Batman: The Audio Adventures is about two things: goofy-ass worldbuilding and villain monologues. That's it, that's the podcast. Funny Gotham public service announcement, followed by a rogue giving a gay little speech while they literally torture somebody to death, rinse and repeat. And it's awesome.
#i actually love their joker which is fun because i feel like he's so hard to get right#but when he like. calls in to a radio show. and tells some jokes with the host and they just kinda vibe for a bit#and then he starts talking about the guy's real name and home address and his pets#and you realize that he's currently calling from inside the man's apartment#so excellent#oh i forgot a very important part of the show's formula#which is the narrator making an overly alliterative metaphor and saying the words 'Gotham City' in his dramatic tone of voice#'another tale of life and death in gotham city' is seared into my brain and tbh I ain't mad#i wish the show was more popular 😭😭😭😭#i feel like so many people are missing out#batman the audio adventures#btaa#batman#batfam#dc#my rambles

Silly little lando norris smau (part 4)
Series Masterlist
Masterlist
In which streamer!reader does an interview and exposes some important news.
Is this an excuse to write a chuckle sandwich interview? Yes. Am i including Slimecicle in this despite his unfortunate departure? Yes. Is this the silliest thing I've ever written? Yes. Is it in script format because i can't be bothered to write an actual fanfic at the moment? Absolutely.
[transcript of the "Chuckle Sandwich" podcast]
JSchlatt: you know, I heard that you managed to turn Charlie into a cat? How…
Charlie: (laughing) how did you… do that?
Y/N: it wasn’t me; it was my boyfriend.
Ted: your boyfriend, hit formula one driver, Lando Norris?
Y/N: mhm.
JSchlatt: wow…
Charlie: you think you know a guy…
Ted: and you just kept Charlie in your house?
Y/N: mhm, fed him three times a day. I mean, surely you remember this, Charlie?
Charlie: (laughing) yeah, multiple toys, got to drive my own race car, truly living the life.
Ted: in Monaco?
Charlie: in Monaco.
JSchlatt: welcome to chuckle sandwich, we have (your user).
[intro]
Ted: we have this segment we do with all our guests. The premise is, we all make up a piece of the sandwich, Charlie is the meat, ted is the bread, and Schlatt is the mayo. The question is, Y/N, is what are you?
Y/N: what am I?
Ted: what are you?
Y/N: hm… id say… maybe the crisps on the side.
JSchlatt: the crisps?
Y/N: chips
JSchlatt: ah.
Charlie: so, Y/N…
Y/N: Charlie…
Charlie: It’s been a very interesting time for you.
Y/N: like, in general or, like, specifically now?
Ted: I’m assuming he means recently
JSchlatt: don’t assume what he means.
Ted: I’m just saying!
Y/N: (laughing) it has been interesting recently, to answer your question.
Ted: moved to Monaco.
Y/N: I did.
Charlie: turned me into a cat.
Y/N: (laughing) that was Lando.
JSchlatt: had a child?
Y/N: oh shit! I forgot about that!
Ted: how… how did that rumour start?
Y/N: I have no idea; I just woke up to that post on twitter and a message from a very urgent Charlie asking what kind of toys the baby likes.
JSchlatt: any other reactions?
Y/N: Lando got a message from his teammate, Oscar Piastri, who was very… angry that he didn’t tell him… oh yeah, there were also a lot of congrats messages from the others on the grid as well. Neither of us knew what was going on.
Ted: I bet, it’s a very..
Charlie: very personal situation
Y/N: definitely. I… I knew what I was getting into, not even when dating Lando but with choosing this career.
JSchlatt: hmm, oh yeah.
Ted: so when people came up with this rumour?
Y/N: it was odd. I wasn’t as pissed as people would think, but I wasn’t exactly happy.
Charlie: and, just to give those who don’t know about your life, can you tell us who your boyfriend is, what he does, how you met-
JSchlatt: what he’s like in bed, everything.
Y/N: (laughing) my boyfriend is Lando Norris, he’s one of two drivers on the McLaren team in Formula One, we met via a mutual friend, Max, who invited me to be in a Quadrant video.
Ted: I’m assuming a different Max to the red bull guy
Y/N: different max, yeah. We hung out more because my friend Will, WillNE, umm, is now a co-owner of Quadrant, so when that stuff was being sorted which took… a while, umm, me and Lando talked for a bit about random stuff.
Charlie: and you then fell in love, or?”
Y/N: we flirted but neither of us really… were serious. We had kind of a friends with benefits thing for a while, but it ended when I got serious with my ex, so our relationship was very… rocky.
JSchlatt: did you know that he was a Formula One driver?
Y/N: Will had to be the one to tell me, I honestly just thought he was a streamer.
Ted: really?
Y/N: I hadn’t watched F1 since I was about ten and even then, I only really paid attention to the drivers when they appeared on Top Gear.
Charlie: Top Gear?
Y/N: British car show,, they had this segment called ‘the star in a reasonably priced car’ where they’d interview a celebrity and then have them drive around a track in something that would be considered a common car like a kia or something. I remember seeing Hamilton get the top score for ages but I’m pretty sure Daniel had it when the show ended.
Ted: are you close with the other drivers?
Y/N: I mean, I’ve talked to Oscar and Carlos a bit because… you know, but I wouldn’t say I’m very… close to them. Lando has his friends, I have my friends, it just so happens that some of those overlap. Would I like to be closer to the other drivers? If I’m being entirely honest, I’m happy where I am now.
Ted: now, you moved to Monaco earlier this year, what was that like?
Y/N: stressful, I couldn’t say ‘I’m moving in with my boyfriend’ but I also couldn’t keep the entire move a secret because then people would be like ‘why aren’t you streaming with James anymore?’ and start stupid rumours like they always do.
JSchlatt: what you did there was make people think you moved to evade taxes.
Y/N: that… (laughing) that is exactly what happened.
JSchlatt: but you weren’t.
Y/N: but I wasn’t.
Ted: you’ve been in the… public eye since you were a child
Y/N: I mean, I’ve been making content since I was… eight? Nine? Around that age
Ted: what would you say is the most stressful part of content creation?
Y/N: (laughing) how many people have you asked that question?
Charlie: too many
JSchlatt: far too many
Y/N: well, umm… I think the most stressful thing, for me at least, is the work life balance. Like many youtubers, I primarily filmed in my bedroom, its where my pc was set up and everything. I used to stream every day; I was… I burnt myself out. I was doing all of that as a full-time student with a part time job. I have since graduated and I’m not exactly employed anymore so I have a lot of time now but even then, I try not to stream every day.
Ted: and I don’t know how much I’m allowed to talk about this, please let me know if this is a breach of any plans or anything, but your newest projects…
Y/N: oh! Um… yes? Yeah. I can talk about it.
Charlie: to what…
JSchlatt: to what extent?
Y/N: I mean, if you upload this on the same day, I can talk about all of it.
Ted: … we can do that
Y/N: great!
Charlie: so, for the people at home, what is the oh so secret project?
Y/N: songs. I’ve been getting into music I suppose.
JSchlatt: good songs?
Y/N: id like to think so. I’ve been working with James Marriott, he helped me with the producing and everything. This, umm, three song EP, I suppose, is a collaborative work. I came up with the basic meanings of all three songs and then we worked on the lyrics and the track together.
Ted: and the music video?
Y/N: (laughing) the music video was done by some guy I know, does silly videos on the barbie cinematic universe, and ate an entire edible nerd’s rope by himself.
Ted: sounds like a handsome man.
JSchlatt: Final question!
Charlie: (laughing) oh god!
JSchlatt: would you rather have unlimited bacon, but no more games, Or, games, unlimited games, and no games?
Y/N: oh.. um… can I phone a friend?
JSchlatt: Lando has already answered this question.
Y/N: ok… bacon makes me feel kind of ill… and if I didn’t have games I wouldn’t have a career.
JSchlatt: great!

The only thing I am able to think of as my eyes scatter across the room of popular faces is "the amount of talent in this room is enough to swallow me whole". I’m overwhelmed with anxiety and I can't seem to remember how I was ever able to suppress it. I'm finding it increasingly hard to hide behind my extrovert persona, the one that is a lie, a huge lie in fact.
I realized I had been lost in my head when the sound of loud clapping brought me back to the real world. I barely catch the very end of Hoseok's speech, something along the lines of "Thank you for supporting me", and "enjoy the food and music" then he gives a bow and walks down the stairs where he is immediately pulled into conversation. Oh, I can't even imagine the anxiety he must be feeling. I could simply stick to a corner and hide in the shadows, whereas he has to socialize with everyone out of obligation.
Socializing. For some reason I forgot that I'd have to do that. I've been able to avoid it thus-far having arrived minutes before the actual album started playing. Now, everywhere I looked someone was talking to someone else. I realized I couldn't just stand here alone forever. I examine the room for someone I know, even better someone I have interviewed because I'll take any familiarity I can at this point. This whole ordeal is making me question my job because how am I able to meet celebrities on the daily, and here I am stressing about having to socialize at a party.
I was too in my head again, so I didn't realize someone had been calling my name until I felt a few taps on my shoulder. When I turn around, I was met with no other than Jessi, thank god. We have met on more than one occasion, and she has a weird ability of making people extremely comfortable, something I am immensely thankful for right now.
"Yaz!" She pulls me into a hug. It actually does well to soothe me. "I didn't know you were coming."
"I didn't know either," I pulled back from the hug with a gentle smile. "Actually, I was kind of surprised."
"Why, are you and J-hope not close?" she questioned.
"I mean, I had him on the show and we got on really well. We've also messaged a lot, too." I know I sound hesitant speaking, as if I'm not sure of the words I am saying. It is kind of hard to believe that Hoseok would want a friendship with me of all people, let alone be close.
"Oh, he definitely adores you, we even talked about you once," she has a sparkle in her eye as she talks and for some reason, I feel obliged to believe her. "Also, he was one of the best episodes on your show by far."
She is right about that. It has been my most viewed interview by a pretty wide margin. Part of me knows it’s due to the fact that he is J-hope of BTS, obviously, but it was also such a good video. All my interviews follow a simple formula. I bring the guest on and we engage in whatever activity they enjoy, in Hoseok’s case dancing. It brings a different level of intimacy that you can’t get from simply sitting across from one another and reading questions from a card. The conversation always flows naturally, and it’s all so genuine. On top of that, even I can admit that Hoseok and I just clicked. Our personalities complimented each other well. So much that we even continued to develop our relationship through messaging, and now I am attending his album release party which is a very important step in his solo career. Maybe we are closer than I allowed myself to believe.
“Yeah, it was pretty great actually.” I could see her eyes light up at my slight self-indulgence. Maybe I should give myself more credit.
We both turn our heads at the call of Jessi’s name from across the room. She gives me another smile and hug and tells me that she’ll find me later. I am left alone again but it’s not as bad as before. The anxiety has decreased significantly, which made my apparent hunger more noticeable. Hoseok did say to enjoy the food so I might as well. The snack table was filled with delicious finger food. As I was reaching my hand to grab a bite of some expensive looking cheese on a toothpick someone called my name. I turned around to find none other than Hoseok’s bright smile.
“So, I see you made it!” He pulled me into a hug. Not the ‘barely touch you because this is a little uncomfortable hug”, but a “I feel like we’ve known each other for years hug’.
“Hoseok, you’re incredible. The album is amazing, the release party is amazing, your outfit is amazing!” We pulled away from the hug and I could see a feint blush on his cheeks hidden well in the dimly lit room. “I’m serious, you may be the coolest person I know.”
“Yahhh, you’re boosting my ego too much.” He said while smiling shyly.
“You also may be the humblest person I know so I actually don’t think that is possible.” He smiled at me again and I swear I saw a glimpse of the actual sun in him.
“Do you know anyone here?”
“A few people, mostly through the grapevine.” He could sense my hesitancy right away, I could tell.
“Come, I’ll introduce you to my friends.” He said as he gestured to the general direction behind him where his so-called friends were. Knowing him, his friends could be some ultra-famous idols that have better things to do than interacting with me. I could slowly feel the anxiety creep back up my spine, and my heartbeat slowly increased.
“I don’t really want to be a bother,” he looked down at me with squinted eyes and a tilted head. “I promise it’s okay, I like being alone and these appetizers are calling my name.”
He chuckled at me in disbelief, as if that was an insane thing to say in a room full of celebrities. I guess you could say a part of me is forgetting that they are just normal people too, so I shouldn’t be feeling this intimidated by them. At the same time, I’ve seen celebrities get starstruck over other celebrities, so they really aren’t just normal people and I am going to tell myself that my feelings are valid.
“C’mon, you’re never a bother. You’re my friend and I want my friends to meet you” he said reassuringly. I guess that answers my earlier internal debate. After 2 seconds of contemplation, I let myself believe him, and I signaled for him to lead the way. He lit up and tugged on my wrist so I could follow him.
I don’t know who I was expecting him to introduce me to, but for some reason his members stupidly did not come to mind. Three of the seven members of BTS were sitting on the stage together, and their heads all turned to Hoseok and I as we approached them. Despite all my inner turmoil, I take pride in my ability to pretend that I am confident and unfazed by everything. That is how I’ve done so well in my career while dealing with anxiety, but as the three idols studied us as we approached them, I could tell that mainting my persona would be more difficult than usual. I know them of course, because who doesn’t these days, but seeing them in person simply beats videos and pictures. They really were beautiful men.
“Yazmine this is Taehyung, Jimin and Jungkook. Guys this is Yazmine.” Hoseok introduced while gesturing to each of them.
“Hi guys its so great to meet you.” I said with a smile. Jungkook and Taehyung who were sitting raised themselves up to give me a bow as well as Jimin who was already standing as I shook my hands at them. “Oh! there’s no need for that we can be casual.”
“Sorry, it’s a habit,” Jimin said with a smile. “After all these years it feels kind of strange not to be formal.”
“That’s how I feel except opposite. Getting used to being formal was a challenge and I sometimes still forget the strict customs.” I explained.
“Sorry if this comes across as rude but you’re not Korean? You’re Korean is really good!” Taehyung questioned.
“It’s not rude at all! I am half Korean from my mom and my dad is middle eastern,” as I was explaining, someone summoned Hoseok over to them and he gave my arm a firm squeeze in parting as he nodded to his members insinuating his departure. “I was raised in the US till age 12 and I’ve been back and forth since then.” I explained as they nodded in understanding. It was endearing how intently they were listening to me, and for some reason I felt oddly at ease with the three. My eyes wandered over to Jungkook’s as I finished my explanation, and as they met he quicky looked away.
“Your interview with Hobi Hyung was amazing by the way,” Jimin said. In the moment I don’t think I even processed that Park Jimin watches my show, I’d have to do that later. “The idea is so new and exciting. I hope that you’ll invite me once I start my solo schedule.” There was a sly smirk on his face. I wondered if it would be inappropriate to tell him I would probably jump off a bus if he asked me to, but I decided to keep that to myself in the end.
“I’ll see what I could do.” I joked back. Out of the corner of my eye I saw someone new approaching us and I turned my head to find Seokjin. I was now surrounded by four members of the group and I am surprised I’ve held my composure for this long.
“Hello,” he says timidly with a subtle bow. “Sorry to interrupt, I just wanted to say bye to these three. I’m Jin.”
Just when I thought these men couldn’t get any better, he introduces himself as if I wouldn’t already know who he is. I gave a bow back and smiled at his humility, “I’m Yazmine, it’s nice to meet you.”
“Hey Jungkook, this must be exciting for you.” At the mention of the youngest members name, I turned to look at him and caught his wide eyes and small headshake towards Jin that I was clearly not meant to see as his eyes shifted to me. “He loves your videos. One time he made me watch three episodes of your trying new things series.”
“Hyung!” Jungkook cried out. Obviously I was not supposed to be filled in on this information, but my heart couldn’t help but beat a little faster at this new discovery.
“Oh, did he now?” I questioned with a smirk. Jungkook’s face twinged a subtle pink that was barely noticeable in the dimly lit room, but noticeable, nonetheless.
“Oh yeah, Jungkookie is always sending us clips from your videos,” Jimin teased. Taehyung started nodding his head enthusiastically and decided he also wanted to join in on teasing the youngest.
“You should have seen his reaction when he found out Hobi Hyung was making an appearance, he was so jeal-”
“Okay that’s enough.” Jungkook interrupted with an annoyed expression. Despite how much I was enjoying this, I also felt a little bad for him, and I’m sure he’s been at the center of their teasing all these years.
“Well, I really appreciate the support, and it means a lot coming from you especially.” I reassured him. He gave me a shy small in return.
“Well it was nice to meet you Yazmine, I am sure we’ll run into each other again,” Jin said with a warm smile. “Before I leave Hobi wants a picture with all of us.” He said while gesturing to the other members. They all nodded in agreement.
As they all turned to follow Jin, Jimin turned to me and nudged my arm with his. “Don’t go too far, we’ll be back soon.”
“I’ll be here.” I reassured. I definitely wasn’t comfortable enough to talk with anyone else here, and their welcoming energy was definitely more than enough for me. Jimin and Taehyung followed Jin, while I noticed Jungkook lingering a bit. I could tell he had something on his mind that he wanted to say.
“Isn’t it a bit early for Jin to be leaving?” I questioned. This was my best attempt at making him comfortable enough to tell me what was on his mind.
“This isn’t really Jin Hyungs scene, he doesn’t really know many people and he gets nervous meeting them too.” Jungkook explained. I almost did not catch the end of what he was saying because I was too distracted by his eyes. They really do sparkle just like everyone says.
“Wow, if that’s how Jin feels then I really am hopeless.” I said in shock. If a literal bts member was having trouble socializing, I was doomed.
“Not completely hopeless, you have us now.” He said with the most endearing smile I have ever seen. There was also something about how he said “You have us now”, as if he was insinuating that I would be in their lives longer than just a casual conversation at a party. I know it’s probably my delusion speaking, but it’s a nice thought to comfort me. “By the way I really do enjoy your videos a lot. I guess it’s kinda embarrassingly obvious now that I am a fan.” He said with a little more confidence while referring to the teasing from his Hyungs.
“If it makes you feel better, I have 3 older brothers, so I know how it feels. Also, I am slightly embarrassed because of how many stupid things you’ve probably seen me do. It’s actually all coming back now.” I laughed. I started internally second guessing every decision I made for my videos because Jeon fucking Jungkook watches them, and I pray that he has not seen the bird calling video.
“What, like the bird calling video?” He says with a chuckle. This is not happening right now.
“I am actually going to ignore what you just said for mental health reasons.” He lets out a boyish laugh at that and I swear I’ve never heard something more adorable in my life. I would honestly embarrass myself 100 times over if it meant that I could make him laugh.
We both turn our heads at the call of his name and see the members waving him over for the pictures.
“I’m sorry I don’t want to leave you alone…” He says hesitantly.
“No, don’t worry about it,” I said. “I’ll just be here trying not to embarrass myself.”
“I won’t take long so we can be embarrassing together.” He said in a teasing tone. My eyes couldn’t help but widen. I’m either crazy, or he just flirted with me. I could hear his giggle as he turned to walk away while I stood there stunned. The butterflies in my stomach were going crazy as I watched him join the others. Seeing them interact with each other was so special. They looked so happy and comfortable. It was hard not to be slightly envious of their relationship. I can’t remember the last time I had a connection like that with someone, and I could tell it was rare. My eyes naturally wander over to Jungkook as he wrapped his arm around Hoseok. I could see his eyes glistening even from here with joy and contempt. His eyes meet mine and I find myself unable to look away even though I know I’ve been caught staring. His eyes crinkle at the corners as we look at each other, waiting to see who will break eye contact first. My gaze wanders across his nose and cheeks as my face heats up. I force my eyes to meet his one final time and I turn away with a light feeling looming over me.

