so i've been working through the tged webnovel (really, really slowly) (but im getting there!) (it's been REALLY fun i love their banter so so much i wish there was more of it in the webtoon)
and i keep thinking back to chapter 43, where lloyd is surveying the wetlands and arcos comes with him
i don't really have much new insight, i just think about their interaction in this chapter a lot, especially since it's one that doesn't show up in the webtoon adaptation
arcos going out of his way to spend time with his son, and making him a lunch that he knows his son loved, all as an unspoken apology
because "how could he", right? how could a father hate his son and only start to love him again when success has been found? that's so haunting to realize; that someone you loved so much, someone you raised and nurtured, someone you knew the favorite foods of and why, could become someone you hate. and then, the son you once raised, the son who became a stranger, went and grew up without you.
did i give up too soon? did i abandon my own son? ... what kind of father does that? ... right?
and so he does what he can to offer repentance. he takes time out of his day to engage with what his son is doing. he shows that he still remembers his son, the boy who would rather eat boiled eggs and tomatoes over any other dish. he offers it all in a basket, carrying the love he feels he should've given to lloyd a long, long time ago.
... and it's not even the original lloyd frontera who receives it.
we don't get to know what suho is thinking in this moment, but i think his silence speaks volumes.
... because "how could he", right? how could this fraud in another man's body accept this silent apology that isn't truly owed to him? this man, this baron, this father, is asking for forgiveness when he had every right to be angry with the original owner of this body. and he doesn't even realize, because how would he possibly know his original fate? only you do.
this wasn't meant for me ... right?
but suho doesn't reject him, either. he doesn't interrupt arcos, he doesn't leave. they sit together and eat boiled eggs with honeyed tomatoes in silence.
it makes me wonder what suho is thinking about, what he's feeling, what he's remembering...
because (and call me crazy, call me speculative) heaven knows the love language of an asian parent.
here's some cut fruit. here's your favorite snack. here's dinner. i've brought it here to you.
you're working so, so hard. i'll support you, i'll be here. don't worry about anything else, just keep growing.
i love you, i love you, i love you, attached to every plate.
"this was your favorite food when you were young. ... i should have given you as many boiled eggs and tomatoes as you wanted."
and again, it's a little bit of speculation from me, but i think that's why suho doesn't say no, why he lets arcos make this apology. it's a piece of what he misses most.
and so they both leave a little bit healed. "the basket was lighter on the way home. and albeit very slightly, their steps became lighter as well." it might not have been between the right souls, but it's a weight lifted nonetheless.
... all this to say that i am absolutely MOURNING that this didn't make it into the adaptation!!!
i understand that with comic adaptations, there are going to be some cuts to ensure pacing and workload stays reasonable, but this would've been absolutely devastatingly emotional (/pos) to witness visually,
because what would lloyd's (suho's) face look like? what expression would he make, can we visually see how he feels? and arcos, what does he see when he looks at his son? fatherly love and solemn regret, painted all over his face, what does that look like to the adapter? to the artist? to us?
and in general too, we lost the characterization and relationship of arcos to suho; i really, really wish it made it in :(

i also like to think that as children javier and og lloyd got locked in a toxic cycle where javier felt like he had to. make up. for og lloyd's bad behavior. like a part of him recognized that his presence in the household was causing og lloyd to act up even worse than he already did normally and he tried to make up for the trouble he 'caused' by being as good of a kid as he could. and this in turn made og lloyd hate him even more because he saw it as an attempt to make him look like a worse son by comparison and that made him act up even more. and then the cycle repeats.
#i talk a lot <3#tged#javier asrahan#og lloyd frontera#also. at the beginning javier's perfect behavior was definitely also him trying desperately to make him staying with the fronteras worth it#to arcos and marbella. like. he's painfully aware of how tenuous their relationship truly is and he's terrified he'll lose his second home#because him being there is causing more troubles than he's worth#so he thinks that maybe just maybe if he's a good enough kid if he makes them happy enough that will make it worth keeping him around#of fucking course sending him away was never even an option to arcos and marbella but he's a kid and he lost his parents#and he was left to fend off for himself for a good amount of time so he's just. scared. he won't be good enough to keep.#if he's anything less than perfect.#he would eventually grow out of that but the impulse to be a good kid so he can make the fronteras happy never really goes away#it just shifts to him feeling guilty he caused them more trouble with og lloyd and feeling like he has to make up for it#THIS IS NOT CANON I'M JUST MAKING THINGS UP DO NOT FUCKING @ ME#og lloyd was truly terrible tho that one is actually canon lol

