To Be Good Enough

Summery:

Marcus is a fuck up but he's working on it.

Marcus is a complete and utter fuck up.

He knows it. His parents know it. Everyone knows it.

He’s not smart, even when he tries very hard to be.

All he can do well is quidditch and even then that’s not something that's good to be good at. It’s nothing special. It’s nothing impressive. It’s a child's hobby, a way to waste the day away.

His family name and what that brought him is all he had and he was a disgrace to that very family. He’s well aware of that, even with how much he hates it, he never seemed to be able to actually change it. That fact he couldn't get it together enough to at least get by– He used to think he was lucky he was an only child. He’s sure he would have been thrown out a long time ago if he wasn't. Mother and Father may never have said that but their actions have always made it loud and clear.

No matter what he did it wouldn't ever fully replace the many ways that he’s failed them. The many ways he’s been a disgrace to his family's name. The many ways he’s let them down by not being enough. Not being smart enough. Not being good enough. Not being Flint enough.

He was given so many chances to prove himself worthy of the name. In the end though he chose on his own to walk away. He was still a coward about it. Waiting until the very last moment to leave. Choosing mere days before the planned wedding to run. His mother assumed it was to do with the bride and had tried to talk him out of it but it didn’t have anything to do with her. Marcus didn’t even know her, really.

No, it never had anything to do with her. It had everything to do with the man now in his arms. The man who had looked at him with such fury and refused to even speak to him for weeks when he first told him about his impending marriage. The man who kicked him out of his flat without a second thought that night. Yet, still let Marcus back in when he came back a few days later, drunk out of his mind.

Marcus is a coward. It took days to work up the courage to decide to leave and days more to actually follow through with it. To look his parents in the eye and tell them he wasn’t going through with it would have been impossible, so he did it by letter. A single letter sent with a random post owl that will change the rest of his life. Marcus doesn’t need them anymore. He has all he could want right here in his arms. So no matter what they decide to try to do to him, he’s going to be happy.

dont get me wrong cuz I DO appreciate Larian continuing to work on the game and trying to fix issues etc but like. mr Larian PLEASE stop responding to fan feedback. Theres like 2 million people playing this game ofc some of them will say character x should be nicer or cuter or do a little dance but that doesnt mean u gotta do it. you dont gotta call neil newbon or whoever up like come to the studio we need to rerecord everything bc a person on reddit said theyd like it better. You’ve worked on these characters for over 4 years and you are allowed to stand by your creation. None of what I said applies to Wyll’s underdevelopment btw but you all know that