All right let's continue my original zelda story. Content warning for death and injury.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 (Other posts are tagged #cotf)
Today we get to the midpoint of the game. You know how the formula for Zelda is usually "in order to get The Big Thing, get These Smaller Things, then once you get that Big Thing (sometimes the Master Sword) then go get more Small Things for the second Big Thing" and then fight the final boss? Oversimplifying it but yeah. One more round of dungeons after this and then the final fight.
So after the first round of dungeons (And plenty of development!) we head to get the Master Sword for reasons yet undefined. Ganon sent a minion in the form of a giant snake to guard the sword and keep it out of the heroes' hands, so that's who they have to fight to get the sword.
OH this is irrelevant to the current events but I forgot to explain their group dynamics. Working idea is that Link is the main controllable character and the other two (Shei and Stella) swap out to solve puzzles/do certain actions/story stuff etc. Because it's really freaking difficult to play a game where an npc follows you around all the time, Link carries Stella in a backpack (like just as a bag of bones) and in combat situations (where id imagine npc following would be the most tense) Shei gets all magicky and starts glowing and floating. Kinda like Zelda in Age of Calamity.
.....Except, Shei doesn't have the best handle on his goddess powers, so he can't really control where he moves very well. In order to remedy this, Link has to lasso him and tow him around like the Triforce of Wisdom a balloon. Actually looking that over again it still seems kinda annoying so maybe that's an event specific thing instead of being present in every combat situation........hmm im rambling BUT the point is both Shei and Stella are present and active in fights.
SO back to the story they fight big evil snake and like close to the end SOMETHING happens (gonna shoot off ideas because im not sure what it should be yet) that gets Shei bitten by the evil snake. (Like. not the actual snake itself that one's huge like it splits into a bunch of smaller ones or spawns a bunch of little snakes) Some sort of event happens during the fight that should make that unavoidable but not feel like a punishment to the player, if that makes any sense? Like I don't want it to feel like you didn't beat the boss fast enough/well enough but I also don't want it to feel like it comes out of left field. I guess I want it to feel like it had to happen and there was nothing you could do?? (Like idk the floor gives out and trips Shei or at the end of one damage pattern it flies to the side and pins him down for a moment or something like that)
ANYWAY that was a lot of rambling obscuring a very important event SO-
You do manage to defeat the boss and reach the Master Sword, but just as Link pulls it Shei goes white and crumples (alternatively: gets a nosebleed), revealing the injury he sustained during the battle.
Impa, who accompanied them because she guided them to the Master Sword (Impa pops in and out of the action bc she has stuff to do elsewhere, also known as she shows up when its convenient), uses her Monocle of Truth (oh yeah I forgot to say she had that its like the lens of truth thats why shes wearing a monocle in the picrews) and determines that the venom of the snake is full of evil power and has no antidote.
They all panic. Shei doesn't want to die. He's not ready to accept any sort of future (throughout the story so far I want to imply that he's living in the present and doesn't like to think about what might happen in the future), especially not one where he dies.
✨Circumstances✨ come up that prevent them from leaving the area (monster resurgence, rubble blocking the exit, etc.), so they can't get help (still reworking those reasons). They can move him to a different clearing (this is a forest temple kind of place) where the sun is shining, the birds are singing, the wind is blowing, and it's all a contrast to what's happening.
Eventually they figure out all they can do is stay with him (😭 forgive me im still trying to give this moment the emotion it deserves and its Not Quite There yet so this is all you get sorry-). Remember this picture that I posted a while back? @acheronspride described it as cold, and that's exactly the vibe I'm going for.
So they sit around a tree and hold each other as the venom runs its course. It takes a long time (several hours) and during that time he gets increasingly dizzy/disoriented/sick/etc. (I wanted to avoid the "dying quickly but still has enough time to say important things" and "important things are said right before dying" tropes).
That's relevant because he does have something important to say. Remember the goddess-blood essence? If he dies as the last descendant of Hylia, her power and the legacy of every Princess Zelda will be lost forever. So he draws it out of himself, but he's not strong enough to hold onto it. The GBE splits into six pieces and scatters, and the piece of it that he DOES hold on to he bestows to Stella.
I think you can guess the reason for that! Sorry for cutting it off so soon, but I wanted to delay the next portion for later. Tell me what you think?
#cotf#shei#yes he dies#and he doesn't come back#hes dead dead#from the moment i brought his character into being I planned for him to die#i definitely dropped some pretty substantial hints that he dies#like i think i actually said it at one point#huh#oh well#sorry i think the flow of the post kinda got messed up at the end but its there! i made it! and i can always elaborate later when its easie#long post#tw death#tw snakebite#tw snake#tw injury#Legacy of a Millennia

Imaginary (Jumin x MC)
Chapter one here!
(Also to explain something! Both Bada and Eun are random characters I made up, I like to think that the island was already inhabited by some people, and that Jumin’s father bought part of it, in Saeran’s Normal End, he and MC talk about how the locals are all nice and stuff, so I wanted to add something like this here :D, OH AND! These are the sort of edited chapters, I will post the fully edited ones in AO3!)
AND feedback is greatly appreciated! Sorry if this one was kinda short! Next chapter we WILL get some cute kiddo Jumin, I promise :P
Chapter 2
.
.
.
In the end you weren’t able to find the ghost. That week your mother had been leaving you with heavy amounts of homework, and you hadn’t been able to go outside since by the time you finished it was always too dark, and your mother was home. You were also tired from the amount of history dates and math formulas you had to learn. Your mother wasn’t going to let you fall behind all of your classmates, but she also took it a bit too far and made you study things that even they hadn’t even seen yet.
Thus, your search for the ghost was cancelled. You weren’t able to see Bada and Eun either, which sucked since their food was so delicious last time, and you really wanted some more. In the meantime though, you spent your days reading about ghosts, and how to capture them or see them.
You wanted so badly to find the ghost! But you didn’t have the time. The thing that made it worse was that you were sure there was someone there, you always saw a small shadow by the windows, but as soon as you tried to get closer, it disappeared.
One night, you laid in your bed, unable to sleep and thinking about the ghost. It was about 11pm, your mother was already sleeping and you were sure everyone on the island was too. It made you feel weird, thinking that maybe you were the only one awake. Still, you decided to do something.
Soemthing reckless.
Slowly, very, very slowly, you got out of your bed and put on some shoes that you had in your closet. Then, you grabbed your favorite sweater, and gently opened the sliding door in your room, that led to a little porch. You tiptoed and went down the stairs, quickly running towards the enormous mansion. It was way closer than you had actually thought, and you saw a fence that probably led to the backyard. The fence was tall, no way you could’ve climbed that thing.
But that wasn’t going to stop you.
Somehow you managed to get on top of the fence. It was pretty tall, but you found that if you climbed a tree, and then jumped off from there to the fence, maybe it could work.
It- it didn’t.
Well it did, but you landed on your face and you tried your best to hold back a cry. Still, not wanting to give up, you slowly stood up and walked into the garden.
You were trembling, afraid of the dark, and you were about to reach for your flashlight when you realized...that you hadn’t brought your flashlight.
Welp, you’re dead now, I guess.
You mentally slapped yourself and gulped. There was no one around, and who knows when an opportunity like this might come again? But at the same time, it was way too dark, and you were going to be looking for ghosts. That was way too scary, especially without a flashlight. Then, an idea popped into your head. How about, you go running to your house, quickly grab the flashlight and then come back? You were pretty fast, and you were sure the ghosts couldn’t have noticed your presence yet.
You quickly turned around to go, open the fence door and race to your home, when you heard some footsteps behind you. And you froze.
“Who are you?” A voice said. It sounded like it belonged to a boy, but you didn’t want to find out if that was true or not, and you didn’t even turn around as you let out a small scream. You quickly ran towards the door, struggling a bit to open it.
Fuck it was stuck.
You pushed and pushed, the sound of footsteps coming closer towards you, and a different deeper voice coming from inside the house. Finally, the door bulged and opened, and you took your chance to run away. You didn’t stop until you were safe, under your covers and with all your plushies surrounding you.
That was scary as fuck.
You weren’t able to sleep that night.
When your mother woke you up at 6am, you stared up groggily at her, and she scolded you about staying up late, and that no matter how tired you were, she wanted to see all your work done when she came home.
You of course, decided to leave at lunch time to go and talk with Eun and Bada. You hadn’t seen them in a while and you were actually pretty hungry, the only thing that your mother had left you was another container filled with spaghetti and you were honestly tired of eating it for both lunch and dinner four days in a row.
So, you took your leave and followed the little path towards the village, this time stopping to admire the whole place. The village was up on some mountains, so you were able to see the sea from up above. You could see some men in boats, carrying heavy bags filled with fish, and women with scuba diving equipment coming out of the water. Then, when you looked up towards the other mountain, you saw what looked like a temple. It was red and huge, and you made a mental note to ask both Eun and Bada about it.
Finally, you made it to their house, and you were about to knock on the door, when Bada suddenly opened it.
She was going to say something when she looked down at you and you gave her a big smile.
“Well look who’s back! If it isn’t our little explorer. Found anything interesting these past few days?” She asked, as she motioned for you to come inside. You replied to Bada that, yes you had actually found some very interesting things, but before she could reply Eun came out from the shower, her hair dripping wet, and singing some really catchy song in another language. Then she stopped, looked at you and squealed, running over and giving you a tight hug.
“Hey Y/N! How’s your little ghost adventure going? Come come, we were about to have some lunch, you came at the perfect time! Oh sir here! And tell me everything about it, I don’t want you to skip over any detail.” She gently shoved you into a chair and then gave you a plate full of some Korean dish you didn’t really know the name of, but looked absolutely delicious.
As the two women sat down in front of you, you explained your adventure with the ghost yesterday.
“There was really someone there! He even talked to me!” You said.
Eun raised and eyebrow and gave you a quizzical smile. “Really? Do you have any proof?”
You quickly stopped and became quiet. Dammit!
“I...I don’t have any yet! But, there really was someone there! Seriously! I just...I forgot to bring my camera....” you confessed.
“Well there you go! You need evidence if you want to convince us you know?”
“You mean convince you. I believe in ghost and I think it’s probable that Y/N saw one.” Badda said, as she glared at Eun.
“Ah Bada seriously! Listen kiddo, I will admit that ghosts are real if I actually get to see one. If you manage to give me evidence I’ll believe you, but for now you don’t have any proof.”
“I will get some! You’ll see!” You confidently said.
The rest of the evening passed by quickly, as Bada explained about the temple up in the mountain. Appears you it was a temple that was able to grant each person one wish.
After wards you thanked them for the food and then you quickly looked at your watch and let out a little yelp. “Oops! I have to go now! Thank you for the food, it was great!”
“Wait Y/N, what about my book? Have you-”
“BYE BADA!” You quickly said and left the house in a hurry before Bada could finish her sentence.
You could hear her grumbling and Eun laughing from the other side of the door and you smiled.
You were going to get that evidence!
You quickly went home, and then started working on your homework.
......
That day, as you stared at your blank notebook while sitting on your desk, you went through the events that had happened last night.
There was certainly a ghost there, maybe even two, since you had heard two people talking. The ghost knew you were already there though, and that would make things hard. So you decided to make up a plan to show Eun and Bada that you were telling the truth. You quickly grabbed your pencil and took off a blank page from your notebook.
Ghost hunting plan:
You wrote, and then you bit the end of your pencil as you thought about what to do.
First of all, you had to bring a flashlight. That was one of the things that was the most important. You weren’t going to deal with two ghosts, in the dark.
Second, you had to bring your camera. That was on the top of the priority list too, since you did need it to take a picture of the ghost.
Still...you were pretty shaken up from yesterday and you didn’t want to be completely alone.
What if you brought one of your favorite toys? No that would make the whole process of climbing the fence harder....and if you were to bring something else, it definetly had to be that book about ghosts. Somewhere in there had to be some sort of ritual or spell or something, that would protect you from ghosts. So you decided to bring it!
And hell, to do it that same night!
Satisfied with your plan, and now a bit more confident with everything, you started doing the homework you mother had left you. Normally you would leave it and do it at the last moment, but today you were inspired and you had to have everything ready for the ghost hunting trip!
When your mother came home she immediatly went to bed, taking your work and locking her door. You then did your normal bedtime routine, washing the dishes, brushing your teeth and taking a warm shower. But then, instead of going to sleep, you sat on your bed with the book in your hands, and you counted down till your mother was asleep.
It was about 10pm, you could hear your mother snoring al the way from her room, and you slowly stood up and grabbed your sweater, some sneakers, the flashlight, the camera and the book. Of course you couldn’t hold everything at once, so the book was in a tiny backpack, and the camera was hanging from your neck. Alright! You were now ready!
Slowly, you opened the sliding doors, and tiptoed out of the porch. You turned on your flashlight and began walking towards the mansion, your camera ready. The lens cap protector thing, was off, and you had night vision on, so you were pretty good!
You finally made it towards the fence, and managed to climb it, this time without falling flat on your face. You gave a little victory dance as you looked around the garden.
It was...really beautiful.
The garden was filled with all kinds of flowers, purple, yellow, red, blue, and there were the bushes you had always heard about! One was in the shape of an elephant, the other one was in the shape of a horse and on and on. In the center of the garden, there was a huge fountain, that was turned off at the moment, which was a bit disappointing. There was also a stone path, that went all around the garden and then probably led somewhere inside the house.
You stood there for a bit, admiring the view. Yesterday was so dark, and you were so scared that you hadn’t been able to see anything. But tonight the moon was out, shining brightly and illuminating everything in front of you. It was beautiful.
Then, you heard some footsteps, and you quickly hid behind a bush. That’s right, you were here looking for a ghost, not to gape at that wonderful garden!
Dammit Y/N, pull yourself together! You thought, as you tried to figure out where the footsteps were coming from. You cowered a bit as they came closer and closer, almost in front of you. You slowly peeked from behind the bush, and saw a silhouette.
A boys silhouette to be more precise. He looked to be around your age, and he was wearing blue stripped pijamas, his hair all messy on top of his head. It was clear he had just woken up, and was looking for something...or for someone.
You.
Drat! You thought. The ghost of the little boy already knew you were going to come back again! Maybe you should have waited a few days before coming back, but you were just so impatient.
Anyway, you had to make up a plan. You had left the fence door open in case you needed to make an impromptu escape, and you gave yourself a pat in the back for thinking that far ahead. What you had to do now, was to take a picture of the ghost. Slowly, very, very slowly you raised your camera to get a picture of the ghost.
He had his back to you, the moonlight shining behind him, giving him a very paranormal aura. Still, for some reason the lense wouldn’t focus, so you decided to move forward a bit to get a better look. Sadly, you miscalculated and you accidentally stepped on a dry leaf, making the ghost turn around in your direction, his face filled with worry but at the same time, confidence.
Then you stopped.
Damn he was cute.
You hadn’t seen his face till now, and you were taken aback by it. He was definetly a very good looking boy, one the girls in your class might go all crazy about. Never in your life had you felt something like you were feeling now. Could it be....love at first sight?
No! He’s a ghost, I can’t fall in love with a ghost, how would that even work?! You scolded yourself. Still, you didn’t stop your staring at the boy. Thankfully he hadn’t seemed to notice you were there, and before you could even think about it, you pressed the camera button and a loud CLICK was heard through the bushes.
And then a bright light came on.
You forgot to turn off the flash.
The boy let out a surprised gasp, and called out, but before he could once again catch you, you quickly got up and ran away from the place. You heard the footsteps following behind you, but you were faster and a few minutes later you didn’t hear anything else, and you slowed your pace.
That was close.
You triumphantly smiled as you looked through the pictures on your camera. Granted they weren’t super high quality, but you could make out the boys silhouette.
Hehe, now to become a millionaire! You celebrated. You sneaked back into your room and placed your camera and flashlight on your desk. Then you were going to grab your paranormal book from your backpack when...you didn’t find anything.
What?
You turned your backpack upside down and staked it as hard as possible, but still nothing would come out.
Bada’s book.
Oh no.
Oh no.
If Bada found out you lost her book, you wouldn’t be able to have lunch at her home ever again! And you would loose the only...friends (?) you had in this island. You couldn’t allow that! You always had to return what you borrowed, that was one thing your mother would always say, and this time she was right! After all, Bada lent you soemthing really important to her, and you couldn’t bear to think about coming back to her home empty handed.
Still...you weren’t going to go back into the house. It was way to dark now, you were sleepy and you were sure the ghost was porbably waiting in the garden, somewhere.
What to do, what to do? You asked yourself as you put on your pijamas and laid in bed.
It must have fallen off somewhere along the way, you thought, so maybe you wouldn’t have to go into the garden after all.
Then you got it!
What if, tomorrow morning you went into the garden? There weren’t going to be any ghosts since it was daytime, you reasoned, and it would be way easier to find the book. After all, there would be no one around the mansion to scold you, or to tell you to leave! It was the perfect plan!
You tucked yourself into bed and looked up confidently at the ceiling. You were going to get that book!

Leverage 01:03 The Two Horse Job
ok so this has been sitting in my drafts bc right after i watched it i found out about the Correct Order of season one. And a lot of my notes here are just yelling about how wild it is that this stuff happened in EPISODE THREE but it turns out this was not SUPPOSED to be episode three, it was supposed to be later in the season and that makes wayyyyyy more sense. but tbh i don’t have the motivation to redo my notes so here they are in all their unedited and incorrect glory.
YEAH STERLING!
omg I very much understand why even this early on nate is like “so we get you the money, right?” this is actually the first time it hasn’t BEEN about money, he’s starting to think he’s got this DOWN already and then he gets hit with “NOPE this is emotional” and he’s like “What I am too hungover to figure out how to give you catharsis right now.” OMG look how wide his eyes get when he then gets hit with the Eliot’s Past bomb one sentence later. lmao at least then nate gets to hit eliot back with that biblical “you meant you knew the family.”
lollll alan foss is that guy from suits i love him in a weird way.
parker’s stripy outfit w leg garter card swipey thing is so cute!
“Well why doesn’t he work for me?” “Cause I work for him” when nate comes in -- weirdly similar energy to sophie’s “well i’m with HIM” gesture in the toy job
nate’s character` is cracking me up lmao a good example of jusst being enough of an asshole to egg the guy on even when the mark is a huge ass too
also heckin cute how they hand nate cards so he can win.
ohhhh we’re shaking it up TWICE -- first it’s not abt the money, then enter sterling. so we really only get one “formula” episode before we add some plot -- just to mess with nate and to make sure the audience doesn’t get too comfortable in assumign they know what’s gonna happen either
you know why nate’s the main character besides parker? because he’s the US. te honest man is the audience so every time nate goes “wait that’s not how this was supposed to work” the audience is right there with him. he’s the point of view character, our way in. oh THREE -- one ,it’s personal for eliot, two, it’s about the horses not the money, three, STERLING.
so what sterling actually THINKS at first is: Nate is there trying to prove Foss did it so that HE can prove himself to IYS and get the job back. So even here Sterling doesn’t necessarily think they’re enemies, just RIVALS When Sophie shows he just thinks shes’s another wrench in the works, he doesn’t necessarily connect her w nate yet?
I like that sterling points out nate plays “complicated little games” whereas nate was like “i just conned ppl it’s part of being an insurance investigator” like that was normal but it’s NOT normal nate’s just Like That.
My wife: There is only one man I might accept in that hat and his name is james buffett.
Hey they’re split up Parker-Hardison and Eliot-Nate again. It’s a thing! To build the relationships.
lol i forgot abt the part where it’s like WHOOPS Eliot’s a bottom. (she won’t let him kiss her but she’ll push him up against the stable and kiss him)
wait the faberge egg line is she implying she’s pretended to be a ROMANOV heir
clarify yeah nate for sure got fired.
it’s not till thirty minutes in he figures out nate’s a criminal and THEN he thinks nate’s after money.
so when eliot and nate and sophie are talking about it theyre talking like all their personal connections are a liability but then eliot goes to parker and says “I” need you to do this and that’s important and good and helps get stuff done.
Parker: “Horses are a lot less murderous than I originally thought” My wife: ” “It’s me!”
OOH eliot is PISSED cause foss didn’t even look at the horse which is of course why the whole scam works cause foss doesn’t LOOK at the horse doesn’t CARE abt the horse they all knwo that
“Glad u found a family” EPISODE FUCKING THREE
it’s not till the END of the episode that sterling is starting to get really pissy and bitter about it bc he’s figured out more or less what nate’s game is.

