet, Malus is a place of horrors, my beautiful girl. I would be lying if I said I wished for you to learn of your people. The Mortuus are a... despicable race who love to toy with their puppets and torment the living." She then told her. "You understand why I will not lower my barrier, and you understand why I wish to keep you from the land... yet, I have no power to stop you if you do wish at some point to go. For now, I will do my best to answer your questions."
“I read about a Mortuus in your library. He said he was looking for help for his land. What became of him?”
"He was found injured, over three hundreds years ago." Mother informed Leere. "We did not eat him, nor did we harm him. We tried to heal him, but it was too late. He managed to tell us of an underground city full of Mortuus who did not agree with the usual ways. We do not know the location of this city, but it is somewhere hidden and safe from prying eyes. However, I could not risk my own children going into the land to seek a needle in a haystack."
“And what do these gods have to do with Omisha and Malus?”
"... the Teufel that Malik is so familiar with, that is their god." Mother took a slow breath. "More than likely, they have been supplying him with body after body after body until they find the perfect host."
“That’s.... that’s despicable.”
"Teufel has had many bodies over the years," Mother elaborated with a look of pure hatred on her face. "Even used some of my children for his purposes." She then slithered around behind Leere and gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "And at some point... even you were intended for that purpose."
Leere froze feeling the Mother touch her. She felt something colder at what she said to her. “Forgive me. But that’s hard to believe. Teufel was still sealed away thanks to my father even before I was born for, well, since Malik was in his first human life.” Leere looked up to Mother, focusing her gaze. She was a curious woman, and a clever one too. “One of the books I read also contained information on the Mortuus referring to a God of Destruction. Never anything about chaos. I’m sure this Teufel is certainly evil, but is he really the one behind Malus, and not another being, such as Dhakk?”
"What makes you think the Mortuus would not try to control a deity as great as Chaos? Think upon it, Leere, and you will understand why I am wary of you going back to your homeland." Mother then explained the purpose of Destroyer to the girl. "While Destroyer is given a bad reputation, his purpose is simply to ensure that when certain beings are no longer needed, they disappear. He makes sure the flow of energy of this world is reusable for Maker. Keeping Balance happy/"
“I thought he loathed his brother with a passion?” Leere crossed her arms like a kid, poking holes in Mother’s story. As a scholar, she couldn’t help but here clear bias in the Mother’s statements. “I doubt anyone can control a Diety. I can control people myself, but that takes incredibly powerful magic, and all the concentration I can muster.”
"He loathed that Maker loved Balance and Balanced loved Maker. So yes, he did hate his brother. But that happened eons after the three had lived in harmony for even since time began." Mother then asked Leere. "Your brothers and sisters make you mad, right? You're argued and been jealous, and sometimes, you've even hurt them and they've hurt you. I'm sure you've fought before. Think of this as a sibling spat." The Echidnan then said, "Imagine what would happen if the Mortuus came together to control a deity. Not just one soul doing the magic but many."
“I’ve never met this Teufel before, but aren’t you worried you might be... paranoid?” Leere smiled to try and cushion the blow of her wording. “You see Teufel and the other Mortuus as your enemies. I can see you might think it easier to lump them together.”
"What you call paranoia, I call safety. My barrier, my suspicion, it is for a reason. You have not seen your people stitched together to make a carcass puppet, hearing their spirits beg for the relief of death, and the look of horror on families' faces when they realize what has been done to their loved one."
“No. Not my own people. I’m very lucky for that.” She took hold of Mother’s hand, feeling a warmth. “It’s terrible when awful evils try to bring harm to the beauty in our world.”
"And humans call us evil, judging us for our looks instead of knowing us. There are many different forms of evil, beautiful one, but the worst is perhaps... ignorance." Mother gently led Leere up the stairs past her throne. It was pitch blackness. "And my ignorance cost me."
“You’re a beautiful good too you know.” Leere’s eyes tried to adjust to the darkness ahead. “Where are we going?”
"You will see why I do not wish for you to go to the Mortuus. For you to stay safe and not make the same mistakes as I did."
“Is that a good idea? I’ve seen much darkness in my life before...”
"Take it as a warning of what could happen." Mother then slowly started adjusting light to the room. With her magic, she lit several candles on fire. There in the middle of the room, was a body in cased in solid amber. "This is my husband Melekh... and my son, Aibgor." It was not a single person, but two combined into one. Stitches were holding the Echidnan together, and it was a monstrous thing done to a monstrous species. "Teufel used them against me when I did not bow to his wishes. He wanted me to invade neighboring countries, start a war in his name, and have the others bow to him. I refused."
Leere winced, her hand squeezing Mother’s tightly. She had never met Teufel, but the more and more she learned about him, she hoped she never would. “I’m so sorry for your loss. Are they... still alive?”
"No... Melekh and Aibgor were in torment." Mother looked sad, but most of all... defeated. "He had the Mortuus stitch them together like it was an experiment. Would a body be stronger if it was composed of more souls?" She sighed heavily, placing her hand on top of the amber. "Puppeteer against their will... he had them fight their own people. Slaughter them. Then he set his sights on me." She took a deep breath and admitted. "I had to kill my own mate and son or else they would have killed more of us. I keep them here to remind me of why the country of Malus cannot be trusted. Anyone in throws with Teufel will hurt more innocents... and I will not lose anyone else."
Leere winced, her hand squeezing Mothers tightly.
Leere held Mother’s arm close, and she stared up at the matriarch. “I know this might sound childish to someone as ancient as you, but my psychologist tells me that when I think of awful memories, I should seek out a person I trust. Would you like to come dream with me for the night?”
"Bad memories can also be a good defense. A reminder of what happened, and what cannot happen again." Mother then chuckled. "It is not childish. We Echidnans usually seek comfort with a bed mate. Not only for pleasure purposes, but as you have probably experienced with Bonegrinder, some like to cuddle. Him, especially."
“I, uh, have done both once.” Leere couldn’t hide the flush on her face, even in the deep dark. “I’d be honoured to cuddle with you, as too keep us safe from the nightmares tonight.”
"Ah, so Bonegrinder told you the tale of Anagaris being good for chasing away nightmares," Mother told Leere with a slight smile. "Though each of us Echidnans have a good purpose for chasing away evil. Kokyangwutis spin webs to bring good dreams."
“Oh! I thought he was just being positive. That’s what I meant. I don’t have any special powers to keep nightmares away, I just wanted to sleep with you. I MEAN- I rest with you. I know it can be difficult to be with your own negative thoughts, and having someone to hold can be what you need. I’m not coming onto you. Not that you aren’t beautiful I mean. I just-I-uh-oh god I’m tired. I’m not some horny human I swear to you. I am sincere at just wanting to help you feel comfortable...” Leere petered off from her rambling, embarrassed she’d declare something else to make her appear like an even bigger fool.
"Hahahaha!!!" Mother actually laughed. "Oh, sweet girl, you worry too much. I do think that a proper rest will do you good. If you wish for a peaceful sleep, then you may share my nest."
“Thank you”, was all Leere could muster out of her.
"Though if sex is what you are looking for, then I'm sure you could always find a willing partner who is eager to experiment intercourse with a human being." Mother wanted to clarify. "If that's what you were referring to."
“Nope. Nuh-uh. No. Not going there.” God, kill her now. “Let’s just go to bed and forget the last minute.”
"Very well, this way." Mother started to ascend the ceiling and was part of the way upward before she returned to the ground. "I forgot that humans are not the best climbers."
“You could always carry me? I’m sure you’ve always wanted to sneak away with a princess in the night.”
"I suppose that is a dream that could be entertained." Mother extended her spider legs from her back, gently plucking the princess from the ground. "Just hold still." She then climbed to the ceiling once more to reveal a huge bedding. "Humans do like to sleep on soft things, right?"
“Very much so.”
"Then pick your place first." Mother set Leere down on the plush pillows and grasses.
Leere crawled onto the bed, sighing heavenly. Lots of information was on her mind. Gods, Devils, her origins, her people. So much to take in. Without speaking a word, she fell was asleep.

BB’s Anime Rec List
Because I do in fact watch more than just Fullmetal Alchemist, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Cardfight!! Vanguard, I thought I’d share with you some other ones I’ve watched and enjoyed.
The vast majority of these can be found on Crunchyroll.
Pokémon Sun and Moon
Tumblr media
Genre: Adventure
Rating: G (General)
Length: Ongoing (73 episodes currently)
Subbed: Yes
Dubbed: Yes
Pokemon Sun and Moon follows the adventures of Satoshi/Ash in the Alola region when he decides to stay after visiting it for a vacation. Eventually he decides to take on the Island Challenge, taking on the Trials and Island Kahunas.
The story weaves together Ash’s Island Challenge, the mystery that is Nebby and UBs(Ultra Beasts), along with general slice of life activities. And yes, Ash does go back to school.
This was a surprise addition to the list to be honest. When the Sun and Moon anime was announced, along with stills of the new art style, I, like a number of fans, was wary. The art was so different from any of the other series, far more, cartoonish and stylized. And I have been turned off shows due to art style before.
And then I actually watched it, and was taken in. It’s lighthearted (for the most part) and fun, the characters are all likeable and a treat. The art style actually works, especially when animated and is honestly, really cute, and very expressive, and used to great effect for stylistic and exaggerated expressions.
Even if you’ve never watched any of the other seasons, or stopped a long time ago, this one is definitely worth giving a shot.
Natsume Yuujinchou (lit. Natsume’s Book of Friends)
Tumblr media
Genre: Slice of Life, Supernatural, Drama
Rating: T (Teen)
Length: 74 episodes (spread over 6 seasons) + 5 OVAs
Subbed: Yes
Dubbed: No
Slice of life and supernatural don’t normally seem like two genre that would go together, but in this series they do.
Takashi Natsume has the ability to see spirits, an ability also possessed by his grandmother, Reiko Natsume. Unfortunately, this ability led to him being ostracized by his peers and passed from family member to family member after the death of his parents.
The story follows 16 year old Natsume after he comes into possession of a powerful item that once belonged to his grandmother, the Book of Friends, a notebook full of names of spirits that Reiko caught and bound. He is joined on this journey to return these names by Madara (also called Nyanko-sensei) a powerful yokai that becomes his ‘bodyguard’ in exchange for the Book of Friends upon Natsume’s death(though it’s fairly clear that he is quite attached to Natsume).
On top of this, the series is a story of healing, of Natsume overcoming years of isolation and bullying and learning how to form friendships, both with humans and yokai alike. A story about family and home.
It’s what I call a ‘soft’ anime; the art style, the music, it’s never loud or in your face. There’s never any large, world ending sorts of stakes. Even when there are stakes, you always know things will work out in the end.
