GAME CLEARING 2022: The year of severe depression with Coroni on top!
So, I was in a bad place mentally this year, mostly trying to make it through the day without a breakdown. Didn't help that my boyfriend also got fired from work and moved out back home, due to a family tragedy (But on a brighter note, we are engaged now!) Because of this, I didn't play that much this year, and it also didn't help that most of my games were 60+ hours RPGs. I finally got Coroni as well, and I don't know if I've caught it at a con or at workplace or somewhere completely different. All I know is that the virus caused significant damage on my lungs, causing me to be out of breath faster and I still haven't stopped coughing.
Now, the list for this year:
Game 1: YS - Monstrum Nox (Nintendo Switch)
Got this game for my birthday in 2021, waited for the winter break to put it in and spent 9 days playing this game until I beat it 100%, meaning that I did every quest, uncovered the whole map, got 120 Azure Petals, got every treasure chest and killed multiple gods. It's been a while since I went on an adventure with Adol and gameplay-wise is pretty much the same as YS VIII, with the exception of Gifts, which are similar to Adventurer's Gear, but permanently equipped (example, some gifts enable you to run up walls, grapple to certain objects, glide, etc.), and the story is pretty interesting. I mean, at the start of the game you're escaping from a highly secured prison! And then you get shot.... and turned into a supernatural being.... and then you have to disguise yourself by dying your hair, because your bright red hair is too noticeable. "Raids" make a comeback in the form of Grimwald Nox, a supernatural plane that is full of monsters that threaten to invade the human realm, and you need to stop them. However, that ain't the main plot. There is much to uncover in the Gllia region (Probably YS' version of France, since back in the Roman times, Latin name for Gaul was Gallia).  Tho, I'm sad that there are no references to older games until late game.
Game 2: Devil May Cry (Playstation 4)
Had this game on my hard-drive for a while now and this is one of the rare games that I managed to beat in one day, taking me only around a few hours. For those who have never heard about this franchise, it's about a demon hunter named Dante, hacking and slashing demons and devils. The game is fun and I see why people like it very much. I was surprised to see a Resident Evil like camera for a hack n slash game. The story is basic (albeit a bit cheesy towards the end), which isn't surprising when it comes to first games in a new IP and the "great" voice acting shows that the game was made back in the early days of voice acted games. Gameplay-wise you wield a sword, gauntlets and twin guns into fights and while guns stay equipped all the time, you can switch between the fast moving sword or the hard hitting but slower gauntlets. This series is also the birth place of the mechanic called as Devil Trigger, during which your attacks deal more damage and replenish some health.  Now if you excuse me, I have to go fill my dark soul with LAIIIIIGHT!!!
Game 3: Pokemon Legends Arceus (Nintendo Switch)
My GOTY 2022 right here, y'all! I had a blast playing this game (obsessively, I might add, to the point my boyfriend almost confiscated my Switch 😅) , but the concept of you writing the "first" ever Pokedex is a phenomenal idea. Yeah, might get tedious, but that is how research works normally (also, kudos to that one guy who 100% all the tasks in the pokedex). Story wise, you, the MC, get isekai'd to the past version of the Sinnoh version, then named Hisui, and get told to be productive to the community or we leave you to die. There are no villain teams this time around, only you, the immigrants from other regions and the 2 native clans, named Diamond and Pearl Clan (Oh, and for some reason, a train guy from BW/B2W2, who has amnesia). Gameplay is basically Breath of the Wild meets Pokemon, you have your crafting, your gliding, your wall climbing etc.  By the way, Arceus? Can you send me and Ingo home now? Or just Ingo? His brother misses him.
Game 4: Stray (Playstation 4)
Was hyped for this game back when it was announced. Playing as a cat who, prompts to the devs, acts like an ACTUAL cat! Smart, but also a bit stupid. Gameplay is pretty simple, move, sprint, press X to vault onto nearby accessible ledges, and the most important button, the MEOW button. Story is simple at first, a stray cat living with its brethren in a what seems a post apocalyptic wilderness when a normal scavenger hunt results in your cat falling into an underworld city, populated by robots. There you meet a small drone who translates robot language for you and there are also head cra- sorry, they are Zurks in this game, that chase you around certain areas and devour you if your too slow to shake them of. As the story progresses though, you realize that humanity is gone and that something happened outside the walls that forced humans into this closed off city.  Ending almost made me cry.
Game 5: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (Nintendo Switch)
It's a Xeno game, and the best one gameplay wise so far, and full of nostalgia for those who played the first two ones. I ranked this my second favorite Xenoblade game tho, since the first one is still my favorite (and the second one gets last place because of the gacha system). I loved how they tied in the other games into this, with both locations, music and some... ermmmm.... spoilery things that I won't mention here. Battles are slow at the beginning but get insane once you unlock d-pad slots, and while the whole job system is pretty deep, you can just press the Y button for the game to optimize for you (not recommended for super bosses tho). Side quests, while not as plentiful as in the first game, we're hit or miss for me. Some were obvious to see on your mini map, some you had stupid requirements to complete first that I wouldn't find on my own without a guide.  Now, Eunie, you may slug that guy, but only once.
Game 6: Splatoon 3 (Nintendo Switch)
I love me some squids and octopuses, but since I've acquired an allergy on sea food, I can only shoot them with ink in Turf Wars. First thing's first when I got the game I only had an hour to play before I had to go to work, so I only tested out the multiplayer and Salmon Run, while leaving the Single Player mode alone for later. When I asked my boyfriend about how he liked the game, he accidentally spoiled a major plot twist in the first part of the story, leaving me a bit (okay, a lot)  bitter (to the point of not talking to him for 2 weeks). And I liked the story mode A LOT. Instead of looking for Sunken Scrolls in the levels, you had to look for them in the overworld, which made the hub world fun and left you to solely focus on the level, instead of worrying if you got everything in it before finishing it. Gameplay is your standard 3rd person shooter, aim and shoot, with the addition of your little Small Fry buddy, who helps you a lot during the levels. The stages themselves are very reminiscent of Octo Expansion, having to pay a fee in certain stages to even attempt it. I won't talk about the story, because as said before, the very beginning has a HUGE plot twist.  Can't believe, they pulled a Fast and Furious 9 move with the final boss.
Game 7: Here comes Niko! (Nintendo Switch)
A cozy game for tired people is a perfect comparison for this game. A cute game where you control the titular character Niko, who is on their way to live independently and trying to get a job. A friend of theirs got them set up for a job interview at Tadpole HQ, and the whole game is Niko being put on trial by one of the employees called Pepper, to become a "Professional Friend" as they travel from island to island, solving people's problems. During the travels between Islands Niko gets voicemails from their parents and friend, the former demanding to come home, while the latter supports their decision to get away from their family. Gameplay is very A Hat in Time like, no surprise considering it was co-developed by Gears for Breakfast, and the art style is very Paper Mario 64 like.  Hat Kid also makes a cameo as a tourist, enjoying her vacation.
Game 8: Return to Monkey Island (Steam)
I have a confession to make... I have never played a Monkey Island game before. Most I know of it is through Youtube clips and some memes and that's about it. That said, I quite enjoyed the game. The puzzles were clever, the humor was phenomenal (had me laughing a lot) and the story was wacky, for lack of a better term. There is an option in the menu to recap the previous games, but I chose to skip that. There are also in game Spoiler Warnings for previous games in some areas. For the game's story, we have our "lovable" Guybrush Threepwood finally going after The Secret of the Monkey Island (that he apparently didn't find yet???) and is once again competing with his nemesis Le Chuck to get to it. But I don't know how to feel about the ending.  I'm surprised how Elaine can keep up with her husbands bullshit and destruction.
Game 9: Sonic Frontiers (Nintendo Switch)
Hands down, one of the best modern Sonic games I have ever played. I loved messing around in the hub world back in Sonic Adventure DX days, and blasting around at the speed of sound in this game felt so satisfying! Sure, there were little hiccups here and there (Sonic YEETing himself off a cliff when I boosted and the camera changed for example) but otherwise it felt like a Open Zone (Not world, ZONE) mixed with a collect-a-ton. I started playing on Normal, heard that there was a secret boss fight if you play on hard, and switched on hard, but it didn't feel overly difficult. The boss fights were phenomenal, story was chef's kiss, which isn't really a surprise, considering that Ian Flynn of Sonic IDW fame had a say in it. I did feel a little weirded out hearing Roger Craig Smith giving Sonic a more deep voice, since I'm more used to Sonic sounding more higher pitched (maybe Sonic is going through puberty in universe 😆)   By the way, how do you guys feel about Ikaruga?