Episode 13! I don’t have all that much to say about it. But there were three things in particular I really liked!
Sorato moments! It may be small (I mean, they’re kids and they’ve known each other for like a day), but no one will be able to say Sora and Yamato didn’t have any development in this season!
Sora Getting Shit Done! She’s as cool as Yamato. Scratch that, she’s cooler than Yamato. She’s honest and compassionate. She’s brave like Taichi, values her friends as much as Yamato, AND she can get along with both of them. Bahahaha.
SO MANY adorable Jou&Gomamon moments this episode. Like seriously. SO MANY.
I’ll just tack some here:
More below!
So our two groups are still separated! Jumping ahead, but next week we’ll see MegaKabuterimon, and that rounds out two episodes for each group. But that still leaves Zudomon’s appearance. Just a hunch, but my guess is we’ll see him the episode after which will be the reunion episode too. If not, I suppose the groups are gonna stay separated longer, but this is my guess.
So, once again, our kids have been in this world for Not Very Long At All. It doesn’t seem like they’ve had to stop and sleep so far, though they’ve eaten a bit. Probably it’s still the same day in digital world time o.o It’s completely plausible that they’ve been sleeping and we’re just not being told about it though. This is a kids show, next week Koushirou could be like “we’ve been walking for a week!” and we’ll just have to roll with it lol. But until that happens, I’m going with it’s been about a day and almost everyone’s easily got two evolutions under their belt. Evolving is much easier in this season - Taichi and Yamato even got a Jogress already - so it’s definitely past time to throw out old concepts of how evolving work. The kids clearly have Crests, but they don’t know what they are, which means that’s a thing we’ll be seeing in the future. In spite of that, they can evolve to higher levels. So, maybe something else is in store for them when the Crests become important. Very interesting.
We are back with the trio who’s got their shit slightly more together. Except for Jou’s stomach. Was really amused by Yamato using binoculars. I assume Sora brought them. I’m so used to Taichi’s telescope, but it only makes sense that each group should have some working gear!
Also par for the course, Yamato looking at what’s ahead while Jou’s being sick and Sora’s in between helping them both :P
They find this thing. The hive of brainwashed mecha soldier bees. The person who wrote this episode has definitely had a bad run in with suzumebachi.
As they try to escape, Jou immediately falls off Birdramon.
Me: “Oh no! Someone go help him!”
Gomamon:
Me: “NO NOT YOU”
Like I know they’re partners... but Gomamon doesn’t even have hands. xD All he can do (and all he does do!) is fall together. They’re partners so it’s not surprising, but still... Wheeeeeee!
Honestly though it is just so adorable to me how useless Jou is and how hard Gomamon tries for him... even though Gomamon has a lot more excuse for being useless. I mean, he’s made for a water habitat.
Gabumon: “Jou’s with Gomamon, so he should be okay...”
-___- You know nothing, Jon Snowmon. You know nothing about how much trouble Jou can get himself in
See!?!?!?!??!?! DOES THIS LOOK LIKE THEY’RE OKAY TO YOU, GABUMON??? EAT YOUR WORDS!!!
This is what happens when you try to too hard to make a bee cute. So overdesigned xP It’s like hitting me on the head saying “I’M CUTE, LOOK AT ME!! I’M CUTE!!!” like chill dude, it’s ok. just chill
I guess it works on Sora though, she’s as concerned for this cutie pie as she is for Jou... maybe more.
We make a quick switch to group number 2 who are finally living up to my expectations for how nuts they are. Koushirou’s connection is turbulent, to use the lingo Tumblr always pisses me off with!
Mimi offers to help. “My grandpa can get you a better one!” She... she tries.
Taichi offers to help too. “Times like this you just gotta whack it!” Koushirou looks appropriately terrorized.
I’m so relieved to know Taichi and Mimi are both still batshit.
Yamato and Sora hatch a plan to save Jou by getting themselves captured too. Honestly the show doesn’t spend enough time on the cool stuff like hatching this plan! It just happens! It def got me thinking how brave and cooperative Sora is. Like, we already know Yamato is cool, and he has more experience in the digital world than the others. But Sora just rolls with it. She’s not freaking out, she’s thinking things through, and she can help strategize. 99 Adventure was like “Girls don’t need to do things like pedal swan boats or take watch at night!” This ones like “Girls can definitely do those things! As long as they are pink when they do them!”
Jou and Gomamon arrive in the hive where they are immediately separated... and Jou is thrown out with the trash. BAHAHAHA. GEEZ this show will not ease up on Jou!!
by the way... Gabumon... ARE YOU EATING YOUR WORDS YET!?!?
Sora and Yamato make it inside and hitch a ride on Garurumon...
... They both jump like this when they need to get off so Garurumon can evolve. With jumping style like that, Sorato is a ship made n heaven.
Fuck everything I said about Gomamon working best in his water habitat, IT WAS ALL A LIE. First swimming through sand, now this. Jou has LITERALLY NO EXCUSE for being as useless as he is anymore
also Wolverfish is back, I am some day going to make one of those old geocities shrine sites just for Wolverfish
They are surrounded on all sides though, so what should we do? “Go down.” Yamato, DID YOU FORGET WE ARE IN THE AIR.
Once again Sora is A-OK with all of this! Jou’s the only one having a normal human reaction to A HOLE OPENING IN THE FLOOR OF AN AIRBORNE VESSEL
Gomamon T____T Jou would be mince meat without you
It turns out that Yamato’s shitty plan wasn’t so shitty after all, because either he and Sora talked about what they’d have to do if the couldn’t stay inside the hive, or Sora is psychic. Or just that good at cleaning up after hot-headed men. Anyway yeah Birdramon to the rescue.
For a hot second there it looked like Yamato was going to be like “We don’t have time to save those Digimon” again. Which, I thought we worked through last time, so I was confused. BUT it turns out he only wanted Sora to know he’s got her number. He’s figured out she’s not the type who can turn her back when someone needs help, even if she’s got her own priorities to think about. Sora’s selfless. Yamato clues into that. AND HE TOTALLY SUPPORTS HER <3
Urrrk can Yamato do anything that isn’t Cool
I just love the way he holds them.
Sora faces off with the hive... who’s blast causes a volcanic eruption or something!
Birdramon fights back!
It’s not very effective!!!
Now as much as this is supposedly a Sora episode... she’s had some cool moments but it doesn’t feel like Her Episode as much as last week felt like Mimi’s ep, or the weeks before felt like they belonged to Taichi and Yamato. So actually, that makes it strike number two for Sora, although this episode is definitely better than episode four. It’s not fair. I’m just glad we got some new stuff for her this time, but the writers seem so determined to make her the “good girl” that they forgot character development needs to involve some stakes. So, in place of that, they just do another montage.
First Sora reflects on how useless Jou is.
Then she reflects on how hot Yamato looks when he’s totally helpless.
Then she thinks about how the two of them remind her of pitiful baby bees.
The result... Garudamon!!! Always my favorite Ultimate evolution.
It’s a laaaaaaaser battle!!!!
Yamato’s like “Holy crap I’ve got to get with this girl”
We then set up the intro for next week’s episode, with Koushirou’s computer starting to work again, though not completely. I want it to not work at ALL so Koushirou can be like “i’m no longer useful to my friends, woe is me!” and his friends can be all “Koushirou you’re my best pal no matter what!” and then he saves the day using his noggin. If it was good enough for Mimi’s grandpa it’s good enough for you.
I’m also amused to learn that in spite of apparently selling computers, Mimi’s grandpa too is an advocate of hitting them to make them work.
Agumon mimicking every adorable thing Taichi does is adorableness overload.
Taichi once again offers to smack the computer, like the Taichi of my childhood. However, he claims he’s joking. He’s a 21st century kid after all.
Agumon tells him hitting the computer will hurt his hand, so he should let Agumon do it instead T___T omg that’s the cutest thing EVER I’d give this episode ten stars for this moment alone
but ignoring adorable Taichi/Agumon and Jou/Gomamon moments, I’ll give this episode a 6.5/10. It was almost there! It really needed more Sora though! You know, the spotlight character of the week??
I just don’t feel her as convincingly as the others... which is in part intentional, I think, because that’s Sora. She doesn’t talk about her own feelings so much, she’s private, but she cares very deeply about those around her. I absolutely am with that, but I think that’s really challenging to write, and it wouldn’t bother me so much if we were getting more development in small ways for all the kids all the time. Instead the primary way is these spotlight episodes. We had them in 99 Adventure too, but there was more dialogue between the kids. Watching this episode, I had a thought like “This reminds me of a formulaic Pokemon episode.” As in, there’s someone to rescue, we rescue them, it has little to no consequence for us on a personal level and next week we won’t even mention it happened. At least this episode, they did mention Neemon’s group, to show how this is a pattern for Sora. I’m gonna cross my fingers that means Sora’s going to come out big in the future, we just gotta believe in her and wait. That being said, I’m not trying to be negative, I am also happy that we got these bits for her at all, and especially that we got it confirmed that Yamato sees through her as much as she sees through him!
Next week’s preview...
Kabuterimon: koushirou, you are helpless without your computer, never forget that!
... x’D not
Totally stoked for a Koushirou episode. I hope it kicks butt. Even if it doesn’t, we still get a good helping of my boy Koushirou. <3

My love for you is an ocean // Hannibal x Lilith x Will // thunderstorm comfort.
Summary: It’s storming so hard outside that in your twenty years in this world you have never heard thunder that loud. You long to listen to the rain through an open window but the thunder is too loud. You are scared of storms and though Hannibal finds the scent of you to be delicious in this state, he finds that he much prefers you comfortable within yourself. The scent of you then is sweeter.
Written for @jokersspookyhyena. Darling, you know everything I want to say to you, but the most important of all of these things is that I love you. Please don’t ever doubt or forget that for even a moment. 💜💚
Source for the info. about storms
Word count: 1, 637.
You had always appreciated the use of pathetic fallacy in literature, but today was life imitating art in the worst of ways, for the storm which was raging within you was also raging outside.
Rain was battering against the window with such ferocity that you half wondered if the glass wasn’t going to shatter. The mirrors within your soul certainly had. The thunder boomed across the sky so loud that you had been rendered unable to sleep and even Hannibal, completely unfased was he by natural phenomenons such as a storm, had been impressed; his head tilted up and to one side towards the ceiling so that he could better hear. His nostrils had flared slightly as he had inhaled, and all the warning you had had this morning was, “It is to be a rough one, darling. Stay by me today.”
As it would turn out, the warning was to be the best thing which Hannibal could have said to you, for Hannibal provided you protection not just from Mother Nature’s warring outside, but also from the storm which was within you, too.
Protective was the lion over his hyena.
All too knowing was Hannibal about your fondness for Will and so once Hannibal had warned you to prepare for a nerve-wracking and scary day, he had phoned Will. The man in question had been on Hannibal’s doorstep in ninety minutes from the phone call. It took an hour to drive from his house to Hannibal’s own, which meant that Will had gotten ready as soon as Hannibal had hung up the phone. You were important to the two men and though they didn’t often verbalise the significance of your presence in their lives, which had begun to merge and blur together, they showed it to you in the smallest of ways, though frequent were the occurrences. Their love languages were strange to all but themselves but you had learned to look and to listen, and you had found upon achieving fluency in their languages that the two men were loud in their love for you.
The day was beginning to age and noon ticked into the early afternoon and still did the storm rage on. The outside world was dark and stormy, the weather unrelenting and the thunder didn’t stop being scary for you. Every time it boomed across the sky, every time lightning illuminated the dark expanse above your heads, you almost jumped out of your skin. For their parts did neither man leave the room at the same time, one of them was always with you. Tales of Thor playing with Mjolnir, relayed to you by Will, failed to comfort you, as did a purely scientific explanation from your darling Hannibal of how and why thunder and lightning respectively occurred. Even still, the two men did their best to keep you grounded and to keep you distracted, and when the thunder ripped across the sky, making you jump so badly that you almost dropped your Monster, which was poured into a large wine glass, they knew that they had to get you to a safe room. In drinking Monster from a wine glass, you were in equal parts gently making fun of Hannibal for his strong hold on tradition and on proper etiquette and doing it because you wanted him to approve. Will, for his part, had barked laughter at the incredulous look on Hannibal’s face when he had smelt the, in his words, “overpowering chemical formula” which you were drinking from one of his most expensive crystal wine glasses.
It had been thundering since four in the morning and you were tired of the weather in more ways than one. Though Hannibal’s home was stable, still did the storm cause the building to shake and you longed for your home. It was safe, familiar, comforting... but the safe cage of Hannibal’s warm, strong embrace was infinitely more so. Currently were the three of you in Hannibal’s study, the fire roaring merrily in the lit fireplace. The wood cracked and popped and it added a relaxing ambience; a stark contrast to the roaring of the outside elements. You were safe here, physically and emotionally, and no harm would befall you so long as you stayed close to your lion and to your mongoose. As the snakes slithered by the house did the two beasts stay by you; they bared their teeth, though they made no noise, and they protected you from all who sought to do you harm.
On this day, the enemy was the storm. The weapon of choice was their love for you, combined for a stronger, longer lasting affect, and your very presence kept their weapon locked and loaded.
The soft orange glow cast by the fire was lost in the harsh artificial light of the lamps which were dotted around the study; so dark was it outside despite it being the middle of the day, and you were sat in between your men. As the thunder shook the building, you made a noise of protest and Hannibal’s large, warm hands clasped either side of your head. You felt him move on the plush sofa so that he could rest the corner of his jaw on the crown of your head. Will gazed at the two of you with a single dark brow raised, his cerulean eyes taking everything in. He heard everything which you and Hannibal said, but he listened to that which you did not, and this was a subtle but important distinction.
“It is all right, Lilith. The storm may be directly overhead but you are under my roof and no harm shall befall you. I shall protect you in this life.” Hannibal’s deep voice, rich like silk, caressed your ears. The syllables he uttered seeped into your mind and calmed your nerves and you pressed your head further into Hannibal’s hands. Hannibal felt the movement and his fingers flexed in their hold as did he go from comforting you to holding you in place. You were slowly pulled back, back, to rest against Hannibal’s chest, and Will automatically stood up as Hannibal raised his leg and turned his body to the side so that he lay across the full expanse of the sofa. Your back was pressed to his chest, your head supported by Hannibal’s shoulder, and you laid there together. Will hovered for a moment and then pulled up a chair so that he could sit by your head, his hands reaching out for both of yours.
With your head held in place by Hannibal, though you knew that you could move easily if you wanted to, and your hands held by Will, the calloused pads of his thumbs soothing across the backs of your hands in gentle back and forth movements, you felt the fearful ache in your chest lessen somewhat, though you were still terrified. How could one noise be so loud?
“It’s because the, uh, the electricity in the sky is like a very big waterfall. There’s so much of it all at once and it all has to go somewhere.” Will’s deep cadence caressed your ears just as Hannibal’s had and he squeezed your hands in comfort. He understood and empathised completely with your fears, and he knew exactly what you needed even before you did. His imagination was a double edged blade but in times like this was he grateful for it. “And the - the, uh, the lightning is really close with the thunder because light travels faster through the air than sound does.” Will’s simplified version of Hannibal’s textbook explanation still did little to soothe you, but at the men’s touches and at the sounds of their voices could you feel yourself coming down by even the smallest measure. You nestled back into Hannibal and the elder of the two men made a small noise in the back of his throat. It was soft, welcoming, and your back melted into his chest as a series of tender kisses were pressed to the back of your head, Hannibal’s sharp nose lingering in your dark strands as he inhaled you at your most natural. Oh, how easily he could kill you, just a twist of his wrists... but he cherished you, and he much preferred his life with you in it. You had been so deeply hurt and so wronged by so many in your life, and for one so young did Hannibal feel a true tug upon his heartstrings; long ago had he believed that they had ceased to function but you and Will had revitalised him.
As Hannibal kissed the back of your head, his chest rising and falling with each deep and steady breath, Will leaned forward and pressed a kiss to your forehead, his eyes wide open as he timed the kiss so that his own landed just as Hannibal’s did. You were surrounded with love in its most animalistic, rawest form from all sides and so distracted were you by the candid displays of love and affection that you almost, almost forgot about the tempestuous storm outside. The storm inside was being tended to, as well, for there was nothing that your beautiful men wouldn’t support you through, wouldn’t be with you through, and no matter how bad things become, you would always have love to fall back upon. Will pulled away and rested his forehead against yours, his breathing deep and exaggerated as he told you without words to breathe with him, to feel him and to feel your Hannibal, and to know that you were loved, that you were safe.
The hunter had long ago become the hunted, and your arrows of love had landed so perfectly that both Will and Hannibal were left wondering just how they had ever lived before you.

So This Is Love
Cinderella dreamed of going to the Prince's Ball. Since hearing about it, the young woman saw herself, dressed in a beautiful dress, going to the Palace. She imagined dancing on a large track, perhaps in the Prince’s arms...
She sighed. She sincerely believed she could go if she continued to obey her mother-in-law's orders. Unfortunately, Cinderella guessed that the cruel stepmother had her opinion on the matter. She feared that Cinderella would attract more attention from the audience than her own daughters. So she had given her an insurmountable amount of household chores. And, to make the challenge even more impractical, she was supposed to have finished her housework before the end of the day.
The poor Cinderella suppressed her tears. Her three tormentors had just left, making noise on purpose. The knock of the brutally closed door echoed in the entrance hall... and stabbed her in the heart.
She finally allowed herself to cry and slid on the sparkling floor. It was so unfair! She had made an effort, had been docile, and this is how she was rewarded ...
♥♥♥
Sora looked around. He was on the edge of a wood. He could no longer know which side he was coming from. He got lost following a Heartless. He had never visited this world before.
Fortunately, he had come with Riku.
Unfortunately, he also lost Riku.
Sora knew he’ll always found his friend. That said, he would have preferred to stay by his side. Sora didn't panic. He could see, a hundred yards from his position, a pretty house. The Keyblade Wielder took this direction. He hoped the locals could help him. The day was slowly falling. The surroundings were calm now that they were rid of the Heartless. He could hear the birds singing. But no traces of Riku.
He finally arrived near the building. He couldn't hear anything. Was the house empty? No. One room was lit, and Sora could see a motionless figure inside. He approached the door and knocked. He waited. It took a while, but eventually someone came to open it. It was a blonde girl, a little older than him, dressed in an apron, but the first thing Sora noticed was her reddened eyes - as if she had just cried. He forgot his original purpose.
"Er- Are you okay?”
“I...” The young woman bowed her head to hide. “Can I help you?”
Sora tried another approach, trying not to embarrass her.
"I’m Sora. What’s your name?”
"Cinderella.”
"Well then, Cinderella, I’m looking for my friend Riku. Have you seen him? A tall boy around my age.”
"I didn’t see anyone, I was busy. I’m sorry.”
Sora couldn't ignore the distress in Cinderella's voice. He worried about Riku, but trusted his friend. He could defend himself and find his way. They would soon be gathered. Cinderella, on the other hand, looked lonely and sad.
"You seem discouraged. Can I do something for you?”
Cinderella stared at him, eyes rounded with surprise. Her reaction puzzled Sora. It looked like she was not used to having someone worried about her. He scratched his head, thoughtful.
He had encountered such cases during his journey- people who had been betrayed, disappointed, left out, and who needed help. People who had dreams, feelings, but who were so insecure that they couldn't move forward. He had helped some of these people - and all of them had brought him something, spiritually speaking. These meetings were now part of his heart. Surely that was why Sora wanted so bad to help Cinderella.
"Listen, I know we only just met, but I know how to recognize someone who needs a friend’s help. Am I wrong?”
"No... actually, you appeared at the right time...”
At these words, Cinderella buried her face in her hands, trying to hide the tears that started to flow down her cheeks again. Sora remained silent. He gently grabbed the young woman by the shoulder and drove her inside the house. He let her sit on a chair and faced her, arms crossed over his chest.
He gave Cinderella some time to recover from her emotions - he was quite emotional and he was familiar with the urge to cry.
Cinderella wasn't sure why, but she instinctively trusted the boy, and told him of her misfortune. Sora wondered why her mother-in-law was so cruel to her, though she had never done anything to her. Really, grown-ups could be so weird sometimes!
The teen contemplated the situation: how could he help her? The main problem, he assessed, was to finish cleaning. From what he understood, Cinderella would be severely punished if she didn't finish that task tonight. It was pointless to think about the continuation before this chore is accomplished.
"I’ll help you to clear eveything!” he proclaimed.
Cinderella was skeptical: even with his help, it was a lot of work!
"Don’t worry. I’ve got a friend out there who’ll help. Just wait a little.”
♥♥♥
This is how Riku found himself sweeping the house of someone he had met for literally five minutes.
The poor had ended up falling on the house and, seeing the door open, had entered. Sora welcomed him and presented Cinderella to him before giving him a malicious smile:
"And now, time to work!”
Riku hadn't even tried to protest. He saw on the one hand Cinderella’s sadness and on the other Sora’s determination. He didn't want to disappoint them. Either way, they were there to help others. He forced himself to put some enthusiasm in what he was doing - that is to say, scrubbing the windows of the house - while Sora was polishing the stair railings and Cinderella swept the dust. The young woman began to sing, as if to motivate herself, and immediately, the younger of the two boys began to hum to accompany her. Sora sang well, and his voice made Riku smile. At least until Sora said:
"C’mon Riku, sing with us!”
Taking care not to look at him, Riku continued to rub the windows. He ... was very uncomfortable with the idea of singing. He wasn't even sure of how to do it, or if he was even able to do it. It wasn’t really his style to get noticed.Maybe he had learned to open up to others, but he was still someone discreet, except maybe with his closest friends.
Sora ran down the steps and rushed over to him. Riku had no choice but to look at him. His friend gave him a pleading look, his big bright blue eyes staring at him.
“I was going to do it!” lied Riku, trying not to show his embarrassment.
"Great!” said Sora with a beaming smile over his face.
"Hey, stay focused!” teased Riku, who laughed despite everything, because Sora's joy was always communicative.
Behind them, Cinderella regained courage. She felt something in her heart that she hadn't felt in a long time: hope, and the affection of someone who really cared about her. It was strange that these feelings were caused by two complete strangers ... Life was strange.
They sang together and didn't even notice that they were already at the end of their work.
“And now, Cinderella, let's take of the next step: make your dream come true!”
"There's still a problem ... I don't have a dress. My sisters-in-law ransacked the one I had ... I can't go to the castle like that! I would love to be presentable for the ball… ”she said with tremors in her voice.
As she spoke, a light appeared before their eyes. When it dimmed, they could see the silhouette of a woman dressed in blue.
"Hey! That’s you!” shouted Sora in disbelief.
"Hello, Sora, Riku, said the fairy, before turning to an amazed Cinderella. I heard your wish, my dear. I think you, above all, deserve to be heard.”
The fairy, noticing Cinderella's perplexity, took on a reassuring expression, and uttered a magic formula - which Sora never remembered- waving her wand. Immediately, Cinderella was dressed in a beautiful blue dress that went very well with her blond hair and clear eyes. She contemplated herself, speechless.
”Oh! Thank you!” exclaimed the young woman, throwing herself into the fairy's arms.
Sora looked at them, hands on hips, beaming. He glanced at Riku. Riku felt proud. He had understood how important this ball was in their new friend’s eyes. Sora held out his hand, and Riku clapped it cheerfully.
Once the fairy left, Sora, Riku and Cinderella embarked on the carriage specially designed by the fairy’s magic from a huge pumpkin. Riku took the driver's seat, but Sora landed behind him.
“Do you think we’ll make it at the right time?” he said low enough that only Riku could hear him.
"I hope so.”
He made the horses speed up. He had no idea what time it was, but they were probably late. Cinderella was consumed with anxiety. They finally saw the castle in the distance. They hid the carriage in the surrounding woods. As they were about to run to the Castle’s doors, the fairy appeared again right in front of them. Riku slipped and Sora fell in surprise. Rushed, the fairy waved her arms.
”Cinderella, go, but don't forget: you have to leave at midnight!”
Cinderella promised. She was going to worry about what the fairy wanted when the old woman signaled her to leave.
"They will join you soon enough.”
After giving them one last look, Cinderella eventually ran away. The fairy took out her wand.
“I almost forgot a detail, my boys. You can’t go to the Ball like that.”
Before they had the chance to ask her what she was talking about, she made new clothes appear on them. She didn't even took the time to explain herself and disappeared in a flash of light, leaving the two boys caught off guard, discovering their new outfits.
Sora looked up at Riku, still on the floor. He saw that he was dressed like a knight, with a sort of plaid tunic surrounded by a thick belt with a golden strap adorned with patterns in the shape of curved hearts, surmounted by an elegant dark blue cape and an imposing black leather shoulder pads. He was... impressive.
As for Sora…. Riku reached out to help him get up. They faced each other, which left Riku with the opportunity to discover his outfit: a red and gold open-necked suit, a purple cape that covered only one of his shoulders, and white pants almost concealed by high boots in brown leather. Riku thought it made him look… like a prince.
They were speechless, staring at each other, planted face to face like statues, unable to say anything or to take their eyes off the other. Sora eventually thought of looking at himself, and cried out in excitement, like a child in front of a new toy. Riku looked at himself too and blushed. Did he looked ridiculous? He had no idea.
Sora calmed down a bit and dusted off: in his fall, he had put some soil on his suit. Then he finally dared to meet Riku's gaze, who nodded, suddenly intimidated.
"Er... we’d better... join Cinderella.”
Riku nodded, and eventually they rushed to the palace.
♥♥♥
They announced themselves and, to their great relief, they were allowed to come in - no doubt the guards too had thought that Sora was a prince. Riku took a deep breath and held out his arm to Sora, without looking at him. Sora chuckled and grabbed his arm. Riku forced himself to wear the noble and dignified air of a knight, because that was the only role that came to his mind.
Sora discreetly showed him the dance floor. Cinderella, resplendent, waltzed in the arms of a young man - the prince, Riku guessed. He let his gaze analyze the assembly and noticed an elegant woman with a surly air with two young women whom obviously were sulking. No need to be a genius to guess it was the horrible stepmother and her daughters. Riku chuckled when he saw that they've been outdone by Cinderella.
”We should join them on the dancefloor”, whispered Sora to his hear. “It'll prevent the jealous from making a fuss.”
"You know how to dance?”
"There’s only one way to find out!”
That was just like Sora: ready to go on an adventure as soon as the opportunity arises. Riku was ready to follow him everywhere. Even if he was a little apprehensive.
They walked to the couple who occupied the dancefloor. As soon as they were within earshot, Riku greeted the prince and Sora introduced themselves.
“I'm a Prince of a foreign island, and Riku is my knight.”
Riku pretended to look around, blushing furiously. He hadn't thought Sora had the same idea as his. Besides, he presented him as his knight. Should he be flattered or Sora was making fun of him? Probably a bit of both...
In any case, Cinderella beamed, a tender smile on her lips. She had dared to believe in her dream and it had come true. The thought warmed the two boys' hearts.
The music started again, and their friend gave them a discreet sign which meant: Thank you! She and the prince walked away and, to the sound of the orchestra, they started dancing, soon joined by the audience. Riku felt his throat tighten and hardly looked back at his companion.
"Now it’s up to us!” told Sora.
Riku agreed, though unconvinced. Very quickly, Sora took his left hand in his and put the other on his shoulder. Riku felt his heart beating wildly in his chest but tried to pretend nothing was wrong and imitated Sora, placing his free hand on his shoulder blade. Until then, nothing complicated, if put aside the embarrassment that experienced Riku, but it soon became a little more complex.
They watched the dancers around them, and tried to imitate their steps. To their discharge, they did quite well, their cloaks concealing the fact that they occasionally walked on their feet. Their steps were probably not the right ones, but they managed - to Riku's surprise- to keep up the pace.
Little by little, Riku felt a little more comfortable. They were in the middle of the crowd, no one was looking at them, and Sora looked like he was really having fun. Riku plunged his eyes into his. Sora didn't noticed it immediately, looking the people around and greeting them from time to time.
Then he turned to him and their eyes, and without even realizing it, Riku found himself absorbed. He could only vaguely make out the world around him, and the only music he could hear was his panicked heartbeat. He gave up hiding his emotions and felt himself softening. He didn't know if Sora would perceive what he was feeling.
♥♥♥
"You’re... you’re doing well.”
Riku's compliment pleased Sora very much.
"You're not too bad yourself. We make a beautiful... duo."
He almost said "couple," and wondered why he forbid himself to pronounce it. He noticed that his hesitation had caused a reaction in Riku, whose skin had turned pink. Without thinking, he put the flat of his hand on one of his cheeks. He realized that his gesture was strange. He immediately withdrew his hand to check if they were looked at, before saying, embarrassed:
"Er... are you hot...?”
Riku looked so uncomfortable! He nodded and lowered his head, his silver hair hiding his face. However, he continued to dance as if nothing had happened. Sora was grateful to him. He was just disappointed to have ruined the connection he had felt between them.
The music stopped soon after that. The guests made their way to a buffet. Most of them left. Riku and Sora parted, and Riku muttered to Sora:
"I'm going outside, to get some... fresh air.”
Sora wanted to ask him if he could accompany him, but the words got stuck in his throat. He watched his friend walk away and follow several guests on the terrace. He hesitated, and after a few minutes of waiting he decided to join him.
Riku was sitting alone at the edge of a fountain. His fingers touched the water. Sora could hear it lapping peacefully. He sat next to him without saying anything. He looked at the stars. Riku ended up speaking first:
"I'm sorry if I was a little embarrassed."
"It's okay. I was too."
"It is less visible when it's you", whispered Riku.
Sora nodded.
"We're still having a good evening, right?”
Riku was about to approve, when they saw Cinderella and the Prince walking away from the palace, very close to each other.
"Looks like we’re not the only one who spend a good night.”
The boy's remark amused Sora. He was glad that their friend had managed to get the Prince’s attention. Obviously, they were gone to get along very well.
"I think our mission ends here. But I'm glad we did it."
"Oh, really?" asked Sora.
"Yeah. It helped me to... figure out some stuff."
He stared at Sora who could do nothing but stare at him, piqued with curiosity, and added with a mysterious tone:
"You’d like to know what, huh?”
Seeing Sora's outraged expression, Riku laughed, which startled passersby. He didn't hold back, which pleased Sora. Riku was usually not very demonstrative in public. Such bursts of laughter were precious moments to share. He threw himself on Riku laughing and they fell into the fountain. Scandalized cries surrounded them, but they paid no attention to them. However, they were forced to react when someone threatened to call the guards.
"Quick, Riku, let’s get out of here!”
The two teenagers barely extricate themselves from the fountain, weighed down by their soggy clothes. Riku pulled Sora from there, then they stepped over the walls of the fountain, and they ran, Sora's hand tightly clasped to Riku's.
The guests gaped at these two young people fleeing into the woods. Behind them the clock struck. It was midnight.

