hot take but 9/11 jokes aren't funny. no, i don't say that because i'm worried about "hurting the americans feelings uwu". i say that because 1. it's kinda messed up to joke about millions of people dying in a fucking terrorist attack. 2. after the attack happened, a surge of anti-muslim hate occurred, something I feel that a lot of people making these jokes tend to ignore (and to top it off i've unfortunately seen people make anti-muslim jokes about 9/11 too) 3. ngl, it's just kinda shitty to make these kinds of jokes especially underneath posts that talk about the attack in a serious manner.
#9/11#never forget#dark humor#9/11 joke#and no i don't mean comments like “a second plane has struck the towers” (though it is cringe)#i mean like making jokes about the deaths or joking that america “deserved it” or the cringe “happy 9/11!” shit#oh and the islamphobic “jokes”#listen i'll let the anti-4th of july posts slide (because i also hate that holiday) but the 9/11 jokes need to go#(edit: actually im keeping this up but only because i sorta feel very passionate about this subject)#but yeah if you genuinely think 9/11 jokes are funny get the fuck off my page and never come back

Like Oh my god i am seeing so many people on my dash defending dream by saying “HE SHOULDNT HAVE TO SAY WHAT HIS SEXUALITY IS TO DEFEND HIMSELF” like bro what? He literally said he’s ambiguous and is not gay, HE SPELT IT OUT FOR YOU AND LITERALLY ALL PEOPLE ARE SAYING IS THAT HE SHOULDNT HAVE SAID A HOMOPHOBIC JOKE LIKE???

you know what. i AM going to talk about it for a sec. because it completely throws me off that some of you think this is somehow okay and acceptable, that this is something that can be forgiven. and it's not about cancelling robbe, it's about the fact that some of yall think that homophobic acts can be forgiven if the person truly feels bad about them. because they don't.
if the girl who laughed about lesbians taking advantage of girls in the camp showers asked me to forgive her for saying that - even if i saw her truly feeling bad about it and regretting - i wouldn't have. actually, i wouldn't have come to her and wanted to let her talk about what she has to say. why? because she said those things about ME. because these are things i've been trying to let go of, things i try to unlearn, patterns of behaviour i double-check myself on.
and they somehow managed to create an even WORSE case. because robbe didn't only use the f-slur, he purposefully said it in front of sander. he blamed him for things gay men have been blamed for for decades. you got me drunk and took advantage of me you f*****. it's not about whether or not sander wants to forgive robbe or not, because the moment he said that his point of view doesn't matter anymore. why should anyone care that he broke up with noor? why should sander care that he's sorry? why should anyone care he came out to milan? framing it as a mistake is belittling the situation.
the worst thing you can do to lgbt+ people's self esteem is throw stereotypes and slurs in their face and tell them they're the problem. it doesn't matter if the person regrets the words the moment they're out. what matters is the fact that it sinks in. what matters is the fact that ever since that one girl joked about 'how funny would it be to have a lesbian in here, she'd be like oh let me wash your back' and proceeded to act all sexual i hated myself every time i looked at a girl in the showers, even though there was never anything sexual to it. what matters is the closeted kids who don't know enough about our community think they should somehow forgive homophobes because they're sorry or because they're gay. if i saw this show at 12, if i saw this situation brushed off as a mistake only to acknowledge, i probably wouldn't have thought this is such a big deal. i wouldn't have fought for my friends to stop using gay as an insult and instead just gotten their apology every time they did it next to me.
yes, it can happen. but when it comes to educational shows, especially ones about teenagers, the question should be less about realism and more about what we want to be realistic. because hey, it's also realistic for eva to stay with jonas at the end of the season because she feels pressured to have a boyfriend and it's also realistic for the girl squad to hate sana and be racist and islamphobic. but it's not what we want to be realistic. it's not what we think should be acceptable without truly discussing it, so we don't allow it. yeah, some people would probably forgive being in sander's position. it's the portrayal of this as 'he forgives the moment he hears what robbe has to say' that's the problem.
we shouldn't forgive anyone who disrespects us, who thinks we're a bad word, a slur, an insult. even if this person is someone we like, romantically or not; even if this person is a part of our community.

i decided to compile a list of faces that should be considered banned in roleplays. i used a few different resources in order to help with this list that include helpersofindie, duskrph, and dear-indies as well as plenty of research! under the cut, you will find categories describing the reason why the face claim is banned.