Game 10: Pokemon Scarlet (Nintendo Switch)
I have mixed feelings about this one. I was very hyped for this game and even pestered my boyfriend to get it for my birthday (which coincidentally is on November 18th, same day the game was released), but then Twitter happened and people wouldn't shut up about the glitches and bugs, making me feel guilty for enjoying it. Don't get me wrong, I liked playing the game, even thought the whole open worldness is an illusion, as you're still expected to follow a set path, as gyms, titans and Team Star don't level scale. Story wise, I liked having three paths to follow, each one telling it's own tale, the world feels huge and the school side quests ain't that bad either. I still prefer PLA's catching mechanic, being able to just chuck a ball at them and voila. The final act however, hooooo, the area game me massive Xenoblade vibes and the music was phenomenal!  I saved a doggy as well!
Game 11: RWBY Arrowfell (Nintendo Switch)
This game was sitting in my backlog for a while, since I didn't have any time to even get to playing it, thanks to both Pokemon Scarlet and Sonic Frontiers. I was however hyped for it, ever since they announced it a year ago. While I would've liked the original gameplay (since it seemed like a 4 player co-op, instead of the single player), it's a good game. The only complaint I have is the lack of a map inside stages. Gameplay is tight and fluid, story is a bit on the short side, since it's implied that this was Team RWBY's first official mission as Licensed Huntresses and fans of the show will already know that the bad guys won't succeed, since the show itself never mentions this incident ever taking place (though, that might also be because this game was in development after Volume 8 already finished). Combat is fun, but it's also easy to get yourself killed if you're not paying attention (I mostly used Ruby since her long range helped keeping enemies away from me). I also liked when bosses made you use all 4 of your characters and their semblances.  Where my Team JNR at tho?
Sadly, I think this will be the last game clearing post for me since I don't want to write how I beat only 5 games next year. Real life is catching up to me (my mental health is almost N/A) and workplace is a mess right now (Thanks Putin) which leaves me with almost no motivation to play/draw/write/do anything.
So my word of wisdom are, take care of yourselves, take a break from the internet from time to time, and, mostly importantly, STAY SAFE!

This post contains spoilers for the Guardians of Ga’hoole books.
So I watched the Legends of the Guardians movie last night and forgot just how many inconsistencies there are with the books. Don’t get me wrong, I love the movie but fuck. I just feel like I need to tell someone.
Sorry for the long post, but there is just so much different.
Here we go:
1. Soren is not fully-fledged at the beginning of the books
2. Eglantine hasn’t even hatched yet
3. The legends all the chicks are told are not about Lyze of Kiel
4, Lyze of Kiel never fought Metal Beak
5. Kludd is Metal Beak
6. Mrs. Plithiver does not have eyes, she is blind
7. The Guardians never fought in the Battle of the Ice Claws
8. Literally, everything about Metal Beak is wrong
9. Eglantine and Marella don’t have the speckle under their eye
10. Kludd and Soren were not branching at the same time
11. Soren didn’t really roleplay as a guardian
12. Noctus would not have told Soren that when he started branching, the noise wasn’t important. Noisy branching leads to noisy flight.
13. Eglantine would not be eating fur on meat or meat on bones yet, her first pellet would not have bones or fur in it.
14. Soren did not try and branch/fly while his parents were gone
15. Kludd isn’t as much of a dick in the movie as he is in the book.
16. Kludd didn’t push Soren off a branch, he pushed Soren out of the hollow
17. Kludd pushed Soren to kill him, not because he wanted Soren to shut up.
19. Kludd did not fall out of the nest.
20. Soren did not get attacked by an animal on the ground
21. There were no Tasmanian devils
22. The books were not explicitly set in Australia/New Zealand/that general area
23. Jatt and Jutt are doofuses in the movies, they are a lot more serious in the books
24. Kludd wasn’t snatched
25. The St. Aggies owls didn’t sing their song when bringing the owlets back
26. Soren was a lot more confused and frightened by the different owls because he had only seen Tytos before
27. The Pure Ones did not control St. Aggies
28. Nyra is not the Ablah General of St. Aggies
29. There is no Skench and Spoorn, the Leaders of St. Aggies in the books.
30. St. Aggies is not affiliated with the Pure Ones
31. Soren and Gylfie worked in the Pelletorium by choice
32. Not pits or pit guardians. In the books, Gylfie and Soren were kept in different pits and both of their pit guardians make a comeback later in the books.
33. St Aggies, in general, is just all messed up
34. Jatt and Jutt instructed the owlets in the sleep march seemed a lot cooler in the books
35. Soren and Gylfie weren’t given number designations
36. Gylfie doesn’t know how to navigate
37. They don’t start their first moonblinking session together
38. Soren would be the one bad at acting moonblinked, not Gylfie
39. Jatt and Jutt didn’t instruct the new owlets in the Pelletorium.
40. Again, no Pure Ones in St. Aggies
41. St. Aggies owls care a lot about number designations
42. Flecks were kept in the Library and no owl except for Skench or Spoorn could go in there.
43. Bats literally had nothing to do with the flecks
44. Flecks didn’t immobilize owls like that, they are just little bits of magnetic metal
45. Honestly, the Metal Beak in the movie doesn’t even look like a Tyto
46. Grimble didn’t confront the owlets about not being perfectly moonblinked. Gylfie confronted Grimble.
47. St. Aggies didn’t take Grimble’s family. They tried to snatch Bess, Grimble fought back, and St Aggies promised to leave his family alone if he came with them
48. There were a lot more flying lessons with Grimble
49. No Hortense :(
50. In the Pure Ones, Tyto Albas were much more highly ranked than other Tytos and would not have been trained together
51. Soren and Gylfie had to fly straight up out of the canyonlands, they didn’t get a ledge to fly off of
52. Grimble was killed in the library
53. Grimble didn’t say shit about finding the Guardians
54. Soren and Gylfie met Twilight first, not Digger, when they tried to land for the first time
55. Twilight and Digger were not buddies/living together, they didn’t even know each other.
56. Soren, Gylfie, and Twilight found Digger running in the desert
57. Digger is not eccentric and crazy
56. Twilight did not catch Mrs. Plithiver for dinner.
57. Soren found Mrs. Plithiver
58. Digger was the one that had a slip up about eating Mrs. P
59. Mrs. P didn’t know what happened to Soren’s parents
60. Twilight didn’t have a lute
61. Twilight was not a poet or musician. He. is. a. warrior. He just has his battle taunts
62. Mrs. P flew on Soren or Twilights back, not in a lute.
63. Soren and Digger went and looked for their parents, Gylfie wanted to but just assumed they were dead.
64. Twilight talked A LOT more about the Orphan School of Tough Learning
65. The band got mobbed by crows during one of their first flights together, Digger was hella injured
66. The crows did not try and steal Mrs. P
67. Um. Mirror Lakes? Hello?
68. There were no echidna’s in the books
69. Nice
70. Um. Ice Narrows? Dumpy the puffin? Hello?
71. Seriously who is this echidna?
72. Digger isn’t a tracker yet. Gylfie still isn’t a navigator yet. Twilight would not refer to himself as a poet warrior
73. Pretty sure Boron was the one to speak to the Band when they got close to the tree, not Barran. I could be wrong
74. Nearly forgot about this, what about the rogue smith in the beaks and the bobcat? What about the “You only wish”?
75. Ezylryb is not a crazy owl
76. I really hate how they portrayed Ezylryb
77. Who the fuck is Allomere? He sure as hell isn’t in the books.
78. The band does not know about the Pure Ones when they get to the Great Tree
79. Barran is the leader of the Search and Rescue Chaw
80. Ezylryb would not get in a fight with another owl
81. It’s tweener, not dinner
82. Otulissa may be snobby but she isn’t a total bitch
83. Nestmaid snakes are the tables in the dining hollow
84. The band did not have their classes together
85. Using an Owl City song was very cash money of them (not an inconsistency)
86. Ezylryb doesn’t lead colliering, just weather interpretation.
87. What happened to getting tapped for a chaw
88. Pretty sure a big part of Soren’s character is that he is a phenomenal collier. They made no indication that he is a collier in the movie.
89. Eglantine wasn’t moonblinked, she was stone stunned/damaged by flecks
90. I’m kind of sad there is no Poot
91. Ezylryb didn’t just tell owls to rely on their gizzard when flying in a storm
92. No Octavia :(
93. Guardians didn’t fight with metal swords
94. They also didn’t use helmets until the band and Otulissa figured out mu metal could protect them from flecks
95. Ezylryb didn’t tell soren he is Lyze of Kiel
96. Ezylryb had his old battle claws hung up in a secret hollow
97. Eglantine was found in the Great Downing
99. Hundred of owlets, not just two
100. The downing was this huge operation, took the whole tracking and search and rescue chaws
101. Also, no Primrose, Martin, or Ruby :(
102. The guardians didn’t go straight into a war.
103. Ezylryb would NEVER PUT ON BATTLE CLAWS
104. Ezylryb would NEVER FIGHT IN A BATTLE
105. We just going to ignore The Rescue, The Siege, The Shattering, and most of The Burning?
106. This battle is the most like the battle of the canyonlands but in reality this battle just never happened in the books
107. No trader Mags
108. Strix Struma is still alive in the movie
109. Really, everything after this point is different than the books
110. Bats didn’t fight for the Pure Ones or St. Aggies
111. Ezylryb would never.
112. Why the fuck are they having Twilight carry a lute into battle. Fuck that
113. Fire doesn’t stop the flecks by destroying the contraption that is exposing them.
114. Fire literally demagnetizes flecks
115. This really isn’t how flecks impair others. Like at all
116. They really don’t show Soren getting one coal in the movie :(
117. I’m serious, this battle and everything that happens in it did not happen in the books
118. Oh yea, Kludd and Nyra were mates
119. By Glaux I hate that they show Ezylryb fighting
120. Kludd would never beg for help, especially from Soren.
121. Soren didn’t kill Metal Beak. (See 5 and 121)
122. Metal Beak wasn’t killed by a burning branch, he was killed by an ice sword
123. Speaking of ice swords, where the heck are the Northern Kingdoms in the movie.
124. Soren’s parents are fucking dead. They literally did not come to the Great Tree because Kludd killed them. (Ngl I like the ending of the movie better because its a happy ending with Soren and his family all together.)
