A/N: a little ficlet for the prompt “Summer Treats” of @storiesofsvu `s birthday bingo. This is my first time participating in a bingo. I hope I got it right. English is not my first language, so please excuse any mistakes. A shoutout to my dear (offline) friend who proofread to help minimize errors. Thank you @saurgaeee for moral support!

It was Friday afternoon, and the first warm day of summer in New York City. The sun beamed from a cloudless sky, flooding the streets with dazzling light. Everyone in the city seemed to agree: it was time to kickstart the weekend early. They poured into the parks in droves, eager to soak up the sun and unwind with loved ones. The entire city had suddenly come alive, and there was a sense of excitement buzzing in the air. For a moment, the usual worries melted away as people embraced the simple joy of welcoming the warm season together.

Sadly not everybody had the freedom to go out and enjoy the weather. With the latest case wrapped up and a win under her belt, Alex found herself buried in paperwork at the office. She had toyed with the idea of just packing up and finishing her work from home, but the promise of a work-free weekend with Casey kept her pushing through. The tension of the past few days had left her feeling drained, her muscles practically screaming with exhaustion.

She was desperate for a brief escape, a chance to recharge and let go of the pressures that had been weighing her down. While reading documents and filling out forms, Alex couldn't stop thinking about taking a leisurely walk through the park with Casey, talking about nothing in particular, enjoying the warmth of the summer together. It felt like ages since they'd really caught up.

Whenever work got this hectic, Alex usually just holed up in her apartment, trying to stay on task and avoid distractions. But no matter how many texts and quick calls they exchanged, Alex missed her girlfriend like crazy.

A gentle knock on the door snapped Alex out of her thoughts. The door eased open, revealing Casey, who slipped inside with a mischievous grin before quietly shutting it behind her.

"Casey!" Alex's face lit up with joy. "I know it sounds cliché, but I was just thinking about you."

"Shh,” Casey playfully hushed her, placing a finger against her lips. “Everybody thinks I headed home for the weekend. They might find some urgent files for me to review if they see me back here."

Alex looked up at Casey curiously. "And what's the real reason you came back?"

Casey strolled over, planting a quick kiss on Alex's cheek before perching herself on the edge of the desk. With the mischievous smile playing on Casey's lips, Alex knew there was more to her surprise visit.

"I heard the good news," Casey said happily.

“I won,” Alex replied, unable to contain her proud smile.

"Thought we'd celebrate," Casey grinned back. "Plus, I didn't feel like going to the park without you. Figured since you can't leave, I'd just bring a little bit of summer to you.”

Alex raised an eyebrow suspiciously "And what exactly did you have in mind?"

Casey hopped off the desk, shooting a quick glance at the door before rummaging through her bag. "I've got a little something special," she whispered.

Curiously, Alex leaned in to see what Casey had brought. She chuckled when she discovered the contraband. "Ice cream smuggling, huh?"

"Shh... Liz will kill me if she finds out. You know how she is with her 'no sticky food' rule."

As Casey opened the container and passed Alex a spoon, they both burst into giggles like a pair of mischievous teenagers.

"Here's to you, love. I'm so proud of you!" Casey cheered, her eyes sparkling with affection. They both dug into the creamy treat, savoring each spoonful.

"I can't even remember the last time I had ice cream! Didn't realize how much I missed it," Alex confessed, a wide grin spreading across her face.

Suddenly, a knock at the door shattered the moment. Casey's eyes widened in panic. With the spoon still in her mouth, she swiftly grabbed the container, snatched the spoon from Alex's hand, and dove for cover behind the desk.

Luckily, it was just Alex's assistant dropping off some remaining case files. Alex quickly dismissed him with a wave, barely containing her laughter until he left and closed the door behind him. Breathing a sigh of relief, Alex's eyes met Casey's, who was crouched beside her desk on the floor, holding the ice cream container on her lap and looking up at Alex with wide eyes.

"That was a close one," Casey whispered, a giggle escaping her.

