Things learned about Raiden in intro dialogues part 2: Injustice boogaloo.

There probably won’t be as much for this one since there are a few recycled lines.

Without further ado, let us begin!

Vs Sub Zero:

He believes That their Kombat brought them to this universe.

Vs Swamp Thing:

He wants Swamp thing to aid in the realms protection and ,when he is declined, warns him that they must fight together or he will die alone.

Vs Cyborg:

He isn’t very knowledgeable about the universe he’s in but believes that vengeance has hardened Cyborgs heart.

He seeks allies against Shinnok.

Vs Catwoman:

He wonders why He and her must fight.

HE IS FREE OF MORTAL TEMPTATION (sorry, I just love that line so much)

He swears he will return what she has stolen.

Vs Flash:

He thinks Barry has stolen lightning from the Elder Gods.

He makes clear that He wants allies not minions.

Vs Green Lantern:

He still has visions of the og timeline and has mentioned this to Hal.

Vs Harley Quinn:

Remarks that in all the realms He has never seen anyone like her.

Is not a sorcerer/Wizard.

Vs Batman:

He warns him that his life as Batman darkens his soul and that he would spend eternity in the netherrealm if he continues.

Offers him the aid of the White Lotus.

Vs Red Hood:

Warns him that the Lazarus pit corrupts the realms life force.

Notes that Jason’s sarcasm only hides his despair.

Vs Superman:

He once respected Superman after they fought together in mk vs dc but that changed after seeing him in this realm

Vs The Joker:

He describes Jokers evil as seeping from every pore.

Knows that not even the Elder Gods can heal Jokers mind.

Vs Atrocitus:

Sees Atrocitus as a beast.

Admits to him that the pain of Liu Kangs loss still haunts him.

Vs Gorilla Grodd:

He sees him as a dirty beast.

Threatens to drop Grodds head at the end of his throne.

Vs Cheetah:

Notices that Cheetahs power comes from divine hands.

Vs Deadshot:

Shows off his wit by telling deadshot his gun skills don’t match those of Erron Black.

Calls him a dishonourable assassin.

Vs Poison Ivy:

Tells her that she has stolen the Greens power.

Would rather banish her to the netherrealm than receive a kiss from her.

Vs Starfire:

She reminds Him of Queen Sindel.

Describes her heart as “Pure as the Jinsei.”

Vs Black Manta:

Sees Manta as irredeemable.

Is aware of the effects of lightning has on water.

Vs Supergirl:

Sees her untapped potential.

Vs Green Arrow

After Ollie says he has the power of love Raiden remarks that he will be a worthy opponent. I’m guessing that was sarcasm but either way it’s entertaining.

Vs Doctor Fate:

Mainly recycled lines.

Vs Blue Beetle:

Apparently the Elder Gods want Raiden to bring Beetle to Earthrealm.

Vs Firestorm:

Believes the Shaolin would welcome them.

Vs Aquaman:

He remarks that It is unwise to fight the God Of Thunder.

Knows Aquamans real name.

Vs Black Canary:

Notes that her wisdom is worthy of the Shaolin.

She also reminds Him of Queen Sindel.

Vs Darkseid:

He Realises that Darkseids evil threatens all realms and swears to end it.

Vs Wonder Woman:

Recycled lines again.

Vs Black Adam:

Comments on Adams Hubris being his undoing.

Vs Captain Cold:

Responds to Snarts blunt threat of punching Him in the face with extreme Doubts.

Vs Robin:

Calls out Damian on bringing Bruce only sorrow by leaving.

Has only known Damian for four seconds and is already tired of his bragging.

Vs Scarecrow:

Recycled lines yet again.

Vs Bane:

Has knowledge of Kano apparently recruiting Bane into the Black Dragon. He vows to not allow the Clan to corrupt the world.

Vs Braniac:

Vows to return the worlds Braniac has “collected.”

Vs Raiden:

Wonders if the fight between them is Shinnoks doing.

Raiden mainly has five different types of intro dialogue:

I am the God Of Thunder and this isn’t a boast it’s a fact.

What Elder God did you anger to make your realm become like this?

You remind me of people back home.

I miss My friends.

I need your help, you in?