Kyoukai no Rinne
Tumblr media
Genre: Slice of Life, Supernatural, Comedy, Romance
Rating: T (Teen)
Length: 75 episodes (spread over 3 seasons)
Subbed: Yes
Dubbed: No
If you think the art style looks similar that’s because this is another series by Rumiko Takahashi, the brains behind Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2 and many others.
The story centers around Mamiya Sakura, a normal human girl who can see ghosts, and Rokudo Rinne, a perpetually broke, down on his luck part human, part shinigami, who is also her classmate.
Do not let the OPs fool you, this series does not take itself seriously. At all. It’s vaguely self-aware at times and pokes fun at itself constantly.
Through the course of the series we meet other shinigami, demons, damashigami (basically, an unscrupulous shinigami that takes takes people to the afterlife before they die, a “bad” shinigami) and a wide variety of spirits, good and bad.
The romance is very will they-won’t they. Or to quote the back of the DVD
“Two’s company, Three’s a crowd and Four…. is just the start of another Rumiko Takahashi romance.”
It’s a fairly enjoyable watch over all and the lighthearted humour helps keep it from being *to* serious all the time.
Hell Girl
Tumblr media
Genre: Horror, Dark
Rating: M (Mature audiences)
Probably the only thing on this list that requires trigger warning for, pretty much everything. It has dark themes and I advise using extreme caution when watching as some episodes may be highly upsetting. If any of the following are triggering or highly upsetting to you I’d advise probably avoiding this one.
Warning for (but not limited to): Assault, Stalking, Rape, Attempted Rape, Animal abuse, Murder, Abuse(pretty much all kinds), Bullying.
Length: 90 Episodes (over 4 seasons, season 1-3 have 26 episodes each, season 4 has 12)
Subbed: Yes
Dubbed: Yes (but only the first two seasons)
Hell Correspondence is a website accessible only at midnight, and if you put in the name of your tormentor Hell Girl will come and drag them to hell for you. But at a price, your soul belongs to hell when you die.
This is the overarching premise of the entire series as unlike the rest of the shows on this list, it is very much like an anthology. For the most part each episode is self contained, the only characters that appear more than once are Hell Girl herself and her associates.
The first season does have an overarching plotline later on focusing on a character trying to stop Hell Girl and figure out the mysterious connection between her and his daughter.
Many of the episodes are centered on seeking revenge upon one’s tormentor and as mentioned in the rating above, it is very dark. If you can think of it, it has probably happened at least once. It’s not gory but it just deals with heavy subject matter.
So if you like dark shows and like watching people get their just desserts then, this is probably one you’ll enjoy.
Hoozuki no Reitetsu
Tumblr media
Genre: Dark Comedy, Demons, Supernatural, Fantasy
Rating: T
Length: 31 Episodes + OVAs (currently ongoing)
Subbed: Yes
Dubbed: No
The story follows the demon Hozuki, Japanese Hell’s second in command to King Enma. It’s almost slice of life, if slice of life took place in hell and followed the life of a demon as he deals with Hell’s unusual cases and inhabitants.
I specified Japanese Hell as we meet characters from the Heaven/Hell/Afterlife of various religions/mythologies (Anubis for Egyptian afterlife, Satan and Beelzebub from European Hell for example).
There isn’t to much of an overarching storyline to this one either and despite the subject matter (demons and hell) it’s not all that dark and fairly amusing.
Elegant Yokai Apartment Life
Tumblr media
Genre: Supernatural
Rating: T
Length: 26 episodes
Subbed: Yes
Dubbed: No
Elegant Yokai Apartment Life is a fairly lighthearted anime following the (mis?)adventures of highschool Inaba Yushi after, not wishing to burden his aunt and uncle any longer by living with them, moves into an apartment populated by ghosts and yokai(and the rare human). Most of the adventures take place AT the apartment involving the residents there as well as Inaba’s budding supernatural abilities.
While generally a fairly light-hearted and fun series, it does occasionally touch on slightly more serious subject matter such as death and abuse.
Miira No Kaikata/How to Keep a Mummy
Tumblr media
Genre: Supernatural, Slice of Life
Rating: G
Length: Not long enough 12 episodes
Subbed: Yes
Dubbed: No
Much like Natsume, this series blends supernatural elements with a very slice of life tone as we follow Kashiwagi Sora after he receives a tiny mummy from his globe trotting father. As the title suggests the story follows Sora as he navigates life caring for the tiny mummy. Through out the story we are introduced to more creatures including an oni child, a dragon and a baku, all of which end up in the care of Sora’s friends.
The show is incredibly sweet and a very good mood lifter if one is feeling down. And 12 episodes isn’t nearly enough for it imo.
Erased
Tumblr media
Genre: Psychological Thriller, Magic/Fantasy
Rating: T
Length: 12 episodes
Subbed: Yes
Dubbed: Yes
Psychological Thrillers aren’t normally my types of anime. Or any series really. But this one hooked me so hard that I just had to keep watching to see what would happen next.
Our protagonist, 29 year old Satoru Fujinuma, has an ability that allows him to return to a point in time just before a life-threatening disaster in order to prevent it. Usually it only sends him back a few minutes. One day, after discovering his mother murdered, he’s sent back in time 18 years, to when he was 11 years old, to a time just before one of his classmates was kidnapped and murdered.
The story follows Satoru as he works to try to save his classmate from this fate, discover who the killer is and figure out how to prevent his mother’s murder(and how all of this is connected).
D. Gray-Man
Tumblr media
Genre: Dark, Fantasy, Action-Adventure, Tragedy
Rating: T
Length: 103 episodes
Subbed: Yes
Dubbed: Yes (and second half is actually being dubbed at long last!)
Set in an alternate version of the 19th century, a group of Exorcists known as the Black Order fight monsters called Akuma, weapons created by the Millennium Earl and powered by the souls of the deceased.
Allen Walker is one of these exorcists, using the anti-Akuma weapon in his left arm and his cursed left eye that can see the trapped souls to fight against Akuma and help lay their souls to rest.
They also fight against the Millennium Earl and the Clan of Noah who intend to destroy the world.
This is also a sequel/continuation series called D. Gray-Man Hallow that picks up exactly where this one leaves off(but has a different voice cast) though watching it not required.
Caligula
Tumblr media
Genre: Action, Sci-Fi
Rating: T
Length: 5/12 Ongoing
Subbed: Yes
Dubbed: No
The series is currently ongoing so the entire plot is not yet known but what is know is that μ(Mu) an AI idol gained sentience and self awareness and in deciding to help alleviate humanity’s suffering created Mobius. Mobius is a near perfect virtual world wherein are trapped the minds of the deeply troubled and/or suffering.
Ritsu Shikishima is among those that has awakened and begun to notice that the world they are in is not real. Unfortunately for him, and everyone else who has “awakened” and wants out, the Ostinato Musicians, a group that are working for/with μ, block the way, doing everything in their power to stop anyone from leaving μ‘s perfect world.
Caligula is, it’s interesting. It’s hard to describe since it’s still ongoing but each episode keeps you hooked and wanting for answers and the animation and music are gorgeous.

CHAPTER 3: THE PRICE OF LOVE
You left class a little later than usual, since you had to stay back and ask your teacher a question. Unfortunately, that made you late for your “job” with Suga so you ran the moment you left the classroom. Luck was not by your side today, though, because you tripped and fell; you felt a dull pain in your knee.
“Ow!”, you groaned, examining your knee. You winced as you noticed that you were bleeding.
“Does it hurt a lot?”, you heard a soft voice and looked up.
A beautiful girl stood before you with long, shiny blonde locks that cascaded like waves down her back. Wow she has great hair. You recognized her as someone who recently transferred to one of your classes, but you don’t remember her name. She’s usually accompanied by a handsome man, but he’s currently not around.
You gave her a smile, “I’m okay, don’t worry.”
You started to get up, but she helped you get up and you thanked her.
“Still, that’s an awful scratch you got there—plus you’re bleeding!” She continued to examine your wound and you had to admit that it was a little creepy how interested she was in your wound.
“Um, I’m really fine….what’s your name?”
“Jennie, but please call me Nini.” She said, giving you an adorable smile and you couldn’t help but smile.
“I’m Y/N, and really I’m fine.” You wiped up the blood, “See? It’s fine.”
She still had a worried look on her face, “But you could easily infect the wound and it could get worst…”
“Is there a problem?” You saw the cute guy that was always around Nini walked up to you guys with his eyes narrowed at her.
You saw her eyes widen and she instantly grew defensive, “Jungkook! Ah, nothing. I didn’t do anything. Also, why are you here when you have class at this time?”
Jungkook didn’t looked appeased at all, if anything he looked more suspicious, “Miss, I am guarding against more disaster.”
“I really didn’t do anything! You’re the one who shouldn’t ditch class and create issues!”
She pushed him away and, with one last parting stare at her, he walked away. She breathed out a sigh of relief and turned towards you.
“Oh, don’t mind him he’s just…a friend. A friend of mine. He’s very protective.”
“But, why does he speak to you formally?”
“Ah, t-that?” She said, “That, um, he lived in the U.S for so long that he can only speak Korean in formal speech.”
“Really?” You didn’t quite buy her story, but she seemed like she didn’t want to tell you the truth so let it go, “Are you going out then? It looks like he’s always looking after you…”
Nini pouted, “No…it’s not like that…”
“So he’s just a friend then? You guys are always together…”
“Can you keep a secret?” She asked softly.
“Yeah, but I don’t know if you want to tell me a secret if we barely know each other…”
Nini ignored me, “I actually really, really like Jungkook.”
“Why don’t you tell him?”
She bit her lip, “It’s…complicated. But anyway, he doesn’t see me like that.”
Before you could respond though, she looked at your leg again, “Oh my god it’s bleeding again! Does it hurt?”
“No, it’s okay. It’s really not bad, but about Jungkook…”
Nini looked around, “Okay no one’s around…Do you have some scissors?”
“…what?”
You have to admit that thing girl is really random.
“Some scissors, or anything sharp?”
Puzzled, you shook your head.
“Wait, just remembered I snuck a switchblade in my shoe without Jungkook knowing…” She reached inside her show and pulled out a switchblade. You started to wonder if maybe you were in danger and should get out of there. She said her secret, now it must die with me.
Nini smiled, “Great, now…”
Your eyes widened as she literally sliced a chunk of her hair, “What--?”
“Here,” she handed you the long, soft lock, “Eat this.”
You looked at the hair in your hand in horror and didn’t know what to say. Is this chick crazy?
“Come on, eat it.” She encouraged you
“What are you doing? No, I won’t eat that.”
“Trust me, it’s fine, just do it.”
