How about Humphrey for the character ask game? 💙
Ahhhhh thank you so much for submitting something and for choosing Humphrey! He is probably my favourite character in the whole series (well, it switches between him, Thomas and Cap but y’know) 😄
Favourite thing: It might be cheating a bit, but I’d say his personality! He just seems to be really kind and always down for a laugh. He’s very selfless (think about how he died!), and is just a very genial person.
Least favourite thing: My least favourite thing isn’t actually his fault, but it’s how little (relatively speaking) he gets to interact with the other ghosts. He’s so excited when he does get to spend time with them that it makes me really sad thinking about how much time he must have spent alone, knowing they’re all together.
Favourite line: Ooh, it’s a tough one, but I think I’d have to go with: “13. She’s just had another one. Little boy. We’re going to call him Cheddar.” That whole scene is one of my favourites from the entire show, but that line always makes me laugh a lot!
BrOTP: This one’s difficult because he doesn’t really seem to have especially deep friendships with any of the ghosts (I hope they change that in S4!). I’d probably say the Captain, because their interactions are always quite fun, or Mary—I like to think that they become quite good friends in the end, especially after she helps him hide from Thomas in S3E6!
OTP: Humphrey/Thomas (is there a name for that one yet??) all the way! It’s largely based on conjecture because, again, Humphrey doesn’t get to spend as much time with the others, but Thomas is the one that carries him around the most (even when he’s not dropkicking him), and… I’m not sure exactly! It just feels like there would be potential for them to grow rather close with and fond of each other over time, and their personalities contrast each other in complimentary ways (e.g., Thomas’ penchant for melodrama vs Humphrey’s calm rationality; Thomas’ inadvertent selfishness vs Humphrey’s fatal selflessness; Thomas’ usual lack of self-awareness vs Humphrey’s painful awareness of his situation), but they still have a lot of things in common (the main one is that they both just want to be included, but they’re also both passionate about the arts, and both of them seem to just want someone to love them for who they are).
NOTP: Honestly I don’t really ship Humphrey with anyone other than Thomas, but I feel like I have to give a specific answer, so I’ll go with Humphrey/Fanny. Most of that episode kind of gives me the ick, because the thinking part of Humphrey doesn’t actually consent until the end, but, that aside, they tried it (briefly) and it just didn’t work.
Random headcanon: I can’t narrow it down to one so I have three, some more plausible than the others:
1. Given the choice to live any life he wanted, Humphrey would have been a painter. It’s not really a headcanon, considering how in S3E1 he wonders if that’s what he’s famous for, but I just think it’s a lovely concept.
2. Humphrey would 100% be the biggest family man. This one is also kind of not a headcanon, in as much as he says that he would have liked to marry for love if given the choice, but I think he would absolutely have wanted to have the biggest family. He would have been so proud of his kids, too: he’d do the Tudor equivalent of sticking their drawings on the fridge, carry them on his shoulders until he actually couldn’t anymore, teach them to fish and play his favourite games and read and write—all of that!
3. Humphrey is terrified of spiders. He wasn’t so much when he was alive, but hundreds of years of not being able to move away from them when they were coming up to him changed that.
Unpopular opinion: It’s hard to think of an unpopular opinion for Humphrey, because he’s such a lad and all-round nice guy that I don’t think there really are any. If I had to really think about it, I suppose I’d say that he needs to get on better with his body (i.e., not insult it, as funny as it might be) so he can stay connected to it more (I imagine when he gets punched off in That Episode With Fanny it’s not the first time it happened!). I’m not sure—I struggled with this one!
Favourite picture: Okay I have a favourite Humphrey picture that always makes me laugh and a bonus Larry-in-part-Humphrey-costume picture also because it makes me laugh:
