Ogham Readings
Hello! As some of you know i am trying to raise money for top surgery, and after very careful consideration i have decided to offer ogham readings.
What is ogham?
The ogham alphabet is the earliest written form of the Irish language, originating sometime around 300BC. In the mythology, the alphabet was created by the god Ogma as a gift to humanity. Each letter has multiple associations, trees, birds, colors, ideas, and much more. This is an oversimplification of course, but the ogham alphabet is a key part of my practice. Modernly many Irish pagans use it for divination, charms, and artwork.
Using ogham is not a closed practice. Anyone is welcome to it, but it is very deeply entrenched in celtic cosmology and can only be understood in that context. This is why ogham readings can be a bit tricky to get the hang of.
What Im Offering
Ogham readings are a service i provide in real life to people in my grove, its one of my roles in our community. I'm new to doing this online, so feedback is appreciated! I am only comfortable giving readings to those over the age of 18. You do not have to be pagan or even religious to ask for one.
$5- one fid reading
i will pull one ogham stave and discuss its meaning, history, and core concepts with you. this could be something that needs more attention, a message for you, or a concept deeply tied to you as a person. through talking we can figure out its meaning in your life.
$10- answering a question
i will help you craft a question best suited to your needs and the oghams ability to answer. i will use my method of ogham divination which usually yields 3-5 staves. we will discuss the outcome and its meaning.
$20- three cauldrons
the three cauldrons are poetic energy centers in the body that are turned by joy and sorrow. there is the cauldron of warming, the cauldron of motion, and the cauldron of wisdom. this reading will look at each individual cauldron and provide insight on what you should focus on in those aspects of life to align your energy.
DM if interested!
if there's something specific you'd like a reading on that doesn't quite fit one of these options let me know and we can negotiate price!
thank you 💚

The Real Mother of the Gods
Random internet articles will tell you how Danu is the mother of the Irish gods, like some overarching ancestral figure.
When reading the actual lore, this idea is pretty false. There may be a Danand, mother to three gods, but no great Danu. This is even argued, as a better translation may reveal they are three gods of skill, the word for skill confused or made into the name of a goddess.
While I was reading the verse portion of the Lebor Gabála Érenn volume 4 (LGE) on the tuatha, I discovered something interesting. Ethniu is named as mother to seven of the major gods: Luichtaine, Creidne, Goibnu, Dian Cecht, Nuada, Dagda, and Lugh.
Additionally, in the Cath Maige Tuired, if I am not mistaken, Ogma is named as one of her sons.
It is a shame this isn't discussed more. The prose text of the LGE does not mention this either. It mostly recounts who is the father to whom.
Ethniu is daughter of Balor, a Fomorian king. The Fomorians share ancestors with the gods, and live on islands close to Ireland.
Folk or fairy tales tell how Balor heard a prophecy that his grandson would kill him, so he locked Ethniu up, surrounded only by women, until a man looking for a magic cow Balor stole sneaks in and she gets pregnant with Lugh.
In the LGE it is mentioned she is given to Cian, a god, in marriage and they have Lugh.
But turning to the verse texts in the LGE, here is the small passage:
"They were powerful against their firm conflict,
The seven lofty great sons of Ethliu.
Dagda, Dian Cecht, Credne the wright,
Luichne the carpenter, who was an enduring.
consummate plunderer,
Nuada who was the silver-handed,
Lug Mac Cein, Goibninn the smith."
(The names have variations of how they're spelled in the LGE.)
Her first six sons are over different skills/roles, a smith, wright, carpenter, a physician, a king, and a druid/wizard/warrior, but her son Lugh possess all of the skills and becomes the king of the gods after Nuada’s death.
I think Ethniu/Ethliu should get the credit for being mother of the gods.