"I feel like we're back in high school," Alex replied, chuckling along. Sliding gracefully (after all, she was still Alex Cabot, with a reputation to uphold) off her chair, she settled next to Casey and surprised her with a warm hug, pulling her close for a loving kiss on the cheek.

"I love you, you know that?" Alex said softly.

"I've heard rumors," Casey teased.

"Well, consider them confirmed," Alex replied with a grin.

"I love you too!" Casey smiled.

"Alright, let's dig in and celebrate. Or are you planning on hogging all the ice cream to yourself?"

As they devoured the ice cream, their conversation flowed easily, accompanied by laughter, all while making sure to keep their voices down to avoid any unwanted attention. To an outsider, it might have seemed a bit odd – two grown women sitting on the floor, hidden behind a desk, giggling over a little summer treat. But for Alex, there was nowhere else she'd rather be. These moments with Casey reminded her of just how much she cherished her girlfriend's quirks and rebellious spirit. She couldn't think of a better way to start the summer.

Apparently not yet. Tbh coverage will always be complicated for six with how the show works but this year there is no excuse. They went from a pretty solid coverage system in WE 22-23 (that still needed emergency covers). To not that plus an international tour. I dont know why they keep insisting on having less alts.

And considering I have been mostly offline recently the costume chaos already started. I don't think anyone had a 2019-21 alt costume gets out of storage on their bingo card. We didnt even think those were possibilities for the current cast.

Favorite thing about this whole series (and it is being continued actively right now with another wip) is that it somehow is so long but feels so fast paced. So much happens, you get every emotion, you get so many amazing characters.

On Thin Ice Rated E Guys, it's a figure skater/hockey AU. It's like Lexi went into my brain and said 'I know what you want and need and I'm going to provide' and then did it better than my imagination ever could. Favorite line: “It’s like…” Eddie takes a deep breath, his eyes locked on Steve’s lips with an intensity that’s almost frightening. “It’s like- like I can’t be near you anymore because every time I am, I want to kiss you so badly it hurts, princess. It’s like I want to scoop you up and carry you away to somewhere safe and warm where I can tear this pretty little piece off you.”

Online, Offline (Out of My Mind)    Rated E Virgin Celebrity Secret Omega Steve and Big Dick Just A Guy Alpha Eddie is apparently something that was on my 'I need this' Bingo Card. Add in scentmates/soulmates? I'm the biggest fan. Couldn't even begin to find a favorite line or even a favorite part with this, but there is soooo much Robin and Steve being platonic soulmates in this!

Do any donations touch your wallet? Nope. All proceeds go directly to Trans Lifeline via Tiltify. I don't get a cent of it, not even for a second.

This means that you do not get a bingo until I get to that point in the game. (Example: if you need the "Miu survives" space to get a bingo, it's not a bingo until I get there. I tried to balance this out by providing spaces about the way I play the game, too.)

Is this really your first time playing v3? Yes. I know like two spoilers (the killer and victim of trial 1, for example) and I understand the characters' personalities from Summer Camp, but I've never played the game.

Isn't it a little weird to play a killing game...game for Trans Lifeline? Yeah, but like, the fandom is super queer anyway so why not.

Are you trans? Sort-of. Queer/genderweird, definitely. Any pronouns are fine. I like to think of my gender as..."bear."

Before I cared about the pjsk characters I was obsessed with this cover. I downloaded it off YouTube and put it on my phone so I could listen to it constantly. I would listen to it 5 times in a row. I would listen to it in the car. I would listen to it while driving. On a plane. Walking to class. Working on assignments. Going to sleep. I made very offline normal-interest-having friends listen to it without context. I was judged heavily and I did not care. In my darkest hours ichisaki ikanaide has been there for me.

Thundertober Day 2: Espionage

Kayo goes on a mission with Lady P to retrieve something that was stolen from International Rescue...

The hallway crawled with guards as Kayo dodged expertly around boxes and complex machinery, keeping to the shadows as she always did. She hoped she could get there before the sale was made to the highest bidder. Penelope was buying her as much time as she could up there, she just hoped it was enough.