That’s what ya gotta do with lore that can be messy!! Just take whatcha like and make sense of it! I actually wouldn’t mind Grandpa!Liang in the OG timeline. But I have beef with because 1) it’s weird to have Kuai become such an old man, yet none of the other characters age/they’re still young. And 2) This is just a theory, but I honestly feel they were milking off of Raiden’s popularity. Because if you noticed in the OG series, they made A LOT of powerful characters with long gray hair (bonus points if their power is Godlike and they’re old af) and considering Kuai was both old, (at one point, even had a long gray ponytail) and the Dragon medallion granted him “Godlike powers” I’m assuming they were just trying to make Kuai like Raiden and the other old God characters. Which makes me >:/ 

And an interesting fact about the ice arms, is that Kuai’s had ‘em since MK4, I believe! (And had them all the time in his design in MK Deadly Alliance and up) The wikia said the blue arms was a result from the Dragon Medallion, I think... but that’s not true -- considering his Shaolin Monks had (which was supposed to be set between the events of MK1 and MK2, but not lot of ppl consider it canon) so I’m not sure how true that is, I think it’s just a random design choice.

(I dunno why, but I really love his SM design, even though it’s kinda simple and basic) For some reason, they stopped giving him blue arms in MK9 (even though he had them in the previous games, MK vs DC Universe) but he had them again in MKX (in variations) and for some reason... he doesn’t have ‘em at all in MK11. But for some reason, MK11 was giving Kuai a far more normal/human like design. (Brown eyes, regular arms) which honestly... :/ I’m not too big of a fan of. I know Kuai is human, but he’s only half. And I dunno, I personally just LOVE the idea of his design demonstrating that he’s not fully human!!

So yes, in my eyes -- Kuai always have blue arms and eyes, as well as being (or at least looking) the appropriate age depending on what year the game is based in. (Such as him being young in MK9, and being old in MKX/MK11, because everyone else is old and it’s in the future!)

for no other reason than I just want to constantly spout my opinions, I’m gonna rate every scorpion in every mainline mortal kombat game

first, mortal kombat (the og)

Can’t forget the classics, and something had to be special about this for him to quickly become one of the most iconic mk fighters, but looking at it without that bias at the end of the day, it is just a guy in a generic ninja costume. 6/10

mortal kombat 2

I appreciate the attempt at slightly more detail, and the change to a tight hood which makes him look a little bit better imo. Still doesn’t have any unique flair though which is an issue inherited from his mk1 design. also 6/10

mortal kombat 3

this design is where they clearly had finalised the general structure of his outfit, the detail is great, but it still lacks distinction from the other ninjas in the game. 7/10

mortal kombat 4

Mk4 took the leap to the third dimension and finally gave scorpion some unique ornamentation, officially ending his days as a yellow palette-swap, but it’s really not his best design. 4/10

mk deadly alliance

Obvious huge leap in the graphics quality aside, this design is the most unique so far. A lot of classic elements are involved, but not without its share of new details. A little heavy on the skulls, but all in all a pretty good scorpion. 9/10

mk deception

(Best picture I could find) Deception hands-down has my all time favorite scorpion design. They narrowed his design down to one tasteful skull, focusing his motif more on flames rather than bones, which i like. Some people may disagree, but I like that most of his signature yellow comes in the form of gold metal armor, that might look gaudy to some, but I think it looks very good. That, plus the better shaping on his hood, total out to a solid 10/10 from me

mk armageddon

(Also best picture I could find) listen. I can see what they were going for with this sort of return to form, returning to his mk4 design but honestly? Not a fan. I never liked that mask shape, and the skin tight head and chest wrap just look awkward and uncomfortable. 3/10

mk vs dc

I don’t actually know if mortal kombat vs dc universe is considered a mainline game, but I’m counting it anyway. Let’s just get it out of the way now, I hate the mask, it looks awful. not a ton of stuff to talk about specifically, but just generally the proportions are weird to say the least, they went back to using a bone focused design, weird skin tight leggings plus the same head and chest wrap issues from Armageddon make for a bad design. 1/10

mortal kombat 9

They managed to take the mk vs dc outfit and make all the bad things about it worse. 0/10

mortal kombat x

Classic. Simple. Detailed but not so much that it’s busy. Missing a lot of the flair that, say, deception scorpion had but it makes sense for the games setting. I like it 8/10