“I don’t think I can even digest hair—”
She took her hair from your hand and stuffed it into your mouth while you were talking. You were about to spit it out when you noticed it was an interesting texture; it almost melted into your mouth.
Is this really hair?
You continued to chew on it and found it was actually very delicious. It was hard to pinpoint the exact taste, it tasted herbal but also sweet. You could easily find yourself eating this every day. Am I going crazy now?, you thought and swallowed the hair. Nini looked at you expectantly, smiling.
“How are you feeling?”
You realized that you felt refreshed, rejuvenated, the best you felt in years. You saw her looking at the wound in your knee and you noticed that it was healed.
“I feel…amazing.” You replied, suddenly having the urge to cut more hair out of her head.
Okay, I am officially going crazy. I’m starting to crave hair---is this normal? Who is she exactly?
Nini must have seen the hungry look in your eyes because her eyes widened.
“Oh man, Jungkook is going to kill me.” She started to leave.
“Wait, how—?”
“I gotta go.” She bluttered out and ran away; you had to resist the urge to run after her and demand more hair.
What’s going on with me?
You tried to set your head straight as you walked towards Suga’s office. The further you walked, the more you hungry you were so you decided to stop by the convenience store.
You browsed through the selection of ramen, but you felt sick thinking about eating ramen. That’s a first. So you browsed at the other food, but the thought of eating any food made you want to throw up. Giving up, you left the convenience store and continued your walk to your “work”.
By the time you entered Suga’s office, you were in a daze and could barely think straight. All you could think about was that delicious hair you had. Does her hair have drugs on it or something? Am I now addicted to drugs?
You entered Suga’s office and he sat behind his desk, doing paperwork.
“Hey Suga.” You said, but it sounded very off.
He must have noticed this because he looked up and studied you.
Suga frowned, “Y/N, you don’t look well.”
“I’m really hungry,” you confessed, and he narrowed his eyes.
“Did you by any chance eat some magical hair?”
You were surprised that he knew your current obsession and him mentioning it made you long for it even more; you nod.
He sighs and gets up, “Sit down and wait for me.”
“But—”
“Sit down.” His tone held no debate and you sat down, wondering if maybe he’ll have mercy on you and have a stash of that magical hair. Yum. Your mouth started to water thinking of the hair.
“Drink this.” You didn’t notice him come back to the room. He handed you a cup and you frowned. This wasn’t magical hair.
“What’s this?”, you smelled it and gagged, no way are you drinking that.
“Drink it.”
“No, it could be poison,” you protested and Suga rolled his eyes.
“If I wanted you dead I would have killed you a long time ago. Drink it.”
“Why should I?”
He sighed, “I’ll give you some hair if you drink it.”
Excited at the possibility of getting more hair, you drowned the drink. The effects were instantaneous and the hunger was gone and you were able to think clearly again.
You blushed as you remembered how desperate you were of hair and set the cup down next to you, “Thank you.”
“Care to explain how you came across Calendulan hair?”
“Calendula? Isn’t that a flower?”
“Yes, and it’s also the name of a very powerful alien race.”
Oh shit, you met an alien. Although, now that you think about it, you already met a magician and a different dimensional being. What’s an alien?
“A classmate of mine gave some to me after I scraped my knee. Why did it have that effect?”
“The Calendulan race have healing powers. In their natural forms, they are flowers. Every part of the flower is used for different healing properties. For example, their petals or hair is used to heal small wounds. If you eat the flower whole, it’ll give you eternal youth. The problem is that the flower is very addictive, so it’s dangerous for them to give any part of them.”
“I barely know her, why would she do that if she runs that risk then?”
He sighs, “Nini is too caring for her good. Her empathy would literally be the death of her.”
“You know Nini?” You asked, though you shouldn’t be surprised since he knows so much about her race, “Did she made a wish or something?”
“No, her bodyguard is just a very old friend of mine, so I’ve helped them out a few times.”
“Her bodyguard…. it’s not Jungkook by any chance…?”
Suga nodded, “Yup. Now stop asking me questions, you’re not an interviewer.”
You blushed, “I’m sorry, I’m just curious about the hair that I was literally addicted to.”
“Just go to work.”
Ah, so he was dismissing you. You were actually surprised he gave you this much information. Usually he wouldn’t entertain you like this.
“Yes, sir.” You said jokingly, saluting him, and he scowled.
Smiling, you made your way to your desk. As you started to settle in and look through your laptop to see if Suga had any appointment for today, the office door slammed open. You jumped and recognized Jungkook.
He seemed really upset and you wondered if he was angry at you that you ate the hair, even though it wasn’t really fault. Jungkook strode to you.
“Hi—"
“I need to talk to Suga.” He demanded.
“Let me see if he has an appoint—”
“It’s urgent. Just tell him I’m here.” He said impatiently and you nod as you went to Suga’s office. Suga did mention that Jungkook was an old friend of his.
“Aren’t you supposed to be working? I’m not going to answer any more of your questions.”
“Um, actually, Jungkook is here to see you. He says it’s urgent.”
You saw his expression change, but it changed back to his expressionless face so fast you couldn’t quite catch the emotion.
“Let him in. And Y/N?”
“Yeah?”
“Don’t overhear this conversation. I’m serious, stay away no matter what you hear. Please.”
You nod; this was the first time Suga ever used the word ‘please’ to you, so he must really be serious.
Jungkook burst into the room and he looked very upset..
You wondered what they will be discussing that’s so serious; Jungkook seemed pretty upset.
Still, your curiosity got the better of you as you lingered by the door.
“What do you want, Jungkook?” Suga asked, used to Jungkook’s fits of passion, “It’s not for a wish, right? Because you know that I can’t grant it.”
“No, I didn’t come to make a wish.” Jungkook said, “but to threaten.”
“Threaten? Threaten me with what? Stop doing things that are out of character.”
“The one out of character is you,” Jungkook said angrily, “What did you do to Nini? You have no interest in love.”
Wait, you thought, is Suga involved with Nini? That’ll be a plot twist. But didn’t she said she liked Jungkook? I’m really confused.
“I don’t.” Suga confirmed, “I didn’t do anything. She’s the one following me around—what am I supposed to do?”
“Shut up!” Jungkook burst out, “This is all your fault!”
Suga raised his eyebrows, “What exactly is my fault?”
“Because of you, the princess refuses to go back to her home planet. You know she was only here until the rebellion was settled. I just found out from the Calendulan government that it’s been a year since the rebels were put down but Nini refused to go back. The reason was because she fell in love with someone in this planet. Naturally, I ask her who it is and after much persuasion she reluctantly tells me it’s you. Imagine my shock.”
Princess? Oh my god, Nini is not only an alien but an alien princess?
“Ah, that is a problem.” Suga said, seeming unconcerned.
“And it’s all your fault! Do you even love Nini one bit?”
Suga snorted, “No, you know already that I can’t love. I can’t remember how.”
How can one forget how to love, you thought, that just seems like a bullshit excuse. Poor Nini. But which is the truth—does she love Jungkook or Suga? I mean, she seemed very adamant in not telling Jungkook her feelings, so maybe she lied to him. Still…that seems like a strange thing to do.
Jungkook gave Suga a piercing stare, “Yeah, I know. She’ll be hurt again, that idiot princess. I always have to clean after her.”
“So stop such useless things and just take her back to the star.”
“How when she’s threatening to commit suicide? She said she’ll go to a stormy cliff and turn to a flower so that all her petals and leaves will be blown away and her roots rot.”
That’s…pretty graphic. No wonder Jungkook is worried.
“Whether she dies or not what do you care?”
“What?”, Jungkook sounded shocked by his words and you had to admit you felt the same way.
“I know your duty is only to return her to the star safely. Once you do that, you’ll receive what you want. Whether the princess dies or not afterward shouldn’t be your problem.”
You just couldn’t believe how nonchalant Suga can be. Does he really not care about her at all?
“Are you done?” Jungkook’s voice sounded very sharp, “Still. She loves you, you’ll leave her to die that way?”
“I don’t really care…”
“You bastard!”
“Do you care?” There was a pause, “Jungkook, I know it’s your job and all, but sometimes I think you’re way too protective over the princess. Are you in love with the princess?”
There was a pause and you leaned closer, curious about his response. Jungkook did seem like he cared for Nini. The little times you saw them on campus he always took care of Nini and even when he seemed like he was annoyed by her antics, he seemed to secretly enjoy it. Plus being so angry at Suga, it does seem a bit excessive for just a normal bodyguard. And if Nini really did like Jungkook, that meant that they liked each other and this is even more complicated.
“Enough, I don’t do useless things. Besides the princess…doesn’t see me that way. I offered to tell the Calendulan government that she was in love with me so I can be the target and spare your life, but she refused to consider it. Says that it’s not believable, her being in love with me. The princess says that she considers me as a mother figure.”
Hm…that sounds more like she doesn’t want you to be the target, you thought, so there is still a possibility that she loves Jungkook.
“Well you did come to Earth when she was a child and practically raised her.”
Jungkook sighed, “So as the princess’ mother I’m telling you, protect her love so she doesn’t become a dying flower in the wind.”
“That’s very touching and all, but I don’t want to waste anymore of my time. What would I get in return for protecting her love?” “My precious possession” Jungkook answered, very serious, “That’s right, I’m making the wish for you to protect Nini’s love. If you don’t grant it I won’t leave you alone.”
“Are you threatening me?”
“Yes, if you refuse to grant it I’ll break your right hand.”
“…Let go, you don’t even have the guts.”
“We’ll see about that.”
“If the hand is broken, I’ll cease to exist. Will that make the princess happy?”
“Maybe if it’s a love that will never be receive, it’s better to nip it in the bud than risk leaving a bigger scar. What use are you if you’re not going to grant the wish?”
Suga chuckled, “This makes me not want to grant the wish even more. No matter what, I’ll never grant your wish Whenever I see you I always get a strange feeling.”
“What?”
“I can’t tell what’s most important to you. Normally I can tell, but not with you. I don’t want to receive something unknown. Also, you have no desire to kill me, your hand is shaking.”
You burst into the room, tired of this conversation.
You grabbed the nearest vase and said, “You coward.”
Suga simply looked at you and said, “I told you not to listen.”
Ah, he must have known I was listening because he doesn’t seem surprised.
“If you don’t grant his wish, I’ll break this vase.”
“Y/N, stop it, it’s priceless.”
You locked eyes with Suga and could tell he was annoyed, good, “Oh, this is expensive? Even better. If you don’t fulfill Jungkook’s wish I’ll break this.”
You balanced the vase dangerously in your hands.
“Put that vase down, I received that as a prized possession.”
