I had added this randomly into my watchlist few months back and it turned out absolute gold.

The funniest scene was probably when xiaoshi kept calling for luguang after they mistakenly entered the pre-match picture 😭 look where greed got you my boy! I was so scared he'd change the main node lmao but phew he saved the day! This boy literally went "I DEFENDED MY IDOL". masterpiece 🤣

Or when Qiao ling found their secret 😭 and xiaoshi made 5 versions of the story lol but thanks to her, these silly boys continued to work together.

Actually I loved how xiaoshi started studying about the cases beforehand so that he'd make no mistakes. Always giving 200% , a true hero and and I love him so much because what do you mean he learnt to ride the bike just for lu Guang 🥺

umm.... I'm sad they didn't mention that Lu Guang was an Artist, until the later end of the show?? I wish we had gotten more of this!

on a side note, all the actors were so good because everyone being controlled by xiaoshi was believable only because of that!👏🏼

I have so much to say about this episode.

First, during this re-watch I am realising

1. Lu Guang is a huge brat lmao. Even in the previous episode, he intentionally does or says things that end up annoying Cheng Xiaoshi. I used to think that's Cheng Xiaoshi's department but no 😂

2. Cheng Xiaoshi, yeppie puppy just likes invading lu Guang's personal space and bothering him. He is very babygirl coded. Indeed!

when qiao ling explains the case, the focus is on shiguang. It is a very clear parallel omg.

The main reason for this re-watch is...I am watching this without any preset gay agenda reigning in my head unlike the first time.

First episode : I felt lu guang was colder than we have ever seen him in 2 seasons. His expression barely softens, he has a slight cishet dudebro attitude which I couldn't ignore.

And also yes. Cheng Xiaoshi was ready to kiss (and...have sex?) with that stingy boss until lu guang commands. That's an ungodly amount of trust, man. It was really insane and scary.

Anyway, back to my neutral lens...I can declare that... congratulations! I failed successfully.

I may theorise about bois being gay but my sapphic experience resonates with them, whom the fandom affectionately calls 'noodle lesbians'.

the continuous metaphor of marriage is no joke. Why are two women living together without finding themselves boyfriends? Romantic life where? oh, I know exactly where.

"sleep with me" is that Netfix and chill? we will never know. (But it certainly means something very very intimate. My sapphic radar hums in approval)

This is actually an interesting pairing of pairings in terms of how I've seen them over time. Not an entire reversal, but one I've warmed more to whilst the other I've noticeably cooled to

Why don’t you ship it?

It's less I don't ship it so much as season one and two don't really reach the required level of subtext for me to be invested in the romantic side of their relationship. There are a few little winks (lesbian noodle parallels, playing into the ambiguity of "what attracted you towards him") but by and large, the show itself just shows a really compelling bond that's not necessarily romantic.

I do think that it's clear there are plenty of people involved in making the show who would like there to be more of that angle, going by out-of-universe comments and social media posts/retweets, but I prefer to judge first on what actually makes it to the show itself. I've seen censored BL adaptations before and I wouldn't group Link Click in with that.

Yingdu is a different beast in my mind to s1/s2, because it deliberately plays into the fanservice/romance tropes and so the framing becomes more romantically-coded as a result. (Two examples off the top of my head would be the clothes sharing and LG and CXS's respective cosplays in ep 1). So, CXS/LG in Yingdu I'm much more favourable to. (I do think that because Yingdu isn't "mainline" Link Click that the fanservice levels will dip when we hit s3 and shippers will be disappointed at first, but then as the plot kicks in they'd get shipping feed of a different sort and be happy again.)

(There's also a petty part of me that gets annoyed when people are so insistent that the lengths Lu Guang will go to for Cheng Xiaoshi mean they're not "just" friends. The whole implication of "romantic bonds are stronger than platonic" is just uncomfortable to me and has possibly lowkey contributed to why I've held out so long against shipping them fully.)

What would have made you like it?

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

Grouping these together because I'd answer them in the same way.

I mean, I like their dynamic. Both Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang are characters that are fun to analyse on their own and as a pair. It's especially fun how their weaknesses interact. How Lu Guang is Cheng Xiaoshi's first "proper" friend beyond Qiao Ling who he grew up with. How Cheng Xiaoshi made such an impact on Lu Guang that he's willing to try and change things despite not even believing it possible.