I hope you enjoyed it! This fanfic isn’t chronologically correct as Cinderella’s ball occurs during Birth By Sleep. But let’s imagine it didn’t just for this one shot, okay? ^^’ Cinderella was the only Disney that fits the atmosphere I was searching for this fanfic, and the only one that somehow gave a context for this to happen. Besides, I really like Cinderella. It was hard to write the dancing part because I basically don’t know anything about dance but I think I managed to do something correct...? Anyways I like my boys so much they’re so awkward and cute!!!

Ayesha Liveblogs Cardcaptor Sakura S1
For faithfulness reasons, I’ll forgo rewatching in English even though I’m Jared 19 and never learned how to read
I will say the original English dub had a BANGER of a theme song and I do miss that
"I’m a Fourth Grader at Tomoeda Elementary” I know I watched this like when I was age 7 or smth but SHE’S LIKE 10?? OH MY GOD who is letting this ten-year-old roam the streets
“I’m gonna stomp on him” [Lucille Bluth voice] good for her
I fully forgot Sakura had a dad I was ready to accept her Grade 11 brother raising her
Sakura’s roller blades give me visceral memories of my barbie skates
Lmao is Yuki’s ability to throw a piece of candy at a child from a moving bicycle backwards foreshadowing his superhero abilities
Okay having checked this scene in both English versions and Japanese, my opinion no one asked for: the Aminax version is bad voices on all counts, Japanese has a better voice for Toya and original English dub has a better voice for Sakura and Yukito (who they called Julian lmao) I am not accepting constructive criticism
Tomoyo and Sakura sound so similar I could not even tell that Tomoyo was speaking omg
“There isn’t anything cuter or more interesting than you Sakura-chan” Tomoyo is really honest with her feelings I guess ten-year-olds be like that sometimes
“Is someone there” home invasions are what happens when you don’t lock your front door
This is not a study lmao this is a personal library there is hardly a workspace just aisles of shelves
Oh shit The Clow WIND RAIN SHADOW WOOD SWORD POWER THUNDER SLEEP CARD CAPTORS OF THE CLOW EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED NOW
Wait if this is hanging out in her dad’s study was her dad the last Cardcaptor lmao
Or probs her mom, since she’s gone the way of all anime moms
Sakura is accepting this whole “tiny magical flying lion” thing p well
“I accidentally fell asleep” “For how long” “30 years” same
“Stand right over there” Kerberos does not ask permission before magical girl transforming you lmao
“Why are you acting so wimpy” bc she’s 10 and you’re asking her to fight a giant ghost bird???
Honestly I love a good quest-to-collect-important-items maybe Inuyasha and DBZ ruined my taste but it’s a great formula
“You’ll be a better adult if you have all sorts of experiences in your life” r u going to take career counselling advice from a tiny flying lion Sakura
I do kind of miss Kero’s slightly unhinged young man energy
I like that whenever Sakura’s brother is rude she steps on his foot or kicks him fkjhjgkh excellent little sister depiction
I was expecting more secrecy but it is very funny to see Tomoyo try to convince her friend to be a superhero
“Do a flashy one” kfhkjdhkj Kero supports the use of magic powers for showing off
“Trademark poses and skills are the basic parts of being a magical girl” oh my gooood
I mean if I walked into my school and there was a mountain of haphazard desks waiting there I too would be threatened
Sakura is the only one in this group who has a reasonable understanding of what ten-year-olds should be allowed to do
LMAO @ Tomoyo’s team of bodyguards dropping her off to break into the school ONLY TO DRIVE AWAY
Tomoyo and Kero’s friendship is killing me the SHENANIGANS
I’m not sure I accept this light logic bc you need light to cast a shadow
Sakura’s “heart-racing first date” ur TEN oh my god
I mean it’s nice that Sakura wants to save the penguin but why did it take that for her to get upset it was going to drown a whole adult woman
Did Toya just RIP APART a WHIRLPOOL with his BARE HANDS
I wonder how Toya feels that his little sister has a crush on his boyfriend lmao
This cell phone is really top of the line for 1999 lmao I love it
U know if I were a high school student and my friend asked my 10 year old sibling out to lunch instead of me I’d be confused
"They’re not even gonna hold hands? Kids these days” This is a VERY weird vibe for an episode
You know I guess if you never watch the second episode you never have context for all of these superhero outfits LMAO
None of these locations have security cameras I guess the 1990s was a lawless time
Will all of Yuki’s magical advice be delivered in the form of mysterious field trips
LMAO @ YUKITO ALWAYS TAKING SAKURA TO TOYA’S TEMP JOBS
Say what you will about the ominous influence of the other card, I think Wood is being fairly polite since it’s contorting around her house instead of destroying it lmao
“I was planning to film ‘Sakura Dances in the Jungle’ in the park today” I love Tomoyo
Every little girl in this show sounds so similar lmao this is not good for my distracted watching style
Wow Ms Maki is really unloading on these two fourth grade girls
Since Tomoyo clearly interacts with even the more spirit-like Clow Cards I really have to wonder why no one else in this town is seeing these giant ghost monsters loom around the city
Well I guess this episode is a direct response to my previous comment
“I can’t stand scary stories” says the girl who spends her nights going into isolated areas and fighting magical ghosts
Seeing Sakura activate her Fly card really gives me overwhelming nostalgia for the days I wanted nothing more than to be a Cardcaptor I used to wave around a toy broom like that magic key ahhhhhhhh
In the absence of the first English voice and with the added gentle Japanese intonation for his speaking, I am constantly forgetting that Yukito’s character is a 16-year-old boy
Toya is really casually bomb-dropping the fact that he used to see ghosts and Yuki’s just like ‘dope are there ghosts around now’
Omg Kero’s sad face as he dropped the flower in Sakura’s lap 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
“I want to see if she wants to tell me something” like maybe ‘don’t run around town at night chasing ghosts ur 10!!!’
UHHHH AGAIN TOYA REAL CASUAL ABOUT THE GHOST THING
Yukito Tsukishiro: Chronic Aid-er and Abet-er of Pre-teen Mischief
Also if I’m right his name means something like “Ice White Moon?” Very heavy-handed foreshadowing lmao
“After we left, I went to the museum again and borrowed one” TOMOYO U CASED THE JOINT KJDHFKJHF
WHY IS EVERY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KID IN THIS TOWN ABLE TO BREAK INTO THIS MUSEUM SO EASILY
Tomoyo is eerily well-prepared for this mission it’s like she has been planning to burgle a museum all her life
They really made an executive choice to have both a Yuuki and a Yuki that was a decision that someone made
Oh hey it’s the other pre-teen supehero!!! That guy!!
The more I think about it, the stranger the height difference between Sakura and her brother becomes bc compared to him she’s really like 2.5 feet tall they did not pick a proportion scale
U see this what I mean by gentle intonation, Syaoran somehow sounds older than Yuki simple by roughness of voice
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH TOYA U DEFEND UR SISTER
“Here, a steamed pork bun” Yuki sure nows how to de-escalate lmao
“That is made out of an insulator as well” Tomoyo is really prepared for any and every situation
It’s not fair of Li to compare what is probably years of magical training from his family to ‘trial by fire for eight weeks with a plush toy who doesn’t explain anything important until critical moments’
I’m really not sure what’s happening with Rika and the teacher but I DON’T LIKE IT
“I just want to be with you as long as possible” [cut to floral pattern] Tomoyo is aiming to supersede Yuki as Gentle Shojo Protagonist Sakura Fixates On looool
I’m sure there’s NOTHING significant about this familiar-looking sword brooch
Kero biting Li whenever whenever he says something rude to Sakura kghkjghk direct feminist action
What IS THIS business with Li running away flustered like that are pre-teen Cardcaptors ONLY allowed to have a crush on Yukito
“I guess I’ll have to beat him up once” Toya has zero qualms about fighting a ten-year-old
Two fourth graders giving Yukito chocolate while he peacefully hangs out with his boyfriend is the funniest version of executing this weirdness that could happen
What I’m really wondering is how the hell they cut out or explained away Li’s crush in the first English anime
“You were just a fledgling teacher and you married one of your [high school] students!!” u did WHAT what the FUCK MR. KINOMOTO I’m on Sonomi’s side
“Mother got married when she was 16″ MR. KINOMOTO CANCELLED! BANNED! THE HELL IS THIS!
“It was I who was granted time with Nadeshiko from her 16th to 27th birthdays” GO 2 JAIL DO NOT PASS GO
This episode has added a lot of layers to this show none of which I like
“What kind of person was my dad” someone who should be banned from teaching
“Your father is a disgusting person” WELL
SONOMI I KNOW UR TRYING TO BE NICE BUT HE HAS AT LEAST ONE MAJOR FLAW
Lmao they’re not even giving context why Yuki is around anymore he’s just an accepted artifact of the Kinomoto household
How is that the Time card is Li’s but not Thunder since he also returned that one to its original form
“Their fastest confirmed speed is over 100km/h” Yamazaki leave Li alone he just wants to adore the sloths jhfkhgjhgkhg
Ahhhhhh Li helping Sakura get the Power card?? These motives are quite hard to read but it seems sweet
OMGGG @ TOMOYO MAKING SAKURA DEADLIFT A PLAYGROUND
“I heard a rumour that everyone who asked Kinomoto out has been denied.” Well. [x]
“It’s one of the seven strangest things at this school, that both Kinomoto and Tsukishiro don’t have girlfriends.” WELL. [x]
AWWWWW YUKI DOESN’T LEAVE THE OTHER PRE-TEEN FAN CLUB MEMBERS OUT OF HIS KIND GESTURES
[Hannibal Buress voice] I was so caught up in euphoria of festival arcs, that for like a minute I lived in a world where the rest of this anime didn’t exist
TOYA BEING THE STAR OF DRAG CINDERELLA... OP UR MIND
I have no idea what the premise of the next Clow Card is but I really hope it’s “turn u into whatever ur acting as” bc I will LOSE my mind
I have not heard Yuki once intone as passionately as he did when he thought Toya was going to fall
“You like someone else” 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀
“I didn’t promise anyone else a dance” Can I just say I LOVE TOYA?
The moment of stillness before Yukito revealed who he was asking to dance lmao... the repressed teenage wlw inside me LIVES
Yuki and Toya tag-teaming as the Sakura Support Team my heart!!
Geolocating someone from a fax... the incredible 90sness of this act....
I seriously don’t understand this world in which you leave 5- and 10-year-olds unattended for hours where are your child welfare laws
I am really choosing to ignore how absolutely bananas the concept of Tomoyo having a hidden Sakura Movie Theatre is
Speaking of weird, are we just trusting that this old man is normal? Is everyone doing that? I’m still not ready to trust yet the Sakura’s dad situation really burned me
“Girls look their best when they smile” a sweet thought that would not fly if an old man I just met told me that lmao
I’m REALLY not trusting this old man dressing up this girl in his dead (missing?) granddaughter’s clothes and staring broodily when she mentions there is a parent with her
“My great-granddaughter seemed happy” YOUR WHAT NOW
Their school trips seem much more fun than ours were we never went to the beach or fishing or got disappeared briefly in a cave
It continues to be funny how Sakura and Li have 0% tension re: Clow Cards, 99% tension re: Yukito who is already in a committed Something or the Other with Sakura’s brother
“Why were you on the roof” “Because it’s nice out today” LOL YUKITO
There’s no rhyme or reason to these card types huh some are like “I will destroy an entire zoo for fun” and other ones are like “mood lighting :)”
Sakura really isn’t out here to teach us any lessons lol it’s really a ‘get others to do your homework if you can get away with it’ episode
Rounding out the triad of superpowered pre-teens with Meilin I suppose
“Syaoran is my fiance” I have had it up to HERE with this anime cousinfuckery I don’t CARE if it’s cool in Japan or Hong Kong or whatever STOP BEING WEIRD WITH YOUR COUSINS
Poor Syaoran he was doing so well with getting along with Sakura until Meilin got here
"It was done by a girl again?” Oh my god is Meilin beating up grown men in parks for street cred
“It seems our relationship chart has gotten rather complicated” Tomoyo probably means astrology chart but here’s my understanding so far:
Speaking of complex relationships I wonder how Meilin will react to Syaoran’s crush on Yuki
This rivalry between Sakura and Meilin could not be more one-sided
I really was wondering for a second if the card was going to split in half
I love the vibe of Sakura and Toya teaming up to help their creepy dad but even MORE SO I love that Yukito is In This Household
“The contents are already up here” This episode really doesn’t hit the same way now that cloud storage exists and also what were all those floppy disks for if not to save your work Mr. Kinomoto
I love that Tomoyo always pulls her weight in her superhero sidekick role like she is here to support and help whenever needed
Sakura using her powers to impress her crush with a ghost duet lmao these priorities
“Sakura’s Little Adventure” I see what u did there
Kero’s little shoulder pat with his paw to let Sakura know he’s there aw
Omg this Clow Card is so cute “Is it your fault I’m so small now?” [nods pleasantly]
It is very bold of Sakura to be doing magic so casually when her brother and Yuki are right downstairs
I like that this show recognizes the inherent intimacy of allowing someone to cut your hair
“Information about you has gotten around to the cards” well this is an ominous start to this funky tarot reading
Well the experience of seeing his little sister try to murder him has got to be traumatizing for Toya I hope he doesn’t remember this
UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM DID TOYA JUST FALL OFF OF A CLIFF
“Can you give me a break... and stop looking like Sakura” EXCUSE ME
“My mom’s up there too, so say hi to her for me” OH MY GOOOOD TOYA REALLY DOES SEE GHOSTS AHHHHHHHHHHH
WAIT SO IT WAS A CLOW CARD DOES TOYA HAVE MAGICAL POWERS TOO
Omg @ Toya feeding Yuki from his bed this really is an intimate episode
I kind of appreciate the slow build of this show like it took them 25 episodes to introduce meaningful stakes
“But it might be tougher than the earth going ‘boom!’ Depending on who you are...” Well hello threatening figure in sunglasses standing outside Sakura’s house what’s up
“I’ll look the other way” Ms Mizuki is literally this meme:
I can only assume that if Toya knows Ms. Mizuki then she must be a ghost
Personally if Mizuki gives Syaoran the heebie jeebies I trust his instincts
“Um... do you like Yukito too?” Oh my goooood they’re sincerely discussing being Not Straight in middle school in this 90s anime that I watched when I was 7 I cannot believe
“And it’s been a year since you told me you loved me here” WHY DOES EVERYONE IN THIS FAMILY WANT TO DATE SOMEONE TOO OLD FOR THEM WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU DOING DATING SOMEONE TOYA’S AGE MIZUKI
Also I have to rethink every thought I had about Toya being gay. I mean bi is great too but my thoughts..... racing...........
“Because the next time I see you, you’ll have someone else that you’ll be in love with” Yukito BF confirmed but oh my GOD this relationship chart IS complicated good lord
If there’s anything the episode “Sakura and Her Shrine of Memories” has taught me it’s that everyone in this show is bisexual and all teachers in their neighbourhood should be in jail
I understand that Meilin is a kid but poor Syaoran he is constantly being harassed
I love Yuki’s bottomless stomach lmao
Syaoran and Sakura have such a genuinely supportive relationship but it is very funny how they try simultaneously to get Yuki’s attention with the exact same words
“I’ve been thinking for a while that Mr. Terada is a lot like my dad” oh thank you Rika for someone finally being normal in this show
“Well it’s a harmless one” You see this is what I mean the dichotomy of Clow Cards is like... “I’m going trap you in a maze until you perish” or “I’m gonna give you a sugar rush :]”
I like that Sakura and Syaoran are starting to partner up as a duo on purpose like yessss I love a 1-2 finish and friendship development
Ahhh poor Syaoran he’s realizing that Yukito’s #1 in his life is the Kinomoto fam
We’re all familiar with the eternal struggle of whether using ur superpowers for school sports is cheating
AWWW SYAORAN USING HIS POWERS FOR MAGICAL PEP TALKS AFTER HE HELPED TURN REI’S PET FOX INTO A POKEMON CARD THAT’S MY BOOOOY
“I will stomp on him” it’s been 31 episodes let Sakura stomp on her brother
Oh my GOOOD does this Big card mean that Sakura WILL FINALLY STOMP ON TOYA LMAO
Ur telling me that no one else in this ENTIRE TOWN notices this altercation of a giant preteen vs a dragon
Why does the logic for how voices travel based on size apply for the Little card (when Toya was speaking) and not for the Big card (when Sakura is speaking)
Sgskdhgkhkgjh honestly body switching as a trope will never not be funny
Syaoran blushing and running away from Sakura oh how the turn tables
Every domestic scene that Yuki and Toya have adds ten years to my life we love some gay/bi teens about to be gay/bi adults
Ffskhhfkj I absolutely cannot relate to this Southern Hemisphere nonsense of finding ten degrees celsius arctic cold like BRO that is a normal spring day here
“We’re not frozen because we have magical powers” I know that cutaway was to confirm Mizuki’s magical powers again but this would’ve been a hilarious time to reveal that like Yamazaki the Compulsively Lying Classmate had powers
Awwww he likes her now that’s cute
“I got work that day” I will bet someone ten dollars that Toya is working at that quiz rally
Update from 5 minutes later: PAYPAL ME $10
Kero keeps whispering to the moon when in fact some iteration of the moon is right around the corner (literally)
GOOOOOOOOD SYAORAN REALIZING HE HAS A CRUSH ON BOTH HALVES OF THAT TEAM KILLS ME SWEET BOY
Shared Gaze of People Who Have Dated* Toya and Have Magical Powers They Haven’t Revealed Yet
*Go to jail Mizuki
I am really going crazy wondering when they’re gonna reveal stuff about Yukito like bitchhhhhhh I know you’re a moon man when will u tellll usss
How many more times will Sakura have this same threatening dream before she realizes her math teacher is probably going to try to kill her
Update from one minute later: I guess it was exactly one more time
“That’s right, Yukito’s birthday is on Christmas day” is this coming to be a coming of age where he like suddenly sprouts wings at age 17
I’ve been thinking this for a while but this show makes it seem like Japan has a much more fun approach to athletics than my school experiences
Yukito really is unflappable about hanging out with a bunch of kids half his height huh he’s like the Fourth Grader Whisperer
I KNEW IT YUKITO NEVER GOES WITH SAKURA ANYWHERE UNLESS HER BROTHER WILL ALSO BE WORKING THERE DFHKDFHKJ every time it’s just “Hey Toya :)”
“This kid...” HAHAH TOYA HAS JUST REALIZED THAT SYAORAN HAS A CRUSH ON HIS LITTLE SISTER AND HIS BOYFRIEND THE UTTER SUSPICION IN HIS TONE
“Wind become a binding chain” Whoops Sakura foiled by 4th grade knowledge of the elements
Oh shiiiit love a world-building moment now we have two card combos in play ayyyyy
Lmao @ Kero using his returned powers immediately for fireworks mood lighting is a serious Clow Card priority
“I would like to come again this year” everything in this show feels like foreshadowing for dramatic irony

