astro hypothesis: dress for the occasion
everyone is always mentioning to dress like your venus sign. recently, i have seen a lot of tiktoks where people are like dress like your crush/boyfriend's venus sign to look like his dream girl. and i was like what about dressing for the occasion? which brought me here! grab your venus persona and take a look at the houses.
5h - prom, dances, dates, and clubs
5h cancer (4°, 16°, 28°) and/or 5h moon: elegance is key. you might be drawn to long, flowy gowns with shimmery fabric. something light but glowy! often the fabric is dark (black or midnight blue) or slivery/white. a sweetheart neckline or off the shoulder cut tends to look beautiful on these people. often you are drawn to semi-sheer fabric as it adds some mystique to your appearance.
5h libra (7°, 19°) and/or 5h venus: light pastels or ivory are likely to grab your attention but a plain white or black dress is likely to give you that elegant/timeless look that you want most in pictures to remember your day (otherwise, you might take pictures in a colored dress and turn on a black and white filter). you want the wow factor! so a-line, a ball gown, or fit-flare dresses might be your go to look. a floor length dress is likely a must for you. silk, satin, chiffon, and/or organza are likely on the tags of these dresses even if you don't know what these materials are by the naked eye. dresses with a sweetheart neckline or off the shoulder sleeves are likely to make you feel elegant. you may like very simple accessories - plain earrings, a dainty bracelet, small pendant necklace, classic heels, etc. a v-neckline, bateau, or strapless design is likely to fit your elegance same could be said about a low back dress.
5h aquarius (11°, 23°) and/or 5h uranus: you are likely to be drawn to the blue family (sky, sea, ocean, water, turquoise, etc.). iridescence/holographic/shimmery material might draw your attention in a store. you often go for something very atypical in the store (might be from seasons ago - its likely the last of its kind). something a-line, flowy, and/or high-to-low might be of interest to you - the cuts of a dress bring interest to your favorite parts of yourself (example, maybe its a two piece dress). something high neck or off the shoulder is likely of interest to you as well. a loose braid and/or waves might be all you need to finish out your look.
7h - wedding attire
7h aries (1°, 13°, 25°) and/or 7h mars: as a bride you should be wearing pure white. nudes or off-whites aren't likely to hold your attention anyway. grab the pure stark white. it is likely that reds are going to be an accent of this wedding - roses, nail, polish, bridesmaid dresses, etc. but if you aren't in the wedding party, go for the red whether its a fiery red or a deep burgundy, its the way to go! no matter if you are the bride, the guest, or a member of the wedding party - you should opt for a fit flare dress or mermaid silhouette. or be really dramatic and go for a deep slit, a plunge neckline, or something backless! the devil is in the details too so things like careful beading, sequins, or embroidery should be something critical to your look (if not the fit and/or the drama). alternatively, minimalism/modernism might be something you enjoy for your look.
7h gemini (3°, 15°, 27°) and/or 7h mercury: as a bride, you might lean towards ivory or whites with an undertone of some color (like a blush). you don't tend to go for the traditional white color, in my experience. if you are a guest or in the wedding party it is likely you will find yourself in soft pastel colors! movement is of the utmost importance to you so opt for a-line or flowy gown. you might also enjoy wearing things that are asymmetrical - the hemline might be high to low or you might like the one shoulder strap design. these people also like details in their dresses whether it is lace, embroidery, beading, ruffles, tiered skirts, or glitter - the options are endless. chiffon, tulle, or organza might be the fabrics for you because they are light and breathable.
6h - everyday clothes and workwear
6h pisces (12°, 24°) and/or 6h neptune: soft fabrics like cotton, silk, or jersey in gentle, soothing colors such as ocean blues, seafoam greens, lavender, and soft pinks. loose, flowing clothes like maxi skirts, wrap dresses, or wide-legged pants that move gracefully. style would likely be bohemian and free-spirited, incorporating layers, delicate patterns, or subtle prints (florals, paisley, etc.). clothes would be cozy and easy to wear—think oversized sweaters, soft cardigans, and flowy blouses. might like jewelry that is delicate, handmade, seashells, pearls, and/or celestial themed.
6h libra (7°, 19°) and/or 6h venus: these people have a natural sense of style and an appreciation for their appearance. outfits would likely be classic, well-tailored pieces in soft, neutral tones like blush pink, dove gray, cream, and pastel blues. the fabrics would be light and luxurious - like silk blouses, cashmere sweaters, or satin skirts. well-fitted blazers, A-line skirts, and or high-waisted trousers make them look polished and graceful. they effortlessly blend comfort with sophistication. everything else is minimal yet thoughtfully chosen - delicate gold or silver jewelry, a stylish handbag, etc.
9h - graduation and religious events
9h taurus (2°, 14°, 26°) and/or 9h venus: elegance, luxury, and comfort ("it has pockets too!"). a sleek, well-structured dress in an earthy tones like emerald green, soft brown, or blush pink. the fabric might be luxurious, like silk, satin, or velvet. a silhouette would likely be timeless and flattering - a wrap dress or an A-line dress that cinches at the waist, emphasizing femininity and grace is well suited for this placement. delicate embroidery or subtle jewelry accents. understated but beautiful accessories, like a simple gold necklace or pearl earrings.
9h leo (5°, 17°, 29°) and/or 9h sun: bold, glamorous, and attention grabbing. vibrant colors like gold, fiery red, or royal purple. the fabric might be something that shimmers or catches the light, such as sequined, satin, or metallic materials. a silhouette could be daring and statement-making, like a fitted flair dress, a high-low hemline, or an off-the-shoulder design. ruffles, a thigh-high slit, or an open back, ensures all eyes are on them. accessories would be bold—think large, sparkling earrings, a dramatic statement necklace, etc. yes, realize what my sub-header is for this section.
9h sagittarius (9°, 21°) and/or jupiter: it's never just one graduation or church event and thus never just one dress/opportunity. the dresses would likely have a regal, flowing quality to it. jewel tones like deep sapphire, royal blue, or amethyst. flowy, A-line, and/or empire waisted dresses that gives a sense of movement. fabric might be lightweight and ethereal, like chiffon, tulle, or silk. intricate embroidery, beading, etc. accessories would be tasteful but luxurious, like a delicate gold bracelet or a jeweled hairpiece.

When it comes to fashion, selecting the right neckline can make all the difference in how you look and feel in your outfit. Your body type plays a significant role in determining which neckline will flatter your figure the most. Let's explore which necklines go hand-in-hand with different body types.
Hourglass Shape: If you have an hourglass figure with balanced proportions, you're in luck! Almost any neckline can work for you. However, scoop necks and V-necks accentuate your curves beautifully, while boat necks add a touch of elegance.
Pear Shape: Pear-shaped individuals often have narrower shoulders and wider hips. To balance your silhouette, opt for boat necks, off-the-shoulder styles, or scoop necks, which draw attention to your upper body
Apple Shape: If you carry more weight around your midsection, choose V-necks, scoop necks, or deep U-necks to create the illusion of a longer, leaner torso. These necklines elongate your upper body.
Rectangle Shape: For those with a straight, rectangular figure, try sweetheart necklines, cowl necks, or halter necks to add some curves and definition. These necklines create the appearance of a more feminine shape
Inverted Triangle: If your shoulders are broader than your hips, you'll want to soften your upper body and add volume to your lower half. Opt for scoop necks, boat necks, or bateau necklines to balance your proportions.
Petite Frame: If you're on the shorter side, high necklines like turtlenecks or jewel necks can elongate your frame. Sweetheart necklines and V-necks also work wonders to create the illusion of height.