So, i have been studying a lot of Celtic Mythology lately...
Specifically Irish Mythology, by the works of Charles Squire, specifically.
And learning about the Thuatha De Dannan, and the war against the Fomorians was a blast for most of the time. Lugh is really bad ass and Dagda is such a goofer. My favorite part of his myth, is that part when he gets a comically large spoon and drinks a lot of soup. Yeah, i am not making this up...
This kinda made me apreciate more of the Doi designs for Apocalypse. I preffer Beta Dagda, but i came to apreciate the current design a lot more. Dannu is great in both her beta and current design, while others like Nuanda and Ogma are comically stuck to Demi kids, and Brigit weirdly did not received a redesign along with Dagda and Danu for Apocalypse, even if she is his daughter and very important to his character as a whole, in irish Mythology.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beta Dagda and current Dagda.
You can see that clearly they suffered the same design idea as Odin, trying to make it look more like a ''marvel'' hero, if that makes any sense. Like, they try to mix a clearly humanoid and familiar figure with artificial and mechanical traits. Personally, i like this! But i often thought that Doi's Dagda went too much on this route, while it looks cool, it ends up not looking much as the myth depicts.
Danu is another thing entirely. It is funny how scholars are not even sure if there was a goddess called Danu, and theorize she was created in latest centuries by christian scholars. Danu wa supposed to be a motherly goddess for the Irish Pantheon, the one who gave birth to their group: The Tuatha De Dannan. In reality, Danu was most likely proposed later, when they were trying to make sense of the name Tuatha De Dannan, which they explained that it meant they were the ''People of the Goddess Danu''.
Of course, this is debated to this day. And if you read the myths (like i have been doing for a while) you will notice that Danu is absent even in big moments, as the war against the Fomorians or the arrival of humans in Ireland. It really felt as if she was just there, inserted. But anyways, both of her beta design and Doi current's design are great. Although in this case, i am more inclined to her Beta design.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brigit, Dagda's daughter did not received a Doi redesign for the new game, and seemed to serve no role in the end product. However, she does have a side quest in SMT IV, where Flynn and gang helps her to get her father's signature Cauldron, to help and revive Danu and the Thuata the Dannan. Which actually happens in the sequel, Apocalypse where those really appears.
Brigit is a fire goddess, but also of other things which i am lazy to explain now, but i gotta say i really enjoy her Kaneko original design!
Tumblr media
I will probably come back to talk how Dagda's wife ended up creating the perfect storm to birth Fionn McCool as a hero, or how Lugh ascended to the throne of the Tuatha De Dannan, but for now i gotta say that Irish Mythology is very rich and interesting and i am glad authors like John Rhys and Charles Squire worked hard to make their legacy alive today!