Being Human (UK)
This is a show that I recommend to people... but I add a lot of caveats.
The recommendation: A werewolf, vampire and ghost are flatmates. This show is hilarious! So much macabre and slice of life humor! And horror and whump!? Also, the show was run by a side-channel of BBC (BBC3) and I guess they had no production money, so the actors mostly look human and they just refer to each other as being a 500-year old vampire or ghost or whatever. Which makes it even better. The werewolf is Jewish, recites a Jewish prayer at least once, and hangs out watching “The Real Hustle” with the vampire. They work in a hospital as janitors. The ghost has a habit of making everyone tea to soothe herself and the flat is cluttered with tea mugs everywhere all the time. Also, people do get fang-y or wolf-y or do weird poltergeist stuff. And gore happens.
Longish post, more below the cut.
PS, this is the 2008-2013 UK version of Being Human, which I hear had a cult following. There’s certainly stuff on Tumblr. I found the BBC version through the US remake of Being Human, but I’m much more charmed by the BBC version. (The US version has the vampire and werewolf as hospital doctors? Why?) Also I watched the show maybe 4, 5 years ago, so impressions are from that.
And the caveats: There’s a lot of sexism which was hard to watch. It’s engrained in the premise and plot and occasional gross sexist jokes. And there’s other problematic stuff in the writing. It’s like having glass shards show up the meal you are enjoying, and it’s why I’m not sure I’ll rewatch the series (or not in it’s entirety, anyway). There’s also a limited spinoff web series called Becoming Human which also had some problems for me, including some gross sexism and fatphobia. (John Boyega from Star Wars does show up as a character in that series, for anyone interested.)
Back to Being Human and overall series recommendations. So the 1st season was good. I kind of forgot what happened in the 2nd and 3rd season (I think they got depressing and slow?). The 4th season picked up again, much to my surprise, and I remember liking the 4th and 5th season a lot. Even though [spoilers] there was a complete cast change by this time. But it worked, somehow. The show did go from at least having one woman of color to having an all-white cast at the end, which was not great. And there’s other racism too.
For people who like their happily-ever-after: uhhh so I vaguely recall that a lot of characters don’t really get a happy ending. Granted, half of them are walking around dead already, so...? Overall, the ending of the 5th season is... Is that a happy ever after? Happy for now? The Bonus on the DVD kind of makes it a happy-for-now with a continued possibility? It’s an acceptable HFN?
.....And now, the notes for all the hurt/comfort people and whumpers:
Holy crap people, there is SO much h/c and whump!?
OK first -- George the werewolf. George’s transformation sequence, SUPER whumpy.
youtube
Also, George ends up naked often, come to think. And he screams a lot during the show, for various reasons. The actor himself, in the bonus DVD interviews I think, cheerfully says something like, “People really like the way George screams, I do too.” (This is like when David Tennant cheerfully talked about how he enjoys playing a character who is unconscious and sick and gets fussed over by people.) And George is a very sympathetic, nerdy character who is easy to feel for. Who occasionally turns into a SNARLY SCARY WEREWOLF AGAINST HIS WILL. As mentioned, I think I liked season 1 George more than seasons 2 or 3.
Emotional hurt/comfort -- so Annie the Ghost provides a lot of the emotional centering, as I recall. Throughout all 5 seasons, all the characters lean on each other for support and there’s a lot of lovely warm fuzzies from that. Also, one of the later werewolf characters, Tom, is generally a sweet kid. I’m glad they didn’t do too much of the transformation horror with him, honestly. George/Russel Tovey could carry that, but I thought Tom’s strong point was looking puppy-eyed and folorn-eyebrow’d and trying to navigate the world with a mix of naivety and half-feral-ness.
Above: exhausted naps on the couch.
Below: Classic Being Human humor. A review of house rules and vampire stabbing etiquette, between Annie and Tom --
youtube
[Spoilers from here on] Okay, so as mentioned, the cast changed over between season 4-5. And to my surprise, I think I loved the new trio as much as, or more than, the original trio. I liked how loud Alex the ghost was. And I liked both Annie and Alex.
Also, I did not expect this either, but I got so interested in Hal! Yo! First of all, Hal is a centuries-old Vampire and speaks/looks like, idk, a Regency Character. And then 19-yr old Tom puts Hal to work at a fast food shop and bosses him around, and Hal’s indignation is hilarious. So already, this is excellent.
And somehow, Hal is very, very whumpy? So: the character of a “vampire who is trying to be good and suffers” is not new, and I’ve encountered versions where I haven’t been interested. (I was lukewarm about Mitchell, the original vampire in the show.) But for whatever reason, I really dug Hal. Maybe, for me, Hal was just the right mix of very serious and earnest but also ridiculous and tragic all at once. (I read some interviews with the actor Damien Molony, who mentioned how he’d done a lot of history and addiction research in to prep for the role. The new trio actors also had a lot of chemistry and fun on sets, it sounds like. So I might be picking up all that.)
Also, Hal is actually two characters -- the ridiculous indignant serious Good Hal who is desperately trying to keep the horrible, rude, murderous, Bad Hal from taking over. But, as one of the show producers, a woman, cheerfully commented in the DVD extras: “And then Bad Hal shows up, which is great, everyone likes a bit of Bad Hal”.
Honestly, why do we even pretend to hide our fascination with the macabre and the whump, when showrunners and actors are cheerfully not hiding it all.
Here’s clips of Good Hal in Season 4:
youtube
Oh, I forgot about this part until I rewatched the last clip -- but at the end of season 4, Hal asks his flatmates to forcibly bind him to a chair, because he’s trying to fight off Bad Hal. Based on my perusing of the whump community, pretty sure that scenario is of interest to someone.
Also notable is the episode “No Care, All Responsibility” (Series 5 ep 3). In one scene in particular, where Natasha has offered Hal a way to control his bloodlust and there’s this mix of vulnerability and power with Hal asking Natasha to put a stake against his heart, I remember thinking -- “I bet a woman wrote this ep and I bet she knew exactly what she wanted”. And I was right, that woman is Sarah Dollard, a queer woman who has also written a lot of other things (including Doctor Who). She also wrote Being Human goofy web extra eps with Alex, Hal and Tom called “Alex’s Unfinished Business” and they are so good ! (Interview).
Also... the opening 3-minute backstory in “No Care...” made me cry. You get a glimpse of the show’s baddie showing real care and emotion in rescuing this little kid (an important character). When this kind of scene is done well, it just gets me. every. time.
Anyway here’s an appearance of Bad Hal (much later), being completely awful, murdering people and turning them into vampires and singing Broadway tunes during this.
youtube
Side note on Vampire narratives. Although Hal’s narrative arc of season 5 was interesting, and I’m aware this is show is urban fantasy, I still have qualms of the show enforcing IRL stigmas/ideas that addition is incurable and addicts are doomed. They’re not. (General overview on NIH page.) Addiction research is a growing field. From listening to NPR and reading articles, my impression is that addiction treatment will change quickly in the next few years. Related to the vampire blood addiction trope, Terry Pratchett covers vampires finding ways to be “dry” (one vampire, Maladict, swaps out blood addiction for coffee addiction) and you can find fanfics about the topic as well. (General link to Being Human Ao3 fanfics, why not.)
Side note on Hal’s dual characters -- recently, I did consider, “Is there overlap with Hal and portrayals of Dissociative Identity Disorder (MPD) folks?” IRL DID people have complained about movies with gross portrayals of people with DID. To me, Being Human’s Hal feels removed from that and closer to a fantasy.... but, I’m also not multi, so.
* Update: after having learned more about plural history, I’m even less sure now. (Note: my opinions are of someone who isn’t plural, as far as I know, so note that.) There’s a number of early problematic movies and books that hugely affected the popular narratives of plural people in the west, and still affect how therapists and non-plural people treat plural people even today. These include the movie “The Three Faces of Eve”, which has the narrative of “Good Eve, Bad Even, and later smushed together become ‘Fixed Eve’ or whatever”. There’s practically a whole lecture series on how the books/movies were made with sensationalism and formulas in mind and pretty gross things. Chris Costner Sizemore, the IRL Eve, had to fight the movie studios in court because the studios claimed they owned her life story. (There’s practically a whole lecture series on early plural history in the west, I might link more information later). Like, even today, multi people feel pressured to hide their plurality because they are afraid singlets or other people are gonna say “oh so which one of you is the ax murderer”, or that they are going to be fired from work. So.
This post turned into a “Being Human seasons 4 + 5 Appreciation Post”. I guess Season 1 and 4, 5 were my favorite. I watched the show through library DVDs, but I think there’s eps of the show on YouTube. The DVD extras are probably on this YouTube playlist?
(Also, there is a pilot episode, with different actors except George/Russel Tovey. I don’t think one needs to watch the pilot to watch the main series; I kind of recall that the main series recycled some of the pilot. There is a funny scene in the pilot where George and Mitchell meet Annie.)
Being Human: a macabre, hilarious, horror-filled, flawed, sometimes dragging, emotional, whumpy, oddball show that I still think about sometimes.

Precure Day 148
Episode: Futari wa Precure Splash Star 49 - “In Top Form! Forever Friends Under the Starry Sky!” Date watched: 29 July 2019 Original air date: 28 January 2007 Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/LingrF5? Project info and master list of posts: http://tinyurl.com/PCDabout
words don’t do this justice
note: I may revise this later if i look back and think of more to say. I probably will, bit i wanted to push this out now for personal reasons.
This is it. The finale. We finally made it! From November to now, Splash Star has been a long road plagued by personal difficulties and stubbornness and some lost sleep along the way, but I made it! And boy do we have a lot to discuss!
The Plot
When we left off, Saki, Mai, Michiru, and Kaoru, were infused with the power of spirits and transformed into Cures Bloom, Egret, Bright, and Windy. Gohyaan mocks their resolve and points out how all life is gone and there’s no light, no wind, nothing. It’s a world of ruin, except for the four of them, and he’s about to fix that. They battle, and as the girls again try to explain why they consider life so valuable, Gohyaan explains his backstory. He is an existence predating the universe, and he doesn’t like the commotion of life, so he wants to go back to the quiet. The girls won’t let that happen, because they have so much to live for. Gohyaan destroys the entire Earth, and thinks this is the end for them, but no! Saki explains how she needs to lead the softball team to victory. Michiru wants to try baking bread, because Saki’s is so delicious. Kaoru wants to draw with Minori and Mai, Choppi wants to live in the Land of Fountains, Flappi wants to confess his feelings, and Mai wants to keep drawing everyone’s smiles. They stand up, gather their power, and all together they perform a brand new four-person finishing attack: Precure Spiral Heart Splash Star!
This is too much for Gohyaan to handle and as the girls proclaim the strength of their hopes and futures, he is blown away.
The spirits of the various fountains and the Fairy Carafe reappear, and they restore everything to its original, beautiful state. We see all six fountains one final time, as the girls stand in front of the Sky Tree as they realize that it’s connected to the World Tree in the Land of Fountains. Princess Filia is fully restored to power, and Korone returns to being a normal, non-talking cat. However, Michiru and Kaoru have exhausted the last of their remaining energy, and they begin to fade away. Saki, Mai, Flaapi, Choppi, Moop, and Foop all cry deeply, not wanting to let their friends go, and even Filia seems sad but unable to do anything. However, a miracle occurs as the spirits of the Land of Greenery flow into the two, and Filia deduces that the spirits themselves want to live with the Michiru and Kaoru. They’re restored to life, and Princess Filia finally returns to her place in the Tree of Life.
At this point the first ending theme begins to play as we get a montage of events: All four girls visiting the Fountain of the Sky at long last, fulfilling that promise. Waving a tearful goodbye to their fairies. Mai and Kaoru drawing in school. The girls sitting on Gourd Rock in the spring. Saki and Michiru baking. And then, the softball tournament. Kaoru and Minori have drawn a picture to support Saki, while Michiru baked some bread in the shape of Saki’s head. Kaya, Miyasako, Kenta, Hitomi, Yuuko, and Mai are all in the stands anticipating the game. Saki looks into the stands and sees Izumida, the former captain, and suddenly gets nervous. She walks out of sight, and Mai walks up to her. They hold hands and Saki comments about how holding hands lets Mai’s energy flow through her, a callback to an earlier episode.
Then Saki walks out onto the field. Next thing we know, we’re treated to a few of Mai’s drawings: Saki holding the championship trophy, indicating they won. Everybody gathered together with Saki: Mai, Michiru, Kaoru, Kenta, Miyasako, Kaya, Hitomi, Yuuko, Izumida, Ms. Shinohara, Saki’s parents, Mai’s parents, Minori, Kazuyua, Korone, and all the fairies. Basically, every major character in the series. How nobody saw the fairies is not answered, and I have to assume it’s actually a photograph that Mai copied but details aside, it’s a great picture.
We zoom out to see Saki and Mai sitting beneath the Sky Tree, closing the sketchbook, and the real credits roll.
The Analysis
I absolutely love every minute of this. Even with the powers of all four spirits, Gohyaan is a formidable opponent, but the girls hold their own and manage to overcome him in the end. What is the power of destruction next to an indestructible will? He underestimates the power, the value, of life, and that is his ultimate undoing. He gets the peace and quiet he wants.... at the cost of his existence. And, indeed, this explains the Uzainaa’s name. It’s derived from “Urusai na”, which means “it’s annoying”. Gohyaan is an existence that predates the universe, and he doesn’t like the commotion created by life. It’s a darkly mundane reason to want to try to destroy everything, and frankly he should find a new hobby, but maybe in the end he learned that life is precious. Doesn’t seem like it, though. Honestly I don’t have much to say about the battle itself. There’s some good scenes, like this part where the cures all flip Gohyaan, but it’s more of an exchange of wills than a physical fight. Both are important aspects, as I’ve commented many times, I just want to note that the physical stuff was done last episode.
Let’s talk Michiru and Kaoru. Officially, they don’t get new designations even with the powers of Moon and Wind, because the idea at the time was still that Precures were only ordinary girls, but I think they deserve to be called Cure Bright and Cure Windy. Their journey is heartbreaking, even if their death was an inevitability and they were given a new lease on life very quickly. They never deserved what they got, but their tragedy is a part of this show I honestly forgot about, and I think it makes it more powerful. I knew Splash Star was an underrated gem but I had forgotten the depths of tragedy the Kiryuus were in, I kind of thought everything was pretty hunky-dory when they got back. Their journey escalates this show to a higher tier in my view, and I’ll have to remember that when making recommendations.
Obviously, they already had powers from being Dark Fall denizens, and getting Cure abilities doesn’t make them innately better, but it’s a great next step for them, epitomizing the journey they’ve undergone from mindless servants of Akudaikaan to friends and sisters who have a network of people who care about and support them, discovering their own interests, and getting to live life. They are every inch heroes in the way that Saki and Mai are and they have been done dirty by the franchise writ large.
The epilogue gives us a lot of things I really wanted. Michiru and Kaoru finally get some casual clothes, and they are really stylish.
Also, we fast forward to spring and see them in spring outfits and Michiru’s outfit is extremely similar to Nagisa’s spring clothes.
I’m happy to see them living normal lives, practicing baking and art and getting to experience life, finally. They seem so happy and I’m sure they have a bright future ahead of them and GOD DAMN IT TOEI WHY DO YOU IGNORE THEM. They were lucky to get Figuarts.
The softball championship game is something else I honestly forgot happened. I commented back in the last softball episode (35 I think) that we would never see Saki lead the team to victory the next year, because the show didn’t get a second season. Well, they took care of that here, and Saki did live up to her promise to Izumida by winning the championship.
In general it’s a lot of tying up loose ends that I really appreciate. Flappi finally confessed his feelings to Choppi and they’re a couple now, Kenta and Miyasako are still going strong as a manzai duo, Yuuko feels inspired by his encouragement even if they don’t seem to be a couple, and... well, the last closure we got on Saki and Kazuya was in the Christmas episode, but that’s just as well because Saki’s only love is Mai. For real though I love that the episode closes out on them being close, and you can choose to interpret their friendship any way you choose. It’s just perfect for this show.
Oh and there’s a little epilogue after the ending theme. On the TV broadcast it was probably a preview for Yes! 5, but we don’t get that here. Instead we get , some stills of Saki and Mai thanking everybody for watching, and saying that Precure will continue for a long time! And boy, truer words were never spoken.
Next time on precure Daily, I’m going to revisit a little Splash Star something that I forgot to do sooner. After that, I’m going to try to push out a retrospective on the entire Futari wa era, before we change up the formula big time with Yes 5. My goal is to finish Yes 5 by the end of 2019, but if I’m really good I might even be able to start GoGo this year. I don’t want to drag another show out for 8 months, so we’ll see where we end up. I hope to see all of you again soon!
Pink Precure Catchphrase Count: 1 Zekkouchou Nari!, in the title of the episode.

