(3 for 3! Get Saki'd, idiot!) then working too hard to do ANYTHING please that person (even though they might not really be the best person and are using you)

Go on boy, ditch your weird friends and your hobbies and things that make you happy and settle for the stable but soulless option of being a manager at a job you hate! (I am a firm believer in a "Manager of Junes Yosuke NOT good enrichment" after all.) Cause all thats embarrassing. dont you want me to be proud of you? The only person who's ever loooved you for you? (which is fundamentally untrue but when has depression or manipulation ever been rational?)

n/e/way one nasty divorce later and he's moving back to inaba for the cheaper rent for a place a that can actually fit him and a kid- and to be closer to his parents- hoping that maybe they would able to help out with the kid. Teddie and his niece bonding, Yosuke crying in some kind of relief and/or happiness when Kanji helps him dye his hair back again, Naoto helping him keep custody (so hard for a guy!!!) and Chie finally getting her usual banter back (thank god!) only for Yuuko to step up and kick Chie and forcing Yoosk to admit that what he and Chie have isn't antagonism (via explaining it to her)

Genuine Question, would Yosuke(?) be the only one "awake"? Or can he influence the others to awaken?

If not, then, is it possible for Yosuke(?)nto transfer devices? I feel like, depending on which one y(o)u got the game on (PC vs Console) he can hop in other devices using a cable/wifi

As far as he's aware - he's the only one 'awake' in his little video game. no one is really capable to have the same abilities as he does. And when he 'tries' to influence his corruption to the code, it only managed to make the game restart in the process. Thus his 'loneliness' began to manifest. Until Y(o)u appeared, and his little mind expanded to 'oh my god someone i could talk to'. He still doesn't know how to socially interact with Y(o)u, but its worth a shot to stop the game and talk to the only person willing (desperately forcing him to stay) to hang out with our silly goober

as for devices - yosuke is not... well adapt yet to jump into different devices. that seemed too much of a hassle!

but i do know yu as the player has thought of it once in a while - his lonely life had gotten more interesting as he kept yosuke along. The cost for a digital roommate? a clingy and depraved man who could not live another second without yu by his side.

So... for now, hell keep that thought in mind.

now i’m curious, how do you view souji/yu’s, complicity in? tolerance of? yosuke’s behaviour? cause to me it’s like, largely a symptom of Persona Protagonism, but i think it also kinda has to say something about the character himself, doesn’t it? what are your thoughts on it?

Oh and absolutely agree w you that its largely a symptom of Persona Protagonism, but considering that leaves us with kind of boring conclusions imo characterisation wise, I find it fun to try fit the pieces together.

souji’s persona awakening manages to convey so little a hook to his character it’s impressive but I do find the idea that he’s self aware to the point of not manifesting a shadow self really interesting. Esp taken in conjunction with the way a lot of his early game characterisation is kinda. stay in my own lane assholeish?

he takes note of Yosuke flailing about in pain twice and his conclusion is pretty much. That looks like it hurt, oh well doesnt concern me. And the player has no control over that.

those first nights, he doesn’t obey Dojima’s instruction to remain at the house at night out of familial affection, but rather obeys when Dojima is present out of a sense of like. feeling and submitting to the presence of parental/adult authority. Dojima doesn’t even need to say anything, the text moreso notes the presence of his authority as an adult and that alone mandates submission. But when Dojima is gone, there’s no inkling of needing to adhere to that authority if not physically present.

there’s a lot of elements that are really interesting there and I think gain another dimension when considering what the lens of queerness does to how we examine that kind of behaviour.

it creates an image of the kind of person has like. absolutely no illusions to the nature of their actions, who is plausibly able to defend queerness within the relatively private sphere of social links (kanji and naoto, even if with the latter, expressing acceptance of naoto’s queerness locks you out of the romance route. Which is. wow.), but absolutely recuses himself from anything but a position of ‘neutrality’ and silence when in the public sphere and in amongst public opinion (of which yosuke is a pretty big indicator and adherent lmao. god u gotta love a guy terrified of being alien to the hegemony).

It speaks to some really interesting conclusions you can draw from. All of that. Tbh.

I would gladly read an essay about how Teddie and Yosuke compliment and are parallels of each other!! (I just love reading essays about P4 analysis let's be honest)

Ooooh okay oh god let's see if I can be coherent about this

So I think for me one of the big parallels about Teddie and Yosuke is really in the way they interact or communicate with others, and I think Teddie tends to imitate Yosuke but also in a way that also exaggerates Yosuke's traits, for better or for worse.

For example the way Yosuke hits on people especially earlier on - I feel like it starts to taper off a bit as the game continues, and especially after Teddie joins the team. I'm kind of of the attitude that Teddie doesn't really know what he's talking about, so he's just kind of innocently mimicking what Yosuke says or reads in his books, and whether that's Yosuke overcompensating with performance to hide his queerness or him just being a hot blooded teenage boy with a lot of influence from other dumb hot blooded teenage boys from his hometown, I think that him seeing Teddie with that behaviour makes him 1. Reflect more on himself and realise that that's actually quite unpleasant 2. Take responsibility as Teddie's older brother to "teach" him properly. And I actually think that's super cute, so even though I roll my eyes whenever Teddie makes a comment like that I'm also like. This is a reflection of Teddie's status as Yosuke's younger brother and just being very impressionable as younger brothers are when they have an older sibling they look up to.

It's also in the behaviour that Teddie has in Yosuke's house

I thought this was so funny because when Yosuke was at Yu's house the first time he sort of barged in and started investigating Yu's futon for Yu's dirty mags, so it's really similar behaviour??

But I also think Teddie takes after Yosuke in all his best ways as well. Look at how Teddie expresses worry for others even though he struggles with his words, just like Yosuke - when Yosuke was upset and Teddie asks him if he had a tummy ache, because he understands that Yosuke is in pain but doesn't know best how to ask after him. It reminds me a lot of that scene in p4au where Yosuke tried to assuage a worried Chie by teasing her with a distraction by pinching her nose (and it works!?)

Like. I think yosuke has definitely gotten better with it over time in being the reliable one that the IT trusts and look to for emotional support, but he was way clumsier before. And I think the point is not so much that they're bad with it, but that neither of them let it stop them from trying to express their concern for their friends anyway even though they don't know how to tackle it head on, and I love that so much.

Ultimately I think Teddie really brings out the best in Yosuke by making him more responsible? And idk I think a lot about this comment from Yosuke a lot

And I think with Teddie especially, it really shows, especially with how Teddie really does listen to him or look up to him. I love that Yosuke didn't really need to take Teddie home at the get go, but no one else knew what to do with him so Yosuke just stepped up. Teddie talks about how he crawls into Yosuke's bed for cuddles and Yosuke complains a lot about how much he hates it but he's also SO SOFT FOR TEDDIE and it makes me weak ngl, so idk, I think with the way Yosuke deflects a lot of makes me think he lets Teddie do whatever as long as it doesn't inconvenience other people. And the way Yosuke takes charge of Teddie in trying to teach him. Him giving Teddie a phone so he can stay in touch with everyone else. This is not a parallel anymore but THEM....