Above all be confident ladies.👸

Timeless Trends: Top Necklines Defining Nashville's Bridal Fashion This Year
Fashion is a perpetually evolving concept, and your wedding dress is the best time to flaunt your knowledge about it. From styles to silhouettes to neck designs, they are multiple elements that combine together to bring the final look and feel of the wedding gown in Nashville.
Among so many designs available at the bridal shop in Nashville TN, it can get quite baffling to understand which is the one for you. But we got in talks with the head designer of Winnie Couture, a luxury store accommodating a wide range of wedding gowns in Nashville, and gathered the names of the top-selling neckline designs of this year.
Neck designs that are here to stay for a long time
Sweetheart Neckline: Lately, there has been a hyped penchant for wedding dresses in Nashville that have sweetheart necklines as it draws attention to the décolletage giving a sexier look. It is like the shape of a heart that is synonymously called a princess neckline as well. It is perfect for women who are seeking an outfit that can cast an illusion of a longer torso. In case you are a bit apprehensive about the extra skin show, you have the option to select semi sweetheart neckline, which is more modest. In this, the cut sits above the breast line, making it subtle.
Bateau Neckline: Also called as Sabrina neckline and boat neckline, it follows the natural curves of your collarbone and touches the shoulder. Pairing it up with a sleeveless style with a loose wavy bun will bring a minimalistic yet ravishing appearance.
Scoop Neckline: This is just a simple deep U-neck cut that has been ruling the collection of wedding gowns in Nashville. The most flattering aspect is that it can be stitched in all the depths, low or high. You can find scoop necklines at the backside, too, doubling the sizzling factor in your outfit. This is again an appreciating option if you desire to flaunt your collarbone tattoo.
Halter Neckline: This can be seen as one of the most celebrity-loved styles not only for wedding gowns but else wise too. Halter necks are like straps that go all the way to the back of the neck and have a low armhole cut. Women with toned arms should pick such gowns as they will flatter their assets.
Portrait Neckline: This is just like the off-shoulder neckline; however, there is an additional fabric. In an easier sense, it can be seen as a wide and soft scoop joining the tip of both shoulders. So, if you are arranging a formal event with a vintage theme, then this is your style. Go for it without a second thought. Moreover, for women who want to adorn an arresting necklace, portrait necklines are apt for you.
Winnie Couture- a store for the modern bride
Winnie Couture is being run by a power couple who has been presiding over the realm for over two decades now. The branch stores are open in 10 cities of the United States; Beverly Hills, Atlanta, Boston, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Charlotte, Nashville, and Columbus GA.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Shadow’s Showdown: Chapter 24
youtube
The Warpath.
Detroit. Faridah's apartment. Laura’s apartment.
Faridah panicked right after reading the message, but quickly remembered what Adam had told her. She immediately turned off her phone and removed the SIM card from it, hoping that this would prevent the message from being deleted, and Pritchard would be able to make good use of that line of text. It was hard for her to fall asleep, although a moment ago she was terribly tired. In the morning she pretended to Laura absolutely nothing had happened. They had breakfast together as usual and agreed to go shopping after work. Miss Werner thought about yesterday's conversation with Faridah once again and before she went to the company she dropped by her house. Laura no longer cared about staying at Sarif Industries anyway, although yesterday she had told Malik something else. She searched through the entire wardrobe before finding a sapphire, fitted, straight-cut dress on a hanger. In truth, the bateau neckline was not very good for this time of year, but she had a turquoise shawl somewhere that matched it perfectly. Fortunately, she hadn't put on much weight and still fit into the outfit. Laura stood in front of the hallway mirror pleased to find she looked like a million credits. She also found ballerinas in a similar shade to the dress and thick tights. At most, she would end up in bed with the flu, but Adam has to suffer.
Tumblr media
Sarif Industries.
Laura came to the company late, and yet she stopped in the lobby to admire a huge Christmas tree. It reached the third floor and was being decorated by a special team of people. It was kept in only red and gold colors. Laura felt depressed. She would not spend Christmas with Adam as she wanted, nor with Joe, because he had left her without even saying why. Most likely, she will be sitting at home with her cat, eating melted ice cream, and watching lions copulating on one of the nature channels. She also wanted to return the gift she bought for Jensen to the store, but somehow couldn't bring herself to do so. All the time she hoped it was just a temporary state and it would pass like the flu.
She quickened her pace, not wanting to think about being alone anymore. Laura went straight to her boss to see if he had anything for her. This time Pritchard didn't say a word. That meant it was much worse than when he was whining. She didn't get any files to correct errors either, so she stood for a moment, shrugged her shoulders, and went to her office. Laura was halfway there when she got a message.
"In five minutes at my office. A. J. "
At first, Laura was glad to see Adam, but she momentarily remembered that after all, nothing was the same as before, and she was back on the warpath again. Reluctantly, she reached the third floor, hoping it would only be a brief conversation.
"Hello, Mr. Jensen. Why did you want to see me?" she asked in a formal tone when he invited her inside. Laura didn’t forget about removing the shawl before entering.
The Chief of Security could hardly manage to keep an indifferent expression on his face as he saw her move softly and gracefully. He was sure Laura had dressed like that on purpose to punish him for the way he had dealt with her. He wanted so badly to hug and kiss her, but he couldn't. Meeting at the office was a risk anyway, but he needed to agree on some important things with her before leaving.
"Hello, Miss Werner," he replied in a husky voice, giving it a professional, reserved tone. "I won't take up too much of your time. I need to provide some information regarding our work in Washington," he explained matter-of-factly without undue coloration. "Of course. I was even going to ask for details, but there was no opportunity," saying this, she looked him straight in the eyes. There was nothing of the Laura he knew in her. Slowly she walked over to the sofa and without asking permission sat down on it, crossing her legs. "We decided to work there as two separate groups," Adam stated. He sat down on the edge of the desk, holding notes with guidelines in his hand.
The movement when she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear drove him crazy. With that gesture she emphasized her neck which he longed to kiss, inhaling the scent of her perfume. Magnolia with vanilla, he remembered it perfectly, although today she was like an exotic and dangerous orchid.
"So, Laura, you'll manage the Cyber Security experts, and I won't interfere," a chill could be felt in his voice. "My group will handle security. If consultations are required, you will be notified. We're leaving on Monday at eight in the morning. Faridah will take us together with the VTOL because there is no other option. We will discuss possible details on-site if necessary."
Laura nodded slowly, watching Adam's demeanor. In her opinion, he didn't seem completely uninterested in her, and he certainly wasn't disgusted with her either. She also noticed he spoke formally to her in one sentence, only to be casual in the next. She decided to keep playing, to which end she discreetly pulled her dress up to show him the blue garter on her right thigh. Jensen grunted as if to clear his throat and immediately looked at his notes.
"I guess that's all. The drone is waiting for you in the office," he informed in the most indifferent tone he could muster at the moment.
In fact, Laura managed to provoke him to such an extent, that in a few seconds he would thrust at her like a ravenous male, and not caring a bit about whether anyone could see, he would simply fuck her wildly and without restraint. Adam expected anything but not this. He counted on her rage, indifference, and resentment. Everything that happened right after they met. Meanwhile, she decided to torment him most cruelly. In his mind, he admitted that Miss Werner had chosen the kind of revenge perfectly well. The woman nodded slightly and smoothly stood up from the sofa. He followed her with his eyes on the way from the sofa to the door. He wondered how many more faces of Laura he would see. Each subsequent one drew him more and more, made him want to discover her secrets step by step, penetrate deeper into this world, touch it and share everything good or bad with her. If only he could somehow stop Damien. Meanwhile, he was in a trance caused by the steady swaying of her hips, perfectly balanced, perfectly feminine, not a bit vulgar. Ex-SWAT remembered how tactile they were, and how difficult it was for him to stop his hands on her belly back then. Adam felt he was losing his breath and prayed that she would be gone by now, stop torturing him. It had taken a long moment before he regained his balance, a moment that felt like an eternity to him.