Lasabrjotr Chapter 29: Fear in Finery
Chapters: 29/? Fandom: Thor (Movies), Marvel Cinematic Universe Rating: Teen And Up Warnings: None Relationships: Loki x Reader (Let’s try this again) Characters: Loki (Marvel), Reader, Brunnhilde, Thor Additional Tags: Post-Endgame: Best Possible Ending (Canon-Divergent), On The Road, Horse With A Side Of Extra Horse, Shut Up Todd, Summary: You're having second thoughts about sitting in a courtroom with a man who tried to murder you, no matter how many gods are between you.
You were absolutely, completely, off your head drunk; a condition for which Loki was solely to blame.
“No work today.” He had said. “We must speak with lawyers, and that is work enough.”
He's been right. You had thought about teasing him for his perceived laziness: imagine calling off all your princely duties, just because you had to talk to someone!
But talking to the lawyers was excruciating. They were frighteningly serious, determined to get every last bit of information out of you, calm, cold, and unsympathetic. They had to be; it was an important part of their job. You didn't blame them for it, but having to re-live the experience two separate times-one for the prosecuting lawyer and another for the defending-was exhausting.
They hadn't let you and Loki be in the same room while they were asking their questions, leaving him irritable, and you an anxiety-riddled mess by the end of it all. The sticky honey buns you had made that morning hadn't stayed with you, and so, after they lawyers had satisfied themselves and left, he had whisked you away to one of the little private dining rooms to the side of the banquet hall, and ordered a lot of food, a lot of drink, and one of Beli's apprentices to provide music.
Loki himself had served you, in a reversal of his usual role. And you had allowed him, and now you were totally drunk.
He'd served you something he called 'crystal mead'; a sparkling, bubbly drink that changed color depending on how the light hit it.
“This is very young.” He had said. “So it should not be too potent for you.” It was so delicious, that you couldn't seem to stop drinking it, and even the food had not saved you from drunkenness.
You swayed to the music, unfamiliar but beautiful, trying to hum along. You thought you were doing pretty well, but Loki snickered every time you tried.
“It appears you have proven me wrong, my dear. Be proud. Precious few have ever done so.”
“Ooohhh, I'm Loki, and I'm soooo smart, and never wrong!” You snarked thoughtlessly. “I'm sooo strong, and soo handsome, and I've got everything under control.”
Loki grinned widely. “Your accent is off. If you are to impersonate me, you will need more practice. Tell me more about how handsome I am.”
“You hush! You know how scared I am? I don't wanna go! I don't wanna see that guy again, and I'm tired of almost dying! Can I stop?”
Loki sighed. “You have my permission to stop almost dying. I...well, I can't say I'm exactly the paragon of not almost dying, but I'll do what I can to keep you from also almost dying.”
“Howwww many times have you almost died?” You asked.
“Eh, three or four times.” He shrugged. “Not that often, in the long run.”
In the long run. In a life of thousands of years, perhaps that wasn't very many. Still, you were pretty sure that Saldis had never almost died, so maybe it was much worse than he was trying to make you believe. To you, it was still an unacceptable number of times. Surely Loki could not be allowed to die before you did. It just didn't seem right.
You patted his hand sloppily. “Loki. Loki, Loki, Loki.” You repeated. “That's way too much. Don't do that any more. You've used up all your turns, so you have to stop.”
“Well, since my Seidkona commands...”
“That's right! I'm Seidkona, so listen to me!...I still don't wanna go. But I'll go. Gotta do the right thing.”
“Well, not always...” He trailed off. “But if you're feeling brave, then yes. Do the right thing. In this case, it seems that duty commands it.”
You started to take another drink, but Loki stole the mead right out of your hands, and replaced it with an apple juice.
“Wha? Hey! Gimmie that back!” You protested. “I'm not done!”
“I'm afraid you are my dear. We can't have you so drunk this early in the day, can we? It's not even dark out yet!” The teasing was heavy in his voice. You crossed your arms and huffed.
“It doesn't get dark anymore!” You grumped. “Night time doesn't exist! The stars are lies, and the moon is a ghost!”
“Poetic, but you still cannot have any more. Here, have some bread instead. This one has that jam you like so much.” He always seemed to make sure that jam was there. You chewed the bread as if you were angry with it.
“I miss Phil.” You mumbled. Loki crooked one perfect eyebrow.
“Who is Phil?”
“My philodendron. He's special. He's as big as me, and he had variegated leaves. That's pretty rare. Normally they're really expensive, but Tara got me a cutting from her aunt, and I raised it...raised it up...I hope he's doing all right...” You choked the words out around the sudden lump in your throat, and Loki went from teasing to concerned in less time than it took to look.
“_____, I-”
You buried your head in your arms and let the tears burst out.
“I haven't talked to Tara in months! I haven't even sent her a letter! I almost got killed, and I didn't even leave her a note to say I was okay! She's my best friend, and I just forgot her!”
“N-now, now, _____,” Loki quickly, giving your back an awkward pat. “I'm sure she understands that your life has taken an unforeseen turn, and that you simply aren't as available-”
“I haven't paid my rent!” You wailed. “They probably sold all my stuff! Or trashed it! My plants! My cookbooks! My sketches! I can't replace them! My plants counted on me, and I abandoned them to go play fairy tale in some mythical world, where it's never night!”
A gesture from Loki sent the minstrel away, leaving just the two of you, you still sobbing onto the table, and Loki at a loss for what to do. Finally, he settled for draping one arm over your shoulders, and letting you decided the level of comfort you wanted.
“If you would like, we can contact your father, to see if he salvaged any of your belongings.” He offered. “If not, I intended to take you into town to get a few things for yourself anyway. We are going to be providing you with a cell phone, so you will be able to contact your friends and family. You haven't abandoned anyone, you've just been temporarily unavailable. Don't fret now, my dear, let all that stress go...”
He let you cry yourself out, offering the occasional coo or murmur of encouragement, and a handkerchief, as soon as you were done. It was, of course, brilliant green, with golden embroidery, and you almost felt bad for utterly wrecking it with your nose. Loki seemed to think it could be salvaged though, tucking it away somewhere in his magic pockets.
“Here, eat your bread now.” He said, pushing the plate at you once again. “And no more mead for a while. We will have to find a formula you can withstand. Your mortal blood is far too thin for our alcoholic accomplishments.”
“Rude.” You muttered, gobbling bread.
*****
“Which do you think?” Loki asked from in front of the full length mirror, holding up two sets of his horns. “The full helmet, or the hollow top?”
“Perhaps we should avoid wearing anything that could be considered martial in nature?” Thor suggested, sounding terribly bored.
“Hm, you think so? Well, I do have a set that more of a coronet-”
“Just braid your hair and be done with it, you insufferable dandy!”
“You can't call me a dandy!” Loki huffed. “You have beads in your beard.”
“They hold the braid in place, and they make me look dashing.” Thor preened.
“They make you look like a barbarian.”
“You are simply envious that I have a beard to put beads in!”
“Oh yes, so greatly do I regret my inability to fully cultivate the 'filthy vagrant' look! Whatever shall I do, with only my impeccable fashion sense to back me up?”
The brothers bickered and debated every thing from armor, to accessories, to footwear, eventually settling down so that Thor could wind green ribbons into his brother's hair.
You had been provided with a weeks worth of dresses, each finer than anything you had ever worn. You had never even imagined your wedding dress-if you ever got to have a wedding-would be of such high quality. Gratifyingly, you could tell that some of them were older, altered pieces, which you tended to prefer for practicality's sake. Even more gratifying: they weren't all green.
You, and Saldis, and Brunnhilde, and Borgliot had all been gathered in the King's chambers very early in the morning-or very late at night, with the sun misbehaving so, it was impossible for you to tell anymore-to prepare for your journey to the city. The king had said that it would take the better part of a day on horseback, and that the trial would likely not last long, as the defendant had pleaded guilty, with no remorse at all for his crimes.
Reservations had been made for a weeks worth of time, and Loki promised you that, whatever moments were spent outside the trial, you could chose to spend however you wished. Saldis would be coming along, for she spoke Icelandic as well as English, and could read it too; she would be there to translate things for you during those times that Loki had to be parted from you, and she was to see to your care and attire. She bubbled with an excitement you thought it was far too early-or late-for, showing you the intricacies of wearing a snake-shaped pen-annular brooch that twisted and turned in your hands like the very reptile it resembled.
“How...again?” You asked, unable for the life of you, to get the long pin in the right place. You'd been gifted a gorgeous deep blue cloak that was sure to keep you warm; Loki had been very solemn and proud to wrap it around your shoulders, but he hadn't bothered showing you how the pin worked when he'd handed it over.
“Just like this, my Seidkona.” Saldis said, fastening the brooch with a quick movement. It looked so simple when she did it.
You sighed. “I feel like a child.” You complained. “Can't even dress myself.”
“High class clothing is complex.” Saldis explained. “Most nobles cannot dress themselves.”
“Besides, you kinda look like a child too.” Brunnhilde said, offhandedly, as she twisted her braided hair into a tidy topknot. “Mortals are all pretty small, but your little body, on that little horse...you're going to look like an elf.” At your crestfallen expression, she hastened to add. “But that's fine. Elves are considered lucky. All of the shorter Asgardians you see have Alfar in their backgrounds.”
All of the shorter Asgardians were still half a foot taller than you. Being short wasn't something you'd ever really noticed, before coming here. Among other humans, height variance felt far less pronounced.
“Methinks thou hast 'hashed it', my general.” Borgljot jested. “Our dear mortal is surely no child.”
You caught her gazing appreciatively at the way the diagonal elements in your clothes flattered your figure, and you grew a little warm. You hadn't been awake long enough to be able to appreciate flirting from anyone, let alone a six-foot-three warrior woman from space.
Brunnhilde nudged her sharply. “Mind your manners.”
“She is not incorrect.” Loki called from near the mirror. “I happen to know that my Seidkona is very much a woman.”
You took in a deep breath, but decided not to tell him off in front of everyone. Later. Borgliot's impudent grin faltered as she glanced from the prince, to you, to Brunnhilde, who simply gave her a very pointed look. Her face fell, and she said nothing else.
Loki came to guide you to the horses, while Saldis gathered your luggage. Thor had convinced him to wear no armor at all; instead he had girded himself in an intricately beaded tunic made of velvet so plush that your hands itched to touch it, and trousers so well-tailored that your eyes simultaneously screamed to keep looking and to turn away. It was practically scandalous, and you were embarrassed by how intriguing you found just this one set of clothes.
Thor was also resplendent in his finery, with his doublet and red cloak, and shining buttons, his ribboned hair an opposite color match for his brother. It was a nice touch, in lieu of crowns.
In fact, the entire entourage was absolutely majestic, and you felt like a dog someone had dressed up in a matching costume. Your clothes were right, but you were out of place.
Maybe it was just the apprehension you still felt towards seeing your would-be murderer again, or towards being in a court of law. Being out among humankind again, knowing that some of them saw you as a traitor to your species.
“Would you like to ride the same horse as before?” Loki asked you, as the stablehands led Leynarodd out to him. You nodded. Technically, that horse deserved justice as well.
A loud and happy whicker caught your attention and you glanced around in search of the animal that could have made the sound.
“Who was that?” You asked. It wasn't Leynarodd, who was contentedly munching the apple Loki had offered her, and it certainly wasn't the shaggy, placid little beast that had been brought to you.
“Oh, that was the other horse I rescued from Ragnarok.” Loki said with a little smile, stroking Leynarodd's broad forehead.
The thumping of hooves grew, odd-sounding, almost like striking iron. The animal that approached was enormous; bigger than Leynarodd, bigger than any horse ever was or could be. He was shining silver-gray, ribbons and bells in his mane and tail. Thor perched atop his back like a scene out of legend, and, if all eight hooves striking the ground with the sound of metal were any indication, that's exactly what this was.
“Is...is that...?” You breathed out in awe. This creature was equal parts beautiful and terrifying, his perfection and wrongness impressed into your mind. It occurred to you that no one had ever said animals could not be gods as well.
“It is.” Loki said proudly. “Saddle up, my dear. Not all of us can keep Sleipnir's speed, and we have a long ride ahead of us.”
You mounted your sweet, small horse, who seemed not at all perturbed by the legendary beasts she was expected to travel with. Perhaps you ought to try to be more like her.
“Can you tell me this girls name?” You asked.
“Believe that one's Acorn.”
“Acorn?” The horse's ears perked, and you hugged her neck. “Oh, that's so cute!”
“And somewhat ironic, considering there are no oak trees here, so she's likely never seen one. Onward! The day is young.”
The procession wended slowly through the streets, the people gathering to solemnly wish you all well. This was not a situation that called for celebration; instead, the people waved squares of gray cloth, and played slow drum beats on the corners.
“It's to symbolize that we are going to a battle who's outcome is uncertain.” Loki explained. “Legal battles should be able to go either way, in the nature of fairness. But we know how this will end, if not all the details.”
The drums faded behind you as you reached the edge of the city, replaced by a slightly different sound; that of chanting. Angry chanting.
Past the gate, past the increased number of einherjar, blocking the road out, was a crowd of people, chanting louder and louder at the approach of your little cavalcade. Most of them were carrying signs, and too many of those had your face on them.
Dread rolled down your bones. Was there any possibility they were there in support? The red slashes you saw through your own face put those hopes to rest.
What had you done to deserve this?
It looked as though Loki was suffering the same treatment, with signs and chants, but aside from a slight scowl, he showed no signs of acknowledging the hostile crowd. Trying to take a page from his book, you turned away from the people, and fixed your eyes on Leynarodd instead.
Beautiful, shining Leynarodd, and her beautiful, statuesque rider. Just stay next to them, and you would be safe.
Someone broke free of the chanting ranks, darted into the procession, and grabbed you by the hand. You turned to look down into possibly the least expected-and least welcome of faces.
“Todd?” You squeaked, disbelieving. He couldn't be here. You didn't want him here! You hadn't seen him in over a year, and there was a good reason for that!
“_____, baby, I'm so glad I found you!” Todd exclaimed, as the horses came to a halt. He gestured at the einherjar currently closing the gate. “These clowns wouldn't let anyone into the city, even though I told them about us.”
You yanked your hand out of his. “There's no us, Todd. What the hell are you doing here? How did you even get here?”
The huge head of Sleipnir shoved between the two of you causing the ruckus from the crowd to calm in awe of his presence.
“What the hell? The fuck is wrong with that horse?” Todd nearly shouted.
“He's probably a little peckish.” Thor said dryly. “Oh, you mean the legs, of course you mean the legs, everyone means the legs. It's simple really. It's because he's twice the horse you'll ever be.”
“I...what...” Todd stammered. Loki reached down and placed his hand firmly on your shoulder, either comforting you, or holding you in place so that you could not hop off your little horse and run off with Todd. Little did he know that nothing was further from your mind.
“Forgive me, where are my manners?” Thor said. “I am Thor, king of Asgard, Avenger and defender of Earth. And you are?”
“Uh, Todd Emmerst, sir, your Majesty. Big fan of your work, sir. You see, I've come all the way from Iowa to see _____ again. Now, I don't know the whole story about why she's here, but everyone back home misses her a lot, especially me. I gotta ask; do you really need to keep her? I miss her so much, is there any way you could make it so you could give me my girl back?”
You rolled your eyes. “I'm not your girl, Todd!” You snapped. “The only thing I am of yours is your ex!”
Thor glanced at you, then back. “It appears there is some discrepancy.”
“We had a disagreement.” Todd said. “She was taken away before we got the chance to make up.”
“Did I take you away from him?” Loki asked in a low whisper. “You never mentioned anyone.”
“He's not my boyfriend.” You hissed. “And I never wanted to see him again! He's a total jerk!” He was exactly what you didn't need today, or any day. “Make him go away!”
Loki's prefect eyebrows scaled his forehead. “If my Seidkona commands it.” He said, a wicked grin growing. You barely noticed a little twiddle of his fingers before the crowd started screaming.
With Sleipnir's enormous bulk between you and everything else, you couldn't see what had set them off, but if the shrieks of “Snake!” were any indication, you could certainly guess.
“Everyone get to a safe distance!” Thor shouted, and the crowd obeyed, opening up enough for the procession to pass.
“You know, Brother...” Thor said, when you were all far enough away not to be overheard. “You have been here long enough to be aware that there are no snakes in Iceland.”
“Oh, I am.” Loki said, oh-so smugly proud of himself. “But they clearly aren't.”
“They nearly trampled that man.”
“Oh, that's too bad. Nearly? I shall have to try harder next time.”
“Loki!” Thor scolded.
“I asked him to.” You piped up. “Todd can hold up a debate for hours. He would have tied us up all morning. So I asked him to hurry things along.”
“My Seidkona demanded it of me, and I was helpless under the power of her voice.” Loki said, and your face burned.
“You really dislike him?” Saldis asked. “He seemed pleasant.”
“Oh yeah, he always does when he's in public.” You said hotly. “Then you're left to wonder what happened to that guy when you get home. Why he's like this behind closed doors, why he gets so controlling and insulting when no one else can see him. Or worse, if it's all in your head, if you're really just making it all up, or if it's just you. Yeah, no thanks. Not going back to that.”
“He sounds exceptionally huglausi to me.” Loki huffed. Borgliot murmured her agreement. “And you wanted to scold me.”
“He is behind us now, and will remain that way.” Thor said. “Hopefully that will be the last interruption for the day. We have reservations to meet.”

But yah rey as a character is just so frustrating you know? Cause like, yeah sure she could be complex with a powerful arc where shes forced to come to terms with the fact she wasted years of her life on self-imposed delusions in a cathartic way, or she could be a flat piece of marketing cardboard which Disney is banking on vagina+superpowers=profit without having to go through that persnicty character flaw overcoming or the like. Because like you said, hearing shes a nobody (which ngl, her assuming she was a somebody wasn’t really ever supported in tfa, just that her family was coming back and she desperately wanted them to) is apparently the worst thing but it changes absolutely nothing, not her approach, not her demeanor , if vaguely sad is the absolute worse a character is gonna experience in a goddamn space opera then yeah, full offense ill take the l on Mary sue discourse but her character will definitely be a boring ass wash. We all make fun of whiny new hope Luke but him being a kinda nuisance to both the audience and those around him is what made is transformation into full blown Jedi knight so powerful. With Rey so far what weve got is badass perfect cinnamon roll finally get her due as such, which is clearly working for some people, but I fail to see how that isn’t spectacularly tone deaf to make a protag in this genre such. Operas about drama, not patting you on the back. Rey (assuming she remains as is) would’ve been fine as a protag s the only piece of Star Wars media we ever got was a new hope. But rn she a chosen one architype (and I know that bunch of ppl are gonna go but the series ‘but shes not the chosen one, Anakin still is, the new series isn’t trying to make her one!’ but lets not beat around the burning bush, if u got a character that walks on water and the reason why is because god said so, ur dealing with a chosen one trope and if a character is star wars is made ultrapowerful in lore breaking ways because force said so? Yeah were dealing with a chosen one.) when we had both the deconstruction and the reconstruction done. Shes a straight hero when the success of the ot rest on hitting the formula near perfect the first time. What exactly is Rey, the individual character, bringing to the table? What makes her story supposedly so important the a perfectly good ending had to be made invalid to tell it? A bunch of ppl will say heroines’ journey! But if that’s the case I gotta say, wheres all the feminine shit? Im serious, if the heroines journey is reintegrating the feminine and realizing ‘oh shit mom had a point’ there where is both the feminine skills/coping mechanism and the mom? I mean I saw some ppl arguing for leia in a ‘reys Persephone!’ meta (she isn’t, you can make a much better case for ben himself as Persephone to be quite frank, yall are focusing so much on the trees ((girl gets abducted by guy)) that u forgot the forest existed, the actually story ((girl winds up queen on the underworld, well gee whiz which character just took control of that after leaving the world of living and a grieving divine mother behind, it’s a mystery apparently) behind, it’s a mystery apparently) ((but seriously though even if we hope for dark rey does anyone assume its gonna be taking control of a dark/dead coded org at least partially at this point, do you, do you really??). but given the fact she had what, one line of screen dialogue that’s breaking ur arm with that stretch. As far as skills go I guess you could make an argument for scavenging, but if that’s the case dlf did a shit job of conveying that as female-coded. Everything about rey in tfa seems deliberately androgynous, and yeah, she had her hair let down/mascara moment, but that’s tied to her ‘failure’ on the supremacy thus something nw.SPEAKIGN OF FAILURES ON THE SUPERAMCY AND LACK THERE OF. I find it kind funny that bunch of reylo bnfs (you know who they are) are all ‘hur dur fanboys/antis are dumb and don’t get story structure.’ And then going, ‘why are yall asking how/assuming rey fucked up in throne room/climax of her story in the second portion/darkest point of her character arc? Why do you hate women/ur own ovaries so much?’ because it like walking into a prefurnished house and being told by the relator ‘HERES THE LIVING ROOM’ and having no damn couch. It’s a living room, I expect a couch here. And in a movie where it’s the low point of a character arc and they drag puppet yoda out to tell me the movie is about failure, I expect a damn failure in whats clearly the climax of the characters arc for this movie. As it stands now there are three possibilities imo. 1st, rey had no failure, she is the pure badass maid o light ppl want and every inch the boring cardboard she is accused of by fanbros, remains static, and is relegated to an also ran to benlo taking the most compelling character trophy this trilogy in 10 yrs2nd possibility and the one im hoping for, failure speech wasn’t just thematic explanation but also foreshadowing, rey fucks up big and dramatic in a way that makes her manage to stand out as unique with both her contemporaries and her predecessors(last part, if its ever to much lemme know pls im sorry i just gotta get it out) 3rd and most likely possibility, rey isn’t the main character, benlo is and that’s why his failure both moral in the throne room and logistic on criat take center stage for the last third or so of the movie. Rey is merely a pov character to tell the dramatic villain protag story they wanted and have their very marketable unproblematic Disney heroine cake too.
Ok, so this discourse kinda died down by now, but thanks to that it’s possible to maybe have a calmer look at it I’m totally not trying to justify my late response.
Anyway, the good result is that quite recently my brother, who’s not overly taken with Rey - or the sequels in general, for that matter - said something which really stuck with me as a possible crux of the problem:
She’s neither comical nor tragical. Just bland.
This neither comical nor tragical really struck me. And the more I though about it, the more it was appearing to me that this qualm really applies to the sequels as a whole. The thing is that DLF are essentially telling a straightforward story that they’re trying to make captivatingly convoluted. And not just make, but keep this appearance over four years. And this is... a narrative teeth crasher. Like, when you’re honest about the endgame (in the context of the most structural meanings of comedy and tragedy), you can maintain a decorum, though you can also play with it, of course, whereas when you don’t want to be honest about the endgame, you end up mixing the styles somewhat messily. You can’t break or discuss with the rules without acknowledging them, so to speak. Because the originals were honest about the happy/hopeful endgame (the first episode is title A New Hope ffs), they could allow themselves deeply tragic moments like Larses’ deaths, Han getting frozen, destruction of Alderaan, etc. Because the prequels were open about being a tragedy, they could allow themselves lighthearted comic relief for the sake of lighthearted comic relief.
The sequels... badly want us to consider the possibility of FO winning and Ben dying unredeemed while simultaneously insisting we root for those things not happening, while appearing conscious we’re definitely not buying the former and the latter only somewhat. And it’s tiresome. Dishonest. And indeed, bland. If the story is a tragedy it will be a bloodcurdlingly real one, if it’s a comedy it will be a borderline grotesque one.
But yeah, returning to Rey, I guess as the main character she’s a lens which focuses the above problems. A very bitter tragedy of what her parents did t her prevents her from being comfortably comical whereas whoohooos I like thats and prancing like a husky on red bull over idols and visions because it’s for children so it must be hopeful prevents her from being intriguingly tragical. So I guess the intentioned effect was tragicomism but, from pov of an engaged casual fan that is my bro, it’s neither.
As far as Rey’s heroine’s journey lacking some of the usual elements, I blame it on Disney being... a bit too ambitious, maybe. I think they tried to make a heroine’s journey that isn’t ostentaciously seeped in traditional feminine/masculine traits, maintains the structure without what could be called accidentals. On the one hand, I would point out that hero’s journey has pretty much desexualised itself over time, we are rather accustomed to “shero’s” journeys, but on the other... maybe Disney set out on a too novel a territory and may crack their teeth on it, alongside trying to out-Vader Vader at redemption. To elucidate, “toxic femininity” in which a heroine is supposed to find herself in the beginning of her journey, in Rey’s case is uprooted from any of our usual concepts of feminine-masculine social roles (it’s space, duh). My interpretation is that Rey’s version of toxic femininity kind of exists in contrast with Kylo Ben’s version of toxic masculinity - and since the apparent focus of the story is the attitude towards the past/parent figures, toxic femininity would mean her clutching onto the past. Which is why I predict that some act of IX will find Rey inebriated with apparent success in masculine world, meaning she’ll be the one rejecting the old gods this time - and I would point out that panel in Poe comic where she shows herself more sceptical towards idolisation of past don’t mind me, I’m just expressingmy trash dreams for a proper sith lady Rey.
Then again, Rian Johnson said she already found perfect balance between Luke’s clinginess and Kylo’s rejection of the past, so... idk, maybe I’m giving DLF too much credit again.
As for the Persephone thing, I guess the rub is that this reylo reading focuses less on the traditional reading of the myth (where Demeter is the actual main character and Kore is a Princess Peach MacGuffin) and more of an interpretation of it as one of the eldest (at least in Europe) versions of story depicting a transition of a girl into a woman, making Persephone more of a protagonist.
Like, y’know, this Persephone (D. G. Rosetti, source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proserpine_(Rossetti_painting))
I’m no expert, but myths can lose their original meanings because of power relations (anyone still remember about Dionysus, the god associated with excessive drinking, going through a very Christ-like death and resurrection?) and I think it’s possible that this is the case with the story of Persephone becoming a pre-scientific explanation of seasons changing over the year. So teah, that’s how I always understood the Persephone theme regarding Rey.
But yes, I must agree that I’m confused about Disney’s handling of the mother figure, which... Look, SW became a legend of a modern myth because of how epically Lucas handled the hero dealing with his very explicit father. So yes, I don’t understand what exactly is their game with Rey Nobody from Nowhere in this regard. It’s one thing that they had a cool idea with giving her no lineage, another that parent figures are an essential element of archetypal journeys and from symbolic viewpoint the case of a female character the biological relationship is even more crucial than in male’s. And I swear to all the ewoks and porgs in the galaxy, I do hope Disney’s idea of Rey healing the mother/daughter divide isn’t through her healing the divide between Leia and Ben. Again, this isn’t the idealistic sphere. Just... no.
Anyway, I still maintain hope (this whole meta blog is built on hope) that Rey will indeed turn out to have a proper personal mistake which will make her stand out in the saga. I do have to admit, though, that I find your last theory very likely. I mean, even when I read all the reylo metas going oh, Rey is going to have such an exciting arc in IX, she has so much to deal with though of course it’s not going to compromise her morally, it will be sooo exciting, I just... f*ck’s sake, what you’re describing isn’t a dramatic character only a dramatised role model. It’s great if that’s your thing, but don’t claim it is space opera-worthy, in operas people drown themselves because of cursed sailors, kill over a break up, decapitate over a bad dream and get dragged to hell over a dinner, not persuade their fallen lovers to change their ways, let alone patienly wait for them the understand the error of their ways (and if they do it’s doomed to end in someone dying).