125. Kludd most definetly died after the Guardians had their big battle with the Pure Ones in the canyonlands
Okay, thats it. If there are any inconsistencies I missed, feel free to let me know.

Monsta X - Who owns what era?
I did BTS even though they aren’t at the very top of my list of ult groups, but do you know who is?... Monsta X and A.C.E. sO GUESS WHO IS DOING THIS WITH MONSTA X BECAUSE NOBODY IS AWAKE TO TELL ME THAT THIS IS GOING TO KILL ME? THAT’S RIGHT. ME.
This got long as fuck since they are my ult group. I can't put it behind a "keep reading" because then it gets rid of all of my colored text, I'm sorry 😭 you just have to see me going feral I guess
Hero - Lmfao I get to the very first music video and I am already discouraged because this is going to be so hard. All 7 of these boys have my entire heart. Fuck. Okay. Uh... I want to say Jooheon because this was my very first Monsta X song I ever heard, and it was because him and his red hair drew me in. But I know I will pick him for many other songs, so I am going to try to get strict. I think it has to be Changkyun for this one. His rap verse kills me every single time I hear it. It is SO...SO GOOD. He drew my attention every single time I saw it, before I even know who the boys were.
Runner up: Shownu! His vocals in this song are put out there for all to see, and they really are so beautiful. His high notes are so pretty, his REGULAR notes are so pretty. Astounding.
Jealousy - I am trying not to pick Jooheon for every single era. This one goes to Wonho, he KILLED the vibe of this song. He looked amazing in the video. He made my heart race because we all know how jealous he can really be.
Runner up: JOOHEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON. The growls and snarls and the enunciation of his words? I’m horny for Jooheon it’s not a fucking secret alright? but also Kihyun’s vocal runs in the background? Beat my ass vocal king
Shoot Out - OKAY IT’S JOOHEON. Orange hair, muzzle, the suits they put him in, the verses, a god, A GOD, A GOD--
Runner up: I think Hyungwon is incredibly overlooked in this. He looks like a fucking KING on that throne. I would be terrified to oppose him. Changkyun looks hot af too and his verse is fire. I will never pick only one runner up when it comes to MX you’re gonna have to prepare for that rkjdfngfnd
Versace On The Floor cover - Listen... I know it’s just a cover but... It isn’t going to stop me for including it because we CANNOT OVERLOOK.... JOOHEON’S VOCALS. JOOHEON. HIS VOCALS. HIS EXPRESSIONS. THE WAY HE IS STILL RELAXED WHILE HITTING THOSE NOTES. I’m sweating. Again.
Runner up: ... The way Minhyuk moves his body to this song.... is a fucking sin. I hate you Minhyuk, I don’t deserve this. Also Shownu’s lyrics and outfit? Stunning.
Tresspass - I think it has to go to Shownu. His dancing here is phenomenal, his vocals once again are AMAZING and he looks g o o d in ballcaps
Runner up:  Honestly I had to really think about this and I think Minhyuk! He looked amazing in the mv, he had a lot of charisma, I was incredibly drawn to him
Rush - Idk man... Shownu or Hyungwon? Shownu is just so cute in the music video lmao. But Hyungwon’s vocals AND charisma are amazing here to me, so probably Hyungwon~
Runner up: Kihyun looks so good are you kidding me? Stop, rewind, pause, observe.
Middle Of  The Night - I have to give this one to Changkyun or Hyungwon. Their voices were MADE for this song. Vocal Hyungwon SHINING THROUGH. I think I will give it to Changkyun though
Runner up: Kihyun. Because we are “kithing” in the car. But also Jooheon because the “Back to our own ways in the middle of the night” he does at the end of the song really fires up my oven.
Who Do U Love? - Me, trying not to let my hormones take control and say Jooheon: I think it-- Fuck I can’t do it, it’s Jooheon
Runner up: LITERALLY ALL OF THE REST OF THEM. Wonho? oh my god. Minhyuk? Fuck. Kihyun? Hhhhhhh. Shownu? aaaaaaaAAAAAAA. Changkyun? reeeeeeee. Hyungwon in black hair? please end my misery. I don’t fucking know who I love alright? leave me alone
Play It Cool - Finally, Kihyun’s much deserved throne. His beautiful voice was so, so good with this. It’s always good tbh. He deserves the world
Runner up: Jooheon, for obvious horndog reasons, and Hyungwon, also for horndog reasons.
X-Phenomenon - Lmfao it’s Jooheon again I am sorry, he is just too attractive sounding and looking in this music video. I really am only finding out how much of a filthy sl*t I am for Jooheon right now.
Runner up: Changkyun lookin’ and soundin’ real hot.
Livin’ It Up - Minhyuk, it is finally your time! Step up, king. You slayed this song. Your vocals? Gorgeous. Please accept this forehead kiss as an award.
Runner up: *Pretending Jooheon doesn’t exist* It’s Hyungwon. Witness him. Witness his vocals. Also I would put Shownu here but I hate that super baggy button up shirt he is wearing with a passion.
Follow - WONHO, TAKE YOUR THRONE! I got to hear his voice crystal clear in this song, he looked AMAZING in the video, his charisma was FIRE. I have this thing where my brain protects me from the pretty boys of groups because I know they will absolutely destroy me. So people like Wonho, Jaehyun, Jungkook, don’t affect me. Eventually they all break down my walls though, and Wonho has done that recently. I’m sorry I didn’t appreciate you sooner, my angel. Come back soon.
Runner up: TIKKI TAKKA, TIKKI TAKKA, TAKKA. But also Hyungwon lookin’ really good doing that dance... damn.
Alligator - Ah... We had to come to this song sooner or later... Listen, Jooheon. It’s Jooheon. The black hair, the black clothes and that trenchcoat, the bat on fire, the duality of his rapping, the snarls, genuinely I cannot handle it and I cannot choose anybody else I am SORRY.
Runner up: Wonho is SO beautiful in this mv. He does an amazing job, he deserves his props. But also Kihyun makes me sweat in this mv. And then he has the nerve to switch it up and wear glasses and have sweater paws. Filth.
Stuck - WONHOOOOOOO. Listen... The blonde hair, the choker, the possessed demon head roll thing, I mean come on... For once I don’t have to struggle to look past Jooheon
Runner up: Absolutely Kihyun. He looks amazing with the undercut what can I say. Also in all black? Fuck. He out here showing some skin from those pants too eye---
Beautiful - I think Minhyuk takes this one! And no it isn’t because red hair is my weakness and his promo pictures for the comeback murdered me... Though those factor in ldfjfdkhgufdh. Do you hear his voice in this song???? It’s so light and sweet, just like him. I can’t get enough.
Runner up: Wonho! He really pulls off blonde somehow??? And the blue suit? And his voice paired with it? Pure. Bliss. Kihyun as well, his vocals hit deep in my soul. And he looked SO handsome here.
Someone’s Someone - Wonho. “We all wanna be someone’s someone, Someone we can’t live without” I found out the hard way that I can’t live without Wonho lmao. Nooo don’t leave Monsta X, you’re so sexy haha ;) ... *Quiet crying*
Runner up: Kihyun again! Vocal angel. Handsome gentleman. Want to kiss him forehead.
Gone Bad - I know it’s a B track but it has a music video technically so you can’t fault me. This one goes to Kihyun too! He looks amazing, he sounds amazing, his Charisma for filming self-cam music videos is sexy, what can I say?
Runner up: I want to **** Jooheon’s ********
Unfair Love - This one goes to Minhyuk, our soft and sweet boy. He looks beautiful here and he sounds beautiful here and he really does deserve more love. I think people should go listen to his covers and osts.