“Oh right, isn’t the rule that you take care the prized possessions you take or your life is in danger?” You let it slide dangerously from your grasp, “Hurry and decide, you moron.”
“You’re a bigger moron,” Jungkook said, “What are you doing?”
“I’m trying to help you, you idiot.” You snapped at Jungkook and he retreated.
“Fine.” Suga said, “I’ll grant you your wish. I’ll protect Nini’s love. From this moment on to all eternity—how’s that? And Y/N…” He turned to you, “No matter what happens later, no regrets.”
You felt uneasy as you set the vase down, but what was worst that can happen?
“Now since the wish was granted, I’ll take your prized possession, Jungkook.” Suga closed his eyes, “Your prized possession is….” His eyes flew open and he didn’t look well.
“Suga?” You asked, a bit worried.
“No wonder I wasn’t able to see it before,” he looked at Jungkook, “your prized possession is death.”
With that, Suga collapsed.
You panicked, “Oh my god! Suga!” You run to his side.
“Why is he like this?” You asked Jungkook as you checked Suga’s pulse. Still beating, that’s a good sign.
“Well probably because he received my precious possession.” Jungkook said simply and you give him an incredulous look.
“Okay, why on earth is the thing you value most is death? What’s wrong with you?!?”
“First of all, I didn’t know that was my precious possession. But I guess it makes sense because I am immortal.”
This idiot, you thought, now look at Suga. And it’s my fault too. If I didn’t insist he take the wish against his better judgement, he’ll be fine. I’m too blame…like their death.
You tried to shove the dangerous thoughts away, but you kept thinking about your family’s death. Particularly your brother’s. His plane ticket was yours originally. Yours. It should have been you who died in that plane crash, not him. It was your fault that he died—
“Hey, snap out of it, he’s not dead yet.” Jungkook said, he was next to you.
Thankfully, his words did snap you out of it.
“Look, no one died because of you.”
You realized you were saying your thoughts out loud and blushed.
“I’ll take responsibly, if Suga dies Nini will never recover and will probably kill herself. There’s still hope for him.”
“What do you mean? Didn’t he just receive death?”
“Yeah he received ‘death’, but it’s Suga’s choice on how he uses the gift. If he really wants to live, he’ll avoid death’s call. But if he doesn’t, he’ll probably try to die when he wakes.”
“So, which one will it be?”
“I don’t know. But just in case, you have to watch over him.”
“But wait, I can’t watch over him forever. How do I prevent him from killing himself?”
“Well you’ll just have to give him the will to live.”
How do I that? You were determined to save Suga, not wanting another guilty conscience in your hands. Not like Jin.
You were about to ask Jungkook if he has any suggestions when Jungkook suddenly perked up, “Nini!”
He bolted up.
“What happened?”
“She’s in trouble, I have to go to her.” He started going towards the door, “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of everything. There’s only one way to save Suga. I’ll send Nini is about an hour with the medicine to save Suga.”
“Wait, why is Nini coming and not you?”
“…I won’t need to come again. Just look after Suga for an hour and make sure he doesn’t try to kill himself. Sure you can handle that?”
“Yes, but—”
“Ok, I really I have to go.”
He ran out the door and you had a really bad feeling about this.
I didn’t even tell him that Nini loves him. He’s going to do something drastic, I can feel it. But I have a lot in my plate right now, so I can’t waste time thinking about that.. Hopefully everything comes out right in the end.
You looked at Suga’s sleeping form and wondered how to handle Suga.

SUGA POV
“Suga, if the Calendulan government wins I have to go back home and be queen.”
As Nini said this, she stared at the unconscious Jungkook.
“That’ll be a good thing, you’ve waited for this time to come.”
Nini laughed nervously, “Yeah, I’m happy. I’m worried about Jungkook right now, he got a lot more injuries than usual…”
“He’s going to be fine; he regenerates quickly.”
“Yeah, but it’s always my fault he gets hurt.” Nini pouted.
“That’s because you keep giving your hair to people that don’t really need it. Jungkook is always telling you to stop but you never listen to him.”
She pouted, “I just can’t stand to see people suffering…”
“And Jungkook has to suffer for it.”
Nini frowned, then said,  “Let me tell you a secret, since you’re such a nice guy and helped Jungkook out…”
This was the first time someone referred to Suga as a “nice guy”.
“Nice guy?”
She ignored him, “I…like Jungkook a lot. Jungkook doesn’t like me or any of the Calendulan people, but it’s okay. I’ll somehow convince him to stay with me.”
There was a pause as Suga considered whether to tell Nini or not.
“…I’m sorry princess but Jungkook will die soon.”
Nini gave Suga a look of horror, “W-what is this a joke? I thought you said he’s going o be fine. His wounds aren’t fatal or anything…”
“No he’s not dying right now. Do you know what Jungkook is getting in exchange for protecting you?”
“No…”
“Death. Like a time bomb there was poison placed in his body. The moment you arrive back to your planet, Jungkook will disintegrate.”
“N-no, there has to be someway—”
“There’s no way to prevent it.”
Tears started to form in Nini’s eyes, “Why would he…?”
“He probably wanted a sure death, since it’s human nature to want to live in the midst of dying.”
“No, I can’t let him die.” Nini rushed up to Suga, “If I make a wish, could you grant it? I’ll give you anything I have.”
“No. I can’t grant your wish. Wishes pertaining to existence are outside of my control. Just give up and return to your planet, that’s what Jungkook wants the most.”
There was a pause.
“If I were to die and wasn’t able to return, would Jungkook live?” Nini asked. Suga frowned.
“Would he?” Nini insisted.
Suga sighed, “Ok, you win. I can’t grant your wish but I’ll help you. As long as you don’t go back, Jungkook will live. No matter what, fight and don’t go back.”
“B-but if I tell them I won’t return because of Jungkook they’ll kill him—”
“Why says to say it’s Jungkook? From now on, it’s me.”
“Eh? But—”
“Just tell that to Jungkook. A mechanism was planted in Jungkook’s brain without his knowledge that alerts the planet. They’ll know the one you love is me.”
“B-but you’ll be danger…I don’t want that…”
“Do you want to save Jungkook or not?”
Nini bit her lip, “…yes.”
“Then follow my plan; I can take care of myself.”
Suga opened his eyes, ah it was a dream. Strange I thought of that memory, must be from all the commotion from earlier.
He caught sight of you.
Oh, she’s still here. This might be annoying with her here.
“Suga! How are you feeling?” You rush to him and he scowled.
“I’m fine, leave me alone.”, Suga grumbled as he sat up.
“I was so worried, Jungkook said you received death but thank god you’re still alive.” You rambled, “he said that I should look after you, just in case.”
“Yeah, he’s an idiot who prizes death. I want to be alone though, so leave.”
“I understand, but let me stay the hour until he comes back—”
Wow she’s stubborn, Suga thought, one cannot even die in peace here.
“Y/N, I’m asking nicely before I get nasty: get out now.”
“And I’m saying I can’t do that. Just hang in there…or take a nap, that’ll make you feel better.”
And be haunted by dreams again? I think not, Suga thought.
“Fine, but I did warn you.”
“Wha--?”
Suga snapped his fingers and teleported you out of his office. He heard your cries and furious knocks on the door but he ignored it.
Ah finally, peace.
Suga slowly walked to his room, contemplating on how to go about it. A voice in his head was telling him that he probably shouldn’t kill himself, that was silly, but he ignored it. He has committed many sins in his life after all and it’s about time he payed for them.
He entered his room and went out to the balcony, that’s it I’ll just jump. Suga thought how Jin would probably be disappointed in him. Teacher is dead anyway, why does it matter? Even if reborn again, he’ll die before he’s 20 again—that’s his curse after all.
Suga looked at the ground below and wondered if this height will be enough to kill him. There’s only one way to find out.
“Suga!” He heard your desperate shout and turned around, “Stop, you’re not thinking of jumping, right?”
“If I am?”
“Are you nuts? Just stay right there, I’ll hold your hand—”
Tired of the conversation, Suga jumped.
I’m falling. I’m dying. Is this end? The breeze feels good—
He felt himself froze midair and tried to break free but found he couldn’t.
“Didn’t I tell you to live a long life and take care of my sister?”
Suga turned around and saw Jin floating above him, giving him a disapproving stare.
“A disciple that doesn’t listen needs to be hit.”
“Let go.”, Suga growled Jin tsked.
“Eh, you’re being such a little punk, speaking with such disrespect. After everything I did for you?’
“Shut up, I have to watch you die again and again—don’t you think I get tired of it?”
“Hm, I know you’re not yourself so I’ll let it go. But try to die again and I’ll kick your ass.”
Suga felt himself be shot back up unto the balcony.
“I have to save Jungkook first but I’ll be back.”
“Go ahead.” Suga replied, “If you think I’ll be alive by then…”
“Oh my god! Don’t die, you bastard!” You shrieked as you hugged him tight.
Jin smirked, “I won’t worry, my sis is strong. You’re not going anywhere.”
Suga struggled, “Let me go Y/N.”
“No way! I thought my heart was going to explode! Try that again and I’ll kill you first!”
“Y/N, I’m warning you—”
“No! You listen to me—you’re not dying on my watch!” You tell him.
Jin laughed as he watched his sister’s antics and disappeared.
“Just watch me.” Suga replied as he struggled again.
You sighed, “Well then, I’m sorry in advance.”
“What do you—?”
You hit him hard in the head and he blanked out.
She’ll definitely pay for that.
Tumblr media
Suga stared at the Jungkook’s sleeping form. So much had happened that night. You knocked Suga out cold for the next hour. When Suga woke up, was given the medicine and was back to normal. Jungkook, however wasn’t so lucky.
“Ni…Nini…”, Jungkook murmured as he slowly opened his eyes, tears streaming from them.
“I honestly didn’t expect you to have the will to wake up,” Suga said.
“She really is gone, huh?”
“Yes.”
Jungkook wiped his tears and sat up on the bed.
“How am I here?”
“Teacher brought you here. He told me everything.”
“Ah so it was him that helped Nini.” Jungkook said softly.
“I’m sorry about Nini.” Suga said.
“She sacrificed herself for me.”
“Nini did left behind this though.” Suga said and brought out a pot filled with dirt, “She left seeds behind.”
Jungkook took the pot and stared at the dirt.
“Do you believe the flower will bloom again? Is that why you’re not sad?”, Suga asked.
Jungkook sighed, “There’s no guarantee that it’ll boom again.”
“If it doesn’t bloom, will you try to die again?”
There was a pause and Jungkook closed his eyes and smiled.
