In the brief sad time Jess goes back to New York after the car crash production spent a lot of money to show us things aren't okay at home. Besides telling not going to school and choosing to spend all day in a park they went further !

When Jess calls Rory they show him at a pay phone on the street at night in the rain. This in contrast with Rory in her warm home with a ceiling and her mother.

They could have shown him at his mom's apartment. If all they wanted to do was show Jess was in New York and wanted to talk to Rory all they needed was cordless phone and a beige wall with a vague NYC poster.

But instead they used a significant amount of their production budget to access or build a city street, pay extras, pay for a RAIN MACHINE!!

It's not a casual accident that lets us conclude Jess is desperately avoiding going home to the point of standing in the cold rain at night. They paid a lot of money for us to know that!

i definitely don’t differentiate seth cohen and dave rygalski which is probably why i’m so emo over jess and dave never being best friends. their wit and interest in similar bands would sooooo be a selling factor. dave would always have jess’s back against dean, or anyone for that matter. and jess would be dave’s wingman, vice versa. jess would fight anyone who fucked with dave (since he doesn’t exactly have the frame or desire to do it himself). dave would always nervous ramble to jess about lane while he tried to read, eventually taking it into his own hands. dave also wouldn’t miss the opportunity to tease jess about rory every damn day. it would be the BEST tv bromance. i live by this fact.

I mean, it was an insane thing to ask when he'd done nothing to repair their relationship beforehand, and it would have absolutely been a disaster, but Lane is ALSO right: the fact that Jess asked Rory to "come away with him" was an UNBELIEVABLY Romantic thing to have happened. 😳😭

I think a (not big but still there) part of why Jess was having such a hard time admitting that he worked at Walmart was that he would have to admit that Dean was working for the independent mom-and-popstore movement (at least pre Soda-shoppe) while Jess anti-establishment-counter-culture-wannabe-punk-rock Mariano himself was working for The Man

jess’ mere presence triggers some sort of strange possessive reaction from all of rorys bfs like they will not give him a moment of peace he didnt even do anything yet in both scenarios and dean and logan both wanted him DEAD. NOT ALIVE. and its bc they saw how rory (always has and always will) gravitates towards him they had to shut that shit down immediately. terrible vibes. its like trying to keep ur cat away from a stick of butter that it really wants to eat. you can’t do it.