About half an hour later he got a message from Pritchard, which contained the usual words he used, namely: "Jensen, get that fat ass of yours and come to my office. ASAP!" The Chief of Security assumed it was nothing urgent, but the sooner he responded, the fewer reminders he would get. Adam put the phone into the back pocket of his trousers, then reluctantly marched to the second floor. To his surprise, not only Francis but Faridah was there as well.
"Finally!" squawked Pritchard as soon as Adam closed the door behind him. "You were not in a hurry."
The Security Chief was about to answer, but Malik commanded him to keep quiet with a hand gesture.
"What is going on?" he exerted polite interest. "Faridah is the one to be thanked," muttered Pritchard. "But let her explain to you for what."
The woman was sitting on the hacker's desk with a broad smile on her face. Jensen was frustrated by the build-up tension like in a cheap game show. He crossed his arms over his chest, trying to refrain from commenting.
"I got an anonymous warning message yesterday," she began explaining but Adam interrupted her. "How is that possible?! After all..." "Calm down and let me finish," she said firmly. "It's unimportant how it's possible or other things like that. What's important is what I did with it. You had mentioned that your messages were deleted before you showed them to Francis. That's why as soon as I read it I turned off my phone and took the card out of it. I didn't have high hopes, but it worked!" "Faridah, what worked?" Jensen inquired as he walked nervously around the office. "I blocked that scum before it had time to erase all traces of the message and of itself. It was a very clever bug, I must admit, but not for Nucl3ar Snake. Determining the location of the sender was not possible, but based on what I gathered I will create..." the hacker mused, trying to find the simplest words." Something like a shield that will prevent access to your devices. Of course, we can't rule out the emergence of a better version of the worm, but that takes a lot of time so the chance is diminishing," Frank was silent for a moment, but only to change the tone of his voice to the everyday rude one. "By the way. Where did such an attack suddenly come from? Do you know anything about this?"
Adam hesitated as to what he should do, already opening his mouth to say something, but Laura had just entered the office. "It's my fault," she said shortly and with firmness. Hearing those words, everyone looked at her. "Or rather, my crazy ex," she clarified, standing next to the Chief of Security. "I inadvertently compromised the safety of this company's employees. If anyone should suffer the consequences, it's only me."
"Oh Laura, I was touched. Anyone has a tissue?" Pritchard said in a sarcastic tone looking at Malik and then at Jensen. "I'm sorry, but it didn't impress me, and as a result, I won't fire you for it. But you will get more dirty papers than usual, and I have absolutely no interest that you are flying to Washington. You have to correct them by yesterday," he growled, addressing the hacker woman. "And I advise all of you to immediately upload my program to the memory of your phones and other mobile devices. Or better let Laura handle it," he said in a commanding tone. "Meanwhile, get lost! Unlike you idlers, I have a lot of work to do."
Everyone left right after Frank prepared copies of the program for Miss Werner. She was the one who felt most guilty about Pritchard's mood. She had not expected his anger to be area-wide. Adam was right behind her, what as a result made nervousness consuming her even more.
"Just so we understand each other," she did a sudden U-turn, colliding with Jensen in the process. "I didn't do it for you," she hissed, trying to move away, but the man put his arms around her reflexively.
Adam raised an eyebrow and tried very hard not to laugh, but the woman's face made it terribly difficult for him so after a moment they both heard his muffled laugh.
"What are you laughing at?" she growled when she managed to free herself, but the Chief of Security only waved his hand sparingly, implying her to ignore his behavior. Of course, this angered her even more so Faridah had to make an attempt to ease the situation. "Will you show me the drone? I'm extremely curious about what functions it has," the Chief Pilot changed the subject, putting her arm around Laura's shoulder. "We can go even now if you have a moment," she replied, smiling. "Preferably everyone should go. I have to upload the program cause his majesty ordered me to handle this." "I'll come by in half an hour. I need to finish some things," the ex-SWAT replied.
Adam stopped and waited for them to leave, in the meantime lighting a cigarette. For a moment he wanted to end this farce, after all, Francis had written a program to block Damien's spying. Nevertheless, he restrained this intention with great difficulty. First, he should check if it works at all and only then try to solve this sick situation. When Jensen got to the office, he reluctantly turned to the paperwork. He yawned so hard that he got a cramp in one of the muscles under his chin and had to massage this place for a long time. Jensen remembered that something similar had happened to him when he was still working for the police, and his colleague had come into the room while he was hitting his chin to relieve the acute pain. The look on his colleague's face was hard to describe in words, and the fact that nothing similar had ever happened to him, showed his short work experience. Today, at least, no one came in. Jensen caught himself at allowing for too much freedom. For a moment he gave in to the dream that it was Laura's gentle hands massaging him under the chin, helping to get rid of the spasm.
Tumblr media
Laura’s Office.
Faridah really wanted to tell Laura that Adam hadn't rejected her at all, but she couldn't. She had to keep everything they talked about to herself and just try to manipulate the situation in the right direction. Why did it have to happen to them? Immediately upon entering the office, the hacker began unwrapping a large package. The woman's eyes sparkled with joy as she took out the device.
"Is perfect! I will be able to check the area, take photos, shoot videos and connect with A... Facility Security." "You deserve it fully," Malik admitted. "Listen, could you please upload this program for me? I have a flight in half an hour. When I get back, will we go to lunch? " "Sure, I completely forgot that I have a lot of work to do myself," the woman replied, taking her seat by the desk. "Give me the phone. It won't take long."Laura plugged in the device and quickly uploaded the appropriate file to it. "Check to see if it's working." "Mhm, everything is fine," confirmed the Chief Pilot. "Okay, I'm off. I'll knock on your door as soon as I get back." "OK, bye!"
Miss Werner reluctantly looked at the files Frank had sent her. He had been exceptionally cruel today. He gave her things to fix worthy of a hacker barely able to write a line of code. She brewed a mug of coffee and forced herself to work.
After several minutes, a knock on the door pulled her out of the sea full of commands. Unfortunately, it was Adam. She didn't know why she couldn't stay as cool now as she had before. Maybe it was the look in his gray-blue eyes or his not-so-formal manner? Maybe the closeness or the shadow of a smile. The man reached into his trouser pocket for his phone, then pulled a chair over and sat down next to her. Just like old times, Laura thought.
"It will only take a moment," she informed, feeling how difficult it was for her to get the few words out. "There's no rush," he replied calmly. He actually wanted to spend as much time as possible with her, and this was the perfect excuse.
Seeing the woman struggling with the cables and plugging up the phone, he placed his hand on her palm wanting to say, "Let me do it." Laura relented and trembled, which didn't escape his notice. Adam smiled in a natural reflex that he couldn't and wouldn't hold back. They both felt like they were back to the beginning or had forgotten all the bad words.
"One more second and... Damn it!" growled the woman when the computer suddenly reset itself.
Jensen pretended he wasn't the one who poked the right button with the tip of his shoe. He frowned in concern, still reassuring her that he had a lot of time and didn't need to be so worried. At that moment the Chief of Security had become convinced that Miss Werner had feelings for him after all, which, in a way, reassured him. Jensen noticed a strand of hair falling freely on her left shoulder. With a certain amount of hesitation, he reached for it with his hand, and with a smooth, gentle movement, he placed it behind her ear, slightly touching her neck in the process.
"Sorry, that was unprofessional," he muttered pretending to be contrite as she looked at him warningly. "Done," she said handing Adam the phone.