“I’ve never felt my heartbeat before. I thought of it as a useless object extending my life, but I can hear it now. Nini didn’t die. It’s okay if the flower doesn’t bloom again because the place where she lives and breathes…is inside me”
He placed his hand over his heart and opened his eyes, “I won’t waste my time with death anymore. I’ll live another hundred or thousand years. I’ll make sure she didn’t die for nothing. She sacrificed her life to save me. Me.”
Suga couldn’t comprehend it but found it interesting that love will make one do such drastic actions.
Jungkook left, carrying the pot with him.
You came up to Suga.
“Will he really be fine?”
“Jungkook has always wanted to die but wasn’t able to. He always felt bitter because his mom was Calendulan and sacrificed her life for him. This is first time in my existence I heard him not wanting to die, Nini seems to have given him a new hope and purpose in life.”
You smiled, “Wow, the power of love is so powerful.”
Suga snorted, “There you go on about love again.”
You studied Suga, “You mentioned it before, how love is dangerous for your kind. How so?”
He turned away, “It is not necessary for you to know.”
“Have you been in love before?”
There was a pause. Suga thought of the love he once experienced. It was not a pleasant experience at all and didn’t want to have that emotion again.
“You can go home early.”
Tumblr media
Y/N P.O.V
Suga continued to evade your questions involving his past and love. He mentioned a teacher a few times, but whenever you asked for more details about his teacher he would clam up. It’s like the more you learned about Suga, the more confusing he got.
You got out of your apartment and saw that it was raining.
Shit, I don’t have an umbrella, you thought, I should really buy an umbrella, I think I lost my umbrella in the move…
You saw a mother and daughter in front of you.
“Sweetie, I brought you an umbrella. My daughter can’t go around getting wet.”
The daughter brought her to a tight hug, “Aw, mom! Thank you!”
“When you get home, I’ll make you some hot chocolate and cookies.”
“Wow, I’m so excited!”
She took the umbrella, opened it and waved back at her mother as she left to the rain.
What the heck, are they filming or something?, you thought, a bit bitter. This scene makes a person without a mother feel sad.
You sighed and resigned yourself to walk in the rain when you saw Suga step in front of handing an umbrella. You blinked.
“Suga?”
“Take it.”
You took his spare umbrella, “You came all this way just to bring me an umbrella?”
He shrugged, “Well, I had nothing to do…”
You smiled, still that was nice of him. You opened the umbrella and noticed he started walking without you, “Hey, wait a minute, let’s go together!”
Dammit, why does he do that?
You ran to catch up with him, but trip and fall in the wet pavement.
“Ow!”
Suga stops and walks up to you, “Stupid.”
“I’m gonna kill you. Hurry up and give me a hand.”
You brought your hand out and he just stared at it.
“What?”
“…it’s cold because of the rain, so I can’t hold your hand.”
He walked away and you couldn’t believe him.
“What are you talking about? Hey! You can just leave me here!”
You just saw his retreating back and frowned as you got up, he’s just too mean. The cold-hearted bastard.
You entered Suga’s office and decided to tidy things up a bit. Or at least tried to.
CRASH!
You stared at the teacup that was shattered on the floor.
Suga looked at you and you blushed, “No, it wasn’t my fault. I just dusted it very lightly.”
He rolled his eyes, “Sure, at this rate we’ll have nothing left.”
You huffed, “Okay, I’m sorry, I’ll clean it up.”
“Let it be.” He walked over and started picking up the pieces, “Being the klutz you are, you might hurt yourself while picking it up. It’s better if I do it.”
He then cut himself with a sharp edge and started bleeding, “Ow!”
You couldn’t help but laugh of the irony, “That’s what you get for showing off.”
He glared at you, “Really?”
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry. Give me your hand to make sure it’s not deep. Where go you keep your bandages?”
You reached for his hand.
“Ah, that’s not nec—”
“I said to give me your hand!”
You grabbed your hand and you froze, “You hand…”
It was really cold. It’s so icy-cold that it’s giving me the chills! That’s not normal. You knew that he wasn’t human but this was the first time you actually saw evidence for it.
He saw your expression and quickly snatched his hand away.
“I’m sorry.” You said.
“Doesn’t matter,” he brought up his hand and his wound was healed, “it heals on its own anyway.”
There was a pause and suddenly the bell was ringing.
“Oh someone must be at reception, I’ll see who it is!” You stammered, glad for the chance to escape the awkwardness.
Wow, Y/N, you’re really acting stupid. So what if his hands are abnormally cold?
You sit on the desk and open the window.
“Um…what is your business? The next time that is available—”
“I’m not a customer but a friend.” Said a friendly voice and you noticed a very handsome man and beautiful woman are in front of you. The man was smiling while the woman wore an expressionless face similar to Suga’s. She stared at you, as if she was studying you, “If you say that J’s here, he’ll come.”
You nod, “I believe you, I’ll let you in.”
“Thanks!”
You led them to Suga’s office.
When Suga saw J, his expression became colder (if that was even possible).
“J?”
Not deterred, J smiled at Suga, “Hi Suga, it’s been a long time.”
“…is today Christmas or my birthday?”
J looked a little bashful at that, “Huh? N-no, neither one.”
“Then why the hell did you come?”
You were surprised at Suga’s words, he’s normally not so rude. The girl next to J looked as shocked as you felt.
“You don’t have to act that way anymore.”
“What?”
“Oh, it’s nothing.” J said quickly and Suga narrowed his eyes at him.
The girl tugged on J’s arm, “Let’s hurry and leave. This guy gives me the creeps.”
“Lisa, be nice.” J chided her and she pouted.
“Anyway, just tell me what you want, then leave.”, Suga said.
“Okay, I’ll tell you,” J gestured at the girl next to him, “Say ‘hi’ to my student, Lisa.”
“Student?”
“Yeah, she’s the same kind as you. An Iidae. It took me about a hundred years to teach her human feelings. During the hundred years I spent with her, I was deathly happy.”
This made Suga look at J in concern, “What?”
“As I said, deathly happy.” J gave him a smile, as if it was inside joke the two had.
“You…”
“Lisa, can you step out for a minute? I want to talk with Suga privately.”
“Y/N, go with Lisa. Take her to the kitchen or something.” Suga said distractedly, still looking at J.
Lisa looked pleased with herself, “Okay, yes, yes, I didn’t know you were that happy, I’m so embarrassed. Hurry and have your talk so that we can go home, I’ll make something delicious tonight.”
She looked at you and smiled, “Lead the way.”
SUGA P.O.V
“Suga I know you don’t like to accept wishes from friends, but this is my first and last request, so please don’t refuse me. Make her not fall in love with me.”
Suga stared at his friend, probably his closest friend.  J’s race is a tricky one, being that if they are too happy they die.
“How long has this been going on? Why didn’t you come to me earlier, we could have avoided death.”
“Avoid my death? My happiness? You’ve said it before, it’s nice to be able to die smiling. I’m happy now. But for Lisa who’ll be left alone, I can’t just leave her like that.”
Lisa is part of the Iidae, the same race as Suga. They don’t have emotions naturally, though they can be taught. The problem though is if they learn to fall in love.  They assimilate with the person they love too easily. If their loved one is happy, they are happy. If their loved one is sad, they are sad. If their loved one is sick, they will have the same illness. If their loved one died, they will die too.
So J having a fear that Lisa is in love with him is a valid fear.
“So you wish for Lisa not to fall in love with you? So that even if you die her heart won’t break. And as for your wish, what I will get in return is..”
“I don’t even need to ask. It must be her. Because there’s nothing more precious to me than her.”
“It’s catching two birds with one stone and still a happy ending. It will prevent Lisa’s heart from breaking and I’ll have to take care of the one who’ll have no place to go after your death. Though it’s so perfect, I won’t make your wish come true.”
“Why not?”
“A long time ago there was this very foolish human who made the same wish as you. Do you know the result of that wish was? Just because you wish for them to stop loving, it doesn’t mean that their memory of love disappears. A yearning is left being that torments you forever. That is pure anguish, you are no longer able to love. Do you want to leave that kind of pain with Lisa?”
“I don’t know, “J said with tears in his eyes, “I don’t know what to do anymore. This is so unfair. She just finished learning everything she needs to be able to live like a human, and at the same time she happens to fall in love with a stupid teacher who is dying. I’m so stupid. I knew it when I first saw her that one day, because of Lisa, I would be so happy that I would die. Every time I was with her, I was getting happier little by little, and dying at the same time. But I never thought she would fall in love with me and her heart might explode. I don’t know, Suga, you say that living without love is painful. It might be better to live with that kind of pain than to die of pain. Let her stop loving me. So that she won’t have any scars due to my death—"
“It’s too late, J.” Lisa opened the door and walked into the room, interrupting J’s speech, “I know now that I love you.”
“N-no, Lisa. I don’t know when you started to listen, but that isn’t love—"
“Stop it. Don’t be so foolish. What? It might be better to live in pain than to die of pain? That might be true, but isn’t that my decision to make? It’s not your choice, J.” Lisa started to tear up, “So look at me straight in my eyes and tell me. I really did fall in love with you, right? It’s true?”
J started to have tears fall down his cheeks as he waked up to Lisa and hugged her, “Yes, I guess so.”
“Fine, then let’s go home now. Let’s forget about this wish thing.”
He pulled away from her, “No, Lisa, hear me out. Since we’ve got it out in the open, it’s okay now. So please stop loving me.”
“No, J, just hear me out. I’m not as weak as you think. You’ve taught me how to be strong. You’ve not only taught me joy and warmth, but also pain and sadness and how to overcome those things. That’s why when you die, I have the confidence to not die.”
“But Lisa—”
“One more thing, you said that once I get to love another person, that my feelings merge with the one I love? Then I should also be sick, but there’s nothing wrong with me. Maybe because my love is just beginning, it might have not reacted yet. Even though I love you, it might not be to death. So don’t worry, I’m never going to die.”
“But Lis—”
“Trust me, please. I haven’t learned how to lie yet.”
“Y-yes, of course. If that’s true then I don’t have to worry.”
He looked at Suga, who was silent and expressionless this whole time.
“I’m never going to die.” Lisa said, smiling.
“Okay,” J said, “Okay, I believe you. Let’s go home.”
He brought out his hand and Lisa took it, beaming.
“Let’s go home.”
They walked out of the office, hand in hand.
About a month later Lisa was back in Suga’s office, alone. She held a box.
“Until…his final days, J seemed happy. Since we’re so different from humans, only his ashes were left behind. I want you to take care of it, Suga.”
Lisa handed Suga a box, “Why are you giving this to me?”
Lisa smiled, “There are three reasons. One, because you were my teacher’s best friend. The first time I came here you were so cold…you were just acting, right? Because if you didn’t act like that, then teacher might have been too happy every time he met you. Well maybe not to his death, but at least so much that he would be sick or a few weeks. In order to stop that, you always met him in a cold was and only a few times a year, right?”