Okay, so Fomoire Drama Time --
Generally, with criticism of CMT, we say that you have about three generations represented in the text -- there's the older members of the Tuatha Dé (the Dagda, Ogma, Nuadu), a middle generation (Míach, Airmed, Bres, Óengus), and a younger, up and coming generation (Lug). Lug is born during Bres' reign, but Bres is still a generation behind people like the Dagda. (And yeah, you'll notice how screwed and tragic Bres' generation is, sharing it with Míach.) (In headcanon territory, I also like to think that Bres is of an age with Étaín, even if she doesn't show up here.)
We have less on the Fomoire, so this is not me speaking as an Academic, it's me pointing out different strands and what I make of them on an informal level. You have older members of the Fomoire -- Balor, Indech, Elatha, and Tethra seem to be the hard hitters, since they're the ones who are invading Ireland during Bres' reign. Indech and Elatha are both described as kings of the Fomoire, and Balor is old enough to have a daughter of marriageable age when the TDD invade Ireland. Therefore, as two young adults at about the same time, Ethniu is likely of an age, roughly, with Bres, the two cousins are both part of that middle generation. (And then her son makes Bres' life a living Hell.)
But then we see this...sort of shadow generation that you catch glimpses of in the actual battle. Balor's twelve sons, who don't do all that much. The sons of Tethra, who are more useful of Tochmarc Emire.
Bres' son, Ruadán, who is described as being a man but, by all the laws of mathematics, he couldn't have been more than 30 when he died, and I'd honestly wager for early twenties as far as age. And the text specifies that, when he dies, he dies "in the presence of his father." We focus a lot on Bríg in this scene, understandably given it's a very poignant scene and really shows the cost of this conflict on the mothers, but no one ever points out that *he died in BRES' PRESENCE.* When I really want to hurt myself, I like to think about what "in his presence" meant. Did he collapse at Bres' feet? Did Bres hold him when he died? Did he collapse a little bit further away, so Bres only just missed being able to hold his son one last time? Was he too shocked to do anything? Bres isn't given any other children by the text, even though we see him with other children in other texts. There's one Dindshenchas text, the Dindshenchas of Bréfne, which gives Bres a daughter, Indusa/Innus, who dies via a deed of "manly might", in a tract that mentions Balor's army. Did she die fighting for...or against the Fomoire? Or did she die in a separate conflict? Either way, it wasn't natural. In that same tract, Bres is called "búain" -- "lasting, enduring; constant, firm, persevering." In the Dindshenchas of Cairn huí Néit, Bres is described as having died "without prosperous issue." I'm not saying that the implication in all three texts is that Bres outlived any and all children that he had, but I think that's a reading you could make. And this is AFTER his father demonstrated, very clearly, that he was kind of embarrassed by him and really pulling away from him, adding another layer of disfunction to the mix.
And then you have whatever the Hell's going on with Indech's line. Specifically, his daughter. She isn't given a name. She's always "Indech's daughter", she's described as being strikingly beautiful, and she has sex with the Dagda. She leaves the Fomoire for the Tuatha Dé. She's not really discussed all that often, but I have a lot of thoughts about her. (No, really, ask me about my thoughts on her and specifically how I'm interested in adapting her.) She and Ethniu are both Fomorian women who go to the Tuatha Dé, one as part of an arranged marriage, the other because the sex was great. I sometimes wonder how she fared after everything, as a foreigner whose father was one of the invaders. Did she form an alliance with the other Fomoire who were there? Did she mourn her father's death? Did she not care? Regardless, she's remarkably proactive, strong-willed, and sharp in the one scene we get of her.
His son Ochtriallach only gets a couple of lines but HE'S weird as well, more to come on that. He doesn't die, but he does pop up a little bit -- he fights and kills two of the Tuatha Dé's poets and is the one who orders the Tuatha Dé's healing wells to be stopped after Ruadán's death. Which. I can understand why some retellings make it so that it's Bres who gives that order, because it's WEIRD. It isn't said to be explicitly in response to Ruadán's death, but it's put so closely next to it that it's hard not to draw a connection. (Yes...I headcanon the two of them as lovers. OBVIOUSLY not present in the original text, I'm not claiming it is, but we know I'm always trying to make CMT gayer. I also headcanon the Daughter of Indech and Indusa as being girlfriends, because apparently Indech's line has a Thing for Bres'.)
And then we have Duirgen. Who does not appear in CMT, but in a later Dindshenchas tract, where we learn that she found out her mother was having sex with a slave instead of her father, told her father, and in vengeance, her mother told Indech, who was a kinsman of hers, to take revenge on Duirgen. He propositioned Duirgen, who fought back, and he finally killed her. I think about her more than I probably should given that she's a character who appears so briefly. That Indech actually tried to have sex with this girl whose mother is at least a kinswoman of his, who, by all implications, seems to be much younger than him. That she was just...tossed aside like that. The way her story links up with that unnamed daughter's, as both of them are kinswomen of Indech who defy him.
The point is that we don't get much on the younger generation of the Fomoire, I wouldn't argue the point TOO strongly, but I think it's very possible to make a reading that says that the Fomoire were portrayed, both in this text and in some of the later texts, as falling apart at the seams, and I think about them very much in the mode of Greek tragedy (that's not INCLUDING Balor's story, since that's another example of Fomorian Family Drama). The Tuatha Dé are going to eventually (and in the early modern recension, they ARE), but at least they have a Lug. At least they have an Óengus. Or an Airmed. Relationships between parents and children among the TDD are strained, but they EXIST, whereas with the Fomoire...it feels like this generation (and the slightly older generation) is being eaten alive. They don't have a Lug, they don't have a future. They are going to be utterly destroyed, either in exile (voluntary or not), dead from the war, or the victims of their own family members.