The man got up hesitantly and left her office at an even slower pace. Only after the ex-SWAT left could she let out all her emotions in one long and deep sigh. She tried understanding his behavior, this dissonance of feelings but she couldn't.
With each step, Jensen scolded himself in mind for his behavior. He gave her hope, completely unnecessarily. If Damien still had control over them then he only made things worse. Laura's death threat was stuck in his head with a rusty nail that was forming a festering wound. If that wasn't enough, Pritchard attacked him with messages insisting they have lunch together and discuss some very important matters. Of course, he chose The Jackdaw for this purpose, which Adam wanted to avoid at all costs. If Francis says that something is very important then 90% of the time it's about small things and only creates an opportunity to point out how little he knows about security and computers. Besides, the hacker never said directly that he wanted to go somewhere, he always covered himself with duties.

The Jackdaw.
The man checked again whether he had finished the more important of unimportant things and then left the company. Unfortunately, this time his favorite table was occupied, so he sat down at the one next to it. Hacker wasn't there yet, which Adam wasn't too happy about as he wasn't going to spend more time here than usual. Firstly, because of his work, and secondly, this place only reminded him of how badly he had hurt Laura.
"I already thought you weren't coming, Jensen," Pritchard muttered about ten minutes later, sitting down across from the Chief of Security. He was chewing bubble gum again, which was making Adam frustrated. Frank loved those sickeningly sweet balls that he bought from various vending machines. He even tried to get one set up in the company’s lobby, but Sarif adamantly refused. He explained it didn't fit with the company's image. Since then, he keeps chewing them and blowing balloons that pop again and again. Such is his mischief. "See, I surprised you," Adam replied calmly. "What did you want to talk about?" he asked, lighting a cigarette. "Washington. I have concerns about whether Laura will sink our company in the current situation. As you have probably noticed, she doesn't care about anything anymore. That's why..." "Enough..." growled Jensen. "First of all, Laura is responsible and will not turn this trip into a private vendetta. Secondly, I will be there with a whole group of other specialists. " "But..." the hacker tried interjecting. "If I have any doubts, however slight, I will contact you," he tried to reassure him. "All right, so be it, but if something goes wrong then the blame will fall on you," he warned.
The Security Chief thought it pointless to point out to the hacker, that Laura was part of his team and he would be the one to blame for any oversights or mistakes. Pritchard would do anything to emerge victorious from the skirmish anyway, so let him have the feeling that this is what happened.
"Of course, I take it all on myself," he relented while taking a drag on his cigarette.
Frank, with a venomous grin, started eating the trout he had just been served while Adam was still waiting for the grilled gilt-head bream.
Meanwhile, Faridah and Laura entered the inn discussing which store they would go to first. Miss Werner stopped just before entering the large room and tugged her friend by the sleeve of her black down jacket.
"What is it?" she asked puzzled by her behavior. "Adam is there with Pritchard," Laura muttered, not very pleased. "We can go to another pub, there is one quite nearby." "Out of the question! I feel like teasing Jensen," she looked at the woman with a devious grin. "Remember the last time you shot cereals at him?"
Malik nodded and crossed her arms over her chest. "I do, but he wasn't thrilled about it," she replied with a heavy sigh.
"So what? I don't care about anything, so I'll take the blame. Come on!" she insisted, trying to pull her hand.
Faridah gasped loudly and followed Laura. They carefully sneaked into the room, taking care not to be seen. Fortunately, there were quite a few people besides them, so it is possible that Jensen will not so quickly notice who the perpetrator of this attack is. They both took convenient positions and, hidden behind the menu, launched an attack. The first shot Laura aimed at Adam missed as the man just tilted his head to the right, but it hit Pritchard in the nose. Faridah hit Jensen in the back of the head, as did Miss Werner a moment later.
The Ex-SWAT sat quietly on his chair. Seeing the colorful Crunchy Pirates on the tabletop, he knew perfectly well who was the culprit, but this time he allowed Laura to vent negative emotions.
"The kids are bored!" growled Francis when one of the cereals fell into his teacup and splashed his face.
Adam just shrugged his shoulders as he watched the hacker unsuccessfully catching the soggy red ball. After a moment, he reached for his phone and tapped something on the virtual keyboard.
Laura stopped firing when the phone signaled the arrival of a message. She was terrified that Francis's program wasn't working and Kratos was threatening her again. With a trembling hand, she clicked on the folder and, closing one eye, looked at the screen.
"Miss Werner, you should work on your accuracy because 1/10 is a poor score. I recommend the shooting range.
A.J."
The woman muttered something unspecified, which was most likely sending Jensen to all the devils. Faridah noticed Laura furiously stabbing the fish she'd been served but hesitated to ask what it was about.
"What has this poor fish done to you?" she risked the question at which the auburn-haired woman showed her phone in a reply. Malik frowned, read the message, and laughed softly. "And what are you chuckling about!" she scolded her, drilling Adam's back with her eyes. "About the way, he teases you. It's so cute," she stated while eating her soup. "And you Brutus against me?!" she growled at Faridah, banging her mug against the tabletop. "He's just simply mean and vicious!"
Malik sighed heavily. She had forgotten that she knew more, and it was easier for her to approach the whole thing with detachment. Still, she was glad Jensen was trying to maintain what he and Laura had built since Uppsala. During lunch, they made a list of a few stores they would go to right after work. Fortunately, Faridah didn't have any off-schedule flights today, so they both ended their work at the same time. Even the great number of files from Frank did not delay their plans.
Jensen watched them both leave the company. From his office, he had a perfect view of what was going on in the lobby. Laura looked happy, which was all he needed at the moment. The tart thought of walking through the dozen stores immediately spoiled his mood. He stepped away from the glass wall, turned off his computer, and left, locking his office.

The shopping mall.
Both of them unanimously agreed they had the best chance of finding something nice and relatively inexpensive at the mall. Just after leaving, they headed for the subway, the tunnel of which ran close to their destination. Getting there by foot would be too tiring and take too long as the gallery was far from Sarif Industries. Women rode up and down escalators, visited a dozen stores, but in none of them found anything that would satisfy their needs. Laura was looking for something less modern, preferably blue, and Faridah wanted a combination of black with orange, and it was supposed to be a dress with the simplest possible cut. Before the second part of the search, they stopped by one of the cafes for a coffee and a cake. On the third floor of an enormous building containing perhaps all kinds of shops, they spotted the newly opened Vito Valentino boutique. They had a feeling that they would find something for themselves here because his name is known for sewing clothes for ladies and gentlemen who like something sophisticated and in a more classic style. Malik almost immediately found a black mermaid cut dress with a deep triangular neckline and short sleeves. It was finished with orange-gray colors on the shoulders and at the neckline. The set also included a gray long shawl. When the Chief Pilot went to the fitting room, Laura found something for herself. She fell in love with these shades of blue and the cut of the outfit. It consisted of two parts; a corset with a high blue-collar and a semi-transparent cape sewn to it, a slit at the back, and a long pleated skirt.
During the conversation with Francis, Adam remembered there was not much time left before the ball, and he had nothing to wear. He actually had an old tuxedo from his opera days, but Megan wouldn't forgive him for the rest of her life. Like it or not, he had to go shopping at the mall. If everything had turned out differently, he would have been here with Laura now, he thought as he opened the door of the Vito Valentino boutique.
"You look phenomenal. You must have it," Jensen heard Malik's voice coming from the depths of the store. After a moment, he saw Laura too and couldn't take his eyes off her. "Faridah, it costs 3000 credits and I barely have half," she sighed resignedly and went back to change her clothes.
Ex-SWAT backed out before he was noticed. He'll have to wait with his purchases until they leave, and that probably won't take long.