Suga stayed silent but Lisa knew she was right.
“Two, this is most precious possession, With this I would like to make a wish.”
“A wish?”
“Actually, my teacher asked for me to do so.”
“That story, last time..the person that can’t love anymore, about being in pain, it’s your story right? Teacher wanted you to be free from that pain and even though it’s not now but someday for you to find love again.”
“Hah, in this world, there’s a fool who would make a wish for a magician?”, Suga walked over to the window and stared at nothing.
Lisa smiled, “It’s needed once in a while. Let me ask you something: do you think that teacher had seen through my obvious lie?”
“He probably didn’t notice because he was a fool.”
“Thank you, now I can finally rest in peace. The third reason as to why I give you this is because finally my heart has burst.”
Suga didn’t turned around but knew that she was gone.  That was the curse of their kind.  As Suga had said, love is dangerous for their kind.
He stared out the window in silence, remembering all the memories he had with J. J was a fellow disciple with Suga, they had the same teacher. J was the first person who held Suga’s hand and insist that it wasn’t cold. There was a time J tried to make Suga call him J-Hope, but Suga refused to. Jin used to love playing with J’s hair, especially when they were young.  Suga kept remembering random memories like that about his friend. It almost made him wish he didn’t learn the emotion of despair.
“Suga?”
He didn’t turn around at your voice.
“I brought tea…where’s Lisa?”
“She left.” Suga simply said.
“When? Which door? Why did she leave so early? I thought that maybe we would be living together…”
“By the back door. She’s gone her own way now, she won’t be coming back.”
“….really?...wait, what’s with the ash by the couch? I know for sure I cleaned here earlier…I should clean it again.”
“Let it be. I’ll clean it.”
“What? It’s okay, I’ll—”
“No….let me clean it up.”
There was a pause and it seemed like Y/N finally understood what was going on. There was no back door, that’s no normal pile of dirt, and Lisa will never be back.
You walked next to Suga and stared at the window with him, “I’m sorry.”
You went to grab his hand, anticipating the cold, so you didn’t flinch when you touched his hand.
“About what?”
“Well…many things.”
It was a long time since Suga felt the warmth of a warm hand.
And they stood there in silence and understanding.

January Media Madness
It’s a new year, and yes I’m still keeping track of the stuff I watch and/or read. I really just like being able to keep track of everything that came out during the year, and I like to shout my thoughts into the void. And maybe someone will find something they like.
Movies!
The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals: Okay, not a movie, but it’s the latest musical from Starkid so I had to include it somewhere. And this time it’s a horror alien/zombie take over that causes everyone to act like they’re in a musical, and humanity’s only hope is an average guy who happens to not like musicals. That may not sound bad, BUT THINK OF THE IMPLICATIONS! The plot could sort of meander at times, but it’s hilarious and also pretty dark for Starkid. If nothing else, watch it because Lauren Lopez is a goddess. 9/10
Tumblr media
Monty Python and the Holy Grail: Everyone’s favorite silly King Arthur searching for the holy grail story. I hadn’t watched this movie since I was a kid, and there was so much stuff I forgot about! And yeah it’s still pretty great. I do feel like it drags in the middle a little, but I still always enjoy the tomfoolery! 9/10
Three Identical Strangers: A documentary about a set of identical triplets who were separated at birth and the sinister intentions of the adoption agency who separated them. On top of being an interesting story, it is super thought provoking bringing up questions of scientific morality, nature vs nurture, and mental health...which does make it a little depressing. I love the way it sets up the mystery of the story, but it also makes you feel terrible for trying to plot out and guess the story of these actual human beings’ lives. So I’d recommend it to anyone who is interested in crazy stories and scientific corruption! 9/10
Venom: A classic tale of a boy and his symbiote. In which the weirdest investigative reporter in the world is possessed by an alien parasite while trying to stop a corrupt corporation from constantly murdering people. Guys, I originally never planned to see this movie. I never cared about Venom. I was never big into the Spiderman universe, but then this movie came out and everyone was saying how weird it was...and how Eddie and Venom are like a thing...so curiosity got the better of me. And I’m kind of underwhelmed. I think I would have liked it more if I never had any expectations going into it, because it really wasn’t as weird as I thought it would be. The first 30 minutes were a slog, the dialogue was clunky, the plot was very predictable and basic, and I feel like Eddie and Venom didn’t have enough interaction. But it had its moments, I get why some people love it, and I did like what I saw of the symbiote relationship, so all in all it was just..okay. Oh well. 6.5/10
Mama Mia Here We Go Again: The just as ridiculous sequel to Mama Mia, featuring more dumb plots that don’t fit together, more dumb writing, and more over the top performances. Just like the first one, it’s a silly excuse to put some ABBA songs in a movie and make you have fun, and it accomplishes that in spades. Because if you’re watching a Mama Mia movie for the “plot” or anything other than the musical numbers and silliness, you’re making a huge mistake. It is a little clunkier trying to weave two timelines together, but who cares because they’re singing Dancing Queen! As an actual movie, we all know it’s barely passable as a 6/10 but just for getting drunk with your friends and having fun it’s a 9/10
Tumblr media
Books!
The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis: The fifth/third book in the Chronicles of Narnia in which a boy and a talking horse run away from the land of Calormen to get to Narnia...and find out about a plot to take over Narnia along the way. I know some people think this is the most interesting book in the series plot wise, and technically there is more plot...but it’s boring as hell. I really think Lewis’s normal interjections would have made it more entertaining, but he doesn’t use his author’s voice at all! Not only is it written in an incredibly circular and drawn out way (some people literally tell stories like they’re writing the bible), but it’s also SUPER RACIST and kind of sexist too. I was so excited because when the book first started I thought we were getting a canonical protagonist of color...and then he turns out to be a kidnapped white boy surrounded by “savages.” Yes we have Aravis...but I really don’t know how to feel about her. Also Bree the horse is really just an asshole, so it’s hard to like any of the characters. I did appreciate having adult Edmund and Susan around though, so it’s not a total waste. The truth is, this is the book that I could barely get through as a kid and would constantly fall asleep reading so I barely remembered anything besides the fact that I didn’t like it. 3/10
Skyward by Brandon Sanderson: In a distant future, humans are trapped on a wasteland planet where their only hope for survival are teenagers flying spaceships while fighting a mysterious alien race. Aka: local girl is constantly dumped on by society and makes friends with a talking spaceship. Okay this book definitely has its problems, but I mostly don’t care because 1. The world building is great. 2. Spensa is a fun main character. 3. All the side characters have distinguishable personalities and interactions *cough* m-bot *cough*. And 4. The plot could be predictable at times but I really liked following the mystery of it all...even if there’s some weird chosen one type of bullshit going on towards the end. It has a major season one Attack on Titan vibe with all the questions about humanity’s history and mankind uniting to fight a mysterious enemy. This is a super fun read that kept me theorizing and was also incredibly motivational. Did I like all of Sanderson’s decisions when it came to which characters died? Hell no. Do I think the government would have a lot more backlash considering its dumbass way of fighting wars? Yes. But I’d still recommend it, and I’m still looking forward to the next book! 8/10
TV Shows!
Aggretsuko: The most adorable musical comedy anime of 2018, where Retsuko, a 25 year old office worker is getting fed up with her job and copes with life by singing aggressive death metal songs...and by the way everyone’s a cute animal. I’m a little late to this party, but this show is so precious and also disturbingly accurate to real life. Retsuko is so relatable, Haida’s crush on her is well executed and not forced, there’s great working women solidarity (Gori and Washimi are the fucking queens of anime side characters) and the metal is so well integrated! Please watch this charming show and the Christmas special if you haven’t already! I NEED ANOTHER SEASON NOW! 10/10
A Series of Unfortunate Events (season 3): The final season of the Baudelaires’ tale of misery and woe. And man did they stick the landing. “But it doesn’t leave things vague enough, they didn’t leave the sugar bowl a mystery.” GOOD! I’ve had to deal with Snicket’s badly written ending to the books since 2006. I love that they explained as much as they did. The ending was bittersweet and more concrete while still delivering the message of how the world is morally gray. Also Quigley was amazing, Sunny was amazing, FERNALD WAS AMAZING! KIT WAS AMAZING! EVERYONE WAS AMAZING! And I almost cried seeing the kids in their outfits from the book covers. I wish Jacqueline was in it, but I think her character would have felt redundant with Kit in the mix. This was an amazing adaption all around, and this season did a great job at putting some of the more...difficult books on screen without it feeling out of place. Even if you haven’t read the books, I encourage anyone who likes mysteries and different forms of storytelling to suffer with the rest of us! 10/10
Tumblr media
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K (season 1): Local overpowered psychic anime boy just wants to be ignored and blend in with society, but the universe constantly surrounds him with silly situations that cause him to use his powers. I finally got around to watching this show, and it’s hilarious. Kusuo is a great deadpan main character who is definitely ace as hell, and the English dub is actually pretty good! I don’t really want to watch the show in Japanese now because I feel like the dub does a better job at timing the comedic lines and distinguishing everyone’s thoughts. So now I’m upset that the second season hasn’t been dubbed (thanks Netflix). But yeah it’s a great silly show to binge watch. 10/10
Community: The misadventures of a wacky study group going to the world’s worst community college. You know, the one with all the memes? Okay, I know I’m the last one to watch this and  technically I still have a season and a half left at this point, but I thought I’d include it anyway. This show is such a wild ride that I don’t even know what to think about it anymore. The first two seasons were pretty average with a few absolutely brilliant episodes thrown in. And then...the paintball episodes happened, and the show just became amazing. I do have a lot of questions though....like if the main character is a lawyer (sort of), why does he never sue the dean for sexual harassment? Why does Pierce, the resident old, sexist, racist, problematic baby boomer have an “arc” centered around a logical fallacy. No one wants to hang out with him because he’s terrible, but he’s upset because he feels left out and constantly does terrible things to get back at them? I literally almost dropped the show because I couldn’t take him anymore, and then the writers just magically dial him back in his last seasons...which I’m thankful for. And I don’t even know where to being with Chang. BUT this show is a testament to creative writing and innovative meta ways to tell stories. The rest of the study group is made up of hilarious well balanced characters that all have their distinct broken but quirky personalities. And I love them all...except Pierce. So, even though I haven’t finished it, I’d give it an 8.5/10 so far.