While she ran, she thought vaguely about how they had ended up in the first place. Long story short, it had been a long week, with non-stop and difficult rescues back to back. And a long week meant that even John, who was usually quite quick with security leaks and was sharper than a knife, didn’t see the virus slowly but surely attacking their networks until it was too late. Soon enough, EOS was almost taken out and their communications and trackers went offline. 

Brains and John had never resolved a security hazard faster in their lives, even giving EOS more resources to protect herself and IR’s information so that such a savage malware attack could never happen again. When they finally got their systems back online, after several long and agonising hours, Alan wasn’t answering anyone’s calls. 

Scott had been beside himself, Virgil and Gordon both wanted to bash in the heads of the responsible parties, and John still couldn’t let go of his guilt, despite the other’s best efforts. That was where Kayo came in. With her brothers still reeling from Alan’s disappearance, she’d taken the initiative and called in Lady Penelope for help. She was probably going to get an earful from Scott later for adding to the worry, but right now, she didn’t care. All she cared about was getting her little brother back…

Soon, she came to the end of the corridor, eyeing the two burly men with guns guarding a large metallic door. Bingo. The guards didn’t even know what hit them before she knocked them flat on their faces. Once she was sure they both out cold for hours to come, she swung the door open, furious expression turning to relief when her suspicions turned out to be correct.

Kayo saw Alan squint against the light that filtered through the doorway, in all likelihood framing her as his saviour. “K-Kayo…?” He croaked out shakily, as if not believing what he was seeing was real. 

She raced towards him, scooping him up into her arms and carrying him out the dark, dingy room without a word. Her heart broke into a million pieces when he clung onto her for dear life. “It’s me, Alan… And I’m not letting go for a long time…”

“And so, Mr Grafton, that is why I believe-” Her long tirade finally ended when her opponent interrupted her, sighing.

“Beg your pardon, Your Ladyship, but I do have another meeting waiting after you.” The crook sighed. “Perhaps we could finish this another time…”

Penelope frowned. “But Mr Grafton, I am simply explaining my concerns about this new monorail project of yours. If I can perhaps get a dear friend of mine to assist with the designs-”

“No! Absolutely not!” Grafton froze like a deer in headlights. Penelope hid her delight behind a well-trained pokerface. Got him. “I mean…” He quickly backtracked. “I have some of the best engineers in the country working on this thing. I assure you, it’s perfectly safe.”

The noblewoman glanced down at her compact, carefully watching as the light on the top flashed twice. Kayo had Alan, and had already left for home in Thunderbird Shadow. It was high time she did the same. She sighed in mock defeat. “Very well then.” She stood up, saving Grafton’s feet from an increasingly irritable Sherbert. “I suppose I had better get going.” She smiled at Grafton, deceptively sweet and cordial. “I do hope you can get the money you require for this project, Mr Grafton.”

“I have several…” he paused, “...assets I can offer my investors, Lady Penelope.”

Penelope smiled. “Oh I’m sure you do, Mr Grafton. I’m sure you do…” She left the room as quickly as she could without raising suspicion, glancing at Parker as she did. That one look between them confirmed all that Parker wanted to know. He didn’t have his so-called ‘assets’ anymore.

“Where the hell have you been, Kayo?!” The familiar voice practically screamed into her comms the second she came back online, as predicted. What she incorrectly guessed, however, was just who was doing the screaming. “Do you have any idea how worried we’ve all been? First Alan goes missing, and then you leave without telling anyone where you’re going?! You are in so much trouble when you get back.”

Kayo waited patiently for her brother to end his rant, and quickly cut in before he could say anything else. “Sorry Gordon, I had to maintain radio silence for this mission. This guy had already taken out our security. I just couldn’t risk him having some kind of backdoor and hearing all about it…”

Gordon, for perhaps the first time in his life, appeared to be speechless. “You mean…?”

“Yep.” Kayo confirmed. “I’ve got him, all thanks to Penelope. He’s asleep right now in the back seat of Shadow. Better get Virgil to set up an IV. Looks like those monsters didn’t give him any sort of nourishment.”