And I'm a fan of madohomu, utenanthy, even kawoshin (despite kaworu getting most of his characterisation in the rebuilds it's so speedrun romance even in the og episode that it cracks me up to think about). So I do like this particular... 'setup' (scenario? trope?), as you can tell. (Can I count satorika here or is this literally the opposite scenario 💀)

It's just. Yeah. Needs more romantic coding for me. Say, in s1, we get noodle lesbians parallels (and maybe if you squint sideways at the bonus ep on rewatch after s2), but in s2 itself the main shiguang parallel is the twins. Parallels work regardless of if they mirror the relationships exactly, but if you keep getting explicitly romantic parallels to a specific dynamic then that builds up. So, more romantic parallels would definitely be something. And like I said before, I'm not expecting s3 to be super fanservicey in the same way as Yingdu because Yingdu is between-seasons content, but if they got something approaching that in s3 then it'd probably finally swing me. Only if paired with the devotion angle though. Homura has her religious devotion angle with Madoka, chuck some of that i-- I mean what.

Oh also! Because there's a lack of gen fic in this fandom, I have read a decent chunk with LG/CXS and probably my favourite fic in the fandom actually has the pairing.

Why don’t you ship it?

The thing about tenrose is that I grew up watching Doctor Who from the Ninth Doctor onwards. So, Tenth Doctor era was my childhood basically. And when I first watched that era, I did quite like the ship. However, at that time I was also younger than Rose and my view on romances in fiction has changed quite a bit in the interceding time. A loss of rose-coloured glasses, no pun intended.

My main issue with the ship nowadays comes down to stuff that's occurred to me when rewatching individual episodes from that era. Namely, so much of the ship is other people commenting on the ship rather than the ship actually playing itself out. And, whilst I don't mind the occasional comment where characters realise they've misjudged a relationship or that they never had a chance with someone romantically because said person only had their heart set on someone else (Zhu Hong saying "I never had a chance" to Zhao Yunlan in Guardian, for instance), this... wasn't that. This was old-school fic-style tactics of the kind that was actually pretty popular back then. Where people commenting on a relationship was more of a crutch than anything else.

Also, the Rose/Mickey stuff made me uncomfortable on so many levels on rewatch (not really the place for it but the treatment of Mickey himself did not age well especially, to put it likely). When I'd watched growing up I had in no way realised that Rose was... basically emotionally cheating on Mickey? Idk, some ships I can roll with that, but for this ship it was just one extra thing that had me like "in retrospect, yikes". (Not sure how much the fact it was a ship I was specifically into when I was younger affects how messy I liked it to be?)

What would have made you like it?

Less tell. More show.

Some of my favourite bits when I did like the ship were the parts left unspoken. The all "oh she knows" or "Rose Tyler, I--" where the audience is left to fill the gaps by implication. By comparison, the aspects where it was just people commenting on Rose and the Doctor's relationship were pretty clunky. If those parts had either been toned down or written out and the implied stuff upped, I'd probably be much more amenable.

Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?

Big fan of tragic trapped in separate universes separation deals. And, I mean, the Doctor and Rose did influence each other to be "better". Rose gaining self-confidence and the Doctor starting to heal somewhat after the Time War. And even after Rose is gone, she still haunts the Doctor, for better or for worse. I think the most recent mention of her would either be the Thirteen (or even Fourteen? Can't remember if Donna asked after her?) which is centuries later for the Doctor. So even if I've gone cold on seeing them together together, I am a fan of the Doctor pining for someone lost to them forever.

7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?

I love every single fan art I've seen of this little guy FKJDNDLFK I don't think there's one that I didn't enjoy, so props to the fandom for being able to put him in so many different fan arts and crossovers with other series

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

I can't exactly think of anything specific, but I think just not looking beyond Mob's character and only focusing on shipping him with Teruki (which goes for Teruki as well and reducing his character to only being gay for Mob) not saying the majority of terumob shippers do this btw, I just think it's a common phenomenon that's also present with Serirei too

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

Damn I'm trying to think back to when I first watched mp100...iirc I don't think I understood Mob well as a character? Like more of his flaws I mean, I didn't understand the Mogami arc well enough at the time to comprehend what it meant for Mob and his character, so my first impressions were very much surface level at the time. But now that I'm older, I can understand him a lot better

8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?

Hmmm...I think only seeing Lu Guang's character as just the plot twist/reveal at the end of season 2? If that makes sense 😭 more along the lines of erasing his complexity with just being like "oh he fucked up the timeline/he's so gay for Cheng Xiaoshi" when I think there's a lot more to his actions and his character than those two things. The fact that his character subverts expectations and him being a hypocrite of his own rules, his subtle kindness and consideration for others, and his foils with Li Tianchen being a really cool aspect that I wish people analyzed more during that arc.

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

Tbh my first impression of him was that he was going to be the stereotypical stoic, level-headed white haired guy 😭 that I wasn't going to gleam anything interesting from him, but he really did turn out to be my fave in the end because of everything I mentioned above! I hope we get season 3 soon and see more of how he handles the consequences of his actions + more interactions with Qiao Ling because I NEED THEM TO INTERACT AUGHHH