"I'll lend you the money but tomorrow. No excuses," the Head Pilot urged her to which the auburn-haired woman sighed.
After shopping, Laura went to the company to pick up the drone and returned to Malik’s apartment where the auburn-haired woman announced to the friend about going back to her place. Faridah didn’t want to listen but was convinced by an explanation that Laura wanted some time before Washington to pack and prepare the equipment. Loaded with luggage, the drone under her arm, and the cat cage in her other hand, she made a murderous attempt to reach home. Faridah offered to help but, as usual, Miss Werner didn't want to inconvenience her. As everything started to fall out of her hands halfway to the destination, she felt someone was taking the cardboard with the drone. At first, she thought it was Joe and was about to yell at him but when Laura turned her head she saw it was Adam. She also noticed he was carrying a paper bag in his left hand.
With a clumsy movement, he took the cigarette from his mouth "Let me help you," he muttered quietly. Jensen tried to keep his distance but it was impossible. He lost control of himself in her presence. All the ex-SWAT could think about was her perfume-scented neck, about kissing her. He thought about Laura’s hair sliding between his fingers. He thought about soft lips. Thankfully, she was no longer wearing the dress that was driving him insane.
Laura wanted to firmly protest but could not say a word of disagreement. She couldn't shout at him. All the bad words stuck in her throat, and the only one that came through sounded completely different from what she wanted. "Thank you," the woman replied, forcing a polite smile.

Laura’s apartment.
Adam didn't know what they could talk about. The situation was extremely awkward, but the woman seemed to have already come to terms with how their relationship looked like now. He silently hoped that they would part at the door of her apartment, but that did not happen. Laura invited him for tea, and he could not refuse. With the protection of Frank’s program uploaded to their phones, Adam felt at ease, as he had before. He was beginning to forget his behavior could endanger her. He set the cardboard box down by the shoe cabinet and took off his coat. When the woman let the cat out of the cage Stalker hissed furiously at the newcomer and would have jumped on Jensen with its claws if Laura hadn't caught the furry one in time. It seemed that even the pet considered him an enemy.
"Sorry about Stalker. I don't know what kind of demon has possessed him," she said, blushing in embarrassment.
"It's okay," the man replied as he entered the living room.
The Head of Security sat on the sofa as Laura served tea and butter cookies sprinkled with sugar. He could hear the cat flouncing around the kitchen. Jensen blamed himself for the pet being more faithful than he was. Even explaining he was doing it in good faith couldn't quench his remorse. The man sipped his tea and reached for a cookie. The awkward silence rang in his ears. All he could hear was the sound of crunching and chewing on the next bite. It only got worse after that.
"I'm sorry I hit you..." she said in a low, regretful voice as she nervously intertwined her fingers together.
Adam nearly choked on a sip of tea. All the muscles in his body tensed like overstretched strings that are about to burst. He was expecting many things, but not this.
"I've long forgotten about that," he muttered, trying to remain indifferent.
The woman felt he was pretending, so she decided to keep pushing. "But I can't," she continued holding the mug of tea in her hands now. It was still hot and burned skin, but she tried holding on. "I've thought about this for a long time and I understand you perfectly. After what you found out you had every right to reject me. I'm just a whore, nothing more."
Jensen's hands clenched tightly in a nervous effort to hold back the reflexes he couldn't afford. None of what she said was true. If only he could tell her that. If...
"I can't compare to..." she held her voice when she was almost about to say 'Megan'. "With no one. You deserve someone better. Someone who won't cause you so many problems and worries."
The ex-SWAT sat with his eyes fixed on the wall in front of him. He counted the green and beige stripes of wallpaper in his mind. Each word was a single, painful stab of a pin.
"I wish you joy and happiness. You deserve it."
"I should go now. Thank you for the tea," he said standing up. Laura got the feeling that he wasn't listening to her at all.
Adam went into the hallway, put on his coat, and left, bidding her a simple "Goodbye." As soon as Laura closed the door behind him, she reached for the first better shoe that was on the floor and threw it at them with all her might.

Making Amends
Summary: Five years, you thought he was gone for good. After the War, he disappeared. Now, after months of zero contact, he shows up at your bridal salon. A somewhat bitter Reader and a post-FATWS Bucky
Pairing: Bucky x F!Reader
Word count: 2381
Warnings: Mentions of past violence and killings, adult language
I sigh, securing the train of the dress so it doesn’t drag against the floor. The dress is stunning, as they all are. This one—pouffy, ivory, grand—has a bateau neckline and falls to the floor in a long, glittering train.
The glitter gets everywhere.
I bend down, trying to wipe some of it off my pants leg, then work on my blazer. Every day, only black clothes. It’s tradition, but a stupid one — the glitter stands out on my clothes more than it does on the white dresses.
“Miss, someone’s here to see you.”
I grit my teeth, digging my hands into the fabric of the dress. The receptionist is young — barely out of her teens, really — and still quite new at her job. She, like others, disappeared on that awful day five and a half years ago.
The day I lost everything.
And she’s here today because of my friends’ sacrifices.
I try to remind myself to be patient. “We’re appointment only, Lydia. Tell her to call, make an appointment, and come back then.”
“R-right,” she stammers, and I can hear the bottoms of her heels scraping against the floor as she shifts her weight. “It’s just—well, he said it’s really important, and wouldn’t take no for an answer.”
That gives me pause. He?
As a product manager at a bridal salon, my day is mostly spent in the company of women. Brides, their mothers, bridal parties, wedding planners, etc. There’s the occasional fiancé, father, brother, friend come to support, or a groom shopping for a dress, but overall, men tend to stand out.
“Fine, send him in,” I allow. It’s obvious he’s not listening to Lydia, but I know I’m more intimidating than she is. I’ll tell him to schedule an appointment. “And then do me a favor — there’s a list of designers on my desk upstairs. Can you give their offices a call and update the contact info for each brand representative?”
She sounds relieved. “Sure, no problem.”
As the sound of her heels meeting the ground fade away, I breathe in the sweet, floral-scented air. We’re under-booked today. There are only a few brides occupying our east fitting rooms, so I’ve decided to spend my afternoon in the west, making everything look perfect for the weekend ahead. Having this section alone — just me, the soft piano music playing over the speakers, and the dresses — is almost peaceful.
It would be peaceful if I were anyone else.
I continue to straighten the dresses. Everything needs to be perfectly spaced, meticulously tucked and folded to make each dress impressive in its own way. There’s no room for imperfection, here.
The sound of heavy boots clicking on the floor rings through the empty room. “Hey, Doll.”
My body runs cold.
That voice. I know it well.
My mind flashes to late nights, stealing smiles and kisses, tight hugs, adoring eyes.
And then falling to the ground in grief. Changing outfits to attend my second funeral of the day. His. And, after years of grieving, healing, and suffering through, one chance to fix it all. The joy of having him back. Locking eyes on the battlefield.
And then nothing.
Nothing.
All my air leaves me in one, quick, sigh. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”
I turn, both dreading the sight and longing for it.
And just like that, standing between two rows of eggshell and pearl and ivory, he’s here.
Dark denim jeans, a deep blue shirt—long sleeve, knowing him—a grey button-up open on his chest, and two thick gloves, despite the summer heat.
I cross my arms.
He purses his lips together and raises his eyebrows, crossing one foot over the other casually. “So, bridal, huh?”
I feel my jaw clench. “I’ve got to make a living, don’t I? Evidently you do, too.” I can’t stop the bitterness from seeping into my voice.
He sighs that long-suffering sigh, one that tells me he’s more resigned than upset. “I wanted to come back.”
I turn my attention back to the dresses, walking down the row of gleaming white. “No one was stopping you.”