y'all should read rebar by @/jessepinwheel, it's about an au where suho can see og!lloyd's ghost and it's very well-written!
some fanart of the last chapter where javier is very confused about suho:
some design notes:
to differentiate the two lloyds, I decided to draw og!lloyd with the early webtoon hair (episodes 1 - 14)- :P honestly, he somehow seems more like a punk that way, which fits.
I drew suho's sword pommel like that cause it looks vaguely like a shovel handle lol-
EDIT: guys, I actually went back and fixed the hands cause they were bothering me so much,, (also I forgot to fill in suho's pants LMAO-)

what is this.
Seriously, like, what on earth is happening. What on earth is happening here. I thought it would turn out better, but no, I raised my hopes too high.
How they portray og Lloyd's character??? Like, god excuse me Lee Hyunmin-nim, but what the hell??? Are you? ???????????
At first, I didn't think it would be this bad. What makes you think that Lloyd's mistreatment of Javier for so long was simply because he didn't know what to do when he was a kid, and he always wanted to be Javier's friend? I was quite interested in Lloyd's character. So this is it. FOR GOD'S SAKE, WHAT THE HELL??????????????
It was almost good, because, of course, he felt inferior to Javier when Arcos adopted him. It's normal for a 10-year-old to feel jealous and feel like they're about to steal their affection, especially if that child looks better than them in every way. And especially if they know that they will never be like that because they don't think they are good enough. Of course, that's just his own pov btw. I already know how much his family loves him. But that's what can happen, right? Because I don't like who I am also, and I know in my heart that my family loves me, but still🤷♂️🤷♂️
And yes that shit happened. So 😮💨
BUT IF. IF. If he could think like whatever you made him in the webcomic, he would have done it a long time ago. If this were his actual character's trait, he would have done it long ago. I didn't even think he'd apologize for something like this and in this way, you know? He always thought that he would change something in his life in the next life instead of. Yeah. Whatever tf he is doing in the webcomic here. I won't argue with you that Lloyd feels guilty for his family. But. Not with Javier. He hated Javier as much as Javier hated him, and he always would. I really wonder what makes you see Lloyd like that? Great. Now people who only read webcomic will 😮💨😮💨🤷♂️🤷♂️ SHAKING MY HEAD.
“I'm sorry I broke that wooden sword. Actually, I want to be friends." MY ASS what????? Is this where you sacrifice so many details for?? what??? I have so many things to say, but my God. I'M DONE.
And more than that, you changed Lloyd's will just because he was reincarnated as Suho? He doesn't want to deal with human stuff anymore, and he wants to be reincarnated as a whale because he doesn't like the stuffy atmosphere of hell. Yes, that's it. Easy and simple. The funny idea of someone who has been hiding in hell for a long time and fears of being eaten by the devil. But now you have changed him to want to be reincarnated as a human again to be a better person and work harder than Suho???
Excuse me, WHAT? He wants to work hard?? What makes you think that way out of all his character? Oh my god, they also cut out the scene where Javier, despite not liking Lloyd, wishes him a good new life. Huh? Okay??
THEY EVEN CHANGED HOW TIME RUNS. What is the point. WHAT IS THE POINT??? How important is it to change it? How important is it? From 1 month = 1 day to 1 month = 1 hour?? I wonder if there's any need for you to change it. Are you making a new story or adapting it?
But considering the fact that bk_moon approved every change, then it was...okay, never mind.
Anyway this chapter is pain hold your disappointment before reading it...😭
Oh yes, more than 3 times of Hellkaros thoughts of wanting to go home were completely omitted and now Javier and Lloyd were going to find the Dragon King. Great.
:(
I want my cookies back.
#tged#tged spoiler#ch 119#og lloyd frontera#I haven't even mentioned Hellkaros in this chapter yet...#IT'S.#Jqhxjwkqkjdjqk