***********************
Crunch. Chomp. Smack.
With each noisy bite, more red streamed down his face, coating his jaw and dripping down onto his dirty mangled shirt. He chewed up the massive bite in his mouth, allowing the liquid to flow freely over his form before finally swallowing. He leaned back over his prize and was about to take another messy bite, when a slight creak behind him made him freeze.
“And just what do you think you’re doing, young man?”
Virgil slowly turned around, the warm thick liquid now dripping down his arms. A hot shame flashed through his face, embarrassed for himself at being caught.
There in the doorway to the back porch was Logan, his brow creased in stern disapproval.
Virgil nervously gulped, swallowing down the juice still in his mouth before trying to find his voice.
“I-I-..I was, was just, just trying to…to, uh…I was just, just…isn’t this a little early for you to get home?”
Logan allowed a small smirk to show on his face. “Yes, but school let out early today since it’s a holiday weekend. Now, would you care to explain why you’re covered in giant cherry juice?”
Virgil’s embarrassed blush deepened, almost starting to blend in with the red juice staining his face and clothes. “I was…I…”
After a few false starts, he finally sighed in defeat as his slouch deepened. It was ironic, really, how small his Papa could make him feel, even if he was almost twice as tall as him at full height.
“I wanted to make the blood for my costume look more authentic, and when I remembered what happened the last time Dad cut open a raw cherry, I…I figured he wouldn’t mind if I…I borrowed just one of them. I mean, you remember how long those stains lasted, even after Dad tried wiping himself down. I figured it would really sell the look. Plus, as long as he didn’t know, I figured he…he wouldn’t miss just one.”
Logan hummed in response, looking his son over. Finally, he reached behind himself and pulled out a towel, which he handed up to Virgil.
“Regardless of the fact that you do look rather terrifying with all that red dripping off your mouth, especially in conjunction with the use of these old tattered clothes you’re wearing, your Father and I have both expressed how important it is to follow our rules, especially in regards to the garden. Might I remind you what happened the last time you took something from there without permission?”
Virgil paused briefly before resuming wiping himself off, the flash of remembrance bringing up all the old memories. He could remember very well the taste of that massive orange the size of a basketball. How delicious it had been, how quickly it seemed to fill him up with its juices, and how that filling-up feeling had kept getting stronger and stronger as he outgrew his clothes and doubled in height.
And after that, all the memories of having to go to school as a freak of nature, permanently transformed because he broke his dad’s rules and had ended up getting dosed with his parents’ secret experimental growth formula designed to help grow larger, stronger sources of food for distribution in impoverished countries. The stares, the fearful murmurs, the endless teasing from the bullies who, even if he was big enough and strong enough to fight them off, he was too afraid of his own size and power to confront them.
Luckily for him, the year after that his dads had let him switch schools, which had allowed him to meet his new friends Roman Alteza and Thomas Sanders. They didn’t care that Virgil was a giant. They just liked this quiet but caring, if slightly intimidating, boy who was snarky and fun and willing to help out when something got stuck in a tree. Not to mention he was pretty good at getting Roman’s weird twin Remus and Thomas’ bratty cousin Daemon to leave them alone with his slightly threatening quips, once his new friends managed to help bring him out of his shell.
Virgil couldn’t help but smile at the recollections, but Logan’s lecturing tone as he continued brought him back to the present.
“Considering your current status, I would assume that you would have been more anxious about taking another sample from our experiments. We still have no way to reverse the formula’s effects, and even if we’ve managed to mostly work out the side effects from consumption of the fruit, there’s still the possibility of another reaction, especially for someone who’s already been dosed with the formula.”
Virgil hung his head, shame welling up inside him at his foolishness as he lowered himself down to sit on the porch.
“I’m sorry, Papa. I guess I just got so excited at the idea that I forgot about the consequences.”
Logan sighed, but reached out to take the towel from Virgil’s hand. While his long and lanky stature meant that he was quite a bit taller than the average man, he was barely taller than his son’s seated form. In truth, his son’s condition was just as much his and Patton’s fault as it was Virgil’s. After all, had they not been more careful about keeping their experiments protected, Virgil would not have even managed to get a hold of the altered orange.
With these thoughts in mind, he picked up rubbing off the excess juice from his son’s face where Virgil had left off, reaching out to grasp his shoulder with his other hand.
“Well, it would seem that there were no additional side effects from your consumption. And considering your previous record of exemplary behavior, I believe we can forego the need for a punishment for tonight.”
Virgil’s head shot up in excitement. “You mean, I can still go out with Roman and Thomas tonight?”
Logan nodded his head. “So long as you make sure to be home by ten.”
Virgil frowned. “But my usual curfew for weekends is–”
He came up short at Logan’s raised eyebrow, and immediately backpedaled. “Home by ten, got it.”
No sooner had Logan finished wiping off the remaining drips, a call from behind them announced Roman and Thomas’ arrival. Roman was decked out in a full-on classic Dracula get-up, complete with flowing cape and high collar. Thomas’ werewolf costume, by comparison, was much less intimidating, giving off more of a human-dog hybrid feel than that of a monstrous nightmare creature seeking human flesh.
“Hi Mr. Logan,” Thomas called as they came up to the porch.
“Greetings, Thomas. You are looking exceptional.” Thomas blushed but gave his thanks.
“Hey, Mama Lo,” Roman greeted, a playful smirk on his face.
Logan frowned slightly. “I believe I have mentioned my feelings toward that nickname more than a few times, Roman.”
“Ah, come on, Mr. Berry. You know how much you love it.” Roman looked as if he would have gladly kept on needling Logan, but the slightest increase in the crease of his brow told him it was best not to continue.
“So, are we ready?” Thomas asked after a brief awkward moment.
“Yeah, I think so,” Virgil replied, looking to his Papa for confirmation.
Logan smiled. “Yes, I believe you are. Remember, be home by ten. Otherwise, do have a good time tonight.”
Virgil smiled and pulled his Papa in for a hug. “Love you, Papa.”
“Love you too, son,” Logan answered as they pulled apart, Logan beaming at his son. Virgil smiled back and got to his feet, turning to join his two friends as they headed back to the rear gate they had first come through.
“Just remember to try and bring some of the candy back tonight. Just because you can eat eight times as much as the other boys doesn’t mean you should.”
“Okay, Pops,” Virgil called back as he carefully stepped over the fence into the back alley behind their home.
Just as Virgil turned to follow Roman and Thomas down the block, Logan heard the back door open and close behind him.
“Oh no, did I miss him? I wanted to wish him well before he headed out for the night.”
Logan turned to look down at his husband. Patton’s short, squat form was slumped slightly in disappointment. Logan wrapped his arm around the shorter man’s shoulders, pressing a kiss into his hair.
“I’m sure he’ll be fine. I’ve told him to be back by ten, so I’m certain you’ll still be able to see him tonight.”
Patton frowned up at Logan. “Ten? But didn’t we agree he could stay out later on weekends?”
“Yes, but I felt it prudent to pull back on that for tonight, considering the fact that he got hold of one of the new cherries.”
Patton paled at that. “What?! Is he okay? Did it do anything to him? Do we need to–”
It took a few moments to get Patton to calm down enough for Logan to explain what had happened. Once he did, he allowed Patton to rant out his feelings, from relief that nothing else had happened to Virgil because of their formula, to anger at Virgil’s poor decision, to the exuberant joy at having finally managed to get the formula to stop affecting humans when consumed via the fruit. By the time Patton had tired himself out, the sun had fully set, and the two were seated together on the back porch swing, lazily rocking back and forth and staring up at the stars.
“Logan,” Patton suddenly asked, “do you think we’re bad parents? I mean, Virgil wouldn’t be stuck like this if we had done a better job of taking care of him.”
Logan didn’t respond. He thought back to his own ruminations on that subject from earlier. But then he remembered all the times they’d had this conversation in the past, both with each other and with the counselor they’d sought out after the original incident.
“We’re not perfect,” he finally replied, but quickly continued when he felt Patton deflate slightly beside him. “But just because he’s not completely normal doesn’t mean we failed him. We’ve taught him what’s most important in life: to be kind and generous, loving and helpful. To be a good person and to take care of himself and others.
“Even if he’s a bit bigger than normal, it’s not the size of his body that’s going to really matter. It’s the size of his heart, and his is the biggest I’ve ever seen, except for maybe yours, mon couer.”
Patton giggled slightly at the old nickname and leaned up to meet Logan’s lips in a loving kiss.
The two would have probably gone on like that for some time, had a series of shrieking laughs not broken them out of their reverie. Looking down to the end of the alley, they could just barely make out a group of kids running down the alley from a towering zombie with dyed purple hair. Virgil was doing his best to keep up the act, but he couldn’t help but break character briefly to wave at his dads as he passed, Thomas and Roman jogging behind him to keep up.
Logan chuckled lightly at their son’s antics. “No matter what happens, I’m sure our boy is going to be just fine.”
Patton nodded in agreement, leaning his head into his husband’s chest as they resumed staring up at the stars. Logan was right. They weren’t perfect parents. But they had loved their son so much, and would always do so. And they knew they didn’t have to be perfect to know they had raised a son who was doing his best and who loved them just as much.
And if Virgil coming home on time that night and kneeling down to give his dads a big, strong hug before bed wasn’t proof of that, then they didn’t know what was.

