so like i am starting to believe with maybe my whole heart that poem 16 is the key to like, everything that tom wants. AND, since i'll never shut up about this pair for the rest of my life, maybe also the key to why his partnership with darling is so important.

zane's spiral and alan's spiral go in opposite directions, i noticed recently. and... i dunno. that's actually completely revelatory to me as far as my understanding of... well, idk who he is still, but i think i definitely have a better grasp of what he wants now. (i've connected the two dots.jpg)

deep enough to punch a hole into the universe. darling's already transcended his own humanity once. who else can even fathom some of the things he's already been shown? if anyone has the ability and desire to help tom reach the bottom of the ocean, it's darling. what's waiting for them there?

alan's been trying to crawl up the spiral until he reaches the surface. to get out. zane talks like he's trying to do the same, but what if he isn't trying to get out? or at least... not trying to move in the same direction as alan? what if zane is trying to go deeper?