does arcos and marbella stop og lloyd from drinking but og lloyd just keeps on doing it or they just let him be or they became scared of him? wait has og lloyd also been violent towards his parents and javier ? i remember he is with julian and the servants and everyone else
Literally the first thing we ever hear from Marbella is her asking if Lloyd went out drinking, and then with "heartache and worry" in her eyes saying "You should enjoy it in moderation. It is not good for your health." She walks away sighing. (In my eyes, its implied this conversation has happened before.) Like that's halfway through chapter 1.
In chapter 7, Lloyd asks Arcos for the soldiers to help him make ondols. Arcos is impressed by the business plan, but not his intentions. He brings up something that happened two years ago.
So they tried to believe in og!lloyd, but it seems it never stuck. He was never violent to his parents, but yeah, he wasn't kind to Javier or Julian. You must remember Javier and Julian are the same age, and Lloyd is 5 years older than both of them. So when the story of the wooden sword being broken in half happens...
That's a little 6 year old Javier crying because an 11 year old Lloyd broke it in half. There's no stories about being violent to Javier's person (I imagine Javier quickly becoming good at fighting would have scared a man like og!Lloyd off), but it's clear that Lloyd didn't change much if this is still the incident that Javier thinks exemplified Lloyd until Suho came around.
As for Julian, yes, Lloyd was violent to him. In fact, Julian's last time he ever saw og!lloyd was when he went to say goodbye before heading to the capital, and Lloyd simply throws a bottle at him, shattering it and leaving a tiny scar on his face.
Sorry nonnie, you will not find an og!lloyd defender here. I feel a sort of pity in him, as I think there was potential in him to shape up and face reality if he felt like it. But he never did. And the damage he does to family and citizens takes actual engineering miracles and life-threatening emergencies to clear up.
#you do not have to be physically violent for someone to dislike you btw#tged#anon if youre stuck feeling emotions for og!lloyd because arcos mentions he hated (despised? dont remeber the wording) og!lloyd i understand#but also. you can have multiple feelings for someone. humans are like that.#i got a few aunts or uncles i have Low Opinions on but like. i still care for them. if they need help i will offer.#these are not mutually exclusive feelings nonnie#the fact that og!lloyd hasnt been fucking disowned after treating their citizens (and brother!) like that means the Fronteras still cared

HOW DID I NOT REALIZE THEY WERE WEARING SIMILAR STYLES OF OUTFITS. omg no wonder everyone mistakes javier as the next count frontera 😭
Okay, I just gotta rant a bit about TGED, and probably will get other opinions, and that's great, so please share them!
Also, this is mostly my speculation, I have ONLY read the webtoon, and I haven't been able to find the novel properly translated to read, so have mercy.
SO. I know that og!Lloyd was a bully to Javier and Julien and all that jazz, but it looked to me that he was an alcoholic that desperately needed help.
He lashed out and thew fits to call the attention of his parents, that he was sure as hell they were going to replace him with Javier at any point. (Bc let's be real, the Frontera's affection seems heavily conditional)
Arcos was pretty okay by letting Javier do whatever he wanted, becoming a knight was his choice and he did everything to make that happen.
Then, we have Javier's duties, that was to watch over 'Lloyd', which that also more or less what he did because he wasn't with Lloyd all the time.
The Fronteras were more than okay by letting him leave their alcoholic son alone and drunk somewhere in town. Which was what killed him by falling n breaking his head,,,, that wouldn't have happened if Javier was actually there,,,,
The there's this detail I noticed in the imagery, in most cases it's suggested that Javier is confused as the heir and novel bc he's handsome, but that's not it.
it's bc he gives a novels profile. And the reason is his clothes.
Javier seems to be dressing like the proper heir, and wears the same style as Arcos Frontera, meanwhile Lloyd is left to dress like a commoner. That's why he's confused as Javier's servant, bc he looks like it.
Arcos Frontera didn't want to deal with an alcoholic son, he had enough on his plate by letting his estate become in debt and bc of his spineless attitude.
He was most likely replace Lloyd with Javier, or make Julian the heir. He was ignoring Lloyd, and just paying attention when he caused damage to the town. Because then it would come back to him.
He didn't actually cared if he died in a ditch.
I don't justify og!Lloyd's behavior at all, but I understand what was going with him. He was mad, he was jealous, and he was frustrated, and the only thing that made him feel better was some drinks.
He was so depressed he wanted to be blackout drunk, and that killed him anyway.
I'm honestly very much into how our!Lloyd has put such boundaries with the Fronteras, bc he's a guest in his own home. He wants to lazy around, but he doesn't actually do it at home, he did it once and immediately got an excuse to go out and work.
But anyway, this is such my own analysis on the matter, I find absolutely fascinating the takes this webtoon has taken over the Isekai trope, and how that affects to those around the mc.
#honestly this just gives me so many ideas#like maybe baby og lloyd insulting javier by saying he's just some commoner who won't ever be arcos's real son#and then baby javier retaliating by sourcing good-quality fabric and stuff to dress up just like arcos#arcos doesn't notice bc he's happy javier feels comfortable enough at the fronteras to dress up fancy like them#og lloyd deliberately choosing browns and plainer clothes bc he thinks that “no one will think ur a noble just bc u dress like father!!”#and then everyone starts doing the “javier is a noble and lloyd is a servant right?” mixup whenever they first meet them#and it's too late for og lloyd to start dressing fancy bc that would be admitting he was wrong and losing to javier#and then it's ingrained by the time ksh transmigrates and he doesn't care about fixing the problem by dressing fancier bc he doesn't want t#be found as a fake bc he changed his clothing style preference#and also bc he was from modern times where clothes are obviously more casual#lmaoooo