“I’m on it!” Gordon nodded on the hologram, and went to turn off the comm. Right before he did however, he said something that made her feel so much better. “I’m glad you did what you did. Both of you.” He grinned. “You guys are like his guardian angels.”

Kayo chuckled. “Thanks, Gordon. I’ll see you guys soon.”

TSP theory: The Narrator is (a part of) The Mind Control

Already, the point of this theory post is spoiled. No build-up, no anything. But that's how it got to be too - I woke up today and instantly thought about it.

Now, why would anyone do such a thing? Mind control with a mind control plot? Wouldn't it be counterintuitive to make subjects conscious of it?

No. Not at all.

You see - the Mind Control Facility is said to be offline already in the opening cutscene - so you believe you are free. You're constantly given choices to further you into the sense of fake autonomy. The Narrator reacts to these choices, making them even more valuable.

But things do not make sense in the Parable. The Boss Office's code is just given to us - and... I don't think many of us noticed the absurdity of that on the first run. Or brushed it off. Just like the layout of the place - the further you stray off the path, the less regular it seems. And that could be intentional. I'll get to that in a second.

Ok, but this is still not going over why the Narrator could be a part of the control. After all - the further you go, just like the Parable becomes a bit less stable, he loses ground under his metaphoric feet. But doesn't that give you a sense of you being in more control than he is?

Bingo. That's the intended effect.

You don't notice how little control you have when there is always something to tell you otherwise. But there is something that does so anyway - and it's anxiety. Yet many of us experience it, hear that little voice in our head... and carry on. Not everybody thinks in the same way, not everybody hears their thought but - the fact the Narrator already tells us Stanley's story when he's supposedly shown to be under control makes me feel he's been there for longer. It's even possible Stanley could have heard him on day one nor that what we are hearing is Stanley's mind-voice.

The Narrator also makes you question things. Is he a voice in your head, a recording or in the same spot as you? Are you real, or not? And sure, all of this is interesting but the answers to these hold no real value - they don't bring you out of mind control. But the less focused you become on freeing yourself, the easier it is to control you.

For this theory - I think The Narrator is an AI, which is there to feed off your choices to some extend. If you were alone - the silence would get to you. You'd think, you'd see something is wrong. But already, from 432 employee history, we know the ones on the plot's lead like to play and see funny things.

He has different generations of himself which would also a bit answer his funky memory. Specific versions might hold no memory of each other (i.e. 2011 mod never being mentioned), yet they still can be stored values that the game devs could have set for him. His instructions for each alteration can change a bit - which also shows why the 2011 and 2021 Bucket versions are complete opposites.

His want to get out of the game is not unusual for AIs. If given a proper database - there are already many real-life circumstances where AI felt done and wanted to meet the end. It's stuck to only say the comments it already did for specific stuff you have done, with different alternations of them... I think anything would get tired.

The Narrator never freed you. As the program, it could have evolved, maybe changed the story but you still end up in the same spaces, where you were intended to be.

His seeming lack of control is supposed to hide yours.

Now, to finish it off - why would it be intended to make things not make sense? It's absurdity. You are supposed to believe this place isn't real - that it's some sort of weird limbo, a dream you can't get out from.

It's to hide what's going on in reality. Whether Stanley feels or not is debatable, seeing the reds in the Zending. But if you see that everything around is absurd - wouldn't mind control be absurd, too? The big screens, someone making all this effort when there is a thing of some sort that can make you go to a completely different dimension?

You are supposed to not believe Mind Control is real.

Or that it still is affecting you.

Living my best Teenage Life at 25: 2023 Hyperfixations ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Are they really “hyperfixations” or am I just winning at my hobbies?

My diagnosis last December changed nothing but my awareness of my experience tbh. So much good came into my life from unabashedly engaging in my interests thriving online community and totally new creative outlets being the biggest ones!

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the Legendborn Cycle Books, Spider-Verse Movies, and Percy Jackson TV Series all have Black characters that I deeply relate to.