Runner up: I’m in love with you Shownu
Need U - Another absolute BOP of a B side. Sorry this goes to Jooheon too, his soft loving verse stole my heart and I’d die for him on sight
Runner up: Wonho, Minhyuk or Changkyun? Honestly everyone did SO well on this song it is hard to choose. Every member’s vocals stand out and are so beautiful
Tropical Night - Changkyun! I forgot the word for the noises you make in the background that don’t mean anything because it is 12am and I am exhausted, but those are sexy. And his verse is sexy too. It’s amazing. I am a little delirious right now. I’m so tired lmfao
Runner up: Ignoring the fact that Jooheon has white hair and I want to go feral, I will go with Kihyun, because I am ALSO going feral over him, but his voice is really pretty too. Where am I? What year is it
Special - ... Jooheon said he feels good when he feels me. He also said “brrrt, brrrt, HAH” and I think that’s so beautiful
Runner up: Changkyun has black fingernails CHANGKYUN HAS BLACK FINGERNAILS-- Also Minhyuk’s vocals??? Wonho’s vocals??? Kihyun’s vocals??? wowwie zowwie
Breathe For You - I'm tempted to pick Wonho just because of how cute he is in the music video soxjdjd but I have to pick Jooheon again because of how he told me he's falling in love and bitch, me too, tf?
Runner up: Kihyun vocal legend, bow down to his feet
Perfect Girl - *shields Wonho from my line of sight with my hand* this one goes to Kihyun, he sounds so pretty the whole time and his voice is the only one I can focus on here
Runner up: Jooheon because every time I hear this song I remember him standing on stage and forgetting the lyrics because the members confused him by singing with him, and the way he waves his hand to stop them from teasing him before he quickly starts rapping again makes me cry
Okay I could keep going but I am going to black out on the floor now goodnight

WWE SmackDown Results and Review: April 2nd, 2019
Tumblr media
The Kevin Owens show with Randy Orton and AJ Styles Kevin Owens is already in the ring as SmackDown begins. He introduces his two guests as they come out. When asked by Owens, Orton said he is proud of saving the WWE universe from a washed out Olympic gold medalist beating down a guy who still think he is the best. Styles said that Orton has learned only one move in WWE after all these years, a great move but just one. Orton then cut a fiery promo saying when AJ was fighting in front of dozens in bingo hall, he was headlining WrestleMania every year in front of tens of thousands of people. Styles acknowledged that Yes Orton was in WWE. Failing Drug tests! Oh, snap! Orton said that Styles has taken the role of John Cena in WWE. He has become a corporate b*tch. Kevin Owens just stands up and leaves, which was really funny. Styles and Orton get into a brawl which ended with Orton standing tall after hitting an RKO to a Phenomenal Forearm attempt by AJ.
Tumblr media
Randy Orton was very passionate delivering his promo. Some real shots were fired there. I didn’t think that this feud could have gotten this hot. This was a homerun segment. They Couldn’t have had a better go-home angle for this feud. Rating: 5/5 8 Man Tag Team Match: The Usos, Aleister Black & Ricochet vs  The Bar, Shinsuke Nakamura & Rusev The babyfaces work over Sheamus for some time. Then Sheamus makes a comeback turning the tables in favour of the heels. Rusev threw Jey into the steps and then into the barricade in the outside. They keep working on Jey for a while before he could hot tag to his brother. Jimmy hits a Superkick to Rusev. All the competitors get in the ring to hit each other with Kicks and big moves. The Usos hit double superkick to Rusev for the win. Winner: The Usos, Aleister Black & Ricochet Alexa Bliss comes out next. She gets some heat from the crowd and said that the last week Usos forfeited the match which calls for repercussions. So Usos will defend the SmackDown tag team titles against everyone they shared the ring with, in a four-way match. This leads to an all-out brawl between all of the teams. Richochet and Black stands tall after Ricochet takes everyone out with a senton on the outside. The match and the brawl afterwards was fine. Not something too amazing. But that is just the state of WWE’s tag team division. Rating: 3/5 The IIconics Promo The IIconics cone out to hype their four-way match at WrestleMania. They randomly pointed out that the state of the SmackDown Men's tag team is great, which is not true. I loved how they kept saying WrestleMania. They say it with the same tone they say ICONIC. They say them winning the WWE Women’s title will make the WrestleMania ICONIC! The IIconics were great. They usually are but it was too short to get me interested in it. Rating: 2.5/5 Miz comes out next for his handicap match set up by Shane McMahon. But before the match, he cuts a promo. He said that WrestleMania means different things to different people. For him WrestleMania means retribution. He said he will bring the best Miz and he will beat down Shane anywhere and everywhere in the falls count anywhere match. Miz said that he will fight for his dad's honour this Sunday and then fire shots, “Hey Shane, you got a father. Well that just makes you a son of a bitch.” I was like Woooah! After he said that. Not a shock here. Miz is good on the mic Rating: 3.5/5 1-on-3 Handicap Match: The The Miz  vs  Sanity Before the match could start Shane comes out. He tells Greg Hamilton to officially introduce him and said he just wants to look this match up close but then went backstage... I didn't understand that. Back from a commercial and the Miz is making a comeback.  Shane comes out and says that this match, same as this Sunday is now a falls count anywhere match. He also puts up a photo of him squeezing Mr potato face Miz's Dad. The match goes to the backstage area with Young. Killian Dane also joined them but Miz is still fighting back. The fight goes in the parking lot. Miz drives a trolly onto Young’s arm for the win. Winner: The Miz We see Shane leaving the arena in his car giving Miz a smile while Miz just looks on with a frown. This build to the match was OK we don’t see any crazy stuff happening in the backstage bits. It was fine. Rating: 3/5 We are still in the parking lot, a police car arrives in the arena. It was Becky Lynch who got out of the back of the car. So many questions arise there. Why the police gave Becky a ride at her work? Was that the DC police driving her all the way to Baltimore? If yes, why were they there? Well I guess you have to stop finding logic now. It was just there to give a cool entrance to Becky Lynch. Becky Lynch Promo
Tumblr media
Becky gets on top of the commentary table. She says a year has changed a lot of things. Last year this time Ronda was making her WWE Debut and Charlotte and she was best friends. When it was written in the stars that Charlotte and Rousey will the main event this year's WrestleMania, she stepped up. She has earned that main event spot over the last year. She claims that the next time they will see her on SmackDown. she will be the champ she always knew she was. Double Champ. It was a promo just to have something for the video package this Sunday. Becky is still over with the fans as the fans kept chanting her name through her promo. That is still good to see after all the booking she has been through. Rating: 3/5 18 Person Mixed Tag Team Match You don’t expect me to write all of the names, do you? They kept saying this was history making but I just felt sad for the people in the ring. This was all your undercard and NXT call-ups right there. Lacey Evans comes out again midway in the match. I have no clue what they are doing with her or any of the talent in the ring. Ottis’ worm didn’t even get that big of a pop. I thought this would just lead to an all-out brawl as soon as it starts but it happened later than I expected. Result: No Contest The brawl kept going. And hey Asuka was there too. I almost forgot about her. What a shame. Asuka needs to win this. It is the least they could do, not that it would do anything for her but still. The brawl ended with Jeff and Asuka standing tall but Asuka just eliminated him as well. I would have been so mad if Asuka and Jeff randomly become friends for this random segment on SmackDown. Whatever man, as I said in the Raw review I couldn’t care less about these battle royals Rating: 2/5 United States Champion Samoa Joe vs Ali They forgot to remove Mustafa from the side LED screen on the ring. And also a man just went past the camera when Ali was making his entrance. That entrance was full of botches. I thought Ali will job to Joe building Joe up for the match this Sunday but he was giving him a great fight. He dominated most of the match. Hits a suicide dive on the outside. But Joe made his comeback when he moved out of a 450 splash to lock in the Coquina Clutch. Ali passes out to hand over the win to the champion. Winner: Samoa Joe It should have been a multi-man ladder match for the US title and guys like Ali and Andrade should have been in it. It should be a fun match between Joe and Rey but they haven’t had a SINGLE segment together since the match was announced. How am I supposed to be hyped for the match? Rating: 2/5 WWE Championship Match Contract Signing Raw’s Michael Cole was conducting this contract signing for a SmackDown match. WWE just doesn’t care about brand split now. He didn't even do anything in this segment.
Tumblr media
Bryan signs the contract and tells Kofi that he is not here to stop him from signing the contract. He is here to educate the masses. The crowd is super hot for Kofi. They chanted, “Kofi rocks” and “KofiMania”. Daniel Bryan goes on to give us life lessons. He said do not be complacent like Kofi Kingston. Don’t be a bystander in your own life and don’t wait for other people to push you to the top as Kofi did. Kofi had Big E and Woods and all the ignorant people like us to push him to the top. His final life lesson was to Kofi. He said don’t misunderstand fad for reality. He had the same Yes chants as Kofi has now. Once the fans are done fulfilling their fantasy they will feed on you. Kofi stands up and said that it is his time to educate Daniel Bryan. Bryan doesn’t understand what he went through. Daniel become the WWE champion within 2 years being here. Kofi was not a bystander. He watched it all and Bryan knows that Kofi is ready. He is scared because he know what it feels like to be in his shoes. And he is scared of what happens next. He signs the contract and both the competitors stare at each other to close out the show. Kofi has been listening to all things said to him calmly for the past few weeks. But he finally cut a promo and hell, it was great. The crowd is so much behind Kofi. Kofi telling Bryan that he knows what happens next was just great! Rating: 4/5 SmackDown once again proved that it is better than Raw. Almost all the SmackDown feuds had a great go-home angle. I like most of the show, the only thing lacking was great wrestling which is fine because you are building to the biggest wrestling event there is. Now I can't wait for WrestleMania. SmackDown Rating: 4.5/5 That was our review of SmackDown Live. Don't forget to read our fantasy booking of Kurt Angle Retirement and give us suggestions for future Fantasy Happening. Beauty and the Beast is, once again, a Beauty | GD
A-
Tumblr media
Breathtaking in detail, Beauty and the Beast offers a fresh and enchanting twist to the classic animation.
