There was a few reactions Sirius was more or less expecting. His mother being smug about having picked one of his cousins for him and being right, his friends being a bit offput and weirded out. He hadn’t been sure what she might say, but he didn’t try to hide the mark on his body at all either way. 

To him, it kind of made sense, she was one of the few people he still got along just fine with in his family, even if he was on the brink of being blasted from the tapestry for his love of muggleborns and muggles in general. She was smart, and pretty, and actually could carry a conversation with him that didn’t bore him out of his mind. 

Being so utterly and throughly rejected as a first reaction though, hit him harder than he expected. Had he imagined that she wouldn’t mind? Had he pictured a much lighter experience? He didn’t know exactly what he’d expected, but not this. It made something in him sink to the bottom of his being, it made something in him feel a bit hollow. He knew the feeling all too well, but it had never come from anything she ever did.

“I can’t erase this, idiot.” Was the first thought that slipped past his lips, his voice incredibly monotone, uncharacteristically so. The rejection he got from the rest of the family was enough for him, he didn’t really want to add her to that list, but if she preferred it that way, he’d put a wall between them too, harden his shell just a bit more, and defy even whatever higher power decided this type of thing for them just as he defied the rest of the world. 

“Well it’s not like this means you have to do anything. Go ahead and marry Malfoy or Dolohov. I don’t give a flying fuck.”

He didn’t want to be the one telling her, not while she was still in the hospital. Theodore had never actually spoken to Lavender, but if there was one thing that he could say with certainty, then it was that she deserved better than being pushed into a marriage with him, not after the war, not after what had happened to her. He’d been told, because he had to know as her future husband, and he was wondering just what his father had been thinking.

Maybe it was Wiliam Nott’s cruel humour.

A nurse was leading him through the hospital until they reached the room in which Lavender would be. The nurse knocked, but she didn’t wait for an answer, instead opened the door immediately and pushed Theodore inside. He heard the door fall shut right behind him and he let out a soundless sigh. This could only end horribly. He slowly stepped toward the bed, chewing on his lower lip. She still looked horrible, which made sense, considering that she’d barely even survived the attack, and that just made it so much more unfair to force this on her.

“Hey, Lavender,” he greeted her and stopped right next to the bed, close to her feet, crossing his arms in front of his chest. “I’m—a surprise guest, I suppose. So—surprise?”

“Fuck you.” He snarls - not even bothering with eloquence - that’s long gone carried away by the liquor and the lack of respect being displayed for his mother. “My mother is the Lady of Malfoy Manor and if you will keep a respectful tongue in your head when you speak about her - or you will not keep your tongue in your head at all. She has more refinement in her little finger than you have in your whole family.” He is drunk, you can hear it in the extra careful pronunciation as the threat spills forth.

“Cousin I’d most like to - fuck-!” He'd ben trying to put his glass on the table - staring at it intently like it was a precision surgery and just dropped it (and it’s contents on the floor). “’Ssss fine. Never liked that fucking rug anyway- whu- what? Why’re you looking at me like that? Oh fuck off no - that’s not - that’s not what I was saying. I mean, I know we’re fucking known for well... Fucking. But. I mean okay - like - yeah if I had to? I mean, Bella'd probably cut it off and Andy... Andy just looks like Bella. And they both look like my mother and - fuck no! At least ‘Cissa looks different. But I’m not gonna because that’s insane. And I have morals. And that’s gross.”

“ It’s nae much, but it’ll dae.” Eden said in a gentle tone as he tapped his wand on the door handle, it opening to a small, cozy flat. It was the calming, cool color of sea foam green, the walls reminiscent of the ocean, something Eden was so fond of. 

Upon the walls were memorabilia of his childhood with music records and guitars decorating the walls, posters of his favorite sports teams in the muggle world hanging alongside posters of Scotland’s Quidditch team. There were bookshelves filled with magic and muggle books alike. 

In the corner was a large television and a VCR player; a tall stereo beside it. The flat must’ve been bigger on the inside. Down the hallway in one of the spare room’s was Eden’s study, there a large grand piano nestled in the corner, several guitars sat upright in their stands, and upon the table closest to the door was a violin with violet trimmings. 

Eden wiggled his arms out of his coat and haphazardly threw it over the side of his recliner chair. He turned to Roph and smiled. 

“ Make yerself at home. Yer room is goin’ tae be the last won on the left, ye ken?”

Harry pressed a hand to his eye and then slipped his fingers from beneath his spectacles. It had been a long night and he was tired of the glad handing. His face hurt from smiling and his heart hurt from the earlier conversation he’d had with Ginny, who’d unceremoniously dumped him for some up and coming quidditch player on the Canons.

The fundraising gala was in full swing and he’d already made his public remarks, so Harry stole the quiet moment and headed out onto a private balcony to loosen his tie and grab a quick smoke, a habit he’d started after the last funeral he’d attended. He let out a soft sigh as he watched the smoke curl toward the stars. Unbeknownst to him, he wasn’t as alone as he thought.

A small smile appeared on his lips as Narcissa’s hand slipped into his own, and he squeezed it gently. He wanted to hug her, hold her close and never her go again, but he feared it might... overwhelm her at this very moment. After all, Remus and his father had quite literally picked her up in the middle of the night, practically kidnapping her. It was a lot to take in.

And yet, he leaned over and placed a tiny kiss on her cheek, as he always did in order to show his friends that he loved them and cared about them.

“I ─ I promise I’m going to explain why. It’s just ─ they didn’t treat you right, Cissa. I know you’re not aware but ─ it’s not normal, and it wasn’t your fault. You didn’t deserve any of it.”