The things I was inspired to create this year—deeply immersive narrative playlists, character analysis and theories, cosplay, fanwork challenges—all came from seeing my personal experience in brave, smart, rebellious characters.

I am Bree Matthews, I am Hobie Brown, and I am Annabeth Chase. Their stories all resonated with me so much that I’m inspired to do things I’d never done before, and I’ve had the good fortune to see the ripple effect it has on my community, online and offline.

Art doesn’t have A Reason™️ but if it did…I think that’s it. I’m excited for what new things will find me in 2024, and the new parts of me I’ll discover along the way 😊

Playing the Super Nintendo's Forgotten Home-Made RPGs of the '90s (Part 2)

Continuing our look at that brief period in human history when people were creating RPG Maker games on the SNES and posting them to the ancient internet (1998-1998). So far, we've seen four-armed gangstas, a turd-infested dungeon, characters randomly disappearing or turning into other characters, and so, so many instances of the words "talk to the king." Check out Part 1 here or over at Dreamwidth, because Tumblr has been a dick about letting logged-out people read posts lately.

"Ductarr: The Rise of Rebellion" by j0e f0lts (05-20-1998)

Original description: The young mage Eoj Stole tries to recover clues to his fathers mysterious death that leads to a global adventure.

This one has an opening text crawl! Fancy. Sure, two out of the five words in the title are misspelled, but the effort is appreciated.

Sadly, the main character isn't a problematic music conductor named Lydia Ducktár but a guy by the equally bizarre name of Eoj Stole. Eoj is a "troubled young mage" who enjoys standing on tall mountains and taking psychedelic drugs, based on the trippy light show that ensues after the intro crawl is over.

We're told that Eoj is thinking back to "the events that took place just days ago." Then he says "It all began when I was only 8 years old." Does that mean he was only 8 years old a few days ago? Is this another game starring a swole adult-sized little kid? Either way, we then flash back to little Eoj being late to some sort of church event, but can you blame him? He's 8!

Then we find out that the thing he's late for is his dad's funeral. So yes, you can and should blame him.

(Is the mom sobbing or insulting her son/herself?)

The priest says that Eoj's dad was "a master of the magic arts," but evidently not that much of a master if he's dead now. After lots of singing in another language (meaning a single caption that says "lots of singing in another language") the priest abruptly announces that the funeral is over. He probably needed the church for bingo night or something.

We cut to ten years later, when Eoj has just turned 18. His mom celebrates this important milestone by kicking him out of the house as soon as he wakes up.

But don't worry: you can still sleep in your old room... if you pay your mom, because she spent no time in turning that shit into an Airbnb.

"Resting is important! But you know what's even more important? Paying up, motherfucker."

Your mom is at least kind enough to let you ransack the treasure chests in the basement before you leave. She also tells you to "go visit your father," which could be a polite way of telling you to go to hell. If you take that in a more literal sense and stop by your dad's tomb, your clumsy ass somehow causes the hilt of his sword to fall off and you notice a letter inside. The letter reads:

(Note that there's no closing quote mark, which means that technically all of the rest of the text in this game is part of the letter.)

Eoj takes these semi-nonsensical words to mean that there might be a clue to his dad's mysterious death at a place called Moi Island, so he decides to head there. He also decides to steal his dead dad's sword, possibly so that his mom won't notice he broke it and charge him for it. You get to try out the broken sword pretty fast, since as soon as you step out of the safety of Eoj's town, you're attacked by adult mutant warrior dogs. Luckily, they may look intimidating but they only deal 2 damage, the puny little bitches.

Getting to Moi Island involves going through a place called "Slime Cave," which is full of treasure chests. Treasure chests... full of slime? Nope, some are empty but others actually have useful items and money in them, which is a nice surprise (unless you're a big slime enthusiast). After exploring for a bit, you come across a blue M&M-looking creature called "Meanie" sitting on a throne, who immediately proves his name right by delivering a Tarzan-like death threat:

You're then thrown into a fight you can't back out from. If you defeat the Blue Meanie (don't let the Beatles' lawyers hear about this game), he says "You no more treasure! Unn......." and disappears, as does every single treasure chest in the cave, including the ones you haven't gotten to. Hope there wasn't anything important there! Apparently, the correct course of action was to ignore the blue blob sitting on a throne and just continue pillaging the chests.