The songs, oh my god, the songs, guys. The songs were phenomenal. From “Gaston” to “Something There” to “A Tale as Old as Time”, the film was truly a musical. Whether it was just being in the theater or just natural vocal prowess (or autotune?), I was captivated. The supporting cast also sang brilliantly (loved that the Beast also had a few tunes), and my jaw was dropped by Luke Evans over and over again.
Speaking of Gaston…Luke Evans was the perfect Gaston. Dashing, strong, gorgeous, and the right amount of narcissism that could pass off for laughter, Evans delivered 110% in his role. I mean, I wanted him to be with Belle because unlike the Beast who was much more boring...
Tumblr media
As for the rest of the cast, Emma Watson is practically Belle ONLY IN LOOKS. I was a little disappointed because Watson was stiff and emotionless. I didn’t feel that much of a connection between her and the Beast until the very last few moments. Heck, I felt even more of a zing between Gaston and Belle… In fact, I think I like the chemistry between the supporting cast more than that of the main characters. Though how can you not? It’s Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, Gandalf, Professor Trelawney, and even Caesar Flickerman firing comebacks and kicking butt while dressed as houseware. Dan Stevens as the Beast, too, delivered a powerful performance. He growled, he fought, he sang, and he even cracked a few jokes. Stevens maybe had a little less hair and a lot more humanness to him, but the modern version of the Beast was just more relatable and just plain funny.
My favorite part though (besides the songs) was the cinematography. My eyeballs feasted on some candy this morning, and I still can’t get over how just breathtaking the film was. The details in Lumiere and Cogsworth and the rest of the castle gang were so intricate, and the palace grounds and the village folk…everything was gorgeous, and the costumes were also a win.
Tumblr media
As for the direction, I loved the add-ons - where Beast and Belle went to Paris, when Beast had a cruel father who shaped him into the Gaston he once was, the subtle gay innuendos, and when Lumiere and Cogsworth and the rest actually turned into antiques…It was refreshing, and a successfully emotional deviation from the original. Seriously, guys. The live-action Beauty and the Beast is the most gorgeous thing I have ever seen.

Hunting for Lunkers on O’Dowd, 8/11/18, 8/17/18 & 8/19/18
Bass fishing has soared in popularity across this country the past 5 years, and MN may be ground zero for the advancement of the sport.  Some of the Minnesota hype is a result Mil Lacs, the #1 rated bass lake in the country by Bassmaster, churning out some of the biggest smallmouth bass known to man.  But MN isn’t just all about giant smallies on the big pond.  Nope.  We have some pretty phenomenal largemouth bass fishing too.  And not just quantities of largemouth, but also quality. By MN standards, a 3 pound bass is a good fish.  A 4lb bass is a giant.  A 5lb bass is a trophy.  And a 6lb bass is a legend.  Six pound bass are not very common on the tournament circuit, with possibly the exception of Mil Lacs – which generally has at least a 6lb fish that wins big bass. Well, O’Dowd has been on fire of late and basically just said, “Hey Mil Lacs, hold me beer…”
In an early August tournament, the top bag went over 25lbs – which is insane.  The big fish was 6.7lbs.  Two other 6 pounders were also caught in that same tournament.  Three fish over 6 pounds in the same tournament on a heavily pressured metro lake!  WHAT!?! That is unheard of.  So naturally, Mike and I have spent a lot of time out there recently trying to track down our own 6 pounder…
August 11, 2018
I rolled up to the launch around 5:40AM.  First one there.  No Mike? He must have slept in because he always beats me to the lake.
Today was quite uneventful for me.  Spent a significant portion of the morning fishing deep rocks with the drop shot and jigworm.  I got bit with a few dinks and some small snakes, but nothing worth taking a picture of.
Mike on the other hand had more luck than I as he primarily fished a buzzbait and frog around pencil reeds and pads.  Mike’s big fish on the morning was a 3 pounder that blew up on his buzzbait in a foot of water.
August 17, 2018
It was a Friday afternoon, and I was super excited to get out to the lake.  I rolled up to the launch around 4:30 (wearing khakis, a dress shirt and loafers) and prepared the boat for the water – plug, back straps, boat keys...  I lined the truck up and backed the boat right into the lake.  As I watched in the side mirror, I noticed the boat drifting off the trailer.  What??? In my haste to get on the lake, I accidently undid the main line holding the bow to the trailer.  I cranked the truck into park, and jumped out.  I hopped up onto the dock and broke out into a full out sprint.  As I approached the end of the dock I had a decision to make.  Do I go all-Olympic-Long-Jump, and hope I land in the boat, or do I wait for somebody else to get to the lake and give me a ride out to my boat.  I didn’t have much to decide, and I didn’t want to wait around while my boat went drifting out into the lake.  So, long jump it was.  I wish the entire thing would have been recorded, because I am sure it was pretty hilarious to see an overweight white man dressed in work clothes leaping like a deer off the end of a dock.  Thank God, I stuck the landing, perfectly, on the casting deck of my boat. Crisis avoided.
Fishing proved to be better today, especially right around dusk.  Mike and I had both picked up limits of fish with Mike having a 3 pounder as the big fish of the evening.  We converged on the same small bay at the end of the evening.  Mike came in the direction of the blue arrow and I the red arrow. Fishing just 100 feet away from each other, we both were talking a bit of trash as I picked up a fish just slightly larger than his big fish.  He then came in behind me and caught a fish that he claimed I must have “missed”.  It was a riot as we each had a comeback for whatever putdown the other threw out.  It was getting dark, and the mosquitos were swarming.  I came up on an area that I deemed “last cast.”  It was an area I have caught fish in before.  The lily pads grow up in this area a bit differently every year, and this year there was a cluster of pads about 30 feet off of the right side of a dock, leaving a very clean area of water in between the pads and the dock.  My intention was to make a cast with my buzzbait to the back corner of the dock, reel it out along the dock and clip the front edge of the pads. That plan went out the door the moment I cast and had a backlash on my bait caster.  Luckily not a full-blown rats nest, but my buzz had landed square in the middle of the clean water.  I cleaned up my spool and began reeling quickly to retrieve and cast again. Then, a giant clubbed my bait. The vibration of the bite jarred through my upper body.  This was a good one.  After setting the hook massively, I cranked the reel hard and the fish dove into the pads. Mike, who was just behind my boat could hear the fish thrashing in the water, but was at an angle that he could not see it, although, it was probably too dark for him to see even if he had been in the boat with me.  He kept asking, “Is it a good one?”  “Oh yeah,” I responded.   After fighting her hard to the boat, I pulled this beauty up onto the deck.  She weighed 4.5lbs, which makes her my biggest largemouth bass of the year.  While she wasn’t the trophy 6 pounder we were after, she certainly was a great consolation prize at the end of the night.
Tumblr media
August 19, 2018
I decided to give O’Dowd one more shake on Sunday morning.  Third time this week!  The morning was beautifully calm, with a California Wildfire haze at sunrise.
Tumblr media
I spent the majority of the morning casting a buzzbait and frog in the shallows.  I spent some time on the deeper rocks as well.  I managed only three small bass in the fire hours I was on the water.  By the time I was wrapping up, the entire lot was full with bass boats.  Word had gotten out that this lake was on fire. Although, I think it may very well be cooling off.

Report – Baltimore JCT 2018
  Baltimore JCT – MLK Weekend
The penultimate JCT was contested and then concluded on MLK Day 2018. Baltimore was the host and it threw up an absolute thriller of a weekend. Meadow Mills 16 court facility was vibrant from start of play at 8am on Saturday all the way through to close at 3pm on Monday, with endless enthralling squash entertainment and satisfied spectators. Scozzie took a group of 18 strong players and made their own ‘Scozzie Statement’ on the event with some trademark results and performances. It was a huge tournament to kick off 2018 and build from the successes of last weekends GCC Gold… read on to hear all about it.