EXCUSE ME SIR WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT
this is literally not true what the hell is lee hyumnin doing
this whole conversation was completely out of character for both of them. in the novel og lloyd is way more crass and rude the entire time, he doesn't even ask about julian himself and he never expresses any regret or apologizes for anything he did out loud.
and he absolutely hates javier. i cannot emphasize this enough, it is never even hinted at that og lloyd ever cared the slightest about javier. nevermind that he wanted to be his friend or felt sorry about breaking his sword and harassing him as kids.
"Fine. Let's hurry. I never liked that jerk anyway. I don't want to bump into him"
"You don't like him?"
"No." Ghost Frontera nodded at Lloyd's question. And in the most obvious tone, Ghost Frontera retorted, "It's not fair for a human to look like that. I hate him. I feel like life is cheating me whenever I see him, and it pisses me off. I've been in a bad mood ever since my father put that bastard on my side to guard me."
does this sound like a man who just "wanted to become friends with him"??
this is history revisionism and i won't stand for it!!/j
and like. does this really look like a kid who just wants to be friends
like. does it.
again javier is six years old here. he saw his parents die in front of him a year ago and then spent an entire winter on the streets fending for himself and is just now finally settling into a new place that was supposed to be safe for him
he looked like this
look at him. he's a baby.
they're not even the same age!! og lloyd is five years older!! there was never a point in their relationship where og lloyd wasn't just a bigger and older kid harassing a child five years his junior!!
and he didn't feel sorry about it. at least not enough to make amends or even apologize.
and the problem with making og lloyd more sympathetic is that it undercuts just how much he'd fucked up. it makes it look like it was just a misunderstanding and that everyone should've just tried a little bit harder to understand him when no!!! they did try they did love him he just didn't care about it!!
and it's especially egregious when the webcomic seems hellbent in making lloyd look like a total dickhead at every moment possible!
making him kick og lloyd into the reincarnation gate??? telling him he sounded pathetic and didn't want to hear him for another second????why are you making your protagonist so fucking unlikable??? what's the fucking purpose of that???? how come the character that acts like a total asshole in the novel gets to be sympathetic in the adaptation but not your fucking main protagonist??????
that's the main issue actually! making og lloyd more sympathetic always seems to be at the cost of making everyone else look worse which fucking sucks!! because he's not meant to be like that!!! that's not the point of his character!!!
not to mention that they completely rewrote og lloyd's wish to not be born as a human in his next life??? like??? at this point you're just. making shit up. not even trying to follow the original source.
this episode was just. bad. nothing i can really rescue about it it's straight up just a bad adaptation
i hate it here lmao
#i talk a lot <3#tged#the greatest estate developer#ep 119#ch 244#og lloyd frontera#lloyd frontera#javier asrahan#how. can someone fuck up this bad. do they really just not care about the story at all. is that it.

NO NO WAIT GUYS. I HAVE AN AU IDEA; Original Lloyd but he's soon reincarnated as a baby right after Kim Suho took over his body, so two years pass and then the parents just say "fuck it" and abandon this toddler (Og Lloyd) in front of the Frontera door and then boom, accidentally get adopted by Lloyd (Kim Suho) and Javier.
Javier thought Og lloyd was an innocent small child so he spoils him a lot.
Don't even ask about the count and countess they'll be ecstatic to have a grandson who acts like Og lloyd already.
Lloyd (Kim Suho)'s hair keeps getting tugged by this toddler but he thinks it's just what toddlers do because they're curious.
Original Lloyd however, is desperate in trying to let them know that he's the original lloyd and not the impersonator, as he was forced to watch his look-alike be lovey-dovey with Javier