He turns to face me as I continue my inspection of each and every gown. “It’s not that simple. I—I was working hard. I had to get freed from him.”
I grit my teeth, fighting the urge to feel something. But of course, I do. Ever since I’ve known Bucky, he’s been wrecked by the things he’s done and terrified he’ll be called to do them again.
Terrified that he’ll lose his mind once again to the assassin.
When I saw him on TV, in a random news report from months ago, I’d broken down into sobs. I’d fallen to my knees and said prayer after prayer of thanks. Because the clouds had faded from his eyes. The fear, the ever-present dread, was gone. He stood taller, more assured —
Happier.
I knew then, that somehow, he’d gotten the Winter Soldier out.
I bend down, fluffing layers of crinoline in a ballgown. “You’ve been in the news.”
He hears the accusation in my voice. You’ve been back for months.
He approaches me slowly, coming to stand in front of me as I straighten. “I had a job to do.”
“What, the new Captain America doesn’t allow cell phones?”
He ignores the jab. “Doll, I had to wait to make sure, to be sure, but I’m safe, now. I’m not him anymore.”
“Bucky, I always felt safe with you,” I whisper, the emotion nearly winning. “I loved you more than anything. And despite what you said — that you loved me, too — you just left. Five years I waited for you. I didn’t think there was any way I would ever see you again, and then by some miracle, after so much loss, you came back! We fought in a war together. We killed. And we won. And then you disappeared. It’s been six months! I-I mean, I hate to think the worst, Bucky, but I really thought—” I cut off my words then, unable to continue without dissolving into tears.
His jaw tightens in that heartbreaking way it does when he’s sad, and he reaches forward. When I don’t protest to his gloved hand on mine, he pulls me into a hug. I want to melt into him. I want to collapse under nearly six years of unresolved grief, stress, worry, and let him hold me up, let him bear this burden for just a few minutes.
But that’s not the way I’m made.
I’ve entrusted my heart to him too many times.
And every time, I’m left alone and broken.
I push myself out of his arms, wiping my tears away quickly. Once again, the dresses act as my anchor, my distraction. I gather one in my arms, crossing the aisle to re-hang it in its proper place.
Bucky watches from a distance.
His hands are tucked into his pockets, and he looks at me sadly for a while before his eyes turn to the ground.
Silence falls between us. The only noises are the coos of elated brides and their adoring guests coming from the east side of the building.
After a while, Bucky raises his head towards me. “Does working here make you want it?”
I sigh. He can’t do that. Can’t come in here after so much time away with zero contact and then casually ask me stupid questions. “Want what?”
“You know,” he shrugs, leaning against the receptionist’s desk. “It. A wedding, a marriage, a…life.”
I purse my lips, shaking my head. I reach to adjust a hanger slightly out of my arm span, trying my hardest not to sound sad. “I’m not the kind of girl you marry, Buck. Not anymore.”
He scoffs, making a face. “What does that even mean?”
I turn on him, more than done with this conversation. “Exactly that! I see it every day — brides come in here, all starry-eyed, happy, innocent. They’ve got love, or at least the excitement of planning their ‘big day,’ and they just glow with all the life in them. I don’t have that, not anymore. I—” I lower my voice, gritting my teeth against the emotion that attempts to fight through. “I’ve killed people, Bucky. For a long period of time, that’s all I did. And, look, I’m really, really happy for you being able to heal and move on and be freed, but I can’t do that. I can’t come back from who I turned out to be.”
“That’s bullshit. You did what you had to do.” He pushes himself off the receptionist’s desk, adamant. “Every life you took was to stop the slaughter of others. You can’t blame yourself for that.”
“I can.”
We stare each other down.
He’s always had a good stare.
Steady, intimidating, unwavering. It’s like he can see into the depths of your soul and know he can outlast you.
But I work with furious mothers of the brides.
I raise an eyebrow, showing him I will not back down from this challenge.
He blinks and moves his gaze past my right shoulder. Something shifts in his eyes. “You’ve got a client.”
I force my expression to soften, maneuvering around Bucky to grab the clipboard from the receptionist’s desk. I give him a look that clearly says do not move, and hurry to the front door to welcome the bride and her guests in. Amidst the flurry of excited chatters, gushing about wedding plans, and a clear description of what she does not want, I check them in on the clipboard and take them to the east wing to meet a consultant. When I return, Bucky is exactly where I left him.
He smirks at me. “What the hell was that? Your voice rose like three octaves.”
I roll my eyes. “It’s called customer service.”
He shrugs, leaning against the desk in a way I should not find ridiculously attractive. “Well, why don’t I get any of that?”
I grit my teeth. “Because they are going to buy a dress, which will pay my salary, which will make me happy. You on the other hand, have caused me nothing but anger, sadness, and worry.” I blink, absently shocked that all that truth escaped despite my best efforts.
Something flashes in Bucky’s eyes—regret, maybe—but he covers it well, tilting his head to the side and keeping his playful tone. “Really? Nothing but that? Gosh, I must have been a terrible boyfriend.”
I dig my teeth into my lower lip, staring down at my clipboard. It’s been six months. You may as well continue with the honesty. You don’t know the next time you’ll have a change to talk to him like this. “Buck…” I approach him slowly, buying myself time. Too soon, I come to stand in front of him. “You were a great boyfriend. I…” I sigh, shaking my head. “I thought you were it. I didn’t want anyone else. And we were happy, overall. You know—up until you disappeared without so much as a text and ignored me for six months.”
A muscle twitches in his cheek. He leans forward, locking his eyes with mine. “We were good together. I loved you, more than anything, I—well Doll, I still love you. And look, I know I’ve messed up. In more ways than seems is humanly possible, but I,” he sighs, shaking his head. “I’m as clean as I’m ever gonna get. I shouldn’t have disappeared without warning. I should’ve called when I left Wakanda. I should’ve let you hear from me rather than seeing me on the news. I should’ve come back and done the work to rebuild what I broke. I’m sorry. I really am.”
I feel the clipboard digging into my stomach. I don’t move. I stare at him, terrified of the way his words, the honesty in his eyes, makes me react. Too easily, my walls are coming down. “What did you come here for?”
“I—just,” he digs his hands into his pockets, sighing lowly. “I’m back in town. And I’m here to stay for a while. If you’d allow it, I’d like to try to make amends.”
Don’t do it, I beg myself. Don’t set yourself up for more pain.
In the face of my silence, he nods slowly, taking on a look of sad understanding.
“I work till seven.” The words rush from my mouth before I can stop them, before I can think of the consequences. I grip the clipboard even tighter.
Bucky raises an eyebrow, the start of a smile tugging at the edge of his lips. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” I nod, my heart racing at the prospect of being with him again, of maybe fixing things. “I live in the same apartment.”
He grins fully now, but at my stern look, attempts to wipe it off his face. I’m still mad at him, he shouldn’t get too comfortable yet.
But the light doesn’t leave his eyes and, despite my fear that this will all turn out terribly for me, I feel my own lips threatening to turn up.
He pushes himself off the desk, standing closer to me than I think either of us intended. “Can I take you out?”
I release a long breath, not moving from my spot despite our proximity. “Yes.”
He nods slowly, not pulling his gaze from mine. “It’s a date.”
“It’s a trial period,” I correct, unable to keep myself from teasing him a little.
He tilts his head to the side, laughing indulgently. “Alright, I deserve that. Then, sure, I’ll pick you up at eight for our trial period.”
He smirks cockily at me, winking in that way he knows makes my knees weak, before turning and swaggering to the door.
Despite our play, he’s not getting off this easy. There’s a lot we have to work through, and we might not even be compatible anymore — he knows that, too.