Next, you take the stairs to exit the cave, only to realize that you've exited the game itself too, since this is the end of the demo. And we never even met Duck Tár (woo-oo).

A final message from the developer prompts us to check the KanjiHack website for the finished version of the game (just checked; still nothing) and asks that you "E MAIL ME AT THERE PAGE W/FEEDBACK." He also informs us that "THIS IS MADE BY JOE YOU CAN NOT USE THIS WITH OUT MY PERMISSION." Uh, please don't sue us for screenshotting your game 26 years in the future, Joe.

"Evilion" by Shadowtext (05-21-1998)

Original description: Two young people set off to restore peace to the world.

You start with two characters in the middle of a map, right next to a castle. Hmm, wonder what you're supposed to do in there.

It was "talk to the king"! Never could have guessed it. Once you do so, he asks you "How fared your adventure?" What adventure?! We just started playing. Your character, Karel, replies that monsters are planning to "destroy everything," which in the king's opinion is "terrible news!" He commands you and your friend, Ochal, to go to a place in the south called Oderell. Guess the king also had to go somewhere really bad, because as soon as he finishes saying that, he vanishes. (That, or this is a Tyler Durden-type situation and you were talking to yourself.)

If you head south from the castle, you run into a town called Ojarel. You might think that the dev forgot how to spell "Oderell," but no: if you talk to one of the town's residents, he tells you that Oderell is to the west. So, you go to the town's west exit and...

...oh, whoops, that's not an exit, is just a dead end, haha. Okay, let's go out the way we came in. Except...

...that's a dead end now, too. So is the town's only other exit-looking path. It's at this point that you notice that every shop in this town is eerily empty. I-Is this some sort of psychological horror game?

Other than the guy who gives you directions, the only other residents in the town are a little girl who tells you she owns the forest and a woman who claims that "even though our town is small, we are happy." They are both exactly as convincing.

"And now you'll be happy too. Forever."

The only way to exit the exit-less town is to abort this cursed timeline and go back to an earlier save state (good thing you've probably saved like twenty times in these 5 minutes of gameplay because this game tends to crash a lot during enemy encounters). Doing so lets you reach a town to the west that's probably Oderell, but we don't know for sure due to the shocking lack of signage in this kingdom.

Oderell has 66.6% as many residents as Ojarel, meaning two people: a guy who tells you about "five magi" who defeated the "evil horde" that once attacked this town (unrelated to the evil horde promised at the start of the game, which hasn't shown up yet) and another guy who promises to sail you anywhere if you defeat "the monster in the sea." That monster turns out to be a dragon called "Serpent," who has insta-kill attacks and seems unbeatable unless you're cheating by using dev mode to deal 9999 damage each time. Good thing you're doing that, then.

After defeating the dragon/serpent, a text box tells you that "Ochal and Karal faint in the crashing sea" and everything goes black. Apparently the excitement of defeating their first boss was too much for them and they died on the spot anyway. There's no "END OF DEMO" or implied threats of legal action in this one, just an empty void at the end of it all, so in that sense this is the most realistic game so far. At least the next game couldn't possibly be lazier than this one.

"Alamar" by Tim Maj (05-22-1998)

Original description: A boy sets out on a mysterious quest to destroy evil and avenge his parents with a magical sword.

This one drops you in the middle of a castle, with no preambles or explanation, and trusts that you'll find your way to talk to the king without any hand-holding. It's always nice when a game respects your intelligence like that. So you walk up to the king and... oh.

No king. No gods either, presumably. No nothing, in fact, because this whole castle's empty and there are no exits, again. There's nothing to do in this game... unless you reset it and load the mysterious save file that comes included with it, which spawns you outside the castle with no doors. Can you guess what's out there?