Tumblr media
Superstore: A sitcom about the daily struggles of workers in a W*lmart-esque superstore. I finally caught up to it, and it’s still fine. It’s not great, but not terrible either. It is incredibly accurate though, coming from someone who works retail. The best parts of the show are the scene transitions because they show all the things customers are doing in the store. And most of the time I just nod and go “yeah I’ve seen that.” This is one of those shows to have on for the sake of just having something on. It has its moments. 7/10
Honorable Mentions
Because these are the reasons why I didn’t really read much this month...or watch many movies.
YOUNG JUSTICE is officially back with the long awaited season 3. And it’s still pretty great, but man I wish I had rewatched the original series.
Netflix released the Taylor Swift Reputation stadium performance. So now you all know how much of a slut for Taylor Swift I am. I can’t help it if her latest album is basically Captive Prince the musical!
The Masked Singer (US version) is dragging me into a spiral of conspiracy theories. Please watch this ridiculous reality show where celebrities wear elaborate costumes and a super annoying judging panel tries to guess who they are. I’m in hell, because this show is set up terribly, but I also don’t want to leave.
Life is Strange 2: episode 2 was finally released. And I’m actually loving it. These games have a special place in my heart for some reason.
New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe came out and I hate myself for buying these stupid games because they consume all my time, and I don’t even really like them.

Starlight Dream - Chapter 7
“Okay, what should we watch first?” Seina’s friend, Aiko, placed a collection of DVDs on the bed.
Takako sat in her pajamas on the other side of the bed they shared, arms crossed. She wondered how Seina even convinced her into participating in this ridiculous slumber party. Her eyes scanned the room, noticing the enormous stuffed animal collection her enemy had accumulated. Many were in rough shape, but Seina had put considerable effort into restoring them. Some were even of her own creation. While crude, the girl constructed them with a considerable amount of love. Takako spotted a sewing machine sitting in the corner.
“Let’s see.” Seina’s eyes scanned the random assortment of titles. Some were anime. While others were foreign films translated into Japanese. Seina’s eyes avoided anything that was horror-based, which Takako noted for later.
After scanning the titles twice, Seina nodded, picking one from the pile. “This looks super cute!” It showed a young girl with an umbrella standing next to a weird giant cat thing.
“No way! What’s with your obsession with cute things? How childish.” Takako said, unable to withhold her opinion any further. She picked a different title from the pile. It showed a picture of two scary-looking monsters fighting each other.
“What’s wrong with liking cute things?” Seina puffed out her chest.
Takako only rolled her eyes at such a childish opinion, but Colten, Seina’s fairy partner, looked thoughtful. “I suppose that isn’t surprising considering your past.”
“Her past?” Takako replied, blinking in confusion.
Seina’s expression turned painful. “Yeah, the vampire running my group enjoyed making our lives miserable, destroying anything he considered cute or beautiful. He once had me whipped for making a doll.”
“What?” Takako’s breath caught in her throat, unable to believe what she’d just heard.
“Yeah, ten lashes,” Seina replied, nodding. “It hurt so much I couldn’t sleep for days.”
Takako gaped at the girl, unable to push such a horrible image out of her mind. That’s what the ex-vampire lords did to people?
Her magical girl rival’s expressions quickly shifted into a forced smile. “But that’s ancient history! We’ve beaten the vampires for good! Besides, I actually got off easy. He could have executed me.” Seina said with shocking casualness.
Aiko smirked. “The poor idiot. He doomed his entire species!” Seina, Colten, and Aiko shared a laugh about this.
“The taskmaster of my group was a real jerk, too. He enjoyed randomly depriving us of food rations. We wondered every day whether we’d even get fed.” Aiko looked towards Takako, studying her. “I’m surprised this shocks you so much. It was pretty standard from what I understand. Did you have a nicer taskmaster or something, Maeko?”
“No! Mine was a real jerk as well!” Takako said a bit too quickly. “I’d rather not talk about it. It wasn’t great.” Much to Takako’s relief, the two girls nodded. They didn’t press their new friend further on her fake history.
“I understand,” Seina replied, putting a comforting hand on Takako’s own. “But if you ever want to talk about it, we’re here. I find speaking about it helps.”
Takako forced her own smile. “Right.” Still, she couldn’t suppress her horror. She hated the haunted look in Seina’s eyes. How much horror had this ten-year-old girl suffered through?
And I’m working with those people. Her mind flashed back to the vampire queen bragging about returning her kind to their former glory. Takako shook her head, considering such thoughts foolish for a magical girl. Such sentimentality was a weakness! Besides, Takako was a bad girl, completely heartless. Caring about such nonsense was beyond her.
She coughed, eager to change the subject, grabbing the DVD Seina had picked. “On second thought, let’s watch it! It looks good.”
“Yes!” Seina beamed, placing the disc into the DVD player, forgetting their previous conversation, much to Takako’s relief.
Despite herself, Takako found herself charmed by the movie. Unfortunately, the disc had some serious scratches, stopping midway. Aiko declared she’d use her contacts to find another copy, so they could finish the final twenty minutes.
“Contacts?” Takako asked, bewildered. Wasn’t she a ten-year-old? Why would she have anything like that?
Aiko’s eyes glinted with triumph and mischief. “You underestimate my power. In this world, you can’t achieve anything unless you’re well connected. Besides, I have to support Seina somehow. I’m not strong, but I still have her back.”
“Right,” Takako replied, uncertain if the girl was making this up. “Anyway, how about this movie?” The cover depicted a woman in a white gown whose long stringy hair completely masked her face. A giant white ring surrounded her.
“Must we?” Seina’s voice became weak. “I don't like scary things.”
“You fight actual monsters!” Takako replied, incredulous.
“I know, it’s stupid. But, the characters in those movies don’t have my abilities. I don’t like watching them get hurt.” Seina’s voice trailed off.
Colten flipped in the air. “You’re so nice, Seina.”
Strange girl. Still, Takako hid a secret smile, glad she’d already discerned several of Seina’s weaknesses.
“That’s fine. I wasn’t in the mood for another movie, anyway.” Aiko turned her attention towards Takako. “Maeko? You haven’t suggested anything yet. You’ve been going along with whatever we’ve wanted.”
“Maeko?” Seina asked, getting Takako’s full attention.
“Right! I suppose that’s true!” Takako coughed in her fist, pretending she’d been spacing out. In reality, her fake name was still unfamiliar to her. If she wasn’t careful, they might get suspicious.
What do I want to do? Usually, she enjoyed curling up on a couch, reading manga in her spare time. Takako wasn’t a social creature, enjoying being alone. Other people were so lame. It’d been centuries since she’d hung out with anyone other than Nier. Much to her horror, Takako realized she looked like a deer caught in headlights, paralyzed by this simple question.
“Talk, I guess?” Takako faked a smile, hating her lame half-hearted answer.
“Oh, sure!” Seina said, nodding.
Aiko yawned. “Yeah, it’s getting late, anyway.”
“You know, Maeko,” Seina said, her eyes eager. “You have spoken little about yourself.”
Takako smirked. They’d prepared for this. The vampires had forced her to spend hours memorizing this backstory. That effort was about to pay off. With her expert acting skills, no one would ever suspect a thing.
“I’m no one special,” Takako replied. “I’m originally from Tokyo until we moved here. My father was a clerk before the vampire uprising. My mom was a housewife. They had us working in food processing before you defeated them all. My father got a job in Osaka, and we moved here. Tokyo is still in rough shape. My parents thought it would be safer living here. Like I said, not that exciting.”
Aiko nodded. “So that’s why you have a Tokyo accent. I was wondering about that.”
While powerful, Shinobu’s illusions couldn’t disguise Takako’s natural voice. Any attempt to fake an accent failed miserably. But with a slight shift in pitch, it changed her voice enough to sound different. It was an impressive feat even for her.
“So, why are you so acrobatic?” Seina asked. “I can’t imagine food processing would need such a high level of athleticism.”
“Yeah!” Aiko said, enthused. “I’ve seen nothing like it!”
“Well.” Takako faltered. While they’d devised many fake stories for her past, none of them covered something like this. Her mind raced as her audience watched her expectantly, eager to hear her answer.
“Well, you know. I’m just that good!” Takako replied, her voice smug. “I’m just very talented.” Try questioning that!
“So, you’ve been training on the side?” Seina asked, trying to understand her new friend’s response. “Food processing must have better hours. After the usual 78-hour workweek, I barely had enough energy to sleep.”
Aiko nodded. “Wow, Seina, you must have had a particularly cruel taskmaster. Mine only made me work 76!”
“Really?! I’m so jealous!” Seina replied. “Only 76? Boggles the mind.”
Takako waited for the girls to smile and tell her they were joking. Much to her horror, she realized they were serious. Even the hardest-pushed salarymen didn’t work that many hours. The vampires made ten-year-olds work those hours?
She examined the two girls closer, horrified by what she saw. Both looked dangerously thin and unhealthy, with pale skin and bags under their eyes. Two weeks of better food and freedom had only slightly improved their condition. Takako recoiled in disgust. Her mind returned to the other citizenry she’d seen, recalling their similarly poor condition.
“How about you, Maeko? How many hours did you work?” Aiko asked, returning her attention back towards Takako.
Takako found herself lost for words for several moments. What was wrong with her? After a deep breath, she regained her confidence. Takako Kodama was a magical girl of the highest caliber, unshakable and evil to the core.
“70. Such long hours weren't necessary in food processing.” A light flashed into her head, providing inspiration. “I’m so athletic because the higher-ups enjoyed some entertainment. If I performed well for them, they provided us with extra food rations.”
“Wow, lucky!” Both girls cooed in amazement.
“I guess some vampires have half of a heart after all?” Colten said.
Takako coughed. “It’s getting late. How about we get to bed? Don’t we need to wake up at 6 this morning?” She had no desire to hear more about their horrible life before Seina became a magical girl.
Seina sighed and yawned. “That’s true. I’m still not used to these 8 hour nights.”
“I know, right!” Aiko replied, nodding.
“Night!” Takako quickly switched off the room’s light. Why was everything in Seina’s old life so horrible? The girl didn’t even mind waking up before dawn. It was beyond inhuman!
Takako facepalmed, realizing she’d agreed to wake that early too. I really hate this assignment. I should be back in Starlight Dream playing video games!
“Night!” Seina said, snuggling up with Colten next to Takako.
“Night!” Aiko said from the bed’s far end.
“Night,” Takako replied with little enthusiasm.
The other two girls fell asleep almost instantly, leaving a wide-eyed, restless Takako alone with her thoughts. She replayed the conversion in her head, realizing she’d learned more about her foe than she ever desired. The girl was too open about her past. Didn’t she realize how uncool that was? She couldn’t help but remark how different from the other magical girls Seina was. Not just her kindness, she also radiated a light the others didn’t.
What are you, Seina Kamiyama? Terrible past aside, you’re just an ordinary girl. You have no training or skill, yet power radiates from you, bursting at the seams. These questions troubled Takako deep into the night.