Tea for Three?
Part 3 of the Better Living Through Chemistry series
Grimmjow was a surprisingly good companion—Ichigo refused to call him a date, no matter what Nelliel said—the only problem was his enthusiasm.
And his ego.
Oh, and don’t forget the fact that he constantly forgot they were surrounded by humans.
Okay, he was a horrible date, but it was still good to not be the only one in the audience looking at the kickboxing “experts” and thinking they’d last about a minute and a half in a real fight.
“Sit down, you idiot,” Ichigo hissed, for what seemed like the fiftieth time. “I told you, they don’t take challengers. Anyway, you’re in a fucking gigai. What makes you think you could take them anyway?”
Grimmjow growled and dropped back onto the bench. “I could take that asshole in the black with my teeth. I can smell his fear from here.” He pulled his lips back in a feral grin and Ichigo had to admit, they were impressive teeth for a gigai. Kisuke’d even let him keep the almost-fangs. “Everything he does is for show and then he runs away where the other guy can’t hit him. Fucking coward.”
Ichigo made a noise that could have been agreement. “The guy in white has great range, though. I thought he was going to pull the guy over completely when he grabbed that last kick. Good leverage.”
Grimmjow grunted. “Should’ve just broken his ankle. Gloves are for weaklings.”
Ichigo didn’t argue.
They sat like that, alternating between hunched forward staring intently and throwing themselves back in their seats in frustration as the fights went on, until neither of them could stand it anymore.
“Race you to the training grounds at the shōten.”
The almost-fangs shone in a blood-thirsty answer. “Thought you’d never ask.”
***
They trash talked as they raced through the streets of Karakura and Ichigo had to fight Zangetsu down more than once, his inner hollow feeding on the aggression.
“Aw, is the Baby Hollow giving you a hard time, Kurosaki?” Grimmjow laughed at the glimmer of gold that Ichigo knew was edging the brown of his eyes.
“Fuck you, Grimm,” he said, tripping the taller man as they turned the last corner before the straightaway towards the shōten. “Zan would wipe the floor with you, gigai or not.”
He could hear the crazy laugh in his inner world and growled internally. Don’t get any ideas. Grimm is MY fight.
Zangetsu giggled again. Sure, King. Fight. Right. Say it a little louder and maybe you’ll believe that’s all he is.
Ichigo frowned and ignored the taunt. Zan had jabbed at him more than once about the time he spent with Grimmjow, whether they were arguing or sparring or trying to sort out what exactly was going to happen now that Aizen wasn’t running Hueco Mundo. If he didn’t know better, he’d say the white bastard was jealous. And Kisuke was no help. He just smiled and said that it made sense for Zan to want to prove his dominance over the nearest hollow, and if Ichigo was going to continue spending time with Grimmjow, he should either get used to his inner world being a constant snarkfest, or give in and let Zan have it out with Grimm once and for all.
That sounded like a recipe for disaster of absolutely Kisuke proportions.
“Cheating bastard.” Grimmjow laughed and scrambled to his feet so fast it was as if he’d never lost his balance. “Didn’t think you had it in you, Kurosaki.”
“You have no idea what I have in me,” Ichigo said, throwing himself forward at full speed. Even in his human form he could feel his reiatsu humming along his skin, and he couldn’t wait to hit the training ground to beat Grimmjow and Zangetsu both back into line.
They hit the door of the shōten at almost the same time, but Ichigo had the edge of familiarity and he had the door in his hand before Grimmjow could grab it. “Beat you, Grimm.”
Grimmjow snorted and leaned against the wall, the only sign of their hell-for-leather race being his breathing a little more heavily than usual. “What was that? You wanted to use all that practice you’ve gotten beating off, eh, Kurosaki? Why didn’t you just say so? Didn’t have to…”
“Shut it, asshole,” Ichigo slammed the door, just missing Grimmjow’s foot, “save it for downstairs.”
Just then Kisuke wandered out of his lab, hair mussed like he’d been running his fingers through it. “Grimmjow-san! Ichigo-kun! Welcome back! I didn’t expect to see you so early. I take it the kickboxing tournament failed to hold your attentions?”
Grimmjow pushed off the wall and sauntered across the room. “Tournament? Bunch of losers you mean. One adjuchas could’ve kicked all ten of their asses, and then eaten the damn trophy at the end. Right, Kurosaki?”
Ichigo hated to agree with him, but he wasn’t wrong.
“Yeah. It was a little frustrating, honestly. Too much padding. Too many rules. Made us want a real fight. I thought we’d use the training ground and burn off some steam before Grimm headed back to Hueco Mundo.”
Kisuke looked from one to the other and then shook his head a little apologetically. “Oh, but Ichigo-kun, don’t you remember? The experiment I’ve been working on is finally ready, and you promised to help me test it this evening. I’d say that it could wait, but unfortunately the compounds in this batch are quite volatile.”
Ichigo groaned. Right now, the last thing he wanted was to do another one of Kisuke’s tea drugging experiments, but he couldn’t back out. Kisuke’d been working on this one for three weeks.
“I’d totally forgotten. Crap. Sorry Grimm, but I’m going to have to take a raincheck on the fight.”
Grimmjow wasn’t having it. “What the fuck is so important that it can’t wait until I’ve kicked your ass around a little? We weren’t even going to be back for another hour, and it won’t take me that long to beat you into a bloody pulp. Then the mad scientist over here can use what’s left for his experiments. Win/win. Everybody’s happy.”
Zangetsu hissed in the corner of his brain. Let me kick his big blue ass, King. I’ll take him apart until he’s nothing but little pieces that Kisuke can let Benihime practice sewing on. Fucking prick. All talk. Let’s fuck him up so badly that you’ll have to throw him through the garganta back to Hueco Mundo.
Ichigo knew from the look on Kisuke’s face that Zan had taken enough of a hold on him that his eyes were bleeding to gold. Fuck, this wasn’t what he’d planned for this evening.
“Grimmjow-san, I am sorry to say that the bloody pulp would not be sufficient for my experiments,” Kisuke gave a little bow, “although I appreciate your willingness to adapt your plans to suit mine. For this experiment, though, I need Ichigo-kun at his strongest. He will have to be to deal with the effects of the tea.”
A blue eyebrow rose. “Tea?” The disbelief was palpable. “Is this one of those tea drugging things Kurosaki was whining about a couple weeks ago? I mean what? You made him throw up for a couple hours. Surely that isn’t something that he’d have to be in top form. Or are you going to actually poison him for real this time?”
Ichigo shoved him. Hard. The bastard barely moved, though, and that just pissed him off more. “If Kisuke says I have to be in top form, then I have to be in top form. You’re just lucky you’re not the one getting dosed. You’d probably be crying in a corner like a kitten when it was over. Asshole.”
Grimmjow stepped into him, forcing him to look up to meet his eyes. “Anything you can take, Kurosaki, I can take twice over. Fucking drugged tea. Give me a break. He’s probably going to dose you with a sleeping pill so he can finally have a quiet night without listening to you whine.”
Kisuke stepped forward. “Boys, boys, calm down.” He raised his hands placatingly. “I’d really rather not have to close the shop because you two ripped the displays apart. Again.”
The two of them separated looking a little sheepish. Well, Ichigo looked sheepish. Grimmjow just looked pissed.
“Grimmjow-san, coincidentally enough, you might find the experiment interesting after all. It was, in fact, designed to interact with Zangetsu-san, so it should, in fact, affect you as well.”
Broad shoulders rolled back at the challenge couched in Kisuke’s voice. “If the white punk could take it, then I can.”
Gray eyes turned to Ichigo and a blond brow rose in silent query. The penny dropped, and Ichigo remembered what Kisuke had told him about this particular experiment.
Hollows, no matter how evolved, whether they’re like Zangetsu-san or the Arrancar, are more driven by instinct than humans or Shinigami or Quincies. At the bottom of every interaction you will find one of the major impetuses—fight, flight, or, to be blunt, fuck. Most of them revert to flight. The stronger ones fight. Very few fuck. What if we could find a formula that would change that? It would be much easier to kill a hollow that’s trying to chase an orgasm than one that’s trying to kill you, ne?
At the time it had sounded impossible and insane, but honestly many of Kisuke’s best/worst ideas started that way. And now… he’d done it. Or he’d gotten close enough that he wanted to try it on Zan and he didn’t think it would do any lasting damage if it didn’t work.
Zan’s wild laughter had quieted, but the anger still simmered deep inside and Ichigo wondered what the hollow would be like if he was just horny instead of murderous all the time.
What would Grimmjow be like?
That was what Kisuke was asking, wasn’t it? Did Ichigo want to include Grimm in this mad trial? What would the brutal attention he brought to his fights be like if it was turned into sex? Did Ichigo want to bring that into their lives? Into their bedroom?
“Two test cases are always better data sources than one, Ichigo-kun.” A sly smirk spread across Kisuke’s face and Ichigo could feel a flush begin to crawl up his neck and across his cheekbones as his jeans became just a little tighter.
“Fuck it. Bring on the tea, Kisuke,” he said, flinging himself onto the cushions by the low table in the lounge. “First one to cry uncle loses.”
***
“Now, Grimmjow-san,” Kisuke had brewed two cups of his best matcha and set them in front of Ichigo along with two glass vials filled with dark amber liquid, “normally I wouldn’t inform you of the expected effects of one of my experiments due to the possibility that foreknowledge would skew your reactions, but because you are coming into this totally blind I find myself in a quandry. Most people would tell you I have no morals to speak of, and they’re typically correct, but I cannot in good faith let you take part in this without your understanding and consent.”
Grimmjow was shifting on his cushion clearly wanting to get to the next stage of the action, whatever that action was, but Ichigo couldn’t help but appreciate the fact that Kisuke was at least trying not to take advantage of the big idiot.
“Yeah, yeah, so what’s this going to do? Make me howl at the moon? I already do that sometimes, you know. Roar, not howl, but it’s pretty close.” He grinned, and Ichigo could just imagine him on the dunes of Hueco Mundo roaring into the night, all the other hollows running in fear from the sound.
“Yes, it isn’t quite that simple, Grimmjow-san.” Kisuke knelt in a graceful seiza and reached for one of the vials. “If I asked you what drives you, what would you say?”
It only took a second for him to answer. “The fight. Being the one that’s still standing. That’s what it all comes down to.”
“This,” Kisuke waggled the vial, “will change that. You’ll still have a drive, and it’ll ride you as hard as your desire to fight, but it won’t be the same. You may want to run—to flee from whatever you see as danger. You may want to fuck your way through it, to survive and thrive by spreading your seed as far and wide as you can. I don’t know. All I know is that while you’re under the effects of the formula, you *should* react differently than you normally do.”
Grimmjow made a sound in his throat like he had a hairball. “Flee my ass. I’ve never run from anything in my life and no fucking formula is going to change that. Fucking? I don’t care about that, but who’m I going to fuck? You? The Berry over here? If you’re saying I’m going to sit around with blue-er balls than usual, I’m going to reconsider this whole thing.”
Kisuke didn’t say anything, but Ichigo couldn’t help but shift his weight slightly and Grimmjow’s eyes widened a fraction when they landed on him. His face was red, he knew, but he wasn’t going to be the one to back out of this.
“Well, well, well,” Grimmjow said, his voice dropping a little lower, his eyes moving from blond to redhead and back again, “not the wrestling match I expected, but I’m game. Any other side-effects you want to mention before we get this show started?”
Kisuke shook his head and shifted until he could lounge more comfortably. “Well, there are always unforeseen side effects, but they should be minimal.”
Grimmjow looked back and forth between them once more and then took the vial and downed it before raising his cup of tea in a salute. “Good enough. If I end up bald or with an extra leg, I’ll just kill you tomorrow.”
“Fair enough,” Kisuke laughed and removed his hat back in a show of rare openness. “If that happens, you are more than welcome to try.”
Ichigo reached for his matcha and the other vial. “You’re lucky you’re not getting the pink spotted camouflage tea, Grimm. I should’ve gotten a medal for that one.” He slugged back his dose and made a face. It tasted terrible. Again.
“Pink spotted camouflage?” Grimmjow’s voice cracked and Ichigo thought he looked a little panicked at the idea. “What the actual fuck?”
“I don’t know, Grimm,” he said and settled back to sip his tea. “It’s Kisuke. What can you expect?”
***
Zangetsu was quiet, and it was making Ichigo nervous.
“Kisuke?” He looked across the table at the blond and sighed. They’d shifted from tea to sake, but he was still not feeling anything but a little warm around the edges. “I don’t think this is working. How certain are you about the formula’s projected outcome?”
Kisuke took a sip from his cup and very pointedly did not look at Grimmjow. “Oh, fairly certain, Ichigo-kun. I expect that you’ll be noticing something shortly.”
The Arrancar growled and sucked in a shaky sounding breath. “Yeah, I can pretty much guarantee that if the bleached bastard isn’t making noise in that noggin of yours, it isn’t because he isn’t feeling it.”
Ichigo couldn’t stop his smirk. “Does that mean you’re feeling something Grimm? Still want to see what Pantera looks like with a high-gloss coat of blood, or have you lost your taste for it?”
Grimmjow’s eyes narrowed and Ichigo could see his throat move in a convulsive swallow. “Not sure you want to tease, Kurosaki,” his voice sounded like it was being dragged across broken glass, “I may want to swing something other than a sword right now, but you covered in blood wouldn’t be a deal breaker.”
Ichigo’s throat worked on its own swallow at that.
Fuck yeah, Zan finally pushed through and Ichigo felt his breath catch at the overwhelming wave of awareness that came with him. Hold him down and lick him open. Stab his pretty hole with my tongue, stab him with my cock. Make him beg. Make him cry. Make him come all over himself. Pull his hair and fuck his mouth and stripe that face with come until he smells like me, tastes like me, aches for me… fuck, fuck, FUCK.
Ichigo must’ve made a noise because suddenly Kisuke’s eyes were focused on him, measuring. “Ichigo-kun? Everything okay?”
He was too far away. Ichigo couldn’t feel him. Couldn’t feel the warmth of his skin. Couldn’t smell the ink and sandalwood and sword oil that meant Kisuke.
“Finally hit ya, huh?” Grimmjow asked, tossing back the dregs of sake in his cup. “Wondered how long I’d have to wait.”
Ichigo turned to face the Arrancar and could see the wildness flickering in the depths of his gaze. His face burned because he knew what Zan was saying. What he was thinking.
“Kisuke?” He pried his gaze away from Grimmjow long enough to ask, “You still have the wards up on the bedroom?”
The blond was already half-way to his feet as he answered, “Yes.”
“Good,” he said, holding on to his control by a thread. “It’s time to move.” He bared his teeth and lunged at Grimmjow with a growl, sinking his teeth into the long tendon there that had been tempting him for longer than he wanted to admit. “Now.”
***
The futon was barely big enough for the three of them.
Kisuke had hesitated, standing to one side while his measured gaze following Ichigo and Grimmjow as they’d all but attacked each other, but Grimmjow stopped and reached out, his long fingers twisting in the front of his samue, pulling him inexorably closer.
“You don’t get off that easily,” he laughed, dark and suggestive, “or maybe you will, I don’t know. What does it take to get a mad scientist off, Kurosaki?”
Ichigo pried himself away from Grimmjow’s neck long enough to answer. “He likes it all, Grimm, but if you want to knock his geta off, rubbing his prostate while you’re sucking his cock as deep as possible usually works for me.”
Kisuke visibly shuddered at the words and Grimmjow and Ichigo shared a grin. “Can’t say I blame him. Nothing like a good face-fucking to get things started.”
Another time Ichigo might have snarked about how quickly Grimm went to his knees, but watching him strip Kisuke so efficiently, pulling his cock out and licking a strip from crown to balls and back again, drove everything from his head except, “Fuck, yeah. Just like that. Holy shit that looks amazing.”
Kisuke groaned along with him as he grabbed two handfuls of blue hair, jerking his hips forward just as Grimmjow wrapped his lips around him, the glistening tip of his prick disappearing and then reappearing with a lewdly wet pop. “It feels amazing as well, Ichigo-kun.” He pulled back and angled himself so that his next thrust slid his length along Grimmjow’s jaw, smooth in a gigai, but they were all thinking about the sharp edges of the bone mask that should’ve been there. Instead, there was a trail of pre-come tracing his jawline that made Ichigo itch to kiss it and taste the combination of slick and skin.
Kisuke reached down and stuck a thumb in the side of Grimmjow’s mouth, “I can’t wait to ruin this pretty mouth,” he said, pumping his cock in alongside it, the tips of his fingers pressing against the hinge of Grimmjow’s jaw holding it open as he fucked into it, “fill your mouth until you can’t breathe. Let those blue eyes beg enough and maybe I’ll let you.”
The tone, threatening enough that normally Grimmjow would be raring to strike out at anyone who dared to talk to him that way, was clearly pressing different buttons. His eyes fluttered closed and his tongue lolled out beneath Kisuke’s cock, drool leaking from the corners of his mouth.
Ichigo watched the scene unfold, Zan howling in the dark corners of his mind as he watched the two men, deadly and beautiful, and all he could hear was the drumbeat of mine, mine, mine, drowning out every other thought.
Grimmjow had worn regular human clothes for the tournament and the tight black trousers clearly showed the outline of his hard-on, huge and heavy, pressing against his zipper. Ichigo sucked a breath in through his mouth, the musk of Kisuke’s arousal and the heady scent of Grimmjow going straight to his head, and he knew had to see it, to touch it, to taste it.
“Shift your leg, Grimm,” he said, trying to pull the fabric down and out of the way without tangling Grimmjow’s legs up painfully. Finally he managed, and his mouth literally watered when he got his first glimpse of the Arrancar’s cock. A hot spurt of pre-come squirted out of his own, and he pressed a hand into it to try to minimize the wave of sensations that swamped him.
“Like what you’ve uncovered, Ichigo-kun?” Kisuke managed to sound mostly unmoved, but Ichigo could hear the hint of breathiness that was the first sign of his loss of control. He and Grimm may have been the ones dosed, but none of them were getting out of this unscathed. “He has an impressive cock, doesn’t he? I can’t wait to see it disappearing into your slick, stretched hole. Zangetsu-san will hate that, watching you allow another hollow to ride you, to fuck you…”
He swallowed the last word on a strangled groan as Grimmjow took him deep into his throat, and Ichigo could just imagine what that tight ring of muscle felt like, wrapped so tightly around him that it stroked him with every millimeter he moved.
The redhead couldn’t wait anymore. He stood and shucked his clothing, not caring where it landed, and he wrapped his hand around his own length, pumping it in counterpoint to Grimmjow’s movements. The blond watched him, eyes hooded, and Ichigo could see the wheels within wheels moving in his head.
“You should take care of our guest,” the words were mild, but they triggered a wave of hunger that consumed him, the idea of touching Grimmjow’s muscular ass suddenly becoming the most important thing ever.
“Fuck, Kisuke,” he said, breath stuttering on the upstroke, “yes. Yes.”
He stumbled over Grimmjow’s legs where he was kneeling on the futon and grabbed the pot of slick from the bedside table, somehow managing to open it without spilling it everywhere.
Grimmjow was working up and down Kisuke’s cock like it was the only thing in the world, his chin dripping with saliva and pre-come, until Ichigo’s weight fell against him. He pulled off with a wet pop and glared.
“Watch it, Ichigo,” he said, hoarse from the fucking Kisuke’d given his throat, and Ichigo felt a shudder ripple through him both at the sound of Grimm’s broken voice and the sound of his name being said with it.
“I am watching it,” he said, hiding behind a little of his standard bravado, “and if I can say so, it’s well worth watching.”
He ogled Grimmjow’s ass and waggled his eyebrows until both the big Arrancar and Kisuke let out rough laughs.
“Watching isn’t going to cut it tonight,” Grimmjow arched his back a little and spread his knees, balls hanging heavy between his thighs and Ichigo just wanted… everything.
“Want to fuck you, Grimm,” he said as he ran a sword-calloused finger down the graceful line of the other man’s spine, “Zan’s going a little crazy about it, but this… this is what I want.” He dipped three fingers in the pot of slick and let the other man see them for a moment, and then, before he could react, Kisuke grabbed him by the sides of his head and thrust his cock between his gasp-opened lips.
Fuck, Kisuke. Zangetsu was as turned on by the blond’s move as Ichigo was, So hot. Fuck his face. Choke him on your cock.
Ichigo pressed the tip of one finger against Grimmjow’s entrance, the muscle there tight and hot, and all three of them groaned from the domino effect of the sensation. A second finger quickly followed the first, and then a third, the knowledge that Grimmjow was probably the most durable person he could ever fuck soothing whatever pangs of conscience he might have about proper prep.
Kisuke watched his progress closely, eyes glittering as he relentlessly slid his rigid prick between Grimmjow’s lips, pressing so deeply that it brought tears to the Arrancar’s eyes, and then backing off just enough for him to catch his breath before starting the cycle over again, timing every thrust to coincide with Ichigo’s fingers. The harder Kisuke pressed him, though, the hungrier he seemed, opening wider, swallowing harder, hips rocking back against Ichigo’s fingers as he strained for more, every bit as wild and driven he’d ever been in battle, and the redhead wondered if just that would be enough to get him off.
Then, Kisuke changed the game.
“As lovely as this has been, Grimmjow, I have to admit, I’m a little disappointed.” He pulled his cock out of Grimmjow’s mouth, but didn’t move far, his cock still ruby red and glistening mere finger’s-widths away. Ichigo watched, fascinated, as he gripped his own length and pumped it slowly, teasing the other man. “You’ve always talked such a good game I thought you’d be a sexual force to be reckoned with, but you’re just a little too… passive for me.”
He smiled at Ichigo over the blue head. “Maybe I’ll just watch you try to top from the bottom with Ichigo-kun.”
Grimmjow erupted into motion, his lethal body moving faster than he had all night, leaving Ichigo wide-eyed and slick-fingered on the side-lines as he swept Kisuke into a hold that had to knock the air out of him.
“Can’t come up with a better insult than topping from the bottom, Shinigami?” He grabbed Kisuke’s legs and dropped him onto his back with a growl, pinning him there with his full body weight as he slotted his hips between Kisuke’s legs and lodged his cock between Kisuke’s ass cheeks. “I know what you’re doing, pushing me, pissing me off. You and your fucking experiments. You want to see what happens when you piss me off enough that I lose control? I’ll tell you. I’m going to fuck you so hard they’ll hear you in Hueco Mundo, so hard your crimson bitch won’t be able to sit down. And then? Then, I’m going to fuck Ichigo until he can’t remember his fucking name, and make you watch while my come leaks out of your ass and you can barely crawl across the futon to beg for more.”
Slick fingers pressed into Kisuke’s hole and the blond squirmed and gasped, but his cock was still jutting up, hard and demanding, and Ichigo knew he was enjoying it.
Grimmjow looked over at him and grinned triumphantly, a wild, beautiful thing, and Ichigo leaned in and caught his mouth in a filthy kiss that tasted of lust and violence and Kisuke’s cock. He licked into Grimm’s mouth again and again, eating at the heat there, listening to Kisuke groan and hiss and sigh under the demanding fingers that were stretching him wide for fucking, and knew he’d never again be able to see Grimmjow’s battle grin without getting hard.
Zangetsu was vibrating at the edge of his inner world, cursing Grimmjow and Kisuke by turns, and Ichigo swatted him away, because these two were his, and Zan could just go fuck himself and the horse he identified as.
He leaned over Grimmjow’s shoulder and looked at his cock, ruddy and huge, dripping pre-come, and breathed into his ear. “Go on. Fuck him, Grimm. He’s a fucking slut for it. He’ll love it. Love the stretch and burn as you pound into him. Love it when you hit that spot that makes his cock leak and his eyes roll back in his head.”
Grimmjow growled and pressed against the ring of muscle that was the last barrier between him and Kisuke’s heat. Then, with one rapid rock of his hips he breached his ass, dragging a low groan from the Shinigami beneath him.
“Fuck yes,” Kisuke hissed the words and rolled into the thrust, silently demanding more. Grimmjow was more than willing to provide.
“Isn’t he perfect?” Ichigo asked, hot breath stirring the fine blue hair around Grimm’s ear. “He’s made for fucking. Tight ass. Hard cock. Smart enough to know exactly what to do to make you see stars. Wait until you feel him in your ass. You’ll want him again and again.”
Kisuke let out a little moan as Grimmjow bottomed out forcefully and he flexed his muscles around the Arrancar’s length.
“Fuck,” Grimm gutted the word out. “You’re so fucking tight. It’s like fucking a velvet vise.”
Kisuke let out a sound halfway between a groan and a laugh and Ichigo couldn’t help but feel a pulse of envy.
“Lean forward, Grimm. Hold him down.” He wrapped himself over Grimmjow’s broad back and held on as he bucked into Kisuke, and Ichigo found his hole with questing fingers again. He was still loose from earlier but Ichigo took his time, curling his fingers and sliding them along the rim before twisting so that he could find that spot, that incredible little spot that would make even Grimmjow whimper and whine.
He angled himself to capture Grimmjow’s lips in another kiss, this one sloppy and breathless, distracted by the pistoning of Grimm’s hips as he fucked Kisuke so hard Ichigo was almost afraid for his gigai, but Ichigo had pounded Kisuke’s ass often enough to know that a day or two of rest was all the blond needed before he was back in form, turning the tables and driving him to the edge and over.
“Want to see you fuck him, Ichigo-kun,” Kisuke’s voice broke on the words, desire so thick he could hardly speak around it. “Want to see his face. Want to hear you both.” He reached out with a scrabbling hand and Ichigo grabbed it and squeezed.
“Grimm?” Ichigo asked, unwilling to force the Arrancar into something he didn’t want, but apparently it wasn’t a problem.
“You heard him. You need an engraved invitation?” was all he said, but the answer rattled through Ichigo and he groaned, dragging clawed fingers down Grimmjow’s flank, digging into the dimples above his hipbones as he settled his weight behind the bigger man.
The heat pouring off Grimmjow was amazing, and Ichigo rubbed his face against the plane of his back, nipping along the bumps of vertebra, his knees splayed obscenely to either side of the well-muscled ass. Grimmjow leaned farther forward and dropped down to catch Kisuke’s lips in a kiss, something Ichigo had never thought to see, stilling the motion of his own hips to allow Ichigo to maneuver into place, his cock pressed against the puffy red furl of his opening, slick and soft and worked loose until it practically sucked him in.
“Fuck.” He breathed the word against Grimmjow’s skin and felt rather than hear a rumble in response.
“What are you waiting for, Kurosaki?” A dry, raspy need threaded through Grimmjow’s voice that hadn’t been there before and it made something predatory in Ichigo sit up and take notice. “Just put it in me, you son of a bitch. Fuck me with that cock. I know you want it. Show your boyfriend here what fucking a hollow is really like. Let the hunger out. I won’t break.”
Ichigo couldn’t pass up an offer like that. He snaked a hand down beneath them to where Grimm’s balls were tight against him and rolled them once, twice, gently and then buried himself deep in his ass in one thrust.
Grimmjow roared and Ichigo howled along with him.
Sweet heat exploded around his cock, and he could feel the shock waves as he lost control of his reiatsu, the waves of it pounding against the others. He rocked forward and down, forcing Grimmjow deeper into Kisuke, and the moans that broke from them both only fed the flames of his hunger. He loved that sound, loved that he was the one wringing it from them, and wanted to hear it again and again, until they were too hoarse to speak.
“Look at us, Kisuke,” he reached around Grimmjow and grasped the blond’s cock, the drooling, dripping length of it hot in his hand, “this is what you said you wanted so open those pretty eyes and watch carefully. I’m going to fuck him now. Fuck him and let him take you apart until you’re nothing but a quivering, come-soaked mess.”
He couldn’t have stopped now if someone had held a sword to his throat. He started with a quick motion, rocking deeper and deeper into Grimmjow until he was working at a constant pace, shifting after every third or fourth stroke to aim for his prostate, pulling moans and curses from the Arrancar as he also almost brutally stroked Kisuke’s cock.
“Fuck, Kurosaki. Harder. Harder.” Grimmjow was holding himself up over Kisuke, the muscles in his arms rippling as he panted and bucked, his own cock plunging in and out of Kisuke at a wicked pace spurred on by Ichigo’s fucking and the redhead couldn’t tell if he was begging or threatening him. “I’m almost there. Fuck. That’s it. Come on. Fuck it out of me. Yes, yes… right… there! Fuck!”
He jerked as if electrified, his whole body locking up as he poured his come into the blond beneath him, but Ichigo kept moving, slamming his hips against him until he was sure Grimmjow would have bruises on his ass. He could feel his own orgasm just beyond his reach, and he stroked Kisuke’s cock in time with his own rhythm, determined to bring him off. His thighs trembled and he could feel his balls tighten as he dragged his thumb through the wet slit at the tip of Kisuke’s cock and then he heard it, that sob and gasp that he sometimes heard in his best dreams, and as Kisuke came, so did he. Pulse after pulse of come striped Grimmjow’s chest and pooled on Kisuke’s belly and Ichigo filled Grimm’s ass as the reiatsu waves of a truly earth-shattering orgasm ripped through all three of them.
Later when consciousness had crept slowly back, they pulled themselves apart like pieces of a come-covered jigsaw puzzle, breathing heavily in the dim bedroom.
“So,” Grimmjow said, scrubbing a hand through his wild blue mane and looking at Ichigo, “I’d say the mad scientist’s experiment was a success. What about you?”
Ichigo smothered a grin. “I’d agree. Kisuke?”
The blond rolled over sleepily and settled between them, spooning back into the big Arrancar’s body while wrapping an arm around the redhead. “Well, first impressions are positive, but you know how it is with these things. One has to be able to recreate the results of an experiment several times before being certain of anything.”
In the recesses of Ichigo’s inner world, Zangetsu laughed.