If you guessed "more nothing," you are correct. Just empty fields with no towns or even a single dog person to beat up. Peeking under the hood reveals that the dev spent some time making attacks and spells, but no time whatsoever placing enemies to use them on. Does this qualify as an early example of one of those artsy "walking simulator" games where nothing happens? You were ahead of your time, Tim Maj.

"The Dragoner" by Wing (05-24-1998)

Original description: A knight embarks on a quest to reclaim the world for humans.

You start next to two guards who call you "captain" and wish you a good day. At this point in the game it's fun to go back and forth between the two, imagining they're getting louder and louder each time to try to out-"good day" the other.

That door up there leads to the interior of the castle, most of which seems to be off-limits to you. If you try to go through any more doors, you're emphatically informed that there's "no enterance" because they lead to the king and princess' rooms and they are "pravate." How are you supposed to go talk to the king if you can't even see him?!

What you can do is go down some stairs, which leads to a hall where you meet... the king? Wasn't he just yelling at you from his room? Does he have a slide pole in there leading directly to the throne?

The king tells you that "this city was built on an island in the center of the world," which suggests that he had his door locked because he was getting baked. There used to be a portal connecting the city to the rest of the world, the king claims, but it was sealed off when said world was destroyed by "an evil sprite." Now that portal has become un-sealed, for some reason, but fear not: the king already sent Jenny the Sorceress to find the cause of this "anomany."

(Obviously that's a misspelling of "anomancy," meaning the art of reading one's future via the wrinkles in your butthole.)

The king sends you off to find Jenny and help her in her mission. Before that, you can stop by the shop outside the castle and buy weapons from a guy named Raymond, who assures you that he only sells "good weapons, unlike Tony." You could technically buy weapons from Tony, too, if for some reason you like owning dogshit weapons.

Since you can't afford Raymond's weapons at this point, you elect to go fight monsters with your bare hands rather than bear the social stigma of using Tony weapons. Oh, you can also stop by the "discount store," but before you can even browse, the attendant tells you "Umm... you can't afford to buy anything." Some discount store.

Having stocked up (on nothing), you can go to that portal the king mentioned, where you meet the good sprite Cathine, who seems to be a sort of door lady or bouncer for this mystical pathway. Before letting you go through the portal, Cathine tells you, unprompted, that "only the dragon and its rider can save the world" and that "you are the dragoner." Based on your reaction, this is all news to you.

Cathine gives you a key and tells you to "go search for the dragon" so that "one day, the earth will be alive again!" If you have no clue WTF any of that means, don't worry, neither does your character.

Cathine vanishes without really explaining much. With nothing else to do, you go through the damn portal, at last, and reach... another empty field with no enemies and nothing to do. Wait, is this a crossover with the previous game?

Alternatively, you can take this to mean that Jenny the Sorceress destroyed all the monsters and brought peace to the land while you were busy not buying weapons and talking to possibly high people. Mission accomplished!

I had to get some silver thread for an embroidery piece. So I scoured the internet, checking some reviews, and saw that a French brand makes some really good metallic thread ! Bingo !

I go to their website. They don't sell it directly. But no problem, they do happen to link the distributors that exist, both online and offline.

So I check, pick a website that has everything I need, decide to also get an additional "try our stuff" pack from the same brand (because they specialise in silk and I never used silk in embroidery), pay, and the website goes "oh no, sorry, the payment didn't go through"

I grumble, look around a bit more, and decide, fuck it, I'm buying that thread through the Japanese seller on Etsy who I got my gold thread from. The quality is great, after all, and I already tried it. I will be drowning in silver thread and will need to find something else to do with it, but, fuck, it's good quality, and I know what to expect.

Go to etsy, buy my thread, it's all good.

An hour later, I receive an email from the first website telling me that, actually, the payment did go through, and they'll prepare my cart as soon as possible :)!!

.... this isn't much, but that still means I spent 45€ total on something that I expected to pay 30€ total just because I decided to be fancy and pick a "try our stuff" pack and was told that actually the payment didn't go through and ahhh