Phenomenal Finals
Shaam incredibly made it to his 4th successive JCT final, as he continued his quest to have a record breaking undefeated domestic season. The first game he dropped came in the semi final and represented his number 1 seeding in style. In the final he faced the #2 seed and long term divisional rival, who was out for revenge after Shaam got the better of him in his home JCT final in 2017. The final looked like it could be a toss up, but from the start, Shaam’s relentless pace proved impossible to match. His opponent held on until the later parts of each game, but that’s exactly the time Shaam ramped the tempo up and brought his unmatchable ‘top gear’ of squash. His 3-0 victory produced some of the best squash the US has ever seen at the U15 age bracket and Shaam is destined for a huge 2018 with the last JCT and Nationals still ahead. His dominant display was a true reflection of his dominant season as he made it 4 JCT titles from 4 and point him within touching distance of the Perfect 5, only ever achieved in one maybe two rare occasions. His performances were an absolute joy to witness all weekend and he is this weeks ‘Scozzie of the Week’ another deserved award to our record breaking Scozzie individual.
Our second finalist was in the GU19, as Elle continued to break her own record as the female to make the most JCT finals in US history. She’s had a great start to 2018 building off her season best performance at the US Open, where she was a whisker away from lifting the coveted title. Once again she faced top seed and National #1 and the girls once again produced a fascinating finale. Game 1 proved to be vital with both girls finding a great balance between offense and defense and struggling to break each other down. Unfortunately Elle lost it 11/9 and her opponent then built further momentum playing superb squash from start to finish to take the match 3/0.
Consolation Classics
The star of the show was the man, the myth, the legend – Mr Teddy Eill. He was seeded in the very bottom bracket of the BU19’s, but the young man didn’t not let that deter his confidence… it was actually, the complete opposite. After overcoming a minor injury whilst adapting to the court in R1, Teddy stormed back winning four matches back to back guaranteeing a top 10 finish. His victories included several W’s over 5.5+ rated players and many top 20 ranked, a huge statement form the Shipley junior. This result alongside his semi final at last weekends Gold will proper him into the top 32 with a whole 18 months to go before he ages out! With Teddy’s current improvement curve exponentially increasing, who would bet against him being inside top 10 by the end of the year?!
Lauren and Maya both had breakthrough events in the Gu15 and Gu17s. Maya was 2-1 up and only a couple of points away from upsetting the number 2 seed in R2. Her performance was awarded Scozzie ‘Match of the Weeeknd’ and it was truly brilliant, a boasting masterclass showcasing masterful attacking squash. Whilst her opponent went on to final before losing 14/12 on the 5th, Maya also used the confidence gained from such an heroic performance to put together her best finish of her season. She beat two higher rated opponents, before losing another 3/2 thriller in the Consol semis. Likewise, Lauren lost out at exactly the same stage, but should also be extremely happy with her weekend efforts. After losing R1, she won 3 matches back to back to reach the Consol semis and then went 2-0 up and within touching distance of the final! She couldn’t quite finish the job, but 11th Place was her season best and she’ll edge ever closer to a top 20 ranking.
Our 4th Consol semi finalist on Monday morning, was 11 year old Winston who is in his down year at U13. After he reached the final of his first ever Gold last weekend, he then took his game to the next level in Baltimore. Like Teddy, Seeded in the bottom bracket, he was disappointed to lose R1 but gained a lot of positivity from his performance. He then responded with a charge through the Consols, including an epic 3/2 comeback victory against a top 8 ranked opponent. He then faced the Egyptian phenomenon who entered the weekend after reaching semi finals of the US Open and carried an amazing 4.9 rating (equivalent to many U17 JcT players). Winston played some of the best squash of his life and can be extremely proud of getting over 20 points in the match! He’s a dark horse for Nationals with his current development thriving… can’t wait to see what the young man can do in 2018.
Classic Plate Classics
Eric and Meghna were both disappointed to lose in the quarter finals, but in Scozzie esq bounce back ability, responded in a true positive manner to reach the Classic Plate Finals. Meghna defeated Abby in an All Scozzie Semi (after Abby lost to Elle in Quarters) and faced the Penn JCT Champion of 2017. Meghna came out on fire and went 1-0 up. Then she responded at 2-1 down to take it to 5th set shootout. Unfortunately some important calls and breaks in game 5 went against Meghna and she lost out in the decider to finish 6th Place.
Eric lost to the eventual winner in the Quarters, but won every other match in the JCT 3/0 to reach the CP Final to face a rematch of his epic Boston JCT quarter final victory. It was another 3/0 victory for Eric in the 5/6 with his opponent unfortunately struggling with a stomach bug. Four 3/0 wins and only losing to the winner would be sufficient for most, but Eric will be hungry to bounce back stronger in San Francisco before targeting a first National title in March.
Scozzie Tradition creating Unexpected Upsets
On top of all our trophy winners, it was another JCT weekend for the Scozzie underdog to come home to PA with more unexpected upset victories.
The last time Matt Wang competed at Meadow Mill, it was less than 12 months ago and it was the first time he won a US Squash trophy… for 5th Place in a Silver! Then he was ranked outside the top 150 and had only just began competing in certified squash competition. His incredible journey and rise in the last 12 months has been one of the most significant developments across the whole US. Matt is closing in on top 32, improving well over 100 spots within the year and was ecstatic to qualify for his first JCT. To win a match was the goal, but once again Matt went over and above. After losing to a top 4 seed in R1, he then won back to back matches including beating #14 in the country, who had defeated him 3/0 only 2 weeks previous at a recent Gold semi final. A top 16 performance was a deserved reward for all his hard work and he was only a whisker away from top 12. What will 2018 have in store for the young man as he enjoys his final few months in U15?!
Kristen won the GU17 plate with 3 successive wins against top 32 opponents. The 15 year old saved her best form for Sunday and Monday and she’ll build lots of confidence from her last few matches moving into the business side of the season. Alexis and Devon both finished solidly inside top 16 and will both target quarter final finishes at the next JCT in February.
Oh and did we mention that the Eagles were also 3.5 point underdogs in the NFC Championship semi final against Atlanta… who remembers the results on Saturday night?!? E-AG-L-E-S!!!!! Bring on Minnesota next week…. we’re coming for the SuperBowl!
It’s been a hectic fortnight which has seen the penultimate PA Gold and JCT’s both conclude with huge Scozzie performances throughout and some massive results. As the focus turns to school squash for the next couple of weeks, it’s a great opportunity for Scozzies to get ahead of their rivals with some extremely hard work in training, before things really pick back up on the US Squash circuit in February. Once again, a huge congratulation to Shaam (our Scozzie of the Week) for another huge step in his record breaking season and for another memorable Scozzie weekend! We’re 2 weeks into 2018, what do the next 50 have in store… boy we’re excited to see!!

kpop blog sample (best of 2016 - incomplete)
(paragraph now irrelevant) Don’t worry, I’m aware that this is a bit late and that we’re almost a whole month into 2017. I’m aware that every other best-of-2016 list was published weeks ago (months ago, for those people who don’t count the last two weeks of a year as being in the year for some reason – which is ridiculous: what if the historically acknowledged BEST THING EVER comes out on December 29th and it’s NOT recorded in your best-of list for that year and you’re ostracized from the Annual-Best-Ofs-List-Writers Association and you lose all your ranking street cred and have to move back in with your parents, huh? Was it really worth all that just to reach a deadline or whatever?)
Taking that all into account, I’ve decided that January 20th is the perfect day to write this list (I’ve been deliberating over the winners for a grueling few weeks) because a new person is currently being sworn into the most powerful position in the world and my office is dealing with this by serving liquor at 9AM and then marathoning the Harry Potter movies, so as far as I can tell, no one is particularly concerned that I might be thinking and writing about Korean Pop music instead of putting together another competitive power point. Not that I’ll announce it, but considering the VP just spilled beer on her computer watching a Quidditch match, I think whatever I’m doing is probably fine.
I’m of the opinion that it’s borderline impossible to rank songs and releases concisely, so my system is in no actual order from best to MOST BEST or anything like that. Instead, these are my favorite 10-ish releases/singles in 2016, why I think that, and a superlative about them that made them stand out to me. So if your faves aren’t number one, please don’t send me death threats (side-eyeing you here, ARMY) because I’m nobody important and there isn’t even a number one and I didn’t even write them in a particular order. Now that it’s in writing that I’m scared of ARMY, without further ado: The Most Best of 2016.