But for just this moment, I allow myself to enjoy feeling comfortable with him, joking like we used to. When his gloved hand reaches for the doorknob, I call after him, keeping my tone light. “You’re on thin fucking ice, Barnes.”
He turns his head to mine, nodding solemnly in a way I didn’t expect. “I know, Doll.”
A/n Whoops, couldn’t get this one out of my head after seeing Bucky in FATWS, so here’s some angst, bitterness, and hopefully a little hope!

Decoding Elegance: Top Wedding Neckline Designs for the Modern Bride

Warnings: Swearing, an argument, allusion to sex (NO SMUT), pure fluff
Words: 3.1k
A/N: I suppose this is an entry for @cherrymaybank’s Valentine’s Day Fic Challenge.

Every dress didn’t seem to fit properly no matter what mirror with different light in your apartment you tried. The spare bathroom’s bulb was dying, so that made the colour appear off, and the best mirror was dirty, which would dampen the romantic goal. Nothing made you feel that oomph that you desired for this date.
You could wear the standby little black dress of which you had two options, the clubbing one or the work appropriate one. It didn’t seem right to choose a standard black and no colour for this insanely sweet guy that had this insane energy. With that thought in mind, you dug deeper in your closet for that special dress that you’d never found someone worthy of it. It was your best dress and your most expensive with the tags still on. You would have gone for the maroon dress but it was Valentine’s Day and that seemed like over kill.
Somehow it still fit perfectly despite the length of time from purchase, it was a vibrant green satin with lace matching the colour. The dress's satin ended just below the knee with the matching lace falling an additional six inches past. The A-line skirt was loose flowing contrasting to the form-fitting material across your bust and midsection.
One of your favourite parts of the dress was the off-shoulder bateau neckline that gave a tasteful sneak of your cleavage. The bottom of the thick straps came to make a perfectly straight horizontal line. Across your waist was a one-inch wide satin ribbon attached to the dress that formed a perfect bow that tied the outfit together, no pun intended.
“Whoa.” You breathed stepping in front of the floor-length mirror kept in the spare bedroom, it had once been your roommates’ room before she moved.
You had to admit the dress was magical with it, bringing out all your curves and went with your skin tone. It was a pure shock to see how you managed to make the dress come to life with just a makeup look that was easy to do. All you did next was your favourite beige heels that went with everything. You had just slid on the left heel when the buzzer sounded and slid the right on as you hit the button unlocking the apartment building door.
“This is going to be perfect.” You breathed leaning into the mirror beside the front door. You inspected your lipstick as a knock sounded on the dark brown wood of your door.
“You look gorgeous.” Your date breathed, widening those colour changing irises as he took in your outfit, “You take my breath away. Happy Valentine’s Day”
Your cheeks flushed, “Thank you, Charlie.”
He stepped into the apartment as you quickly went to the kitchen to grab your coat and purse with your essentials. He had gently retrieved the coat from your arms to help you into the cold jacket.
“I know traditionally I would have brought you flowers, but I also know you love books.” Charlie breathed grasping the items in his hands, “So I got these flowers.”
His warm hands held three books. The top one was The Orchid House by Lucinda Riley with a cover that had the background blurry with only the back of a girl in clarity. The girl’s pink dress matching the flower in the upper corner of the book. The next cover proudly displayed The Rose Garden by Susanna Kearsley with red flowers growing down on a stone building. The third one was a light pink book with an anatomically correct heart with flowers growing out of the arteries, veins and valves; a collection of poetry I Saw You As a Flower by Ellen Everett. Lastly, you held Rupi Kaur’s second collection of poetry The Sun and her Flowers that had come out a couple years ago.
“Charlie, this is so thoughtful. You even has a rose one!” You breathlessly spoke gently touching the covers, “Thank you so much for these.”
“I thought we could read them together?” Charlie was bashful as he quietly asked with flushed cheeks. He didn’t know why he felt like this was his very first date all over again.
“I’d love that.” You softly told the Canadian with the manners a mother would be jealous to have in her home. Charlie’s fingers linked with yours as he tugged you out of the apartment into the hallway.
Your hands swung during the short walk from the apartment building to his bright orange Subaru across the street. The sound of the light wind rustling the trees lining the sidewalk mixed with the humming from Charlie was a perfect film score. He was the ideal gentleman even before he asked you out.
You couldn’t wait to tell your close loved ones about Charlie. You could really see this going somewhere. The relationship that is, as you were now on the side of a road with the Subaru’s hazard lights flashing.
“I forgot to fill the tank.” Charlie moaned, pressing his forehead against the steering wheel. His eyes clenched just as tight as his fists.
The Canadian was so embarrassed to have had what he thought was the best date of his life. He’d played music from the playlist he had patiently curated specifically for this date, and he held your hand to the restaurant. He’d already made plans for another date when his car’s warning beeped.
In Charlie’s haste, he’d forgotten to fuel up his car, so here he was with the prettiest person he’d ever seen in his passenger seat. His confidence in a second date had greatly diminished.
“Char, you said Owen was on his way. There isn’t anyone else I’d prefer to be stranded with. Don’t be so hard on yourself.”
“I wanted this date to go perfect. This is my first Valentine’s Day with someone.” Charlie admitted turning his head to stare into warm pools of your e/y colours. His eyes scanned the soft smile that appeared on your face as his confession, “I had this whole thing planned out, and now you definitely won’t want a second-”
“I’m gonna kiss you. If you don’t want that, let me know.” You murmured before pulling him in for what would be the best kiss of your life thus far.
Sure his car broke down, but you kissed him anyway. He tasted of the complimentary chocolate dessert from dinner.

A Year Later
A young, admittedly broke couple sat on the cold floor of the unpacked kitchen eating SpaghettiOs. You had only just moved into the studio apartment with Charlie that had drained most of your savings. Had it not been in a decently safe area in the city and a close commute you would have said no.
But it was the perfect starting place for you two as you both were unfamiliar with living with an SO. It sucked on each of your ends to not have a better situation, Charlie wanted nothing more than to spoil you on the first day living together. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible but sitting on the floor with a cheap candle was imperfectly perfect.
“I’m sorry we’re eating out of cans.” Charlie whispered pointedly, keeping his eyes on the spoon, stirring the red sauce with the beige circles.
“Char this is perfect. As long as it’s you and I then anything is perfect. Besides we didn’t label the boxes, I have no idea which box has our kitchenware.” You admitted glancing at the boxes boarding the edge of the room.
You ate out of cans for at least a week before you had unpacked the kitchen and had the means to buy actual groceries. Living together thus far had been going super smooth until wasn’t.
It was a bad day on both your parts, your entire work was deleted after a computer glitch. Charlie had auditioned for a role he had been really really wanting since he heard about it. Your father came down with the flu axing the plans to meet for dinner; it would have been the first time in six months you saw him in person.
The apartment's atmosphere had been rising and very volatile by mid-afternoon when Charlie blatantly forgot a deal. If he was going to play music, it had to be in the study so you could focus on your work.
Today he’d decided to be in close vicinity to have a virtual jam session with both Owen and Jeremy. He’d chosen the room you were in solely because it had the best wifi reception which you needed as well.
“Charlie, please can you go to the study? I’m trying to finish this!” You cried out as he struck a chord on the electric. His eyebrows came other in the glare he sent you, “I lost all my work last night.”
“The guys and I are working on songs-”
“-Charlie, this is due tonight. I can’t concentrate with-”
“It’s not my fault you have a shitty attention span!” Charlie angrily snapped contradicting the gentle touch on his guitar. He placed it back on the stand to not accidentally damage it, “The wifi is best in this room.”