Welcome to this space

About me.
I'm a 21 year old Irish Celtic pagan from México. I'm also an art student, art teacher, fitness instructor and teacher and aspiring writer and poet.
He/Him/His
I have a love for folklore, arts, music and literature. I'm a fan of horror, 19th century story, folk rock among other things.
I'm a polytheist who mainly follows the Celtic Irish pantheon. I've been in this practice for around 4 years at the moment I write this post. I'm a reconstructionist and revivalist, and I believe sspiritual practices and teachings from all religions are valuable and useful.
I've done my best to build a relationship with all of the gods of the pantheon I follow, but I've found my closest relationships with Brig and Cernunnos, as well as currently learning and approaching Ogma and Lugh.
I'm interested and trying to follow the path and practices of a modern day bard, as well as still learning and discovering both my faith and self everyday.
I'll mostly post reflections on my thoughts about things I learn about the gods and the myths, as well as prayers and art I dedicate to the gods. I hope you find my blog a nice place to stay.

I suppose this is a companion piece to the Rotpocalypse. Mainly written down for my own records.
"Surely there is more to me than simply decay," I said to myself. "I'm an artist. Surely there's a growth and healing side, too."
I turned to Ogma and asked. He didn't really say much.
I think I'd mentioned (or maybe not) that there had been a lighter side of my rot powers, that fermented things, turning them into beer or wine, depending on the target.
Have you ever seen a lemon's peel liquify around the intact fruit? No? Neither me, but it'd happened. I used a spoon to put it into the trash. Then it happened again, but this time, I massaged off the zest and pith, looking at the completely intact fruit which smelled like alcohol. I pondered what this interesting new flavor friend might taste like, but my partner talked sense into me, and it, too, went into the trash.
One the third day, I opened a spaghetti squash, and every single last seed inside of it had sprouted. It had come from the supermarket. We planted them. I tried to eat what remained of the squash's flesh but it was terribly bitter.
And then... every apple, every lemon, every fruit that wasn't seedless, the fruit inside of everything had sprouted.
I determined to try and channel this power into healing a cold. The results were underwhelming, but still atypical of that particular person's pattern with respiratory colds, in a good way. I'll keep trying.
A super power of growing food from seeds inside of supermarket produce isn't nothing.
Making food and healing people would be based.