Kisum – No Jam
Released Jun 22, 2016
“Most Slept-On Song”
Uh, more like Yes Jam?? One of my favorite rappers to come out of UPRS (South Korean rap elimination show, bafflingly called Un-Pretty Rap Star despite most of the contestants looking something like this) , Kisum’s fun and light style of spitting rapid-fire, upbeat and energetic advice like “steal your mom’s car keys and let your friends hop on” fits perfectly with the upbeat piano-driven boogie, shouts and chatting in her track. A repeated, yell-able English hook bumps up my enjoyment of any k-pop song exponentially; having it be in English but make NO SENSE is even better and you’re a liar if you say you weren’t chanting along to “NO JAM NO JAM NO JAM NO! OKAY OKAY OKAY” after the first chorus. “No jam” is a phrase used in Korean slang to indicate someone being no fun, boring, or terrible on variety shows (the greatest of sins). I have actually refused to look up the origin of the phrase because I want to believe it originated from my husband BTS’ Rap Monster telling his group mate, Jimin, that he’s “got no jams” on their way to LA (I also highly recommend watching the video from the beginning to hear perhaps the cutest pronunciation of “extra-terrestrials” ever recorded). But let’s get back to Kisum before I turn this article into “top ten times I wanted to jump Rapmon”. “No Jam” didn’t do particularly well in Korea; Kisum didn’t promote it on music shows (there’s 4 or 5 broadcasts a week where artists perform their recent releases – think Korean TRL if TRL wasn’t the worst), which I understand as the fun of the song (and the music video) is its chant-along, casual, have-a-beer-on-your-rooftop-with-your-attractive-friends summer vibe that wouldn’t be super compatible with the slick-black-stage-and-strobe-lights feeling of music shows. Despite not charting super well domestically, the video only 2million views on youtube, which is still pretty damn good for an un-promoted track from a non-winner of UPRS, but by no means great. As far as I can tell, I’m responsible for about 500k of those views, as even international fans seem to have forgotten about the track, which makes it my “Most Slept-On” award winner for 2016.
Younha – Get It? (Ft. HA:TFELT, CHEETAH)
Released Jun 12, 2016
“Collab of The Year/Girl-Power Of the Year”
Internationally popular power-vocalist Younha sets a new precedent for collaborations and bad-bitches all at once with this incredible song featuring Yenny of the massively popular Wonder Girls (her stage name as a solo artist is the baffling HA:TFELT for some reason, I don’t know) and UPRS Season 1 winner, Cheetah. The song has a killer synth base that plows into a rock-y, poppy and upbeat 80s sound and layers the vocalists’ three unique sounds into a punchy, girl-rock chorus based around the line “you say you’re innocent and I’m fuckin’ crazy”, using the censor sound as a part of the instrumental. In general, actually, this song has probably my favorite English of the year: besides “I’m fucking crazy” and “you better watch out” in the chorus, Yenny purring “just beg for mercy” is overwhelmingly fine, and Cheetah’s rap includes the line “Catch me if you can? Fuck boi, I’m Frank Abagnale”. The music video continues the 80s girl-band feel, where certified bad-bitches Yenny and Cheetah teach tiny, innocent Younha how to be one of them, wear fishnets, apply neon makeup, and disregard men. The song didn’t do particularly well domestically or internationally; the ladies not promoting it and Yenny not using her actual name probably hurt its chances. K-Pop seems to be coming back around on inter-label collaborations after years of sectionalized stagnation, so I’m hoping that other tracks like this continue to be produced, because the world needs more bad-bitches standing together, rolling their eyes and more Yenny holding a lollipop.
Red Velvet – Russian Roulette
Released September 6, 2016
“Best Music Video”
If I’d written a Most Best of 2015, SM’s youngest girl group, Red Velvet, would’ve had the best music video with their incredibly produced and performed colorful, visual stunner and musical banger, Dumb Dumb. If I’d written a Most Best of the first half of 2016, the award would go to Red Velvet’s haunting ballad (and subtle tribute to the Sewol Ferry Disaster), One of the These Nights. BUT I wrote neither of those. Fortunately, ReVel has my back and released ANOTHER visually fascinating, hella aesthetic video along with a 100% certified bop. Musically, I actually prefer some of their earlier tracks and found Russian Roulette’s album a little disappointing, especially compared to their incredibly stacked first full album, The Red, released in 2015. The song is still a blast, and I definitely rock out to it, but what gets this on my list is the music video: the girls are tricked out in the bizarre outfits, geometric hairstyles, and aesthetic makeup that have become associated with Red Velvet and dance and sing to the cutesy, sweet song with their trademarked creepy non-smiles. Compared to Dumb Dumb’s bright, contrasting colors, Russian Roulette is muted and pastel, replacing slap-bands with frills and trippy 90s geometric transitions to Strawberry Shortcake-esque borders and Itchy and Scratchy animations. The video starts out innocuous enough, but within the first minute, it changes from a cutesy 80s-tennis-players aesthetic to a cutesy-80s-tennis-players TRY TO MURDER EACH OTHER aesthetic. The sinister undertone grows and grows as the stone-faced girls’ pranks escalate to fatal: Seulgi drops a fridge on Joy via Rube-Goldberg machine, Yeri feeds her members nuts and bolts instead of cereal, Wendy lights Seulgi’s sweater on fire and pushes Yeri into a drained swimming pool, Joy and Yeri bury Irene in tennis balls, Irene and Seulgi push Wendy’s bed in front of a speeding car, Seulgi and Wendy drop a piano on Joy and Irene, and the four girls team up to knock a row of lockers on Seulgi. You know, normal tennis camp stuff. The girls have stated that the murder-pranks are because they’re all in love with the same man, but in my PERSONAL view, because that’s stupid, it’s just how tennis is played in Korea.
Jonghyun – She Is
Released May 23rd, 2016
“Best OohAhhs” / “Best Misheard English”
This would obviously be a top 10 release just for being the day before my birthday, but fortunately, it has merits on its own as well. Jonghyun, the lead vocal of K-Pop super group, Shinee (no wait, their name is super cute: like how the person who gives a gift is the gifter and the one who receives it is the giftee, they’re the ones who receive the shine! Come on, that’s cute as fuck.) Jonghyun debuted as a solo artist a few years ago, and is known for his soulful, powerful vocals, powerful abs, and powerfully open-mind. In the past, his solos have been more soulful or ballad style; “She Is” is his first fully fun, fully funky release, and it knocks it out of the park. This song is such an unusual groove that I actually literally have no idea how to describe it. Just watch it. The second reason it’s on the list is that the English in this song is phenomenal. The chorus is “Oh, she is” but sounds like Jonghyun is exclaiming “Oh, SHIZ” before ooh-ahhing like a pro, putting this on level with “I don’t wanna cry, destroy my ass” for innocuous-English-misheard-as-profanity. The other stellar English line is when Jonghyun interjects, “I like this bridge”…not really during the bridge of the song, at all, nor while standing on or near a bridge. It’s wonderful, and the way he sort of purrs the sentence has become an excellent addition to my observations, and I appreciate bridges much more. Thanks, Jonghyun, and I’m sorry I can’t pronounce your name.
Bulletproof Boyscouts – Blood Sweat & Tears
Released October 9th, 2016
“Best ‘Comeback”
A unique and rather confusing aspect of K-Pop for Westerners is that every time a group returns to promote a new release, they refer to it as a “comeback”, despite the group not disbanding or quitting or anything. I’ve decided to recognize BTS for not just their song or their music video or their Rap Monster, but for the comeback as a whole. BTS stands for Bangtan Sonyeodan, which means Bangtan Boys, and Bangtan can be translated to “bulletproof” and therefore “Bulletproof Boyscouts” is not only a hilarious name for a group, it is a perfectly acceptable translation. One of my all-time favorite groups (I just spent pretty much ALL of my money buying pit tickets for their show in Chicago), BTS are massively popular both domestically and internationally; this music video is currently sitting at 82 MILLION views on youtube right now since its release 3 months ago, and they’ve sold out multiple shows in the US. Other than making it now possible to watch “a BTS BST BTS”, Blood Sweat & Tears wins comeback of the year for several reasons other than featuring Rapmon repeatedly pronouncing “realm” as “rehl-um” and daring to look at the camera like this. The hype for the comeback started roughly a month before, and featured seven individual short films, each starring one of the members and using samples of their solos from the album. The films included references to their previous trilogy of interconnected music videos, collectively called “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life”, and leading to hundreds and thousands of interpretations and theories shared and postulated among fans as they tried desperately to understand how the two universes connect (although let’s be real HYYH [Chinese title of TMBMiL] is about the boys learning how to deal after Jin dies, adoyee) and what the parallels meant for BST. Instead of a grand connection between the two, BST took its own route and introduced us to a dramatic, sexy, and almost Latin-insfired jam accented by visuals of opulence, temptation, and formal pajamas as it relates car door guy’s descent into temptation to the eponymous character of Herman Hesse’s bildungsroman, Damien, succumbing to the charms of the fallen angel Abraxes. Surprisingly heady stuff for a k-pop video, but what else can you expect from the group whose leader is a mensa member (pictured here far left). Other than the wonderful story and visuals, the era also gave us Jin kissing V and Rapmonster and V recreating it, and there is nothing more perfect and good in the world.

Baaaaaston Frank Millet JCT
Scozzie Season 7, Chapter 12
The 3rd JCT of 2017/18 season was hosted at Harvard this weekend, as the countries top 32 players made their way east to the land of the Patriots. The Frank Millet JCT in Boston has always been a Scozzie favorite and was notoriously the season opening event in September. This year it was cemented in the middle of the squash calendar, presenting it as a pivotal fixture in many goal setting journals. With almost every top ranked player in attendance, the competition was extremely high, with expectations targeted to match. Could Shaam continue his record breaking unbeaten start to the season and make it 3 for 3 in JCT titles? Could we have our first U19 Champion since Sean broke the record to become the winningest male junior back in 2015? Could the Eagles beat the Cowboys in Sunday Night football to go to a record breaking 9-1?! Read on to hear all about the twists and turns of another Scozzie JCT rollercoaster…
Can the Perfect JCT Season continue?!