“I’m very much aware of that Charlie. Out of the two of us, I use it the most. Can you please either move to the study or at least wait an hour so I can finish?” You pleaded with the Canadian actor ignoring the two guys on the computer silently waiting for the fight to be over.
“Why can't you mov-”
“Fine. I will.” You fully stared down your boyfriend for a full five seconds before you harshly closed the top of your computer. It took seconds to gather your work stuff into the leather satchel you stored the computer in, “You didn’t even mute the call.”
Charlie watched as you swiftly pulled on your jacket, “Babe-”
The sound of the door slamming shut cut his sentence before he even had a chance to speak his thoughts. The apartment was eerily silent compared to the sounds of music that always played through the Bluetooth speaker.
The inspiration to play evaporated with the aftermath of a stupid argument permeated the apartment typically filled with love. All three actors quietly said their goodbyes before they ended the video call.
You spent an hour uncomfortably sitting in a cafe finishing up what you’d needed to finish with the argument replaying. Your finger barely hit the button to send the email before you had already stepped outside the business. You spent the walk struggling to draft a text to your boyfriend.
It didn’t matter because when you walked into the apartment, you heard the soft song you’d both deemed yours. It was cheesy, but that was part of Charlie’s charm. Speaking of your boyfriend, he was sat on the floor of your kitchen with matching mugs of brownies.
“I’m sorry. I was insensitive.” Charlie started as soon as your jacket was draped over one of the kitchen chairs. His usually wide smile was as bashful as the one he’d worn on the night of your first date.
“No I’m sorry, Charlie. I could have easily put on my headphones or moved to the bedroom for a bit. The fight was stupid, and I love you so much that sometimes I think I take you for granted. I mean, look at you! You made the brownie cups-”
“Even sitting on the cold floor like when we moved in.” Charlie cheekily inserted, reaching over to hold your hands in his, “I like our tradition. I definitely like how we upgraded from SpaghettiOs to brownies.”
“Me too.” You breathed leaning over to press a lingering kiss on his lips. His hands delving into your hair to keep you close.
The butterflies stormed your stomach as the heat slowly inflated from your toes until it reached your flushing cheeks. Raw emotion pouring into the passionate kiss that only closed down as you broke for air. But you also went back in as that warmth slowly built in your tummies. Charlie’s eyes marginally opened to ensure he wasn’t imagining the Angel he got to kiss.
Finally, with heavy breathing, you pulled apart, but only a fleeting moment froze the time in the apartment. For, as soon as Charlie caught your dilated pupils, his one hand cupped the back of your hand, fingers tangled in your h/c tresses.
Soon enough, you were making up on the kitchen floor with each article of clothing tossed in the vicinity. A shirt landed on the kitchen sink spout. The brownie mugs forgotten as you gave into the passion with your boyfriend. Your lovemaking had you missing supper.
Charlie’s solution was a trip to the local authentic English pub founded by a nice guy from London. You never failed to stop him for a dance in the empty street as his smooth voice gave music for smooth motions. Dancing was a common thing from pulling off the road in Dieppe to dance. You drank and danced at the pub until Jack cut you off at 2am as his pub rules had.
You and Charlie just laughed in a love bubble as the real-world worries faded because you always came together in the rough times.
Months later you returned to Dieppe with Charlie to spend the holidays with them. The entire family together creating such a welcoming atmosphere.
“I’m gonna grab a glass of water.” You informed the group of gals ad non-binary pals who had gathered in Meghan’s bedroom. The group had decided to sleep over Meg’s childhood room with face masks, nail polish and lovely wine.
Meg and Jeannette both nodded to acknowledge your announcement before they returned to their respective conversations. You took a moment to take in the great group of Gillespie and Co you had the honour to be part of. The thirst was only temporarily forgotten in the happy bubble you found yourself in.
You practically skipped to the kitchen, barely noticing the two people in the living room, but their words stopped you in your tracks. Your boyfriend, Charlie Gillespie, stood close to his older brothers Ryan, Patrick and Michael.
“I’m gonna ask her to marry-” Charlie caught himself from finishing the sentence when he saw you standing pale-faced at the opening into the living room.
His entire body was encapsulated by the lights casting in the living room from the Christmas tree. The tree couldn’t hold a candle to the ring of your dreams that promptly had you bursting into tears.
“I RUINED THE SURPRISE!” You sobbed dropping your face into your cold hands, avoiding the gaze of the Gillespie brothers. Had you not been hiding in your hands you would have known the older three had vacated the room.
“Hey, it’s okay.” Charlie cooed with the ring safely put away in the box he had shoved back in his pocket, “You didn’t ruin the surprise. I shouldn’t have been telling my brothers in the middle of the living room.”
Charlie’s warm hands slowly pulled your hands from your soft post-mask skin with such a pretty healthy glow. He could see the remnants of the mask on the edge of your scalp, but it didn’t take away from your beauty.
“I’m sorry.” You whispered, staring up at him from underneath your eyelashes. The soft hazel eyes not upset in the least, things often didn’t go the way you wanted to together.
Take the first date from over two years ago where you and Charlie had waited for Owen to meet you with a jug of gas. You’d shared childhood stories and future dreams. Or the time you hadn’t marked the boxes creating an entire week of eating out of cans and cartons.
Ruining the proposal was almost expected at this rate.
“I knew from the moment I saw you in that emerald dress I knew that you were the One for me. I’ve adored each moment I’ve gotten with you from the spontaneous dances on the side of the road. To bursting into song in the middle of the street.” Charlie shakily started with sweating bands but an open heart, “When your best friend told me the emerald dress was the special one, it melted my heart.”
“Charlie.”
“Other than my belief that this relationship will last, I was only ever sure of one thing in my life. I was sure I would be an actor, but now I’m more sure that my favourite role will be supporting you, loving you and evolving with you as your husband.” Charlie sniffled, taking one hand from yours to wipe the tears flooding his cheeks, “Will you marry me?”
“Yes.” You breathed lunging on your tiptoes to kiss him with as much passion as you could. Your hands caressed the skin of his cheeks; his long tresses tickling your wrists.
“God I love you.” Charlie gushed with a gentle shake of his head. His hazel pinned to your e/c eyes as if you were the most precious gem in the world.
A voice cut the bubble enveloping you, “Well are you gonna put the ring on her finger or what?”
Charlie’s head moved to meet the teary eyes of his mother surrounded by his siblings as they bounced on their feet. You laughed as your now fiance clumsily rushed to slide the absolutely gorgeous ring on your finger.
“Welcome to the family officially.” Jeannette cheered along with the celebratory whistles and yells as the crowd of the family grew more and more. Soon enough, the entire room was overflowing with people congratulating your new engagement.
Months later, you stood in front of that same group holding the hands of your handsome fiance. Both dressed to the nines in front of the officiant.
“I wasn’t looking for a fairytale, because they all end the same. The princess has a conflict that she revolves with the help of the prince. They get married and live happily ever after. I adore how we’re writing our own story that fits our relationship. Charlie Gillespie, I wouldn’t change a thing about our lives. I wouldn’t have it any other way even with the fighting and slamming doors, but we always end up on our kitchen floor making up with two brownies in mugs.” Your vows brought tears among the onlookers along with the Canadian barely keeping it together.
The vows would later be eloquently transformed into lyrics from you with the accompanying melody provided by Charlie. On Valentine’s Day, you played the song on the kitchen floor with a plate of brownies. Three brownies waiting to be devoured.
“Three for each of us.” You wept as you watched as Charlie melted into a puddle of joyful tears. He took no time in placing his hand over your flat stomach.
Yeah, you wouldn’t have it any other way. Especially when Valentine’s Day become more to the Gillespie family; a new little love taking up the day.