I’m having a weird time with Shadow Dragon.
First and foremost, this game is fine. It’s fun even. It’s nice to play a game in this series that doesn’t feel like it’s constantly out to get me again, and I’ve been enjoying the gameplay and maps plenty enough. Also, it’s been fun seeing where a lot of iconic archetypes of the series have originated. Using Ogma and Navarre reminds me of playing FE6 and using Dieck and Rutger, Merrick with the Excalibur feels like using Asbel with the Grafcalibur, Cain and Abel are fun cuz they’re the OG Christmas Cavs, etc. Simply for the sake of understanding legacy it’s been interesting to play this game.
Except… I don’t know, the fact that all the units feel like other units I’ve used before in addition to the fact that the maps are like… just fine? It all makes this game feel like I’ve played it before, but in better/more interesting forms. Everything else about it other than the core gameplay feels lacking in heart or care, which is extremely weird for this series. I haven’t gotten far in the game but so far the games the story reminds me the most of are FE6 and FE7, which basically means it’s boring and hard to care about. Which like, fine. I was never expecting this game to have a mind blowing story, but not having even support conversations really stings. By this point in the series it was more or less a standard, and in the few games I’ve played that don’t have them the main plots were able to pick up the slack, but it really doesn’t seem like this game’s plot is gonna do that (we’ll see though, I’m only at I think Chapter 8).
Moving on though, the graphics and presentation are, to be quite honest, horrendous for this series’ standard. The character designs and art style are extremely unappealing, the maps have this realistic aesthetic that has aged terribly, and it all just looks bad altogether. This game directly follows the Tellius games chronologically, which on its own feels weird because how the hell do you go from Radiant Dawn to the muddy grossness that is this one? But even then, the GBA games look significantly better. The SNES games look significantly better. I think the only games I could say it looks better than are the NES ones, but even then comparing to the NES games feels like punching down. It’s just bizarre, because if you’re going to remake the first game in your series, why do it like this? This doesn’t feel like a celebration of the series’ roots, it feels like they did whatever was quickest and easiest because they don’t have a lot of resources to work with (which to be fair, they probably didn’t).
This game, as a remake, feels like it has the opposite problems of Echoes. That game felt like a love letter to Gaiden in terms of its presentation, story, and characters. It ultimately failed for me because it was awful to play, but it’s hard to not feel the amount of care that went into that game. I don’t feel any of that with Shadow Dragon. I think I’ll end up ultimately liking it more than Echoes since the gameplay is, at worst, fun, which is more than Echoes could say at any point while I was playing it. What can I say, gameplay is the most important part of a video game to me, and this game has that at the very least. But it has almost nothing else, which is a real shame.

Crossing my fingers for you! I'm aroace, but attracted to both genders so summer banners are weird for me, but I have fun seeing others enjoy them.
Have a nice day, and I wish you good banner luck! <3
Haha, thank you! That’s a good thing in your case, it just means you always win. I honestly just wish that the beef to tiddy ratio was a little more fairly balanced sometimes. We REALLY get hit or miss on some of these banners, two years ago we had Freyja and Freyr, which I think was pretty fair (plus Ogma). But the TRUE beef we had was Helbindi. We haven’t had a dude that muscular for a while. So like… the big choices I can think of that would leave me satisfied is Tibarn, Balthus, Dieck, Skrimir, etc. I’m not attracted to him (he gives off dad vibes) but Caineghis would be an interesting pick too.

-*It kills Atticus inside to see Bragi just emotionally destroy himself over something that wasn't even his fault to begin with. He wishes he could just embrace him within his arms and never let go. As much as he wishes others didn't have interior motives to their actions, he knows that won't happen anytime soon. Ogma, along with Anato, Agu and Iru all knew what they were doing when they took what wasn't rightfully theirs.. they all played it off like some game.. Bragi didn't deserve to be dragged into such nefarious affairs by which they'd just cast aside their problems onto someone completely innocent like him.. but.. how would he have known this was their true intentions.. who would've told him if he didn't agree to Finn that day to travel here. Even tho it's in Bragi's best interest to decline the offer of becoming the next Supreme Kai, it was still a god sent that Atticus was able to meet him and be able to warn him of the truth.
Atticus places a hand on Bragi's knee as he still looks upon him*-

-*After Bragi shoved the old picture of his former universe back into his hands, he let out a sigh. He wasn't anywhere near mad at Bragi and completely understood his emotions. He had every right to be hurt, confused and especially angry at him for slandering the names of people he looked up to all of these years.. why if Atticus was in his spot he would've probably reacted quite similar. There wasn't any bone in Atticus that expressed any distaste in what Bragi was saying to him, it was all valid coming from this young Kai's perspective. still after all was said he remained to keep his sympathetic look at Bragi*-