---
Maeko snorted, proud of herself, reaching the finish line first. “Is that all you’ve got, Seina?”
“This isn’t a competition, Maeko,” Seina replied, panting as she met the stopping point.
Besides martial arts, Mr. Kiyojiro had ordered other physical training. The bodyguard wanted to give them more well-rounded physical capabilities. Seina hated every moment. Maeko, however, seemed to relish in it, especially whenever she beat her so-called rival. Her friend couldn’t help but gloat whenever she won. Despite herself, Seina resisted the urge to transform and humble the proud girl. No, that wouldn’t be fair. She’d win through her own efforts.
“Ugh, so close!” Colten said.
Mr. Kiyojiro looked at his stopwatch and nodded. “You’re doing much better, Seina. Good work.”
“Indeed, give it a few years, and you’ll be capable of matching me,” Maeko said.
What’s with this girl, anyway? Still, despite Maeko’s over-competitiveness, Seina had enjoyed the girl’s company the last few days. They had more in common than Seina had expected. She enjoyed reading the manga her new friend brought her. They shared a surprising interest in sports manga. Seina particularly enjoyed the one about the boy playing basketball. She found it endearing how hard he worked to earn his crush’s affections by learning the sport. She just hoped the oblivious girl would notice and appreciate his efforts. Love was complicated. Hopefully, her future romantic prospects would be easier.
Oh, it won’t be. Seina’s mood plummeted, remembering, as a magical girl, she didn’t age. It was something she avoided thinking about. It was probably easier for the evil magical girls. But Seina was an ordinary girl with actual aspirations for her life. What would her future be like? Fighting monsters forever alone with no one else, friends or boyfriend? Some future.
No, don’t think like that! You’re a smart girl! You figure out some solution to your not aging problem. Besides, love was never off the table! Seina laughed to herself, glad she’d resolved that particular issue.
“Again.” Mr. Kiyojiro said, thankfully pulling her away from her dark thoughts. For once, she welcomed the hard physical labor, providing an excellent distraction.
---
“You really seem to enjoy this Maeko,” Aiko said as they exited the dojo.
“What can I say? When you’re good, you’re good.” Takako smirked. While she had a reputation as a lazy layabout amongst the magical girls, she worked hard when motivated.
“Sure, sure.” Seina rolled her eyes. “See you tomorrow.”
“Night.” She waved goodbye, heading back towards Lilha’s apartment. It was a dump, and Takako hated living in the cramped place. While tempted to ask for another sleepover, she decided against it, considering it too presumptuous. She couldn’t allow her rival to become suspicious. Besides, it would give the impression of a clingy girl with no other friends.
“How’d the training go?” Nier asked as Takako entered the apartment, slinging herself onto the couch. “You look tired.”
“Yeah, Mr. Kiyojiro pushes us super hard. He’s serious about preparing her to fight against the other magical girls.” Her fairy companion became thoughtful.
“What’s the matter?” Takako asked.
“Can she be a threat, though? Her magical skills are a joke, but her physical power still makes her dangerous.” Neir paced for several moments before returning his attention to his partner. “What am I worried about? Without magic, she can’t beat any magical girls above your level. Their special abilities would make quick work of her.”
Takako placed her feet on the couch’s leg. “True enough. She’s still bothersome though.” She knew a magical girl capable of reversing vectors, any vectors. Seina’s mighty strength would be useless against her.
“Still though. It’s baffling that she’s so powerful.” Takako said. “It’s worth investigating. I doubt it’s Seina herself. She’s too ordinary to be anything special.”
“I know right,” Neir said. “Watch the fort for a while. I’m returning to Starlight Dream for some research. There’s an old archive no one really uses anymore. And I’ll talk with the other fairies to see if they’ve noticed any anomalies in their partners. It would be bad if someone more magically competent gained Seina’s strength.”
“So lame. You’re leaving me all alone.” For some reason, being separated from her fairy partner irked Takako’s stomach.
“It won’t be forever,” Nier replied, rolling his eyes. “But my gut tells me this is important.”
Takako waved a dismissive hand. “Go on. Good luck.” With a nod, Neir created a tiny portal in the air and vanished through it.
Fantastic. Until her fairy friend returned, Takako couldn’t leave this universe. Only fairies had the power to transport through the cracks between universes. She shrugged and tried to push aside her anxiety before opening the latest issue of Shonen Hop.
“Where’s your fairy friend?” Lilha asked, entering the living room still wearing her work clothes.
“Magical girl business.” The vampire queen waited for further explanation, but received none.
“Fine, this won’t interfere with your powers?” Lilha asked through clenched teeth.
“No.”
“Good, we’re accelerating the plan. Shinobu found an excellent location for our ambush. I’ve also found some extra muscle.” Lilha gestured to the muscular beast of a man behind her. “This name is Jertin. He’s the leader of the band of vampires I found in Ginza.”
“That magical girl has underestimated us.” Jertin clinched his enormous fist. “We will show her what true power is!”
Lilha giggled. “Yes, we will finally return to our perfect world!”
Takako’s mind returned to Seina’s description of the world ruled by vampires. The haunted look on the girl’s face returned unbidden.
Forget about it, Takako. You’re a magical girl. You exist to bring horror and despair! Takako lost her appetite to read her manga, placing it aside.
“Now be a useful girl and find Shinobu,” Lilha said. “We need him to stay with Jertin and his band for a few days. He needs to create a disguise to mask their presence. We can’t afford for Seina to catch wind of them.”
“Do it yourself. I don’t do errands.”
Lilha’s face twisted in hate in frustration. The queen had hated her from the day they first met. “Useless girl! Play your part! I worked too hard for the plan to fail now. You do nothing but read manga and lie around!”
She’s finally lashing out? That’s new. “I’m the only reason this plan will work,” Takako replied, reasonably. “Besides, I am working hard. I’m training with Seina, remember?”
“Yes, but we need to work together. What I’m asking isn’t tough.” While calmer, the vampire queen’s hostility still hadn’t vanished.
“You should obey the queen.” Jentin’s tone was acidic. “You’re not the only one training hard, little girl.”
“I’m going out.” Takako rose from her seat. The apartment’s atmosphere had become sour. Besides, with Neir gone, she had no reason to stay here. She’d never liked the vampires, anyway.
“What?!” Lilha said, outraged at being dismissed so easily. Takako disappeared out the door before she could utter another word.
What I’m I doing here? Takako stood in front of the Prime Minister’s apartment building. Two guards watched the entrance, but they gave her warm smiles, happy to see her.
“May I help you, Maeko?” A guard asked. “Did you forget something?”
“Um, no. I was wondering if Seina was interested in an impromptu sleepover!” Takako replied, inwardly wincing at how lame she sounded.
“I’ll go ask her.” The guard smiled and nodded, not finding this strange in the slightest, vanishing inside.
A moment later, Seina appeared alongside him with Colten on her shoulder. “Hey! You said something about a sleepover.”
“Yeah, things are lame back home. I was wondering if I could stay at your place,” Takako replied.
Seina studied her for several moments before nodding. “Sure. You’re always welcome!”
“Really?” Takako said, astonished. That was too easy.
“Sure. We’re friends, aren’t we? I’ll ask Mr. Kiyojiro if he can find us some ice cream!”
What is with this girl? But she didn’t protest as Seina took her by the arm, pulling her along inside. Takako wore a slight grin on her face.

DID THEY PASS? WE DON’T KNOW AHAHHH
MEANINGFUL STARES
and then just the Disappear is so good
ok uh first
1. Sam praying. I don’t really know why this one got me, but the fact that Sam believes in a higher power, or tried to believe with his entire soul, and Dean desperately tries to get his brother to believe in something(unbroken? tries to make sure he’s ok because Dean never will be? Something like that?) feels important? Or maybe it’s that for Dean, Dad’s Orders and Consequence hit as the Ultimate Punishment, whereas Sam got to relax about it a bit
Look am I directly finding parallels to my own experience now? yes of course, it’s my unparalleled media experience and I can project if I want to. I’m WAY more scared of my parents/dad and what they do than I am of any higher power(crying while driving home as Vibe Music that I generally enjoy vs the Season 3 finale scene wheeee), whereas my sister actually tried to give religion a fair shot and used to pray. It’s not a direct parallel, but it’s been a bad day, I wanna put that in there somewhere
(also if it genuinely wasn’t my fault and I just assumed that I would never be able to explain my way out of anything so I shouldn’t try, leading me wishing to never be perceived so I don’t get punished for things that weren’t my fault. If true then Pain)
*insert Paws Meme*
2. Smart Sam. I liked Sam being smart, doing shit for the case in interesting ways, and I really like his powers plot line! Like you’re right dude! Heaven has no compelling reasoning other than “because I told you so” and it’s way more practical to just do it! His mom and girlfriend are already dead there’s nothing else to be done now! Like! Sam’s Antichrist arc is actually interesting! And I like him getting to be a character! The mask Idea was SO NEAT!!
3. bad apples+mission from God. I. Ok. Listen. This is just that one loaded conversation with “bad apple”(I’d like to point out that at some point it shows Cas as the Only Good One, right? dismantle the institution type thing, right? Is that what they were going for?) and also that “people who believe they have a mission from God do bad thing” LIKE SO CLOSE ! To SO MANY! lOADED THINGS! A G H
Look I’m too tired to type out all my thoughts to this, but I think you get the point that this is shit I wish they’d explored more
4. I entirely forgot that whole thing where they tried to show Dean objectifying teen girls and accidentally made Dean sound like he wanted to be a girl. Like even if that’s simply sexuality, or both gender and sexuality...like that’s. how did you do this. How did you accidentally make him like this.
5. Cas/Cas+Dean. Ok first off, having him desperately try to save humanity(reminds me of aziraphale) is so interesting! like It feels like Dean(who's working on not taking orders blindly anymore following that demon deal) doesn’t like seeing Castiel and Heaven because it reminds him of that part of himself he’s worthing through! and that one scene where Cas said “I’m not a hammer”(Directly parallel to “Daddy’s blunt little instrument”) is like. Dean started that journey in Cas. Getting him to question things.
that whole thing about “I know this was a test, but we don’t know if you failed it or not” because I don’t know what God would want because God’s the ever present father figure for Cas, and Dean’s lack of faith in God, and Cas’s lack of faith in God and
ok they have an INCREDIBLY compelling story currently, and I am kinda excited to see where they go with it.
yknow before the queer bait REALLY sets in
6. I was ready to write this episode off with the horror but the iconography at the end with the seal/witch/Sam and Dean scene was rEAlly fucking cool and I loved it.
7. the beginning of the stares