The man of the moment – Shaam G! The 8th grader has taken his talents to a whole new level and after upsetting the odds in JCT #1 in Cincinnati to win his first career JCT title, Shaam has continued to improve at an electric pace. One of the programs hardest workers, his successes couldn’t be more deserving and he entered the weekend on a 10 match unbeaten win streak. That kind of form never goes unnoticed and he arrived in Boston with a big target on his chest for many of his peers seeking that acclaim to be responsible for being that person to finally end the streak! From R1 all the way through to the final, his opponents brought their A games and were gunning for glory. In the first 6 game he played, every one was within 2 points. Somehow Shaam stayed cool and composed despite struggling to find his best form and still won all 6 games to reach the quarters with 2 perfect 3/0’s. In the quarters he faced his toughest challenge of the season so far. After losing 2 tiebreaks, Shaam was suddenly tied at 7-7 in the 5th and 4 points away from losing his perfect streak. The opponent was on fire and the whole of Harvard sensed an upset. Shaam went to 10-7, but then couldn’t convert any of his 3 match balls and again, tied it at 10-10. Now, hold on a second…
Super Saturday’s Surreal Sixty Minutes
2-2 and a tiebreak 5th game in a JCT quarter final sounds all too familiar. Eric did exactly the same thing in the Bu19’s up against his long term rival who’d he lost to in the quarter finals in JCT #1 in Cincinnati… oh and didn’t we mention that too was a 5 gamer. And… it doesn’t stop there… Meghna had the exact same scenario in the GU19! Facing the same opponent she defeated in 5 in Cincinatti, Meghna saved match balls in Game 4 and then the score line crept up until the refs called the famous ‘10 all, player must win by 2 clear points’! Surely that’s enough excitement to last a lifetime?! NO! All of this was within the space of 60 minutes, which will now be remembered in history as the Surreal Sixty on Super Saturday! Peter M incredibly was then part of an almost identical situation in his Bu19 quarter final! He was 2-1 down and 10-6 match ball, when he decided to create history with his very own crazy comeback!! Saved 4 match balls with some of the gutsiest squash you’ll ever see and the sealed Game 4 at his first opportunity! 4 absolute thrilling matches which had very spectator on the edge of their seats and the coaches must have suffered at least 10 mini heart attacks in the excitement! How many could we win and move on to join Elle, who by the way, managed to win 3/0 in relatively comfortable fashion in her GU19 match up. Why can’t the rest of you be more like Elle! These roller coaster thrillers are taking years off our lives and the gray hairs are continually appearing by the second! The answer….
Before we reveal all… back to Shaam! 2-2, 10-10 the true test of a champion being able to come through those situations. Well Shaam is a true champion and he played his best squash on those big points to seal it 12/10 in the 5th and make it a lucky 13 win-streak after the notorious unlucky number almost cost him his record win streak! On the next court, Eric… must of inhaled some of Shaam’s super powers as he fantastically fought of one of the most impressive shot making game 5’s we’d ever seen from an opponent. He knew the opponent was gassed, but any ball could roll and the did! His opponent couldn’t miss and somehow Eric stuck with it to 10-10. That’s when the Magic came and 2 perfect rallies resulted in another 12/10 victory and made it 3-3 in quarter final victories. Meghna’s turn! Surely after saving match balls in Game 4, she couldn’t do it again in Game 5?! Well yes she could… immediately after Eric, Meghna made it 4 for 4 upsetting a top 4 seed for her 2nd victory over her this season (both in 5!) and incredibly another Scozzie tie break success!!! Finally, Peter brought the craziness to an end with a lights out Game 5 to make it 5 Scozzie semi finalists with 5/5 from our quarter finalists! Some may say luck was on our side, but our guys showed calmness, composure and it was truly clutch squash at the biggest moments. Psychological perfection lead to exquisite execution, what an hour of excitement it was! One for the Scozzie history books, it won’t be forgotten any time soon!
JCT Finalists and Joint Scozzie of the Week
Shaam and Eric then progressed to the finals with Two excellent semi performances, Eric overcoming Peter 3/1. Shaam was up first in the BU15 final looking to make it a perfect 15-15 in JCT matches this season. The final was #1 vs #2 and the match everyone wanted to see… and these boys didn’t disappoint. Shaam raced 2-0 up volleying better than some professionals would and he looked unstoppable. Suddenly his opponent found some top shelf wisdom and clawed it back to 2-2 and set up a nail biting 5th game. Those pressure situations are where the money is made and once again, Shaam showed his resilience and champion-esq fight to seal a 11-9 victory and his 3rd JCT title of the season. What a season the young man is having, arguably the most dominant season from a junior male ever in JCT history. Next up for Shaam is the US Open, which is quickly followed by the British and Baltimore JCT where Shaam will get to test his talents against the World’s best.
Eric was up next and facing the defending U19 JCT champion who won at Penn last month. It was Eric’s first final since his sole U17 JCT victory in Baltimore and offered the chance to claim the coveted title of ‘Best Junior in the US’. His opponent hadn’t dropped a game until the semi finals and came in slightly fresher. It was the last match of the whole event and a good crowd stayed to watch the tantalizing match up which had divided opinions who the pre match favorite was! Eric began sluggishly and was disappointed to go 1-0 down. A effective change of strategy saw Eric slowly begin to implement his variation and unpredictability and completely turned the match around. He went 2-1 up and was completely in the driving seat. With the title within touching distance, Eric continued to perfectly execute and displayed nerves of steal, with the rally quality actually improving as he neared in on a 2nd JCT title.  He had 3 Championship Balls at 10-9, 11-10 and 12-11, but a combination of some extremely stubborn squash from his opponent and a clipped tin which would have won it saw Eric heartrendingly drop it 14-12. It was back to another fifth game shootout and his opponent used the energy and momentum gained from sneaking the 4th game to play a perfect 5th and unfortunately left Eric with the runners up trophy. A big step forward for Eric and despite the disappointment in losing a final, can be very proud of putting himself within 1 point of a championship. He’ll now be additionally motivated to put in a huge month of training before joining Shaam with the trio of events at the end of December/beginning of January. Eric turned 18 on Thursday and was holding off celebrations until after the tournament. Hopefully the Eagles can beat the Cowboys to start the party!
Great event boys, both of you are truly deserved of your successes and are joint ‘Scozzie of the Week’ for Week 11 this season.
Semi Finalists
After Peter and Eric faced off in the All Scozzie Bu19 semi finals, Elle and Meghna became the 2nd All Scozzie match up in the GU19 3/4 play off. Elle managed to win her 4th 3/0 match of the tournament and can be really happy with her performance. Meghna played well against the top seed in the semi’s and can be proud of back to back JCT semi finals despite playing up an age group despite being eligible for U17s. Peter also came closer to cementing his place on Team USA for the World Juniors next summer in India after his 2nd semi final JCT appearance. He finished 4th to back up his Bronze Medal in Cincinatti.
Consolation Events
There was some excellent squash on show in the Consolation Events and Scozzie has some significant involvement. Maya had her best finish of the season with a top 12 placing in the GU15’s whilst still in her down year in the division. Kristen only just recently aged up and was tremendous in reaching top 16 of the U17 girls, her first JCT in that bracket. Devon had a huge upset victory in the GU15’s defeating an opponent ranked 0.3 above her and her ranking will be boosted by her top 16 finish. Winston like Devon and Maya is also in his down year, but also demonstrated abilities way beyond his years. After upsetting a top 16 seed in R1, he almost took out the reigning JCT champion in R2. His performance was phenomenal and he Carried that form through 2 additional rounds of Consols, before foot blisters ended his run whilst 2-0 up. Lauren was 2-1 up against a top 10 ranked opponent in the U17’s and lost out in a heartbreaking 11-9 deciding set. Abby and Alexis both won R1 in impressive style, but couldn’t quite replicate that fine form in the consols. Overall, everyone played above and represented a higher level of squash than their current ranking/rating suggests. It proves all the hard work is paying off and huge Scozzie inroads are being made into the elitist levels of US Junior Squash.
Three JCT now completed and we continue our perfect record of bringing home a title from each of them. It was a great weekend of performances and development and the learning experiences will provide the perfect foundation to build from before next months US Open. Now it’s time for our favorite week of the year as all our Scozzie Alums Head back home for Thanksgiving. We can’t wait to catch up with everyone and see y’all back on court, before the highlighted annual Turkey Bowl on the 23rd where 15+ Scozzie Alums will take on the current crew of All Stars! The standings from the 3 previous years are 1 win each and then the famous tie of 2016! What will this year bring, we’re so excited just thinking about it!!! Come along at 10am to see all the action unfold!