Ogmios is a powerful deity who was likely worshipped by the Celtic of modern day France. According to Lucian, a writer of the second century, Ogmios was the Gauls's version of Hercules. Lucian often described Ogmios as older than Hercules, carrying a bow, wearing a lion's skin, and having chains that ran from his tongue to the ears of his followers. Ogmios is thought to have willing and loyal followers, despite the chain observation. I will not be going into any details about Ogmios's myths because they are heavily linked to Ogma who is an Irish pantheon. The Irish/Scottish pantheon is closed by blood, though Celtic myth is rather open (from my understanding/reading). I am unwilling to step on any toes, if you are interested in Ogmios's/Ogma’s myths, by all means, try to see if an Irish witch here is willing to share! IN MY OPINION Ogmios in a chart can represent a) where you are compared to another similar too you though you both come from different backgrounds, b) where you have a hero complex, c) where you have a lot of loyal followers who will do whatever you ask of them, d) where you are eloquent, and/or e) where you have the power to influence other people's thoughts.

Name: Bragi
Age: Over 5000 (equivalent to a 15-year-old)
Gender: Male (he/him)
Species: Shinjin/Core Person (I lovingly call them fruitboys)
Height: 5’8”
Likes: fashion design, sculpting, sweets, stickers, and chess
Dislikes: dirty things, math, sports, self-absorbed people, and coffee
Fears: Failure, abandonment, tight spaces, bugs, most animals actually, thunderstorms, sharp objects, and mortality (mostly his friends’ but also his own to a slightly lesser degree)
Personality: At a glance, Bragi seems pretty cool. Downright perfect, even. He’s incredibly intelligent, powerful, and artistically inclined for his age, and overall tends to be very polite and proper. However, it doesn’t take long before you realize he’s not quite as put together as he tries to be.
You’ll find he’s incredibly fussy, melodramatic, and full of himself. His behavior and his interests tend to be pretty childish, and he often takes things to absurd and embarrassing extremes because he’s not very good at social nuance beyond superficial politeness. However, underneath all that is ultimately an anxious, well-meaning kid who’s trying to become a better person and figure his life out, but is often just hampered by his own impulses, trauma, and the curse known as Being 15.
Background: Bragi hails from Universe 5, one of the four best universes out of the existing twelve, and like any other Core Person, he was born the fruit of the World Tree. Though he was born from an ordinary fruit, and not the golden fruit that would have automatically put him on the path toward becoming a Supreme Kai (a fact he’s rather sore about), he was still blessed with a great deal of natural talent. Talent, that, in the case of many a gifted child, became more of a curse than a blessing.
He was placed into advanced education and training not too long after he began schooling, but the workload proved to be incredibly demanding, leaving him incredibly isolated from his friends, who began to believe that he thought he was too good for them now. He was utterly devastated by these accusations, as he was actually incredibly overwhelmed and too afraid to quit in fear of letting people down. However, there was so much distance between them that it was far too late to try and explain all that. And so, he decided to lean into those accusations, throwing away his attachments and throwing himself even deeper into his studies (and the accolades and attention that came with it).
Eventually, though, his work paid off and he caught the attention of his universe’s Supreme Kai, Ogma, who offered him an apprenticeship to become her attendant. Of course, part of his duties as attendant would be to take over her role as Supreme Kai in the unfortunate event something happened to her, so in a roundabout way, he was still on his way to potentially becoming the next Supreme Kai. And that fact worried Ogma greatly.
While he did his tasks well, his attitude was concerning. His ego was huge, and his feelings towards the mortals they were supposed to be cultivating were that of revulsion and fear (even if he would never admit the latter). She didn’t want someone like that to be potentially running her universe (she knew about what happened to Universe 10--) and so she took matters into her own hands: she greatly suppressed Bragi’s powers and sent him to Universe 7 (our much, much shittier universe) to go work in the Time Patrol. Not as a patroller, mind you—Time Travel is taboo for gods, after all—but as a janitor (or in his own words, “Maintenance Specialist”) until he could learn to better understand mortals (and perhaps, himself).
Will he learn to get over himself so he can go home? Will he even want to go home by the end? Find out on the next episode of SAD FRUIT THEATRE!