you know, i really love time loops and things like that, so-
-why not regressor OG!javier, who is now living his nightmare over and over and over again. if he dies, he returns to the moment of his birth, and it repeats every. single. time.
death—regression, dies—returns, death—regression…
but the icing on the cake is not a loop of horrible lifetimes with scary events; javier physically can't change anything. he knows the future but can't prevent it from happening; this will literally break the world's rules, and everything will take an even worse turn of events.
javier is slowly going insane, tired of blood on his hands. he doesn't even count which life he is living now and doesn't keep track of where he is; javier either kills or waits until he can start.
he stops seeing the difference between reality and a dream.
he wants to at least take a break and inhale some fresh air—what to say, he doesn't have even a glimpse of hope that this nightmare will ever end...
...although javier is unaware that in the span of his lives, one error is going to be made: the pattern will break the moment kim suho wakes up in lloyd's frontera's body.
(and quite do not understand why javier is so different from the novel.)

Short fic based on my art from my dear friend @scifellgoddess:
Javier Asrahan sits down, curling into himself. His amour is cold and unfeeling, forged steels protecting his skin and trapping warmth. His cloak drapes over his form in a mocking pretense of cover, the fabric as bloodless as it is comforting. Javier feels strangely bare, almost naked, exposed, weak.
Even in this state, he still holds his sword, his weapon, his tool, and his only constant in life. His free hand can do nothing but clench harder into itself and he won't feel nails digging into flesh but at least his mind can conjure up the image of his heart, right there in his hand, still beating and pumping blood and mana despite it all, the only source of pain that still exists and will live on with him, being crushed into mush of blood and meat and nothingness.
Javier thinks of alcohol. He wants a drink, he thinks, after everything. A spoiled Young Master, he muses, will laugh if he ever hears that. The man, legs crossed lazily over the chair, will take one look at Javier's sorry state and drop the bottle he's drinking to the floor. He will then say "I am afraid that there is no more for you" and leave the broken shards and the spilled wine splattered on the wooden floor. And in that same beat, he will turn to the owner and ask for another bottle.
Javier can not see The Young Master's expression or his face. In that place, there are only angry lines and dark light, mocking even without features. He doesn't think it's a matter of memory, because Javier has had years to look at one Lloyd Frontera, and not once did they not meet eyes, even if only briefly. No, because Javier still hates him with all of his being and misses him just as much in turn. There is no lost love, he tries to reason, and yet, here he is, curling into himself in defeat, in victory and triumph, reminiscing at the reminder of Lloyd Frontera.
.
Lloyd Frontera watches as a man slowly approaches his direction. His armor drags behind him, heavy and bloodless. It seems to make him somewhat sluggish and tired, with his long dark cloak drapes along half of his side, matted with filth, drenched in sins. Lloyd doesn't say anything even as his gaze lands on a familiar head of hair, its color standing out entirely from the blazing red of Hell.
He does a not-quite smile, smirk, or grin, and lets his mouth settle on a grimace. Who would have thought, the Hero of the people, the Knight of Blood and Iron, just like his tasteless, crude, and brash Young Master, would one day end up in the deepest corner of Hell. What irony.
When the knight comes, he is unnervingly silent, his eyes unseeing of the Hell around them. Instead, he just sits on the chair at the other side of the table and curls into himself, expression unreadable. He doesn't seem heroic or strong now, Lloyd muses to himself. He just looks as much as a child as Lloyd has always deemed him to be.
Lloyd laughs, barely because it's hard to do so when his throat swells with blood still, and makes a show of swaying the wine bottle in his hand. He hums as it sloshes quietly against the glass, but he does not offer a mocking word or teasing joke to accompany the act like he used to do. Instead, he turns to Javier and drops the bottle, letting it shatter on the ground, pieces of glass flying and wine completely wasted. This seems to affect the Knight, a flash of recognition finally shining in his dark gaze. They meet, eye to eye, though Lloyd wonders if Javier is really seeing him or simply remembering a memory.
It's hilarious, witnessing the usual sharp and cautious Javier Asrahan become this mindless sheep, this thoughtless deer before him, like Lloyd is the start and end catharsis of all of his troubles and miseries. That's quite funny, for him to be the one minor detail that writes out the legendary tale of Javier Asrahan's life. Funny, indeed.
